Review Thai Torbay - Auckland Central

Finally made the trip out here to have dinner here, and the experience was amazing! Excellent service, and excellent food. I tend to judge Thai food based on Red Curry and Pad Thai, and we ordered both tonight. And yeah, wow, both tasted incredible! Will definitely be coming back here. Do come check it out if you're in the area.

Thai Torbay was serving their great food in Take-Away format after a big wait for lock-down NZ to let them back. Even though it wasn't the full restaurant the food was amazing as usual. Highly Recommended 10-10

Always a pleasant experience, family run, the default might be for the kiwi pallete but you only have to ask for it to be porphyry Thai and you will get the nicest food outside of Bangkok. Awesome place, lovely family

Wow what a surprise! So unassuming from the street but really great food! I've eaten Thai in a lot of places, including Bangkok, and this is really authentic and more like 'Thai' food than European Thai so well worth going for a visit! Great ambience and friendly staff just added to the experience... I will be back!

I have always enjoyed my meals when I eat at Thai Torbay, then again, I always order the same thing, Pad Ka Pao, which I would highly recommend. The staff are friendly and the restaurant itself is very well presented. The only draw back is that it's slightly over-priced which means I only eat here every once in a while.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!I have been to many Thai restaurants last 20 years. This is the best Thai restaurant in North Shore. Friendly people, food is absolutely amazing! LOVE IT

My wife and I and several friends dine at Thai Torbay several times a year, and we have never been dissapointed by the food or the service. It's a very nice, friendly, family restaurant serving good food at a reasonable price.

The food has been nothing less than astounding and the service has always been bright and cheery. Out of the many Thai places I have been to, this one has been the one above all. The ingredients used in the many dishes I have had have always complimented each other with no one ingredient overwhelming the others. It also felt one step closer to traditional Thai food than an NZ/Thai Fusion, which was very much appreciated. This has been a regular go to for me and I have not regretted a single visit! <br/>- Cameron

Booked a table for 4 for 730pm, Friday. Arrived and there were only two other people there. We took BYO wine. Entrees were average but the action that made us up and leave after the Entrees was the chef, whom we believe also to be the owner. He came over and asked that we hurry up with the ordering of our main course as he wanted to let his staff go. We asked for 5 mins to finalise our order but his attitude after that meant we paid for our entree, left and went to Chands Indian restaurant for our main course.. Food there was great, as was the service.

Wonderful service and the most delicious Thai food. Love the pad Thai, green curry and black bean stir fry. Always served with a lovely smile from the amazing staff.

Never had a meal I hated. It is always good for the price. There is better out there. But if yea local and don't won't to drive and pay more. Eat here

We went to there regularly during the last few years. The food is good but not exceptional. I think the price is a bit too high for the portion size.  Obviously that's the reason why it's always quiet compared to the Indian restaurant next door.

This place is amazing. The meat was tender and the sauces full of flavour. The service is also above and beyond. We tried the spicy beef, cashews chicken, green curry and pad thai. My favourite appetizer was the curry puffs. There was a pleasant intimate atmosphere and the servers were polite and friendly. Highly recommended.

Ok so the food does taste good, but.... our curry portion was beyond small, the container wasn’t even half full, and the curry itself was incredibly watery , and the ingredients very far and few between. Basically a nice soup. normally you want a bit more rice, this time we barely got through half of it. Massive shame

My go to thai on the shore . Tried a few other thai places on the shore they don't come close. Friendly staff , nice environment. Well priced for the portion size and fantastic consistent quality meals. Curry puffs are handsdown the best on the shore that I've tasted . If you haven't tried yet you're missing out. Passionate chef that creates memories not just meals 5 stars as over the years this restaurant is yet to let me down. Keep up the great work

Amazing food! I had the mixed entree, mister had the curry puffs both dishes were yum. The Tom yum soup was delicious, you just wanted more after every spoonful. The mister is not a fan of soup but he had one spoonful and declared it a winner. Our mains again hit the spot, definitely going back. Well worth the drive across town. Joe and Jenny are awesome hosts 😊

Love this restaurant! Every time I go I get a spot on perfect meal. I eat a lot of Thai food, and have found it hard to find this good quality at such a good price. Well done guys!

Having travelled through Thailand and experienced authentic cuisine, the green curry I ordered was no better than a pre ready box meal from the local supermarket. I should have stuck with my own home cooked curries.

Great service from chef and friendly staff, Food was excellent 10/10 . A lot of tasty variety from the menu . Personal favourite was the soup 👌🏻 Cosy place and good location. It was worth the drive from East Auckland. Need to go back for more! Thanks Thai Torbay 🙌🏼

We have been to Thai Torbay last night and it was great. If you want a real thai food this is the place. All staffs are polite and they use very fresh ingredients. Highly recommended A+ will definitely go back again.

