I had never been before so had to read reviews to make sure it was ok! Food was delicious except I did not overly enjoy the seafood gnocchi :(.... Garlic pizza bread was outstanding as was the vegetarian burrata! I will be back as the espresso martinis looked amazing as was their pizza which I had a slice of

Papas has always had incredibly welcoming staff and cosy environment. I've been going for over ten years, with both family, friends, and on dates. The food is great and reasonably priced. My flatmates regularly get take-away food from Papa's for their dinner, although dining provides a great atmosphere and more options for the food (the last dish I had there was a pulled pork ravioli special). Because we live close, I'll often relax in the garden bar / courtyard with a beer after work. There's a reason Papas has been there for over 30 years- it's a fantastic 'Local'.

That Gnocchi and Risotto is amazing. Great atmosphere and always a pleasure going back. - their food is always amazing - great spot for a nice dinner. Staff is super friendly and make you feel apart of the family. Thank you team

Incredibly welcoming and friendly. Super accommodating. Amazing food. Canā€™t wait to come back.

I had Uber Eats and my pizza was delivered like this. I think you need to come up with better packaging. Lucky it wasnā€™t something soupy. Anyway taste was awesome! Especially the bolognese pasta was the best ever:)

Excellent pizzas, brilliant service, prompt and on the button group of staff. For $24 you get one of the best pzzias in AKL, my only tip is to ask them to cook it well. Photo is the Gambino pizza large size and our half eaten polenta.

Awesome service and great food. Thursday is recommended as certain drinks are cheap. The atmosphere is very family friendly and very welcoming.

When I first moved into the area and saw this place on the corner I hoped they might have something I could eat... (I have coeliac disease *and* I'm vegetarian). Lo and behold they have delicious gluten free vegetarian pizza!! I also saw that there's pasta on the menu (I love pasta, it's my absolute favourite comfort food!!), and there was even gluten free pasta, and vegetarian pasta... but none that was both gluten free *and* vegetarian... One day I got up the courage and asked if there was any chance they could make some pasta that was both... and they said sure! They've been amazingly obliging, to the point that the chef, Sai, now knows my order perfectly and all I need to do is call up and give them my name and he'll start to make it (a nice creamy sauce, with cheese and spinach and mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes, and sometimes olives, and... oh it's delicious!!). Everyone there is incredibly friendly and I'm so glad I have food so close by that's so very yummy and that I can actually eat, with such friendly people. Thank you all so much!!!

Filled with a warm and relaxed environment employees with great customer service, along with delicious food, Papas Pizza is a family friendly place that will leave you full and satisfied. Although a tad expensive, the meal is totally worth it ļæ½

Been there for this weekend for dinner ,nice and warm inside. We were sitting near to the woodfire inside . Papas pizza is my first preference when it come's to take away the pizza, but this time for change I have tried the blackboard special ,lamb ragu ,which was delicious , and the menu was changed as well , were have noticed hand made pastas , slow cooked meats, When time to pay the bill , had a small chat with the chef's in the front ,then I got realise that this place is not only pizza ,there is much more going in side Well I have tried the food most of the places in kingsland, but I say papas have the better and qualified 'chefs' Coming back soon

Incredible! I was a wee bit disappointed that they had run out of pork belly, but the ravioli more than made up for it. Obviously I'll just have to keep going back to see if they have pork belly. The staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. Absolutely going back!

Chef is the goodest lad out there. Sparks up some absolutely beautiful italian cuisine. great atmosphere. would recommend

Haven't been for 14 years as we have been in Australia so delighted to go back and had great quality pizzas and food, and very friendly service. Can't wait to go back , such good memories as we use to take our staff there and often had the upstairs room

Average pizza for $24. Lacked flavour. The chef said the pizza we choose was full of flavour. Nothing more special than a cheap Pizza Hut pizza. But with anchovies!
Karen Laurie
Food and service was good, wine selection good. Was my first visit for 16 years, so nice to see the same owners. More vegetarian pizza choices would be nice.

We came in last night and had dinner the place was empty but we were rushed through and didnt even get offered dessert we felt like we were a pain .. so sad cause its so local ...

Took over half an hour for the drinks we ordered to be brought to us, this being after I had to approach the kitchen. Food was mediocre and service was terrible. Hope they change something because I'm no longer willing to recommend this place to friends.

Loved this place! Most amazing pastas and lovely atmosphere. Got our orders wrong but couldnā€™t care less because everything was amazing!

Always wanted to try this and now I wished I'd been sooner. Such a lovely rustic outdoor area with old songs playing and happy staff running around everywhere. Food was tasty and every dish I saw traveling past me looked yum. Great drinks deals and interesting specials. A very mixed group of people around us so this place clearly loved by everyone. Can't wait to come back and will be recommending it to every one.

Such a cute hidden gem! Papaā€™s is away from the main hustle and bustle of Mt Eden and in a more local neighbourhood area. Came on a date with my boyfriend here and Iā€™m definitely adding Papaā€™s to my collection of my favourite restaurants. The atmosphere was super romantic, especially the outdoor area and itā€™s so perfect for a hot summer day! The service was efficient and food came out at an awesome pace. <br/><br/>We got the garlic pizza bread and tostada pizza. My favourite was definitely the tostada because I found the garlic pizza bread to be a bit under-seasoned in terms of not being salty enough but I loved how they had chunks of garlic in it to make sure the vampires stay away. The tostada was awesome! All the ingredients were super fresh and addicting, went super well together and I highly recommend this pizza<br/><br/>Iā€™d definitely be back without a doubt to try pasta and other pizzas but I will recommend papaā€™s to everyone else.

Ambience was really nice, a backyard kind of feel with fairy lights. The pizzaā€™s although having a thin base had quite bland toppings. The pollo al burro- tandoori chicken pizza had a mint yoghurt taste which was unfamiliar and almost strange on a pizza. The papas pollo- pesto chicken with caremilised onion tasted far too sweet. The $14 salad with little greenery and thick pieces of rubbery cheese that tasted like tofu was a rip off. The spaghetti Bolognese was really disappointing with little mince and mostly tomato paste. The calamari had such thick fried coating so overpowered the squid and the garlic bread was just a cheesy pizza, not what we hoped for. The only saving graces were the bacon and mushroom Fettuccine which was really gorgeous and creamy with generous pieces of mushroom and the linguine meatball which were really nicely cooked and tasty. Iā€™d definitely come back for their Thursday pasta special but would give their pizzaā€™s a miss
Smharpz
Came here for the $20 pasta and wine night. We got the spinach and mushroom fettuccine, spag bol and puttanesca. We also got the arranccini of the day and the pesto garlic pizza bread. The food was outstanding! So recommend coming here. <br/><br/>One of the servers was a little abrupt which is keeping me from calling it a 5 but otherwise it was amazing!

My family and I came to Papas Italian eatery for Fatherā€™s Day earlier this year. Italian is my dads favourite food but My little brother is anaphylactic to Dairy and nuts and since I know Italian food is full of dairy, I called prior to check if they would be able or had the capacity to cater to him, because I know how restaurants can be, the kind lady welcomed us fully and told us that pots and pans would be cleaned to cater for him and that everything would be totally fine. So we booked a table and went over. When we entered the restaurant it was nice and cute but when we told the name for our booking, they didnā€™t have it, which worried me because thatā€™s where the lady said sheā€™d told everyone about our situation for my little brother. When I then told the lady again that my brother was ā€œallergicā€ to dairy (because lots of people donā€™t know what anaphylaxis means) she then goes to say ā€œoh so heā€™s gluten freeā€ I looked at my family with surprise and said ā€œno. Heā€™s not allowed dairyā€ she said sure no worries but I wasnā€™t convinced. <br/><br/>Long story short, another lady came to take our order, we drilled into her that heā€™s not allowed dairy and nuts, yet his dish came out covered in cream and butter. We then approached another waitress who then confidently said ā€œthereā€™s no dairy on thatā€ as if we were stupid. <br/><br/>If my little brother had eaten that, after she said that, and had a reaction and got sent to hospital, we couldā€™ve sued. <br/><br/>But instead we told the waitress AGAIN, to try the plate and double check. And ofcourse she came back apologising and made us a new plate. <br/><br/>The waitresses and chefs at this place need to learn that they should not say they CAN cater to dietary needs and then not put in the steps to do so.
Andy
A real vibrant place to visit, particularly during the evening. The venue isn't too glamorous, but that only fits in with the cozy atmosphere. Very attentive customer service, and food that tastes great every time! Takeaway options are available.

The lamb was tasty and I love mashed potatoes very much . The Pizza was anormal flavor and can be improved upon for some flavors.

