Review Welcome Eatery - Auckland Central

Nice place for a coffee and some nice food also served here. Good hospitality. They also have a 20% discount on select food and coffees. Good place to have a small get togather also... Tip: Ask for tissues if you take away food with you. Clean bathrooms.

Came down for lunch and a few drinks. We grabbed a table and menus after waiting a bit not being directed. We then ordered at the counter. They have cabinet food and specials on top of the menu items. I had the special of the day which was a pappardelle with chorizo and blue cheese. The pasta was nicely made and the flavour was quite nice because the blue cheese wasn't overpowering everything. The chorizo tasted more like a sausage to me. The walnuts gave it some flavour and crunch. I also grabbed a hot chocolate to try their homemade marshmallow but it didn't even come with one. When we asked we got a few small marshmallows drizzled in chocolate instead. The food is quite nice and the dining area is very spacious and has quite a lot of seating.

Superb breakfast menu and super friendly service. Great ham and cheese, coffee is fun sized. But overall the best cafe in the area.

Friendly staff and manager! Loved the daily special - spaghetti and meatballs :) Desserts look amazing too :D

Great coffee and cabinet food

Beautiful place, yummy food, clean restrooms and pleasant hosts.

Very nice cashier served us, good vibes with some view to the street. We only stayed for some coffee and a muffin but it was just what we needed

Restaurant worthy menu from at a cafe. Great coffee and the service is great.

Great little cafe! Had THE BEST Caesar’s salad here recently where the anchovies were blended IN THE DRESSING, and the croutons were homemade amazing 🌟 I keep thinking about it... will have to come back over the harbour bridge more often to enjoy again. And the service was really good too.. had a newbie on who stuffed up A LITTLE, but they offered me a complimentary doughnut or slice! I declined, but after eating the amazing salad, I regretted it - could possibly have been the best thing ever!

They've nailed the essentials here. The coffee is good, the food is good with some interesting ideas, and there's plenty of seats both inside and out. Outside has no cover so not suitable for a rainy or sunny day. The food is a bit pricey here but it's a nice place to grab a coffee and work if that's what you're looking for (free WiFi available).

High ceilings, big windows that open to let in the warmth of summer, enthusiastic knowledgeable, friendly staff. Somehow Welcome always tempts me to try something new. I'm yet to be disappointed. If you enjoy having coffee and yummy bites prepared and served by people who love good food as much as you do, put an hour aside for a lunch at Welcome.

Service is fantastic, even if you are only in for a coffee. The menu is frequently changed according to the seasons and always has a great selection. Delicious food and consistently good coffee.

Their coffee makes my day! I get my usual "flat white with cinnamon on top" here every morning since my workplace is just across the road. The staff are friendly as well. The place is neat and cozy.
Yummy Auckland
Delicious, creative and healthy menu; great coffee and friendly service! It's just up the road from the new Les Mills gym, which makes it the perfect post-workout stop. A great find in an area that is otherwise low on notable eateries!

Welcome is a great spot for a weekday break. The staff is friendly and attentive. At present it caters more to workers but this will change as more apartment dwellers move into the area. It’s a pity Welcome is not open in the weekend.

This cafe stands on its own - it doesn’t need the Orion guys upstairs to keep it busy. Tasty food, very friendly service, and their cabinet food is takeaway (great for when you need to eat lunch at your desk).

Initially, I was like pfft, salad and sandwiches? And now I'm like, ooh salad and sandwiches! I was also like, who eats soup for lunch? And now I'm wow the soup today is cauliflower, yum. Great staff, great food and coffee. They only open office hours though so you can't probably take your friends on the weekends. And lunch is very busy, because there's a lot of people who come here.
Damien Stringer
Some of the most consistently great coffee I've found in Auckland. Menu and cabinet food have followed suit. I've never been disappointed at Welcome.

After a change of venue work wise, I have been on the hunt for my new work coffee spot. Honestly didn't have to venture far before finding this gem. Been here multiple times now and the coffee and service is faultless. 10/10.