Great Food and great fast service. Soup was amazing curry puffs were spot on and our main meals were just AWESOME ! bringing my friends here for round 2. I'm from Avondale and drove out to Torbay for this and it's a 10/10

Delicious fresh food, nice and comfortable atmosphere in a family run restaurant. The Panang and Pad Thai were really awesome! It was a great evening at a very reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit!

What a disappointment. I absolutely love Thai food and thought I get a takeaway from Thai Torbay as this place as near my home. I ordered Sweet and sour stir fry with Tofu (Takeaway). When opened the lid I can tell something was not right. I can smell something stinky. Not sure what but I had a bite and yuck. I think it was green beans all most turning brown.. Had to throw it away and have to cook dinner for me after throwing $16.50 takeaway in the bin.. What a shame... Thai food is all about fresh ingredients not about the smelly and spoilt vegetable. Will never go back for sure ...

Thought we'd try something different to the Thai we know in Albany. Watery curry and tinned green beans, no carrots. Money bags were flavourless. Wasn't impressed at all.

Thai torbay is amazing. Fresh foods and flavours. We had a lovely meal tonight and I have a new favorite the panang is delicious and a must try.

This is my favorite Thai place in Auckland. The food is amazing and the family who run the restaurant are wonderful. Great flavors and a warm friendly atmosphere make for an enjoy evening out.

The whole experience was absolutely amazing, we couldn't wait to return. Great food, lovely ambience with warm and genuinely friendly staff. My husband and I love eating out, we have been trying different Thai restaurants in New Zealand, but I would say this is the best Thai food we've ever had. Highly recommended!

This is an awesome Thai restuarant in North shore area , We are regular visitors to this place never returned disappointed so far .<br/><br/>the food is very authentic and yummy though the place is small in size they server big on taste and customer service.

Great little place to try if you are in the area. Both takeaways and dine on are very good. Service is a bit average but the food is good and menu extensive. A local eatery that is worth going back to.

Love their food. Food is fresh and delicious with plenty of vegies. The menu has plenty of variety with lots to choose from and it is a very popular restaurant.

Went here tonight with my partner and my younger brothers family, was a bit dubious because of the other reviews written on here but our experience was really good! The food is amazing! I usually take lots of photos but I completely forgot to once I saw it, I do have a couple though! We got a few mixed entrees to share as starters, they were very tasty! I had the sweet and sour beef and my partner had the sizzling duck platter both were so good! The only down side is the service is quite casual but we all got what we asked especially seeing as there was 10 of us. Will definitely be back again :)

OMG had takeaway order , as have done several times until last year when i was the only 1 who had food poisoning because i was the only 1 who ate as the rest of the family were away and my doctor has his practice across the road from them !! we then watch a thai food programme tonight so we 3 of us (2 adults 1 child) had a hankering and thought we would give them another go (love supporting local business) and they are the only local one in the area , 2 curries beef/lamb 2 mixed entree but wait you have to pay $2 for rice x 2 = $4 , I asked for extra peanut sauce to be told that it is $3 , all up $54 I say thats great and I don't mind paying for it but my son in law to be,  collects for us before he goes out , I couldn't believe my eyes that I got literally a tablespoon full , I even said they must have forgotten when I was looking for it , I phone up and get told that yes this pathetic measly amount is $3 for around 30 mil  , I'm flabbergasted because I seriously thought they had made some sort of mistake , after tooing and frooing with a worker I sit and start to write , then I think give them the benefit of doubt and ring back again , this time I spoke to owner , he didn't want to listen , at one stage I had to tell him to shush because I was the customer , he said I'm busy with other customers , I said "your not because you wouldn't be speaking so loudly on the phone to me" he then said "I out the back in the kitchen and I don't have time for you , you can have a refund of $3" NO thanks I'm going to continue writing my review , coincidentally I had dealings with him a while back when his relative had supposedly taken back a dora the explorer dvd to thailand , he just could not understand that it was HIS account with HIS name on it and that HE was responsible , instead I got the same tirade of gibberish on the phone . LESSON learnt , you see as far as my patooty points to the ground I and others will never set foot in this place again AND to boot I was about to give them a 5 rating until I had dealings with him

If you need to take a date to a horror film and to dinner then BAMM done. Go here. Two for the price of one. All entres are reheated supermarket food. The service was like waiting for your first born to walk. If I could give a restaurant a zero I would so let's be positive, what's good here? Um well theres a roof, some walls and a door. Move on, for the love of God. Nothing to see or eat here.

