Review Gogo Daddy Thai Canteen - Auckland Central

Not a bad place for a bite. This place is for share plate dining. Ingredients were nice and fresh. We had the special dish that had a combination of different dishes, tastes good, but papaya salad could have been much bigger! All dishes dressed well. Great service.

This is in Ponsonby central around the middle. Well decorated, has a very cozy vibe to it. Food was excellent, everything was very tasty. It is a little on the expensive side and the portions weren't huge but I would definitely go there again.

Unfortunately I can only give you four stars Great design Fancy let out I really couldn't get connected with the menu, although the taste is not bad. This is definitely not the Thai food that to my past experiences, some of them were happening in originally Thailand I am old school, still prefer authentic Thai food

Fresh ingredients, great food and fast service. The prices were slightly higher than I’d like but it was worth every dollar. We had the Soft shell crab, Duck fried rice and Stir-fried crispy chicken. All three were totally on point and super tasty. The chicken had stronger flavours (in combination with the other two items) so I would get it again with plain rice and Bok choy, to really enjoy it. Thanks guys!!

Planning on visiting Ponsonby central from weeks but luckily had a chance to try out this place. Very cool vibes, nice ambience, food is to die for. Absolutely blown away with the Duck Fried Rice, Fried chicken. The pork ribs were alright, could have been better. The house beer was wonderful. That's the only beer you get in a jug though. Over all really good Thai place. Definitely a must try and Highly Recommended !

Love this cosy spot, every dish we had was delicious and full of flavour thai fusion style. Good value, highly recommended.

It’s definitely a hipstery Thai restaurant so expect the food to be the same, hipster authentic! Very accommodating though their phone line doesn’t seem to work around 3-5pm if you need booking or changes to booking?! (Sorry for the odd comment) Food is great, best Thai food however? - No but it’s still worth coming. All the dishes are meant to be shared.

We love this Thai place ! Very nice service and delicious food. Great atmosphere in the heart of Ponsonby.

Delicious food, designed as sharing plates which come ou and to the table as ready. Great atmosphere which wasn't hugely loud as some venues can get. There were several things I wanted to try so will have to return to get through the list.

Excellent food n drinks - enjoyed the beef cheek and pork belly the most (must try) as the meat literally melts In the mouth. The red parasol cocktail didn't taste that good the first few sips but got better as the dinner went on. All in all, a lovely place n awesome food.

Yeah, very Ponsomby. We had several plates and I preferred the Lamb curry over the much vaunted chicken curry. The pork hock gravy was especially good. The staff were friendly but still left us hanging for drink when we were the only guests. They serve some interesting cocktails with Asahi, Garage and Blue Ridge beers. Plus their own Honey Beer which is a little too sweet for extended drinking.

GREAT food (very limited menu) and atmosphere. The gogo lager is a nice beer. I'm posting a photo of empty plates because that's how good it was.

The food was great and the staff were lovely. A great dinner for 3.

Really outstanding restaurant with a great vibe. If this were in Melbourne, there would be a two hour wait. Food was creative, fresh and delicious. Very quick and friendly service. We tried the pork hock, beef salad, duck fried rice and the laksa - all were outstanding. Well priced, most dishes around $20. We ordered 4 dishes between 3 and this was a good amount. Can’t recommend highly enough, if you are from Melbourne: think a Thai version of Supernormal crossed with a Hawker hall/Miyagi vibe.

Food: Really, really good (4.5 stars). Papaya salad a bit slim on the papaya. Cocktails: Disappointing (2 stars). They come in little pre-mixed bottles, have very little alcohol, and were more akin to buying a $3 bottle of Phoenix juice than a $20 cocktail. Definitely won't be ordering these again when/if eating here. Decor: Disappointing (2 stars). Essentially no change from Honeybear so the place still looks Indian/Burmese...

Delicious, vibrant, great service, top class drinks. Can't recommend enough!

When my mate from Aus comes over, we like to do food tours. Ponsonby this visit, and Go Go Daddy was by far the star of the Ponsonby Central eateries we tried. We had the prawns and soft shell crab. Outstanding. Service and vibe was good. I'll be back...

Love the look of the place but every dish was too sweet! The pork ribs were very tough :(

We dined here on a Sunday night and the place wasn’t busy. We were served and seated promptly. Ambiance is very chill and relaxing however the tables are super close together and the place is crowded (it’s not child friendly - they don’t have high chairs either). Overall we were all very satisfied food wise and their drinks menu was great! We had the prawns, squid and spicy salad for starters and they were all very tasty and serving portions were fair. For mains we had fried chicken, pork hock and beef curry noodles. Again serving portions for larger plates were good (can feed up to 3 adults). We preferred the small plates as the flavours were more authentic. Wasn’t a fan of pork hock (too chewy and hard for me) and the beef noodles (too soggy). Overall I really enjoyed it, service was quick and will be back to try more dishes!

