Review Neptune - Auckland Central

Club Paradox Nelson
Fantastic meal of fish n chips! Excellent view of the harbour plus the owner of over 20 years is just lovely. So glad I stopped here!

Had dinner here without a booking. Staff were extremely accomodating, friendly and helpful. Water views were immaculate. Ordered a seafood paella and the market fish of the day. Both dishes were very delicious and well worth the price. Would definitely come back here again.

The meals here are so good!! Great value, size and delicious in beautiful location. Highly recommended

We had a lovely meal at Neptunes, they had been very busy but were very apologetic and gave great service! The food was delicious and the drinks were cheap ~ $5 wine & beer you can’t go wrong, especially with the beautiful view over the water. They were open late mid week which seems to be a rarity in Auckland. Thank you Neptunes for a wonderful evening!

Third time i been here today...Cheapest drinks on Princes Wharf...Friendliest Staff and Ed, Owner, GREAT HOST. Food is great. Not too packed unless Fullers Staff are here ( it's their 'local') . Great music if you like old school, 60s-80s/90s. I'd recommend this place to those unable to afford drinks at the close by Viaduct premises. Cheap cocktails from $14, Top shelf $3.50 p/shot, wine n beer $5...

A seafood restaurant on queens wharf. Great location, can imagine how lovely it would be to sit here on a summer evening with drinks overlooking the water. All our meals were tasty, especially loved the spicy prawns entree. Not much available for dessert but we weren't there for dessert anyway. Definitely be going back

We came for coffee, amazing service! Overlooking the harbour, you will surely enjoy the view, food and hospitality. We will surely come back..

We've been here a couple of times now. Nice service and a solid staff with a million dollar view. In addition, fair pricing means this will be a place we frequent more and more!
Rachel
This place is awesome! Such lovely service and well decorated with a nice view. The drinks were delicious and really great prices too. The owner was very sweet and helped us out when we were being harassed by an intoxicated non-customer. Definitely recommend for a couple of drinks with your mates, but please be respectful in their bar!!

Would get 5 star if they tidy up all the clutter on the sides of the restaurant, not a pleasing sight indoors to see by the kitchen clutter. However having said that, the food is top notch, really friendly waiters and good service!

What a hidden Gem! This must have the freshest and tastiest seafood in Auckland. Neptunes is tucked halfway down princes wharf with beautiful fees out to the harbour bridge. We sat outside as it was sheltered from the wind… the place was packed! I ordered the fish of the day and was blown away by portion size, price and taste. Hubby had the battered fish and chips … the batter was light and tasty… done perfectly. Finally some decent old fashioned fish & chips. Cocktails were priced and on point. Young bartender but she definitely knew what she was doing. So happy we found this place. Staff super friendly and attentive. Will be back again very soon.

On the wharf side facing bridge-end of harbour, across from maritime museum. Food was beautiful, huge variety of choices, service fast, pasta portions were huge. Decor just needs a freshening up to match their upmarket competitors/neighbours. Would definitely come here again.

You will never find a restaurant or bar that has better service or prices than Neptune's. It's not too loud and the view is brilliant.
Brie Krend
This is really hidden on the wharf but worth the find. They had an awesome dessert menu to follow a great pasta meal.

Super nice food. Friendly staff! Beautiful location! Highly recommend this place!

Glad to visit again especially since there weren't too many places to eat. Great staff, and menu options were good as well. I had the BBQ Texas Ribs with mash. Being an American that love ribs, I recommend this to everyone. The right tenderness and the sauce was Great, not to mention the mash was melt in your mouth with great flavors! The location and vibe is great, and to top it off there wasn't a holiday surcharge! Thanks and looking forward to supporting you more and coming in for more yums.

Good value food and fast service. Only negative was that the table water was not chilled and not all of the wines on the wine list were available chilled.
Hayden Jarmey
Awesome pork belly!!!! Great tap beers as well , nice affordable place to dine anytime!!
Colin Vale
Always great food and decent size portions, happy hour with $5.00 beers as well.

More than meets the eye! This place looks out of place for its location, however the food is quite good and is great value for money. Don't be fooled by the faded and shabby decor - the food and wine more than makes up for it. Granted, there may often be only one or two staff working, and when it's busy they can be inattentive, but for a quick and reasonably inexpensive lunch or dinner you can't go past this place on Prince's Wharf

We had steak and seafood risotto and pumpkin soup. Food was great. Staff were nice but it could be better if there were more staff to cater this busy place.