Wow where do I start! <br/>The staff were amazing we got there just as it opened and they were setting up food photography and after they were done they offered if we wanted anything it was so sweet. I was greeted by the lovely owner and he had a huge smile on his face!!<br/><br/>I trusted him making me a really lovely lemon and passion fruit cocktail which was strong but the best cocktail I have ever tried šŸ˜<br/><br/>Such an amazing atmosphere food was amazing there prawn pizza was šŸ’ÆšŸ’Æit was amazing thanks for the great hospitality will definitely come again!<br/>

Came here due to friendā€™s recommendation. Lovely place and vibe. The seafood gnocchi was really nice and the beef lasagna was great too. Food priced around 25$. Will come here again to try other dishes.
Stacey
Really cute homely atmosphere. Outdoor area is nice and intimate. We order the Beef lasagne and Papas Pollo pizza. The lasagne was really tasty and cheesy, tasted home made - it was great! The pizza was nice but lacked a bit in seasoning and flavour, could do with either more sauce or herbs and spices. Overall, a nice experience and I look forward to coming back!
Ciara
Came here with a friend when they were pretty quiet. Waitress was good but after waiting 30 mins for our pizzas they came over and told us the system had not printed off our order so it hadnā€™t gone through to the kitchen. Had to wait another 20 mins for the pizzas. Pizzas tasted ok but nothing special! Thought they might have given us a discount or even just offered us a drink or side while we were waiting but nothing. They also hurried us out with bringing over takeaway boxes when we were halfway through our pizzas as they were starting to get busy.

Soo gooood. Handmade Lamb Ravioli, Polenta chips, handmade Parpadelle, great atmosphere ,good, peoples place..soooo good!!Great beer selections complement the food. Pizzas were delicious , fresh, wholesome..Best Tiramisu in Auckland.

If you ever happen to pass this gem on the way to a rugby game at Eden Park, or youā€™re a local and have always wondered what sort of culinary experience youā€™re in for. Take all measures and visit Papas pizza. Beautiful Pizza, amazing pasta and even better Tiramisu. The courtyard set up is a neat and comfortable space, catered by a wonderful set of fairy lighting and a cosy tree posting up in the back of the yard, creating a more natural and mature atmosphere for your dining. The staff were really nice, even offering a blanket for us to enjoy our meal. They even served us a free platter of Polenta, which was a kind gesture from the chef. I cannot express how great this place is, especially when the more exposed restaurant businesses are only just up the road in Kingsland. Iā€™ve used Zomato for almost 3 years and this is the first review Iā€™ve written for on this app. Thank you for tonight Papas pizza.
Brigid Radich
Couldnā€™t recommend this place enough.<br/>If you havnā€™t been your missing out on some of the best Italian good in Auckland. I could eat here most nights, the food is fresh and authentic. Highly recommend the calamari, Mac and cheese, margarita pizza and bacon and mushroom fettuccine but you canā€™t really go wrong with anything on their menu. Warm and kind service always! Thanks for being my fave Italian!

We booked a table for 3 for 7.30 on Saturday night in the courtyard which has a great quirky atmosphere. We ordered two pizzas, a chicken parmigiana and a jug of Sangria . The Sangria took 20 minutes to arrive. 40 minutes later and still no food, I asked our waitress how long it would take. She went to the kitchen, came back and told us it would be 4 more minutes. Ten minutes later we still had no food so I asked the barman (who was the only other staff member around)what was happening. He said it wouldn't be long. Then another waitress appeared with a complimentary pizza bread explaining that we should have been told there was a long wait and that it would have been a good idea to order entrees. Quite a bizarre suggestion when we obviously only wanted a main course. The pizza bread was too little too late. We had taken one mouthful when our mains arrived. The place may have been crammed with people inside but the courtyard was only half full. I only booked the table on Saturday morning and had no trouble getting in. The waitress we had was obviously new and pretty out of her depth. For peak time on a Saturday night more experienced wait staff who could judge a situation earlier would have made a huge difference.

Came in tonight for pasta and pizza. Ordered a spaghetti alla zucca and ravioli of the day. Ravioli had a really creamy sauce and was delicious. It was stuffed with chicken inside and was extremely filling. As for the spaghetti, I really liked the texture of the pasta. The sauce was pretty good too. Atmosphere was relaxing.
Tuhouhia Weshem Pehi
Impressive anti-pasto platter to start with, but however our mains came out about 8 minutes apart between the two of us, pizza wasnā€™t that impressive for 25 dollars, (over cooked) , the pasta ( spaghetti alla zucca ) was nice . We were seated next to the stainless steel bar, and bar staff dropped/clanked glasses/plates which often gave us a fright which was quite unpleasant , atmosphere outside was lovely and heaters were nice. A good date space.

Such a nice place. We sat outside in the backyard even though it was quite cold, but the heaters kept us warm. Very friendly service and the food (especially the pasta) was delicious!

I had seen reviews and decided to give this place a try. For me I believe itā€™s to hyped up and over priced for a pizza. Paid about $50 for both pizza. Taste nothing out of the box. Pizzas that I have bought for lower price has more flavour n taste. The base of the pizza was very plain.

A really nice resturant that we often visit as a family.Ā <br/><br/>The food is very rich which is great for sharing as i dont think I personally could eat a whole dish on my own, nor would I want to beacuse all the food is great and I always want a little bit of everything!<br/><br/>All the ravioli dishes I've tried have been really tasty.<br/>The gnoochi is soft and pillow like, The pizza is also really good, as are the Gf base pizzas.Ā <br/><br/>Good place for tapas and drinks too.Ā <br/>Try their passionfruit mojitos you wont be disappointed (I hope!)
Mihee Park
Handmade Pasta were nice!! Pizza was good. Not too salty for me. Feel healthy and fresh dishes. I would like to visit again. I enjoyed their cocktail as well. I like their mojito.

The rain has finally abated and summer is arriving in Auckland. After leaving work on Friday and walking out into bright sunshine we decided to have a picnic in the garden. But could we be bothered going to the shops and purchasing all the food? The answer was a resounding no so we knew what we had to doā€¦ā€¦ā€¦
Luka Peterson
Such great food! Service is wonderful and a nice vibe to the place! Very happy with our meals, I got the scotch fillet and it was delicious. Large kids meals was able to share a mac and cheese between 2 kids.
Foodie Foodie
love this place and its amazing pizza! I ordered seafood pizza and the shrimp and prawm are so big! maybe that is why the price is higher than pizza hut but it definitely worth it. nice staff explained the special and beer menu. sad I move to another place, but will visit again when I pass by this area.

I waited 2 hours for my meal after being told to order starters because it would take 45 minutes for our food. The table across from us were given their starters, mains and deserts before we got our starters. I walked up to see how far off my dinner was going to be and there was a meal all over the floor in the kitchen. You NEED either a bigger space or more kitchen staff because this is not on. Then we were going to be charged $10 per plate to use for birthday cake after they took TWO HOURS for our meals, so we just used napkins. NOT HAPPY

Food was nice. Superb services. Strongly recommend friends to come back here again. I really like the dish called "Gnocchi". Highly recommended.šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

Had a wonderful evening with family and friends tonight. Upstairs was great with a relaxed atmosphere and suited us as we had an 8 month old with us. They provided a high chair and were very accommodating. The food was the best Italian I've had in years and the staff were lovely. We would definitely return to Papas Pizza!! Thanks Gail and your team.

I have been here a few times and it never ceases to amaze me. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. Servers were friendly and attentive. We ordered the chicken pizza twice in two separate occasions.. the first one was gluten free base and the second one was a normal base and they both tasted great! I cant wait to try everything in the menu! I highly recommend this place, whether you're just craving some pasta or you need some goooooood pizza šŸ•

Great atmosphere, staff, service and of course the FOOD! I've dined here a few times now, and never have been disappointed. Whether it's date night or a girls night out, it's a perfect place to enjoy a meal and a couple of drinks. ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†ā˜†

Ive been here a few times now and Im a big fan of their handmade pastas especially the gnocchi with beef cheek, they do really nice black board specials and mains. Prosciutto pizza was a hit too! Nice big courtyard with peroni on tap and very friendly staff. Such a hidden gem in the neighbourhood!

Been here twice and both times, the food was fantastic and the service was very friendly. Tonight, we had the calamari (4/5), meatball appetizer (4.5/5), gnocchi w beef cheeks (4/5) and polpette pizza (6/5!!!!!!!). Love this neighborhood joint.

