Review Freeman And Grey - Auckland Central

Hugo Chou
definitely come here. nicely sized pizzas for one that come with a diverse range of toppings at a cheap price of $6 between 5-7pm. pizza was cooked very well, a lovely crust on the outside of all pizza's. the one staff member that was there and served us was brilliant, welcoming, and genuine. delivery of food was normal, very much satisfactory. ambience of the place was immaculate, very warm, cozy, dim led lighting made it so rustic. decor was great. a good selection of well known songs were also played throughout at a nice volume that did not impede conversation, but loud enough to jam every so often. we sat in a little secluded table with a continuous oval couch chair with cushions, was very nice, although inconvenient to leave to go to the loo. only bad comment is the state of the bathrooms. rather poor and lots of dirt and grime everywhere, not something u want to see.

Great staff, good pints on tap - it's an old building so a bit damp with some plumbing oddities. It's traditional anglo architecture with bathrooms up flights of stairs. Could have been a colonial-style homestead that was divided. Lots of rooms and diverse seating. The ambition of the pub is good - it's pricey but has potential.

Wow, what a find! Simple fare for a light finger dinner. Fantastic service both behind the counter and at table.highly recommend as a catch up venue after work Prices are really competitive, and the drinks wre ice cold .

Came here for an early dinner on a really nice day. There's a good amount of outdoor seating to enjoy sunny weather. Also, the pizza deal ($5 for any pizza between 5 and 7:30) is amazing! There are a lot of different pizzas. The ones I had were great! Would definitely come back here when I'm in the area.

Great place specially for large group up to the size of 10 to hangout. The pizza are really delicious and they have happy hours everyday from 12 to 2 pm and 5 to 7.30 pm which you get all the pizza for just $5 which otherwise costs $12 or more. They also serve drinks. You seat and spend long hours and the staff won't disturb or kick you out. And they keep serving if your hungry... Good for small group as well.

Came in at 12 & it coincided with $5 pizza time. Pizzas are so good! Light crust with plenty of toppings and not soggy or too hard. Perfect. The mint cream on my lamb pizza was so tasty. We also got steak sandwiches doubled up.. our meal was filling. You can choose how you like your steak cooked. As with most new places you tend to overorder but it was worth it. Also they had the Emerson Pale Ale which is one of our faves. Would go back for pizza and beer for sure. Guy on the bar was nice and we paid at the bar although they do provide table service as well. (we just found it easier this way) Water is self serve and menus can be found on the bar.

Had a celebration here with friends one weekend and it was FANTASTIC! Their pizzas were a hit, complemented with a lot of drinks and bar food options (the calamari was my favourite), staff was super friendly and accommodating (especially one of the ladies serving our table and the manager that night), ambience and music were fun and casual. Basically, love everything about that night! Highly recommended and will definitely be back šŸ‘

Amazing place to hangout. Nice ambience and service. The highlight is $5.00 pizza during happy hours.

Whether you're looking for happy hour after work drinks, a boogie at night, or a large private event space, Freeman's does cover all of these. The pizza to be honest isn't anything I'll go out of my way for, but I still like the service, decor, and the amount of space. There's outdoor seating below as well as a deck upstairs. Note that there may only be one or two craftbeers on tap if you're looking for that.

Awsome place well recommended considering it was my birthday n wedding day we had booked in too bar thirty one couple doors down and was very disappointed with the service we recieved and he was the manager so we got a refund and walked down too freeman and grey only 1 worker on at the time and 18 of us and the service was just amazing too accommodate us all at the last minute thankyou so much Jordan for your awsome hospitality we will definitely be back again

Was told the kitchen was closed at 8:30 when it is supposed to be open till 9 so that sucked. Drinks and staff were cool though. Edit: Happy with the owner addressing this.

Super chill atmosphere on a Monday afternoon. The pizzas are only 5$ between 5pm and 7.30pm which is a super bargain. The waitress was really friendly, quick and generally good at her job. The main seating downstairs is on bar stools and there is plenty of light coming in to the bar which is nice. Great place to chat with friends in the afternoon.

Love this place. Great location and great food. Love the dƩcor of the dining area... The open Streak sandwich is really good...

Beautiful place to host my 21st. Lovely staff - would recommend

Very nice place to have food and drinks, and talks. Service is good, staff is friendly. And price was also fine. Specially till 7.30 pm

Really nice lunch experience ! Unlike some other people that reviewed the place : we found the customer service great ! The staff greeted us with a smile once we entered and handed us menus , orders will be taken at the table. We decided for 2 of their $5 pizzas. About 5 minutes after ordering, my partner had a change of mind and the waitress was very nice about it and managed to change our order. We had the Salami & Funghi Pizza as well as the Funghi Pizza. Both came out within 15 minutes and were of decent size. We ordered a serve of their $12 Fish and Chips after. Fish was yummy aswell as the fries. Our bill was only $32 including the food above and 2 cokes. Definitely recommending this place and coming back for drinks at nighttime:)

Celebrated a very special event here today. A few more people than I expected turned up but the lady Hannah was so accommodating. We were served and cooked for by her too she is an absolute legend. Despite being down a staff member she took amazing care of us without stressing at all. The food tasted great and the vibe was on point.
Jeni Wren
Hugely disatisfied, service was poor ordered drinks and never got our drinks, went to the bar and the girl behind the bar knew nothing of our order. Had Mexicana Pizza and BBQ Di Pollo and both very disappointing, instead of sour cream I had cream cheese dolloped on my Mexican pizza, very stale corn chips and was not enjoyable the BBQ Di Pollo was a little tastier but just not nice all round. Pretty sad as we used to love this place and sent so many of our travelling friends but I definitely would not recommend this place anymore!!

