Review Voila Cafe - Auckland Central

Karyn Ann Udanga
One of our local cafes and we love their crepes and galette. Generous portions and tasty as well - anything with mushrooms and spinach are our fave things to order!

The atmosphere is nothing fancy with a canteen style, but the food was well priced with decent servings. The medium coffee was more than enough to satisfy ones coffee needs, but felt more bitter than normal. All in all a good quick way to start the day.

I’ve been here after a really long time today. Wasn’t busy at 9.30. Under new management since I last visited. The coffee wasn’t good. Could be the coconut milk they use. But the chocolate almond croissants were on point. The pastry was flaky & buttery delish. Will definitely be back for more pastries

Cute little cafe on Sandringham Rd. The staff are generally friendly and the coffee is decent :) See photo for the seating capacity and the general vibe. Lots of crepes on the menu which I have yet to try but they sound lovely. No complaints - happy to have a cafe nearby church to go to every now and again to read beforehand!

The best French toast I have ever had. The croissants are also amazing!

Great food at reasonable prices 👌 staff were friendly and didn't have to wait long for the food. Definitely will return to try the something else on the menu 😍

This place has the most amazing crepes I've found anywhere. They do a fantastic lemon butter sugar crepe that is sensational. Wish the hot chocolates we ordered were hotter though. The drinks were tasty despite that. Highly recommend this place. We are lucky it's local to us.

The coffee was excellent. The coffee was bold but smooth, I don’t really like malty coffee which is so common at cafes these days so I was pleasantly surprised. The service was really fast and the owner was so kind. The environment had a chill and peaceful vibe to it and it had good ventilation- appreciated on a hot day.

Good food, friendly staff and coffee is excellent.

Specialist in french style crepes, gallettes, and other french pastries. Large portion size which is good for sharing. I had a chicken and mushroom crepe, absolutely delicious! They also have multiple milk alternatives available as well as vegetarian and gluten free options. Highly recommended!

Cozy coffee house in the heart of Sandringham and shopping street. Good variety of coffee, smoothies, crepe and savouries; and some reading materials.

Best Cafe we've been to this year. Large servings, good quality and perfectly cooked breakfast of crepes, omelettes and excellent coffee for 40 bucks. Two girl waitress' polite, witty and professional.

Delightful lil cafe in Sandringham Village. Lovely to have smiling staff and nice greeting. Maple syrup crepe slid down easily and we eyed the menu to see what flavour we could have next time. Full breakfast large enough to share Sausage was a little on the hard side but eggs perfect.

Came in today for a Saturday brunch. The croissant and pain au chocolat was real flakey. Brioche bread was soft and buttered well. The bread tasted delicious dipped in honey. Nutella went perfectly with the croissant. Spicy chorizo galette was a great choice. Chorizo had lots of flavour. Mushrooms were soft and creamy.

COZY is the keyword here. The food was good, but not great and wasn’t presented well. I would highly recommend the Lemon & Thyme Polenta Fries as they were nice and made my whole experience here better. It was comfortable and cozy as there was just enough room for a couple people to navigate their way around the place. It’s alright if you only want to eat but we felt we couldn’t stay and chat as it felt a bit too small and cozy. Which isn’t bad! But it’s not exceptional either.<br/><br/>Food 3/5<br/>Service 4/5<br/>Look & Feel 3/5<br/>Value 2/5

Don’t usually go to Sandringham but came here on a relaxed Saturday and ordered a vegetarian quiche, an almond croissant and a hot chocolate <br/>Quiche was full of flavour and had a lot of mushroom<br/>Almond croissant was very buttery and had a lot of layers👍🏻👍🏻 9/10<br/>Hot chocolate is not too sweet

Absolutely adore their Eggs Benedict - the best eggs benedict I've had in Auckland! The decor is a little aged, but for a local cafe it is more than adequate for a sunday brunch.

