Review Al Volo - Auckland Central

Matthew Vincent
Al Volo is in my top 5 for authentic italian food in Auckland. If you feel like a big, tasy pizza, al volos is where it’s at. Eaten there more than half a dozen times this year. Great service. I’ve also had takeouts from there which are just as good. Only ‘negative’ is that they do some interesting pizza cutting 😂😂. Not a problem at all though, thought it was pretty funny ngl Reccomend to anyone looking for a good italian feed in the auckland area

I love a good pizza and was looking for a good place to become a regular. Before Al Volo I have tried several pizza places in town and haven’t settle in one until I found Al Volo. Things what makes me to come back to this place: - delicious thin crust - variety of pizzas - easy online ordering system - gluten -free option is available and its great ! - money vs quality very good Usually order the same kind but tried about 3-4 different just out of curiosity. Really love Bruschetta pizza. Its nothing much really on it besides tomatoes and basil but it tastes soo good ! Will be coming back again. When ordering online you might want to check as they add automatic tips in it. Not a big fan of that system.

Al Volo Pizzas are awesome, the pastas too. This is food made with pride & passion. I say this is Auckland's best pizza - certainly I haven't found anywhere else that even comes close. Eating in is a pleasure, takeout is a treat. Service is genuine, attentive & professional.

The food we came for was perfect. Traditional pizzas made with quality ingredients in wood fired oven. The two servers were very busy, annoyingly there is a constant stream of takeaways in the small venue so unable to take in the ambience & vibe.

Love love love this place and people! I’ve been going to Al Volo for years and it’s hands down the best and most authentic Italian Pizza you can find in Auckland. Thank you so much for creating such delicious food and serving it in a warm cosy atmosphere. Keep up the amazing work and see you again soon!

We dined in at Al Volo after dinner a couple of times recently to enjoy their bottomless pizza deal as well as trying other dishes. The staff is fantastic and engaging, super friendly and the ambiance of the restaurant is warm and homely. The food is fantastic especially their pizzas and the wine selection is great too. I particularly enjoyed the Cotto and Funghi pizzas and the smoked mushroom salad. The truffle ravioli is especially memorable too. For a relaxed impressive night out enjoying wonderful Italian food, especially amazing pizza, Al Volo is the obvious choice. Highly recommended with distinction!

The pizza was the best we have had to date. The toppings are spread to the crust and even rolled up into the crust. Won't try anywhere else now.

Has a great pizza here tonight very good authentic pizza. Restaurant is small so if you definitely want pizza make sure you book. Friendly staff and efficient service. My partner had fries as well which were very good of the shoestring variety. Nice place to go for a casual meal with friends or family. Expense $$. I did not try the coffee so cannot comment.

Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow I am always amazed by the service, Tony (front of house) is absolutely amazing, How do you remember customers names even after weeks!? Definitely feel very appreciated as a customer, Great service is so hard to find anywhere nowadays. The food is also fantastic, Have to try all the great flavour on the menu. Great authentic Italian pizza, Al Volo customer for life A++

5 Star pizza.Great place to eat fresh wood fire pizza. Really nice flavors and options to choose from we had the Cotto E Fungi and Danny Bolo pizzas. They also have some amazing starters, we had the Mammas meat balls stuffed with mozzarella, yes yum yum. If you want a seat on a Friday or Saturday night you will need to book as it gets very busy and there is not a lot of room for dinning in. The place is so popular takeaways are flying out the door as well as Uber eats. If you have enough room for desert ask for the home made Classic Tiramisu. Hope I just made you want to go!!! Great place for a fun meal and happening atmosphere.

Best pizza I had in NZ so far. Great little Italian place, warm atmosphere, delicious food. Perfect for spending a nice evening and enjoy the best of Italian cuisine. Don't skip the limoncello. 🍋🍋🍋

Best pizza ive had in nz! Best way to test a good pizzaiolo is to order a simple margita. From crust to toppings everything was top notch. The place was booked out but the lovely waitresses let us wait on the reserved tables to stay out of the cold. And while we ate our pizza outside on the footpath like lil fan boys the owner came out and shared a lemincello with us. Great pizza. Great experiance

First time trying these guys The atmosphere is cosy Staff are very friendly & Super helpful! My 3 year old son loves garlic bread & they don't have this on the menu, but something similar the girl behind the counter said that they could still make one for me We will definitely be back to dine in
Life's for living
Yummy thin crusted pizzas with good toppings, not too sparse. Taste is also great.