Had coffee here today. A big, bright and spacious place, lots of seating, nice decor. They serve Supreme coffee so you know it's good. Coffee was big, hot, and came quickly. Great spot for a work/uni break or to get some work done. Only downside today was that the music was a bit loud, which made it tricky to focus. But, coffee was much needed and very good. I'm now fully caffeinated and ready for the rest of the day. Would come back to try the food and more coffee.

Awesome cafe just down the road from work. I came here for the first time yesterday and the set up and staff were really great.

I ordered the beef lasagne which was good (wouldn’t say it was a real lasagne ) . Plus was that there was plenty of cheese ! Will be back to try some other dishes soon

My friend and I thought we would try this Cafe out for lunch. The first thing we realised is that there is no ramp to get up to the Cafe (she has a baby in a stroller), so she had to struggle up the stairs herself. Then inside we asked for a high chair and were informed that they didn't have any. I guess maybe the target consumer is business people, but we are unlikely to return because of these things.

The drinks (cold sweet milky coffee & berry smoothie) were good. And we got the caesar salad and prawn po'boy from the cabinet which were both nice. Would've been a higher rating if it was all little bit more child friendly

Sometimes we wished we worked on Grafton Road — imagine the lunchtime strolls in the Domain, Ceremony Burgers and — to our recent discovery — the Welcome Eatery. Think wide open spaces, charcoal paint with warm wood and plenty of greenery. We adored their patterned ceramic plates and intriguing menu of lamb koftas, kumara-noodle laksas and vanilla ricotta quesadillas. The spacious seating options also make it a popular meeting spaces for corporates and students alike. A welcome eatery this is, indeed!
Check out our individual food reviews here: Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/welcome-eatery

Pros:

The first impression I have by walking into this cafe is "neat". I like the tidy and modern ambiances, no dazzling disruptions. Customers can see the kitchen which looks rather clean and professional.

They have four different salads every day which is super healthy and tasty. If you're not super hungry, a medium plate of salads can pretty much fill you up which only costs $7.
Big, big recommend for their chicken burritos, chicken bagels and pulled pork sandwich.

I used to hate cabinet food in cafes because they're usually not seriously cooked, right now I come to Welcome Eatery every week.

The coffees also taste pretty above the average.

Cons:

The breakfast burritos taste quite bland and boring, it's usually the last thing left in the cabinet.

I ordered hot chocolate once and waited for almost 30 minutes when the place was not very packed.

I went to a Welcome Eatery today !! Faultless in every way .. Fabulous food , service and velvety smooth coffee ... Cannot wait to go back !!
Rebecca

Those working in the area are lucky to call this weekday eatery their local. Come here for wholesome food with plenty of flavour. The chilli beef is served on top of an abundant salad of vermicelli and crunchy veggies. Once inside, you forget the cafe is housed in an office building. Nice to stay and linger.

Worst service I have ever encountered! I'm giving this cafe a 1 rating for the food only as it is usually quite good. Staff are usually too interested in their own conversations to serve and usually have to wait a considerable amount of time for simple coffee orders. I simply won't give this place any more of my money or time even though it's handy to work. I'd rather walk to Symonds St, Park St or drive to Mt Eden to get my food etc. I've heard of people giving feedback to the managers and receiving only excuses or hostility so no point in wasting time there.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Located inside Orion Health in Grafton and a few minutes walk from Auckland Hospital, Welcome Eatery is one of those eateries that are only open from Monday to Friday. Perfect for nine-to-fivers, but unfortunately not ideal for people who are based out of the CBD. Lucky for me, I was working out of Grafton one morning and made it in time for lunch before their kitchen closes at 2PM.

Christ this palace is a must if I could rate them a 10+ I would! The food has to be up there with Depot, absolute heaven! ,service is great, venue is industrial savvy! My pork bun sandwich was off the faaaaaarkn chain same for the lamb salad!