So I'm writing this review while sitting here at Voila. I ordered 2 crepes because I love my sweet and savoury crepes. Anywho, anyone who loves crepes or pancakes knows you CAN NOT serve crepes or pancakes with mock cream, (whipped cream out of a can). It was the biggest downfall the crepes were ok, pretry average for a 4 star cafe. The mock cream really killed my appetite! Until the cream is real hand whipped or man whipped lol I dont think people would enjoy a good crepe. So..... it's a NO from ME.

A bustling little cafe in Sandringham with a menu offering a generous selection of French breakfasts and brunches.  It was quite busy when we arrived, and the tables are close together making it a bit of a squeeze, but we found it very cozy and charming, and the service was excellent.  We chose the french toast and were not disappointed. It came with a thick slice of brioche bread, banana, bacon and maple syrup; it was tasty and filling.  We will definitely visit again.

Voila is a boutique French Cafe squeezed in to Auckland's haven of South Asian cuisine known as Sandringham. <br/><br/>I decided to go all out for breakfast. I started with a chai latte which had a good consistency of cinnamon and milk. For meals I had French toast and ended with a banana and Nutella crepe. <br/><br/>The French toast was served with a single piece of bread which was thicker than a Kardashian (See picture). This is a classic dish which they make very well. The banana, bacon, and maple syrup all complimented each other and filled me up. <br/><br/>My banana and Nutella crepe was my first ever crepe. I underestimated how filling they are. I loved the texture of the crepe and the flavor combinations were sublime. My single recommendation would be to slice the bananas thinner. <br/><br/>I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast here and I'm already looking forward to more crepes.

We came here for breakfast during the weekend and ordered the French toast and the hashcakes for breakfast. The actual cafe itself is very hot as they didn't turn the fan on. The smoothie we ordered was OK a bit watery. The food was delicious though. I enjoyed the mushrooms and the hashcakes. Will probably come back in winter instead of summer.

Great place to grab breakfast on the weekend. Nice food and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The eggs Benedict is highly recommended and the polenta fries are amazing!

Beautiful Galette menu and well made latte. I would recommend. Good value for money. The old ASB in Sandringham. Very nice freshly baked breads and pastries to take home.<br/> <br/>

Lovely food and great customer Service. I would highly recommend their crepes, they're not only delicious but they're huge too! Will definitely be coming back for more

This café has the best almond croissant I have ever had in my life! It has an amazing creamy filling and I will definitely be back. Living nearby, the opening hours are way too short (only open til 3.30 I think on weekdays) as I always find myself wanting coffee or café food in the late afternoon. Staff are nice and coffee is good. Can't wait to try more French pastries!
Coz I Can
Love the food and the fresh pasteries made. The snell of coffee wafting always makes it feel so comfortable inside. The service was great. I love how large the salmon portions are in the Eggs Benedict. Soooo good. Passionfruit n Honey Smoothie is my fave.

A local of us!! Let's just start with the coffees!!! They are MASSIVE and great value. Recommend ordering the large bowl. Coffees also have a decent of foam. Mmmm. The cabinet pastries also cannot be faulted. Yet to try dishes from the menu.<br/>Love coming here when I am craving cafe coffee :)

Have been to this cafe a few times and always had a lovely experience! Delicious food, friendly staff and great coffee. Would highly recommend!

visited this place for Sunday brunch.<br/>The taste of the food was average. My crepe was really dry and the eggs bene wasnt runny. <br/>Service - 3/5<br/>Quality- 3/5<br/>Taste - 2/5<br/>Will I visit again - No

Interesting French inspired cafe, sitting among a stronghold of Indian restaurants. Mushroom on toasted brioche with bacon was quite good but a bit on the greasy side. Grilled chicken burger was perfect. Chicken was moist and well seasoned.

Voila is a pleasant little cafe to visit if you're in the neighbourhood of Sandringham. Our last visit, I ordered a soy mocha and chocolate brioche. Though my orders were simplistic, both drink and brioche were very very on point. I'm definitely visiting again in the near future.