Freeman and Grey is a great place to go for casual drinks and food or a big night out! The food is great and reasonably priced and the service is fabulous, particularly from Ben.
Anna Walker
I came here for the first time with a big group for lunch. The food is amazing! Best fries I've had in a long time. They catered so well for the large group. The service was on point esp Ewan & Liam. Will definitely be recommending this place to others and will come back for those $4 pizzas.
Jackson Munn
We had a great experience last night! Our waiter was a guy named Ben, he gave amazing service, including great conversation, good recommendations, and made / suggested some great drinks! The food was great and I hope to served by Ben again for the great service (and banter)!
Daniel Fletcher
Dropped in for a spot of lunch today. The beer was good and the pizzas were spot on and an absolute bargain at $4. The service was amazing from Ben, a real asset to the place.
Grace McKee-Body
Never go here, the place smells like a toilet for some reason and the pizza is consistently soggy. Service is very confusing as you have multiple servers who do not communicate with each other
Jennifer Christie
100% recommend! Ben was great! Knows his wine and the pizzas are delish! Everyone should go here all day erry day.
Shannon Carole Bruce
Amazing service! Amazing food! Awesome staff! This is my favourite place! $4 pizzas are huge and so yum! I'm hard to please when it comes to food, but this place was amazing!
Shane Fox
During happy hour, the $4 pizzas were a good deal. The Belgian wheat beer and the chicken salad were tasty, as well.
Kaitlin Purchase
Went to Freeman and Grey on Ponsonby road and had the best service! Ben is the best!
Carrie Green
Staff are awesome, pizza is great but downstairs smells like sewage.
Lauren Coleman
Hosted my 21st here upstairs and it was fantastic! Especially have to comment on how cool the staff were, so friendly and polite and kept everything cleared and clean and served everyone promptly, loved the food and the prices, lovely decor and atmosphere and the music was super danceable and not pretentious or trashy would 100% recommend even my older family members thought it was a great choice of venue thanks so much f&g!

We come here a lot a bunch of gfs for arvo pizzas and wines and the food is fantastic , only thing is thereā€™s always one staff member on and yesterday there was over 35 patrons in, we were sitting out the front in the sun and we noticed the huge umbrella was unstable as it fell a little bit and we told the staff member and she told us to turn it around as itā€™s more stable , which we did , she did say I have been telling them we need new ones , but they wonā€™t !!! Bugger me about 20 mins later this huge wooden umbrella fell on my head , I was pale and shaky for about 30 mins , we had to ask for ice for my head, also they took the umbrella away, we were given 4 glasses of wine 1 each but I didnā€™t drink anymore as I just had a head injury ļæ½ spoilt my arvo with the girls , we went across the road to look at something and came back as my car was parked outside and bugger me they had put the same umbrella back out ( just terrible) not impressed.

Hey. We just went to your place for lunch. We ordered pizzas, then we waited for almost an hour. The pizza finally turned up but you were two pizzas short. You said they'd 'only be a couple of minutes'. We stood around for another 25 minutes waiting for them. We paid our bill, then gave up waiting. We told your waitress we couldn't wait for the pizzas anymore and had to get back to work. The waitress said 'ok'. No apology or nothing. Our customer experience was atrocious and you owe us $8.
Zoe Jane
Have been here heaps but tonight was particularly fantastic after the fabulous and lovely Ben was our host with the most! Great recommendations from him and excellent banter, can't wait to come back. Go Ben you're amazing! An absolute asset to the business. The Arancini balls are an must ļæ½
Abby Harris
Unreal service thanks to Benji! (Ben) - makes the place!
Rajan Dhaka
The $5 pizza deal is really awesome. Loved the la fiesta(v) was our favourite. Portion size is good too! 12 dollar for Pizza and Beer if you order before 7:30pm, what else do we need?
Helena Wilson
Terrible service.

Amazing amazing place. I cannot recommend it enough!! I booked a table for my 30th and had the best time. Super affordable with great specials. Really helpful and friendly staff. Cosy atmosphere. Thank you so so much! Definitely coming back!

Loved the culture! Met new people, had good drinks and food and enjoyed the experience overall :)

Nice casual pl to enjoy $5 pizza. Service was nice. Lovely outdoor space perfect for sunny days. Reasonable prices for Ponsonby.

