Review Jewel Of India - Auckland Central

Namaste Jewel of India ! Food was really good. Tomato puree flavor in chicken curry was awesome. not very spicy that's the good part about it. It's good to see that restaurant is not merely showing the picture of Taj Mahal to represent the Indian jewel . Overall the staff was courteous, hospitable and sweet. Punjabi guy had the enthu to make sure the service is good and made sure that I liked it or if something was to be added. Overall on ambience, I do feel there were a lot of tables packed in for seating capacity. Music was old Bollywood instrumental, nice music. All in all a good experience to have th food, fill in and go to enjoy a stroll and sunset on the beach. Cheers jewel of India. And yea, one last thing - there was no WiFi password shared. Which is a let down in today's age.

It was awesome dinner on my birthday night . I went first time. It was very tasty food & very good service by staff.

Definitely my favourite Indian Restaurant and arguably my favourite restaurant in general. I recommend the banquet to anyone that wants to experience a little bit of everything. For those who are interested in playing it a bit safer the butter chicken and mango chicken are incredible. Can’t wait to my next meal there.

This is my favourite local Indian restaurant, for both take away and dine in. The food is yummy, I often customise my dishes and they are always happy to accommodate for it. Staff is friendly and efficent with food served on time.

I came to this restaurant after so many years. Loved the ambience, staff & food. Definitely recommended in Mission Bay.

Very small restaurant but the quality of food is best .... Tasty and delicious. Great quality. Nice sitting of chairs. Very competitive prices compared to near costly Indian restaurant. I would love to go again.

Loved everything about this restaurant. The location, staff and environment was amazing. Definently one of the best India restaurants I've tried. Price was very reasonable as well. Would definitely visit again.

Delicious, delicious, delicious! Nothing else to add. Food is fantastic, service is great. Can be a little noise during busy dinner service, but nothing to worry. Each time we are there, I forgot to take pictures because I can't stop myself for a minute. Everything is very good. Service is great too.

A bit average really. They need to pick up their presentation, waiter served us in jeans! Need to dim those bright lights as well to better the atmospher. I had Goan Fish Curry and couldn't eastlish any fish taste and the pieces of fish were tiny!

We got a delivery a few months ago and... wow! The food was authentic, very tasty, and was still hot when delivered from Mission Bay to CBD. We thought it would be our go-to Indian takeaway after that, but it lost a star because the quality and portions since then have been pretty inconsistent. Avoid on Saturday nights.

Very tasty! Everything was nice and had decent flavor and a good amount of heat for a medium tikka masala. But, the tikka masala didn't have much depth of flavor--it mostly tasted of tomato and not much else. That said, I'd still recommend this for Indian in the area. It's also a great value--wine, a starter, curry, and naan was about $32 for one person.

We went to this amazing restaurant and it was a fabulous experience the service was great, the food was delicious. we ordered bhuna lamb, sahi paneer and chicken kolhapuri. Me and my family had a great time there. Highly recommend if you want an authentic indian cuisine.

Excellent food. Authentic potato curry love it. Nice and clean restaurant with good staff.

These guys do one of the best Biryani dishes around. Always consistently yummy, as are most of their other dishes. Just a tip - “medium” spice level is more like hot - very hot sometimes (and my husband can handle his spice!).

Week night dinner , tuck in amongst other eateries in mission bay , the usual Indian restaurant vibe , nothing too special , tried their butter chicken and spinach lamb , average curry, with Zomato gold it’s good deal.

Thought we try this restaurant after seeing they were on ZG. The food was extremely tasty and the portion size is same as other Indian restaurants. They cater for different tastebuds by allowing you to order the different level of spiciness. They also have promotional offers during the week so will be as cheap as ZG.