A great place to come and dine! My friend who is coeliac had a worry free night and was able to eat the fries & have a pizza on a gluten free base! Great service & would definitely dine here again ☺️

Al Volo is such a cute and cosy pizzeria. Great vibes and friendly service from the waiters. The menu had good variety too - we had the Gamberi pizza with prawns, mozarella, red onion, chilli and fresh rocket, it was delicious and I loved the pizza base. Also had the porcini pasta with truffle, walnuts and added extra bacon crumbs - yummy! It was super rich and creamy and everything you want in a pasta. For dessert we ordered the gelato (pistachio flavour) and Tiramisu - both beautifully presented and completed the meal nicely. Overall a lovely experience in a cosy little Italian eatery.

Delicious pizzas and friendly staff! Had a Margherita and it was perfectly done, sauce had so much flavour and the crust was done perfectly. Would recommend!

Ordered two pizzas for takeaway (Danny Bolo and Spiros).

Only had a brief interaction with staff who were friendly enough. However, both pizzas were extremely disappointing. The Spiros was extremely soggy (the toppings fell off when we picked up a slice). The tomato base was scarce and bland and the crust was salty and extremely dry on both pizzas (also under-cooked in the middle). The ham on the Danny Bolo tasted like it came from the supermarket. For a total price of $52 ($25.50 for the Spiros; $26.50 for the Danny Bolo) the pizzas were no where near the quality one would expect for the price of 10 dominos pizzas.

Have eaten from this place before with no problems, unfortunately after this experience I would not order again.

Absolutely amazing pizza! Friendly service and a great selection of beverages!

I believe the chips we ordered was the best chips I have ever ate in my life 🤤 The atmosphere was chilled, pizza was good and the service was fine.

We were greeted by a staff member who was quiet and not friendly or welcoming, just more focused on whatever else he had to do. He gave very short answers when we had questions about the bottomless pizza as though he didn't like us asking questions about what we were getting.

He didn't take the time to explain that you have to eat whole pizzas in the order they have written on the board (pictured) until my friend had asked twice. He also didn't say that you don't get to choose or skip any you don't like or want, so we didn't find this out until after we had ordered.

We did enjoy the first 2 pizzas, I would have preferred more cheese, but they were simple and tasty.

The rest if the foods looked amazing on the other tables, so i regretted the choice..

Then we were served the marinara. This is a pizza base piled with a mix of tomato paste and what tasted like tinned crushed tomatoes mixed with some tomato paste, topped with some cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and dried oregano.. It looked good, but I can't handle that tomato to base ratio, especially with that much dried oregano.

We really would not have had this pizza at all if it was possible, and so we left feeling quite disappointed and definitely not as full or satisfied as we had thought we would feel.

My friend had been there for the same thing before but they never had such a rule. My friend also really wanted the cotto e fungi but of course, we didn't make it that far.

Disappointing.

Came here a while ago - great food and great service. A little pricey for the portion but still good. Their dessert was ok. Shop’s clean and well maintained.

I just ordered 2 pizzas through UberEats(Margherita and Calabrese), however, both pizzas were extremely salty, mainly the tomato paste so we could barely eat 2 slices. I called the site to complain about it and I was told that they never put salt on pizzas and that customers were saying through the night that it was the best pizza they ever had. Meaning, she didn't care about the complain. In simple words, they don't care about critics so they just lost a customer or a bunch because word of mouth is best/worse marketing. They could have easily replaced the pizza and everything would be fine. Thats definitely a place I would not order from again and will not recommend to people. If you don't take critics and think you make the best pizza in the world then for sure you are doing something wrong(delusional). Even Dominos knows howbto season a pizza better then Al Volo. I should have ordered from Rosso Pomodoro as usual, they surely have a great pizza. Wrong of me for trying something new and ending up with an awful pizza.
Viviani Natiele
Extremely salty pizza and awful customer service, one lady was extremely rude over the phone they just lost a customer. I would'nt recommend it to anyone.
Friendly waitress, nice layout of the small place. Food was delicious! The lighting at night makes it romantic but nice and cosy area to eat

