Review Nite Spice Indian Restaurant - Auckland Central

We ordered biryani. The food was really good. But I don’t like the colour added to the biryani. It was too red in color. The portion size is really good and value for money. There is a great atmosphere. The staff is friendly too. After placing the order it took only about 10minutes to have our order ready.

An awesome place to try Indian recipes in really best and affordable price... 5 star rated for the taste of food, people with service and obvious the ambience. Place where can have delicious dishes with a peace of mind. Suitable arrangements for 30 people birthday, friends parties can accomodate 50 people in occasions. Excellent🫰

This is just an amazing place in the heart of Mt Eden to enjoy exotic and authentic Indian food. Presentation was the icing on the top. The staff were so generous, and I must say I didn't let my kiwi colleagues down when I stated that they would have the best Indian taste in here. It was indeed. That you to the staff to recommend certain things as well. Highly recommended place. 👌

I’d have to say that the food here is the best Indian we have had in Auckland. We tried range of dishes from biryanis, dhal, saag and rogan josh. Everything was cooked to perfection. The food didn’t taste prepared or sugary which is what you get in most other Indian places. Very impressed with the quality and range. Highly recommend this restaurant.

First of all the service here is great. The servers are attentive and genuinely nice. The food was great. We decided to go full vegetarian for dinner. The Paneer Bhurjee with butter naan was the highlight for me on this occasion. We ordered the vegetarian Haka noodles with the gravy version of Paneer 65 for the kids which was very nice as well. The servings are fairly big so I would recommend one main per 3 people. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. I personally like the neon signs. It's a colorful environment which is perfect for the start of a good night out. Again the service was exceptional so full 5 stars awarded here.

Their food taste depicts the name of the restaurant. Amazed by the taste of their chicken lollipops...Must try Best Chicken Methi Malai with garlic naan. Goat biryani is so flavourful and nice. Best customer service add extra notch to their food taste...Will visit again😋

One of the best Indian Chinese food you can find. Being from Mumbai, I can guarantee you 100%

My partner and I enjoyed an amazing dinner here the other night, this is definitely some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Everything was so flavourful + authentic, I especially enjoyed the Samosa Chaat and Chicken Tikka Masala. We got our meals very quickly and the staff here were attentive. They always checked how we were liking the food and genuinely cared. The restaurant itself is super clean and the colourful neon lights make it a cool vibe. Will definitely be back again soon to try out more of their menu!

A++ I recently had the pleasure of dining at an Indian cuisine restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming staff, who were eager to make my dining experience as enjoyable as possible. The ambiance of this restaurant was cozy and inviting, with contemporary decor adorning the walls and soft lighting setting the mood. As I perused the menu, I was impressed by the wide variety of dishes on offer, all of which sounded absolutely mouth-watering. I ultimately decided to go with the chicken fried rice and chicken fry, and I was not disappointed. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the masala sauce was rich. Overall, I had an excellent dining experience at this Indian cuisine restaurant, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious, authentic Indian food.

I ordered Paneer and butter naan 2 days ago. The food was extra delicious, large quantities and we loved it. This is our first time at Taste of India. I really appreciate the hospitality extended to me by Mr Thomas.

EDIT Changing the review to better rating as they did call and listen to our concerns, apologised and assured us of improvement. Acceptance itself is huge! Thank you 6 moths ago I gave them a 5 star review. Deleted tha. How things change! - Pls don’t serve us frozen spring rolls from super market and call them your own creation. It’s not only insulting but also stupidity of chef to thing patrons are clueless - Your Panner chilly is not the same nor is your tandoori platter. We have ordered this few times but there seems to be no consistency - medium Hot is not super hot that can’t enjoy their meal. Consistency is key to any food business. What saves you from zero stars is your fabulous apologetic staff. Buckle up as there are many other options out there.

We were fortunate to get a table at Taste of India - Mt Eden's opening night. It was a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Management and staff are really friendly. Great food and awesome dining experience. Would highly recommend! Welcome to Mount Eden Village!!!