Went to this restaurant to have a late lunch with my family. This was my third visit so far. You can easily missed the entrance as it is located at the end of a long alley.<br/><br/>We choose the lunch set meal of $12.99 per person which includes a choice of curry (exclude seafood and Tandoori chicken), rice and a garlic naan.<br/>We chose Butter Chicken, Mango Chicken, Beef Korma and Chicken Saagwala.<br/>A complimentary Poppadoms were served.<br/>Meals were served promptly with ice water.<br/>Although we were the only customers in the restaurant, the waitress was very attentive.<br/><br/>The taste of the Mango Chicken and Butter Chicken were a little bit different than what we had before.<br/>The highlight of the dish was Chicken Saagwala (Spinach). Full of spinach blended in to puree.<br/>Overall we were satisfied with the meal and will come back again.<br/>Didn't realise the restaurant offer Zomato gold until we have ordered.

Best Indian for the price I have found in Auckland.

Can you ever really get good pic of curry tho???? Butter chick & lamb Korma @jewelofindiamissionbay the other night thanks to @zomatogold for this hidden gem (or jewel 😝). @jewelofindiamissionbay was such a treat spot, amazing service and such a beaut atmosphere & to top it all off the food was a solid 10/10 - I’m a big butter chick fan & I think this place is the best I’ve ever had, tired the lamb korma to be adventurous (lol) & we both loved it, sweet and yummy!! 🍽💎 curry > everything 😜
Adrianna
The $12.99 lunch combo came with your choice of curry, garlic naan and rice.

Jewel of India was not exactly sparkling like a jewel. We arrived earlier than the booked time we made the reservation for, and were seated at the back of the restaurant. <br/><br/>The waitress was not what I would call welcoming, but had a very bored and tired personality. <br/>Whilst seated at our table we noted the corners of the glass table top were chipped and the table cloth underneath stained from previous diners. <br/><br/>The wine glasses we stained and marked with lipstick and finger prints. The cutlery wasn’t cleaned and had food stuck on two of the knives, so we swapped them with the vacant table next to us.<br/><br/>The food once it arrived was nice and hot and the flavours were delicious. So top marks for that.<br/>However, upon leaving we noticed a half dead cockroach left on the floor in the other half of the restaurant where there were no diners seated. Possibly the reason why we were seated where we were? <br/><br/>The bathroom needs a serious overhaul. Particularly around the sink and toilet floor.<br/><br/>In an answer, we won’t be returning any time soon, which is sad because we had a positive experience before this visit which is why we decided to return this time.