This place is a great local spot, never disappointed. The Green curry is the best. Service is efficient and friendly. Good idea to share different dishes between members of your table.

Have to say I was disappointed. I have been here in the past and had a very enjoyable experience. Tonight I ordered a Choo chee curry and was asked if I wanted kiwi hot or Thai hot. Most nights I would take the Thai hot option however chose kiwi hot. What came out was very very hot, so much so I really didn't enjoy it. When quieted the staff they said it was a medium! When I asked again they said it was kiwi hot. They did nothing to rectify.<br/><br/><br/>Not impressed. <br/><br/>My wife's chicken and cashew was nice though.

Not bad but not great either. We had to wait quite a while to be served (I'm unsure if they forgot about us or if they were understaffed, there were not many customers though), and table service was okay. The food was a bit pricey, but the portions were more than enough to satisfy, and though it was nice I've had better Thai. My seat was rather uncomfortable, which made it a pain to get relaxed enough to eat. I'd like to go back and try something else from their menu, but maybe choose takeaway next time.

We invited friends out to dinner and selected Thai Torbay as it is close to home. The restaurant has been refurbished since our last visit many years back. Still Very clean. We found the staff very welcoming, and helpful. We selected 4 entrees, 4 mains. The food was fresh and delicious. Yes it was a surprise to have to pay for rice. (Some other restaurants you have to pay for vegetables!) <br/>For the tasty meals we ate, paying a couple of $ for rice didn't ruin the experience. We will eat there again.

We ate here tonight after not having been to this restaurant for a few years. It was delicious! The food was fantastic, reasonably priced and came exactly to the spice level we requested. The wait staff were very accommodating and efficient. We eat Thai at least once a week and found Thai Torbay to be right up there with the best. We'll definitely be back again.

They have the worst attitude towards their customers that I have ever seen in my life! <br/><br/>0/5 for customer service! <br/><br/>All we wanted was to have our left over food packed to take home and the man in the kitchen would not pack rice that was already paid for to go with the food. He complained about having to put rice in a separate container! To be honest what is a couple of cents worth of takeaway containers if it means making your customer happy? If your customer is happy they will come back tell their friends and spend much more money the next time they come. This man was so adamant that he would not give us rice and a container that when he finally decided to give it to us he said he hoped to never see us again! We never will come again! It makes me so angry to think a business owner would tell you to never come back. How do you expect to get more customers or build a good reputation as a place people want to go to?<br/><br/>We left angry and extremely disappointed. Rice that was paid for to be taken home in a container is not an unreasonable request. The owners should consider how they treat their customers and learn what battles to fight as rice and a container is a small investment in potential word of mouth advertising as well as loyal customers coming back.<br/><br/>Price 3/5. <br/><br/>The food was over priced already and we had to pay extra to have rice with a meal that would obviously need rice. Why not add the price to the main and include the rice?<br/><br/>You probably get one small bowl worth of food that any hungry man would need at least 3 or more meals to get full. The price was about $23 for a small portion.<br/><br/>2/5 food<br/><br/>My pad Thai had Toma toe sauce. That's all I have to say. It was Thai spaghetti. Weird and only ate it because I was starving.

We celebrated our 57th Wedding Anniversary today with a meal at Thai Torbay. Sorry.<br/><br/>Have been to Thai Torbay Restaurant about 5 times for take aways. Would not sit down for lunch of dinner because the feel is about 1980's. The quality of the dishes is probably the worst compared with all the other North Shore Thai restaurants. They really have to upgrade their quality to stand the competition with other similar situated Thai places. I am a great fan of Thai cuisine. This place and the food quality makes me sad.<br/><br/><br/>UPDATE<br/>I wonder who and how there are some 5 star ratings???!

amazing athauntic thai food. staff there are lovely and takeaway is very fast. a bit pricey but definetly worth the money. very friendly for children and a nice family dinner. deserts are yummy and servce is quick and affective.

We eat out alot and this is our favourite restaurant in Auckland. The quality is great, very consistent, the staff are very professional and friendly and we always take our overseas visitors who consistently rate this as there best experience of Thai food anywhere. Unbeatable! We don't live locally any more but regularly travel to enjoy the experience.

This is one of our three favourite Thai restaurants on the Shore, with a wide range menu suited to all tastes, from Thai hot to very mild.<br/>Excellent service and staff, just can't fault it.<br/>Highly recommended.<br/>BYOW so saves on the cost, though a meal for two with entree,soup and main is about $65 (I mean how can we resist!!)<br/>Can book a table, or turn up early and there is usually plenty of room but does begin to fill up quickly after 7.30 pm.<br/>Great for sharing a Thai meal with friends
