Review Rockefeller Oyster Bar - Auckland Central

Great place to stop by for half priced oysters on Tuesdays! Their tapas style dishes are decent too! Service was a tad slow given there are only two working in the whole restaurant. Otherwise everything was great! Check out @instantonium on Instagram for more great eats

Really yummy food #best oysters ever! so plump and juicy.. staff are really nice and friendly. Everything is made with love and care and you can taste the freshness in the dishes I went there with a grabone voucher but I would be more then happy to return and pay full price. The food is that good..

Great food and wine. Must try "Member of the board"

Went for drinks and snack today. Its a great little place. Food was delightful (we had deepfried chicken bits and soft shell crab sliders) both were cooked perfectly.
Courtney Sit
Beautiful fresh oysters and great wine list. I picked the Spaghetti Vongole which was delicious but would have likes a bit more chilli.

Neat place. Limited menu even though we came for oysters. Shucked Orata and Clevedon on the menu today. Warm olives are clever and tasty with the rosemary and zest. Friendly served. A bit pricey too.

Amazing record collection. Owners clearly have fine taste in decor, food, music and wine. A sexy wee after work hang

Half price today, but the oysters were goood. A vinegarette that was amazing! Sweet but still acidic. Would trade again

Nice place and great food. The music a bit load or perhaps it is the acoustic of the place with such high ceiling.

Beautiful food, great service and low key stylish decor.

Great sashimi and oyster selection, super tasty.
Brian King

Awesome customer service! Duck fat fries are to die for! Will def be back! Seafood beautifully prepared and cared for in the process. Can't believe I hadn't visited earlier. My partner and I were very impressed!

Bought grabone voucher and picked Tuesday today for the $2 raw oyster. The waiter didn't inform me when I ordering the raw oyster. I ended up paying $4.8/each for the oyster. If I knew the voucher can't be used together with $2 raw oyster, then I won't order raw one. I would have cooked ones.
Further more, the salmon tartar, is not available. ItLucia @ makes the grabone voucher only saved $2 comparing with normal ordering. And because using voucher, I couldn't save on oyster. Actually I lost $20.
I won't suggest anyone to this cheating restaurant.

Really average experience. Terrible wine, off pace service and generally would not recommend. Not to mention the place actually smelt like it needed a good clean. We didn’t get to try the oysters as supposedly they weren’t available at the special price they were advertised at. Twenty minutes later the waiter had informed us they were in fact on special but by then we had finished our drinks and were keen to call it a night after such an average experience. Would not go back.

This Place is excellent! Great food standards and reasonable prices for the food. The oysters were very fresh and the seasoning ie. vinegar and sea salt enhanced the flavours a lot. We also ordered the Rockefeller chips and they were really great! My only complaint was that they were served with ketchup which is not needed when there is mustard aioli. Overall 10/10.

Went for early dinner one night, the food was great so was the service. The location is not very good though. Recommend their chicken, it was perfect

Are these chefs good or what! It's been an incredible dining experience with such gourmet dishes that won't disappoint you at slightest. Cool staff and their awesome services. I'm surprised not many feedbacks have come up with these guys.
We had:
a glass of Gustave Lorentz Pinot Gris,
2 raw oysters,
Rockefeller fries(truffle oil aioli sauce and fried in duck fat!!),
3 sheets to the wind(scallops)
a small platter of Member of the Board( fish)
and a beef taretare (see photos)

Such a classic interior and upmarket atmosphere and food you won't want to miss especially if you're a seafoodie. Try them and you won't regret'em.
What a surprise not seeing any other customers at lunch at Rockefeller on a Wednesday. We started with a dozen of Kilpatrick & Rockefeller oysters - very nice; could be better if the oysters were in season. We had tartare beef & a couple of slurgers (one with crispy soft shell crab & one with battered fish) - again, very nice indeed. We shall return for its interesting dinner menu.(Food - 4/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

Best oyster sauce in Auckland!!!!!!!!!!