We’ve been here multiple times and never had any issues however we haven’t been here in a couple of months and noted their Mon-Wed special have increased to $12.99 from $10. They previously also never charged for extra rice (as they only give you a small bowl of rice to share between 2 people to start with) but this time they charged $3 per rice bowl refill which we weren’t aware about until it came to paying the bill. They should’ve told us about the charge when we requested for the extra rice. Also, they should be giving more rice to start with if that’s the case.
Avi Yabaluri
Surprisingly distinctive & great flavour!<br/><br/>The staff are doing their jobs well and are accommodating.<br/><br/>Good quantity for a couple to dine-in on. 2 curries, 2 na'an and the (free) rice did us good!
Katy Schultz
I get dinner from here almost once a week due to its cheap M-W deals. The price has recently increased from $10 to $13 for mains. Still worth the price. You can easily stretch the portions to have dinner one night and lunch the next day.<br/>I love the Balti Chicken, garlic naan, and onion baji. <br/><br/>Although the ambiance of the restaurant is nice, I highly recommend the takeout option for cold winter nights snuggled next to the heater while rewatching Harry Potter.
Cil Van Den Brink
We loved the food, it was not amazing but the Quality was Good enough and they don’t charge for extra Rice! Wine is from 7$ and up, cheap compared to other places!
Jason Jost
Tonight I went with the Butter Chicken which was nice. The chicken was a bit dry for my liking but well worth the price. This place has mains for $10 Monday - Wednesday making them not only the cheapest place in Mission Bay but probably the cheapest restaurant in Auckland this New Year’s Eve.
Ankita Langa
We tried the paneer tikka masala, it had perfectly balanced flavours, not too spicy nor too creamy. I felt that the portion was not justified by the price and they could be a little more generous with the paneer.<br/><br/>Cheese garlic naan was pipping hot, fluffy and buttery just how it should be. Rice was complimentary with the curry, just how it is everywhere in NZ.<br/><br/>Staff was okay, they really need to learn friendliness towards customers because it makes the overall dining experience better. Indifferent staff who won't smile, doesn't make the best impression.<br/><br/>Ambience is nice with paintings and all but the place definitely needs an overhaul.
Mike G.
Ordered<br/>lamb masala<br/>Butter chicken<br/><br/>Entree kebabs . They were nice but a little watery<br/><br/>Masala. Generally it's a brown dish not a redish one<br/><br/>Butter chicken was tomato something<br/><br/>Its definately not upto scratch. Mediocre service but just a little too filthy for us<br/><br/>Haven't really taken pictures of a restaurant floor before.. and the dark ambience lighting hides a lot.. but seriously.. give a clean<br/><br/>Food flavors subpar.<br/><br/>Nice waiting staff.. but really not worth the $<br/><br/>
Nusaiba AD
Terrible. No Authentic taste. Strong awful smell inside the shop. Naan bread not soft as it should be at all and tasted like nothing. Biryani, hopeless, tasteless and had whole spices you couldn’t eat a spoon full without spitting something bitter out.
Shanelle Sanson
Generally the best curry around. <br/><br/>They can be quite inconsistent at times, particularly the spice level (medium can literally mean anything). <br/><br/>Garlic Naan is good. <br/><br/>Paneer Tikka Masala is my go-to dish. <br/>
Christopher Pearce
The service here was absolutely shocking. We had to get the waiter's attention when we wanted to order. Both for drinks and meals. Of which they tasted so-so. Will not be returning.
Annie Wilson
Mon, Tues, Wed is $10 night which is great for after work or a catch up with friends. Their food seems to always be fresh and taste amazing. I also enjoy their nan bread which is always so fresh and to die for. <br/>Great service and quite a big restaurant hidden down a little alley.<br/><br/>There's another Indian a couple hundred metres up the road so please don't get them confused
Briar Colville
Always delicious food (amazing Naan!), friendly staff and warm environs! Great deals for Sunday through Wednesday - recommend for good Indian cuisine.
Zhalak.patel
Worse food ever. They call rice with sticky gravy as biryani as if they never had seen how biryani looks like. Earlier before few months was a good place to eat but now i think the food doesnt even worth $5.
Vinnie
My absolute favourite Indian restaurant. I always order the garlic naan, "kids" butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and the amazing tandoori lamb chops. The staff here are very pleasant. Especially one of the waiters - Kunal. He's absolutely wonderful- always smiling and welcoming (and he remembers my order off by heart haha). Would love to see changes in the music, ambience , and decor. Apart from that , wonderful food .. wonderful service. Thank you x
Charlenemasoe036
This small restaurant packs a mighty punch when it comes to flavour! Their wide selection of dishes means everyone will find something they love and their friendly service means it's perfect place for a family dinner out. Our pick? Lamb roganjosh with cheesy naan was delicious. <br/>Thanks to team , will definitely come back.