Dined here on a Friday or Saturday night. The staff were friendly and welcoming but a little inexperienced or unprofessional. After our first beverage we weren't asked whether we'd like another and we there for around 2 hours.
I had the steak and it was beautiful, tender and delicious. The salad was okay.
Towards the end of the night and sure it was a bit quiet because of all the road works and barriers in the area, they started cleaning. I got up to use the bathroom and the floor was so slippery it was really dangerous and I could barely stay on my feet( I was sober).
So, a mixed bag-nice food but please dont clean the floor while customers are still in the restaurant. We would've liked another drink and some dessert!

Food is awesome and the owner cum head chef is super friendly and makes the best fish and chips + seafood paella ever

We went here for new year eve and got a slow service. Food was prepared over 1 hour. Blank food. Bill was wrong. We got only 118$ and they charged us 156$. Never come again. High cost slow service.

Looked nice from the outside. When seated waited 40mins for our food, then the staff were confused as to who the food belonged to. I had a chicken style casserole which was very oily, I left most of it. My husband had the fish pie which tasted like frozen seafood. A couple who came in after we had sat down waited 30mins for sparkling water to be brought to them. Will not return or recommend.
Morgan Browne
Terribly slow service and inattentive staff. Nobody likes waiting 40min for drinks. Stood in a long queue to pay with upset diners along the whole line. Never again

My friend and I visited this place today and we are both very disappointed with our experience here, the food is average, service is slow and it’s overall expensive.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we chose a table in the corner outside. When we sat down, we realized that the table is not cleaned, used glasses and bread crumbs are still on the table and that already gave a bad first impression because when we arrived, there were only 1 table of 3 customers.

We ordered 1 x Calamari ($16.95) and it came in such small portions, 1 x Steam Mussels ($17.50) that looks nice but tasted quite bland, 1 x Pulled Duck Salad ($22.50) that one is average and it’s mostly just green leaves.

We also ordered 1 x Long Island Iced Tea ($17) and 1 x Mocktails ($9), both only arrived at our table by the time we finished our meal. During our meal, we have asked the waitress where our drinks at 3 times and every time we were told that it’s coming. Before our drinks arrived, we were offered free juices and to canceled our drinks and we have already agreed, but few minutes later the waitress turn up with our drinks instead.

During our meal, the waitress has come around to our table to brush off the bread crumbs that was left from previous customers. She brushed off the bread crumbs with her hand and it fell onto our bags, which we thought is very rude and unprofessional.

Overall, not a good experience and we won’t return.

Nice food and good service! It seems such an inconspicuous spot, very quiet despite being right by the water, but it has a very thorough menu, especially for seafood lovers, but there's a meat and vegetarian section all aside pasta and pizza options. Good lunchtime specials on house beer and wine too. Enjoyed the quattro stagioni pizza a lot but even better is the service of the Japanese waitress there!

We came by on a very windy day and felt for the tiny waitress trying to control all the flapping table clothes and signs in the gale! It's a little too reliant on its harbour view tables and I wouldn't recommend coming here on a very cold or windy day as they don't seem to have a way to shelter the outdoor area (at least without compromising the view).

Went here today as it was a stunning day and we needed a beer. The $5 beers brought us in! The waitress was accommodating and brought us our beers before we could glimpse at the menu. We decided to share the steamed mussels in a spicy coconut sauce. I was expecting a big black pot of mussels and a chunk of bread. However, we received a bowl of mussels and no bread. The mussels were fresh and just cooked but that sauce. Holy moly that sauce was delicious, too bad we didn't have bread to mope it up with!

Mixed review of our lunch today, started with the mixed vegetarian platter - it was huge and amazing ! Also had the calamari it was also good, few stringy bits but cooked nicely, ordered two mock tails one "sea breeze" which was nice , the other was a "piña colada" and was average - not coconutty enough, mains came out - ordered one chicken salad and one seared lamb salad , portion was huge but unfortunately both were average- quite a lot of fatty parts on the lamb which ended up half chewed :/ I hate having to spit things out ! Also the lamb was not seared like you would expect

+'S
Staff were reasonably attentive and bent over backwards to accomodate us, moving chairs tables etc to help us with our prams

Great location , sunny , boats to look at

Platter was fantastic ! Will return and just order that and the Seafood platter and nibble

Menu is large lots there to chose from

-'s

Lamb wasn't seared, stringy with fat
Accidentally charged for alcoholic cocktails instead of mocktails fixed at point of payment though.
Salads had a lot of dressing but the dressing lacked any punch to it.
Despite being a sunny day outside umbrellas were not put up we had to move inside half way through our meal
We're not asked if we wanted another drink with our meal after finishing the first ones.

