Review Hansan - Auckland Central

Steven Bull
The staff were great, friendly and helpful.. the food was awesome! found myself wanting to choose too many things off the menu. Look forward to going back.

Loved the Lychee Shake - It had a hint of coconut or some flavour that reminded me of a delicious sago pudding. The noodle soups here are really good value too, and great comfort food. It's not authentic Vietnamese by a long shot, but it's still tasty for whatever it is.

I ate here twice during a short stay and was impressed at the quality and value. Huge, crispy Banh Xeo and delicious beef Pho. The all-important garnish was crispy and fresh too. Two can dine in well for under $40. Green tea is complimentary and we found the staff very friendly, especially the lady from Mui Né. On my experience, I would recommend this place as a good option in the area.

The food is delicious and affordable. Plus, there are so many options to choose from. It's a simple restaurant hidden in a secluded street in CBD. At first, you would not notice it but when you get inside, you wouldn't know that it's a hidden gem. My tummy is always full whenever I eat at this restaurant. My all time favorite would be the Haiannese Chicken (unsure if I have spelled it correctly 😅).

Nice vibe place, food is good. Moderately high price but still pretty good :)

They are open again! Accommodating staff and delicious vietnamese food. I love the pho, summer rolls and lemongrass chicken. Big servings as well!

I really enjoy this Vietnamese place. I've been to the one located at Lynn mall and the food is super delicious. The curry chicken rice noodle soup is my favourite, really flavoursome, tasty and quite spicy too! Never disappointed when i come to this place.
Victor Truong
Absolutely the most, flavoursome vietnamese food I've ever tasted! Wonderful, peaceful, authentic ambiance ( no loud music either which is a rarity nowadays ). Exceptional staff who know the menu. My favourite restaurant in Auckland..value for price too.
Lovel Demegillo
Really good place to eat! The serving sizes are big for such a cheap price. It's an ideal place to eat for uni students on a budget (which is probably why it's close to UoA). The food also comes out pretty fast. The area is clean and the staff are nice. Definitely would come here again. I recommend it.
Alex Tjahjana
A nice simple Vietnamese food. Generous portion with reasonable price. The staff sometimes look bored, can't be bothered, and just want to things done quickly; sometimes can be very friendly and attentive. The sago dessert is yummy though very-very hot when it come, so better order way ahead and let it cool down a bit before eating it or risking to burn your tongue.
Shanuka Perera
Our usual dinner or lunch place. Super quick and delicious food. The taste hasn’t changed a bit for the past three years. They do really quick delivery with uber eats too. Never been disappointed by the food or excellent customer service.
John Reilly
Nice place very clean and tidy. The toilets were very good. Service is also good and the food is great if you like Asian food. Prices are pretty reasonable.
Kezia Lynch
Favourite cheap and cheerful Vietnamese with many locations around Auckland. Consistently good food with a quick turn around time. Vegetarian/vegan options are limited.
Helen
The pork wontons were flavoursome packages of goodness, swimming in a rich broth and surrounded by plenty of vege and pork slices! The serving size was great, so fantastic value for money, and the wait time was decent 😊

It seems that the management at Hansan has changed and as a result, so too has the food. Previous to the new development portion sizes were considerably bigger, and options such as lemons, mung beans, etc were also complimentary. In Vietnamese cooking these are critical components that make the dish. We hope to see a change, until then there are other places we would recommend.

Hansan is a oriental Vietnamese restaurant. It’s located near Albert Park. We went to Hansan because the price is reasonable. We went there at 3pm. We went with 2 classmates, and were greeted by the friendly staff. The inside of the store was decorated like Vietnam. It was big and clean inside, and there’s space for a group of guests to go there. We ordered 2 rice noodles and an egg noodle dish, and the food was delicious and fresh, tasted healthy. The quantity was enough. The noodles were served very quickly. Our Japanese friend said it smelled a little spicy, but the taste was not spicy. The price was not expensive. The beef rice noodles and beef egg noodles were $13.50 each, and the chicken with lemon grass & rice noodles was $15. I want recommend the chicken with lemon grass & rice noodles, because the lemon grass was sweet and sour. <br/>This restaurant would be good for someone who want to try Vietnamese food for the first time.
Renie
Good place for casual lunch or dinner. Portion sizes are always really good and the food comes out fast. I had the beef rice noodles and really enjoyed it!
Lucy
A long established fast food chain well known for it’s Vietnamese food. The interior is clean and fairly new.<br/><br/>Friendly and prompt service. Great variety on the menu and the staple (i.e noodles, rice) are interchangeable.<br/><br/>The Raw Beef Pho was fresh and nice, the noodles are quite soft and easy to chew. The meat however was slightly tough.<br/><br/>The Lemon Grass Chicken Vermicelli was very delicious, the chicken were excellent flavored, crispy on the outer and tender in the inside.<br/><br/>All food have excellent portions, and were served to our table within 5 minutes.<br/><br/>Taste: 8/10<br/>Presentation: 6.5/10<br/>Service: 9.5/10<br/>Ambience: 7.5/10<br/>Value for money: 10/10<br/><br/>Price $15 per person (excl alcohol)

I really enjoy this Vietnamese place. I've been to the one located at Lynn mall and the food is super delicious. The curry chicken rice noodle soup is my favourite, really flavoursome, tasty and quite spicy too! Never disappointed when i come to this place.

