Review Seven - Auckland Central

Crytos
Amazing food, with fantastic presentation that sends the taste buds in all directions. Designed for sharing with a good amount of choice. Loved the food here. The service was sporadic and our server kept changing to other staff throughout the evening which resulted in repeated conversations a few times. The first round of food was delivered very quickly however the second took quite a while. The mood and atmosphere was great for this rooftop bar! The only thing I would change was the music volume, as much as I like shouting it's not ideal when trying to have a conversation, but this wouldn't stop me coming back. Would have liked to see more chicken on the menu too. Overall excellent place.

We were so engrossed in our dinner, that i forgot to take photos of all the other amazing food that we had! The portions are small, and it is a bit expensive, but it is 100% worth it. The food is amazing, and the cocktails are just. The staff were lovely, we had never been to Seven before and didn't know what to order. The waitress was more than happy to come back and let us order sporadically so that we could taste a little bit of everything and make sure we didn't over or under order. It is a small venue, and bookings are essential, so make sure you do book. Especially for large tables. It also gets quite warm, especially in summer. The view is also equally as amazing. I'd go again, but for special occasions.

Amazing location - you can't go wrong with a rooftop location...ever. I had my birthday party here last year and went back for dinner with friends. I was more focused on partying rather than having dinner during my party so I had to go back to try the food. Menu was quite straightforward and my meal was tasty. I'd go back here just for the location and hope it'll be open again soon.

The mixed lunch menu with a drink is great value, the service was good, and the food was good. Pictured below is the dumplings, fried chicken and rice, and the view of the waterfront.

This was a really nice restaurant with great views of the wharf, we sat right at the top and really enjoyed it. We hadnt planned to come here but glad we did in the end. The cocktails were amazing. Would definitely come again

Beautiful setting, amazing food and lovely staff! We didn’t know what we wanted so got a couple of plates to begin with and the server was more then happy to keep coming back every time we wanted more! :)

The food was great although the dumplings I found were overpriced for what they were, the vibe is fantastic and the views are awesome.

Very tasty food, great ambiance. Recommend to all

Great food, got the 3 piece special for $25 well worth it

Good food and nice atmosphere over looking the Auckland Harbor

I was really excited about eating here but unfortunately every aspect of our experience was a let down from the extremely chewy ceviche which I wouldn’t call ceviche due to the fact that there wasn’t a hint of acid on the plate and the pile of raw onions were a put off. Our mains came and the lamb rack was three different sizes one severally overcooked for $36 I thought was a bit tight. Front of house experience wasn’t there, I could see the lack of care with all staff including the manager. Very unprofessional. Fred Wong it is a disappointment your name is attached to this place, I have dined at Ebisu many times and it is always faultless

DON'T GO THERE! Had a lovely meal and waitress said come back anytime tonight for a great night. We came back 1 hour later but suddenly they were closed for a private function. Bouncer was so rude and dismissive, I will take my business elsewhere!

♥️ Chicken katsu bao ❤️ Fresh house made raspberry soda

Beautiful Rooftop Location. Best place to chill out with friends and family on weekend. Food is delicious and staff is friendly. Highly recommend

What a gem I have found here. People I know go there late as it turns into a night club but the food, service and drinks here are even better for a sit down. They have a happy hour menu before 7 and gives us a selection of foods for quite cheap

Fish bao bun was a bit bland, could’ve been more flavoursome so a little bit disappointed in that. The chicken and prawn dumplings were amazing, especially the sauce they incorporated it with. Edamame beans were nothing special, just the usual.

The sun, the water and the food - all fantastic here. <br/>Been 3 times, and each it’s been so quiet! Unfortunately the only thing this place is missing is a vibe, otherwise everything else is spot on!

We dined here during restaurant month. The set was good. We enjoyed our food a lot. I liked the dumplings but the service was slow. They took a while to give us menus, take out food order, take our drinks order and to even give us water. It wasn’t too busy. The view is great but I expected a bit better service for a place in Britomart.

This is a fantastic restaurant with fabulous food. I've never tasted such delicious wonton and chicken tonkatsu bao. The pan fried whole fish with lemon gives you an unprecedented feeling. You wont regret having dinner with your friends here.

Good service , beautiful view of Auckland at night. Great place to catch up with friends, even for drinks👌🏾. Good food, bonus if you take advantage of the August menu month.

