Review Chand Indian Restaurant - Auckland Central

We had the pani puri and tikka masala curry. Both were great, however two of the pani puris had already broken making it a bit difficult pouring the liquid into.

Beautiful butter paneer. Ordered a large, it’s enough for 3 people, great serving size. Naan breads were delicious. Also had their lamb mince & cheese naan, that will be my go to from now on, sooooo good! Thank you Chand Indian Restaurant. We’ll order again soon.

On an observed Christmas Eve evening, I visited here for dinner on recommendation. There is a wide range of traditional Indian dishes to choose from, and wines to follow. I was able to order their Vindaloo Lamb curry alongside freshly made garlic naan bread, and it did not disappoint. Although their Indian hot was not as hot as I was expecting, the staff were kind enough to let me know that you can further increase the spiciness as required if it is not enough. The lamb was soft and tender, while the curry was not too overwhelming and was perfect with naan and basmati rice. Their interior layout is noteworthy, with chairs that look like thrones and they even have wheels for easier maneuvering! I will be returning for more for sure, would absolutely recommend!

This is a great place for beautiful Indian food. My meal was great, service was good for a large group. Loved their serving dishes. I ordered the Balti Chutney Chicken which was my first time that I have eaten thus particular dish.....it was divine......my new favorite Indian dish.

Supreme Indian food. Quality to the last. Nice service. I asked for their best Chicken dish they delivered. Miles ahead of places like Bollywood. Very Authentic. Do it tasty as ....
Olga Ozdemir
It is the best place where you can have Indian meals in Auckland. Their garlic and cheese naan is a super star. Thanks!

Awesome food in a traditional style Indian restaurant. Service was exceptional although it was particularly quiet for a Saturday. Food was cooked well and not over spiced. Definitely will be back.

First time in this restaurant, food was incredibly delicious, staff are so friendly and always checking if everything is ok or if we want something else. Tables around always clean, and something cool the chairs very fancy also has wheels.. Just a suggest.. Should be nice if the illumination was brighter and also do more attractive to call customer since the main door because looks boring without grace, make feel to the customer we are coming to a little place of India.

Overall the food was great. The butter chicken was nice and creamy but also had flavour. The naan bread was soft and was layered and very filling. The price was lower than others also. Overall an awesome experience and if you are looking for a solid butter chicken, would recommend.

Delicious, well made food and there's a huge menu! Lots of vegetarian options, nice decor and it's well priced. Could be slightly spicier.

The food was so delicious, and excellent service, will definitely go back

Amazing food and great service. The food never fails to impress especially the cheese and spinach naan it is my favorite. Overall 10/10 experience!!

My favourite spot for Butter Chicken (worthy of the 25minute drive I convinced my boyfriend to make tonight to get it). This is a more “western” style of butter chicken which would be sure to please anyone looking for some Western-Indian food.

Ordering via their website was super quick and easy which is always a bonus. They also do free delivery if you spend a certain amount which is absolutely stellar.
Let’s start this post by advising you that this might not be how they usually make their curries as this is more of a private party rather than what’s ordered on the menu, and was advised that they adjusted the spice to cater for us. We were invited on this gathering last December and this is the first time I will be having Indian cuisine for such a gathering so I don’t know what to expect as I am still new on this cuisine.
Great food and prices, waitress attentive and pleasant, not a busy night restaurant half empty. Pity we were not escorted to our table, just told to go sit at table number.

Alright Zomato friends, I’m in Indian food mode so hopefully I can provide some helpful comparison reviews over the next couple of weeks. Sometimes when I’m in the mood for something it takes a few meals to shake it off - much to the annoyance of family and friends but hopefully good news for you.

I’ve had takeout from Chand before thanks to the positive reviews on Zomato. It was very good but unfortunately didn’t blow me away like the reviews seemed to suggest. That time it was butter chicken and something else - possibly a lamb do piaza with naan. The succulent and moist chicken I was promised was not there, and it was only a little bit better than the huge but dry chunks of chicken (speaking of, how does one get such dry meat when it’s 1. simmered I’m so much sauce and 2. the pieces are cut in big chunks?)