Worst experience ever. Been here a few years ago and liked my last experience. Saw the grabone voucher so I bought it. It said two courses meal and mains could be selected off the mains and pasta menu. When me and my hubby got there, we were told we could order any pasta but only sirloin steak from the mains menu (was thinking about pork belly when I first bought the voucher, and there are four choices on the mains menu). I said it was definitely not in the grabone terms and conditions. They got the manager to talk to us. She said other items were too costly and put too much pressure on the kitchen staff. I said they should honour their deals. She said they didn't get all what the customers paid to grabone and we could apply for a refund from grabone if we weren't happy with the change of terms and conditions. (Well, not going to leave as we had driven all the way there) And she said we were angry when we were only reasoning with her that they should honour what they had stated.<br/><br/>In the end she checked with kitchen staff and finally said we could order lamb or chicken-- but still not pork belly. I chose gnocchi with beef cheek ragu and my hubby order chicken parmigiana.<br/><br/>Well we thought the food better be nice. But was definitely not impressed with the gnocchi in regards to texture and flavour and the beef cheek ragu was bland; the chick was ok only but the cauliflower was so rubbery and watery like it was from a frozen package.<br/><br/>Forgot to say they mistakingly gave my hubby's entree to someone else so he waited forever for them to redo his entree. And we waited so long for our mains too.<br/><br/>To summarise, 1 for the service and 1 for the food.

I love this place! Came here for the first time over the weekend for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere is so warm and cosy, the Pizza is amazing, highly recommend the Toscana it was to die for, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The waitress looking after us also turned out to be the owner, she spoke to us for a while and can tell she genuinely enjoys chatting with her customers and ensuring we were well looked after.Ā <br/>Highly recommend!!
Rachel McIntyre
This place is extremely disappointing especially after we had such high hopes! Came here over the weekend with my family and we bought a bunch a dishes to share. The food ended up being terrible. By the look of the place, we were expecting really great authentic Italian pizza and pasta. I have no idea how this place has decent reviews unless the standard has suddenly dropped in the last few months. <br/><br/>The pizzas were so oily and soggy, the pizza dough didn't even taste properly cooked. We ordered the lasagna and cannoli as well, the sauce tasted basically like pure tomato paste or sauce out of a can and was very bland, we ended up pouring on lots of salt. So over priced for what it is. The only reason I'm giving a 1.5 is because the place looks cute inside, that's all. When we mentioned to the server that the food wasn't great and was bland, she became very defensive. She had terrible service, was not attentive and did not apologise whatsoever. It was such a waste of money and an awful experience, we definitely won't be coming back!

I really like this place, feels like home, delicious and warm food never takes long, friendly staff, good service, Ā  quality Ā  and great environment . AAA+++++
Bec
I really really wanted to love this place, hence why I've given it 3 shots! But each time has been more disappointing than the last and I most definitely won't be trying this place again! <br/>We just moved and are about a 10 min walk from this place. We were so excited when we saw this place because it looked like a cute authentic Italian restaurant and like it would have amazing food. We were totally wrong. <br/><br/>The first time:<br/> My partner and I ordered the pulled pork ravioli, a main special, polenta chips and side salad. The pulled pork ravioli was so disappointing, it was only 3 little raviolis with a bit of pork belly on top and the pork filling was tasteless and dry. The fish of the day as ok however the sauce tasted like it came from a can. The polenta chips were the best part and we had good service from one of the Italian waiters. <br/><br/>The second time:<br/>We thought that maybe the pizzas would be amazing and we'll give that a go next. So we ordered a pizza, garlic pizza bread and calamari. The pizza was extremely oily and not like the beautiful thin crust Italian pizza you would think of. I've had better pizza at Sals. The garlic pizza bread was also really oily but yummy for the price paid. Worst of all was the calamari! We had the smallest portion for $14, completely bland, over cooked and rubbery. DO NOT waste your money. The service was also not great this time around as we were sitting outside and felt completely forgotten about. Not once did a waiter check on us or bring us water. <br/><br/>The last and final time:<br/>I went last week with my friend on a GrabOne voucher. She had good memories of the place from when she went 2 years back and I though ok I'll give it another shot. The meals and service were absolutely awful! We ordered the meatballs for a starter, which tasted like frozen processed store bought meatballs in an oily tomato sauce. I've had better store bought meatballs than the ones in my starter. My friend ordered the cannoli main, which came out well before my meal and not at the same time. She said her meal was super bland and oily, the tomato sauce just tasted like pure tomato paste so she had to pile on salt and pepper. My main was the pork belly. This was probably the worst I've ever had and there was even missing elements from the dish! The pork belly said "14 hr slow cooked", biggest lie ever! It was extremely dry and even worse, had been deep fried! Definitely the worst pork belly I've had yet and arrived stone cold! Then I noticed on the menu it said my meal came with artichoke purƩe and orange. I had 2 artichoke halves from a can on my plate as a replacement and no orange at all. I asked the waitress about this and she was extremely rude! She began arguing with me that I had ordered the lamb rump! Which I explained no look at the menu you can definitely see I have ordered pork belly. She then finally agreed but then made excuses! She said our usual chef isn't on and we've ran out. I said that's fine but I should've been told before I ordered my meal and there should be better substitutes than a bit of canned artichoke on my plate. She not once apologised and left. Once she returned she said it wasn't written on the board and continued to argue that's it's just because of the usual chef not here. She had a rude attitude the whole time and not once tried to make things better. I told her she wasn't giving good service and that she should at least apologise and try to make things right. She then stormed off with an attitude and later I could over hear her bitching about our table to the male waiter behind the bar. I used to work in hospo for many years and I know it's not easy, but this waitress was shocking and only added fuel to the fire. She was absolutely rude and totally needs to fix her attitude! <br/><br/>We had such a terrible experience, not only is the service bad but the food is consistently terrible each time I've gone here. I never ever feel this strongly to make complaints like this and I very rarely complain but this place is awful!! I kept giving this place the benefit of the doubt but we will most definitely not be returning and be telling our friends not to bother with this place. There's plenty more amazing restaurants in Kingsland that's worth the time and money!

We been there last week and ordered Polenta as starter and Salmone pizza and Ravioli Ai Gamberi for mains. The pizza was full of flavour and used fresh ingredient but the base didn't taste as good as the rest. The Ravioli was creamy and I love the filling but the sauce was a bit too sour for me. Was a lovely dinner and the staffs were very friendly.

My Mum and I came here for her Birthday Dinner last night and really enjoyed it. Great Food, Great Service and Great Ambience. I really loved my Vegetarian Pizza, Calamari and Lemon Lime and Bitters. Will definitely be coming back again.

Excellent food and ambiance at Papa's. We ordered feta bombs garlic pizza bread and the Pier Pizza (salmon pizza with capers). The pizza and garlic bread was amazing and the crust was crispy which I love! The feta bombs were great as well. The flavours of the food were spot on! <br/><br/>We were seated near the fireplace and had a cozy feel to the place. It was really warm and had a great ambiance. <br/><br/>Heard the table next to us complimenting the pastas and especially the pulled pork ravioli! Will definitely try that in future!

I've been here twice and as much as I think the inside dining area is dark, and I've copped a dirty dish or two.. That damn lasagna has got me hook line and centre.<br/><br/>Coming from a girl who hates spaghetti bolognese(don't even ask, Nutella is on that list too but this is about pasta) this lasagna has me under some kind of weird spell. Maybe because the day I came here me and my friend hit the jackpot with the vege pizza and everything was this beautiful medley of y u m m y<br/><br/>Every time I drive by I tell whoever I'm with "we gotta go there!"

One of the best pizza I had in my life.<br/>They do have amazing outdoor for dine in.<br/>Pretty good ,tasty food and reasonable price too.<br/>Friendly staff members too.<br/>Just recommended <br/>

Found this place by accident when the weather was rainy and we wanted a warm place to eat. This place is quaint and service was great. <br/>I had the spaghetti meatballs which was great and we had pizza and chips too. <br/><br/>This place is great for a hearty meal.