Absolutely disgusting. Ordered a lamb shank. At end of meal spooned up the gravy and a piece of hard plastic the type takeaway containers are made of, lodged in the roof of my mouth.I discreetly pointed this out to the owner as I was paying. She said no charge. I realise that mistakes can be made so went back about a week later. She called me over and said I would have to pay as I had already had a free meal. She insinuated that I had put the plastic in the meal. I told her that I definitely did not do this and that I am an honest person. She wouldn't listen and accusingly insinuated that I had. She then came back five mins later and said the chef had refused to prepare a meal unless I paid up front. All this was done in front of customers. I was so embarrassed and very hurt. Would anyone be stupid enough to do this and then go back and try again! I certainly did not do this. Rang her the next day to discuss the matter. She wouldn't listen, talked over me again being very accusatory. In the end I hung up. I would certainly recommend staying away from this establishment.

Our orders came quickly and it was very tasty. Unfortunately it was all spoilt when it came to paying the bill. My sister was having troubles with the number buttons as it was incredibly stiff and the first transaction failed. On the 2nd transaction, my sister was shocked when she heard the Asian teller/waitress/counter women saying to her"I bet you $5 that you can't afford to pay for your food". My sister was lost for words and stunned at what she had heard. The transaction went through the 2nd time And my sister lost for words, stunned and humiliated stormed out of the cafe.

Came here the other day for lunch with a friend. The view was lovely and and the menu looked great. We ended up getting the seafood pasta and the ribs, both quality meals for a decent price. Would have bumped you up a rating if it wasn't for the fact that the ribs where served with stone cold water to dip my fingers in and no extra napkins which made eating them a lot messier than it could have been. Apart from that everything else with the food was pretty good it was just the service that let me down. When taking our order the waitress abruptly interrupted my friend and my conversation, I work in hospitality myself and am very good at pausing a conversation so the server can speak but she gave us no time to pause just spoke loudly overtop of us as soon at she got to the table. This happened a few times and was rather rude.

You may be questioning why I've marked you so low for an average waitress and messy meal and that's because as I was paying I noticed how filthy your coffee machine was, the steaming wand was completely caked with curdled yellow milk which is absolutely revolting and unhygienic - so happy we went elsewhere for coffee. I think the worst part was I didn't see a single person order a coffee the entire hour and a half we where there and it was very very slow so who knows how long that curdled mess had been sitting there attracting flies. It really made me question how clean you kept everything else.

One day I was wondering around viaduct area with my friend for dinner. Everywhere we wanted to go was packed and I saw Neptune filled with 50s and 60s people and some people from Fullers. Well I presumed that this place gotta do nice food because oldies are almost always right with choice of nice food and it seemed like a favourite spot for the people who work nearby.

we had ribs, chips and crab and walnut pasta and my guess was correct!

Ribs are tender, juicy and full of flavours! I liked how they sprinkled paprika powder on the top!
Crab and walnut pasta was a top notch. When my friend chose this pasta I said the crab the menu says would be those fake crab meat but no they use real crab meat and it tastes amazingly nice. It is a must try menu!

I think they have a lack of staff when it's busy. Orders were delayed and forgotten because it was overwhelmingly busy for only 2 waitstaff which diminishes quality of service. So I took off an half star for that.
Yul D'lima
Very abrupt and grumpy Asian lady who takes orders. Held our beers on the brim of the glasses.waiting staff eating dinner amidst paying customers. A child also works there . People run away, run away .. the only thing good is the view..
would give it zero stars if there was the option.