We came in during lunch to try their $5 pizzas, we got the Pollo e Brie and a Tre Carne.<br/><br/>Although initially the size of the pizzas look quite small, one pizza is definitely enough per person. The flavour of the pollo e brie was very nice and had an abundance of cheese, however the chicken was a bit dry and the pistachio cream just tasted like sour cream. The three different types of meat on the tre carne were delicious, but the pizza overall was a bit too peppery for me.<br/><br/>Service was very friendly and warm, however I did feel like we had to wait a bit for the food to come out. Still incredible value for such a nice restaurant in Ponsonby.

The only photo that was taken after the food had been consumed. I love their pizzas with their unique toppings on them.<br/><br/>Friendly service and also a great venue for private functions.

Had a birthday party here. Good ambience. Had jugs of beer n heaps of pizza as $5. Beer seemed not upto the mark but pizza were nice. Tried all varieties of pizza. Overall a good place. Expected more of quality in beer.<br/>Service was good n prompt and staff attentive.

A cool pub in Ponsonby area. Very cozy insides. Good for some drinks after work. Their $5 pizza deal really worths the go. Music is super nice. Will come back :)

Havenā€™t been here for a while but their service has really improved, and the design of their menu has changed for the better (same food + prices)! Iā€™m so glad they have their special $5 pizzas even on the weekends as well, as I went in to use my birthday voucher. They were not fussed about me using the voucher to pay and food was served very quickly (10 mins).Ā <br/><br/>I always get the Pollo e Brie as the pistachio cream and sweet chilli sauce goes well together. Their frose and cocktails are not bad either! Very cheap but filling pizzas in Ponsonby!
L ?
Love their pizzas! Itā€™s big enough to share but you can also have it all to yourself if youā€™re feeling a little hungry lol and they are very delicious too šŸ˜‹
Megan
Common spot for my friends and I, always get served by friendly people and the pizza is so yum. Nice little place too with a good atmosphere and aesthetic
Rhea Kirstienne Chang
Was there for a late night Friday dinner date so the ambience was a bit different considering it was weekend and the place was more like a bar or pub at that time. The pizza was great though and had Jack & cola for drinks. Staff was nice and friendly and music was good. Will have to try again maybe on an earlier time and not on a weekend.

| Mexicana, Mirtillio e Brie, Salami e Funghi pizza |<br/>-<br/>A great cheap eat location, pizzas only $5 between 12-2pm and 5-7.30pm. Service was amazing and very accommodating with any dietary requirements. They changed the meats out for mushrooms. The Mirtillio e Brie was my favourite the combination of cranberry sauce and Brie šŸ˜‹ The Mexicana was amazing too, any jalapeno lover will appreciate the spicy kick.<br/>

We have been coming to this place for over a year now for quiz night and we usually love it. However all of a sudden the music has to be played very loud during quiz, making it less of a friendly, sociable environment.
Lucyeatsakld
Perfect choice for a cheap date night in Ponsonby with their $5 pizza deals between 5 and 7pm. Had the chicken and brie pizza and shared some fries, nice and easy meal and food came out super quick.
Sophie Wilton
pizza here is the star of the show and with their friends deal I can see why everyone raves about it! Honestly I feel like I can just keep eating after finishing one pizza because itā€™s so good! Mind this picture is HALF of a pizza because I was so excited and ate before remembering to take a picture

Worst manager ever, my colleague's last day at work, so went here with colleagues and the manager dishonored their own $150 voucher ($100 & $50) that has no expiry date on them. There is no terms and conditions written on the voucher either, but the manager said that because their system can't recognise the voucher codes hence she can't honor them. The most ridiculous excuse I've heard. It's not our problem that the codes you generated not getting recognized by your own system. The manager said, she will knock off $25 off the bill instead of $150 voucher but told us not to come back. How rude and unprofessional.Ā  Despite what happened, pizzas were great, however huge let down by the unprofessional manager.

The place is chic and you get great vibes. Really cool atmosphere if you want to drink and enjoy with friends. If just for that, I may happily give 4 stars.<br/><br/>But food unfortunately is not that great. Who goes there mainly just for food? Apart from our group maybe. But surely there are people like us, we believe.Ā <br/><br/>In pizzas, we tried Funghi (Below average), Mediterranean (Average), Pugliese (Best of the lot), Bbq de Pollo (Average), La Fiesta (Average) and another average pizza. Nothing great about them. For $5 they are OK but for full price, not at all.<br/><br/>Spicy fried chicken with paprika aioli was best thing we had mainly because it was crisp and hot. Didn't had too much flavor though. Same story with Calamari rings with chilli flakes and coriander.<br/><br/>In drinks, Froze was good. But Mojito was one of the least appealing I ever had.
Victoria Jenner
Why not come here. Cheap pizzas, great atmosphere. Few drinks can turn into many so be careful. They have a great point members system to get free stuff. Even if your pizza was average you wouldn't care.