What a vibe this joint is. Got the lamb madras and cheese garlic naan. Was on point. Gravy in that madras I would bath in if given the chance. Had the hectic farts the next day which the wife didn't complain about because so did she! Went with a group of 18 and the food came out so fast I didn't get to finish my first beer. Super friendly staff, will be back again for sure.
Karen
Very nice environment and good customer services from waiters. The food was very tasty. Definitely will come back to try more. Want to suggest the owner to turn off maybe just one or two neon lights outside, as it’s too bright and people can’t properly see through the inside of the restaurant

We ordered takeaway with their free butter naan and rice deal. The price was very reasonable for the portion we got and all curries were very tasty, especially butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. The food arrived very quickly after ordering and was still hot. We especially liked how they were generous with how much meat was in the curry as we often get too much gravy and not enough meat from other places. Will definitely be ordering or dining in from this place in the future.

Always consistently good food, manager happy to chat and great service

Excellent food and excellent service. Quite possibly the best Indian restaurant in the Mount Eden area. Food was cooked very well in authentic Indian style and served in a timely manner. We will certainly be returning again!

Sitara has a good range of food which also available in vegetarian option, their butter chicken always nice! I ordered their curry made out of spinach t’was good, will come back for sure!
John Hamilton-Smith
We came for a walk to the village and we were not disappointed! Sitara had a great menu. We stayed with samosas and fish pakora that were very fresh. We had palak paneer, Goan fish curry and a mushroom speciality dish for the mains and they were very fresh and tasty with perfect spice.

We will recommend Sitara and come back again soon.

Just tried Beef vindaloo in takeaway menu , It was amazing , Gravy is perfect balance of spice n Tanginess . Would definitely visit again for dine in and try the other Indian food in the menu.

Really good food and amazing service. This will be my go to local Indian from now on. Kid friendly and accommodating. Recommend the garlic prawns, chicken tandoori salad and chicken jahangir.

Great place! It has recently been rebranded to Sitara. It was our first having dinner here and both the environment and the food were really good. Great prices as well! We had butter chicken and chicken korma. We would definitely recommend it.
Rohit Bhoge
Food and the ambience was extremely good. I tried the Chicken Jahangir and it was very tasty with the authentic Indian taste. The classical Indian music playing in the background was a cherry on top to the ideal traditional feel.

The lady behind the counter is always so friendly. The food is great, although the menu doesn't desclose the ingredients properly. My son is lactose intolerant, and he ordered the butter chicken. Which specifically asked over the phone to remove the cream. Which never happened because he ended up being sick over the course of the week.

Be aware these reviews are for Nite Spice not Sitara... Recently tried and was very disappointed by the food. We ordered Palak Chicken and Butter Chicken and both were underseasoned and bland. Not what you want from your curry! From what we were told it sounds like there are some teething issues with the chef. The staff were really lovely and offered to remake my Palak Chicken but then it came back with too much for a certain spice (cardamon I think) that made my whole mouth tingle after only a few small tastes. I was told this is the traditional way (and maybe it is) but it was all I could taste and didn't seem well balanced at all to me. I've had Palak and Sagawala beef, chicken and paneer curries at lots of different Indian restaurants and never had it taste like that. I ordered a glass of the shiraz which wasn't a great wine, quite vinegary. I didn't eat my meal and we were still charged for it so it's not likely that we'll return, which is sad as it used to be our favourite local spot.

Nice food. Friendliness of the table service can vary. My daughter had an unpleasant experience recently. She was asked by a waiter if she had finished her main course and before she could answer it was taken away.
Jervis Fernandes
Nice place decor food courtesy parking. Even though Biryani was not part of discount lunch deal the chef obliged with a compromise. Thanks Nite spice.
Jenil Bhakta
Excellent place, nice location in eden village. Must try their special tea which gives quite the authentic feel of India. Also good choice of both veg and non veg options.

Best butter chicken in NZ.... out of, like, 40 restaurants...

Dine-in is a bit cozy for me so I usually do takeaway (almost every day actually. -Great way to get fat.)
Hope they never change the recipe.

(Lamb-Rogan-Josh is good as well, but who cares about not-butterChicken aye.)
Friendly staff, quick service, most of all - excellent tasting food.

Great food and great service. Nice place to go have some good authentic food. Chicken Fenugreek and chilli paneer were the favorite dishes around the table!