Oysters are pricey but they have sales every now and then... and then use their oyster sauce that looks like a mini tequila bottle.. it's by far the best sauce in Auckland!!!!!!

Environment: 3.5/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Quantity: 4/5
Oyster sauce: 5/5
Service: 3/5
Price $30-$40pp

The raw oysters are amazing. Some of the best I've had. I rate the Oysters a 5.0. I also really enjoyed the Wasabi Tempura Oysters. There wasn't much on the menu to the liking of my partner that doesn't like seafood nor does he like fancy food (he has lots of migraine triggers so likes to play it safe), so he took me here and watched me eat oysters. It was pretty awesome. Service was good.

Because of the fact that I use the Kauri Building (where Rockefeller is located) as my through-site link to get to work (the lift always smells so good with those wooden floors), I thought it was best that I finally try out this fine establishment. The interior is classically well designed, and they've got a real upmarket vive. I tried the N o 4 Beer Battered Fish & Chips, my friend had The Flaming Nigiri, and we had a simple side salad to share. I just wasn't all that thrilled by the fish - it just didn't seem to fit the special vibe of the place, more 'pub' quality. Felt quite let down by this. The chips were well cooked and very crunchy, so they made for a nice accompaniment. The salad was fresh, light and flavoursome. Rockefeller is known for their oysters so perhaps I need to come back one Friday evening for these, but stay clear of their Fish - it's not worth the $25 price tag.

I tried here for my birthday dinner and I had a horrible customer service experience. Wasn't attended to for the first 20min since the arrival, although we had a reservation. All staff made me felt very unwelcome and ignored. When I finally got attention of one staff, I told him I booked a table, so he said he was going to check for me, and then somehow he decided to clean tables and back into the kitchen to do the dishes, never came back to me. While I was standing around waiting, I told the staff I wasn't getting attended to 3 times but nothing changed so I decided to leave and instead went to Depot Oyster bar this time.

Staff were great, the Slurger (cross between a burger and a slider) was great, loved the crispy onion. Decor a little unusual, seemed a bit stark, needs to be warmed up (was also a little cold on a wet rainy winters evening).

Love the concept and will come back for some bluffies.

My GF loves oysters so we went here before a ballet show for some oysters and wine.

The place is on a busy street with a carpark right next to it. The decor reminds you of a NY restaurant so apt name I guess.

It was completely empty so I was sceptical. Saying that we were pretty early because of the show. The best part of this joint is the guy who runs the front of house. Exceptional service with finesse - just what the place needs.

We had 4 raw bluffs which were so good that we ordered another 4 very quickly. We also had 6 kilpatricks and really nice french pinot gris. Satisfied with the food but it is an expensive treat!

Had the place been full I think the ambience would have been better. Saying that, we certainly enjoyed the luxury of having the whole restaurant to ourselves by the window looking at the city lights and cars drive by.

Definitely coming back especially for the service.

Merci beaucoup!
Oysters are an indulgence, a delicacy and a luxury best appreciated with style on a cold winter's night. Rockefeller is true class and delivers on all fronts. Beautiful fresh oysters, subtle condiments, cosy atmosphere and superb knowlegable service. I would highly recommend the Bluff oysters served au naturel with a glass of the Arthur Metz pinot gris. For all oyster fans I hope you make a pilgrimage here this Bluff season.

How about amazing?!?! Rockefeller never fails. Whether you're there for after work drinks or want to indulge in various champagnes which are finely matched to superbly fresh food, you can't go wrong. Very friendly and highly knowledgeable staff, serving the highest class of food and drink. I can't think of a better place to unwind, any day of the week.

First time in an oyster bar since I'm not really a fan of oysters but that has changed after coming here.

They have a large range of champagne, sparkling wines and other beverages as well as oysters. The staff was quite knowledgeable about the different oysters that they currently had and were going to shuck on order.

We went with a few different types including cooked oysters as well as raw Bluff oysters. We also ordered a few other dishes on top of that.