This was our second time here now. Love the ambiance, the food and the service. <br/><br/>THE FOOD <br/>Polenta Chips (4/5): My first time having polenta chips, wouldn't say I love it but I cant really say it was good or bad reconsidering hiw foreign it was to me. I really like it. <br/><br/>Lasagne (4/5): This dish was really good and served hot, there not much more you could ask from this dish, the combination was really good. I think more work on the sauce would make this a 5. <br/><br/>Fettuccini (5/5): This ome was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of flavor. Definitely reccomend this one<br/><br/>Dessert (5/5): For somereason I can't recall the name of the dish bit man this dessert was orgasmic. I like my dessert on the less rich sode and this cartered exactly to my needs, great taste and texture for a dessert. Good way to end. <br/><br/><br/>THE ENVIRONMENT (4/5)<br/>The ambience is very calm amd relaxing, good outdoor back of the house feel. Well actually the restaurant is pretty much a house. It can get cold outside BUT they donhave outdoor heating. <br/><br/>THE SERVICE (3.5/5) <br/>The first time we came here hands down 5/5. But the second time we felt the waitress at the time did impose the dish on us which was fine but not as tasteful as our original option. Pehaos she could have approached it another way. That aside though the staff overall are amazing. <br/><br/>

Dined with my friend and the service was great! Between us we ordered the polenta chips, pulled pork ravioli, chicken and mushroom Fettuccini & a pizza . The ravioli was amazing and have not tasted anything like it before . Chilled out environment with plenty of different seating options inside and out . We decided to eat outside under the pretty lights . There was plenty of blackboard specials for drinks and food too. Will definitely be back!

A night ruined,<br/><br/>Went on Saturday night,6th may, was told they were busy, which i accepted. Ordered a lasagne, a pizza and some polenta chips.<br/><br/>Ordered this at 6:50pm by 8:00 still waiting, no one telling us that it was on its way or anything. Really over an hour for polenta chips and pizza 15 minutes cooking time lasagne 30 minutes.Ā <br/><br/>An hour and 10 minutes and still nothing.<br/><br/>A table beside us with 8 people who came in after us were on their mains and we hadnt even got our starters.<br/><br/>What was worse was the lack of communication.<br/><br/>But it was only our wedding aniversary.<br/><br/>Won't be back, id rather try to find parking in town and go to A little Italy<br/> <br/><br/>I only give 1 star because i cant go lower

Such a cool place! A lot bigger than what it looks from the outside, there is also an upstairs. Cute little courtyard bit downstairs for when the weathers being a bit nicer. Lovely vibe and ambiance, very cosy and warm. Even a fire place! I came with a group of friends on a Saturday night, the food was amazing! Pizzas and garlic pizzas were spot on and the meatballs in the starters menu were devine. Prices weren't too bad, just your average. <br/>Only thing that was slightly off about the place was how long the food took. They were extremely apologetic and explained someone had called sick so were low on staff, gave us an extra garlic bread for the wait which ended up being about an hour wait for our food. I'm sure that the food comes out a lot faster usually and we were in no hurry, it was nice for them to apologise though. Would definitely come back to try again! Yum!

This place is a hidden Italian gem in kingsland. Don't be fooled by the humble exterior. Walk past the kitchen and you'll feel like you're in an Italian courtyard . It's gorgeous . The food is homey and generous. The pumpkin ravioli was so delicious and the pizza was delicious too . Will definitely be back

Found this hidden gem off the main strip of Kingsland tonight. Nice cosy atmosphere with good food and drinks and friendly staff! Loved the outdoor funky courtyard. Will definitely be back here. The pizzas were the best in town!

nice food reasonable price and good location. Feel very welcomed, waitress explained menu thoroughly. Dessert may need more work but ice cream is yum. Love their rovolio, cocolat milk and all sorts of wood fired pizzas.

Shocking service from the manager on duty:<br/><br/>We came here last Thursday night (16/03). Our group (3) ordered some starters to share (arancini, calamari and polenta chips ā€“ all were average except the arancini, which was pretty good). For main I ordered the pulled pork ravioli (as the manager recommended it to us). When it came out, I noticed something was not right with it; the ravioli was thick and stodgy. When the manager came over to ask how our meals were, I told her I wasnā€™t happy with mine. She became quite defensive, explaining that ā€œthe ravioli is one of our best-sellers and all of our other customers love itā€. She then implied the fault was with me, having ā€œchosen wrongā€ and that it was ā€œprobably just not to your tasteā€. I told her I love ravioli, but I am used to it having a thin, delicate texture. She said because it is hand-rolled in-house (without a pasta machine) the pasta is thicker but is still cooked al-dente (this ravioli was not al-dente) and therefore different to regular ravioli. Considering Italians have been hand-rolling thin, delicate pasta for centuries without the use of pasta machines, I am struggling to understand how this technique at Papaā€™s Pizza could be preferable. Ravioli (machine-rolled or otherwise) should be about 1/8 of an inch thick. These ravioli had the texture of dumplings.Ā <br/><br/>She left, and then came back a few minutes later to let me know that the chef also confirmed that I was in the wrong because their ravioli is meant to be like that. She told me she was going to take $10 off the bill for me (for a $26 meal), even though I ā€œhad chosen wrongā€. I was a waitress for several years and if a customer was ever unsatisfied with their meal (especially to the point where they couldnā€™t even eat it), I would have removed their plate and taken their meal off the bill without question or judgment. At the very least, I would have asked if there was anything I could do to fix it (e.g. order another dish). The others at my table (also pasta lovers) tried the ravioli and agreed that it was bad. An appalling response from the manager, her attitude was so unprofessional, it felt like she was trying to make me feel guilty for not enjoying my food ā€“ as if it was my fault they had made inedible ravioli. Will never recommend this place to anyone, so many delicious and authentic Italian restaurants to try in Auckland.

We popped in there for a quick lunch, place is very casual, but I heard pizzas were great.<br/>Got a seating outside next to this group which was celebrating their Christmas work function. <br/>We didn't mind the noise until one of the guys started sharing how he doesn't-giva-f*&k about his problems and need-to-go-for-a-piss situation, nevertheless we got our order for drinks and a tandoori pizza thru. Came out in 14 minutes just the way it should be...crispy, full of cheese and tasty chicken with a refreshing raita/tzatziki type of sauce. Crust was also well cooked thru. <br/><br/>Ā  Ā Ā  An above average experience, pizza was filling for me and my fiancee, will definitely come back.

Always come here and am never disappointed! Love the whole vibe and atmosphere, especially the staff who are full of life and give the best customer service everytime!šŸ‘Œ Now to save the best for last, to rate the food would definitely be a 10 out of 10 for me. I'm always blown away by the matchmaking of flavors which always seem to have me in awe! Love Papa's Pizza, this is now my regular and would highly recommend everyone to at least try once and see for yourself if you haven't been before. See you there.
Steph
Have been wanting to go to this place for a long time but sadly won't be back. The young waitress clearly didn't want to be there. The food took a while to come out and when it did it wasn't what we ordered but tasty nonetheless. In saying that it is quite pricey for what it was. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is great but as the night progressed we felt more and more unwelcome. The only person who gave us a warm greeting wasn't waiting tables which was unfortunate.<br/><br/>Maybe buy the food as expensive takeaways if you have a silly amount of money you want to waste.<br/><br/>

Came here for Valentines Day and had an awesome night. Really tasty food and beautiful Italian wine! Staff were really friendly and welcoming which rounded off the whole experience. Thanks heaps Papa's Pizza!

Great place to have a dinner, great polenta and special fetticine the service was wonderful.!! The courtyard is charming and cossy, we will be back for sure! Thanks papas team<br/>

Came here late one night for take aways! Ordered 2 pizzas, chips and polenta chips aswell. The food was absolutely amazing! I would go as far to say it was the best prawn pizza i have ever had (and not stingy on the prawns either) <br/>Chips were crisp and fresh. <br/><br/>Staff were very warm and happy to be of assistance. <br/><br/>Overall outstanding experience! Will be back to dine in!

A great place for pizza. The ambience, the seating, the food, and the super friendly waiters make for a perfect night! After coming here countless times, Papa's Pizza never disappoints. I definitely recommend this place!

Two visits here confirm the same - this is a cozy spot for tasty Italian fare . The warmly lit compact interior has a semi-rustic look pleasantly cushioned between a trattoria and ristorante. Service is polite with a smile , and though it is not a destination restaurant , it can easily make for a romantic dinner if the room is not crowded. On request, a pleasant lady came around and kindly fixed me a delicious vodka cocktail though the menu focuses on other drinks which, if you choose well, can land you a sumptuous red wine.Ā <br/><br/>The kitchen's tricks with blue cheese do not turn out that well - on one night , my friend and I both felt it coming on too strong in a risotto , while its pairing with decent arancini balls smothered the taste of the latter. An appetizer of polenta chips, was generous to the point of being a light meal by itself though the taste could have done with a bit of fine-tuning. In carb-based mains however, especially when blue cheese is not involved, they can make robust classics - recently we enjoyed a hearty vegetarian risotto with its creamy heft smartly cut by tomato ,with welcome vegetal accents of asparagus and beetroot. As if those facets weren't enough , there was feta by the side. Preferring its indoors again rather than the courtyard, return visits certainly entice. 2.75/5 (above average)

Tried out Papas last night for the first time and was really disappointed. The large pizza was not only tiny but was definitely not wood fired. The dough tasted like it was a frozen pre made base and the pepperoni tasted like the cheapest sausage you could buy at countdown. Worst pepperoni pizza I have ever eaten. Will not be back again. :(

We had our Friday pizza night last night again. In Melbourne we used our pizza oven often. R would make our dough and B would do a wonderful job at making gourmet toppings. Now A and I try to create regular gourmet pizzas of our own. Our own homemade variations often have basil and pine nut pesto, tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, chorizo, and brie cheese.

