Review Krung Thep Thai Street Food - Auckland Central

Azrul Hizam
Food is good, dined in for dinner and we ordered pad thai and a fried rice. Portions are generous, if you sit indoors the ventilation is poor so can be a bit stuffy. Staff were friendly and food was served promptly.

Stopped by fairly late at night (almost 10pm) for dinner. It wasn't too busy which made it easy for us to get a table. The narrow entrance is lined with menu and pictures of the food they serve. They have quite a variety of things on offer and the ability to choose the meat on the dishes. I had the pad thai prawn. It smelt amazing and the taste wasn't too bad. It would have been perfect if the flavour of the sauce was stronger. Good texture on the noodles. They had standard condiments on the table like chilli, sugar and salt. Nice food and nice service even in the late of night,
Alantis
Their Curry puffs are the best i've ever had, They're flaky and soft yet have a bit of a crunch to it and the filling is just beautiful. Also had the Garlic & pepper Fried tofu dish and it's very yom. Definitely recommend 👍

The food was fast to come out and really tasty. We had the red chicken curry, chicken stirfry, pork belly, spring rolls and chicken satay. Service was awesome. Will be back again for sure!
Stuart Gow
Loved it. Unassuming doesn't and limited menu but don't be discouraged. Authentic flavours and textures on all our dishes. Not too spicy either
Dana Young
Been trying to find a good Thai place in town, and this made it to my list. Only ordered the tofu pad Thai but that itself was delicious. I have yet to try the other foods on the menu. Fair price and friendly service.
Leigh Mitchell
Multiple Uber eats orders now. Gyoza are addictive, best beef penang I've had. Yellow curry could do with more spice but still a tonne of flavor. Highly recommend the cashew pork noodles Rice is always fluffy too
Evgeny K
Very nice little street food cafe. K'rd style. Food is very good priced and suprisengly delicious. They serve precooked meals, but quality is high! I would recommend to try at least once.
Pat Satji
If you're around K road, this is the spot for Thai food honestly. Cheap, authentic and affordable. The massamun curry and any dish with pork belly is legit.
Francesca Waskul
My prawn pad Thai was great, but the tamarind sauce noodles my friend got were not so amazing! Still nice place tho!
Atlantah
I love the pineapple fried rice! Comes with crispy shallots.

Great tasty food for great price. Our new best Thai food restaurant
Pat Quaid
Consistently good food. Service is friendly and fast. Absolutely recommend.
Mike Gursky
Really good thai food, good menu and large portions for good prices. I had pad thai which was really good. Clean place and friendly staff without much of a wait

It's a Friday night. The week is over and you're feening for a BYO. You just cannot go wrong with Krung. The crispy pork belly was super tasty and the mixed entrees always go down a treat. Staff were super friendly and prompt even with our table of 10.

Came here for a late lunch, wasn’t busy at all. No one was there. We ordered Beef Nam Tok, golden noodles and a mix of appetisers. All were really good. Very yummy. Service was fast as well. Would’ve loved for my beef to be more spicy though, it was indicated to be spicy in the menu but I had to add chilli flakes but even then it wasn’t spicy enough.

I try to like this place as it’s my local, but I don’t seem to be able to get anything that’s a decent portion of food for the price and the flavour is quite average. There is no comparison when you go to the excellent Thai in the food court on Elliot street - and which ironically is in a higher cost part of town. I had takeaway, maybe it’s better dine in.
Persian Foodie
Had vegetable spring rolls and pad see ew! Really tasty, soft, saucy noodles with generous pieces of meat. Cool ambience with Thai paintings and decor! Decent prices too
Stacey
I love a cheeky Tofu Pad Thai and Krung Thep is my fave place to go whenever I’m craving! Perfect every time, not too saucy or too dry and the noodles still have a bit of bite to them compared to other places where they’re mushy. So good!!
RL.P
Prawn pad Thai was delicious. Not too oily & not too dry. The prawn to noodle ratio was balanced too unlike other Thai restaurants I’ve been to. The lemon was fresh. Overall, a well seasoned dish.

Great atmosphere and amazing food!! Food was fast as yummy as expected. Best thai food in auckland and such a fun and friendly vibe. Staff are lovely and efficient. Loved eating on Karangahape road aswell!
Arianaaa
cheapest and yummiest Thai food!! As authentic as you can get Thai food in Auckland! ☺️
In pic: Pad See Ew and Massaman Curry and mini platter
Vivek
Absolutely delicious food with lots of variety in meat , veges, soups and rice. The restaurant has small seating space but the way seats are placed is quite tactical . Prices are reasonable and taste is quite close to what you get back in Thailand. We were served within 10 minutes despite houseful and afew takeaway people waiting there. Smiling staff were good in advising the food as well.