Came here a few weeks ago. Nice ambiance and good service. The meatballs with sauce and cheese was really delicious, as were the prawns. The pizzas were so-so taste wise and portion wise. Iā€™d come here again :)
Winnie Chauchau
$5 pizzas now run all day, everyday, so was pleasantly surprised! Pretty good value for what you're paying. Beer-battered fries were nice and crispy, and loved having both ketchup and aioli served with it as well. Two pizzas and fries filled up two of us. Service was a bit patchy, as we weren't sure whether to just take a seat by ourselves, where we could find menus, or where we could order. Maybe this was because we went quite early, around 5:30pm before more staff started their shifts. Definitely will be back to try their frose!
Auckland Foodie
Really enjoyed the $5 pizzas, they were delicious and so cheap. the sangria was really nice too and we enjoyed the busy atmosphere of the place!

Worst experience at any restaurant I've been to. I showed the staff my ID as she asked for it inside my see-through pocket of my wallet where ID's are kept, then she talked to me in such a tone to take it out. That was already a first bad impression to me. After we had ordered, a Chinese group of elderly women who obviously couldn't speak English well were trying to see how the menu worked and then she started yelling at them so the entire restaurant could hear, "I don't understand you!" And being super rude. She then started laughing at the Chinese group of people when they left the counter to go back to their seat with some of the customers and then said, "they're idiots!" which could clearly be heard by customers. At this point I was furious because I felt like she was disrespecting them as they were Asians. A language barrier shouldn't mean she has to be so rude. After we had eaten and went up to pay, we confronted her about the issue and she wouldn't even let us talk. She kept interrupting and her excuse was cause she's been dealing with them for an hour? Nope. I've worked in customer service for 5 years and I know that is very wrong. She's ruined the reputation of the store. Oh, and found out that she was actually the manager too. Not returning to this place again.<br/> <br/>I posted this issue on my story and about 15 other people replied to me saying they've experienced the same thing. Most of the responses were of Asian ethnicity too.

I came in on Sunday 4th March for my birthday dinner with some friends. We had a great time at Freeman & Grey! The service was slow, although the food came out quickly and was fantastic! We each ordered a $5 pizza from the large range of choices, and mine was gluten free (as requested) - I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this did not alter the price of the pizza! My friend and I shared the RosĆ© Sangria which was to die for!Ā <br/><br/>Overall a fantastic experience. Would recommend and will definitely be back!

Decent pizza here, I certainly can't complain about them when they're only five bucks during happy hours. Fried chicken is okay but nothing else quite caught the eye (or the stomach rather).<br/><br/>It's a busy bar at night so all the tables are sticky. Good for a few casual bites.

I was enticed in by the $5 pizza sign (selected times) but available every day!<br/>Wow! The chorizo one was incredible, will be back tomorrow to test out a different flavour, then the day after next šŸ˜‚šŸ‘šŸ»

Terrible service. We booked a table with confirmatory email and ended up having a much smaller table. We had 9 people and were given 1 food menu. We waited 20 minutes to order and 30 minutes for bar food, bar food! Then guess what, our food arrived but our first round of drinks are still not poured. Definitely not gonna come back again. Nope Iā€™m gonna reduce point further. 25 min after eating our food, drinks had arrived - of course they delivered the wrong beers and wrong size of beer.

Such good value for really great quality food! Staff were friendly and there was plenty of seating. I bought the chicken sandwich for $10 and my plate was full of delicious chips and a big sandwich ! Everything was so tasty and fresh, I will definitely be coming back. I also tried the roast vege pizza and used the free pizza promotion, super delicious and I really liked ā€œthe hipsterā€ cocktail. Overall delicious food and at a ridiculously cheap price, a must visit for sure!

Great little venue on Ponsonby Road. Friendly service and can't beat the $5 pizzas they are delish and awesome value for an early dinner or beer n pizza in the sun over summer

As excited I was to go to this place I had been eyeing out while going past it for a year or so, I unfortunately left with disappointment. <br/><br/>We walked in as soon as it opened at 12pm. I was aware of how busy they get instantly as groups of people walked in just after us. There were only 2 waitresses during our stay, one taking orders, the other making the drinks. I noticed many people getting frustrated with the wait time and some were even vocal about it. <br/><br/>The $5 pizza menu is what catches everyones eyes with the big board outside. My mate and I ordered two pizzas and fries. The fries that were $11 were barely hot, we didn't mind paying 11 for fries because everything else was cheap but paying for warm/cold fries is obviously annoying. <br/>The pizza on the other hand smelt like the cheese or the cream on it was off, the chicken pieces were dry and the pizza base itself was like pizza bread from the supermarket with afew toppings on top of it. For $5 you cant expect much but the reviews seemed like this place was legit hence the high expectations. I would have rather ordered something like fish n chips. <br/><br/>We left with our food unfinished and stomachs unsatisfied. The drinks were the only hero's of the afternoon spent here. The waitress at the counter who was making drinks did not bother telling us she'd be afew minutes while she was making her drinks infront of us and completely ignored the fact that we were waiting to pay. She didn't ask if we enjoyed our meal or not either as I could have told her how we really felt about the place. All we got from her was a 'see ya'. Not the most friendliest staff. <br/><br/>Most definitely would not come back for the pizzas, would rather go for something else.
Natalie Dolan
Freeman & Grey is my local- it has great deals on wine when you join their online club, and the now $5) pancetta pizza is to die for. Service is always amazing, but the place is definitely missing their former manager, Ben. He made an effort to treat every customer like a friend, and was clearly an integral part of the company. Though I will continue to stop by for my afternoon bevvy, or later at night, it's not quite the same.