This French café' is very famous as you see the place being always busy.<br/><br/>We had crepes, french toasts and a couple of coffees today and the taste of the food was superb.<br/><br/>Staff members are friendly and the service is quick.<br/><br/>I'll come back here to try a few other things :)
EarnesTaster
Easily one of the more inviting informal eateries in Sandringham , with a nice range of light-eats grading into more substantial fare but you won't find full-fledged meals which explains why the place is not open for dinner. Their French-centric medium-voltage fare is pleasant but depth of taste here is in no danger of elbowing out its Asian counterparts that surround it. The balance of mustard and cream in a hearty sandwich that was my first experience here had such a profound echo of contrapuntal taste which I never found in other offerings tasted subsequently. A chef's special omelette was a fluffy filling affair , with juicy mushrooms avec smoked salmon but the flavours just couldn't cohese into a delicious punch. A temptingly presented crepe folded in chicken with bechamel and mushrooms in a dish that convincingly doubles as a light lunch but I've had crepes of far more inveigling accents in distinctly un-french cafes in Auckland outskirts. One had hoped that Lamb Shanks here might get a fetching Gallic spin but no such luck - good mashed potatoes didn't atone enough for passable lamb paired with a regulation brown sauce. Service is average. One may return for a snack without great expectations.

Eggs Benedict had packet hollandaise on it, one of the eggs had been hard boiled whereas the other egg was under cooked. The big breakfast was ok but it was served with tomato sauce. When you pay over $20 for a brunch, it should not be served with tomato sauce and the hollandaise should be handmade, no exceptions.<br/>A few minor tweaks to the way the food is prepared could see a huge improvement to the quality of the dishes.

walk past all the time and it's always a popular spot so my sister and I went in for breakfast one morning and it was great! ordered long blacks, eggs benedict with bacon on galette and the hash cakes with bacon. coffee was nice and hot and the food was delicious, hash cakes were crispy and huge, perfectly runny eggs and my galette pancake was stuffed full of fresh spinach which was a nice surprise. my sister and I both had at least 5 pieces of bacon on our plates each so value for money. did not give a full score as we have not tried anything else on the menu but will definitely be back. staff were friendly and polite

Really nice cafe. Make sure you try the crepe menu. Even the savoury crepes are nice. Great coffee and all the usual breakfast items. Would recommend for sure.

We came here to grab a laaaaaate breakfast takeaway. <br/><br/>It was a really cute place. Their menu on the wall was really adorable. <br/><br/>We got a flat white, mocha and a vanilla latte. The coffee was really good. It was a good temperature and actually like coffee. <br/><br/>The mushroom feta ham omelette was really tasty but it was slightly over cooked. <br/><br/>The two hot smoked salmon egg benedicts came with gluten free bread. Inside the folded bread thing it had spinach which was a nice surprise when we actually got to the middle. Their hollandaise sauce was delicious but it didn't help fix their eggs. One of my poached eggs was perfect but the other one was completely over cooked. It had the yolk of a boiled egg. <br/><br/>I definitely would come back for their coffee but I wish their eggs were consistent.

Lovely warm friendly cafe in the center of Sandringham. All the breakfast that come out if the kitchen look stunning. I went for the eggs benedict galette. Eggs were perfectly cooked, spinach could have been doing with a bit of seasoning but other than that great value breakfast.<br/>Lots of lovely freshly baked French pastries on offer also.
Manic Diner
This cosy little cafe has authentic French baked treats and an extensive menu to satisfy even the most discerning palette. I had the french toast which was delicious. The brioche was perfect and with bacon and hot banana, I think I was in heaven. My friend adored her eggs benedict with salmon, spinach and crepe. A perfect brekky for a very long day at work.

My wife and I were there for lunch today .<br/>I ordered a spinach salmon pastry and my wife had scrambled egg on cibatta bread . <br/>We enjoyed our meals very much and the service was friendly and excellent.<br/>Highly recommended.