Hit this place up you will not be disappointed!
This fab new eatery at the bottom of the Orion office building is a must visit. I love the clean line scandi style fit out and the menu is pretty amazing too! I had the cubano sandwich and my friend had the lamb salad both were amazing. In fact my friend made a comment if anything the lamb salad had too much lamb, which if that's the worst thing you can say it's a pretty good meal!

Really enjoy Welcome. Friendly service. Small lunch menu but what they do is usually top notch. Caesar salad is a favorite but often sells out. Good mix of hot dishes and cold, be sure to check the cabinet before sitting down as those items aren't listed on the menu.

Excellent service, great food and lovely, modern interior
Always greeted in such a nice way- hence why its called welcome!
Their menu changes seasonally and its perfect every time
My personal favourites are their summer bowls and their winter porridges
Its in a quite random location but worth the visit!

I joined two friends for lunch at Welcome. We were greeted promptly by a super friendly waiter, who brought us menus and water. He menu was very limited (not the menu shown) and very little was appealing. I also struggled to choose from the cabinet food, not really a much choice. I settled on a breakfast burrito, which are usually my favourite! Unfortunately it lacked flavour and only had about 10 blackbeans in it. I also ordered a latte, which was well made but came in such a small cup!
Loved the open and industrial vibes of the place but if the menu doesnt change dont think ill be returning. Service was top notch

This place was not at all what i expected from a ‘corporate’ cafe inside of a corporate complex. It was open and airy with polished concrete floors, light wood, and indoor plants. I met a colleague here for lunch and felt it was an excellent atmosphere for either a lunch meeting or a casual daytime catch-up. The service was good, waiters were dressed in smart casual clothing and were attentive without being intrusive. I liked that the food was light and healthy, with some interesting items on the menu that you don’t see every day… I had the Avocado Smash and it hit the spot! Sarah Forsyth #g4

The menu on zomato is out of date unfortunately. However the new menu is deliciously wintery. I had the pumpkin salad with haloumi, and my friend had the soup and green juice. Lovely interior, lots of space and so privacy to chat. The food was exceptional quality. The only things I would say is that the breakfast menu and lunch menu are split, you can't order past a certain time, and each menu is only 5 items. However the cafe is in the Orion building and likely isn't aiming to cater to a vast public demographic. A few more options would really excite me because everything on the menu is so good and I'd love to see what else they could come up with!

First off, gorgeous interior. One of my favourite places I've been based on looks. Inside is huge, bright, and modern! With lots of seating for bigger groups. I instantly liked it. I was also impressed by the service. They were very attentive but didn't give off a vibe that made you feel uncomfortable or encroached on.

The menu for breakfast and lunch is on the smaller side, but everything on it sounded delicious. I liked that throughout the menu they used a lot of fresh seasonal ingredients. Thumbs up! I chose the porridge and raw cocoa smoothie. My porridge was tasty, nothing special, but perfect for a miserable morning weather wise. The crumble was very sweet but good nonetheless. For me both the smoothies lacked flavour, but my sister liked them so I guess that's down to personal taste.

Gorgeous interior, good food, and good people :)

Situated in the Orion Health building on the Khyber Pass end of Grafton Road, Welcome Eatery is a fresh and airy cafe with a cool, calm and collected vibe. It’s a cafe that’s fancy enough to be on the ground floor of a major health software company and yet completely lacks the exclusive vibe you sometimes get when venturing in to office place cafes as an outsider. Rather, the staff make you feel perfectly at home, chatty but not too personal and knowledgeable about who they are and what they sell. Any cafe where the staff can suggest you something off the menu and you actually enjoy it gets a big tick from me.

This friendly persona translates smoothly from the cafe to their social spaces. On Facebook it’s an endless stream of seriously attractive looking meals (the head chef is Mark McAllister, formerly of The Oyster Inn) while on Twitter, they’re just as friendly as they are in person.

Their mantra is fast, fresh, friendly. And while I reckon they could be a tiny bit faster, my only real critiques is that they’re not open weekends and they’re a mission to get to from my work.

Their cold sweet and milky coffee is freaking sublime and the Philly Cheese Steak? PHWOAH.

They’re the bomb.