The most horrible rice ever.....come on Jewel of India why would you use some seriously cheap low grade Thai rice?? You used to have good rice, why change it?<br/>I bought 4 dishes and you could have put all the meat from the 4 dishes into one container and still had room. The sauces/gravy to meat ratio was ridiculous. Overall poor value for money.
Polash Shariful Hasan
Got chance for the first time try their food. Took 2 chicken curry. One was chilli chicken dry which was good in taste. Expected more amount of this item. But didn't like chicken tikka masala taste at all. This item amount was fine.
Tavita Milford
Never have I ever tasted great Butter Chicken like this one. The sauce, the chicken was ultra satisfying along and to top it off with some rice and Naan bread. <br/><br/>Despite it being a evening at the time I was there, it was not as busy. Which meant my order came in quite quickly. The staff over there were so friendly and kind when they brought the food over.<br/><br/>Going inside, it looks like a European restaurant minus the scent of the food. Tables and chairs are similar to those layouts of a typical european restaurant which I think is pretty clever.
NevB
Have been here a couple of times recently and am sorry to say that the food was disappointing.  On the most recent visit (takeaway) the curry (Saag Paneer) was bland and the rice was dry and dull. I think Saag Paneer is a real test of skill and when cooked with care and imagination can be amazing. Unfortunately on this occasion it was bland and uninteresting. Curry 2/5, Rice 2/5, Cheese Naan 4/5

I had heard about this restaurant and wanted to give it a try. The food was pretty good, but my mates and i were a little put off by the grubby plates, food crumbs all over the carpeted floor and dirty wine glasses. If it was just one wine glass i may not be so fussed, but all of our wine glasses were smudgy. The staff were friendly enough, but it makes you wonder how clean it is in the kitchen.

We had a great lunch yesterday with my family of 8 people, we were here for the first time. it was so amazing time for us. We were so hungry and looking for a good meal at mission bay. Hi <br/>Especially thanks to Manager and all staff who works in Jewel of India Resturant in Mission Bay.<br/><br/>I had lunch and dinner so many time on this resturant. <br/>Me and my friends have amazing time there.<br/>The resturant was exceptional, not only because every meal we enjoyed had a variety of options and was flavourful but also the because of the affordable price. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. <br/><br/>The service provided by staff was awesome and service was with great smile, helpful and friendly .<br/>The manager who worked there was so kind and responsible in his work and love his co- worker.<br/><br/>The food was fresh, properly prepared and well presented. Me and colleagues loves the foods and services. <br/>I hope there are lost of Authenticate around Auckland but I love Jewel of India because its nice, delicious and healthy for health. <br/><br/>Once again I want to thanks all of them from my bottom of my heart. <br/> <br/>

Wasn't really a good experience, came here to have dinner with my wife from Blockhouse Bay after some good reviews. We started with Entrees and it wasn't good at all and was just full of red chilli. We asked them to change it but they first refused and only after we cancelled our mains order they went in to change it, it was better than before but still not good. <br/><br/>We then got our mains and even in the mains we got our breads wrong and after pointing out they changed it which delayed our dinner. When we went out to pay our bill nobody had any courtesy to even apologise for the bad experience. So overall not happy. Won't go there again probably and will not recommend to any of my friend as well.

The only reason we dined here is for the $10 dinner mains. Warning people in advance that 'with appauling service' should've been written in the board as well. Food was average, staff were rude and took 25 mins to come to our table after talking to the one infront of us.<br/>1. Special treatment for regulars shouldn't require having others IGNORED.<br/>2. Hesitated to ask the chef if something could be added, straight away said no. Didnt bother checking after a drink request was placed, hesitated and said no.<br/>3. After our meals the waitress only asked my partner if his meal was alright and not mine..after getting up to leave, she pushed through my partner with dirty plates and cutlery and I mean PUSHED!!, when it came to pay, again asked my partner and not me if his meal was alright. Will NEVER be going back as I have never encountered such RUDE staff ever. My connections have also been warned. Also please don't be fooled my the 5 stars as if you scroll down lots of people have complained about their customer service.

Tried several of their curries, all tasted very good, especially their chicken tikka masala. Portion size would probably be filling for most, however, for me I could have eaten more. Our group of five managed to destroy 5 curries with naan and rice despite my friend who had eaten their before insisting 4 was enough. Hah. Service was amazing, super nice and generous. They fetched a charger for my friends phone and gave us an extra portion of rice for free!!! The restaurant was clean, tidy and looked great.