Usually come here for lunch when I’m craving Vietnamese food. Love their pork ribs with egg noodles but also love their beef salad!

Such a good experience. The service is on point and straight forward. Serving is fast. Food taste good and satisfying. The price is just and fair. Definitely gonna go back and recommend to my friends.

I always have a really good time here. Strongly recommend the spring rolls - the sauce is delicious!!<br/>Never had a problem with the service; there is a small wait during lunch time but not really fussed with that.
Lisa
Food: Appropriately sized portions for lunch. Ok noodles and ok spring rolls. Sauces are nice but things like lettuce are withered. <br/><br/>Atmosphere/Interior: Crammed. <br/><br/>Service: Varies. Rude to friendly depending on the person.<br/><br/>Parking: no separate parking but opposite to parking lot if needed.

It was yummy:) this beef rice noodle and pork rice noodle (without soup) were good to have a together. Fast and good service. I would like to try otherthings

Come here whenever I feel like something extra for lunch. Always order the B21 Combination Beef w Rice Noodle Soup and the B02 Raw & Cooked Beef Noodle Soup, all taste delicious and freshly made. Whenever I order a A03 Shrimps and Pork Summer Rolls, the rolls always stuck together and it’s frustrating to eat. The environment is alright and service is good.

I used to came here once a week when i still ib Uni. Environment nice and clean. Staffs always friendly and helpful. Foods all tasty good, Vietnamese beef pho delicious and healthy.

The joy of eating at hansan starts the moment you walk in the door. You are immediately greeted by a majestic waterfall, signifying the freshness you are about to experience. Then attentiveness and professionalism of the wait staff will astound you, COMPLETE MEMORISATION OF THE MENU. No mistakes. EVER.<br/><br/>The tea is thermo nuclear hot. Just when you think it will have cooled down, you pour a new cup, but boom still boiling hot. Thermos baby. <br/><br/>Then your food arrives and you are blown away. Amazing flavours amazing smells, trust me. <br/>

Love this place. The ambiance was lovely and the service is great too. Food came really fast. It was tasty and at a very very reasonable price. Definitely recommend coming here. The only negative is that the appetisers were tiny.

The only place in town I know to get Vietnamese Rice Noodles, which have become of one my favourite food quite recently. I ordered C12 - Panfried Chicken with Lemongrass & Rice Noodle Soup with extra wontons. The noodle soup and the wontons were pretty average but the panfried chicken was really nice - crispy on the outside, the meat was tender and the lemon grass on top making it extra tasty.

Classic Vietnamese go-to in Auckland, Hansan has made a name for itself as a tasty, affordable and efficient restaurant. <br/>All dishes are incredible affordable and most certainly fulfilling! <br/>I’ve gotten soup dishes, noodle dishes, stir fry dishes before. Most recently I tried their Stir-Fry Beef with Vermicilli; partner got Raw Beef Glass Noodles. Also got pork rolls as an appetiser. <br/><br/>Food rolled out extremely fast. My beef vermicelli was deliciously fresh, flavourful and fulfilling. The pork rolls were good too; the lemongrass sauce definitely enhances the flavours and freshness of them. <br/><br/>It set us back by ~$34 and we left satisfied. <br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Price: 10/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Service: 9/10

Very friendly and helpful staff. I think they are actually better than other pho places in cbd. Not very Vietnamese somewhat westernized but still really delicious and they offer variety of menu to choose from so if you are in a group eceryone can get it to thier liking! highly recommend ! (If you park by the park it's a short walk too!)
Dini
Nice simple food. It's not overly over the top in terms of food or service, but it's simple, nice and the service is pretty quick. Worth it for a quick low key bite.
Selene Nguyen 🌸
Came to this place looking for authentic vietnamese food. Ordered beef noodle soup (pho)! The broth was so plain and the noodle is from package (instant) not freshly made like the one you find in vietnam!
Hotdog&Buns
Always flooded with people during lunch time due to it being so close to the University.<br/><br/>Their menu offers so many items that it's hard to decide. A photo is included for every item which is a nice touch. Things are a little more expensive than I'd be willing to pay.<br/><br/>Their pho has a nice broth and comes in a giant bowl with a big serving of noodles. The beef was extremely flavorful. My only complaint is that the beef was incredibly greasy, the dish arrived with it soaking in oil as you can tell from the picture.
Krystyna
Love Hansan! Great service and quality food, faves would be the pork spare ribs with rice noodles and pork spare ribs with vermicelli 😍 prices have slightly gone up though, used to be much cheaper - a bit expensive these days
Jade0289
I love Vietnam style rice noodles! This place is known for their chicken with lemon grass on rice / rice noodles. They are really good indeed but my partner and I tried something else this time. The wonton noodle soup was satisfying to my partner and my beef& tomato noodle soup was nice too. Prices are reasonable.
Jason Zhang
Good service as you enter the store. The quantity and quality of the food is decent (one of the main Vietnamese dishes is Pho, and it was pretty tasty and filling). The soup could’ve been a tiny bit less salty and less flavorful as I’ve just came back from Vietnam and it tastes quite different over there. This makes it more ‘refreshing’. The price isn't expensive and the restaurant is fairly clean and roomy. It's what you would expect for a casual dining and affordable by university students.<br/><br/>Taste - 7/10<br/>Size - 7/10<br/>Service - 7/10<br/>Price - 7/10