Okay i have to start with the $4 pizza. Omg it is so tasty. Such a brilliant idea and definately have us coming for more. <br/><br/>Great place. Good Service and overall wonderful time. <br/><br/>I definitely gonna brag to everyone about your delicious pizza. Its insanely good for the price!

We go there for the $4 pizzas. You cant beat that anywhere else! They put generous amount of toppings on top . Our favourie is the chicken with pistachio cream yum!!
Eniboo
$4 pizzas can go wrong if your getting a group together to have a celebration of some sort. Pizzas are very filling if u get 2 or more. Awesome flavor for just $4. The sangria is also something to get while your enjoying a bite. Very nice set up inside and always welcomed with friendly staff. Defiantly recommend trying on a chill evening if you want to get outta the house for a few hours. Saturday nights are also a good time out!

One of those places you need ID so couldn't bring my little cousin to try their amazing fish and chips! Great service, nice open space, and friendly staff. Their cheap pizza is so good, would pay more but glad I dont have to!
Candyfloss
One of the staff members was plain rude, her expression when I said I didn't want to order any drinks was offending! I'm very glad I didn't have to see her for the rest of the night as a lovely male staff member served us. The pizza I ordered was quite good

Pizza are legit here. Too good, so many flavours to choose from. Its my 7th time here already. Love the place and friendly staff. Ribs were the bomb, so yummy.

We hired the upstairs room for a 21st and had a fantastic night. Food was great, room looked amazing and staff were friendly and incredibly helpful from first email enquiry right until we left at the end of the night. TV's were available for photos and there were microphones for speeches. Brilliant place for a function
Giggles96
Service? What service? Booked a table for a couple of friends for my birthday. Live music was great! But spicy chicken wasn't even spicy, and tasted awful! We had to go up every time we wanted to order drinks and food, they didn't clear any of the plates or glasses. Wouldn't go back. Pretty disappointed for a ponsonby restaurant/bar, especially when you go to almost any other place in ponsonby and they're real hospo interactive staff they give recommendations for food and drinks.. upsetting when you see the good reviews that make you want to go to a place and just didn't meet my expectations. I'm not one to post bad feedback, but yeah..

An ideal place to get together with friends and catch-up. Their $4 pizzas between 12-2pm are a bargain for lunch and the beer battered fries are good too! Signing up for their VIP club also gives you added value too with free vouchers especially around your birthday. Staff are very friendly and hospitable too!
Teiva Cassart
Friendly service & staff! Great vibe, lovely food and overall, excellent! Highly recommend it if you're around ponsonby ! Oh, and the pizzas, delicious!
Daryl Albert
$4 dollar pizzas enough said, great waitresses and food timing was standard decent atmosphere and warm. I will be going here alot more to watch the rugby
I_like_pickles
Nice place for casual get togethers. I really like their pizzas. They are served on cute wooden boards and are great for sharing.<br/><br/>I really like the size of the pizzas. I like the different flavour varieties available. Service is quick, food is served rapidly and staff are friendly.
S&G Take Auckland
This review is based on the food, and not the rowdy crowd that one must endure should you choose to spend a Saturday night there.<br/><br/>The pizza specials are phenom! $4 for some seriously tasty pizza. The funghi one is my favourite and also the cheese and garlic pizza. What you might not know is that their polenta chips are the best! (I love me a good polenta chip) Unfortunately you have to wait for the dinner menu to get your hands on these though. Please please put them on the lunch menu!
Miura Elikana
This place has a relaxing atmosphere. They have $4 pizza from 12-2pm which is super cheap and they're delicious too. I ordered the Chicken e brie pizza and the Mirtillo e brie. I preferred the chicken & Brie. My brother ordered the Abbacio (lamb pizza) which was rich. If you're looking for a place to hang out that's affordable then this is great. I do have to mention that that there was a bit of a wait for our food but the waitress apologised.

Freeman & grey is beautiful restaurant. The interior is very good.i got attracted by their happy hour PIZZA that is really delicious just for 4$ GOURMET PIZZA. This place is mostly busy & staff is good. Its great place to meet up friends.