The the cooked and raw oysters were gorgeous, tasty but not overly salty or oystery. The beef slurger was nice but found the soft shell crab one was a bit hard. The Fried chicken was also quite nice.

Finished the night off with the chocolate nemesis. It was really rich and most of the group thought a couple of bites was enough for them. I could have eaten a whole one since it was quite small, but didn't like the cream that came with it cause it was too sour.

Great wine and champagne selection as you would expect. Don't forget to check the black board for wine choices too. The oysters were outstanding and the sushi plate is a work of art that tastes great.

Love this place - for the freshest Oysters in the city this place has it and then some.
Sit back and relax after a long day in the office with comfy seating, Oysters freshly shucked and seasoned, amazing wines and the finest Champagne list in the country.
Whether it's a special occasion or simply an evening away from the oven this place is superb.

Awesome Korean fried chicken (KFC). Crispy and delicious!

The duck fat chips are honestly the best I've ever had!! So crunchy and crispy, the colour is superbly golden and just delicious.

The 'slurger', burger/slider was yum! Tried the beef one, it was delicious! Great service, very...

Best Chips in Auckland, Thrice cooked. They don't just serve oysters, if you get a chance to have the 'flaming board' it is amazing. Everything on the menu is great, Vongole, Fish and Chips, Steak tartare, Soft shell crab sliders, sashimi and nigiri, seared scallops all freshly sourced. The wine list is also very meticulously selected showing a wide range of NZ and international regions. Not much to fault really.

When Rockefeller calls itself a "champagne / oyster bar" it's not kidding... that is literally all it serves apart from the duck fat fries - which are the highlight for me! Think really thick cut, golden crispy potato wedges/sticks with the most delicious aioli. Other than that, the champagne menu is extensive (one of the best I've seen), the service is great and atmosphere is very sophisticated. Lovely for 'drinks with the girls'.

Rockefeller is a beautiful addition to the Kauri Timber building. The fit out is inviting and luxe - beautiful chandeliers and marble table tops, and the menu is small but considered. The duck fat fries are out of this world - a must! The wine and champagne list is varied - Billecart Salmon is a beautiful champagne and very reasonable by the glass. The service is very attentive and excellent. I've been to Rockefeller many times and will definitely be back!

Great setting, outstanding champagne and excellent oysters and tasting plates. If it wasn't just a little bit out of the way it would be absolutely packed! Knowledgable and friendly staff always helps create a positive impression and when we return to Auckland we'll have to come back. Good selection of tasty oysters from around NZ, a well presented fish plate and the pickled veges goes down very well. Pick a champagne or three and chill out by the window.

For somewhere slightly more specialist this is the place to come. What an amazing selection of wines and champagne up for grabs.
Staff are amazing and so knowledgeable. We were talking chocolate and out came sampling glasses to pair with our chocolate..new suggestions guys. Have chocolate on the menu.
Didn't have any oysters but indulged in the most amazing triple fried wedges. Cooked in duck fat.
The waiter was attentive. Very observant anf noticed empty glasses and knew when to refill. Great decks nearby if you want to spin a few vinyls. Will most defiantly be back.

True to its name, IF you love oysters and a glass of alcoholic beverage, this new addition to town is amazing! They used to only sell oysters but now they have added other lovely seafood to the menu!

Fresh OR cooked... It was delicious. I don't normally like cooked oysters but we had the Rockefeller oysters and this was done perfectly!! Oysters were still juicy and not overcooked. Slurp! And who can resist bacon in the kilpatrick oysters!

Also had their fries and seriously it is something else. Duck fat makes a difference! Prawns and squid and a fresh fish platter to share. AllVery good!

The decor is amazing! With the exposed ceiling beams and funky lights. Record players playing very good music. Ambience was relaxed but still had a sophisticated charm. Friday nights, there is even a DJ to celebrate the weekend.

Service was really good and friendly! Very professional :)

One catch is the price. It's not a place I would be able to afford everyday as an average Aucklander. But totally worth it for a good seafood splurge!

Still, I'll rate it 5 out of 5 for what it is :)