10/10 would recommend! Best value for money in cbd area for vietnamese food. Really good service and really reasonable prices for some good vibes and good food :) would recommend for both casual dinners and lunches ☆

Personally, Hansan is the best vietnamese restaurant in NZ! I looooove their noodles and rice . I even really miss them when I'm away from Auckland. Also the tea is always free of charge. So gooood

Visit date: 25/07/17<br/>Time : lunch<br/>Clean and light for the ambience, fast and nice service (even in the busy time), food taste good (I ate the lemongrass chicken with rice noodle one). <br/>I love chili and they have the preserved sliced chili for the guests so that was a nice bonus for me. <br/>Definetly will come back 😊

Had the shrimp and pork summer rolls, love it! never had one with pork inside so it's definitely a first time for me. I shared the Pho Tai Chin with my friend. It wasn't as rich as i expected. But the noodles were nicely cooked and the beef were smooth too. Service was good, we got tea and water as complimentary. The restaurant itself was nice and chill.

Food was below average. We had to walk up to the counter to get the vegetarian menu ourselves. <br/><br/>Service was poor, waitress just gave us our food and without telling us what each dish was.

Nom nom nom I love Vietnamese food. This is the fastest and most well known place. <br/><br/>It's not too pricy and not dirt cheap.. the quality is consistent. The longan shake is the best shake drink in auckland. <br/><br/>Service is friendly and professional. Will be back again.<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Presentation: 3/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4/5<br/>Price: $20-$25pp

I was in this restaurant on Saturday the 30th of April 6pm. So its dinner time. The first impression was the services was good, friendly staff and quick as well.<br/><br/>When it come to the food i would say its a good portion with decent price, however and improvement on the taste will be great ☺️<br/><br/>Services : good<br/>Food : good portion with a decent price<br/><br/><br/>

I like the less oil in all the food that make you feel very light and comfortable after lunch. Beef sliced very thin. The temperature of noodle soup will Cook the meat and bean sprout just well.
AJ
Food and service quality has declined over the last few years. Firstly our waitress who served us looked absolutely miserable, no smile or greeting whatsoever, barely said a word, and did everything abruptly. The place wasn't even half full, so there was no excuse. I used to think their pho was decent, but honestly it was difficult for me to disregard how lacking and "off" it was compared to pho in cities like Melbourne. There was quite a lot of meat in the big bowl of pho, so still, good value for money. Summer spring rolls was really fresh and good though, at least. Hainanese Chicken rice was just ok, the accompanying broth tasted a little odd. Lemongrass pork was tasty when I had it some time ago. Won't be back in a very very long while unless I'm craving for fresh spring rolls, for which I am unlikely to come back just for.
Daniel
This location is way smaller than the Mt Wellington one I went to but the food here is still of the same quality.<br/>The service is pretty good and the food decently fast.<br/>I always get the Lemon Grass Chicken with Rice! and I like the Jack Fruit Shake.
Elle
Not the best service (you will need to go up and order), however decent food at a reasonable price! The rice noodles in the beef and tomato broth is very tasty! I also recomment their satay chicken! As for desserts the sticky rice coconut cream taro dessert is sure to please! The red bean coconut cream drink is a bit of a hit and miss - sometimes the red bean tastes off (like they have kept it for too long) and they put too much ice in it.

Love coming here for lunch. Food comes out super quick, tastes spectacular every time and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.<br/>The service is alright, and the environment is pretty good.<br/>Would recommend although it gets super busy around lunch time during weekdays.
I Love To Chew Real Food
Looooooveeeeeeeee this. The only thing that I don't like about this place is that they close so early! I wish they can serve the customer fresh chili instead of the preserve ones on the tables. That would be so nice.

■ Great portion sizes<br/>■ Clean & Spacious<br/>■ Good Value for $$<br/><br/>■ Service can be improved<br/><br/>Damn this place is packed! At least it was when we arrived for lunch a while back. It was my first time at Hansan so I didn't really know what to expect. I reckon it's pretty good bang for your buck because one word; Big portions! Perfect for the cold, rainy nights when you dunno where to go for dinner and you wanna fill up a big appetite. Their menus make it easier to visualize before ordering and I really wanna try all their soups. They all look soo good! We throughly enjoyed our meals which were filling and plentiful in flavour. Will be back for sure!