Have been meaning to go here for quite some time and finally ended up here on a cold Friday evening. Service was great! We were walk ins but they managed to scramble a table quickly. Food was good. Asian fusion always hits the spot. Crispy chicken was awesome! Didn't get a chance to try the pork but heard it was good!

Great ambiance and good food but the staff member was rude towards my partner. My partner orders Crispy chicken with rice and time of serving my partner asked for rice. The female waiter rudely said I have two hands only. She could have been polite but her tone was rude and bit offensive.

Excellent service and lovely cosy atmosphere. Dinner was pretty good but not amazing. We ordered calamari, pork hock & chicken larb. The pork hock was sticky & sweet & full of flavour. The calamari could do with more salt and the chicken larb was interesting - not quite to my taste (I love a traditional larb and this one was a bit too “fusion” for me) however all in all a great experience and will return to try other items on the menu. Prices are reasonable.

Beautiful food. Vibrant colors mixed with a wonderful depth of flavour. The waitstaff were knowledgeable and attentative. Will be back again, with friends!

Came here with a group of 6 for a friends birthday. We ordered an assortment of dishes including the fried chicken, calamari, pork ribs, beef curry, roti. All were super delish with lots of tasty flavours. The only thing that was abit average was the sticky rice as it was hella over cooked. Would defs return :)

There are a lot of Thai restaurants in Auckland and most of them prepare the same viands like green curry, tom yam and pad thai to name some and most of these you have an option of having it in pork, chicken, beef or seafood. Some of them are really good but some are average but what I am tired of is the same menu regardless of which Thai you go to, I am not against that idea but like I said if you have the same thing again and again then you will get tired of it.

Beautiful food. Duck fried rice. Immaculate. Rice was the best fried rice I’ve had. Wonderful wine selection for a canteen. Pork dish works wonderfully together, sweets and acidics.

The Pork Hock was unbelievable! The best thing we have eaten in so long. Everything else we ordered was delicious and the staff we lovely. Great first trip, will be back again soon

Went here two weeks ago and the food was flawless! The duck fried rice was the highlight for me and the prawn fish curry ... best ever. Definitely a place worth visiting.

The only thing I’d suggest are blinds during evening sittings as the sun can be in patrons face

Went to Go Go Daddy with a couple of mates after looking around Ponsonby Central. BEST. DECISION. EVER. The food was genuinely incredible. We ordered the Duck Fried Rice, Chicken Laksa, Papaya Salad and the Thai Fried Chicken and it was all so so good. The atmosphere great and as to be expected the restaurant was buzzing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Asian Fusion cuisine. I, for one, will definitely be going back.

Rich and flavoursome Thai food. This place is quaint, great ambiance, comfy seating with great service to match and affordable price too.

Had lunch here for a girls date. Our waiter served us water as soon as we sat down which is good sign of a great restaurant service.

We shared the beef cheek laksa and spicy Thai pork hock they were so delicious, the meat just melts in your mouth and bold in flavours. The green papaya salad on the other hand is a bit underwhelming we didn't like the uncooked snake beans not quite pleasant to eat.

But we'll still come back to try the rest of the menu 😃

The staff are really nice and friendly. I ordered the pork but got the smaller version and a side of rice and that filled me up. It’s really good food and love the flavour especially with the sauces. Would definitely come back here again

I’m giving this place 5 stars for the exceptional food! The duck fried rice was next level awesome & salt & pepper squid some of the best I’ve ever eaten! Also really enjoyed the charred noodle dish. Can’t wait to go back & sample more of the menu. The service was slightly slow/average but it was absolutely heaving so gave them a bit of leeway on that.

I ordered a Small size of the caramelised Pork Hock - as I was dining for one the waiter did advise me that most of the menu was mostly designed to be shared but he let me know which dishes were suitable for a single diner.

The pork hock is sweet, sticky and boneless (yesssss) dish which is quite soft with coriander. If it gets a bit too sweet you can try it with a small bit of chilli to spice it up, or dip it in a small bowl of cucumber and relish which I think might have a hint of fish sauce in it to give it some flavour.

The relish goes well with the pork hock.

The tables inside are a bit close together and small but overall the place has a fun vibe to it, and ideal for casual catch ups with food to be shared.

Food was great and full of flavor! My husband and I ordered Stir-fried Crispy Chicken, Slow-cooked Beef Cheek Laksa and x2 Jasmine Rice. The chicken was not too oily and it has a kick of freshness as well. I especially liked the laksa it was good for 2 persons and has thick noodles. I liked the crispy noodles on top which added texture to the dish. The beef melts in your mouth!

The ambiance was good - laid back. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Overall a lovely experience!

Just! Wow!! Delicious fresh and so tasty. The staff are friendly, the drinks are superb and the staff are very helpful when you are needing help to decide. Thanks for having us!!