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Overall: 4.5/5

Came with a big group of friends and we ordered so much food! I tried Spiros pizza and it was really yum. I like that they used two types of cheese - mozzarella and scarmoza cheese which added different flavours to the pizza. Got prosciutto and the grissini and wafers were so good. Didn’t give much hope to the wild rocket salad but surprisingly it was a big serving and quite nice! Just thought that the fries were a bit over fried but other than that the food was all perfect!
Staff were super nice and patient when we were splitting bills. It was a nice gathering with everyone!
Michael.aholelei
Pizza looks good but taste wasnt there. Sauce was soupy and had no flavour, seasoning. Crust was floppy and doughy (because the sauce was so soupy I guess).

5.9/10
Julia Louise
Awesome gluten free pizza bases and vegan cheese available too. Excellent friendly service and staff were able to recommend which pizzas were better with the gluten free base. New favourite pizza spot!

Came here for a nice dinner on a Saturday night. Very small restaurant with a lot of traffic of Uber eats and takeaway customers. I ordered a GF pizza and my fiance ordered the gnocchi. Super happy with the pizza with no cross contamination occurring. Just wish there was a little more cheese. My fiance was happy with his gnocchi, however it was too rich for him to finish it. I will be back here again.

As an avid pizza fan, I was very excited to see what "Al Vollo" had to recommend. However, from the moment I walked in the door I was disappointed and felt uneasy. The staff greeted me by quite curtely telling me to "take off my hat." I wear a Dodger's hat my father left me before he passed away every time I go for pizza. I know, it's a silly tradition, but it helps me to remember him, and all the good times we had eating pizza in L.A. as a kid.

To this I replied, "I won't remove my hat, but I'll sit outside if you'd like." The man responded with an incredibly rude and ruthlessly sarcastic "wow, you have really great energy." Taken aback, but still wishing to try there pizza (I should have left right then and there) I took my seat at one of the outside tables. After 20, despite the restaurant being anywhere close to busy, minutes they finally brought me some water and a menu.

After another 20 minutes they came back and abruptly asked for my order. I ordered a "Calabrese," as any pizza aficionado knows the best way to judge a pizza joint is by their mozzarella and salami.

Though I should have expected it at this point the bottom of the pizza was heavily burned (to the point of tasting quite similar to an ash tray), the salami might as well have been store bought, lacking any of the familiar subtleties of one properly prepared, and the mozzarella was bland and lackluster at best.
And oh my god, the sauce. It was so sparsely and stingily applied it would have been impossible to notice had it not tasted like it had been fermented or something. Did not smell nice, either. Kind of like spoiled milk (I'm not kidding), but I powered through nonetheless. Wouldn't be right to waste a near $30 pizza, would it?

Having been to Fondi, Italy myself, and a number of world-class pizza restaurants, I can solidly rate Al Volo a whopping 0/10.

The staff (owners?) are unbelievably rude and will make you feel uncomfortable, the pizza is burnt and lacking any character - especially at its very premium price point, the sauce (idk if they just had a problem that day, or what) is actually disgusting, and the ambiance is cliche' and mediocre even at that.

Do yourself and your family a favor, and stay away from here.

This was one of the places recommended to us by an Italian mate when we asked “where is a good place for authentic Italian pizza?”
Nice little place on the corner of a busy after work street, but somehow once we entered it was rather calm soothing!
I can see the pizza was baked in the traditional open fire pizza oven. We ordered the Al Volo and a chorizo one; one vegetarian and meaty one!
Pizza was a delightful, you can tell the ingredients used are fresh. Simple flavour that classic Italian pizza should have!
I would go back again! Apparently they have $20 all you can eat pizza deal between 5-7pm every Tuesday to Friday! But this is only on the cheaper pizzas.