We went to Hansan for lunch during a trip to Auckland. Its a popular place for students and professionals and during lunch can be quite busy. I really liked the lemon grass and chicken with rice. The chicken was tender and cooked well with lots of flavour. Their customer service was friendly though a bit slow as they were trying to cope with the lunch rush. Overall pleasant experience and I would recommend to anyone visiting or looking for a good Vietnamese place in Auckland.
Veronica Te
Really big portions for the price you pay. Not the most authentic Vietnamese food. They have a nice layout and the service is pretty good. Its often filled with uni students
Kirsten
Today was my first time coming to the CBD branch, since I usually to go to the one in Newmarket. I ordered the Pho with Lemongrass Chicken, and my friend ordered the Pho with Pork chops. Pricing is reasonable as our meals were $13.80 each. Our food came in five minutes, which was awesome. I was so hungry, I couldn't stand my stomach grumbling! The food itself wasn't salty, because the one in Newmarket is reallt salty. Portion sizes were reasonable, as I was so bloated at the end. Thumbs up, Hansan! Vietnamese food is another great asian cuisine to try.
Thegreeats
Friendly service and delicious food<br/>Usually gets quite busy<br/>Sometimes tables aren't very clean :(<br/>I think the Mt wellington + new market are the best branches but this one isn't bad!

Tried this place on my very 1st night in the city of Auckland. I was craving for vietnamese food. To me the overall food here are OK. But not so OK if you compare with some famous Vietnamese Restaurant in Melbourne or Sydney...<br/>Maybe for people that live here this could be one of the best Vietnamese Restaurant (judging from the crowd on weekdays during dinner time).<br/>However, for a city as further as Auckland, I'd give a discount on my ratings... <br/>this should be one of the excellent delicacies.<br/>And the price is affordable too. <br/>
Michelle Hwang
Lots of people like going to Hanshan for grabbing some Vietnamese rice noodle dishes. To me, the taste of their dishes is not bad. I am also satisfied with the price.
Lisa Kim
The shrimp fried rice was so nice but too salty to finish without more rice. Noodles were also good and the soup of the noodle was better than the actual noodle.
Renee
Yesterday I came in with a group of 4. I ordered one of my favourite dishes, wonton soup. The food - it was GREAT. I slurped up every last bit of my soup, chowed down all of my wontons. Yum. However, the service was absolutely atrocious! As we arrived, we politely asked one of the waitresses to clear our table and she responded rudely, then made it obvious that she was very reluctant to do so. They all looked absolutely miserable (the waitresses, I mean). None of them spoke to us, they just quickly threw our dishes on the table. When I lined up at the till to pay, one of them was carrying some plates and just stood there staring at us with a extremely foul/dirty look, expecting us to move without having the common courtesy to even say something along the lines of "Excuse me please". Terrible service.
Linh 💛
Whatever this place is selling, it is not Vietnamese cuisine. Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) is so bad, if you're selling Vietnamese food, at least you need to get Pho right. I can't even find my two pieces of meat and the small bit of noodles in the ocean of soup :| and Vietnamese DO NOT have the same broth for every noodle soup. Also the food here, especially soup, is too sweet, wondering how much sugar or MSG they put in there.I have been here several times, the last time I ordered lemongrass chicken with rice, it wasn't so bad but I had stomachache afterwards. Overall not authentic Vietnamese food, no matter how affordable, I won't be coming back.
Issie
Great location, afforable prices and tasty noodles. I crave it during the colder months but none the less a great place to go after a hangover or just a craving for some pho. I like how they have many variety within the main pho menu. really packed during lunch rush hours.
FoodiePhysician
Nice food decent prices reliable friendly<br/><br/>Has a nicer decor and layout compared to some of the other hansans around town<br/><br/>Everything esp noodle soups are worth a try<br/><br/>3.5 Yums
Marco
We had dinner there today I order BBQ beef on rice noodles , they told them I want big wide rice noodles when I got food ... Food wasn't BBQ beef , beef was pane fry and oily noodles was skinny I asked them again they this same one you order .... No good at all I payed full price just west time there
Jessica Li
This place was so gooood! I can't believe I have never been here before. Everything is decently priced and the portion sizes are generous. The food came out really fast as well. I would definitely recommend 😋