But unless something is inedible or the service atrocious, I believe in second chances (or the likelihood that I may get a different chef). So this time we dined in.

Before I get to the food, can I just say how brilliant it is that they’ve attached wheels to their chairs? Every single one. They have these big extravagant chairs and instead of forcing people to push back on them against the floor, they just attached the same wheels that office chairs have. They’re hardly noticeable with the rest of the chair’s decor and don’t even freely roll around. Small detail but so brilliant.

We ordered butter chicken and mango chicken and both were well presented and high quality. None of this watery curry mess you get from takeaway curries. We did order medium heat but didn’t really detect any. Perhaps the faintest trace in the mango chicken but it was so sweet and rich that it probably masked the heat. And that’s what we both agreed on - you definitely couldn’t eat the whole thing alone. Too creamy, rich, and sweet. Mango chicken IS supposed to be sweeter but the richness combined was a bit too much. Didn’t help that our other curry was creamy too but both being butter chicken fans we couldn’t give it up. My suggestion would be that if you love mango chicken, maybe order a non-cream based curry as your other alternative.

The butter chicken was great this time around. Thank goodness for second chances. The chicken was not dry at all. The curry wasn’t tangy like some restaurant butter chicken can be. Not overly sweet like the food court kind either. No complaints here overall.

The garlic naan was my favorite. I am personally not a fan of thick and bread naan. This naan was thin in a good way - not crispy but not spongey either.

All in all, left very happy with our meal. Will definitely be back...but may skip the mango chicken next time.
Every time we are in Auckland we visit Chand either to dine in or takeout, we always receive excellent service , the food is of a very high quality and is excellent value , this restaurant is 10/10 .
Claudia Le Sueur-Knight
Fantastic customer service, very greeting on the phone which makes it so much easier and meal is ready in 10-15 minutes. Absolutely great will definitely come here again

best indian in the shore.. went with the group of people for birthday party...food was delicious. staff was very helpful and friendly. food came on time. we really like the decor , is really elegant and traditional. gonna come back for sure.

Visited Chand yesterday. The ambience was nice and the staff were friendly.
We had a harra barra veg kebab - was a bit hard, could have been a trifle soft. Taste was nice and the presentation good. For the mains, we had a garlic naan, a butter naan, paneer tikka masala (medium spicy) and of course, an onion salad made with a sprinkling of coriander with a dash of lime and the statutory lime pieces. Rice was as well provided as part of the mains.
The naans were quite good and the paneer masala was nice and tasty. Overall, a good experience.

Chands is one my fave regular spots. The food and staff are always lovely. I'm slowly working my way through the menu and it's all been great.
I've been here more times than I can count and I'm yet to be disappointed!
JPK
Tried home delivery of food.
never got chance to dine in.
maybe try and decide your own experience.
good luck 👍 do share your experience if its different.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant and we come for a meal at least once a month, if not twice! The food is exceptionally tasty! My favourites are the mango chicken & butter chicken with medium spice. I have also had a lamb rogan josh before which was very authentically made. They also make the best naan bread here, thick and hot. The restaurant is gorgeous with the furniture, lighting and decor - Very comfortable to eat in too!
Taylor Archer
Chanda is always delicious! Very accommodating to make dishes vegan. Chana Masala and Dahl are my favourites. Highly recommend. One of the best Indian in Auckland.
Jordan Watt
If I could rate lower than 1 I would. The service is slack and horrible and very very unorganised. We waited over an hour for our mains to come and that includes us standing up after 45min and asking it for takeaway instead. We were told multiple times ‘they are just plating up’ 20 minutes later still no food. Would not recommend coming here at all. Just get a takeaway, but who knows even that might take an hour so better just to stay away.
Aaron Lawrie
Sat in and got drinks and samosas in good time, waited a good 45 minutes after samosas were taken away to still have no food, asked for takeaway to still have a 5 minute plus wait.
Brooke
Chand has always been a classic that I've returned to countless times over the years. They always provide awesome service with amazing food and at reasonable prices, which is always a bonus! I like that their menu is very extensive, and that you can go there for a fancy night out or for a casual dinner with friends.
Jess
Great local Indian restaurant. I love their butter chicken and mango chicken. I have majority good experiences each time I've had takeaways here. Restaurant food is also great too and generous servings... plus they do a mean cheese naane
Nashi Dasgupta
Had a craving for Naan or Paratha. We had done a takeaway...We ordered Paneer Naan and Aloo Paratha. Have to admit that I have never had such an amazing Paneer Naan in Auckland. So light, soft and balanced with herbs. Usually I have experienced in Auckland very spicy stuffed Naan which spoil the taste, Chand restaurant's paneer naan was very tasty! Aloo paratha was also nice and the aroma reminded me of India. Their interior was also very pretty. Will definitely recommend.