One of the best places that i visited in Auckland. Really raw and rustic interiors with a dash of hip! Best place to catch up with your friends over weekend brunch. Being an avid Pizza lover, well you know now what would have been on my menu. Smart, Aye! <br/>La Fiesta, Pollo E Brie (Other two pizzas cant remember, sorry!) , and a chicken sandwhich with some fries is what we ordered. Staff is really warm and welcoming and very economical at the same time scrumptious.
Laurie540
Cheap but still not worth it. Cocktails were awful. Pizza bases were doughy and uncooked, chicken was dry, and overall they were bland. Half an hour after ordering had to go follow up on our drinks which hadn't arrived yet. Our entree and mains then arrived together, before our drinks, and without napkins or cutlery which we then waited another 10 mins for. Very disappointed.

Situated between Freemans Bay and Grey Lynn, this two-story pub has been constantly abuzz whenever we have walked past. Upon entering the cool concrete building, you can select from their multiple seating spaces to find one suited to your liking: a sun-drenched porch for people watching, a quiet corner lined with string lights and set against a cosy wall of vines, a table set in the hustle and bustle of the Ponsonby pavement highway or perhaps in a strategic spot next to the bar and TV screens? We particularly loved their exposed brick interiors, grabby branding and greenery-spammage. You can expect a typical selection of bar food on the menu: antipasto platters, pizzas for africa, fried fare and open sandwiches ā€” with of course, a wide selection of alcoholic drinks. What made our jaws drop, though, was the $4 tag on the rush-hour pizzas ā€” served between 12-2pm and 5-7:30pm - with flavours like lamb & mint or chicken & cranberry brie, did we just die and go to cheap food heaven? Probably.<br/><br/>Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/freeman-and-grey-april-2015

Nice place for after work drinks. They run some nice specials until 7pm like the $4 pizzas. Its more flatbreads than pizzas, but for $4 who cares? Great vibe and good music, though it gets crowded quickly
Angel
Came here with a large group (around 10 people) staff were great, food came out at scattered times, 10 mins between some meals and the pizzas we ordered ALL tasted like cardboard and majority were hard and cold. Wouldn't recomend this place to anyone let alone come back here
Marggie Pascua
Been here a couple of times, recently we had out Communication Design after party here on the second floor and it was great. People were very nice, drinks were subsidised and also great music. Early in the evening the music wasn't that great, until it got busy and the music was good. It gets so crowded too fast.

These guys get a 3.5 for value for money alone.<br/><br/>$4 for a pizza. Ā Four dollars. Ā FOUR FRICKEN DOLLARS!<br/><br/>In the middle of Ponsonby that's a steal and one hell of a cheap date night.<br/>The Pizza's aren't spectacular, we ordered 4 of them, The Chorizo, Tre Carne, Pollo e Brie and the Agnello. Ā A couple of them were a bit bland, the other two were tasty. Ā But when you're eating $4 Pizza, you eat what you're given with no complaints.<br/><br/>Service was slow - we were seated quickly by a lovely girl, however we then waited 10-15min before we were served for drinks. Ā The atmosphere in the restaurant is dark and a little romantic and they were playing an awesome selection of tunes, a big plus in my books.<br/><br/>Nuff said.
Mikayla Plaziuk
We luckily walked in the door at 12:30 in time for their $4 pizzas deal! It was my first time being there and I got the Mexicana pizza while my friend got the lamb one with caramelised onions, both were pretty good! We both also got a side of chips each because the pizzas alone aren't enough to fill us as they're quite small. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and it was nice and warm too. The tables you could see previous drink marks and the side plates weren't immaculate. The service was reasonably friendly and fast, but not rushed which was good! The water glasses had lipstick and food marks so we didn't both using them. The chips were delicious! Seasoned in some sort of lemon pepper and they came with tomato sauce AND aioli which we loved! All in all a decent experience bar a few hygiene factors, and to top it off my pizza was free because it was my first time there and I had a code! Check out the website for that if your a first timer!

My partner and I decided to try Freeman & Grey because of a deal we had found out about where you become a member of their club (free to join, just send your email I'm a txt) and you get a free pizza. The lighting is quite dim so i couldn't take photos of the food but other than that the decor was quite nice and had a friendly homely feel. As the establishment is a bar/pub type of establishment it was quite noisy at times because of drunk diners which was the only real negative thing about the place. Our food came out in average time but the pizzas were tasty and the chips we ordered were to die for! The waitress we had was also very friendly and helpful as she was helping me choose which drink I would have telling me about each one. I would definitely come back here anytime! Recommend! :)

$4 pizza that tastes this good?! I ordered the Mediterranean pizza. My friend got the roasted vege one. Amazing value for money, really filling and such generous portions. Would really recommend checking them out. They also tasted relatively healthy (for pizza) no thick sauces or bases and the base was crispy.<br/>Service was awesome too.

Freeman Grey used to be me and my friends favorite bar in Auckland however its not nice as much as before anymore... I got really disappointed in few weeks time...Ā <br/><br/>Usually coming here for a dinner after work with my friends, we always enjoyed the Spicy Fried chicken and $4 Value pizza deals! Ā However food quality is much different compare last 3 months(probably) the Flavor of ribs were totally different, tomato sauce on pizza also really bad nowadays...Flavorless... me and my friends felt they been cooking in rush! Fried squid were chewy and no flavor... used to be melt in mouth and fully flavored! Fried chicken were awesome before but something changed and we didn't enjoyed much... We also used to come for a fish&chips and pasta on weekends but its not nice anymore... very very Ā very disappointed. Drinks were alright, not many cocktail options actually and just average house wine choices.