While this Hansan branch may be tucked away, you don't want to miss it!Hansan is the ultimate in cheap and cheerful restaurants and is perfect for large groups. Incredible tasting vietnamese food, decent sized menu and crazy low prices - all dishes are under $15 I think! Be sue to try the shredded pork summer rolls, spring rolls and peanut satay chicken.   <br/>Staff are attentive and tables are always clean.
Victoria
Good simple food at an affordable price. The menu is quite varied (great for groups) but primarily Vietnamese. Ordered the egg noodles with pork ribs on the side. Both done well, the broth with the egg noodle soup was very nice. Quite a large portion.<br/><br/>The interior is a lot nicer than many other eats around the same price, so that's a plus. A good place to go for a weeknight dinner when you're stuck on ideas for where to eat and after something casual and consistent. Service was excellent.
Sophie Ly
This is a great cheap place to eat! I've been to Hansan so many times and I do find myself enjoying my meal. While i  wouldn't say they're food is authentic vietnamese food, it does the job of satisfying a vietnamese craving at a very reasonable price. My go-to order is the lemongrass pork on vermicelli noodles with salad and it tastes so good and is so fulling! the chicken pho is also really good (especially with lemon!!) and i fully recommend try the cha gio, which are these deep fried heaven rolls!!! I enjoy how fast the food comes out also, the worst thing is having to wait forever for your food to come out while you're starving, but this is never a problem here. The service here is ok and i will definitely be coming back for more!
Karan
This is probably my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Auckland. Service is friendly and fast, the restaurant has a great atmosphere, and the food is very good! In particular, I love the pan-fried pork/chicken with lemon grass on rice. They also have a wonderful range of delicious Vietnamese desserts and beverages - I try a different one each time, and have loved almost all of them so far. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service that you get.
Razelle Icaro
Still one of my fav vietnamese places! The soup is so tasty, not bland at all. The servings are soo big and prices are reasonable! The ambiance of the place is really nice and bright and staff are always approachable. Definitely a go-to!
Ed
Interesting Vietnamese place that has a few branches here and there. The taste of each branch is basically the same.<br/><br/>They do seem to have a small variety of dishes that are offered, but they're mostly just "recycled" with the same ingredients but with different sides.<br/><br/>Food: 5/10<br/>Service: 3.5/5 <br/>Ambience: 3/5<br/>Value: 3/5<br/>Overall: 14.5/25
Helena Chen
Great Vietnamese place that deserves more recognition! The space is clean and modern, with polite staff and a pleasant atmosphere inside. The food come in big portions that are definitely authentic tasting and very flavourful! The noodles would have to be my favourite, so warm and soothing on a cold night. Also, the prices are so affordable, perfect for students and so close to uni as well.
Simone Halstead
This is my favourite Hansen! Super close to uni and the service is good to. C12 or c13 are my go to's super filling and tasty with generous amounts of lemongrass chicken which has the perfect flavour.<br/>
Tevita
Affordable and decent food. I always head here after work for a bite to eat because I love the C09 dish (Stir Fried Chicken with Vermicelli) and the B15 (Stir Fried Beef with Vermicelli). I also ordered on a number of occasions, the wontons. They are tasty!<br/><br/>Doesn't seem like the owners or workers are Vietnamese but this isn't a big issue. They serve me complimentary jasmine tea with my dine-in purchases which I particularly like.<br/><br/>There is a guy that works there that I usually see when I eat, looks late 20's. He is very friendly with me. Well done my friend!<br/><br/>The place is well maintained and is kept tidy. The music is random, no common theme to the playlist but they seem to play modern music that everyone seems to hear on the radio. Changes the vibe slightly but doesn't affect it too negatively.<br/>I would recommend a visit to this restaurant if you haven't already!
Ryan
Good for a big group as their meals are cheap and they do BYO. Extensive menu and quick service. Good consistent food at a good price. Actually quite a nice restaurant for food court prices.
Zoe Huang
Actually this restaurant is quite hard to be noticed. However, it is a nice cheap restaurant with bright, fashion design. Seems like it is operated by Korean rather than Vietnamese though. I ordered Barbecued Beef Skewer with Fine Vermicelli ($12) and Shrimps & Pork Summer Roll ($5.5), both are very nice.
Dianca Mitchell
Aucklands' spastic winter nights are perfect for a visit to Hansan. Quality service and fast delivery! In terms of food, not the best Vietnamese I've had, but definitely one of the stronger Viet places in Auckland.
Brenda Phu
The food here is one of my favourite authentic Vietnamese eats.<br/>The flavours aren't lacking and the portions are large for the mains.<br/>I always order P10: Pork Spare Ribs on Rice, or B01: Pho Tai. It's just like how mum would make it.<br/>They have great service and the decor and hygiene is very consistent across the branches and of high quality.<br/>I would recommend this restaurant.
Sheena
I have been here so many times! I came here for dinner tonight and it was still pretty consistent in terms of service and food.<br/><br/>This place was very busy when we came in, were greeted by a waitress who was carrying meals out to other people dining there. We were seated quickly and tea was brought out to us fast as well. The tea was served in a metal flask which kept the tea nice and hot throughout our entire meal! This was a nice change. <br/><br/>I ordered the raw and cooked beef pho tonight (pho tai chin) and Jessica ordered the wonton soup. Our meals came out very fast: within ten minutes! I thought this was good considering how busy it was! My soup tasted good! Not as authentic Vietnamese as other restaurants that I've been to however. The portion sizes are huge as well. I usually never manage to finish my noodles, but tonight I did! I probably would order the completely raw beef pho next time because the "cooked" beef that came in this one had fatty bits in them which I didn't actually eat! Jessica really liked her soup and wontons, but couldn't finish her meal. <br/><br/>I also ordered a grass jelly drink with coconut cream and Jessica got the longan drink. These were really good! <br/><br/>Because of Hansan's prime location and close proximity to uni, I most likely will be back soon!
FOODFANATICJIMMY
Unfortunately, this place has come to disappoint in recent visits. Before the recent renovations, this place was ok. However, their soups have become one of the most bland soups I have ever tasted in any Vietnamese restaurant. Their deep fried spring rolls...Just no. Something definately missing in the flavour. The portion size for the noodle soups have decreased also, in my opinion. However, the only reason I give 3.0 is because some of their rice dishes are ok along with the interior. I do hope that their broth becomes more flavourful because I am sure that they will be able to attract more customers. Personally though, it's a NO. I don't go here anymore.
Aniva Huang
Good place for a quick asian fix. <br/>Not authentic vietnamese food for sure but it's not bad. <br/><br/>I personally don't like their noodle broth. It tastes artificial. I like the range of noodle choices for each noodle soup. <br/><br/>I get the vermicelli salads and beef stew noodle soup. Definitely better than their noodle soups in clear broth. <br/><br/>
Brave Eat
This hansan is unfortunately the worst one out of all hansans i have been to. Soups dont taste the same and amount of noodles and meat is so much less than other hansans very disappointing.
Sungsam7
Our go to place for quick tasty and spicy Thai in the CBD not to mention very reasonably priced. My usual due to the flavors is the 'Bun Thit Ga Uop Xa Chein'. The broth is excellent. The thinly sliced vege and sprouts gives this dish a crisp and crunchy experience. The chicken is usually cooked well and plenty of also. I almost always leave a bit in the bowl as its very filling. A lovely lunch especially through the colder months that won't leave you out of pocket, will keep you full till almost dinner time and delights the taste buds. <br/>The decor is clean, the service is quick.
Jamie
The prices are great. I expected it to be more expensive but the prices are surprisingly low for mains. The food tastes good for the price, although I didn't feel the "wow" factor. The restaurant is clean and and has a modern feel, but I wasn't dining in as I ordered take-away.
Rocky Mak
After the renovations, which merely increased the back-of-house area because the customer sitting in the extra seatings at the back of the restaurant actually were disadvantaged by the waiting staff neglecting them.  Not any more.  The new staff were very attentive and efficient, even when I only ordered raw beef soup noodle because I wasn't dining with my family. The beef noodle shrunk in size a little, which made it easier for me to finish my dinner, not too sure how it would fare if I went there with my family for sharing, though I probably won't because lack of free parking is still a concern.I asked for the beer and wine menu, but they said they had to reapply for the license because the on-license lapsed during the renovations.  It shouldn't be a problem, but I understand if it can't be reissued.  Some customer complained about the lights being too bright as I was leaving, but given that Kitchener Street is a dark alley outside of Albert Park, the bright lightings are actually needed for security reasons more than anything.