Really love the rooftop atmosphere. Sets a romantic mood to the restaurant. <br/>My favourite dish is the pork and chives wonton, fried chicken and chashu. Would definitely go back to try other dishes. <br/><br/>We also ordered the beef and mushroom. If you love your veges.. the mushroom dish is good.<br/><br/>However, I ordered my drink and it took ages to come. Basically, all the dishes came and my drink hasn’t come. Ordered a raspberry and lemon grass juice. Love it tho. <br/><br/>

I came here with friends for a 24th birthday. It was a set menu $60pp and there were 18 of us in total. The food itself was nice, however they only served 1 bowl of each dish between 4/5 people. The portions were not enough and we all had to pick off each small dish. Waiter staff were professional and friendly however at the end of the night the service we received was not very good. Everyone paid for their own food ($60) and whatever drinks they ordered. When it came to paying it resulted in us arguing with staff over who had paid and who hadn’t due to their negligence and lack of organisation. Otherwise the food was good (if we had more).

Epic views of Auckland harbour.<br/><br/>Patty (legend) and the team at Seven are so awesome.<br/><br/>They gave us some great advice on the menu and found the most delicious, buttery and oak filled Chardonnay.<br/><br/>Church Road ‘McDonald Series’ Chardonnay <br/>We paired it with the beef Tataki with onion garlic dressing.

I have been here a handful of times starting from the very first week it opened. Have just recently went back for a lunch date with the girls. The location is amazing, get such a high view of the harbor. We ordered the lunch trays and tried abit of everything from the dumplings, bao, pork, and fish. The fish dish was definately the highlight for me as the soup broth was just fan-tas-tic. Staff was also great. We had a relatively new waiter, was very helpful, friendly and very patient as our table had quite a few questions but she answered them with a smile. What really disappointed me was when it came to payment. They charged an additional fee for use of an eftpos card? I have never experienced that at any resturant before. I can understand for credit cards, but debit cards?? I did question the staff taking the payment (who is a manager for ostro I believe he said), and apparently it is a new thing that's starting for all resturants in the next 6 months. . Not so sure until i come across another resturant that does so. Until then, seafarers stop ripping people off.

Great atmosphere for cocktails and the popcorn shrimp here is amazing. Love it when they host events which brings some change to the decor inside.

Went here a few months back for my work's Christmas party. Small company with our partners there was probably 12 of us all together. Set menu and couple drinks that came with but we were able to order any drinks we wanted as well. The place has an interesting vibe, okay decor but the space is not large at all, just long and semi inside/outside. We were seated at the end of the place across the from kitchen, so basically tucked in our own corner.<br/><br/>The food was delicious and I would like to go through how each part was but what followed is the reason my review is so low.<br/><br/>Once we finished and were still drinking the bar/manager cut us off saying we had to finish our drinks before they continued serving us. There was only three drinks on the table with maybe two in hand for a couple people, the rest of it was cleared. After I know a lot of money was dropped on that place and drinks it was super disrespectful and ridiculous. We weren't obnoxious, rowdy or inappropriate in anyway which way that would warrant this nor did it actually make sense to be "cut off" if it was for a couple people to only finish a their own glasses.<br/><br/>It was a really disappointing experience that otherwise would have resulted in a better review overall (4 stars) and memorable experience, but now all I have is that. We ended up going else where to finish the night. Maybe they have improved their service but there's no way I'd travel 45min now to go back.

Seven is a little hard to find - up stairs or a lift & stairs depending on your preference. The view once you get there though is worth it!<br/>They have an Asian themed menu with just the right amount of options, and a delicious cocktail menu. It does pay to book as it gets busy especially after work. <br/>We ordered a range of dishes & enjoyed all of them - the popcorn prawns & dumplings were the fave! The chicken was good but could have done with some mayo or spice.

Went to Seven for the restaurant month menu and discovered a nice rooftop bar style restaurant. The view is amazing!!! Took a while to be seated but the staff were very friendly and checked back to ask us how the food is going. <br/><br/>Looking at the standard menu however, the food looked better but we still chose the restaurant month special. <br/><br/>The food came out in courses, but because the roof was open, our food cooled really fast. <br/><br/>The tomyum soup was good, not special though. Followed by mains, lamb skewers and pork belly. The best dish was actually the beans! <br/><br/>I would come back for drinks but probably not for the food again.

Saw this place on seafarers website decided to try it out, it’s on the rooftop of the seafarers building in britomart, sheltered by tensile tents, kind cool cos u still feel the breeze with the warmth of the heater. Kinda disappointed that the ambient lighting wasn’t purple as shown on the website, but dats cool. We got the boba cocktail fusion drink, which was a cool concept but the presentation made it mediocre, it looked quite cheap in the poorly sealed takeaway cup, tasted nice tho! (note: boba isn’t real boba but the popping type). For food we got: Crab dumplings, Lamb skewers and beef tataki, they were light and delicate, quite small in portion but tasted good.<br/><br/>Food-8.5/10<br/>Service- 8.5/10<br/>Aesthetics-9/10

Seven is hip, with good friendly service, tasty food and good music on a Friday night. My favourite drink was the bubble tea influenced cocktail. I can't choose which dish was outstanding as they were all nice. Will definitely be visiting again.