Nite spice is by far my favourite restaurant in Mt Eden. Never been disappointed anytime i have dined in or got takeaway. Staff are warm and pleasant offering great service at all times. Food is delicious and genuinely reminds me of my grandmother's cooking from back when i was a child. a go to for my family when we are craving indian cuisine

We used Nite Spice to cater for about 40 people last week. We ordered 5 different dishes and they were all delicious, lots of people commented on how good everything was.
They were easy to deal with and supplied us everything we needed to serve the meal.
Would definitely use them again

Dined in last weekend with my team, as post match celebration. Had an amazing experience. Food was delicious and had a well covered menu, satisfied everyone in the team. All around positive response. Highly recommend this place. Keep up the good work!

As a indian whos very picky on indian restaurants nitespice has now become my go to spot, It really does justice to the traditional indian cuisine with a authentic homely taste. The new owners are wonderful and the staff are very friendly.
Highly recommend the mint kebabs and chicken makhani with spinach naan!

I am studying cookery at NSIA and went to Nite Spice with my fellow classmates for dinner. The restaurant was packed and we were asked to sit at the back. The staff quickly arranged the tables for our group and were very courteous and polite. The manager, Onkar was very attentive to us and was really helpful with our orders. On his suggestions, We ordered tandoori prawns, sizzler platter for two, and tandoori chicken as starters. For mains we ordered lamb roganjosh, lamb masala, chicken tikka masala and kheema naan and cheese and garlic naan. The food came out in reasonable time and the starters were amazing. We were even allowed to watch the chefs in action upon our request. We all were looking forward to our mains as the starters had set the scene for our dinner. Oh man! the curries that came out next were even better than what we expected and we ordered extra gravy to please our appetite. The price, food quality and service were amazing and we liked it so much that we booked our next catch up the following week. All of us have made it a regular place and now even the staff knows what we like to order. Highly recommend this place to all.

After checking the reviews on Zomato I thought I will give this place a try. Thanks to Uber eats, decided to order king prawn masala since it's been a while. Checking another review mentioning they cancelled their order after a long wait, I called the restaurant to check and the gentleman who spoke to me confirmed the order was recieved smoothly (he was very pleasant and warm). So my deal is you have number of prawn dishes, the only reason I ordered the king prawn masala cause I was expecting King prawns otherwise what's the difference between your other prawn recipes and this? The place is overpriced for the portion size, there were seven small shrimp pieces. The curry literally had no taste or flavor,it was more than medium spicy and filled with a lot of onions. I can bet they make a common curry and just add their preferred meat into it depending what people order. Highly disappointed. Definitely not ordering again from here.

The food was beautiful and the price was at its very best! My favourite dish would have to be chicken biryani. Perfect food with alcohol. I will make sure to be drunk here next time!!!

Excellent service, the new owner is lovely to chat to. The food is so nice, I had a mild butter chicken dish and garlic naan, it was all so delicious. It was nice having the relaxing music in the background too. :-) I'll certainly be going back. :-)

My favorite Indian restaurant, full stop. The garlic cheese naan is moist and delicious. And if you order it super spicy the butter chicken has a nice kick.

Being an Indian i like my curries. I have tried many indian restraunts some good and some not so good. Popped into Nite Spice last sunday night and happy to say I found a really nice indian restraunt. Curries were bang on, but what i really liked the most was the spiced mushroom stuffed with paneer cooked in the tandoor oven. Tasted as good as it looked!! Definitely will be back...

The very first time we visited this place was after our friends recommended it. Well they were absolutely correct about the restaurant and the amazing curries they serve. We were greeted with a smile and the service was really good. The food was amazing, we ordered butter chicken and fenugreek chicken and they were made perfect. The new owner lady (Sabina) made us feel at home and is lovely to talk to. She is full of energy and loves what she does and you can see it in the way she conducts and treats every customer. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat great food and appreciates good hospitality.

Food and Flavour: 4/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Seating: 3/5
Service: 4/5
Value for Money: 3.5/5
We ordered for the butter chicken , garlic naan , Dhal Makhani and kebabs. All of them were amazing. No over powering spices nor too much colour added that it stains the fingers for the next 2 days. Very hospitable and good ambience.
Could get really busy during weekends.

Quick Delivery. The food was delicious and arrived promptly. The medium was *actually* medium, which hardly anywhere gets right. Will definitely like new Indian place!

has to be my favourite indian eat out. i have been a couple of times and each time the different curries have exceeded my expectations. never too creamy or sweet. The ambience pulls you in with a humble sweet set of staff ( family business im assuming) and the modest price point is always a plus.