The food is average to terrible but the staff are worse...incompetent and rude. Can't pour a beer to save themselves, but that's not a problem really, the issue was the tbone tasted like blue cheese (my companion thought it was fish) but either way it was far from enjoyable. The seafood platter is odd, fish is not fresh, but packet/frozen and the accompaniment of big slabs of Brie, with pickled onions and cockles- was weird. Again not enjoyable. Don't bother there are plenty of other eateries and restaurants in the area which are far superior

What a gem this place is, always friendly service and great food. plus the outlook over the harbour on a stunning day just tops it all off. Has become a go to for a nice night out in the viaduct.

OMG THE BEST LAMB SHANKS IVE EVER HAD. Absolutely loved my experience here. It wasn't really busy when we went here. The staff were nice. My food took a while to get out but definitely worth the wait.

My friend ordered a pizza which was alright but the lamb was top notch.

Definitely recommend this place.

Great food, great service, great location and great atmosphere. I would recommend this place thoroughly. I'm actually going back tonight with some friends as we had such a great time.

Nice view. Good food. Not expensive. And excellent service. I was here with my family during sunset, and had a perfect dinner from drinks to dessert.

Today I went with my friends to have lunch and was really nice. We were looking a restaurant in the Pierre and we decide enter here. The fish and chips was delicious and the attention really good too.

I came here a couple of weeks ago as a sort of default option when the Graze and Feast event at Shed 10 was too busy. On first appearances the restaurant didn't seem well kept and rather dull - keeping in mind it is on the waterfront competing with some of the best restaurants in Auckland. We were one of two or three tables in the whole restaurant (never a good sign on a Friday night so should have known then). Was pleased that there were heaters outside as it was very chilly but we were very warm where we were sitting. The menu was a bit overwhelming - way too many dishes to choose from that it was hard to make an order. I expected a menu that predominantly featured fresh seafood (due to their name and position on the waterfront) but was disappointed. The menu was a real confusion of different foods - from pizza to pasta, risotto to burgers - there was no real theme being followed and nothing that we tried was special particularly for the amount of money they charged.Service was also very average. It wasn't terrible but it felt as though a couple of staff members were either very new or just very clueless - had to explain my order for a 'lemon lime and bitters' several times as two of the staff members didn't understand due to their broken english.
Overall it was a pretty lack lustre experience - there was no atmosphere, the food failed to impress and the staff were inattentive and awkward.
Definitely wouldn't go here again and can't imagine why anyone else would when there are so many amazing places on the waterfront

Had a great night out on Friday night at Neptune.
It was a cold night and the staff made sure we were cosy with the heaters all turned on.
The waiters Eddie and Ken were fantastic and attentive to our every need.
Had a few snacks and they were well priced and filling.

We just ordered a Garlic Bread (Oven bake French sticks with garlic and chopped parsley) to see if it was nice enough to stay there for dinner. It turned out to be something like ciabatta instead if French stick, which is OK, however, out of the 6 pieces of bread 3 of them were reheated from previous day and anyone could have told the difference, the bread was chewy, and the garlic and parsley mixture on the bread wasn't fresh. We were offered to have 2 pieces of bread replaced though. We still wouldn't go back.

I made a reservation a week in advance for my birthday dinner and yet when I showed up, they supposedly had no booking under my name and no seats available for my party of 5. We ended up walking around for an hour looking for somewhere to eat as it was a busy Saturday night.

I had talked to 2 different people on the phone once to make an initial reservation and then again to move the date back. Both times the speakers sounded disinterested and bored. The second time I might have understood her rushing and hurriedness to get off the phone as the restaurant sounded busy, but the fact that she assured me a booking for Saturday and then abruptly hung up the phone having obviously not made the reservation
is exasperating and there is no excuse.
I never plan to try and eat here again. Almost ruined my night.