Service 3/5 meh... it’s not great nor bad
Food 5/5 authentic, the crust is great!
Instagram worthy 1/5 place doesn’t look great, almost like family diner deco style
I don't usually write reviews, but Al Volo definitely deserves one. We eat there often and absolutely love there pizzas, by far the best in Auckland and with a great variety of options. Where I have been particularly impressed though is we hired out the venue for a long lunch for my mothers birthday and it was outstanding. Luca (owner chef) and I put together a menu that didn't have a pizza in sight (except for the kids) and instead enjoyed canapies, antipasto, salmon entree, lamb rack main and then cheese and deserts, and it was all cooked to perfection. Miki and Rachel who looked after Front of House were exquisite hosts and made everyone feel truly welcomed and looked after with nothing being too hard. I cannot recommend the place, and Luca and Miki highly enough. I've had only positive comments from all of our guests who all felt as though they were part of the Al Volo family by the end of the afternoon. Definitely go in for dinner and takeaways, but don't feel shy about talking about private functions as well.

Had a fantastic night! Good ambience, friendly server and most importantly amazing food.

The dough was crispy and chewy, toppings were generous, and the aranchini we ordered was the best aranchini I had in a while!

At first, I was worried because of quite a bit of bad reviews but in the end, I came to a conclusion that there are just some people you can never please.

I will visit again very soon!

Delicious pizza plus vegan friendly = amazing 😍 Pictured is two vegetariana pizzas, one at front with vegan cheese. The cocktails are good & strong and the dairy free brownie with coconut ice cream was so good too.

Booked in to enjoy there $20 bottomless pizza :-) . Loved the service and the food was fantastic. Ended up getting 3 Pizzas between 4 people which was enough. Also ordered the Parmesan fries with truffle flavoring. Only downside was there where 2 big groups in there so our table seemed a bit makeshift and had to sit on tiny stools. Will still go back though.

Went here for the first time tonight.
Super friendly and prompt service.
The food was impeccable. Perfect base to the pizza and so glad we squeezed in a dessert to share.. the profiteroles with Vincotto and espresso ice cream were a highlight.
Best pizzeria in town! Quality italian ingredients and great service, Calabrese and Parmese are delicious pizzas along with a Perino beer on Tap and as a desert the classic italian Tiramisu

In one word. DELIZIOSO! Calamari was crispy, well-seasoned and served with a generous portion being an entree.
Pizza dough was crispy, and fluffy at the same time. Fillings were generous, but it didn't sog up the pizza.

Overall, a good reason why it's the regular pizza place for a lot of Mt Eden residents!

Was looking forward to a nice night out with dinner at Al Volo Pizzeria, obviously coming to this pizzeria is where my luck ran out.. waiter was incredibly rude to us and food took way to long for what looked like a relatively quiet evening. The pizzas were nice but way overpriced for the quality of them. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Really enjoyed the pizzas here. After reading the reviews, I was skeptical but was pleasantly surprised. The decor has been updated and it looks great!! Do come here and give this a go. We ordered meatballs, fries, Danny bolo pizza and tiramisu pizza. The meatballs r juicy and delicious with cheese inside. The pizza crust is amazing and authentic. We have been to Italy before so this is real good food. Totally recommended. Owner is super friendly and came to have a chat. He mentioned the mozzarella is hand pulled. Can't get more Italian than that. :)

Loved the salami wood-fire pizza, first time trying the wood-fire experience. Amazing service. Will definitely be back again soon. Thanks to the friendly staff for your hospitality.

I would say it's almost good for nothing. The pizzas are practically void of toppings if you check what is was suppose to be by the name of that pizza. I always wonder if people are there for the drinks they offer or the pizza, or just the fact that it's close to the Powerstation.
Ffionachua
A classic pizza house with classic pizza options - nothing fancy or experimental like the newer pizza stores. The decor is great and nothing like the outside view of it (don't judge a book by its cover, I guess!)

Bought takeaways and had the pizza with sausages and calabrese salami. The taste was decent, but the pizza was really soggy!

Even though I bought takeaways, I only took it to a block away from the location so this shouldn't have affected the crispness of the base. I couldn't even lift the pizza slice out without everything falling off.

For $25 per pizza, I do expect either a great cook on the pizza or amazing flavours which unfortunately they didn't have. At least the interior provides quite a nice atmosphere and dining experience.