I will give a fair review for this. I went here for dinner. Booked in for 7:45 for 3 course meal. Unfortunately I waited almost an hour every meal. Appetizer was served almost half past 8 and was really greasy. Very disappointed with the appetizer, that I've waited so long. Then the main took another hour or so to come and it was Good, I ordered Chicken Fenugreek in medium spice. I t was really tasty and give some light on my experience in this place. For the dessert, I waited for another 20 mins or so. It was hard served pistachio ice cream which was alright and tasted good.

Visited Nite Spice over the weekend (not for the first time) with my regular expectations of this well renowned curry joint.

Setup:
Parking can be found throughout Mt Eden village (be aware of parking time restrictions). Overall the restaurant has a simple setup with a tables being well spread and plenty of room for larger groups. The rooms are well lit and decor is simple to a point where it creates a slight atmosphere. Upon arrival, I noticed several tables had not been cleared and the table we were seated at had a slightly stained table cloth.

Entrees:
*Seekh Kebabs
*Garlic Prawns
*Tandoori Chicken (half)
*Chilli Chicken (dry)
*Vegetable Manchurian (dry)
*Chicken Lollipop
I have to hand it to Nite Spice, they absolutely smash their entrees!! The Seekh Kebabs were cooked to perfection, moisture was maintained and flavour was fantastic. Dipping sauce for Kebabs had a slightly watery consistency and did not stick well. Prawns are traditionally overcooked by anyone of Indian origin, however Nite Spice cooked and flavoured the Prawns exceptionally well. Tandoori and Lollipop chicken were really flavoursome, not overcooked and the Lollipop Chicken had its traditional crunchy coating. Lollipop had a great dipping sauce as well and Tandoori had the same sauce as the Seekh Kebabs. The Vegetable Manchurian and the Chilli Chicken were the stars out of all the dishes. Both dishes contained intense flavours which were tantalising the taste buds. Our mouths were left watering and desiring more. Thankfully we had enough to go around the tables twice. Both dishes were flavoursome and contained a good portion of finely chopped vegetables. Across all the dishes, spice was well distributed. Almost to perfection and a lovely start to the evening.

Mains:
*Nite Spice Special Curry
*Chefs Special Chicken
*Paneer Makhani
*Tawa Chicken
*Vegetarian Biryani
*Naan (plain and garlic)
For the mains, we decided to order 4 different curries and biryani to accompany them. All four curries were excellent. They all were spiced appropriately and the textures of the curries carried depth and consistency. Chicken amongst the curries were cooked well and not dry. Paneer Makhani wasn't too sweet, which is a good thing and was filled with plentiful paneer. My favourite of the night had to be the Nite Spice Special Curry. The flavours in this curry were so flavoursome that it could leave a person with no taste buds wanting more without being overpowering. The Vegetable Biryani was good but nothing out of the ordinary for me. Finally, the Naan breads were cooked well with nice charring without being burnt.

Service:
We were greeted, seated and served by a young lad by the name of Onkar. He was friendly, attentive and provided polite service. Small little hiccup with providing beers. We asked for a round of Kingfisher beers, which were provided. We then asked for another round and we're told we would have to wait as they had put them in the cool. Also, I asked for a Steinlager Pure and it was brought to my table already poured in a glass. As common practice, I believe that a beverage should always be provided in its factory packaging and glass be provided with it (unless a tap beer is requested). On another note, the lady attending the front counter was a slight bit rude and was quite dull while bringing out some of our food and drinks.

Price:
In my opinion, prices at Nite Spice are reasonable, especially based on the quality and quantity of food you get. Drinks are standard prices compared to other joints.

Overall:
Overall, I'm a big fan of the Nite Spice Mt Eden from this and previous visits. Yes, I wish I could walking into a sparkling clean restaurant but I am understanding of the fact that it's not always easy to get things done as you would like. I would love to have given them a 5.0, but they have been slightly let down by the service, drinks service and cleanliness. My main points of review is about the food and they more than make up for the minor blemishes with their quality of food. I would highly recommend this curry house to everybody looking for top quality Indian food at reasonable prices. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Unfortunately, did not take any photos as we had driven to Taupo during the day and we're exhausted and hungry. Could not be bothered getting photos, will make sure I do next time though.

