Review Sal Rose - Auckland Central

Wagner Silveira
We had a large group to celebrate a birthday, including kids. Sal Rose function room was perfect for our group, the wait staff was super friendly, especially with the kids. The service was fast for a group that size and the food was delicious.

Five star for service! The food was good, it gets the thumbs up from my grandson so must have been good 😁. But I would have given the food alone 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Couple of good options in the vegetarian pizza but not much to choose from if you were hungry for pasta. Still was a nice meal and not too expensive.

Returned after 5 years and still the same. Casual and cosy. Pleasant staff. Delicious dinner. Menu had changed slightly. Spaghetti meatballs no longer on menu.

Good ambience and lovely staff. Food was delicious. Great to have this so near home.

It's a beautiful restaurant where you can try authentic Italian food and beverage. I highly recommend it.

We had an amazing family birthday dinner here. The food was fantastic with lots of delicious gluten free options, the service was phenomenal (second to none) and the wine suggestions were perfect. Going the extra mile and birthday-afying the birthday boy's dessert was unexpected and very much appreciated.

Great restaurant, Host service is outstanding, not our first visit. the detailed menu description from the owner again was appreciated, and wine match made us feel we were valued, and best of all the food was as described absolutely Devine! Great value. We will be back.

I came for Dinner last with two friends and even though we had to wait for a Table( my bad in that I maybe should of booked as it was busy for Sunday) the Service and the food was delicious as it always is here. We were checked in on to ask how we liked the food as well. The Manager kept Apologising for the wait but as we were up at the Bar didn't mind too much and it was only around 20minutes wait anyway. As we were leaving the Manager offered us a wee drink of Lemoncelo Liqueur which was a nice touch for waiting. All in all a very positive experience with Service top notch as always. Will definitely come again. Regards, Ian Davies.

The best place for pesto pasta. We always come here just for the fettuccine pollo (even if it’s just takeaway). The food itself is sometimes different ie amount of mushroom, different size chicken but the in house made pesto is what tops it off! We always grab some extra chips to dunk it into the pesto sauce. Staff are always friendly and accommodating

Beautiful food. Great service. A local treat with flair. Had the meal for 4 special. Delivered promptly and well set up for easy coursing. What a lovely selection of excellently prepared dishes from start to ultimate finish. An all encompassing taste experience at home that made us feel like we were dining in the restaurant.
life is good
Food was good, light yet quite filling, big portions. Pizza flavour was good but base was too thin would've preferred a thicker doughy base, maybe I'll ask them next time. Wait time was under 10 for starters and 15-20 for mains. Great service. Enjoyed it.

Location: very convenient Parking: off street parking available in evening Staff: very friendly and considerate to customers needs. Quick on their toes Service: good pace let's you enjoy the company and time at the restaurant. Seating: lot of options from table for 2 to table of 24. Reservations: appreciated and required to avoid waiting time Food quality: fresh and tasty. Made as per customers requirements. All menu items are tasty too. Value for money: a bit pricey but is good place to hangout with mates and family. Overall experienc: Good food, quick service... Chef prepared special vegetarian meals for us and for Vegan among our group.

Awesome experience for my family, beautiful menu and dishes, service from a high standard by all staff! Loved how the waitress offered to explain the menu and the catch of the day! What was most impressive is how she remembered our tables entire order without writing it down! We have been to many restaurants where they write it down and still get it wrong! Five stars to Sal Rose, lots of parking and an amazing setting!

Simply love this place. Its so nice to enjoy fine Italian cuisine without battling city traffic or parking. Staff are some of the most attentive and hardworking people I have ever met. Always smiling and willing to help. Food is always top notch and prices are great. Will definitely return!

Tried pizza again after a while. Sadly just not up to scratch for the price . Hardly any toppings and some of what was listed was missing . Keen to support this local business but won’t be back.
Andy
A restaurant with a very captivating atmosphere in the evening and a lively crowd, the food and service don't disappoint!

Had a nice night here with my family for Father's Day.

The good: Loved the cute decor and the food was tasty. Had a kid's menu with crayons for colouring which my son loved.

The bad: The garlic bread was dry and not garlicky at all so def wouldn't order that again. The soft drinks were literally 90% full with ice leaving very little liquid, we had a bit of a laugh about it while trying to jam our straws to the bottom of our glasses. The pasta dishes, while very tasty, were all unusually creamy and heavy (especially the carbonara) so would probably try a tomato-based one if we go again.