Had to wait a lil while to get a drink but that's only because it was so busy and my espresso martini was so freaking nice, so defiantly worth the wait, I appreciate that dried coconut garnish. The bouncer was nice and the music was good, can't really ask for much more.

Friendly service, lovely view. Food is okay. Best dish would be the popcorn chicken, and the house sodas are very good. Nice restaurant for nibbles rather than meals.

Friendly staff - good view - good ambiance.<br/><br/>One of my new favorite spots for after work drinks! They have a happy hour everyday with varied wines to chose from. Out of happy hour I’ve tried the Penang Punch cocktail which is citrusy and dry, not overly sweet. This cocktail was well balanced and refreshing. Average pricing for Britomart ($16).<br/>Food was also good. Their fish in particular was amazing.

Food is not the highlight, venue could be great for private function. Ambience and the cocktails definitely stunning! The waitress really cool and helpful...definitely more a happy hour place !!!<br/>

I was really excited about this visiting this place and took a chance to dine here as I emailed them about why the website doesn't let you book unless you have a large party. So we turned up and straight away we were asked if we had a booking, I explained what had happened and we were offered a table for a limited time which fine for us but I feel if I hadn't called them out on their policy, we probably wouldn't of got that table at all. They said we could have it for 90 mins but we only needed it for 30 mins and the food comes out fast like Lantern Alley or White & Wongs.<br/><br/>Service is really good here and the ambience is cool (we had visited here before it was Seven and it is quite different). I didn't like how there was a massive draft throughout the whole restaurant, they had an area sectioned off, I'm guessing it was coming from there but points for having heated the bench seat.<br/><br/>We had the fried tempura eggplant, pork belly duo, cucumber salad, seven fried rice and an island time & saigon suprise (it's spelled "suprise on the menu). Everything came out quite fast except for the pork, it came as we were just about to finishing everything else. I did like everything and it was tasty but it's nothing particularly special, you could go to a comparative place for less or even make a similar meal at home. This is by far the most expensive "trendy" Chinese restaurant I've been to, with small portions. I can see in the last few years fashionable Chinese restaurants are following in the foot steps of Japanese restaurants but this isn't right.<br/><br/>I was trying to ask the waitress in a nice way, what do you get in the pork dish for $30 and she sort of explained it was like a main so I thought it should be good. It was the most pretentious dish, it took so long for a small amount of pork that pretty much tasted like any other bbq and roast pork I've ever had. I will say the bbq pork wasn't fatty tasting but that's not what I like while the roast pork had a lot of fat on some parts which I did like. Also the roast pork had that "glassy" crunch to the skin which I've never seen or had before on roast pork, that was the only highlight of the night for me. I feel the price is suppose to be justified by all of the techniques used in the dish but at the end of the day, it's pork, if it was a more expensive protein I would understand.<br/><br/>The cocktails were pretty good but I didn't like the salted rim on the island time, it just felt like it didn't do anything for the drink in my opinion. As soon as my mrs tasted the salt she turned the glass to where I had been drinking it to drink it without the salt.<br/><br/>I think this place is trying to be too exclusive and live of the hype of being new in a burgeoning area. I must say though this is just my opinion, by all means check it out for yourself.

Really cool funky venue. We were here as a group the first week of opening. We had a great evening and the dumplings probably the.best we have had in Auckland. Amazing views. Will be back.most definately.

Really nice atmosphere and good view. Not too loud either. Cocktails were nice but the food was average + overpriced. Tried all 3 of the desserts which weren't very good. Also tried the popcorn shrimp which was decent. <br/><br/>Overall I would come back to chill and have some drinks but I would skip on any of the food

Came here with a friend for a Tuesday night dinner. It's only been around a couple of weeks. It's on the top floor above Ostro and I've been here for drinks last year before it was Seven. Views are awesome, straight out into the port and the Harbour. Highlight was definitely the cocktails. The salted coconut espresso martini is what you need to come here for! The food was good but not amazing. The duck was flavourful but a bit dry. The fried eggplant was good, I liked the tangy sauce that came with it. The pork duo was also good, nicely cooked crispy belly but the BBQ char siu was also a wee bit dry. All ok though because the accompanying sauces were so good that it didn't spoil the experience too much. Overall, a nice place with good food and amazing cocktails that fits in with the Britomart feel.