I love this place! Have been a handful of times and am always impressed by this little gem.<br/><br/>Food is beautiful and staff are lovely. Awesome feel to the restaurant, perfect for a date night.<br/><br/>Pasta and pizza both amazing and I feel so lucky that there is a good Italian place in the area. Real good for takeaways too!
Shaun Chaney
Great friendly staff. The meal was amazingly tasty and the outdoor sitting area had a nice cozy feeling to it. Can't wait for my next meal.
Gene Grey
Was absolutely amazing food, lovely service from the owner and comfortable atmosphere. Can't wait to come back with some more friends here as we all love Italian food.
Jasmine Tobeck
Absolutely amazing food. Good service, great vibe and one of the best experiences I've had! Highly recommend any seafood dish and the arrancinni balls are to die for. Definitely be back for more

We were a family of 6 people who all enjoyed our meals. Papas pizza catered for vegetarian and vegan guests. They were happy to create a vegan pizza or vegan pasta! Good Italian music, candle lighting, good service and an authentic looking environment.

Filled with a warm and relaxed environment employees with great customer service, along with delicious food, Papas Pizza is a family friendly place that will leave you full and satisfied. Although a tad expensive, the meal is totally worth it šŸ‘Œ

Love papa's! A great little local been around for 33 years and still going strong. Pizzas and pastas are always deviously delious! But the new menu is hard to pass up. Had the Steak Mornay with Tap Peroni included only $35. šŸ‘Œ <br/><br/>

Will always compare any pizza to Papa's pizza. <br/>Crispy, fresh and oh so delicious! Can never go wrong with a classic peperoni. <br/><br/>When staying in Kingsland Id never hesitate to take a little run down to Papa's. Sometimes buying 4 pizzas at a time! Got a lil pricey at times, but always worth while. <br/>The service is swift as you have the option of calling, ordering online OR visiting in store. <br/>The food is always hot, cant wait to go back!

Another great night in at papas, the music to set the mood followed by good selection of wine, pizza and pasta always A class but most of all to finish the night with the famous Pear dessert so delicious yummy, thanks papas again for great experience...

My partner and I went to Papa's on Friday night. He ordered the Cannelloni and I ordered the Chef's Special Duck Ragu with Parmesan gnocchi. We were both disappointed with the food. His one was bland and tasteless and my gnocchi were semi cooked and tasted just like a raw dough. The house wines were expensive, $9-10 per glass. You can buy the whole bottle from Countdown. For what we paid for, we expected something more decent. We wondered why it wasn't packed on a Friday night. We will never return.
Eddie Rosser
Had a great Monday night meal. Love the pizza and pear tartin was rated "best dessert in ages" by my partner. First came here 20 years ago and good to see still going strong.

Try the Pollo Al Burro ā€“ absolutely divine! Chicken cacciatore, risottos and the new breakfasts are also well worth a try. The customer service is excellent.

Another amazing meal at Papas, great atmosphere, friendly staff, consitent as ever, never been disappointed with the service, would thoroughly recommend for food and service

Enjoyable meal easy to find and quick service. Relaxed and informal. Good for a relaxed family meal something for all to eat and drink. Would recommend.

Nice warm atmosphere with seating inside and out. Food had good ingredients and the fireplace inside was great. Staff were friendly. Large pizzas are a good size and prices are fair.

Absolutely love Papas! The food is always stunning, service is friendly and helpful and the restaurant looks great too. The Sangria in summer is a must!

Great food!!! Loved the pizzas and the service was wonderful! Thank you so much.:) The chef was very friendly and All the staff were lovely :)

Service and ambience was great, we didn't even have a booking for a busy Friday night but they managed to squeeze us in! We had the pepperoni pizza and the chicken carbonara - both were so delicious! We loved it and the prices we found were pretty reasonable, we'll definitely be back for our next pasta fix.

Papa's Pizza is Awesome! who are all these meanies saying it is bad ... Its got a nice cosy warm vibe to the place especially sitting right by the kitchen chatting to the Chef. The staff have a friendly charm and love to chat to us making sure we had a great dine in experience. The starters aranchini balls were yummy, the pizza was full of flavour and Delicious and for desert we had the most amazing tiramisu ever! which was presented on the plate very nicely. My friend and i sat outside in the back deck area in Auckland's winter which was not so cold as they had the heaters going which created a nice warm space and the background music was funky. Definitely a favourite will be back many times to come! Ciao!<br/><br/>P.S Having the kitchen in the open as you walk in is an awesome idea as it felt like we were in a big family home with homemade cooking nice

Called into my daughters and partners place to say hi to my grandkids. They were going out to brunch. Papas Pizza opposite Eden park. I haven't been there for 15! Years and was keen to tag along. For those of you who haven't been there for awhile like me they created an Al Fresco area out the back. It was a sunny day but winter so we decided to do it. Chai latte done. Peroni chasers on tap followed by a generous anti pasto plater beautifully presented and in very generous proportions. Went for one of their amazing pizzas made in a base to die for, a calamari with rocket and a laxity fillet - if we'd have gotten a pasta then you could've called me Italian but I wasn't that hungry. Great food and a really comfortable surroundings. A great little fund in a spot just down the road from the other offerings in Kingsland. Have a look I'm sure you'll find it suits as a great local catch up spot with good Italian food.

My girlfriend and I decided we were in the mood for some Italian comfort food. We get there, the waitress asks whether we plan to eat in or takeaway. We say eat in. She looks pissed off. Doesn't let us sit down until yelling the *takeaway only* specials at us (eventually, the chef quietly says from behind her "eating in is ok too"). She then sits us outside in the cold (despite the restaurant being entirely empty), and tells us to "just wait" while the tables inside are readied. She gives us the menus. Doesn't take a drinks order, and moodily wanders off...We left without ordering. And will never be going back.

Absolutely amazing French toast!!! Best I've had in a very long time. Staff are super helpful and welcoming. There is also a beautiful outdoor spot at the back makes you want stick around after your meal :) 5 stars from me.

We've been here once maybe a year ago and was okay, nice pizzas but a bit pricey for what it was. Came back two weeks ago and we were waiting for 2 pizzas for about half an hour, so we decided to better take them home, had our drinks and stayed waiting for over an hour! Finally cancelled them and walked away, nobody's seems to care
Sarah Wickman
Delicious food and amazing staff. All the food we had was amazing!!!! Going again tonight and will definitely make it a regular dinner venue. Can't wait to eat the amazing food again!

Fantastic evening. My first visit trying out the new menu, which I was a lil nervous about as my usual favourites were no longer available. I noticed they had repainted the inside room which looked much brighter now than before but myself, a friend and her daughter all sat outside tonight. The atmosphere was good, as usual, fully booked courtyard and enough wait staff to be looked after very well. Giovanni looked after us whom must be new as we had not seen him before, he was knowledgable on the new menu however his strong italian accent did make some things a lil confusing to understand but is i guess one of those struggles you are happy to experience when at an authentic italian restaurant. He was very friendly and went to extra lengths to make sure the little one was well looked by constantly checking on her, was easily one of the best wait staff we have had at papas, he made the night cheerful and had us feel like everything was being looked after. We had garlic bread and calamari as starters which were up to par. They sprinkled some pesto over the calamari which was a beautiful surprise and made the dish that tiny bit more interesting than expected. For mains we ordered a Carnevale, Linguini pasta and mac n cheese for the little one. The risotto special available that day did look appealing, but Giovanni's recommendations had us sold, hopefully the risotto will still be available on our next visit as it was not on the usual menu and did sound divine. The Carnevale may be my new favourite, it was similar to other pizzas ive had elsewhere but the spinach definitely made it a standout. Really cant go wrong with chorizo on pizza though in my eyes. The linguini was a clear winner after the first bite, I was only allowed to try one forkful after that as she wanted it all to herself. Finished the night off with a couple of amazing chocolate mouse deserts which sat on marshmallow and had a jaffa flavour or crumbs inside, brought to us by a sweet and happy young brazilian girl who would most likely give Giovanni a good run for his money in the service end, she just seemed completely on top of everything during the night and never all stressed as some wait staff may be with a full courtyard to look after. 10/10 service atmosphere and taste from papas, cant wait to try what else is on the new menu and hopefully that risotto