We probably will go again since it's nice and close to home, and has nice ambiance.

The 1 Star I have given is very generous unlike the food, service and atmosphere at Sal Rose last night! We were extremely disappointed with everything so would not recommend at all!

Really great service and authentic Italian food. The platters were great and the pizzas tasted very authentic. I consider it expensive so I wouldn’t really be back.
Rex
Really good food but rather expensive. I am happy I finally went here but I don't think I will be back due to the prices. Service was great though and we all really enjoyed our meals.

Thanks to a wonderful girlfriend I have been introduced to this lovely restaurant:) I’ve been twice in the last week, first time I had the gnocchi, then rhubarb/apple pie dessert, both outstanding. My friend had pork stuffed with asparagus and ? Apparently delicious. I had the house red, Italian number, very nice. Pork eating friend had an on tap Italian lager, best lager ever!! Service, perfect! Second time i went, we shared a garlic pizza entree followed by meat lovers and a seafood pizza - beautiful!! Will be my go to for Italian from now on!!

Ive been here twice.. food is good and so is the ambiance. The people are very accommodating as
Well.. but the only thing is its a but pricey and the serving size is not that big.
Its a good date place though:)

We went to Sal Rose last Monday. Great being there again (hadnt been there for 7 or so years) They still have the Italian lessons in the restrooms and we really enjoyed the food and the service. The guy looking after us was Vincento I think....really nice fella, gave us a bit of help with our choices and had a great sense of humour. You should give Mr V a payrise because he sang Happy Birthday so sweetly!I had the Beef Cheeks (yum!) We had a great evening and look forward to going there again...thanks to you all :-)

Picked up a takeaway tonight for our first time eating from here. Calamari Fritti, Arancini, Crocche di potate and 2 mains, Lasagne and the Stuffed chicken. ready really quickly in great packaging both for the ride home and preserving the meal. More than enough to feed the 4 of us and each part was amazingly cooked, In particular the Pollo alla Capri and its delicious smooth Rissoto accompaniment.

Saw Sal Rose on here and decided to try it out. Service overall is good. However they need to make sure the glass cups are clean as we found a few have smudges. I like their starters more than the mains. The beef fillet doesn’t worth its price as there sauce is quite bland. Fries are not crunchy enough it taste like the ones you get from the supermarket. Chicken breast is a bit dry and the pasta doesn’t have much in it. Food wise I find a little disappointed. Compare the prices and quality, SPQR at Ponsonby is much much better.
Dale Spencer
Have visited on an ‘off’ night and numerous times on their ‘on’ nights....overall Sal Rose is a pretty darned good option for a suburban pizza and pasta joint.
Prices seem to be starting to creep up a little but no shortage of food > $$ ratio.
Our visiting Melbernian thoroughly enjoyed the pasta which is fairly high praise.
Good atmosphere and good for groups.
Get the consistency of quality right and Sal Rose will live on!
I Am Hungry
Good food and great service, best value pizzas. and pastas ..sides are yum too...and amazing alcohol selection. Going back always. Parking is no problem too.

What a find. Superb authentic Italian, great wine list, excellent staff. We had four different mains and all were very good. This little gem is one of Auckland's best.
Pinny Quinlan
So awesome here. Treat you like family. Food is delicious. I always get the fish, stuffed chicken breast or seafood risotto . Recommend if you have children, they will love the pizza's and are easily entertained with a kids pack (colouring etc)
Good service and yummy food

Disappointing dinner party this evening. Garlic bread had no garlic taste whatsoever. Service was poor, waitresses was aloof and ordered the wrong order to the chef so someone had to wait for their pizza while the rest of us ate. The seafood linguine smelt like rotting meat and was missing scallops. Majorly dissatisfied- over priced tasteless food. Will not be returning.
Oliviaann
The food here is absolutely amazing! Never disappointed! Staff members are always super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming! 10/10 would recommend this restaurant!

We hardly eat out and more rarely try a new place. This place was a pleasant surprise. The staff was very welcoming and polite. Decor was good. Lighting could be a wee more brighter. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert was delicious. We went out with a full stomach and happy taste buds. Pricing is a bit on the higher side but portion size is good n the taste is worth it.