One of the best restaurant in North shore.
*Delicious food
*Reasonable prices
*Excellent Service
*Friendly Staff
I Can't ask more than that.....A++
Chris Sutcliffe
Extensive menu, good value and very flavorsome.
Have enjoyed in restaurant and delivered at takeaways.
One of the best Indian restaurants on the North Shore at the moment.
Brainless Foodie
Surely the best indian food on the north shore! Amazing service, very wide selection of dishes, great decor.. what more could you ask for? The dishes are very generous and prices are reasonable! They also have a kids friendly mild menu :-) I don't know how I didn't find about this place before!
Jessica
I always get the best service when I come here and even when they are busy the food still comes out in a fast time manner. I'm not into spicy food so I always get the good old butter chicken. But it's hands down the best butter chicken I've tried. I get butter naan and a mango juice and it's a winner dinner for me! Favourite Indian restaurant by far.
Alana Geach
You won't beat a curry from The Chand, they make the best butter chicken! Their naan bread is soft and fresh unlike some places that do burnt, thin, crispy naan. You also have to try their mango lassi in either cocktail or mocktail form! The only thing letting this place down is the over the top interior and the chairs on wheels that have a mind of their own. Tables are also a bit crammed which makes it hard to get out of your seat if there is someone sitting behind you. Definitely recommend a visit if you are after a delicious curry! Sorry I forgot to take a photo before I dished up.
Peter Gould
Been several times always disappointed with the lack of hot went two weeks ago asked for very hot (Indian hot) was so mild my son who doesn't like spicy could eat it have decided never again and their Monday to Wednesday price has gone up too. Such small servings too
Justin Gauci
All three of us had great curries. Great customer service all the wait staff were really helpful. Set out real nice. Kadhi was amazing!! 👍🏾
FoodieOodie95
■ Best butter chicken
■ Open and spacious
■ Well priced

Its always a little tricky to find the right indian restaurants that still taste aunthentic but Chand goes all out! The presentation of the place is a little tacky and a bit too much but their dishes are delicious! The herbs and spices all work together so well and if you pair the Cheese & Garlic naan with the Butter Chicken = DAMMN. I also like how its fancy enough for a casual date but also mellow enough for a chilled night out with the family!
Fiona Methven
Great food, great service. Second to none. Always a cheerful greeting. Always good food. My favourite restaurant on the shore. Does a takeaway as well, so when I'm busy or lazy I phone in my order and pick up in ten minutes
Samantha Grace
Hands down the best Indian I have ever had, regular customer I just keep going back and back. With my parents, my Aunty, my girlfriends whenever I wanna go out for a decent meal that I know is always going be so good this is the place I go! Love it!
Foodie Chronicles
Chands is an all-time family favourite. The service is always great and meals are consistently delicious. Good value for money too! Would definitely recommend!
Chelsea Sellwood
The best vege korma I have ever had! Lots of flavour in the dish, accompanied by a good amount of rice. Great vegetarian options which I love with amazing service. 10/10 recommend :)
Raspberry Beret
Went on a Wednesday evening which is one of the cheap and cheerful nights. It was packed which is not surprising as the food is very good and price obviously a steal on the night. But to wait over an hour for the main course to be served.... Hmmmm. With plenty of other dining choices around I probably won't rush back...
Thegreeats
Fab Indian food!
Interior was maybe overdone but fantastic food
We ordered the chicken korma and butter chicken
Hearty portions and their plain naan was so delicious !
Bf got the cheese garlic naan and it was salty and flavoursome enough to eat alone
Mains are $16 excluding the naan and felt it wasn't cheap but still enjoyed our meals.
Food also came quickly which was a bonus
Was even busy for a Monday
They do $10 mains on mon-wed and we will definitely come back for those !!