A friend and I got a voucher off Grabone - $35 for 2 x starters, mains & desserts. We were highly impressed with the friendly service, delicious food and great experience we had here. We weren't expecting much considering how cheap the voucher is but now will definitely return for another meal! The staff were welcoming and always checked how each course was going. The desserts were the highlight for me. We ordered Pistachio Kulfi and Gulab Jamun. They were amazing! I wish I had left more room to fit them in. Overall awesome dining experience. We will be back! :)

Ordered home delivery online for the flat. Placed order at 7:50pm via credit card for $60. Was called by the store at 9:10pm saying they had cancelled my online order, and asked if I wanted to place a new one... I asked what happened to my original order and they said they were too busy at the time so they cancelled it. What business waits for over an hour before telling someone they had cancelled their order and the food will not be arriving! They then asked for my credit card details over the phone should I decide to place a new order which would be an additional 30mins. No apology given. Do not recommend.

Have been to this place alot many times due to their wonderful service and beautiful food to enjoy, lovely yummy butter chicken and lots more👍

Has to be one of the worst indian places i have been to in a long time. The place smells funny, not curry funny, but like musty dusty rancid kind of funny. Walked in and there was no body to greet us, we kept saying hello and no one came. 5 minutes later someone finally appears. Anyhow, there is a very old school feeling to the place (e.g. Look at the napkins), and the walls really need a wipe, there were curry stains next to where i was sitting. We ordered the vindaloo, samoosa and pakora.
Pakora was dense and just not good at all. Samoosa again was very hard (the pasty was unlike any other in a bad way), vindaloo rancid and terrible (tasted like tomato paste that has gone off) even the naan was chewy and full of gee! Basically the best thing we ingested there was the papadum they gave us when we first arrived. We left with a lingering bad taste and we surely dont recommend and wont be back.

We hosted our family's 18th birthday party at Nite Spice recently, and the food and service we received was absolutely fantastic! The staff were very receptive and accommodating to all our needs. No matter what we asked for, they got onto it straight away. No matter how loud we got, or how much we asked for things, the staff did it with a smile. The food was delicious, and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you so so much for the wonderful evening, we had an incredible celebration at your restaurant!

Went to Nite Spice for a birthday lunch and ordered Butter Chicken and garlic naan bread. It tasted delish and I loved the customer service they provided. It had an ambient atmosphere which I enjoyed. Would love to come again.

Food was really really sad. Inedible food. We had to leave only having had starters. The paneer was not cooked at all. The chicken till was flavourless and not cooked. Siddharth Badam Sakshi Kumeri Devyani Chopra Pankaj Balani

We ordered takeaway from here, for delivery so haven't actually been inside. The food was delicious and arrived promptly. The medium was *actually* medium, which hardly anywhere gets right. Will definitely be our new go to Indian place!
Becky D.
Haven't eaten in for a while but often have takeaways from here. Their Rogan Josh is one of the best we've had, the meat dishes have a decent amount of meat, given up on so many where the gravy gets more and the meat less but here it's good and the lamb is so tender with good levels of spice. Two mains, rice and naan bread does the two of us for two meals (the second with a bit of artistic licence in additional vegies and the like) so although for one meal it seems a bit steep for a takeaway not so if we stretch it AND I get away with not cooking for that second night - can't be bad....

Love love this place & miss it since we moved out of Mount Eden. This was a favourite restaurant to both come to dine with family or friends, or to take out. Service is good, I always ask for extra corriander on my curries, & I haven't found a curry I don't like yet. I reccomend the Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken & Tandori Chicken. We usually only went on the Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday as of the $10 special. Cheap & cheerful option for when your on a tight budget. Decor is average, but is comfortable & relaxed seating. Occasionaly they screen a Bollywood movie out the back room. Staff are friendly. I always leave satisfied & full :-)
Elena Ching
A good cheap eat if you're craving a curry. We had lunch here on a Sunday and went for their $10 lunch special - curry, rice, papadum and naan. I tried their butter chicken with medium spice. The butter chicken curry sauce was thick and creamy with a nice hit of spice. There was a good amount of chicken in the portion. The naan was freshly made and delicious. Helpfully, this was cut into four making it easier to manage and use for dipping into the curry.

The restaurant was tidy. Service could have been better. We had to get the waiter's attention to order and get water refilled. That being said, the food came quickly and the waiter was quick once we had gotten his attention.