Waited too long for one soup and one omelette although place less than half full at lunchtime. Soup bowl overheated in microwave so soup far too hot to eat. Won't return.

Love Voila cafe, crepes are heavenly and service is also very friendly. Weekends can be busy due to the fantastic food but well and truly worth the wait. Service is superb as its always been, highly recommend Voila cafe.
Charlie
Oh dear, this cafe has changed hands recently and the service has dropped dramatically. Same amount of staff but they seem unable to run as before. We and the tables around us waited far too long to have our order taken and we saw 2 meals being returned to the kitchen. What a shame this place used to be great.
Tigir
Always friendly staff, amazing food, good coffee, but a wee bit slow at times, even when not a full house. Its always worth the wait, but you need to not be in a hurry. Will totally be back for more crepes!

We have lunch here regularly - everything is always delicious. Best thing is that they always have one choice which is healthy, low-fat and also delicious. Service is great and friendly. Sometimes the restaurant is full - but what can you expect when a local restaurant is this good.
David
Yummeeeeeeeeeee!!! Love everything, all the baking in this place - the food is great and the coffee. A must to visit.
Laura
Great food and excellant service.

Voila is a cute wee cafe tucked in amongst the variety of random stores in sandringham. its a little haven in the busy-ness of sandringham road.<br/>i come here 3 - 4 times a week, and just LOVE it!<br/>craig makes the most beautiful flat whites, lily's fluffy mochas are delish, and the chefs out-do themselves everyday with freshly made pastries and gorgeous lunches in the cabinet, as well as the scrummy crepes! <br/>try the la bretone crepe for something sweet [toffee and sea salt] or their crepe eggs benedict, its SO good!<br/>on the weekends they can be busy, but dont get grumpy, its just because they are so good, and you should be in there to cruise in the weekend, not rush your gorgeous meal in 10 minutes!<br/>if youre a coffee regular in the morning, they will get to know what you like, and have your takeaways ready for you asap, which is pretty cool.<br/>thanks voila cafe, for being the only decent cafe between kingsland and titirangi!

I have been a regular for years. The food is wide ranging with a French/North African influence. Yes may be a slight wait but only because they're popular. Try ALL the Pastries/ Baked goods. Try the roulades, try the crepes/galettes, try the specials.. In fact try everything! Fantastique!

We used to go to Voila all the time. It's great to have some authentic French pastries and north African inspired French food in a suburban cafe. <br/><br/>The coffee is pretty good, but always a long wait.<br/><br/>They have amazing cakes too if you get in early enough.<br/><br/>The layout of the cafe isn't as nice as it could be and you don't go there for the decorations, but you can be pretty sure you will like your food.

Discovered this gem 4 years ago by the recommendation of an old flattie who ate there religiously. This cute little French/Mediterranean cafe is hidden in the midst of Sandringham road shops aka 'little India'. <br/><br/>As you walk in, you will see a display of French patisseries and dessert, all made onsite for self selection. Alternatively, you can eat there and have an authentic French 'voila' breakfast/galette menu or pick from their selection of standard blackboard menu items. It can get overwhelming and just to make it harder for you - they all taste amazing. <br/><br/>We went for a Sunday brunch and once again, had a wonderful meal. Now, if you are an omelette fan - you MUST try the omelette - it's outstanding (and massive) I loved the salmon omelette - cubed salmon pieces wrapped in spinach with diced mushrooms and held together with copious amounts of cheese. Top notch! <br/><br/>'The Man's view' The hubby ordered the full breakfast which was plentiful and filling. The French influence came through in the caramelised onions and roast potato instead of the typical hash and the mushrooms were diced and sweetened. The poached eggs passed our 'poking test' and they didn't hold back on the bacon. <br/><br/>I fully recommend Voila. This place is beyond popular with the locals and can get a bit hectic during weekend brunch times. Go later if you can wait or just pickup one of their delicacies in the cabinet. It's definitely worth a try!