One hour 47 minutes was the amount of time we were kept waiting for our

main course. We were a party of six. One person had a first course.
They were not busy when we arrived at 6.30.
A simple apology for keeping us waiting would have made all the difference, but it seems by the reviews it's common here..,
The main courses were nice. Insultingly small 4 their price. Deserts were all poor.
Good place to go if u have lots of money, lots of time and no appetite.

Came in here to treat mum for Mothers Day and was very pleased. Straight away, upon stepping in you are greeted in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Nice low lighting to set an intimate mood with candles on all the tables during the night service. The menu is quite large and offers a good variety of option of different pastas, salads and other dishes. I myself had the Chicken and Basil Fettuccine, which blew me away. The portions were incredibly generous, colors were vibrant and the taste was amazing. Would definitely come back in here again to try something else. Auckland just found itself a little Italy.
Brian Withers
Sal Rose
The food was mediocre. The chicken in the fettuccine was over-cooked therefore tough and dry. Pork belly was tough. Service was very good.
Lisa
I'm so very gutted because this used to be one of my favourite italian places... definitely gone downhill since the last time I visited tho 😭😭
Risotto and Lasagne was bland
Service was so-so
Probably won't be back...
Saw another customer return their meals too 😞😞

Dined here with my workmates for a work birthday dinner.

When you walk in, you get a lovely, warm ambiance with a nice cosy setting. They also have an upstairs dining which looked nice.I tried the salmone affumicato pizza which was made up of smoked salmon, garlic, spinach, capers, mozzarella & sour cream. DELICIOUS!! Cooked in a woodfired oven, the flavours were devine and tasted of authentic Italian! Club serrento cocktail complimented this dish perfectly!

Definately a placed I would come back to dine with my family.

It was supposed to be a quick dinner stopover before heading to a party, but it turned out we had a enjoyable lovely wine and dinner. Nice ambiance, good wine selection. Waitstaff were helpful and friendly to replace the fish of the day with another fish thanks to the chef, it was delicious. Garlic bread was a little too dry and there was not much taste of the garlic either. But other then that its a nice Italian local restaurant to visit.
Melissa
Thanks S for introducing me to a new place I would've never thought to try! The staff were super friendly 😀

Foodwise my friend and I shared a pizza. It's hard to go wrong with pizza usuaallyy but then again pizza is so subjective. Anyway, I liked the pizza I ordered! The Mamma Mia pizza. 🍕🍕🍕🍕 Thin base pizzas are my favourite so it was great that these ones were thin and crispy! Wouldve been nice if there was more cheese though 😋 I'm not sure if many people would be willing to pay $18-$24 for a pizza but maybe? If you want a break from dominoes/hells/sals? 😅

Other people ordered lasagne, gnocchi, pesto pasta, and another pizza. I think they liked it? 😂
The mocktail I ordered was too sweet and it was quite syrup-ey so I had to dilute it with water.

Anyway, the dessert was the fun part. We ordered the mixed platter, the dark chocolate mousse, raspberry semifreddo and a creme brulee. The creme brulee was hands down the best out of the bunch! Then the raspberry semifreddo comes 2nd even though that was a bit tooo frozen.

To be honest I'm not too sure I would come back because the food didn't really WOW me 😕
Andrew Clasby
We booked a table for fathers day, arrived at 7 pm. Had to call staff over to take our order, waited more than 50 mins for food to arrive. Never got asked if we wanted any drinks, never asked if food was OK, never asked if we wanted more drinks, never asked if we wanted desert.

The service was just non existent, after the meal we had to go to the counter to ask for the bill.

For the very high prices and mediocre food, I would have gotten better service at MC Donald's. Not impressed, would not go there again or recommend to anybody.
Angela
Used to live nearby here, so would walk to this restaurant for dinners on special occasions. A little pricey, but the service is very friendly and the food is always up to standards. The pizzas are a favourite of mine, but the pasta is also definitely worth a try. I've always been too full for dessert, but perhaps another time when I come back...
Angie Cannon
Really disappointing. Waited 45 minutes for two pizzas that were overlooked. Had one drink and then no more service from wait staff. Used to go quite a lot a few years ago and loved this place but menu still exactly the same...but cooked badly. Won't be returning.
Paul Bartlett
Simply outstanding, the best lasagne EVER!!! Great attentive and helpful staff and Good entertainment for the kids. Would definitely recommend, we'll be back for sure