Well done and you deserve this rating .

Ordered Garlic Pepper chicken and Beef Massaman curry, via Menulog.

Food was prepped and ready for pickup within 15 mins,
where it unfortunately languished for another 15 mins before Menulog driver picked it up.

Both dishes were delicious - flavoursome, properly cooked.
Big beefy chunks were served with the curry which is how it is meant to be.

Looking forward to trying other dishes.

A+

This is our first time trying out at this place and location. Have been to the other location and food was amazing so wanted to try out this place when we were in the area. Have nothing much to complain about. Everything was nice and a lot of food for the price. But felt that the food tasted little better from the other location compared to this. Of course different chefs but other then that. Service food, quantity everything was great and definitely will go back.
Claudynnlee53
The food is delicious and offers great value for your money. Although this could be better with a little more rice with the dishes. The service is quick and the staff are nice.

Ok, this is a tough one to write because their food is actually really nice and the chefs there do an amazing job! And I really enjoy my meals there. The staff working there have always been so friendly. However, this particular time I went a young guy was working there and he was pretty rude and sassy. 5 stars for food.. 0 stars for service and 0 for communication.

First time here tonight.. very pleasantly surprised.. perfect amount of heat in the green curry.. very good prices.. will definitely recommend to others
Visited a few times now with my partner and we always walk away very satisfied. The $18 special is highly recommended as it is very tasty and filling - great value for money. On top of that the staff have always been friendly, cheerful and helpful. I will definitely continue to visit!

Love this place, always my go to Thai when in the city. Food it always quality, tastes amazing. Portion sizes really good and the price is amazing. Staff is great too. A lot of Vegan options 🌱 always has a lot of veges and tasty tofu. Highly recommend :)

The food is very tasty. Roti Bread is delicious!!!!
The other dishes sounded good to me as well. Now we have a great place to eat Thai Food.
We'll be back soon! Thank you!
Danny
Fantastic place for some cheap, tasty Thai food. The place is quite modest and unassuming but they have some of the fastest service in town. I got the $18 meal deal which is one main, with 2 chicken satay skewers and 2 pieces of any other appetiser of choice. I got the massaman curry which was fragrant and delicious but perhaps not as authentic as I expected. The satay and curry puffs were also excellent.

Don't let the looks fool you when you enter this restaurant.
Very friendly personnel and have the best Thai food in all of Auckland.
And don't forget how affordable it is.

Found this Thai gem near work at lunch today! I bought a red curry stir fried beef and vegetables rice for only $12. It was super delicious and full of flavour. Although it's quite packed at lunch, our food came out fairly quickly, making Krung Thep an ideal place to grab lunch during break.
Tiana
One of the best Thai places and so cheap! I ordered the spring rolls and the pad Thai. The pad Thai was so yum and filling and the spring rolls were also delicious and I’m fussy with spring rolls.
Rulehollows
Very cheap and good quality! Got a $13 Drunken noodle and it was probably the best Iv'e had! Was expecting it to be bad due to the price, however I was quite wrong.
Utkarsh Vora
Their mains were amazingly flavoured with staff friendly and at a very reasonable price. The sides were not as good but would definitely go again just for the massaman veg tofu curry!
Quinn Mai
Small place with nice decor. Great food portion. We order pad thai which is really nice. Friendly staff. Reasonable price. Definitely will come back for more.
Coffeekate201607
We went there for dinner but with very poor waitress service plus a misleading special menu 18 ppl meal ending up over 93 ! For 4 ppl What a cheat cheap eat place.

Just to give anyone who may be want to try our food but not too sure or familiar with Thai food so I picked the most popular and they are my favourite dishes from my own kitchen:-) let’s see what you think and tank you for your visiting us. Hopefully you will find one or more to be your favourite to come back to us, see you 😍
James
Good value for money getting the $18 dollar combo. Full of flavour and perfect portion sizes. Quick service too. A few of the dishes on the menu I've never heard of before, and the menu doesn't explain what they are.
Jade H
Delicious food as always. Staff are always super friendly. Once when we placed a particularly large order a dish was accidentally missed but was resolved quickly and food was super tasty.
Yorgen
Awesome place, we shared the massaman curry, chicken satay and curry puffs and they were all fantastic! Menu is super simple to understand and the staff is just lovely. We're definetely coming back again.
Sam Bhandari
Fast efficient service. Had the red duck curry was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. Friendly staff and really good prices. Open till late is an added bonus.