If you're interested, Welcome Eatery is one of my favourite places for good service in Auckland. To see my other faves, check out my blog (or my Zomato reviews!)

This place has a lovely simple plain layout for a cafe and its this simplicity that makes the venue. Amazing service and great quality food. The recipes are well thought out and what you would want for your money is all there!

I love Welcome Eatery!!

The coffee is always perfect and they have heaps of changing cabinet food. There are always healthy options (salads, muesli cups etc), as well as sandwiches, baked goods etc. The menu is seasonal and every dish is really well thought out.

My favourite is the superbowl- it has chia, nut clusters, fruit, coconut yogurt etc, it's so good! I also love the rawtella/cocoa smoothie.

It's an awesome open space and gets morning sun so always warm. The staff are super nice and always helpful. My ONLY problem with this place is that it isn't open weekends!

Looks can be deceiving...the chic and modern interior took me by surprise and the atmosphere as soon as you walk in is most 'welcoming.
The staff were extremely friendly and the menu easy to follow! Very highly commendable as a relatively new outlet and has ample potential for future growth!

I recently visited Welcome Eatery after a friends suggestion. From the outside, you would think its more of a corporate cafe, however the inside is modern and airy.

The decor showcases polished concrete floors, with wooden tables. Seats are comfortable, with either individual tables, couch seats and bar seats.

The team are friendly and you are welcomed as you enter the door. There is table service (which i really like), if its a cafe where there are servers then you shouldn't have to order at a counter unless your doing takeaway.

We ordered the Smashed Avocado, Lamb Salad and Cocoa Smoothies. The food was really tasty and efficient considering thats newly opened. I recommend the Avocado stack for someone who isn't overly hungry, as the portion size isn't large, however the bread was def very tasty. Other deli items are on offer to takeaway, all of which were quite appetising. The only issue I have is the price for smoothies in Auckland. $8 for a smoothie..Do we think this stacks up to value for what you get? Is this because everyone is following this new trend? Although the Avocado stack was healthy and tasty, i think it was a tad overpriced for its true value. It could be improved through maybe another slice of bread.

This cafe gets the tick for service and food. I really like how healthy free range and organic food is becoming more influenced in Auckland.

Rating:
Food: 7.5/10
Service: 8/10
Value for Money: Good

My sister and I went for a quick lunch at Welcome today as it is just up the road from my office.

This cafe is part of the Orion building and there were lots of workers here, some with open laptops. The large tables would be great to spread out and work on when they are less busy. I tend to forget there are so many businesses in the area because there isn’t much foot traffic.

We were welcomed very warmly by the staff who were lovely but it felt a little over familiar. We browsed the cabinet food and were encouraged to sit anywhere. We took a seat at one end of one of their long tables. The space is large and the tables quite spread out. It feels a bit like everything could move shifted closer together and forward and a bunch of couches parked in the back. That’s what I would do anyway.

I had the Cocoa smoothie which had all sorts of good stuff in it and was thick and delicious. Not too sweet and full of flavour. My sister had a soy flat white and the polenta with bean ragu and goats cheese. I opted for the braised beef cheek sandwich. The sandwich was a massive toasted bun and came with 3 chunky kumara chips. It was a challenge but I ate all of it. It was too delicious to leave a crumb behind. The beef cheek was tender and flavourful with the perfect amount of sauce and salad. Highly recommended.

The food took a little while to arrive, but they have cabinet food if you are in a hurry. The food was well priced for the quality and quantity and there are many healthy options. The presentation is gorgeous (if you appreciate these kinds of things...as we did) so it's good enough to take someone who you want to impress to. It was great to see that they use free range eggs, chicken and pork. The complimentary water is sparkling. Another nice touch.

I would come back for the food, the attentive service and even the slightly too enthusiastic but friendly staff. A great place to meet clients or grab a nourishing lunch.

Edit: I've since been back to Welcome twice. The rawtella bagel is delicious and very filling. The salads are delicious and great value for $10. A huge portion – I couldn't even finish my salad!