This is one of the better Indian restaurants. They all seem to have the same menu, and very friendly service. this one just has a better chef. <br/><br/>JOI is my Tuesday dinner favorite and for $10 mains it's hard to beat. I think the $10 mains is on Monday to Wednesday but even at the standard $15 main price, it's still up there with the best of them.

Easy to place an order  Food was already to be picked up. Monday  The food good and service good only negative thought was not quite enough malai kofta only two pees  paneer tikka masala is good and saag paneer is good  and naan also good .

Very enjoyable meal. <br/>Nice to have the authentic bolliwood movies on the screens. <br/>Host was happy to explain meals and spice levels. <br/>All our table of 8 liked their meals. <br/>Great service too. <br/>

Had been to Jewel of India yesterday with a group of friends it was really nice food we had around 9 curries on the table and I am happy that each one was really nice especially the goat curry , chilli chicken and chicken saagwala they had amazing flavours and was made to perfection. The service was really nice, very efficient and humble. They are a really nice place to have some good indian curries and are doing a very good job at it will definitely be back and will also recommend it others also well done guys .

We dined here for lunch with friends visiting from California and had a really positive experience. The food was absolutely delicious (and a great price) and the service was very warm and friendly. The restaurant itself is inviting and has very comfortable chairs (perfect for a long lunch!). Read the rest of my review and see photos on my blog, lipsmackingfood.com.

My wife and i have been a couple of times. Great value for some great curry. We were delighted to find the $10 lunch special. They even brought out a high seat for our daughter, and got her to laugh by letting her wear a foldee napkin as a hat. It was pretty cute.
Erica Patterson
We come here almost every week on their $10 curry nights! We usually have a group of 7-8 pax and most of the time our order is correct. Very good value for money and the staff are very friendly. The duty manager is awesome and always has a few jokes with us whenever we visit. :)
Jayden Campbell
Fantastic location and lovely decor, more importantly though is the great food. The chilly chicken is one of the best I've had in NZ. I recommend taking your misses here for dinner than taking stroll on the beach.

loooove this place! It is my first time i have indian food, the waitors just patient and recommend us propriate dishes. I love the food, especially bread and scolope. Waiter came to make sure we like the dishes he recommend, so sweet!

If eating good food is a religion, this restaurant is my temple. On my religious quest to try everything on the menu and the portions per meal are overwhelmingly filling. <br/>5 stars for the unique flavours the chefs produce.<br/>5 stars for the staff and their hard work and smiles.<br/>5 stars for easy parking.<br/>1 star for my stomach because I can't have 2 curries or ill die from bloat.<br/>Highly recommended.<br/>Great $10 mon-wed value.<br/>I would cry if this place disappeared.

I am no way an Indian cuisine professional. But I still get disappointed in numerous occasions where I go to an Indian restaurant with friends and family ordering 6 different dishes and all dishes seems to be using the same base with different spices. I am sure with a country of long history and so many different religion and culture surely there's more to offer.<br/><br/>Jewel of India Mission Bay is different. This is the only place in NZ where I can actually try all their different dishes in their extensive curry and paste range where all dishes are different and sort after. It surprises me (good) everytime and I been here on a weekly basis for the past year and a half. It is a journey for our palate everytime. Chefs here really know what they are doing. Sometimes the friendly staffs will treat us with special spices shall they have it in stock to jazz the dishes up.<br/><br/>Speaking of friendly staffs, they are really friendly. Not in a way that they are forced to because they work in Hospo, but they really do show their kindness and to make sure your experience is as pleasant as possible. The place is also tidy, clean, free from odor and relaxing. I once saw a couple of really nasty customers complaining about everything and even I wanted to go to the table and ask them to leave but the staffs were true professionals and held it together. Friendly all the way. Big thumbs up.<br/><br/>Along with easy parking (which has nothing to do with the food but it's a bonus) I will continue to come here. Yes they do have a really good deal on Monday to Wednesday where they offer $10 mains on most dishes but sometimes I will opt for the non $10 dishes because realistically, all the dishes are so good and service is top notch that $10 really doesn't justify it's value.