Quite a pleasant eatery. Nice environment especially at the rear of the building. Service very good.
Some nice Italian wines in stock.
The food is more 'kiwi' than genuine Italian which is a shame. For service I give a 5 out of 5, for the food a 3/5 as its not real Italian. If youve ever been to Italy you'll understand this comment.
Alana Rose Gray
Since dining here for only the second time ea couple of weeks ago we have decided this is the perfect Italian local. The wine selection is fantastic although it would be cool if they had some craft beers available as well. We had the platter to start which was great and the pickled vegetables were the perfect accompaniment on the platter. We had a selection of main pasta dishes - the ragu got a big thumbs up and my parents who live out of Auckland loved every part of the evening. Perfect for a Sunday family dinner
Tess Alexander
We absolutely LOVE this place! Have been going there for years and the food is always outstanding, as is the customer service. My #1 choice for main is the Chicken Scaloppine Di Pollo... its seriously life changing! Other favourites are the eye fillet steak and the linguine alla marinara. And as for desert I will always go for the creme brulee. We really recommend this place to anyone thinking about dining here.
Ryan Wong
First time dining at Sal Rose in Mt Albert with my beautiful friend, we having gnocchi, pastas and chocolate mousse. The food is amazingly yummy, service is awesome and nice old school style deco but the light in the restaurant a bit too dark... A bit hard to read the menu... Maybe just the area we sitting at but overall 5 stars!!
Maia Churichkova
The lamb ragu pappardelle is absolutely amazing and the pizzas are quite lovely too. The portions are very large but would be nice to have the option of getting something smaller as I often can't finish it all.
Lisa Feek
Amazing Italian food and a high quality of service. Always recommend this restaurant to people I know. They know how to cook a decent steak, the calamari is to die for, and in all honesty I can not fault a single meal on their menue that I have tried. Would always return
Tommy Ocean
Dined here Monday night. Very quiet though good food, service and wine. Really enjoyed the ambient Italian music and general atmosphere. Would recommend to those in the area.

Always a great night out! Family friendly and delish food, but would like to see a bit more tasty sauce and or flavours in the seafood marinara. The desserts are melt in your mouth, which ever one you choose, (the creme brulee is my favrourite) and the pizzas are great, either eating in or take out! It's also great to see they had an authentic itlatian chef? that brought out our food along with very good service, We always pre book, as Sal Rose is always very very busy. It's good to know they usually have a free drink on birthdays if you sign up for their emails, and have 1/2 price pizzas on Mon and Tuesdays!
Sarah Yzendoorn
We came here for my aunts birthday. Two pizzas we ordered, Hawaiian and a tandoori chicken, a beef lasagne and an antipasto platter. The pizzas were a disappointment and lacking in flavour. The so called yoghurt base for the tandoori tasted more less like cardboard. The Hawaiian was plain and uninspiring, with my grandmother comparing it to the likes of pizza Hut who she said had more flavour in the Hawaiian pizzas. The lasagne however was jam packed with meat, and it was clear they had made their own pasta (as expected). The portion was generous and couldn't be finished by one person. The antipasto was also what was expected, nothing surprising about it. I was also pleasantly surprised to see antipodes water on the drinks menu. The gelatos were also worth going back to Sal rose to re-order. The waiter was extremely lovely and accomodating. Would definitely come back, just not for the pizzas.
Fleur Peps
LOVE Sal Rose. We come here regularly for birthday / family dinners. The food is great, always decent portion sizes and amazing flavours. I like the wine / dessert selection and the fact that several sides can be ordered to make a main consisting of several dishes. All reasonably priced. Will continue to come here as it's always great! Thanks Sal Rose :D
Anna Brylevskaya
Unfortunately food is below average. Pizza tasted as it was from the supermarket, pasta overcooked. However, dessert was pretty good, as well as the wine, but from my point of view a little bit overpriced. What I liked the most was service. Stuff were very friendly and attentive.