Indian Food is among the best in the world and their culture is second to none, I love the values of the people and the culture of India and it would be nice if the rest of the world followed in India's Footsteps. Although this is my first Zomato review of Indian style food it most definitely is not the first time I have indulged in a fine curry. Chand is extremely well presented from the food to the wait staff, I have dined here many of times and it does not matter whether it is eat in or takeaway the service and food is always beyond 5 star quality. Highly recommended and to be honest I can not wait to travel to India to experience more of India's culture their food and the fine people that make up such a great country!!!

This place is incredible! Don't be put off by the glitzy chairs on wheels. Food is absolutely incredible and for vegetarians they can fry things separately from meat. Huge list of vegetarian options. I wish I lived closer! This definitely makes the list of the top Indian in Auckland.
Anton Pienaar
Very dissatisfied with the quality of the take away. First and last time we will go there. Lamb Korma only had 8 small pieces of meat. Butter chicken sauce was weak.
Rustica Lamb
This is our 3rd average experience, disinterested staff and tonight curries with bottle tasting, over sweet sauce. And ugly kids choices, no healthy choices
Jessica Teasdale
Chand is hands down the BEST Indian I have ever had!!! Me and my family have been here many many times because we know the food is always SO good! We've tried a lot of Indian places and found most of them lacked flavour or weren't very authentic, but when we tried Chand we knew this would become a regular!

Service is friendly, but can be a bit slow on busier nights. Would never deter me from coming back though. Definitely recommend!!
Austin Ibarra
This was an extremely good restaurant. The atmosphere was very great, with good decoration and feels like an Indian restaurant. I had a Chicken Pakora, Chicken Tikka Masala, and a Mango Kulfy. All were made to great standards. Also, despite the waitress telling us that they had 50 orders in the hour we were eating here, the meals and entrees came out promptly. Would recommend this restaurant to all!

“Best Chicken Biryani! ”We order from here often and have also visited many a times. Its a gem of restaurant food always has been divine. Love the Chicken Biryani as probably the best we have ever eaten. Delicious curries and starters with such soft and fresh naans totally mouth watering. it has one of the biggest variety of food menu in entire auckland . its always a wonderful experience dine-in with Chand with authentic dine in environment and friendly great service with such great prices its strongly recommended.
Firdose Rizvi
I heard so many good reviews about this place, it was such a disappointing experience. From a Indian foodie's perspective, the so called "authentic Indian cuisine" is a sham. The dishes are not authentic and any Indian will be able to tell you that. I ordered the chicken biryani, which turned out to be Orange colored chicken pulao. There is a whole lot of difference between the two, which the staff members stalled by saying its adapted to suit the local tastes. The dish did not taste restaurant like in anyway, I frankly could have done a better job at home. The chef can certainly take a tip or two from Raviz, their dishes are totally worth every penny and authentic the way Indian cuisines are supposed to be.
I will not go back to Chand and certainly not recommend this place to anyone else unless you fancy having the chef's individual version of Indian food in disguise.
Jaki Dwight
The food - delicious. The service - fabulous. The atmosphere - lively, warm and inviting. Definitely will be visiting here again and again.
Kieran
Food wasn't great, can almost suspiciously quick! But not bad price I suppose. A lot of staff hanging around trying to look busy for such an empty restaurant. Byriani was very bland. Service was great and staff friendly :)
Raffi
Very authentic and well presented restaurant. Plentiful meals at such a great price and with a very extensive menu which was great to see. Entrees ordered were very delicious and consisted of sausage, chicken, samosa and more. You won't leave feeling hungry for sure. Very delicious meal and a great night out. Chairs are an added bonus too, but restaurant can be squished at times if others want to get by. Will be back again.