Bland food but good atmosphere. Tucked away in a nice little corner. Decent price for food if in a yight budget but want decent portions :).
Perlie Hu
it was a nice experience. it is just a fast food restaurant, I didn't expect too much from the service. so the service is alright for me. food cooking was fast, beef curry soup noodle was nice. like the place. it is a perfect place to have a hot soup noodle without spending a lot.
Raffey Khan
Food Hygiene Rating was only a B. Not an A as stated above. The meal was below satisfactory and so was the level of quality by the staff. The food was barely edible and half our meals were left incomplete. Would not recommend or go there again. Avoid if you don't want to waste money!
Rebecca Smith
I went to Hansan for dinner on a cold, rainy night, the prefect weather for a steaming bowl of noodle soup. We ordered the fried chicken wings with lemon grass to start and the curry beef stew with fine egg noodles and combination beef noodle soup and a lychee shake. Service was incredibly fast. The chicken wings were nice and crispy with lots of lemon grass. Both main dishes were tasty but the curry beef stew had the edge for me. Tender beef pieces in a flavoursome spicy soup. My dining partner however preferred the beef noodle soup, different preferences I guess. The meals were very large and we didn't actually finish them, definitely great value. The lychee milkshake was also delicious. I will definitely be going back to Hansan.

We love Vietnamese food but this was so not good.<br/><br/>There was a table of 20+ people in there who were so loud and drunk we couldn't talk to each other.<br/><br/>Food had oil coming out all over the plates and it just tasted so average.