Service was awesome, straightaway served when I arrive late to a function, missed the pizza deal but surprisingly the pizzas were still delish cold! Drinks was great. Had a stuff up with paying but again the service was outstanding and was solved straightaway...

One of my fav place to chill in Ponsonby! I love their $4 pizza deal, really good quality pizzas thin crust and generous amount of toppings! Other dishes were also yum! I also enjoy the live music and hospitable staff! Great cheap eats and ambiance, nice place to catch up with mates!

Freeman and Grey has become an almost weekly go-to for the ultimate and penultimate year students in Auckland. Every weekend without a doubt you're bound to run into someone you know. The music is very hit and miss but the vibe is excellent! The bouncers are far friendlier than those in town aswell.<br/><br/><br/> The food is ok.

My daughter wanted pizza treat as we had a deal for a school award for a meal of her choice. So we decided to come to Ponsonby and looked for pizza place, Zomato lead us here and I got a pleasant surprised for $4 pizza.<br/>We ordered a pizza for each of us and all turned well. We also ordered the beer battered chips and the chips was really good. <br/>We tried to order other dishes but unfortunately they have limited choice for lunch.<br/>Anyway, we would definitely return.

Even though I've been coming here once a week for the last year and a half, I can only score a 4. While the food is always amazing, unfortunately the service is not. A recent change in management has seen many new staff through the door who have no idea who we are (myself and friends who are regulars) and little mistakes keep happening. It's a shame the ball has been dropped on service because as mentioned previously, the food is great.

Freeman and grey. Have been enjoying this spot for a few years now. Often come to the Quiz nghts which are really fun. <br/><br/>The $4 pizzas have a wide range and are not the best but they are good. I always have the chorizo and the pollo e brie. I can eat 3 because I'm a fatty and they are tasty. <br/><br/>The only let down is the service. It has been getting worse. Was there for lunch the other day and the wait staff are just talking to each other and we were clearly waiting for like 15 mins which they saw us but did not aknowledge. But yeah all and all fun spot.

Best place in Ponsonby by far!<br/><br/>Awesome dinner and lunch, definitely value for money. And the late night action is always epic with the live music late week and the DJs going hard late night on Friday and Saturday.Ā <br/><br/>OH, and forgot to mention - $4 pizzas from 12 - 2pm and 5 - 7.30pm!

I came here for the $4 pizzas which are pretty sweet! I ordered the mexicana, not the most amazing pizzas but for $4 they are well worth it. Large variety of flavours to choose from and a generous size. I will definately be back!

Freeman & Grey is a great place to hang out with cheap drinks and $4 pizzas. <br/><br/>We really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The service was also great; we had a fairly large group who ordered two pizzas each and were served quickly.

Came here with 3 of my friends on Saturday around 1.45pm and 2 of them were visiting from Germany and I felt I needed to show them the great eats that Ponsonby had to offer. <br/><br/>This place offered $4 pizzas and $10 main meals between 12 - 2pm. The food that came out was yummy and fresh and I enjoyed my food. <br/><br/>However, I am reluctant to come back because of the AWFUL service we received. Firstly, we walked in and got asked to find a table and sit down and she would bring us menus. The place was not filled at all but 10 mins later, still no menu. I went up to the lady at the counter to find her txting. This was already a shitty start.<br/><br/>A different guy then came and took out order and looked like this was the last place he wanted to be. Would not answer our questions properly, not a smile whatsoever and had a personality of a plastic plant. He then said he would come back afterwards to take our drink orders and when he came back, he went to the table next to us. The table next to us saw us confused and mentioned something to him. He then turned his body half around and said 'what do you want'. This is disgusting customer service. <br/><br/>To top it off, they forgot one of my friends orders completely and gave us a random extra pizza we had not ordered. The waiter was obviously not listening to our order. <br/><br/>After we told them about the missing order, they did eventually bring out her tortilla (after everyone was finished eating) and said its on the house. <br/><br/>Food was good and cheap. But customer service is so important and this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I was genuinely embarrassed to bring my visiting friends here.