One thing to note if you're going for the special is if you order lamb, it's an additional $2.
Charlee Pearson
I am a regular here, often come for the $10 dinner special (mon/tues/wed)
They are fairly consistent with their dishes, their naans are very good and their meat in their curries are always on point.
Friendly staff, will stay a regular.
Chloe
I love this place, I come here alot mostly for the $10 lunch special, which is always pleasing. I have however found some of the dinner staff to be not as friendly as the very accommodating lunch staff, maybe its just the madness of the busy dinner rush. Great for party bookings also.
L G
Went on tuesday which had their dinner special (mon/tues/wed). The place was packed and was greeted by the lovely waiters. There was a bit of a wait but we were served some pakora. I ordered chicken korma and my friends ordered some beef madras and butter chicken. The chicken was beautiful and theres a depth of flavour unlike other curries that makes me sick after a while. Everything was lovely except for the lady at the front which was a bit rude just because we were paying separately.
Jayden Campbell
Stopped in for snacks with my usual group of friends and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered bread with dips, Aabhas ordered a paneer curry and the girls both had Tomato soup. My bread was beautifully crispy and the dips were well portioned. The biggest surprise of the table was the tomato soup which was full of flavour and very fresh. My lemon lime and bitters was a great beverage on the side. We look forward to coming back for mains.
Mrun Godbole
Came here for Friday dinner and the food was SO good! The tomato soup is a MUST try! The best naan I have had so far. The food took a while to come else the score would have been 5/5 ;). But the place is definitely worth a visit :)
Aabhas Dole
A good place for a relaxed dinner after a busy day. We ordered bread dips, tomato soup, methi-matar curry, garlic naan and a plain naan. Everything was nice and tasty. Friendly staff and punctual service. Nothing exceptional though to make me rate nite spice a 5 on 5.

Will I come back here? - Yes!
Hharkirat Siingh
Really super nice food! Delicious it was. Been here a few times now, every time the same quality of food is served aka yummy! A must try for all!

Great place our go to curry place since having bad experience with very slack service down the rd at Masala not as flash inside as Masala but that does not matter the foods great and service fantastic good job guys :)

We bought a great lunch time deal here for takeaways. It included Naan, Roti and a dish of choice for $10; plus you could pay $1 extra for a drink either in house wine or beer, or a soft drink etc for takeaway. As we enjoyed the lunch time dishes; we ordered an evening meal on one of their specials nights at the beginning of the week for $10 per dish. We received efficient and friendly service. The roti and naan were really good, and the curries we ordered were very good too... will def go back again for takeaways and try a few of their additional dishes. Nite Spice has a nice setting for eating in house also.
Andrew @anjeats
I had the channa masala and a plain naan - nice to eat without being exceptional. The restaurant appeared busy for a Wednesday eve, the service efficient but somewhat standard. Would have appreciated it if the waiters came back during the evening to see if we needed more drinks or would like to view the dessert menu.
WHEN-Travel
We found this Indian restaurant on zomato. Very good lunch combo at reasonable price and you pay extra $1 for juice, wine or beer! but the wait staff did not welcome us immediately when we walked in although at that time the restaurant were not so busy....
Prashant Belwalkar
Came here on recommendation. Very good lunch menu and the special offer makes it highly economical. Very friendly and polite service. Offered customisation of curries without fuss. Great taste and justifies the recommendations. NANs were a bit floury...but not that you couldn't enjoy. Will definitely try an evening dinner. Ample space to dine.

Best. Butter. Chicken. EVER.

Seriously guys, this is as good as Indian food gets. Flavoursome and spicy, almost every curry I've had (and I sampled most of the menu) has impressed me. The butter chicken is the best of them all, though. I have tried to find another restaurant that does it better and gave up after 10+ attempts. Indoi in Newmarket and Chawla on Wellesley street come close but just lack that wow factor that Nite Spice's butter chicken has every single time I get it from there (which is almost every week - a family tradition). The beautiful smokey, slightly charred chicken in the curry is plentiful, which is a nice change from curries where you get two lonely bits of meat in a sea of gravy. Naan is really really good too, it's of the light and bubbly variety rather than the doughy thick bread that some other places serve.

Don't bother with Malai Kofta and the indo-chinese range - they're not as good as some other curries.