Don't you get disappointed when you're hankering for a bowl of hot, sour and spicy tom yum soup only to be served bland-tasting tepid soup ... devoid of spices? Not even a few strips of chilli or lemongrass or ginger whatsoever... Where's the zing? Where's the oomph?

I feel this place has let its native country down. I knew something was up when my order arrived much quicker than expected. ...only to have my suspicions confirmed when the soup tasted like someone mixed a can of wattie's ketchup with luke warm water, and chucked in a barrel of ajinomoto hoping it would fool our tastebuds (because it made me THIRSTY AF after. I was craving for a bottle of ice cold beer at friggin 11pm+. Like, who gets that way? !).

Sure, while the dishes thrive on being reasonably priced and speedily prepared - it has sacrificed taste and authenticity in the process. So your call. In my opinion thai street food can be cheap, quick AND tasty (emphasis on the TASTE bit).

We also ordered the fish cakes (average tasting), chicken satay (forgettable) and some starchy flat rice noodles dish (passable). But to me, a good bowl of tom yum soup is the litmus test for any thai food establishment.

On the plus side, service was hard to fault. That is all.

Great place to be for lunch or for a Dinner, food is good , service is good . We went for lunch and place was not that busy but our food was ready for on time ..well it got busy soon. Not in the menu but we had Chu Chu chicken hope I am right and was not bad at all.
Will definitely go back
Debin Sabu
I had there red curry with jasmine rice. The curry was not authentic. When I placed my order for the curry I was asked what meat but not the spicy level of the food.
I did get my food in 10 minutes. The place is small but it's cute. There could be 10 to 12 tables or even less does gives an indoor street food experience.
I would go one more time try something different

Late night dinner with friends a week ago. Foods are awesome and with reasonable price. Specially liked their massaman curry, vege rolls and chicken bbq. Service needs to improve though.
Ida
Great value for food - I've tried the veg pad thai, cashew nut stir fry and spring rolls. Can vouch for them.

Only downside is they've hiked up their prices by a $1 & this isn't visible anywhere online yet.
Abhi R
Their Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai are both excellent. I have only done takeaway, so cannot comment on the quality of their dine-in service, but the food here is delicious. The Drunken Noodles seem to always have a different flavour. Never bad, but definitely lacks consistency.
Sara Sergejew
The staff are super friendly, the atmosphere is great, the food is tasty. BUT, not very authentic. I feel silly for complaining, but my Thai beef salad was 95% beef. It didn't lack flavor, so much as authentic flavor. The beef was really tender though. This place is great value, good food, and so I would recommend it.

Came for a late night dinner. I went safe and ordered the pad thai and prawn crunchy dumpling looking things. The service was good. The restaurant was quite nice given the location. You feel away from the randomness of k-road. The most important thing was the food. I usually don't like thai food, however i was pleasantly surprised. The prawns and flavours in the pad thai were perfect. There was just enough meat to noodle ratio and the prawn dumplings were a delicious side. I would recommend highly for your late night food craving.

The owner is very positive and friendly. A good little spot for a good and cheap meal that still tastes authentic. The vibe is relaxed and service is very quick.

This is such a gem! It's easy to walk past this small inconspicuous eatery but I'm glad I decided to give it a try. Ordered their phad thai for only $13 which came in a delicious generous portion. I've eaten at various other thai restaurants in Auckland which are more expensive and not necessarily authentic. This however was tasty and not expensive. Very worth the price given it's location (it's just next to moustache cookie) on K Rd. Service was friendly too. Will definitely return to try other dishes.

Found this little gem by chance on our last night staying in Auckland, one of the best meals we had during our stay. Price is reasonable and portion is generous enough. Staff is friendly. Would have definitely come back if we knew this place earlier
Vinny Cistrone
Went here with my girlfriend. Found the menu gave a fair bit of variety with all the meats you could choose from. The price is very affordable with the most mains costing around 10-15$ and the size of each mean is easily enough for one person. We spent $42 and left full and satisfied (2 mains 2 starters). I would be happy to eat here again.

Located along krd.. this place have a nice vibe n a great place to dine in. Great for group of 5.
You need to place your order at the counter and you don't really have to wait long for your meal to arrive.

As for the quality of the food. It was good... I just feel something is missing .but I'm not sure what. I didn't get the WOW taste but it's still good. And will definitely go again. You can't really go wrong with any of the selection.