My partner and I were frequent diners at Chands when we lived on the Shore. Really miss this place. They have great customer service, good size portions and the meals were great. They have a great variety of Indian cusine in the menu, so try them all. Can cater to all foodies as the have seafood, meats and vegetarian options. Takeaways are good as well. Reasonably priced and the best curries in the Shore!
Darina Chadelova
i wanted to have dinner at home, so I asked my husband to pick up some Indian food at the way home. Found this restaurant in the Offerbook app, as it was on his way. We had the mushrooms with beef and the vegetarian samosa, and the sauce was the same in the two dishes, and it smelt little bit weird, like old food. I didn't like it, the mushrooms and the peas were good. I am not sure if they gave us old food for the takeaway or something, but maybe I will not eat here again!
Seth James
Its the best.
Its always been the best
I've been going every monday for the last 2 years and it makes every other indian place taste gross.
But you have to remember some of the staff can't speak english over the phone very well and they dont tell you that its not $10 on a public holiday so just keep that in mind. Otherwise its the best, better than torbay branch aswell.
Caztrader
For all curry lovers this is a must.. food excellent staff terrific atmosphere and layout of the resturant outstanding ..an experience that you should not miss.
Trin
This is the best Indian restaurant in Auckland! Me and my partner are a bit of a foodie and we go out dining a lot. We have been to many different Indian restaurants and we have finally found the best one in Auckland!

Excellent service and food. Their cottage cheese naan bread is definitely my favorite! I love how they have special naan bread where they put different fillings in. No other Indian restaurants have this in their menu.
Ross Timmins
Great flavour, service and atmosphere. Enjoyed my meal although I found the spice levels very inconsistent. If u like hot, order extra hot!
Neil Beattie
We live just a few minutes away from Chand and every few weeks pop in for a meal. We also often meet friends there. The prices are excellent, service is friendly and food is great.

Having tried a few restaurants, this is one of the few that has consistently stayed good. I'm not saying it is the best Indian food that I've ever had, but it is reliable place for a good quality value for money feed.
Mallory Schoonebeek
The best restaurant ever!!! 5 stars isn't even enough! If I could choose a hundred I would!!!

Chand has been mine and my fiance's favorite restaurant for over 6 years. We go there regularly and after going countless times (probably close to a hundred times by now, we've lost count!!) we have never had anything to complain about and anything less than the best experience! Whenever we feel like a date night we always go to Chand! The waiters are so friendly and well mannered and will serve you asap, even on a Friday or Saturday when the place is packed full with diners. The decor is very beautiful, and their chairs are the most comfortable and cool things ever! There is a lot of traditional Indian art, and the atmosphere is warm and cosy.
The food is always served quick and hot! There are generous portions (one main could easily feed two) and the food is delicious!! My absolute favorite meal of all time is Chand's Malai Kofta. I have tried other restaurants versions but nothing measures up to Chand! The cheese and garlic naan is a must- heaps of fresh garlic in really soft puffy naan and cheese that you can see as you tear your naan apart. Mains are always served with complimentary poppadoms (I have never received anything for free elsewhere) and the food is well priced! My fiancée and I are both students and have got 2 mains, 2 drinks, 2 cheese and garlic naans for under $50. We've tried the mango kulfi once ( we never make it to dessert because we're so full from our mains) and it is delicious!!! Their mango lassis and dom pedros are also really good too!