The staff are always efficient and friendly, no complaints there. There is this slightly-less-good-than-the-lunch-deal dinner deal where you pay $10 for a main with rice Mon-Wed. You have to get the bread and the drink separately if you want them but honestly considering the quantity (huge portion!) and quality of the curry you shouldn't mind paying a little extra for those (optional) add-ons.

My husband and I dine here monthly although he would prefer weekly. Service is always friendly and 'family' like, the waiters are helpful. We often see our waiter round mt Eden and he recognises us, days hi or waves to us when we pass by, even though we have no idea of his name! This is good value for money especially on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The curries are always good temperature when served. As for spices it is consistent. mild is mild but tasty, medium is medium and hot hot. The portions are of a good size.

Good day Nite Spice team,

I have been a frequent customer of yours as I completely enjoy your curries and platters. Have always been the biggest fan over Sitar and other Indian restaurants that were around the same area, Mt Eden. My husband loves the food at your restaurant as much, so since his mother was visiting us from out of town, we decided to give her the best dining experience for Indian food without blowing the budget and thus decided to come to your restaurant at Mt Eden.

Since his mom and I carry small appetites, we decided to order Maharaja Banquet between two of us and order an extra curry on the side. However, the waiter serving us offered to do the Maharaja banquet for three people. The banquet consisted of a platter with 3 samosas, 3 bhajis pakoras, 3 sheesh kebabs and 3 chicken pieces. Main course consisted of 4 curries and rice and roti naan.

When the food was served I was astonished with the amount of rice that was offered between the three of us. It was definitely not enough and we all ended up having small servings, but we thought curries were amazing so decided to just leave it at that. However, when my husband went to pay for the dinner, the bill came to $104.

I request you to clarify some questions. $34 pp which included one samosa, one pakora, one chicken, one sheesh, one curry and one naan/roti. Normally curry rice cost $15 max $18 max plus if I went to order a side dish of samosa chaat could not costed more than 7-8 dollars plus extra roti or naan that cost max $2.50. yet, all of this come together would not cost me more than $26.5 or let's say even max 28 dollars. You have charged us 34 dollars for banquet that doesn't even clearly mention on menu per person, because you just expect us to read small letters when we come for a dining experience. I have been to many other Indian restaurants and quite frankly $34pp would get me even an alcoholic drink. We feel completely ripped off for the amount of food that was offered to us. I do not mind paying even $200 if it was to get me food worth that value, but this was absolutely a rip off and has left me feeling quite deceived. This experience has made me dislike the service as well as I feel the restaurant is all about being lucrative. I sincerely doubt if I will ever visit this restaurant or would ever recommend any one to go. Also, left a terrible experience for my mother-in-law as well. I am happy to spend money, but the quantity of the food and service has to be worth its value. And I repeat, 4 curries of small portions, 3 rotis, a small portion of rice and the platter DOES NOT come to $104 total, that too without any sort of drinks. This was a complete RIP OFF and I highly emphasize for your management to work on this as this has left a terrible feeling towards your restaurant.

The banquet sounds great to say it offers 3- 4 curries, rotis and platter etc. But the quantity was too little for that much amount of money. This can not be over looked on.

Amazing food, amazing service and fresh taste of meat and vegetables - what more could one need?

The staff are very caring, friendly and helpful. Excellent suggestions were made that met my needs.

All my friends love this restaurant - we pretty much eat here every week!

I always, most definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to have authentic, fresh food with excellent service and who is looking to have a great time!

I love coming here, the food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. Lovely staff too. Thank you! The Tandoori Salad is really delicious and one of my favourites.

Nite Spice has been our regular however we were quite disappointed with the service today; the waiter spilled coke on my friend, my order was incorrect, i had to wait for a long while to get my meal. Overall not going back there.

My boyfriend and I come here all the time! The food and service is great! My boyfriend raves over their butter chicken - calling it the best in town! My favourite is their Madras.

Only downside is that I've been there a few times when its been super busy and we've had to wait at least an hour for our mains to come out.

Other than that, I can't really fault the place. Very welcoming and service is impeccable.

I have been here over 20 times. 18 of those visits were for lunch ;) they have a good lunch deal.... Enough said...

And to add a beer for $1 more... Oh $^*& yeaaaa...

But the main star is the food. I love me my butter chicken. Ask for chicken makhani for your dose of authentic butter chicken.

