Review Greys Ave Deli - Auckland Central

I visited here during a visit to Auckland when I wanted some connection with the Jewish community. They were lovely and welcoming, and when I was crushed to find out there were no bagels left, Sam specially found me their very last one and gave it to me free of charge. It made me so happy at a difficult time. The bagel was amazing! Plus the pickles, bagel chips, and matzo ball soup were all fantastic. For a perfect little slice of Jewish culture and delicious food, you can’t go wrong here. Cheers Sam!

Literally the best bagel I have ever tried In Auckland (maybe my life too). The bagels made by Sam are much different to what you know your Americanised bagel to be. Usually you’d expect bagels to be dense and a bit hard, but the fresh bagels from here are soft and chewy and more Bread like - in the best way possible. They’re busy at lunch but quick service. Definitely a great spot for bagels!

We used Sam's Kosher Deli Catering service for our function and it was really spectacular. Most importantly, the food was fabulously yummy, all fresh, and beautifully presented. Much praising was given by our guests. His menu and setting up suggestions really helped us plan the event, nothing was missing in terms of quality or quantity, and everything was taken care off by him and his team from start to finish.

Come here for: one of the best chocolate chip walnut cookies in NZ, bagel sandwiches, and kosher supplies/meals. I look forward to returning for rugelach and other baked goods. Sandwiches are served after 11am. I was told firmly that’s when all baked goods are ready, including bagels. Their cookie deserves *all of the hype*. I’ll go out of my way for it in the future. Its size, thickness, and flavor is reminiscent of Levain Bakery out of NYC. Loved their falafel sandwich on a chewy, crusty bagel with hummus, greens, sliced pickles and onion. Get your bagel fix here.

Sam's bagels are so incredibly good. We're only in Auckland for 2 days and I'm sad we're not here longer. The bagels are chewy and delicious, they don't completely fall apart the further into eating you get, and the pickles... Ah, the pickles! I normally do not like dill that much, but these ones are divine - lightly pickled and so crunchy. When we came here yesterday the pickles for mine were served on the side. This happy accident meant I had to stop my partner from picking at them, coz they were so good and I wanted them, darn it! Today he got the classic bagel... With pickles. Also, the coffee is great. I've not had much luck with decaf coffee lately, often cafes make it quite bitter, but their decaf coffee was excellent (and so was their regular coffee, from what I gather). Finally - their pain au chocolate (chocolate croissants) are the best I've had in a very long time. Great place, do go, friendly staff, excellent service, fantastic food!

Best bagels I’ve had in NZ - hands down. Their cookies are also incredible.

Excellent 🤝 It's only a pareve or dairy Restaurant. There is no meat here. I would highly recommend the OG Bagel sesame Salmon (lox) sandwich. With cream cheese. It was very fresh and tasted delicious 😋 you could sit inside or outside here cost was $16nzd. I would highly recommend this place to get a quick bite.

Dude!!!!!! Started a new job this week and already been to this place twice for lunch!!!! The first time I got the salad (which was PHENOMENAL… how do they make salad taste that good?!?!) then went back a couple days later to get another and they didn’t have any :( the very friendly guy working there asked if I wanted to try a bagel. I wasn’t too keen because I don’t like seafood or egg, but the falafel one had me intrigued (although worried it might be dry). He persuaded me, and I took the made to order(!!) falafel bagel to their cute little outdoor seating area. HO MY GOODNESS. The first bite was insane. I had no idea falafel could be soft and moist (and not dry!!!) and same with the bagel!!! It was soft and chewy and not hard and dense!!! the guy brought me out a drink he was getting ice for, and I said “OMG DUDE!!” And he said “told you!” I can’t believe how good it was. I never write google reviews. And I’ve written a novel here. I’m actually salivating thinking about it. Seriously. That was the best thing I’ve eaten in years. Wish I could give 100 stars. Oh and great service - very friendly!!!!!

Such a hidden place for delicious Montreal styled bagels and other foods !! Definitely reminded me of the bagels in Montreal . Their rugelach are so delicious 🤤. 100% recommend this place

This is a vegetarian place (or more precisely dairy kosher, and because cause they do have fish as well - pescatarian would be a more appropriate definition). The staff is always so helpful and smiling and the chefs do a very good job bringing some Middle East taste to their salads: coliflower, eggplant, etc. I believe it is quite unique and full of healthy options.

I've been here a few times. The coffee is good and on my last visit I had a really tasty baked cauliflower dish with a cheesy almond and mint sauce. The cafe also stocks a selection of kosher food products for the community and one wall is full of shelves and fridge/freezers. The cafe windows look out to a large courtyard complete with olive tree.

Greys Ave Deli is part of the Jewish School on Greys Ave. As a result it has an interesting range of deli foods & is kosher (which includes a full fridge of Ben & Jerry's). Salads sell out quickly, past 12.30pm the choices are a bit more limited. There's usually a good choice of salads, frittatas, sweets & the odd baked kumara. Portions are decent, prices are more than fair & service is friendly. The coffee isn't incredible but it's definitely drinkable.

I wish I worked closer to Grey;s Ave Deli as it is without peer in Auckland. Really clean and fantastic staff serving food of the highest quality. The coffee is really well made and they have a great bagels and sandwiches. Their cakes are so rich - especially on the days when they have slices of choc cake for sale.

Greys Ave Deli is just a stone's throw away from my work and a great place to have a quick lunch. The menu changes daily so it's always quite exciting to find out what is in the cabinet. The salads are always so creative, fresh and full of flavour. The service is attentive and the coffees are well made -if you dine in, be sure to check out the shelves of packaged kosher foods!

#Challenge Sarah Reynolds

We are in New Zealand visiting family and staying at an inner city hotel. Can't begin to explain how terrible the hotel meals were but was absolutely delighted to find a small independent cafe next door! This place has served us so well this week, catering to our breakfasts and sometimes lunches too. Awesome for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs. Loved the cosy atmosphere and thought the boys on the counter were friendly and coffee was lovely. Would recommend to anyone staying in accommodation on Pitt Street.

Let me start by saying even if you are not vegetarian, eat kosher or live in the area, you have to go to Greys Ave Deli for their amazing food. I have never been anywhere else in Auckland with such a fabulous selection of fresh salads, tasty treats and amazing coffee. This place seems to be a secret of anyone who works on this street. Salads are the stand out, as are their range of naughty and not so naughty treats. Service was fun and natural without being too casual.