Chand Restaurant really is amazing. You get so much more than what you pay for. Delicious, hot and huge sized meals, a comfy warm atmosphere, excellent service, a nice comfy chair to sit in, and all for such a low price. I will always consider Chand the best, and will keep on returning! (my fiancee and I have even said we should have our wedding reception at Chand or get them to do our catering!!!)
Alfred Weinmeyer
We have had dinner multiple times over the last 3-4 years. The food is always exactly same, never varies, i.e. always really delicious and the service always good. We recommend Chand Indian Restaurant very highly.
Michael Guy
Having been a professional restaurant reviewer for more than 25 years, I've only walked out of one restaurant for appalling service. Tonight was the second time. We arrived 7pm and by 7.20 noone had approached us for drinks or an order. Minutes later our drinks and food order was taken, one of our drinks appearing and the others forgotten. I finally went to the bar and asked where they were. Five minutes later they arrived, the wine a Montana Chardonnay in the mini bottle ordered from a dreadful and pedestrian choice of wines.
At 7.35 our mixed entree, with only the samosa tasting resonably freshly made, arrived. Once consumed our plates sat in front of us for 15 minutes until the waiter cleared the table and asked if we were ready for our mains. Half an hour later they hadn't arrived, nor had anyone to ask if we would perhaps like another drink.
8.20 I went back to the bar/service area and said we had to leave by 8.30 as one of the family had to go to work. "They're coming now they said," but by 8.30am they still hadn't arrived. In the end I complained about the appalling service - three waiters for probably 100 or so diners, and we asked that they be put in takeaway containers, and paying the $73 we walked out without an apology or even an acknowledgement from any staff member, who obviously didn't give a damn.
Actually our takeaway food was reasonable though very pedestrian, but I'd truly rate Chand as operating out of its depth. I could forgive the plastic chandeliers and the faux decor, but the service here is unforgiveable.
Joanne Sharp
My husband and i went to Chand Restaurant 2 weeks ago and so impressed we went again last Sunday and took the remaining 4 members of our family. Service outstanding and food outstanding, we had 6 dishes and shared them between the 6 of us ... awesome, cannot wait to go back... this was recommended by friends and the first time we have ever dined at an Indian restaurant, love it ...

We were amazed at the prices when we visited Chand last week! Entrees & curries are very reasonably priced compared to other Indian restaurants on the shore. Chicken tikka for starters was delicious - highly recommend. Partner said butter chicken was very good, however I had a Chicken Jalfrezi which I thought was quite average and very salty. It was incredibly busy for a Tuesday night, which must be a sign of how popular Chand is!! We will definitely be returning, however I will be ordering something different next time!
Servantie
Went to the Chand Restaurant in Rothesay Bay for the very first time on 8th October - I could not fault the food or service in any way. I had the most amazing Chicken Tikka served with salad and husband had a Prawn dish. Service was fantastic as were meal portions.

Would definitely return even though we live in Browns Bay and have 2 other Indian restaurants in Browns Bay to choose from - a great night had by all.

Thanks Chand.
Jane Shaw
Incredible food! Generous portions; not just a few pieces of meat swimming in sauce. The spinach and cheese naan is to die for! It was recommended by the friendly waiter as his favorite and I will order that every time now. Great value for money. Everyone can afford to treat themselves to a night out at their prices. I have been twice in a week and am hankering for more!
Jeanine Oxenius
We moved away from Torbay for 6 years and the first place we visited when coming back was our beloved Chand Restaurant.
The best Indian in the country and very reasonable too. We can't praise them enough!!!!! We have been dining here for at leased 15 years now and the quality of the food has never failed to amaze us.
Mark
Great staff, good food, shame the floor manager/ owner? is so lazy, they where short staffed only two guys on the floor, they where running around like mad men!!!! He was just standing behind the till waiting to cash in..... took the waiters 40 minutes to get to our table, only took 20 min to get our food, still 1 hour all together!!!Shame..... hope to get a better result next time
Rachel Schuurman
We were so impressed with Chand. Firstly, we couldn't get over how cheap the prices were! Amazing. Food as well as drinks. Everything was great portions too and very yummy. Very friendly staff and nice setting. Could see why it was totally packed!
James
Chand is a nice restaurant that generally does quite a good curry for a reasonable price, when they get it right. The staff are always pleasant which is good and the food does taste nice.

My only problem with Chand over other Indian Restaurants on the Shore is I always have a bad stomach after eating here, which is odd as I can eat very spicy food from other places and be totally fine.