BRAVO David! Your staff have once again bowled us over with the above par customer service for another year of my birthday celebrations. Compliments to your chef for the mama-MIA pizza(s) n seriously-to-die-for desserts (bloody hard to share the pizza)

Guests luved it and the ones from Oteha valley have promised to return for your meals & restaurant ambiance. Cheers for the complimentary dessert. Looking 4ward to seeing you & your team for the upcoming ABs vs England Game. IF only there was a 10 star rating unfortunately have to settle for 5 stars :)

This is a heart-felt massive thank you to owner David, his team manager Rayhaan n our Martie-d Rachel. After reading the reviews i was somewhat apprehensive booking my birthday dinner here but the location was central for many of my guests .WOW what a night! We received impeccable customer service from both team members. Rachel - Thank you for your attentiveness, your cheerful smile at putting my guests to ease & describing the mains without breaking a stride. From the moment we were seated, to the finale of the night, your service was VA, VA, VOOM gal.

I was amazed as to how smoothly you ran the show, getting mains, drinks & desserts for 10+ guests at the same time is no easy feat, esp. with the oohing & aahing carry-on. Sadly that's what happens when you have more women then men at the table. Thank you for putting a massive smile on my dear Italian friend's face when u served 'Affogato dessert with Nocello liquer.' the look of absolute delight on her face said it all, she mentioned it was exactly how their served it back in Italy & it brought home a lot of memories. :)

The evening far surpassed what we imagined in terms of customer service.

Rayhaan, your customer service delivery as a FOH manager, blew me away. You're the first manager, I have encountered who had a genuine smile, greeted my guests as we entered in bucketing thunderstorm rainy night. Being at the tills, ensuring our orders were processed smoothly. I cannot rave enough about how impressed we were & how much it meant to have a group of nearest and dearest help me celebrate another milestone.

SAL ROSE not only did you deliver, we are definitely coming back. Thank you for making my evening xtra special & the complimentary dessert for my birthday :)
Sarah Andrews
Went here for mothers day dinner. Food was great, all very happy with the meals and drinks. Waitress was friendly and even asked how mothers day was going. Suprisingly service didnt take too long even though the resturant appeared to be fully booked. Will be back again :)
Rowena Smith
Very disappointing service!
We booked a table for 8:30 and all went well until the waitresses started leaving at 9pm. Once our entree was finished our entree plates and empty wine glass sat on our table for 45 minutes until I took them up to the bar myself and asked for a glass of wine.
No apology from the manager, no discount and no attempt to repair the situation.
James Whyte
Great atmosphere, Good layout, Friendly staff.

Dining for two, Ordered the Eye Fillet and the Spaghetti Ragu with a side of meatballs, Duck confit ravioli and special flat bread for starters with the platter for desert.

The eye fillet was what you expected i found the mushroom ragu lacked a little on the flavor and seasoning side however the steak was cooked perfectly.

The Spaghetti Ragu was the star. the short rib used was melt in the mouth and the flavors complimented each other perfectly and was a nice large serve.

The starter duck ravioli was quite confusing flavour wise having quite a high acidic value from the sauce which really over powered the duck which seemed a little over done i would recommend a lighter sauce to accompany the ravioli however the flat bread was cooked to perfection and tasted fresh and seasonal.

The desert platter was a nice way to be introduced to the deserts offered at Sal Rose, While i was not much of a fan of the Tiramisu being a little dry and flavorless the brownie was moist chocolatey with a good crunch and the creme brulee was one of the best i have had. perfect crack on the top rich and creamy on the inside.

The wait staff were a little ... under busy as i see on the other reviews. They spent a lot of time walking back and forwards a tad aimlessly however they were very friendly and well mannered i think perhaps on quieter times they would be in need of something else to do.

My rating - 4/5 - Great good, Good wait staff, A couple strange executions however the flavors were there and the atmosphere with the pictures gives you a really nice homely feeling and it was quite enjoyable.
Robert Perry
2014: Has taken a downward turn since my 2013 visits and comments below ~ both food and service Still good but a shadow of what it was.

2013: Really like this place - real hearty American-Italian style food. The vegetarian lasagne is to die for - thinking of it now is making me feel hungry!

Decor is fun but perhaps more privacy in the 'booths' would be nice? The desserts are pleasant enough, and the Italian language lessons in the bathroom are a nice touch.
AA Aa
LOVE it, this is my favourite place to eat. Been here plenty of times and every time has been really good. Definitely five stars. The beer selection is nice too, and all the meals I’ve tried have been delicious
Debs
Wow! Delicious pizza! They offer gluten free pizza bases which are up there with the best in Auckland. My husband who's not gluten free had a regular pizza and was impressed also. Loved the atmosphere... casual dining set up with comfy booth seat option...I would definitely go back. Loved my Tuscan red wine too.