To begin with, I should say that Jewel of India has been under new management for quite a while now, therefore when I was reading some of the really old reviews here in zomato I got quite confused with their comments. <br/><br/>It took me a while to actually discover this jewel. Even though I live in the area and had always heard of Jewel of India, I always ended up going somewhere else only because I was so wrong about myself the whole time! <br/><br/>This restaurant is located at the end of mission bay (Towards CBD) on Tamaki Drive. It is behind a few shops but the sign should be clear enough to guide you to this exotic wonderland! <br/>I have finally managed to try this place for more than a year now. And I have been their regular customer ever since. <br/><br/>Not only is it clean and cosy, it's also a good place to enjoy a decent deal of $10 curry main + rice between every Monday and Wednesday. This deal is also valid during lunch time, though I'm not sure if it is daily or also Monday-Wednesday and that if it includes a drink. Since I only go there in the evening.<br/><br/>I can guarantee you, however, that all the curries/dish that are listed in the 10-page menu taste DIFFERENT. Which seems to be something that I feel obliged to mention to you because of the almost homogenous flavour of the curries that many Indian restaurants tend to serve...<br/><br/>Call me indecisive, but you will understand me once you are seated in the restaurant trying to figure out what you want to try! It is really hard to pick my favourite curry. Apart from the all time favourite butter chicken and lamb/beef korma, Saag Paneer is a good option for those who are wanting something slightly lighter or vegetarian. It is basically Indian cottage cheese with spinach paste, and it is sooo yummy! Another vegetarian option would be Malai Kofta. Which is a fried mashed marinated potato yellow curry. This one is a bit sweeter and has a very teeny bit of heat even if you only order it mild. <br/><br/>If you are wanting something more spicy, I recommend Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, or the Goat Curry. There are heaps more spicy goodies but I think I won't give you too much spoilers :) <br/>Not to mention, the Cheese and Garlic Naans are a must to dip into the curries!!! <br/><br/>By the way, no I'm not reading the names of the dish off the zomato app, I actually remember what they have! Haha that's how addicted I am to their curries! And I will post some photos up next week when I visit the restaurant again. So just self-promoting here for a sec - follow me on zomato and get tuned! I write a food blog too and the link is in my profile :) #FeelingSneaky<br/><br/>Also, I have learnt that it is not recommended to change the curries that are stated as median or hot into mild. Because that would mean asking them to take away certain spices, changing the whole purpose of listing that curry on the menu. It is the principle of making original and authentic (or so I think) Indian food that keeps me coming here every week! <br/><br/>To conclude, the managing director Harman is super friendly and his sense of humour is probably one of the main reasons you should visit this restaurant. The staffs are all smart and efficient, and they will never fail to put a smile on their/ your face :) Mango Lassi is always my mum' favourite non-alcoholic beverage to order, and I don't think my family and I will stop visiting this restaurant unless we happen to be overseas!!

Good food - decent service - not very pricy.<br/>Amazing location as you have the beach, move n pick and so many cool things near by ( has to be Mission bay )<br/>will come back here? - yes!

My wife and I have frequented numerous Indian restaurants in several countries around the world and consider ourselves hooked on Indian food. It goes without saying that a restaurant is only as good as its chef's capabilities, along with friendly staff, ambiance and a clean bathroom. These are all very important to us, and we find all of these elements at the Jewel of India, Mission Bay. If you are looking for authentic Indian food in a tidy, clean and friendly environment, then we highly recommend this restaurant. We have now been going to the Jewel of India for about 3 years on a regular basis, and we've never had a meal we did not enjoy. With considerate staff who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and with a chef who provides a truly Indian cuisine experience, we are definitely satisfied customers. In fact, the litmus test for us when we first go to an Indian restaurant is to look for other Indians eating there. If there are no Indians it's usually a bad sign.Being that there are regular discerning Indian patrons at Jewel of India confirms to us the food is rated at an excellent standard. We've got nothing but good things to say about this restaurant and that's why we keep going back. Highly recommended.