Like many other reviewers, we sort of stumbled over this place when looking for dinner on Princess Warf. If I were only reviewing the main dish and nothing else, I would give this place a five. But due to poor service and a disappointing dessert, I've had to bring their rating down more than I would have liked to. Firstly, the service here isn't good. The waiters are disinterested and not at all attentive. They aren't exactly rude, but they aren't far off it. We had to wait ages for them to take our drinks and food orders. They didn't really smile and weren't very friendly. And they were very slow. We ordered the calamari to share which was cooked beautifully. The calamari were grilled slightly, without any batter. This is how calamari should be. Next came the main. Wow! I had the salmon with roast potato, steamed veges and béarnaise sauce. This dish was amazing, I loved it. The portion was very generous and the flavours all worked well together. Absolutely delicious! My pal had the fish and chips which she enjoyed. Her portion was large as well. Apparently, for dessert, we shared the lemon meringue pie. I seemed to have missed the memo about lemon meringue pie now being a pavlova! How bizarre! The base was sort of lemon flavoured but it wasn't a pastry base and the top was pavlova! I was so confused, and very annoyed. Finding lemon meringue pie on a menu is a rare occurrence and the opportunity to order it must always be taken! But when I found myself with a pavlova instead of lemon meringue, my heart sank. I really like pavlova, but I didn't want a pavlova, I wanted a lemon meringue pie, damn it! The dessert actually tasted quite nice but that is absolutely besides the point. Overall, I did enjoy the food here. This place really needs to improve it's service. It has an extensive menu, great food and a wonderful view, but the service is letting them down big time. This place also needs to understand that when you falsely advertise a desert, you are playing with my emotions.

Good location but truly dreadful dining experience. We waited over an hour from placing our order to the arrival of our food. Who knows how much longer we would have been required to wait if we hadn't said we we were about to leave. Other diners appeared to be experiencing similar delays. When it finally arrived the meal was tasteless, badly cooked and very poor value for money. No one seemed to be staying on for desserts - like us just looking to get away and put the evening down to experience. How does a restaurant as bad as this manage to stay in business?
Rykie Smit
Very disappointing. After we ordered we waited a very long time before my husband's shank arrived. After a while my stuffed pork arrived. The lamb shank had very little meat on it and was covered with sauce. My pork was extremely tough and tasteless with lots of muscle. It had the texture of cooked meat and I battled to cut it. Must have been very cheap cuts of pork. It was supposed to be stuffed with mushrooms, feta and pine nuts. There was very little filling between the two leathery pieces of meat.
I felt embarrassed because there were quite a number of tourists. I would hate to know what they think of NZ restaurants. I felt cheated, so must they.
I agree with the reviews which claim this was the worst dining experience.
Duane Parker
This has got to be the worst dining experience we have ever had.

Staff all ignored us and we had to order inside at the bar, guy on the bar was to busy feeding his face and texting on his phone so we had to wait for the one waiter who was doing everything to serve us.

The board outside advertised seafood chowder with bread so we ordered that as an entree. Steak on potato mash for one main and chicken for the other, the board outside also mentioned homemade crumble for desert so we ordered that as well, and 2 orange juices.

Well our juices never arrived, the chowder arrived with no bread and when I asked I was rudely told it did not come with bread, despite the sign saying otherwise, we went inside to order bread and i was told it would be a few minutes ,it never came also. My steak meal had old reheated Bearnaise sauce poured all over the plate, it was extremely sour, my partner enjoyed the chicken.
The desert never came either so after reminding the one working waiter (the others were 'enticing' people off the walkway by rudely ignoring anyone and being more concerned about social weekend activities) we were told an hour after finishing our meal that the crumble was a lunch desert option and not available for dinner so we went to pay.

We were charged for everything, when I went to debate it I was shrugged off, I was told our waiter who placed the original order had signed off for the night regardless of the fact he was sitting at one of the tables feeding his face with pasta, I threw the cash for what we had on the counter and left.

We were enticed in by the interesting menu, and like some of the other reviewers, then sat there for ages being unattended to. Eventually we had to practically trip up the waiter just to get him to stop and take a drinks order. We requested water also and it then took three more reminders to the waiter before he finally brought the water over.
The grilled chicken salad was pretty good - but it isn't exactly the most challenging of dishes to cook. However, the Four Cheese Penne was incredibly disappointing. We would have expected this dish to be rich and creamy, but instead it was very, very dry. We probably only ate about 1/3 of the dish it was so horrible. When the waiter asked how our meals were, we pointed to the leftovers and advised him that the pasta was horrible and dry. He was completely uninterested and brushed off the complaints. We asked that he advise the chef, but he mumbled something and then walked off, never to be seen again.
Summing up, a very bad experience and we certainly won't be returning, let-alone recommending this restaurant to anyone. Terrible service, bad food and an obvious disinclination to improve. Don't waste your money here.