This place is very good, the food here tastes good and it s worth the money, I would recommend it to everyone, stop by and have some lunch. The quality is good, the taste is good and the music here is nice. Also the service is great, fast serving good for those who has little time. This place has some cool artwork that you can take some pictures with.

Food was OK. Service was slow. Took them more than 10 minutes to get my food only 1 other customer. Decor needs an uplift. The fish cake was tasteless. Disappointed
Katie A
Great food, very tasty and just the right spiciness. However when we went on a weeknight the service was super slow, 35 minutes to get our 2 rice dishes, and many others waiting too. Will have to visit again to see if the service improves.

Authentic tastes straight from the streets. Great place to eat. Very friendly staff. It is a budget eatery, so you can't walk in expecting fantastic ambience, but it is much better than most of the kind. Their all day $18 meal combo is absolutely crazy. We had spent the day on Mt. Eden and were famished when we reached and still walked out fuller than we had expected. Great portion sizes. Nice job fellas

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is the second time I've been to this thai joint. Food, ambience, price, service and quality is good. Always served and greeted with a smile. Service is quick and very good value for money as it's cheap. I wish the food tasted a little better, it would have given all the thai joints in the area a run for their money.

NEW FAVOURITE THAI PLACE. I'm always fond of trying new Thai places, but every time I want to eat Thai now I want to go to Krung Thep. Cheap dishes, great, bold flavours and really friendly service. The restaurant is quite small and not very much to look at, but it's lively, bright and would be suitable for groups of 2-4 people. I've eaten at more expensive/fancy places which just didn't hit the spot - either it wasn't very good for value or the dishes leaned too sweet as Thai places can sometimes do - but I can always count on Krung Thep to fulfil my Thai food craving on a budget.

Had a great casual dinner here on a Sunday night- the place was lovely and full of people. We stopped because I caught an authentic-looking pad Thai out the corner of my eye and felt the need to try it out!

We ordered the $18pp dinner deal which included a main of your choice, a 2pc entree and chicken satays. The chicken pad Thai was cooked well, tasty and a generous size- I just wished that the table had all the typical condiments of peanuts, chilli and fish sauce as it could have done with more of a hit! The beef stir fry was a winner- the salty and sweet flavours were spot on with an acidic punch. Chicken kebabs were meaty, the fish cake and curry puffs were good- nothing extraordinary although no complaints!

Would return to try out the curries and have more of the beef stir fry.

Time and time again we are never disappointed at Thai Street Food. Classic and delicious Thai food in such a vibrant location. We ordered the Panang curry which was rich with it's peanut sauce, the garlic and pepper stir fry which is always bursting with flavour and some classic deep fried starters (spring roll and prawn dumplings). Left absolutely satisfied and happy 🤗

If your looking for a quick, tasty and filling meal on K road then this is the place to visit! Really good service - the staff are always friendly and the food is served promptly. You'll find all the classic Thai dishes on the menu so there should be something for everyone. The decor is pretty simple but they have made the most of the space they have to work with.

We ordered the Cashew stir fry and the Drunken noodles with tofu. Both were well portioned and bang for buck. Our dishes were full of flavour and really authentic.

Would recommend for a quick cheap bite if your in the area!
Rutu Pandya
Really amazing Tom Yum Soup, good Red curry with Tofu... Very nice ambience for a small shack restaurant, overall a great experience and lunch date ✨
Tania
Best Thai food I've ever tried!! Friendly service and amazing food! This is my go to restaurant whenever I need my Thai food fix. Recommend the green curry and the peanut sauce stir fry!
TonyF3
Very good food period. Basic surroundings, very K rd ambience. I ordered the recommended massaman stir fry and it came out fantastic! Pretty impressed with use if lots of herbs and probably a very well used smoky wok. Cant wait to be back!
Peepeeboy
I called in to order a takeaway for lunch. The guy who picked up the phone was nice at the beginning, but after knowing I was only ordering one thing his tone completely changed and told me to go and order it over the counter.

I work nearby and have half an hour for lunch. Food there usually takes 10-15mins. It is just more convenient to order first before picking up.

I ordered a stir fri other than being too oil I liked the flavour. The low rating was mainly for disappointing service I received. I will be going back and I'm happy to change the rating if the service improves.

We live just down the road from this place and it is honestly the best place on krd for cheap tasty food. Great for a group dinner. Great food, friendly service and good seating. Good takeaways and good to eat in too. Would suggest this place to anyone who isn't a snob.