Went back to this place for the first time for ages, used to go every other week or so. Service was averaaaaaage compared to other times, our mains arrived before our starters which we asked to have delivered first which was kind of annoying.. Long wait time and staff didn't really seem to be phased.. Disappointing considering this used to be one of my faves.
Fabrizio Moretti
I love it!<br/>I'm Italian and I can say this place is pretty good! I've been there last night with my partner (also Italian). We had an antipasto platter for starter and two glasses of Italian wine. The antipasto was perfect, with lot of different kind of cheese, olives, grissini bread stick, cabanossi and more.... Ā For mains we had a chicken involtino (That is chicken rolled with bacon and filled with mushroom and blue cheese) and a seafood arrabbiata. They were delicious! It looked like to be in Italy! The wine list is small, but with really good authentic Italian wine and the food is delicious thank to the new head chef. The place is nice and warm, thanks also to the great waiting staff (some of them also Italian) who could suggest us the perfect combination of food and wine. Grazie Papa's pizza! I will be back soon!
Joanne Chiang
Really really really enjoyed this place. Staff was super friendly, atmospher was perfect. Papa pizza can be quite hidden but im sure you cannot miss the pizza signage driving through sandringham. I came here with my partner on a friday night because he was craving some pasta and did not regret coming here. <br/>I got the cabonosi feta pizza and he ordered a fettuccine in creamy sauce. The sauce for the pasta was soo yummy. It wasnt too thick to the point that is sickening, it was just right. The pizza was cooked perfectly. The base was crispy, generouse with the cheese and the toppings. <br/>Overall, my dining experience at papa's pizza was very good. I will defitnately come back for more
Rijuta Gawri
Visited the place for the first time last night despite living just across the road. We ordered the Pestovarian and the Cabanossi & Feta pizza which were absolutely yum! The sangria is pretty awesome too. The kitchen was a bit slammed I suppose since it was 8pm but Giovanni, our server, made up for it. Overall, a good experience and good find close to home so will visit regularly.

its great to see , such a great place in auckland , with authentic decoration , sittings and especially the courtyard is great Ā place to have pizza's . i have been there for dinner , we had pasta's and also a pizza, i loved it a lot. feel like going there again with my friends again.

Ordered the Cannelloni for pick up. I arranged to have the pasta ready for 5:30. This was at approximately 4pm. Once I arrived at 5:30 to pick up my food I was told I would have to wait another 15 minutes because it was not ready yet. The meal was advertised as 3 Cannelloni however once I arrived home to eat I had been given two. The two cannelloni I received were drowned in the sauce and fell apart completely as I removed them from the tray. The pasta itself was enjoyable but I was ultimately disappointed with my experience and the price I paid for the amount of food I actually received

Enjoyable experience! The atmosphere and the customer service is great! We were seated right away and the staff were extremely apologetic about the heater not working which we didn't mind.<br/>Wish they had the same attitude about the 2 regular pizzas we waited for over an hour for instead.<br/><br/>We ordered the pestovarian and spicy chicken coupled with chianti wine. The pizzas were genuinely delicious and so filling! We finished the meal by sharing tiramisu which was so fluffy with a hint of coffee, it was just right!

Came here last night for dinner. Ate a whole large pestovarian pizza by myself. Felt ill but it was worth it #yolo. staff seemed a bit overwhelmed with our big group but we were loud and annoying and asked lots of questions āœŒšŸ½ļø I'll be back
Rita Elyse
We were just going to order dominos, but then we decided to put in some effort and come here instead. Best. Decision. Ever. The people were friendly, there was a hole-in-the-wall vibe offset by the beautiful outdoor area, and the pizzas were just delicious. We had the Margherita and the prosciutto which were both beautiful. Will definitely go again.

Nice place for a casual dinner and the courtyard area out the back creates a good atmosphere with fairy lights and a pizza oven. We where there on a Saturday night and ordered "The bombay" which was a tasty pizza but was missing the stated topping of cashew nuts. Apart from that, it's a great place to eat quality pizza.
Rebecca Teng
You know the food is good when you forget to take a photo before devouring it all down. And that's the case here! A small little pizzeria just opposite Eden Park is truly a hidden gem! ( at least I didn't know until this Tuesday...) Great staff, great price, the dim lighting with the fireplace and very unique pizza selection really have stolen my heart! Definitely recommend the Mumbai Pizza with tender tandoori chicken, mango chutney, banana and other ingredients ("what?!" was my first reaction but man, did the flavours compliment one another so well!) Only thing I have to say is I hoped the staff would've noticed the used empty plate that was still left on our small table while our desserts came. But that's just me being picky! My friends and I are planning to dine here again already!
Rohit Victor
The Bombay Pizza & Tiramisu dessert are the best (in their respective categories) I have tasted thus far! The ambience was beautiful and the staff where always there when we needed them throughout the night! They were super friendly and helped to accomodate us when we didn't book a table! All in all it was great service and the staff showed great humour when talking to us!
Rebecca MacDonald
This has been around for as long as I can remember but funnily enough I have never been before. Headed there for dinner tonight and the pizza was just as good as I had heard. We had half Tuscan and half super supreme and they were amazing so full of flavour! The decor was authentic old school Italian complete with candles in wine bottles. There is a courtyard outside which would be nice in the summer. Great for a casual dinner!

Visited Papa's pizza for the second time today and the experience was lovely. <br/>The service is warm and friendly, ambience very cosy.<br/><br/>The menu is not extensive but we've tried a few dishes and they were all really nice. <br/><br/>Pesto pizza bread and garlic loaf as starters are good portion size and yummy! For the mains we had a pizza with pesto base, chicken tortellini, fettuccine and spaghetti and meatballs. We had a bit of the wait until food was served but understandable as the dishes came out straight off the oven and the restaurant was busy even on a Tuesday night. <br/><br/>The server is really warm and had a nice chat with me on my last visit. This time too she was quite friendly and very happily added mushrooms to my order of fettuccine with chicken. <br/><br/>The portions are huge and worth yeah price, $20-$22 for the mains. Even though we were so full we tried the mud cake with cream. Delicious! It's worth noting that the prices here are different than the actual prices. <br/><br/>I will definitely be dining here often. <br/><br/>

We only got three leaves of basil on a Margherita pizza. I cried because it was my birthday and all I wanted was some basil :( I would say they could improve this by adding some more basil. Also for $17, it was a bit of a ripoff.

Came here with some friends on a cold Auckland night. We had to walk through the kitchen (bit of a squeeze - but interesting) to the seating outside. There isn't too much seating inside. We were a bit hesitant to sit outside, but really had no choice. We were all offered blankets, as well as having a gas heater on us - so being outside was fine! The staff were very friendly. I had a chicken pizza from the regular menu and it was a really delicious pizza. A friend asked for hot sauce which they provided, so I had that with my pizza which added a bit of a pleasant kick. Papas pizza have a wood fire oven outside. They only use this if you order off their wood fire oven menu - which is written with chalk on a board - it had about 4-5 pizzas on it. These cost a bit more than the standard pizzas. They had a special: 1 woodfire pizza with mulled wine for $25. My friends found the mulled wine to be delicious.Ā One chef, operating the woodfire oven was rolling out pizza, making, and cooking outside - so I was watching him make them all. The dough seemed to be rolled very thin. All of my friends ordered the woodfire oven pizzas and they all found that the pizza crust was too thin, whereas my pizza was more 'doughy', which I liked.Overall, I really enjoyed my standard pizza, while the others did like theirs, but found the base of the pizza to be a little unsatisfactory. The woodfire pizzas looked a little disappointing compared to my pizza. A really nice night, but the woodfire pizzas were a bit of a let down.

Great little find. A few of us went here in the evening last week and really enjoyed our night.<br/><br/>The outdoor area had a great feel to it. And would be a nice place for a 'date' night. We had two pizzas between the three of us (which were yum) and was good value for money.

These guys make great pizza. We've been there on our own and in big groups and each time, we've left feeling happy and full. The staff are friendly and the vibe is cheerful. Plenty of side street parking too.<br/>

Ordered takeaways from Papa's on Saturday night. I drive past this place all the time and it has always looked appealing so thought it was time to give it a try. We ordered over the phone and then went to pick up. There was a 45 min wait. I don't mind waiting times as long as I'm made aware of them, so the fact that we had to wait didn't bother me. We arrived about 15 minutes before our pizzas were ready so it was fun watching the pizzas being prepared. Our pizza was ready about ten minutes before our sides so was kept on the top of the oven. We were assured our pizzas would stay warm, andĀ they did. Lucky for all concerned. We ordered two pizzas and two sides to share: the seafood pizza and the vegetarian one plus the polenta chips and garlic bread. I enjoyed the pizza, it had great flavours and an excellent crust. However, I felt like they could have been more generous with the toppings. They are also very overpriced. The garlic bread was pretty good. As for the polenta chips... never again. A polenta chip tastes like it has been made from potato that has been sitting in water for about a week and a half, has then been mushed up and formed into aĀ rectangle, then baked in the oven. Both a bizarre and pointless task if you ask me. The pizzas are good here but I won't be back in a rush.