Average food, awful customer service. No friendliness, long wait. Never coming back here again. The food and cutlery were being banged on the table, if it was getting late for you, turn the sign board to closed, but kindly don't misbehave.

Sigh! Such a disappointment when a hyped up place let's itself down by the service. Prime location, parking was easy. Sat down at 8:30pm and server came to take our orders 30mins later at 9pm. We ordered arancini and calamari (both came highly recommended) got told "we have run out of starters", the reason being it is a weekend and if we had come during weekdays this would not be a problem. I asked when did they run out because I just saw a plate of calamari go out (which looked delish), 30 mins ago apparently. What a coincidence, just when we came in. Ok we ordered out pizza and asked if there were fries available, got told not doing that either as we have run out. Cmon! Run out of fries that is hard to believe. Then the story changed to deep drier not working. Turns out that the kitchen just stopped making starters. They didn't run out of anything, nor was the dee frier faulty. Would have appreciated a heads up 30mins ago when we sat down. At least the server relayed the story of the missing starters with a smile. Hence the 2 stars! Note to management: Things such as these make the experience a bit sour even though the food is good.

Absolutely amazing pizza! Have been there 3 times already and had the Gambera and Al Volo which is hands down my favorite with a little extra chili!! Also definitely need to try the dessert pizza, perfect to share with the whole table. Great customer service and very friendly staff.

My only regret is that they don't have more tables as we once had to wait a little bit for a table to free itself even though we had checked on the phone if they had space before getting there.

All in all amazing italian style pizza (which I was missing coming from Europe) that I will definitely have again soon!

Went there for dinner with a few friends. Service was absolutely appalling- extremely slow and rude. When we finally finished our meals and went to pay it took them 15 minutes to split the bill into 2! We obviously got a bit frustrated and commented on the poor service- the manger's response was even worse, instead of being apologetic he got even more rude. One of the worse customer service we have experienced.
Kristen
If you like pizza, especially wood fired pizza, Al Volo is definitely worth a visit. The staff is friendly and attentive. It's not the cheapest, but you pay for what you get with the great quality, and generous portions of food and wine. It has a good casual atmosphere, but the place is quite small so if you're hoping to go on a weekend evening it's probably best to book a table.
Danny
Pretty decent pizza place - I have taken away from here a couple of times.
The good - the pizzas are quality and come with generous toppings.
The bad - the flavours of some of their pizzas are just too strong, like the Romana pizza (which I usually enjoy), but the saltiness (and the amount) of anchovies completely overpowers anything else.

Service is pretty good - and they're only open in the evenings!
Koryn
Great pizza and lovely, friendly staff definitely make this place worth a visit. The pizzas are a bit expensive but their price adequately reflects what a good non chain store bought pizza should cost. They're wood fired too! Would definitely come back.
Shazzzaaaaammmm
To be honest this was such a huge disappointment.

I ordered over the phone and the staff member was nice enough. However I want some clarification, The Tiramisu pizza is over $28! I thought, this has to be good if it's costing this much. I pay the money on pick up however, on the board behind the counter it states the Tiramisu is $19.90. Why are there TWO separate prices. Unfortunately I noticed this just after I purchased.

The pizza itself....I am going to base on a gourmet style pizza as this was over $28. In a word bland! Absolutely no flavour, just the core ingredients had their own flavour. The toppings fall right off the pizza and the base is so thing it cannot handle the weight of cheese. The box was overly greasy and you can see the toppings sliding about on the top of the pizza. also it's tiny! So small for something that's over $28!

I would not recommend this place unless you're ready to throw some money away.