One of the worst dining experiences ever. Service the worst ever. Staff all had attitude problems everything was too much trouble. Asked for lemon for the calamari twice then got given thinly sliced lemon that you would put in a drink impossible to squeeze. All the food no matter what you ordered was covered in Mixed herbs (packet stuff), Even the dips for bread n dips. Our waiter dropped 2 pieces of bread on the floor next to us didn't say a word and only replaced it once we asked. The table cloth on the table next to us was filthy and when people went to sit there the guy turned it over. No one come to ask you if you want a drink you have to chase them for everything, they served the wrong beer, even asking for cutlery got you a filthy look and merely a grunt. We waited for about 45 minutes for our table to be cleared, oh yep had to ask for that too. We explained our experience when paying... do you think they gave a damn.. nope. Never again. I would prefer to eat at Mc Donalds.

The mains here were absolutely TO DIE FOR! Could not fault them. Had amazing pork, paella, seafood platters, scallops etc. The drinks were super cheap too which was great for town. The service was a little average and they seemed a little understaffed but not too bad. The desserts were pretty bad though and expensive for the quality that they were. Overall though we were very impressed and had a great night. If you want amazing food, big portions and cheap drinks at the waterfront it's a great option. It has a beautiful aquarium too :)

Friends and i were looking for a place to eat out and fell across this place.
First i ordered soup of the day which was pumpkin soup with fresh bread OMG seriously the BEST pumpkin soup ever everything was perfect taste temperature and the bread so good.
For dinner i had lamb shanks again PERFECT meat fell off the bone perfection!
I went on Tuesday 19th,looking at the bottom of other peoples comments are not so good obviously different waiters and chefs on different days im going back again for sure bt will try again a Tuesday,my friends and i enjoyed the food and the service.

Worst customer service I have ever received!! Went to Neptune with a group of 5 (including relations here from the UK) after being convinced to enter by the lady out the front. After about 10 minutes of looking over the menu we had to ask one of the wait staff if we could order some drinks, I wish I had listened to my instincts and left then! We received our drinks and some bread as starters and waited for our mains, when they arrived they looked great but as we proceeded to eat one of the group discovered that their 300g steak was roughly 150g of pure gristle. After trying to catch the attention from the wait staff (as not one stopped to ask how the meals were) the Duty Manager finally approached us, we explained the issue to her and she promptly became defensive and said that you should expect that from a scotch fillet steak (WTF??) and there was no way that she would take it off the bill as it was half eaten, this argument went backwards and forwards for roughly 5 minutes! It shocked us no end that she was standing there arguing with us in front of the entire restaurant, and the conversation became quite heated as we explained that we wouldn’t be paying for that meal and her threatening to call the police if we left without paying for it. In the end we asked her to leave the table as we were sick of her disgusting attitude and requested our bill. On the arrival of the bill she had indeed removed the meal from the bill which we were surprised about. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone solely based on the service we received and the obvious attitude problem of the manager we dealt with. It also concerned me to see on dineout.co.nz that one of the staff has replied to a customers review in a very rude and derogatory manager, and another similar review to this one regarding drinks that was dated only 8 days ago… this place obviously has no regard for customer service and that really showed.

Out for a nice evening with good friends we were looking for a good atmosphere, service, food and drinks. Neptune's seemed inviting and the FOH person was pleasant and welcoming. We were seated and were promptly presented with the menus and then within 10 minutes we were asked for our orders. No drinks waiter approached us, I don't think there was one, but the food waitress took our drinks order. After our house wine, rum and coke, bourbon and coke and Long Island Ice Tea arrived it became immediately apparent that the drinks were an issue. All 3 drinks that required coke in them were flat in taste. I returned the bourbon immediately and requested another only to be told there was nothing wrong with my drink. I begged to differ and eventually received a 2nd drink which was exactly the same. The Long Island Tea was also returned with a request to not replace it but to have a house white instead. My friend also returned his rum only to be given the same excuse but his drink was reluctantly replaced. When the new rum arrived we discovered it was flat too. The waiter advised us we could either have diet coke or the same flat coke we had been served previously. WTF? It was refused and the bar lady displayed obvious displeasure at our returning the flat drinks so my friend then entered into animated discussion with the bar lady who showed no professional attitude at all and argued there was nothing wrong with the drinks. She was wrong! We thought about our dilemma and surmised that the spirits must have been watered down if it wasn't the coke that was the issue. The bar lady needs an attitude adjustment. You do not argue with patrons in the middle of a restaurant, period!
The sad thing was that the rest of the dining experience was great. The steaks (x2) and the schnapper dinner were fantastic and the seafood platter was also good value.
It was apparent that there weren't enough staff because it took an eternity to get some finished tables cleared away for new diners to use.
Despite the food being good we probably won't dine there again. Such a shame.