Came here on a Sunday evening. The courtyard at the back is gorgeous with all the fairy lights, the staff were very friendly and just had a really nice relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the Bolognese (but got fettuccine instead of spaghetti), the Fettuccine Carbonara with Bacon & Mushroom, a side salad and a half-and-half pizza with Margherita & Hawaiian. The Bolognese was very tasty - nice meaty /tomatoey flavour. Loved the big thick fettuccine and how they bake their pasta dishes with lots of cheese on the top - yum! The Carbonara was the dish of the night - sooo cheesy and creamy, was absolutely delicious. The Hawaiian pizza was quite good, I liked how it had a good amount of ham (could have slightly more pineapple but I am a fan of lots of pineapple). The Margherita was alright but I think they forgot to put on any basil so was a tad bland. The side salad could be improved as for $8 it was just salad leaves and grated Parmesan but it was nice to have something green alongside the hearty pasta dishes. Good value (only $20 per main), great service and delicious food - will be back for more :)

We've wanted to come here since forever. We pretty much drive past this place every day. My sister found a voucher from the entertainnent book and that was a green light. We were not disappointed. Really good big portions. We were aware some people have reviewed and said there is too much cheese on their dishes. For us, YESSS CHEEESSEEE!!! LOVED IT!! They were definitely not stingy on good cheese. We ended up taking home most of our meals because it was so big. The staff there are really relaxed and let their personality shine. It was a very homely atmosphere. <br/>My only complaint would be their lighting and decor. The table settings were quite cramped indoor (note: outdoor seating is lovely). The lights were a bit too dim and sort of made you fall asleep. But would defo return when I crave Italian food. <br/><br/>Food: 4.8/5 (full marks if lasagne was less soupy) <br/>Service: 5/5 <br/>Atmosphere: 3/5 <br/>Value for money: 5/5

Papa's pizza is a stalwart of the Auckland food scene, in fact my now husband and I used to go here regularly back when we started dating over 13 years ago, - we recently decided to go back for old times sake, and were not disappointed the food was delicious as it has always been, and the characters that work here are as large and friendly as ever. If you are planning on going on a weekend night in particular it does pay to book as space can be at a premium, and even after all these years it appears to still be very popular (with good reason).Ā <br/>It does feel a little odd to walk through the kitchen to get to the seating area,- it does have an amazing courtyard area so don't judge by peaking in the front windows as the front of the store doesn't show it's true size or decor.

Went here for my birthday dinner not so long ago, average experience. Ā A few of the staff were really nice and looked after us well and when they mucked up my cocktail they happily made me a new one for no extra cost which was great but some staff members appeared like they did not want to be there and had a rude attitude - I work in hospitality myself and know that staff should be looking after their customers to ensure a good time by all - the staff did not give us Ā cutlery and never asked if we wanted to order more drinks or anything. Food was Delicious but took over an hour to receive it so that was a let down. Overall very average.

This place is awesome. Went there tonight with my wife and two young kids. Didn't have a booking but even though it was a Friday night and busy they found a space for us.<br/><br/>The pizzas are great and very tasty. There is a great wine selection and Peroni on tap too. There is a beautiful courtyard out the back and it has such a wonderful relaxing feel. We will definitely be back soon.<br/>

Regular at Papa's for years and years. Better Italian food than in Italy!<br/>Gluten Free pizza bases and vegetarian/vegan options. Plenty pasta choices, favourite is Venison or is it the hearty meatballs? Some pasta GF choices. Sorbet or gelato.. <br/><br/>Entrees like feta bombs amazing. Buffalo mozzarella on any pizza is divine and much better for dairy free dining. Ask for it and taste the creamy difference.<br/><br/>What makes papas great is the family owned and run attitude with vested interest in a relaxed dining experience. If you expect flashy ponsonby service you won't get that insincerity at Papa's. <br/><br/>I love the human touch and style. Upstairs and outdoors good for groups. Partner dining indoor by fire best. <br/><br/>Eden Park games mean pizza slices on sale so dont miss a meal if you preloaded! Wine is selected on diner feedback! Spanish varietals particularly pallette pleasing.

Papas Pizza is a great local pizza joint. Always welcoming service and great food! My netball team and I often come here for a post match dinner and it's definitely our favourite local dining spot. Good variety of flavours, happy to cater to dietary requirements and always cold Peroni on tap. Hard to beat!

Had SUCH A DISAPPOINTING experience at Papas Pizza.<br/>Cute spot with a nice outdoor area, I was excited as I entered the premises. After 2 hours drifted by and I was still waiting for my "crappier than Hell Pizza" pizza, the bubble quickly burst.<br/>The pizza was rubbish! Big thick under cooked doughy base with wilted, bruised and yellow rocket on top. There was no love at all in this.<br/>I told the waitress and she said "oh that's not fair" and ran away. She also mentioned that it was quite strange as the rocket was only bought yesterday - yesterday! This should have been bought today.<br/>I will NEVER go back.Ā <br/>And I will NEVER recommend this to anyone.

Arrived 10 minutes before our table reservation, got seated 15 minutes later despite the table being free the whole time.<br/><br/>After a further 15 minutes without attention we had to go looking for menus, the table next to us kindly donated theirs to us.<br/><br/>Water for the table eventually arrived but only one bottle for 6 people.<br/><br/>Beverages arrived, had to go looking for glasses.<br/><br/>20 minutes after menus arrived we finally got to place our order. By this stage we had been on the premises for almost 1 hour.Ā <br/><br/>1 hour 40 minutes after arriving food arrived, one order was wrong so we had to wait a further 15 minutes and as a result one of us started when the others had finished their meals.<br/><br/>The reason for all the above: staff with no training and no interest in their job, they all looked totally bored and disinterested.<br/><br/>And for the food: pizzas were very greasy, pasta was tasteless and soupy.

I have been to papas a few times now, and I must say the food is excellent, and the staff give good service. The Tuscan pizza is to die for. We will be back.
Lisa
Thanks Papa's for a excellent service, truly enjoyed our experience and will become regulars! had the Meatlover's pizza ( which is to die for! ).....lots of Cabanossi, pepperoni, ham with mozzarella -husband really enjoyed it!. I had the plum vension pasta with a lovely red which was especially needed on the winters night, felt nice and cosy by the fire inside. Can't wait for summer to enjoy the courtyard , thanks again guys

Pappa pizas its alright patrons are encouraged to walk pappy's gauntlet through the kitchen, nice intro to a pize establishment. LOVE LOVE LOVE the giant jaffa at the inverse end of said gauntlet. Decor needs spruce, but the outdoor area is very nice. <br/><br/>We had the pestovarian, and the feta with olives for starter, wish they'd told us that actually the pesto pizz is just said starter on a pizza. Good olives.

I got the mushroom and spinach cannelloni take away. When I open the box, I could only see soupy cream, with very little chunks of veges. The worst was the amount of cannelloni. My husband and I counted. There were only 5 pieces of cannelloni pasta!!! I was so angry I called them right away. They apologised and confessed that they were running out of ingredients. And they want to offer us a free pasta for next time. One simply does not just put sauce in a takeaway container and hope your customer doesn't notice. That was $22. We also got the super supreme pizza, which was way to salty.

Owner who waited our table was fabulous! <br/>Manager who is front of house is unfortunately, unnecessarily aggressive. Website reviews we read said it was BYO so we were disappointed to find that wasn't the case. The manager all but snatched our wine from us, yelling that we had to leave it at the doorā€¦ Owner was a truly wonderful waitress however and we would return just to support her. <br/>Food was a solid 3.5/5, Decor was great 4/5, Wait service 5/5, front of house 2/5.

I love the outdoor area it's really relaxing and the food is amazing! One of the best pizzas I've ever tried and the pasta and tiramisu is so good, I can't wait to eat there again! All of the staff are really lovely and helpful too! (There was a big guy out the front who came off really arrogant and unhelpful though) but the food's so great I'll still come back!