Awesome food! Awesome service! Lots of laughing while enjoying authentic Thai with our new friend from Bangkok. The Yum Nuer is out of this world, thought about it so much we went back a few days later - this is definitely our favourite spot now. Well worth the trip across the Bridge. Looking forward to our next meal.
Manuela Ovalle Herrera
If you want to try a great Thai soup, I highly recommend this place. I've tried both on their menu and was very impressed. The food is affordable and the service is fantastic!

It's great value for every dollar spent here.
Awesome satay, great Tom yum soup.
We loved the lab khai chicken with sticky rice.
My wife enjoyed the massaman curry !
The owner manager welcomed us with a big smile.
Wish they have a bar would be great to have some singha along with some really home style good food.
Every time I'm on k road will try eat something or a take away !

Friendly customer service and delivery of food. The food is nice so far and the presentation is well done... I would definitely come here again for another meal...

Been coming here a bit lately little spot but pump out good food fast. Few differences with there food its usually consistent but the chicken nibbles are awesome
Fountain Abbey
We have been here a couple of times with our family. It is a bright little place. The menu is small, but done well. The food is tasty, though my husband finds the portion size a little small. The duck red curry is particularly tasty.
Jade Lim
A little eatery with simple deco, good food, plus super friendly and fast service.

Our overall rating on their Drunken noodles, Pad Thai, Tom Yum...
Flavour: 4/5
Taste: 3.8/5
The One With A Nut Allergy...
As a person that suffers from a mild-moderate nut and peanut allergy, I definitely recommend taking caution for this place. I've been to countless Thai restaurants that easily accommodate for those suffering from a nut allergy by double checking, by removing nuts from the dish I order, etc.

I told the waiter that I had a nut allergy and emphasised I cannot have it. When the dish was served, I was horrified by the fact that cashews were served on the top as a garnish. Upset, I asked them if they can make another one without the nuts on top and the man proceeds to say that he just put them on the top of the rice and it didnt touch anything else; he then takes them off using his HANDS! I request that it be made again and that nut allergies cant be taken lightly and he kindly did and apologised which I appreciated.

The rice was salty, and salt overwhelmed the fried rice. I'm sorry this is not a good place for Thai food for nut-allery sufferers!

Peanut-Nut Friendliness: Not at all
Environment: 5/10
Taste: 4/10

Awesome place. Come here at least once a week. Everyone is SO friendly and you feel really welcomed. Cool decor and the food is fresh, tasty and amazing. I've been working my way through the menu, but the Garlic Pepper beef is delish, so is the red curry and the drunken noodles (pretty sure thats what they're call!).

Highly recommend.
Jona Thin
Great casual eatery. I have tried the vege red curry and the vegan 'clear soup'. Food is cooked fast, the tofu is firm and the veges are perfectly cooked with a bit of crunch. So far I'm loving the curry and want to try a veg version of the massaman curry and pad thai. Lovely service and a comfortable environment. Will definitely be back for more!
Geoff Handsfield
Stopped in here for a quick dinner before a show. FANTASTIC! Everything we had was incredible. The Yum Neur was the best I've ever had- I strongly recommend it. Also had the red duck curry, which was excellent. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a bite.

I decided to have a lite bite to eat for lunch on Tuesday and ordered a Chicken Green Curry. Fresh & Fast - I watched the food being prepared and Yes! its definitely fresh and WOW, no messing around with cooking either. Great for a Lunch Time Quick Bite, The flavours were mouthwatering and the chicken was tender and still juicy with the vegetables crunchy, not soggy like a number of other venues. This new Restaurant is a "Hit" for me and I will visit this venue again. Well Done to all the Staff and a big WOW for the Chef.
David Pentecost
I have been searching for the ultimate Lab Gai, and have found it here, the best in Central Auckland go and try it!
It's tasty and full of lime juice and fresh spices.
Morganjeanb94
This is such an amazing and yummy place! I go there so often it's so cheap!! The are fast at your order and make it so comfortable to eat in and so friendly!
Alex Morgan
Best massaman curry ever! I'm ashamed to say they recognise me already and they've only been open a few weeks... Quick friendly service and a lot of food for the price
Olivia Tay
This lovely eatery serves authentic and unpretentious thai food which is similar to those that I had in Thailand. My personal favourites are their pad thai, tom yum seafood soup, shrimp toast and mango sticky rice. It is so heart warming to find such a friendly owner who is ever so attentive and prompt in his service. On top of that, he even acceded to our request of mango sticky rice by preparing it for us on our last day in Auckland. Besides, the interior decoration is simple but not boring. The simple geometric shapes painted on the walls and artworks by the owner gave a character to this new eatery. I'll definitely be back if I drop by Auckland again in the near future!