Absolutely horrible restaurant.<br/><br/>1) Spring rolls at $5.70 and you get 2 chopstick sized rolls. WAY TOO overpriced for what you get. Filling seemed like it had accumulated dust over 2 weeks before wrapped into rolls.<br/><br/>2) Pho (Beef noodle soup) tasted like soapwater, had no flavour, god even the herbs didn't taste like herbs. The only thing remotely resembling the dish was the meat itself, and you certainly can never get the meat wrong. NEVER TRY THIS.<br/><br/>3) Lemon grass chicken tasted as if it had been prepared 1/2 hour before it got out to us, as it had come out all at once. All dry, tasteless, fatty. <br/><br/>4) Not authentic Vietnamese food, none of the people who worked there spoke in Vietnamese. Also spoke and swore out loud in Chinese, which is extremely rude.<br/><br/>Would never, ever, EVER go back to this restaurant.

Ain't nothing like a nice soup after a big night out I must say and this is the place to be.. Staff are very friendly and the place is nice and comfortable. Food is very tasty and meal portions are good and price is affordable. Will definitely be going back.

I walk past this place all the time on the way up to uni but finally decided to check it out for lunch.<br/><br/>Was not disappointed ! Ordered deep fried spring rolls as entrée and chicken lemon grass vermicelli as a main.<br/><br/>Spring rolls was crispy! vermicelli was light and pretty filling !<br/><br/>Only complaint would be that the food took awhile to come out but understandable as the place was packed.<br/><br/>Can't complain...nice design...good portion...well priced<br/><br/>100% will revisit

So so. What if I were a Vietnamese? Might say they have little flavor and herbs. Might say the broth has almost no taste and the lemongrass chicken so greasy.<br/>Nice portion enough to make us full just with a little more than ten bucks. Might be great...I should not complain...<br/>But still, I love to eat authentic Vietnamese. One I had in Takapuna Market tasted better.<br/>So if you don't mind it arranged for something Korean or Chinese, this could be a nice place. As many taste as people.

Went last night for the first time in this branch, used to go to the other 3 in Glenfield, Panmure and Newmarket before and always came out full and happy. So I thought why not give this one a go since I can found a parking nearby. Had beef curry last night for my dinner. Came out as not even close as what we called curry. The soup was bland, there was no coconut cream as what I used to have in the other 3 restaurant. Genuinely got confused and checked with the menu if they mistakenly gave me another dish. Double checked with the waiter and he brings my dish back to kitchen and even checked it with the chef. And still they told me that it was the one I ordered. Very disappointing since on top of the bill still got to pay for the parking and the food is not even close with what I'm expected to come. Definitely will not coming back.

I would not normally write a review but this was so bad i want to warn people so they don't make the same mistake. Does not even resemble Vietnamese. The food had zero flavour, no use of herbs and vegetable few and far between. We had lemongrass chicken salad and lemongrass chicken soup. The broth was bland, the chicken was dry yet fatty and the bits of chicken floating in the soup were very suspicious looking. The salad was some old grated carrot, wilting iceberg and a heap of noodles, no flavour, no herbs nothing typically Vietnamese. Very disappointing experience since the restaurant is modern and clean. Will not be returning.

Like the rest of the Hansan chains, they serve amazing rice noodles and I have never been disappointed. Their food is always good and the portions are decent, which is probably why they always have lots of customers. Hope they continue the good work

Worst Hansan between the 3 i've been to (CBD, New Market, Pamure). <br/><br/>Staff are rude and it's hard to get their attention - took me 15minutes to ask for sugar for my coffee. Also irritating that it's winter but they leave the sliding door wide open (especially when you've been seated in direct contact with the wind coming in), I had to get up several times to close it myself. <br/><br/>Broth in our noodle soups are always luke warm and there's a 50/50 chance our order will go wrong; a friend ended up with something else and we had to wait another 10minutes for her meal to arrive. <br/><br/>Don't try the Hainese Chicken, it tastes like old chicken. <br/><br/>Quality of Hansan food and service has gone down in recent months/years; go elsewhere for authentic Vietnamese food.

It's hard to find a good, authentic Vietnamese place to eat in Auckland. However, Hansan has to be the most un-authentic Vietnamese restaurant I've encountered. Service wasn't pleasant- the waitress was quite unenthusiastic to serve customers, didn't seem to know the menu and/or had limited english, and my request for no coconut cream on top when I ordered my drink became a process more difficult than I thought to be carried out (Shouldn't this actually save them the trouble of not having to add an extra component?). I was greatly disappointed as I had heard a lot about this place but the food seems to be garnered toward an audience looking for a cuisine that is suited to a foreign palate.