After the debacle at the restaurant I previously reveiwed, we were on the hunt for somewhere for a nice meal on New Years Eve. These guys were great. They were quick to organise a table for the four of us and made us feel very welcome. The food was fantastic! Very flavoursome and generous in portion size. The highlight would have to be the mussels we shared as an entree... I'd definitely recommend adding the chilli if you like your food with a little kick. Thanks for rescuing the evening!

I had dined at Neptune on several occasions and found the food to be good. The service varies especially when they are very busy and I agree that the food can take some time to arrive. However, I have organized a dinner once with approx 20 ppl and I must commend the maitre-d that nite for her quick wit, excellent customer service and courtesy. i have dined at better restaurants, but considering the price we paid, I must say that they are worth your time and money.
Zhe Min Shao
Very LONG wait time, what was more disturbing was that there was ONLY ONE person running the floor in terms of recording orders, manning the cash register/bar and delivering food to the tables, all the while making her way outside the cafe and trying to pull customers in. Some people started leaving as they waited 45+ minutes for food/drinks. The food wasn't half bad but just the wait time and the disorganisation was a major put-off.
Paul Butler
Pity these previous reviews are old, as the service my wife and I received recently was superb.
The maitre'd was wonderful - it was a quiet Easter Friday, and she was busy trying to drum up business on a rather wet day. And her methods worked! We had already chosen to eat there, but we watched as she got passing cyclists in out of the rain, offering hot towels to dry themselves as they got coffee and wait out the rain.
Our food was superb. My wife had the Eggs Benedict and I had my staple decadent feed of Bacon & Banana Pancakes with maple syrup. And they did not disappoint. The coffee was spot on and the service we received was friendly and fast. And the bill was very reasonable, given it was a stat holiday.
I have been back since for an evening meal and had the Cajun Chicken. It was beautifully cooked and seasoned perfectly, and was a very generous portion. Again, the service was great, the beers were cheap, and the overall bill was fine for a leisurely meal out. The next time I am in Auckland, I will be back there and will slowly work my way through the menu. Cheers

went for breakfast, empty restaurant, and food over 30 mins to arrive. Had a simple Bacon & Eggs, Eggs over cooked, french bread very hard, and bacon ok. Partners Pancakes were however nice, but considering price, service and food, was a very disappointing experience.

We ordered a pizza - which was okay but the place is very cold and customer service was okay. The place needed a clean, windows and sills were dirty. Sorry, but I wont be a returning customer.

My partner and I were in Auckland and wanted to have a nice reasonable priced meal. We ended up at Neptunes and I must say it was the worst dinning experience i have ever had. Apart from the poor service, we ordered a seafood platter for two (as advertised). It wasn't a platter for two. The mussels still had the beard in them, the prawns just looked wrong there was a watery mess on the plate and the list goes on. When i told the staff how dissatisfied i was i just got "oh" which i found to be extremely rude. They offered no explanation or compensation. I paid full price for a meal that was sub-standard. I will never be dinning there again.

If you're looking for a place with a fantastic view - head straight to the harbor area of Auckland. There's a wide variety of restaurants to choose from. We of course, tried picking the one with the best view. Neptune is a small cafe/restaurant along the waterside, with a decent amount of seating space both inside and outside. We were greeted very warmly by their staff and there was no fuss made about where we wanted to sit. The menu had a wide variety of options too -with mainly European & Mediterranean dishes I would say. We ordered their Beer Battered Fish & Chips, the Salmon Risotto and the Wood-fired Chicken Pizza. The service was a bit slow as we had to wait almost 20 minutes before our food arrived.
The fish & chips were a bit of a let down as the fish was way too oily and almost not edible after a while. The pizza was great with a good amount of toppings and good flavors. The winner hands down was the Risotto. Delicious and utterly flavorsome! The portions were way too big though I feel. The only thing we managed finishing completely was the pizza.
Overall;
Ambiance: 3.5/5
Food: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Value for money: 2.5/5

Don't think I'm coming back here for their mains. Maybe just for a light bite and the view.