We liked the food and the atmosphere of this place and decided to celebrate my husbandā€™s 30th birthday at Papaā€™s. With a bigger number of 21 invitees - we were set up in the area upstairs (just about right for a group of 20-25 people). <br/><br/>The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. Also the allocated staff member was friendly and helpful. <br/>I did find the price of their set menu ($45 per person) to be expensive - although they made the evening an overall memorable experience!
Paul Aspden
We arrived and the waiter didn't serve us water (we were waiting for other friends to arrive and they assumed we'd want to wait for them before having a drink on a hot evening). We asked for water and saw someone being told off, they then placed 2 bottles of water onto to the table quite loudly.<br/><br/>The second issue, one of our friends is Ceoliac (gluten intollerant and gets very sick when eaten). When asked for a gluten free pasta dish, she was told it wasn't available as they make it to order. If you advertise Gluten free food, make sure it is available!!!<br/><br/>Thirdly, when the first 2 dishes arrived, the waiter said they were gluten free!!! They weren't gluten free, clearly there's miscommunication in the kitchen.<br/><br/>Fourthly, customers are allowed to walk through the kitchen. Not great considering people could leave germs/hair behind.<br/><br/>Also, the food wasn't great. I had Chicken fettuccine and it was very cheesy and gluggy. My partner had Chicken Tortellini and it was burnt.<br/><br/>Would not recommend venturing into this place.
Chris Gin
Hi Pappa's, I visited your establishment tonight with my 2 sons. Service welcoming and friendly, unfortunately your food was not to the same level. Our chicken fettuccine was overloaded with cheese and very gluggy, not your typical creamy fettuccine, more like a macaroni cheese. Meatballs and garlic pizza bread barely acceptable, our Hawaiian pizza very dry couldn't taste the tomato base as per I remember. Usually when we dine out we also have dessert, we gapped it and went to Frasers, as for the takeaway for leftover pizza and pizza we were being polite. <br/><br/>The only reason I am writing this review is that it was my 10 year old son who expressed his disappointment, annoying as this was meant to be a treat and it was I who said lets give Papa's a go.

Worst pizza ever! Waste of 25 bucks I was really looking forward to it and I will never ever return. A female staff member was really rude to me when I walked in to pick my pizza up, I had cat fur on my tshirt and when I walked in she said "you have cat fur all over your t-shirt" not in a nice way but in a bitchy rude way. I did have cat fur on my t-shirt but who is she to comment I am a customer all she should say is - here is your pizza have a nice day. So anywho I get home still excited to try the pizza and I bite into it and it is so average, bland not what I would call a gourmet pizza.

When I feel like Italian, I know what I am going to have before I get to the restaurant. So expectations are always high. My Mushroom &amp; Spinach Cannelloni was just as I imaged it was going to be. So often you get hard over cooked cannelloni, but not here, is was perfect.<br/><br/>Service was quick and friendly on the Monday we went and the small restaurant was full.<br/><br/>Well worth a visit

A group of 15 (this number had been confirmed the day before with the restaurant) celebrated my partner's birthday on 25 May 2013. It was a set menu at $35 per head. We were ripped off!<br/><br/>The starters came out and were quite nice however there were only four starter breads to go around everyone. We were then served about 6 pizzas or various flavours, again not enough for everyone. This was followed by some ravioli which was nice but still not enough to go around. Dessert was not included either.<br/><br/>The food tasted nice and the service was good however more food would have been good. No menu was given to us so that we could choose what we wanted to eat either. The consensus from everyone that attended was that they did not get enough for the $35 charged.<br/><br/>I would not recommend Papa's for a group of people. Takeaway only.

Papa's Pizza has become a favourite place to dine for our family of four .. we adore the pizzas and are systematically working our way through the pizza menu, although occasionally we deviate from the plan, as we find it hard to bypass our favourites (mine is the cabanossi and feta) ..<br/><br/>today, we ordered the cabanossi and feta (guess who chose that one) and the satay steak for lunch .. as always, they were superb .. we sat in the courtyard this time, which was nice seeing as it was such a beautiful, sunny day ..<br/><br/>I finished with the affogato .. o m g .. divine ..<br/><br/>highly recommend Papa's Pizza .. wish we'd discovered you a lot sooner ..

My friend and I have fallen in love with you! We had the garlic bread with parmasan, AMAZING! And for the main we had the Hawaiian pizza with chicken. I love the way they do the chicken with the herbs. So good. And their mojitos? Best I have ever had and I am fussy about my cocktails!! Thank you for an awesome meal!!!!

The seating area inside is very cute and cosy, but I can't imagine how they fit people in there if it gets busy. The pizza was good, but on the pricey side even for gourmet pizza. The real downside was their coffee though. It was the most burnt coffee I've ever tasted. If they can't train a good barista they shouldn't bother offering coffee.

Pestovarian is soo goood! The seatings behind the restaurant in the open is nice! Got a cool vibe. Service is good too!
Dani Nakita
Poor service. Forced to pay extra for guests who did not arrive. Some of the food was burnt and waitress would not allow takeaway on the leftover food. Would not dine here again and do not recommend it.

Loved it. I had pizza, my partner had the pasta - both were lovely with loads of toppings.<br/>Staff were friendly and inviting. wonderful atmosphere. gladly recommend!!!

Off to a good start with the starter (Kalamata olives and feta). However, what followed was less than impressive. Ordered a Pestovarian Pizza, which came with no pesto, a limited amount of old mushrooms, odd tasting - bordering foul tasting sliced black olives, and too much cheese. My partners apricot chicken pizza came without any distinguishable apricots/apricot sauce, tasted more like honey and had limited fresh ingredients. The menu advertises cocktails, we ordered a Mojito but returned it as it was made with lemon not lime and way way too much sugar syrup. We also noticed a that a couple on a neighbouring table did not drink their cocktail either (cosmopolitan). Yet another table behind us did not eat most of their pizza, and looked as though they were quietly complaining to each other about it. We recommend: if you are going to do cocktails at least do them well, if you are going to advertise amazing pizza's, at least make them better than we can make at home. I went here because the other reviews were positive and was disappointed.

Beautiful pizza! Full to the brim and tastes great.<br/>Would highly recommend this. Definitely going back ther.<br/>Pizza is a little on the higher price? But it's well worth it for a damn good pizza!!
Rochelle Maifeleni
Great food, think about the pasta often!<br/><br/>You have to go through the kitchen first to get to the main seating area, this is a bit weird but also gives it a "im not hiding anything" vibe. The place could do with a good old rennovation, old building kinda falling apart but adds to the grungy no frills feeling, we were seated on 2 church pews. <br/>Its really about the company service and food here, no complaints about that... chicken pizza is VERY generous with the chicken, more than im used to, but DELICIOUS pasta... tortillini to die for, will certainly go back for it!
Danielle
awesome! We love Papas, great atmosphere, staff are relaxed and friendly - good value for money too.
Julie
Fabulous venue for families/friends and groups. I have just had a birthday dinner with 7 people and the pasta and pizza was delish! Great wholemeal pizza bases and friendly relaxed dining.<br/>We will definitely be coming back for more! To test oput the spacious decking our the back.<br/>Thanks guys!<br/>
Amy
Atmosphere is cozy and casual. The staff are really friendly &amp; treat you like old friends. trouble is that the pizzas are just OK. But with a bottle of wine, and good conversation is still a nice place to eat.
Joel L.
Just a lovely place. Their wholemeal pizzas are awesome and the atmosphere is just great. A wonderful local with some of the best pizzas in Auckland.

Never judge a book by its cover - and papa's is a great example of just that. I've introduced many friends to this place, and they've all loved it. Cheesy, flavoursome pizzas and pastas with the option of wholemeal bases. This place does not hold back on ingredients! The funky courtyard makes it a great place for drinks - especially Sunday arvos! <br/><br/>Takeaway Tuesdays with weekly Facebook code trumps all other cheaper Tuesday options! ($10 make your own pizza)

I went to Papa's Pizza for a farewell party. We sat in the courtyard which was lovely. The fairy lights and lanterns makes for a inviting atmosphere and the music they play is top notch. Papa's have really done well with creating a lovely ambience. <br/><br/>I came with a large group, we shared starters and most of us ordered pizza as a main. All very tasty, simple food that I couldn't fault. Great flavours and everyone ate more than enough. The kitchen was a bit slow and it was a little difficult to find staff to order drinks from. Staff should be check tables shortly after each new arrival for drink orders. This can sometimes to be expected on a Friday night, but many staff were standing around the front of the shop, so perhaps they forgot to service the courtyard. <br/><br/>Wine by the bottle, Peroni on tap. Very happy. <br/><br/>We split the bill at $38pp including drinks. Great value.