Been there twice, love their food. Curry are so fragrant and full of flavour. Duck fried rice are good, not oily. Clean and warm environment. Worth to try.

Not a bad place if you want to try a Thai with a twist. Although not typical Thai cuisine, they do have some tasty items on the menu. We loved the duck fried rice and the dressing in the beef salad was fantastic!

Good little Thai restaurant to visit in Ponsonby Central! Service friendly enough and a variety of dishes to choose from. We had the duck stir fry rice 4/5, soft crab 2/5, beef salad 4/5 & sticky rice. Nice enough atmosphere not sure I would be back in a hurry!

Moo Moo Chowy ……. Sorry, I mean Go Go Daddy has few surprises, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

It’s more of the same sweet, spicy, sour and tangy goodness that we’ve come to expect. The Pork Hock is still the tastiest piece of meat you’ve had in your mouth since your honeymoon. The Beef Cheek Laksa is still its melt in your mouth, impossible to pick up with chop sticks extravaganza.

What has changed of course is the layout of the restaurant, gone is the classy dining experience that Ms Moo presented in her old premises. Now you’re squeezed into a small neon lit environment, booth seats that are seemingly custom made for the vertically challenged, being a tall fella I had the same sensation I get when trying to squeeze into a domestic Air NZ flight.

It appears the interior and layout is borrowing inspiration from the likes of Kiss Kiss and they've taken what was an evening long, pleasurable dining experience, and crammed it into a, wham bam thank you mam, casual South East Asian street food eating adventure.

At the end of the day, making money in an already crammed restaurant scene is about bums on seats and turning those tables over quickly, something that I’m sure this change of scenery will accomplish. I just feel it’s taken something away from the dining experience …

#changeishard

I miss Miss Moo.

Dinner on Tuesday night. Beef rendang and pork hock shared between 2. The beef pieces were super soft and tender like it had been slow cooked for hours. The spicy soup was perfect for a cold wintery night but I wish it came with more noodles, they were pretty sparse in the bowl. Pork hock was delicious but the coating was overly sweet which made it a bit sickly towards the end. The dressing and pickled cucumber in it went perfectly. The best part of the meal was the lychee sorbet I had for dessert though. It was light and refreshing especially after a relatively heavy meal. I loved that they used fresh lychee as well. I think I'll be back just for this dessert next time 😋

So So Good. I loved everything about GoGoD. And Mark was there overseeing it was at its best. So tasty, so reasonable, So So Daddy ? I'm coming back so so soon. Kieran Smyth

Relatively new to the area Go-go Daddy is a nice addition to Ponsonby Central and is already proving to be popular with locals. Inspired by Thai street food they have branched out with their menu and strayed from traditional dishes like Pad thai, pad see ew and Massaman curry. In saying that the flavours are still there and your still sure to get your Asian fix. With its chilled atmosphere, dimmed fuchsia lighting and quirky but modern décor it’s a great spot to catch up with friends.

We ordered the Charred flat rice noodles with broccoli and mushrooms and the Coconut curry of smashed prawn and fish. Although you can definitely find cheaper Thai elsewhere the portions aren’t bad. The Charred noodles was a simple dish but the chilli dressing really added to it and I liked that it was served separately so you could add as much or as little to suit your taste preference. My friend rated the Coconut curry – she’s been here a few times now and it’s her go to. It’s worth getting a side of sticky rice to mop up the juices! Worth checking out if you feel like Thai food in Ponsonby.

I had high expectations from the team who had Moo Chow Chow and still have the likes of Blue Breeze Inn and Chop Chop - and they were delivered on. Our favourite dish was the larb made with chicken livers and with fresh bettle leaves. I have never had larb like this (with the livers) but it was fantastic and the bettle leaves were soooo fresh. I asked about them and apparently the Exec Chef Che sources them fresh in NZ rather than old Fijian ones that are often served at other restaurants. My only comment re the larb was that for $18 it was great value but maybe put up the price to $21-$22 and add more leaves to eat it with/in as there is quite a lot of larb. I really really hope that they can also do this dish for me to take away sometimes! The prawn egg net was very nice though a few more herbs would have been nice. The sticky pork was (as in MCC days) fab as always. Maybe a little more 'add on' heat would be great - as is available at Chop Chop and/or some type of nam jim jaew dipping/pouring sauce for those of us who like it spicy! Oh and the service was very very good.

Very chilled atmosphere and good service. We have enjoyed all the food there especially the school prawns. The prawns are small so would have to eaten with the skin and the head, so it’s probably not for everyone. But if you don’t mind that it’s a real pleasant surprise.

Really nice Thai food, we loved all the dishes we ordered. although I think more close to Malaysian style with all the curries and coconut.
However service is really terrible. Staffs are friendly, but keep forgetting our orders. We had to ask and remind 3 of them to get our rice and it took half an hour. And third dish turns up after a while we finished the other two because the kitchen forgot it.