Their vegetarian curries are delicious and many of my friends that go there buy the vege curries as they are nicer than the meat ones.
Nitin Suri
Worst restaurant.Drove all the way from manukau after making a booking to be told no table is free. The owner made us wait for 40 minutes and when we advised him to cancel our booking not even said sorry and has a as if I care attitude!Would have given 0 if there was one in the rating!
Rebecca Heap
This is a great restaurant - they know how to make a good curry in mild medium or hot. The servings are generous and very reasonable, and the staff are always warm and friendly.
Felix
I have been visiting the Torbay Chand Indian Restaurant only for take aways in the past. Probably the worst Indian I have ever had. The curry past seem to come from factory production. The food standard is less than shopping mall indian food outlet.
Janine Raine
We had an amazing evening at Chand last week. The prawn jalfrezie is the best I have tasted. Great place for a group booking. The service is quick and friendly. My partner had the lamb vindaloo which was a hit for him but way too spicy for me! The rest of our party loved their meals too.
Lisa
Have been here a couple of times and found the food to be ok, not the best I have tasted though. Service excellent however.
Jane
great food although sometimes the service is not that great when they are busy, but that shouldnt be an excuse as the meals are not for free, we go back time after time because the food is so good but please busy or not the service should be the same.
Ant L.
Delicious butter chicken, and im told the other dishes are just as good, I wouldnt know, I cant get enough of the butter chicken!
Liz Leach
For an excellent curry you would be hard pressed to find another Indian restaurant to equal Chands. The prices are so reasonable, which makes it easier to go more often!
Expertly managed and the waiters always have a smile - unlike many other restaurants. So congratulations to all of you at Chands !!
Yello
A great local that we keep on returning to! The food is excellent - always delicious and generous servings to fill up the hungriest diner. The prices are reasonable. They have gone up a bit ($9 mains to $13 mains) in a couple of years but this is to be expected. Even though that the vegetarian dishes are the same price as all the meat dishes including seafood, I find a bit strange. They used to be at least $1 cheaper.
The service is also very g good. A great improvement from when they had the 15 year old school girls working here doing the waitressing - they forgot orders, meals often coming 10minutes after the rest of the table had finished eating, were rude and disinterested and and once spilled a whole dish of butter chicken into a friends handbag! The waiting staff now are attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and food and up for a joke.
The manager, as well as some of the staff, know the regulars by name and always asks what we and the family are up to.
They are prepared to go the extra mile - on one occasion a toddler was sick over his dad as well as the table and restaurant. They were there to help out immediately, clean up and even packed up all our food to take home - no funny, disgusted or annoyed looks or comments - which granted the circumstances, I myself would have found hard to hide.
The only complaint would be that on last months visit I was informed that the waiter could not explain what ingredients were in 2 of the cocktails on their menu as he was too busy! I was a little speechless and ordered a vodka orange instead to which he replied he would only be able to deliver this if it died down a bit and he had time - which was a little weird. I thought I was there to receive food , drink and service and in return leave my hard earned cash. In the end I did get my drink. I guess everyone has their off days?!
We will still defiantly be back as it is a value for money delicious and fun experience.
Tina
After going to this restaurant once and seeing how busy it was, and how good the food was we decided second time round to book in advance. However on arrival on time, the booking had not been written in the book and staff didn't really seem to care, after extreme embarrassment as we had taken friends there and an hour waiting without an eta on a table we left. And went to another Indian restaurant that was happy to take us! Unfortunate really as the food was so good.
Grahame And Hilary
These folks deserve a medal - they are the best! A group of us go at least once a month and we have never been disappointed in the cuisine, service or their prices. Well done to Chand Torbay.
Sean Peters
This is by far the best Indian restaurant we have been to in New Zealand, and we have been to many from Auckland to Queenstown. The prices are excellent, the service fantastic and the food absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!
Bob Cat

Very high standard of Indian Cuisine on the shore! I only found out about this place a month ago and I've been twice since then. It's seriously a great place to head for a quick meal or dinner with a group of friends. Their food is amazing and just so much flavour. Very different to that of those chain Indian restaurants that you see around. Although the décor is a bit full on, the service and food really make up for it. It's really off the beaten track but a total gem on the North Shore. They do $10 mains Mon-Wed. Totally worth it! Drink prices are about average! No complaints there. If you haven't been, be sure to go check it out!