Summary: Hansan is a refreshing change from the limited selection on Kitchener Street. Price is good but the atmosphere is fun, unique, and the staff is mostly friendly. It is definitely worth stopping in when you have a few extra dollars and want a break from the standard meal on queen st. I'm a regular and frequently bring out-of-town visitors here. <br/><br/>Drinks: The drinks are pricey, but well worth it, since they are meant for sipping and tend to last a while. Lychee is my favorite, but the ice coffee is also worth a go. Traffic light is their "award-winning drink" but it's hit-or-miss depending on who makes it. However, like the entire place, it's nice that they are always trying to be up to standards.<br/><br/>Food: The menu has a wide selection but the variety is accommodating for below average size portions. The Lemon grass chicken, beef black pepper, and young chow fried rice are heartier, tasty, and filling. For those who feel the place is pricey, these plates give you more bang for your buck. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: <br/>* Trendy decor<br/>* Low, flattering lighting<br/>* Comfortable seating<br/>* Friendly staff<br/>* Back area for those who want a more secluded place to sit<br/>* Usually playing good music, but not too loud so you can have actual conversations<br/>* Clean bathrooms

Former writer for Timeout Magazine in Hong Kong. Decided to pop my writers cherry in New Zealand starting off with one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. <br/><br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Waiters and waitresses seemed like they were all UNI students and very well mannered and knew the menu well. Talkative and good for small chit-chat while waiting for your meal which is why I'm writing this well deserved review. <br/><br/>Convenience - 4/5<br/>For UNI students it's just a walk down the hill from Albert Park. For the busy chap, there's sufficient street parking and a public carpark right next door. Definitely a bonus when it comes to dining out in the city. <br/><br/>Food - 4/5<br/>The extensive and clear menu that Hansan provides was what made a strong impression for me the first time I visited. A lot of vietnamese menus are complex and all over the place, but at Hansan the whole menu is neatly categorized for customer's convenience. <br/>My combo for any Vietnamese restaurant is always the raw beef noodle soup, spring rolls and traffic light - signature dishes for Vietnamese cuisine. The soup base for the raw beef noodles is light but flavorful. The raw beef is what surprised got me slurping away and after I was told by staff members that they used premium New Zealand beef which explained why my bowl was already half empty after 5 minutes. The spring rolls was what I expected a spring roll to taste like, but the authentic Vietnamese sauce is definitely worth mentioning. The traffic light being my favorite desert did not disappoint although I wouldn't recommend it if you're dehydrated after a walk down from Albert park unless you are prepared to order two. <br/><br/>Price - 5/5<br/>Big portion for small value. Under $20 for a happy full course with appetizer, main and desert. No complaints. <br/><br/>Keep it up!

Im a student at NSIA and hansan is a place I often for lunch after class.<br/><br/>food is cheap...all mains round 12$ and comes in huge portions. Menu is also extensive ranging from pan fried chicken with a bowl of noodles soup to beef black pepper on rice to more traditional pork spare rib vermicelli. There is definitely something for everyone to enjoy! Takes rougly 10-15mins to come out so its fast and good for a lunch option.<br/><br/>Got a good drinks option from fruit shakes to ice coffee. They also have byo option and is fully licence. Ive seen them cater for larger groups of 15-20 people before too!<br/><br/>Good interior and place is clean and tidy. Definitely recommend!

great place for a fast , cheap and filling meal !!!<br/><br/>had deep fried spring rolls + spare rib egg noodles<br/>- spring rolls were hot and yum<br/>- spare ribs were crispy on outside and juicy on the inside/ egg noodles were stringy and soup was good<br/><br/>all together the meal was a tad over 17$ for entree and main + tea. HUGE value + portions was very generous.<br/><br/>service could have been better but understandable as it was a full house during lunch! have made this place part of my weekly lunch option and would recommend highly ~~

Just had a dinner after work around 8pm n amazed to find this restaurant to still be busy so came here for dinner. Place were well decorated n were grated with a mini fountain at the front door. Not surprise to see why they are busy. Food with low price and was served within 10 minutes after we have ordered. Noodle soup were well made and considerably great portion to fill a big man up. Great taste and nice presentation... Definitely good value and will recommend to all my friends and colleague. Consider making a reservation before you decide to come here next time as they are always busy and I was lucky to find myself a seat tonight. The only downside would be the noise and crowds but there are other quiet seats options available if you consult the staff

At Hansan, delicious Vietnamese food is both cheap and plentiful. The staff is friendly and service is reasonably fast.<br/><br/>I ordered the fried wontons and the pan fried chicken with lemon grass egg noodles soup. The wontons were really good - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pan fried chicken with soup was tasty and very generous for just $12. I left feeling quite full and very satisfied. Excellent food for the price!

Hansan is a South-East Asian restaurant, with a variety of dishes from Cambodia and Vietnam mainly. The selection is impressive, ranging from chicken, beef, pork and seafood and noodles of the rice and egg variety. Giving a lot of diversity and selection to please every customer. It has always been busy visiting the Hansan in the city - because of this, sometimes you might get seated in the back area which is incredibly suffocating and hot. If they had an air conditioner or somehow get some ventilation there, it would be much better. Service is adequate, expectant of a quick and busy restaurant. <br/><br/>Would reckon for a change in your lunch/dinner routine and definitely affordable and located quite close to the middle of the city.

Hansan is a really nice Vietnamese restaurant hidden away in the quiet streets of Auckland CBD. Although not 100% authentic, the food is still very good and is definitely value for money. The staff are kind and polite and there are plenty of seats to host a small dinner gathering. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cheap and tasty Asian meal for lunch or dinner.