We go to the Jewel of India Mission Bay once a week and have done so for some time.  The staff are friendly and helpful, the curries are delicious and we thoroughly enjoy ourselves!

Best Indian food ever. Love the mango chicken. Great service and very friendly staff, Harman is a great waiter. And the price is very good as well.

We come to this restaurant often now after many years absence after it became run down. The decor is a great improvement on what it once was. The food is very tasty and excellent value for money. The ambience is pleasant and the staff very friendly. They cater well for vegetarians.

Went to this restaurant for the first time. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Will definitely be going back there. Found the medium curry not to be too hot, just right.

Love this place! We come regularly and always a great experience :) Absolutely delicious food, beautiful interior and wonderful friendly service always. Highly recommend! :)<br/>

I have been here twice and really enjoyed it both times. The staff are very friendly and professional and made us feel at home. <br/>The food is delicious and the portions are generous.<br/>Both times we were given complimentary naan and my friend's ice cream came free of charge. I will definitely be back!<br/>Lucy

What a great little venue. It's a little hard to spot hidden down a walkway between a couple of other shops but worth finding.<br/><br/>The menu is extensive so come with either an open mind or a go-to meal choice ready. The naan are fluffy and sweet, the dishes can be as spicey or tame as you like. My only gripe was the small amount of rice served compared to the main. Crazy to say it I know but I'd rather run short of sauce for my rice then rice for my sauce.<br/><br/>Highly recommend.

Oh we love this little charming Indian Restaurant. The food is great and if you have any wishes, it is not a problem to change it to your needs. ( I can't eat chicken, so I get Butter Mushroom and Veggie ) <br/>The vouchers are great to use. You get you Curry, Rice and Wine for such a low price. The bread is fresh made and you can taste the difference.<br/>Yes the decor is a little bit tired - like people like to write here - but we must say, that is what gives this little Restaurant all its charm. I wouldn't change it one bit. The service is excellent, very friendly and supportive. Yes, also we had little hick ups in the beginning with the new staff but we never saw it as a reason not to come back. Everything is leaning by doing.<br/>Just tell the cook, that you weren't happy and tell him why, only that way he/she can improve. <br/>The food is fresh cooked and shows quality and not quantity. <br/>We really miss the good taste of India... Isabell &amp; Guillaume<br/>( we visited this Restaurant for the past 18 months . 1x a week and yes it improved a lot )

I brought one of those deal vouchers for this restaurant as I usually love Indian food and thought this would be a great treat. How disappointed was I, the food was not very good. I could not taste any seafood in my curry and my son could not eat his buttered chicken, which he normally loves. Was extremely disappointed. Would not eat here again.
Karen
We have been to this restaurant a few times. The decor is very tired and the meals usually late but food is usually ok. <br/>This restaurant does not know the meaning of customer service. For this restaurant customer service does not exist. <br/>I have a voucher that I was going to use Monday as it was my grandson's birthday however he got sick and we weren't able to go to dinner. He was better today so I phoned to see if I could use the voucher today as it ran out yesterday. No way would they even consider this. They blamed the company we bought the voucher from saying it wouldn't honour the voucher when we know they would. Pity as reading the other comments it looks like Jewel of India could do with the business. I told the manager we wouldn't come back and we'd give them bad feedback. She just said go ahead. Hence the feedback and we won't ever go back.
Julie Courtnell
Decor is pretty bad but food is/was better than the opposition. Recent visit will be last as service was appalling. Had $15 special menu and asked if could pay extra to upgrade the naan bread. Was absolutely refused (hello - I wasn't expecting it for free)!! Stood my ground as didn't make any sense whatsoever, then after bit of heated 'debate' offered what I wanted at pretty much full menu price. Declined on principle due to completely unnecessary angst experienced and pure idiocracy of waiter, who then, with colleague sniggered at me for the duration of our time there. Think this place has changed hands in previous 12 months as (being a local) haven't had such bad service there previously. Won't be going back. Good luck Jewel of India - you're going to need it with your bad decor, even worse service and what is clearly a similar trend of feedback from customers!!!