I was staying in Auckland for a few days with a friend who took me to Sal Rose for a late birthday dinner. I have been there with him a few times before and always found it ok, although often a bit rushed. This time, though, we were very disappointed with the whole evening. The wine arrived in a large glass with a small amount in the bottom - I'm sure less than the standard 150ml glass. The caramelised onion pizza bread was delicious. My pork belly was ok, a little stringy, but I ate it. My friend's pollo alla capri had a sauce that tasted rotten oranges. He has often had the same meal and always enjoyed it, but this was not enjoyable at all. When we told the waiter about the horrible sauce he said he would speak to the manager and see if anything could be arranged and then pointedly ignored us for the rest of our meal! My friend eventually just ate the chicken, as the risotto was inedible with the horrible sauce all through it. We mentioned it again to the cashier who, after first of all trying to get us to pay the whole bill, then took the price of the drinks off. It was an altogether unenjoyable evening and I most definitely will not be going to Sal Rose again.
Jamie Stone
I was going to delete this after they noticed it but then they emailed me basically telling me off for not talking to them on the night and requesting I come in and discuss it over a drink! . I HAD voiced my disappointment on the night - the bartender just laughed at me….

After coming to this restaurant often over the last five years we have decided this was our last time. The pizza we had (caprese) was bland, sparse and extremely overpriced. A token scattering of fresh basil on top of a heavy dose if dried herbs. Also a disappointing amount of fresh mozzarella. It was dry. Worst pizza ever. The best pizza I ever had was the same type so...
Service is fine and the wine is great. Decor is pretty dated and the selection of cheesy jazz is annoying. The extravagant kids packs don't really compensate. Ciao Sal Rose!
David Boshier
We headed along on a Tuesday night and Sal Rose only had a few full table so there was no need to book.

Service was very good and the meals arrived quickly.

My Tortellini ripieni ai carciofi was ok but I found the lemon within the sauce to be too strong. The Parmigiana di melanzane which my partner had was fine.

There is parking at the door, however I would not travel too far to find this place.
Helle
The best pizza in Auckland !
Okay I am biased as its also our "local" but the pizza's are the best I have ever had.
Don't get to dine in as often as we like, but the takeaway pizza is a hit ! Hot and delicious and so full of flavor.
Top marks
Neil Dawson
What can I say the food was wonderful. Breads to start. There specialty bread was awesome. I can't remember what it was called but it was like a small pizza. Lovely. Unfortunately we had a new waiter who was just learning (nice guy though) and mucked up my starter so it arrived after my main and I was full then so I didn't get to try. However the 2 pizzas and the 2 pastas we ordered were delicious. In fact I would say the pizza I had was up there with the best I have had. Will definitely be going back.
Sarah
We have to been to Sal Rose a few times now. I'm gluten intolerant, and went to this place after hearing they offered gluten free pizza and pasta. It's really nice having a place I can eat at :)

Went there last night, the food was amazing as always. I had one of their gluten free pastas, it was so really really good. The stand out thing about this place is the service. There is one waiter in particular that has remembered us from the beggining and he is exceptionally welcoming, accomodating and friendly. We dine out every friday and I would hands down say he is the best waiter I have met in Auckland.

We will definitely be back again and again and again.
Sam Davies
I've eaten here about haf a dozen times, great atmosphere, good service, nice wine list.
Pasts and pizzas are fantastic, highly recommended.
The mains however are a little so so, otherwise would definitely be a 5/5.
Sarah
I went there with a good sized group last week and we all loved our food. I have been there a few times before and recommended Sal Rose to friends because of the great experiences in the past. My favourite item is the beef rib- delicious! But pasta, pizza and other mains are all good too. Good sized meals and the staff will even put the rest of your pizza etc in container for you to take home. The meals are a bit pricey for a suburban restaurant but offer reasonable value. Service on this occasion was not as polished as other times; for example, a number of drinks orders were brought out incorrectly.
Richard Wong
Love the food and the atomsphere there.
Service is quite good. Price is reasonable too.
Really love their pizza. But the steak was a bit disappointing
Whitney2011
Food - very tasty. Good wine. I have yet to taste a better fettuccine pollo dish in Auckland.