A++ We had an excellent experience at Al Volo. The food was absolutely delicious; full of flavour and cooked to perfection. It was quite a busy night and all the staff were friendly. We cannot wait to go back

I went here based on the recommendation of a friend. I was tossing up between this one and Dante's in Ponsonby and chose Al Volo because they had a mushroom pizza. I was really hanging out for mushrooms! We arrived a bit early and the staff were fine with us moving our reserved table to a table by the window. We decided pretty quickly what we wanted (he got the "Al Volo" and I got the "Cotto e Funghi" and a couple of drinks. It took maybe 10 or 15 minutes for our orders to arrive and they were absolutely phenomenal. Beautifully light, thin crust that you could wrap up in your hand and bite into, and the flavours were perfectly balanced. However, two slices into my pizza I realised it had no mushroom... and in fact it was the wrong pizza! They had given me the "Parmese" by accident. At this point I was enjoying the pizza a lot so I just told the waitress what had happened but that I was fine with this pizza. She was very apologetic and was a little perplexed as to what happened, me too as I did see her write down my pizza. But in any case, my pizza was delicious and my boyfriend's was beautiful too. We were full to bursting after a pizza each and left feeling super satisfied (even if I didn't get my mushrooms in the end!). I'll definitely be back and will recommend this place to anyone, I still need to try the cotto e funghi one after all!

PS a few reviews said it wasn't very fancy inside with plastic chairs, but they must have replaced the furniture as I found it very nice and perfectly acceptable for a nice date.
Louisa Vickers
I've been to this pizzaria several times over the last few years and love it. It is more expensive than many other places, but I think the pizza quality justifies that. The bases are delicious, so tasty when many pizza bases are bland/floury. The toppings aren't overwhelming (almost traditional Italian - says the girl who's never been to Italy), and the combination is wonderful. Highly recommended, although it is on the higher price scale.
WeiTing Ashley Shyu
Lovely fresh pizza BUT I had high hopes due to so many rave reviews... Sad to say I was slightly let down. Wish the pizza's had more wow flavours - it was light and fresh but lacked that beautiful aroma full of flavours which I believe every good pizza should have. Nice little pizza place though! Also, the pizza's are on the pricey end and I can't decide if they are worth it or not.
Genie @ BunnyEatsDesign
I had heard good things about this place and my husband was craving pizza so we came here on a cold night for some takeaways. We ordered 2 pizzas which were just about ready when we arrived to pick up. The owner was friendly and chatty which made us want to come back another time to dine in. We had the Gamberi (prawn) and the oddly named Tiramisu (which is basically antipasto on a pizza).

The Gamberi was nice with subtle flavours and plump prawns. The Tiramisu was very strong flavoured due to the salami, chorizo, green olives etc. A nice balance to have these two together.

The dough has a wonderful flavour, but was super thin in the centre and broke apart easily. These are are not pizzas that you can eat with your hands without making a mess, though I believe this is the style.

Size of pizzas are medium, we could easily eat two pizzas between two people, so keep in mind if you're feeding a group, you may need to allocate one pizza per person. Prices are slightly higher than similar quality pizzas (due to smaller size). Might come back if I have a pizza craving, would probably dine in for the Peroni on tap.

amazing pizza shared two between three of us and awesome location. stopping in here for dinner before a concert at the powerstation. need to go back again

Hidden Gem. We came across this place quite by accident. I tried the Cotto e Funghi and my wife had Sud Pacifico. We were both suitable full after these lovely pizza's.

Could be dangerous if we lived closer !!!!

Came here recently for pizza, having heard good things about it. Unfortunately it seems Al Volo is not what it used to be. Ordered a pizza that came with anchovies, capers and green olives, and while I get that these are relatively salty toppings, the pizza was impossible to eat. Total salt overload, it was as if the whole pizza had been coated in it on top of the super-salty ingredients. Nobody could handle it, ended up having to chuck it (unfortunate given it was one of the more expensive ones at $26.50). What a waste, pretty disappointing. The guy that served me was rude too, and I'm guessing it's the owner given the incredibly rude replies I've just read for the reviews below. Expecting an equally defensive reply to this review. Definitely won't be coming back here again.
Ulrich Frerk
Pizza pizza pizza. So many places around. So many to choose from. Ginas, Archie's.. This list goes on. But none with the experience and expertise that these guys have. Proper dough. Made from fermented flour. The real way. Tasty and amazing. Simlple and easy, and what better than an amazing cold Peroni to go with it. Awesome. Thanks guys.
Jane Smith
Amazing pizza ! Best I have had outside of Italy - possibly even better. You can tell the ingredients are authentic and the cheese they use it amazing. The base had the perfect smokey wood flavour and wasn't heavy at all. The staff were all very friendly.