Food was good, great value for the $15 meal with wine, just a shame the service let it down, it wasn't that they wernt polite or trying it was the fact our entree came out 5 mins after we began eating our main and my partner asked for diet coke (as he is a T1 diabetic) and got given coke! It was quite a mission to get them to find something sugar free as I don't think they understood what the basics of type 1 diabetes is (no sugar!)<br/>We would go back on a $15 night but at least we know what to expect.

We went there on last Saturday and wasn't good at all the service very poor and the food came very late. The worst staff ever I have seen, bad experience.

Worst customer service ever.... when I was ordering the staff on the counter was doing something else ..his mind was somewhere else plus he took the order of takeaway when I told him 3 times that I want to dine in... after the order was taken he started fussing about that we ordered for the dinner to be taken away. After a while he said ok, we will give you a table for 45 min and won't charge extra... I was so pissed off with him and it was the Valentine's Day. .we got a table and b4 45min we were goin out .. he stopped us and said that we have a pay extra cuz we dined in and dint take it out .... So what was the use of sitting in the corner table , and we were given time to eat.... And when we finished eating they told us to pay extra....How stupid is that??...customer service in this resturant is so bad... I would never go to this restaurant again....

This is a great little resturant I frequent with friends for dinner. They have happily accommodated just myself and a girlfriend, up to 16 of us. Great food and vegetarian options. The staff are polite and conscientious, delivering food promptly, making sure you always have a drink and checking in on you. Highly reccommended for a mid week catch up with friends

Worst customer service EVER! the $15 "special" is a joke. We opted for this and got a small bowl with very little in it. compared to the other main meals, Not even half the size. Quality was very average, and my wife thought her chicken was not cooked properly. The manager was a moron and I ended up wanting to leave without paying (but didnt) i was so insensed by his complete lack of customer service skills. I left feeling ripped off and will never go back.... Unfortunately, i had to give 1 star.

Have been to quite a few Indian restaurants in Auckland but this was probably the worst.<br/>The service was pretty bad as I had to keep asking if my food was ready. The waiter provided only 1 plate for entree and main course. When I asked him to change the plate, he rudely asked me "Why!! Whats wrong with this plate?"<br/>Ordered 2 mango lassi, first one came with a topping, the 2nd one didnt. Curry provided was too less and too sweet (in spite of telling the waiter to make it hot). <br/>Never going back there.

Great staff, great food, a shame about the decor...

The place was nice but a bit too dark. The waiters were friendly. The food was nice but the amount of curry served was too small, while the naans were huge, so we ended up with too much bread left over and no curry to dip it in. Overall it was ok, but I have been to better Indian restaurants.

Nice food, tasty enough. I usually have a takeaway on account of the decor.

This is my first visit to Jewel of India, I have been to Mission Bay many times but did not know about this Indian restaurant, hidden Jewel in Mission Bay. Begin my self Indian I would say food was xcelent, and I also found the staff is very friendly will love to go again &amp; again. It is the place I would recommend to others if you want to have authentic food you should go to this place. One thing I did not like one thing that is passage is bit dark need some more lights in corridor.

This place is one of our favourites! Small but with a great atmosphere, beautiful food that can't be faulted and friendly, helpful staff. Good prices! If you love Indian cuisine, I highly recommend Jewel of India.