Service - Good. A bit too fast perhaps?

Atmosphere - OK. Could have been better. Seating arrangements are not ideal for privacy.
Siobhan
Quaint little place in Mt Albert. We enjoyed their pizzas and the pumpkin ravioli
Alix McEntegart
Went there on a sunday night after it has been recommended to me by many of my friends. It's so good to have a local restaurant that is so top notch! The food is great: I thoroughly enjoyed the pane (bread) entree and my pasta. Wines are very decent, the only thing that disappointed was the dessert - I think it could be brought up to a higher standard. The waiter was friendly and helpful but could have chatted a bit more, given that we were casual diners. All in all, I would recommend it and will be returning!
Sandy
I normally love Sal Rose and have been going for many years, however Sunday nights is not the best night. My Hapuka was overcooked and the risotto was so salty that it was inedible. Our waiter for the night didnt do much at all besides clean up behind the counter, I had to call for service, we werent asked how our meals were either. We were given the dessert menus - we were ready and waitng to order but our waiter never came, he was busy cleaning behind the counter, so we left dissapointed. On the up side the menu and the wine menu is wonderful, maybe just dont go on Sundays.
Sara Salman
This was my second visit to the place, the food as great again and although we didn't book they still found us a seat after a drink at the bar. The only prob was... although the business had died out by the time we were eating, we still felt a bit rushed by the waitress. The side we sat on looked a bit tacky too and it was a tad cold even though we were dressed appropriately. All in all great food so can't complaint.
Jack T
Dined there last night after finding out owner was tv host, the kitchen job. Was top notch. Worth a try if you are in the vicinity. Was very impressed. Class A service!
Tsau
All best memories of mine would be left here, with its nice owner, Mr. Palino. A place worthy of you coming...
Tim Page
Pleasant staff, responsive service, great food - especially the Pizzas! Good for kids, and a reasonable price too. Our choice of restaurant. Thanks for setting up a decent restaurant in our neighbourhood.
Sarah
Love this place! The staff are always courteous and helpful even when the place is packed. The food is excellent, tasty pasta dishes, awesome pizza and lovely wine and the vegetarian options are quite nice as well. Unlike the above reviewer (were they at the right restaurant?) I find the desserts to always be a slight let down, but everything else is so delicious how can I complain?
The atmosphere is wonderful, too; a nice place for a date.

Nice busy atmosphere, pleasant staff, rushed service and terrible food. We had a three course meal and were in there for less than 50 minutes; it kind of felt like fast food.

My date and I had pasta and it was bland and unappealing, we had trouble forcing it down. Dessert however was excellent, so overall it's a nice place to grab some Tiramisu and a drink if you're in a rush. Don't bother if you're after decent Italian, you won't find it here.

Over rated, food ok but overpriced, service often average

Sal Rose is a local favourite, with just the right amount of atmosphere and good food to ensure your night is pleasant, yet stil relaxed. It is not quite central enough to be granted the privilege of very well dressed patrons - a nice clean shirt and pants or skirt will do just fine. This makes it, shall we say, a bit more approachable and possible more frequented than it would be closer to town.

Very much a local restaurant, easy nice dining atmosphere. Every one there is quite lovely, if you are from the area you may even run into someone (or even two someones) that you know - its that kind of a place. Nice and quiet though - it still maintains its position as a proper italian restuarant. A large enough menu, though I do lament the lack of lasagne - the ragu I ordered to fill this void just didn't quite cut it. i particularly like the starter bread, garlic and oil in particular, nothing like good bread and olive oil to put you at ease.

While I have toyed with various options from the mains menu, I always inevitably revert back to the pizza list - and a plain margharita pizza generally does the trick. While plain, Sal Rose gives it just the right italian kick, and I enjoy my meal every time. What can I say? I like good, basic meals. The tandoori chicken I have on good authority is also very good.

Their lemoncello cocktail is delicious! Definitely splurg on their drinks menu to your hearts content! Some good and satisfying options on their dessert list, particularly their chocolate mousse (YUM!) but I must say they are quite expensive --- $11 for a cup of mousse? A bit over the top. Easy parking. There is a second floor for hire functions if you so desire.