Excellent food! I'm not usually an avid meat eater but thought id branch out and try the malai kofta - it was absolutely delicious!
The service was also good, food came out quickly!
Definitely value for money if you go on the special nights

I had a really nice meal here, I can't fault the food because it was good. Would have given 5 stars. The only issue I had were the staff who weren't that welcoming and kept staring at our table the whole time, it was making my friend and I quite uncomfortable. I found that a bit rude. There are many Indian restaurants out there with better customer service/manners and equally nice food. Not sure if I'll be returning.

Excellent food. Worth going on Monday-Tuesday as its the value for the money. Great and friendly service, Do try their new entrees Tandoori Moti and Gilaphi Kebab. Just Yumm.. MUST RECOMMEND TO ALL.

We have always found the service to be ok and pleasant enough even on busy nights. If you are looking for cold Kingfisher and a pretty standard curry this place is fine.

I wouldn't travel across town to visit.

I took my girlfriend for dinner one night, we both love curry and go to many curry restaurants. We started with the calamari and my word it was over seasoned, it was nearly unpalatable, fortunately the raw cabbage underneath made for a nice palate cleanser.

I ordered Chicken Jaipuri (the one with cherry and pineapple) to try something different, however the sauce was bland and didn't taste like cherry or pineapple. There was however 2 glace cherries on top and about 3 chunks of pineapple in the sauce. She had the Handi Meat but we couldn't taste the ginger or coriander just a bland gravy again.

We also spent allot of time waiting for service and for food, it didn't seem overly busy so not sure why that was. We didn't order any naan but two came out with the curries. I went to pay using a $40 deal voucher I bought (+cash) and the guy said we would have to pay for the naans? I said we didn't order them and there was no disclaimer on the voucher mentioning this. But he wouldn't budge and I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my girlfriend so I just paid the extra $6

We didn't much enjoy our experience there, and to be honest the curry place a few doors up is much tastier, more cozy, and has friendlier staff.

I like it~! The food was great! The table we had could watch Bollywood movie so we didn't get board while we were waiting for the food but just one little thing was that the waiter was a bit pushy. He asked us to order naan bread as well. Even we've already ordered entree & mains... Guess what, I ordered naan bread........lol. We couldn't finish the food as we are not big eaters. It could've been 5 stars but for this reason 4 starts.

I am in the restaurant right now. It has taken us 45 mins to get served. When they did bring the main course it took them another 5 mins to bring the rice. The frustration of the waiting was compounded by the draft on my back. Not a good experience.

we went to Nite Spice years ago and didnt really rate it, however have eaten there twice in the last month and think its excellent.

Its well priced, the food is absolutely divine, and the surroundings really pleasant. The staff are really friendly and know their menu. Their Mon-Weds specials are also a bonus.

We visited Nite Spice just a few days ago and it was great! The food was hot , fresh and tasty. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean and modern and comfortable. Child friendly and all at a great price!

I went to Nite Spice for the first time last Saturday night. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated in a modern way. The staff were friendly and attentive.

The three of us ordered Roganjosh, Fish Marabari and Tandoori Chicken Salad for main. We asked for mild curry as we have little tolerance for hot spice but were very surprised that the curry came not spicy at all. I guess different restaurants have different standards of what mild is. I commented on this when the staff asked if we enjoyed the meal later in the evening and were advised that they prepare their food to suit Kiwis. Funny enough I did notice a lot of Kiwis getting takeaways at Nite Spice and the majority of diners were Kiwis. I reckon that it would be a nice place to bring someone who don't eat spicy curry. Just bear in mind you order something suitable for yourself. Of the three mains, Fish Marabari was our favourite.

We finished our dinner with Mango Kulfi for dessert. It was very well presented. As it was our first Indian dessert I wasn't sure what to expect but I like it.

On another note, if you have an entertainment voucher you would get 25% off but would then have to pay for the otherwise free naan.

We got the weekday specials, takeaway, for dinner. It was ready quickly and was very nice. Only complaint would be that rice wasn't hot enough (seems to happen often with takeaway curries).

This place is one of those rare gems you happen to stumble across - a really great Indian restaurant with consistently top-quality food (and we've tried almost all types).

The ambience is cosy and homely, and could be made really nice with a few dimmed lights and decoration. Needless to say, this would happen to be the best Indian restaurant we've come across in Auckland (for dining and takeaway) and the service is impeccable.

Thanks for always a pleasant meal!