Currently at the Powerstation for Jimmy Eat World and decided we were hungry, so the bar told us we could order a pizza from Al Volo's. We looked at the prices and almost backed out but since there was nothing else we decided to go ahead. We ordered the prosciutto e funghi pizza (ham and mushrooms).

When it came, it looked nice enough but there were definitely no mushrooms on it. We showed the pizza to the bar staff who we ordered from and she confirmed it. We don't like to fuss about this kind of stuff so just asked her to make a note of it.

The pizza itself was extremely average. None of the big flavours you would normally expect from a pizzeria. Unsure why this place is rated so well.

In the end, I would rather pay $5 for dominoes than $30 for this.
Richard James Lloyd
This place was near PowerStation so we visited just before a concert. We had the 4Cheeses and the Ham & Mushroom pizzas. Both were vert delicious. Great crust and flavours. The service was good.

I have no idea why this place has such good reviews.

I popped in on my way home to pick up dinner... A 'Tiramisu' and something else that just had bacon and choritzo as the toppings.

I paid $52 or something for these two pizzas, so I obviously expected some REALLY good pizza, for that amount of money.

They were awful.

The bases weren't cooked through, the cheese was only in the middle, the artichoke was in massive pieces, the olives were whole, with their stones in. The meat was sub-standard (the sausage was more like cheap salami than choritzo) and the amount of toppings in general was completely stingy.

For fifty bucks, I'd expect a well made pizza, with decent amount of good quality toppings. I'd definitely expect it to be cooked properly!

I emailed the place about it, and while, to his credit, the owner did offer a solution, it wasn't to send my vouchers or anything (although vouchers for food you can't eat isn't much of a solution), but that I had to come in and ask for him so he could try defend his terrible product some more before he would replace the pizzas. Needless to say, I didn't bother going back.

Pretty disappointing, when I'd heard such good things and paid so much money.
Shell
had dinner there tonight, me and my partner both thought it was fantastic, after reading all the positive reviews we decided to try it out, we ordered the special which was a scotch steak on top of a rocket salad a hawaiian pizza and foccacia bread, all were fantastic the steak was perfectly cooked and the pizza base was so yum! we also found the service there great and very welcoming, we will definitely be going back

Great pizza, the best I have eaten in Auckland. Compares to the pizza I've eaten in Italy. Great guys, friendly service. Could be a new Friday night addiction!! Crispy yet chewy base, great flavorsome toppings, great cheese, awesome charry mojo from the wood fired oven.
Tim Stevens
Got a pizza here on a voucher deal. Best pizza I have had in NZ bar none. The base makes a pizza and these guys have it down, crisp on the outside, soft and a little chewy on the inside all with the little bit of char and flavour you only get in a wood fired oven. Good simple toppings. Will definitely be going back and I recommend it to any fans of genuine italian style pizza.

Best pizza I have ever had. Ever. Amazing. Doesn't leave a greasy taste in your mouth, toppings are fresh and delicious, base is crispy and the pizza is soft on the inside, doesn't sit heavily in your stomach, yummm!!!

Al volo is the truly Italian Pizza in Auckland. The owner Giampiero is Neapolitan like me. His wood fired pizza remember the pizza back in Italy with same taste and look. The dough is light and the pizza is not greasy, easy to digest and it is topped with great ingredients for a taste that cant be beat. This is our favorite place for pizza. Keep up the good work!

Simply the best pizzas in Auckland. They are just so good! The authentic wood-fired style give their pizzas a wonderful flavour. The service is alway friendly and welcoming in true Italian style. A must go to place for the pizza fan!

Absolutely delicious. The owner is exceptionally rude, but the pizza is so, so, so good that you just have to ignore him. He shouted at me as I walked out the door "OI! YOU!!! Have you paid?!?!". Of course I had! I would not put up with the rudeness at most places - but oh my god, this is truly heavenly.

This is my favourite pizza in Auckland. Best with a group to get a few as all the pizzas are pretty simple and good to share; but all of them are true to the ingredients and manage to leave you without the "stuffed full of pizza" feeling if you can limit your slices (not easy). I like the funghi and gamberoni, but haven't had a dud.