Hi Guys,<br/><br/>this is my first review, so please bear with me if this review is not perfect yet. Thaaanks :)<br/><br/>I went to Freeman & Grey with some of my friends because we got these vouchers for a free lunch time pizza (which without a voucher costs only 4$, so still pretty cheap). The pizzas came like 10minutes after our order, so that was pretty fast. We had to ask for the waiter to bring us water and when we wanted to order more pizza we had to go to the bar to order them because the waiter didn't ask us if we wanted more. So I have to take off 0.5 points for this.<br/>But the waiters were still very nice and they cleared the table quickly after we were done, so I cannot complain about anything else.<br/>There are a lot of different pizza toppings you can choose from (we chose Mediterranean, Tre Carne, Pollo & Brie, Margherita, Lamb, La Fiesta, Hawaiian and Pancetta) and they were all very good. The bases were thin and crispy but still substantial and the toppings fresh and of good quality.<br/><br/>So all in all I can really recommend Freeman & Grey, especially for Lunch with the 4$ deal.<br/><br/>I hope you like my first review and have fun at Freeman & Grey

We ordered a Hawaiian pizza, a salami pizza and a pepperoni pizza for dinner one weekday evening.<br/><br/>The restaurant was big and they have outdoor and indoor seating. I suggested you to request for indoor unless you love the sunshine (which is too hot for me and my children).<br/><br/>The oval shape pizzas were cut into 6 slices. They were make in the simplest way. Not too many ingredients on them. Taste good and all of them were above what we expected.<br/><br/> And when you sign up for mailing list, you can get pizza for free. (Don't forget to ask for become a friend of freeman & grey).<br/><br/>We will be back for more pizzas.

My friend marched me down here for lunch and as I walked in I noticed how the other patrons looked happy and were smiling, then I discovered why....$4 pizzas! You can't even get parking in Ponsonby for $4...ok ...its not going to win accreditation from Associazione Verace Pizza napoletana, but its a perfectly acceptable, thin crust pizza with a good variety of choices for toppings.<br/>We had the mexican and the mediterranean, both were delicious.<br/>The service was quick and very friendly, and the coffee is good.<br/>You can't go wrong for a nice lunch.
Francisca Madeira
Randomly went inside to have a drink on a Saturday night, just after dinner. The music downstairs was good, but upstairs was better. And the weather was inviting us to have that drink in the balcony. After a while, the dance floor was packed and the music was just perfect. Nice crowd and great music, just a shame the drinks were overpriced and poorly prepared. Other than that, such a great surprise! Ended up staying there the whole night!!!

Have been here quite a bit with my boyfriend. We really like the $4 pizza deals and the beer batter chips are really good. Have returned here many times because of the nice atmosphere, live music and friendly staff. They also have a really good selection of beer and wine!<br/>Pizzas are not amazing, but good. Wouldn't pay full price but would happily pay $4 for the atmosphere and everything else.<br/>They also have really good live music on sometimes and have heard it's a great bar on Friday and Saturday nights. <br/>

Haven't actually been in here to dine but have a rude experience over the phone. Had a booking for my birthday but they won't allow people under the age of 18 unless they have a parent or legal guardian. I thought it would of been fine as there were a lot of people over the age of 18 there who are parents but not of friend who is coming. Not happy won't ever come here due to lack of help and good customer service over the phone.

Located in the heart of Ponsonby, not only does this place have a lovely dining area (both inside AND outside), pretty decoration and a relaxing vibe, it most importantly offers amazing pizzas at just $4! Now that's the real deal. Strongly recommend it for dinner or just casual tapas with a beer while enjoying a game of rugby! Their spicy fried chicken is also fire! :)

Came to freeman & grey this afternoon with my partner for a late lunch. We managed to catch happy hour so all the pizzas were $4 down from $8.90. My partner ordered the Hawaiian, margarita and the lamb pizza and I ordered the margarita and pepperoni. All the pizzas were quite tasty, but also really dry. They could use a bit more base sauce but for $4 who can really complain. They tasted fresh and overall quite enjoyable. My partner also ordered the steak sandwich with beer battered lemon pepper fries. He didn't get asked how he wanted his steak cooked so it came out quite rare instead on medium rare but he ate it anyway and he really enjoyed it, especially seeing as it was only $10 as it was a part of the express lunch menu. We were a little dissapointed when we were told that they don't serve the calamari, prawn twisters, polenta sticks and rib entree/snacks for lunch because we really wanted to try them! We didn't get given any water, or asked if we wanted any until we were pretty much done with our meals but other than that we would happily go back

Wow! Was pleasantly surprised by this place. I usually only come here for 'after dark' festivities but I thought I should check out the day time affair of food. The menu was full of great options which would suit a range of people's tastes and requirements. It was extremely well priced with $4 pizza specials (12-2pm) and $10 lunch items. The staff were lovely and the service was fast. The best part was the food, which is the way it should be! Try the red pepper pasta, mm!

Good value for money with the cheap $4 pizzas during happy hour, this is about the only thing I have eaten at freeman and grey. Yet to try the full menu here #g1

The star here is definitely the $4 pizza deal. I've been a few times and only ever had the pizza so my review is somewhat limited to that, however, the selection is good (a few veg options) and the pizzas are decent (for $4). The drinks are reasonably priced and it has a nice "pub like" feel to it. Haven't been while it's been too busy so it's always been quiet and relaxed while dining. Overall, the vibe is nice and the food is decent, although, I'm not sure I'd say the same if I did have to pay full price for the pizzas (i.e. They are good for $4, maybe not for $12). If you are looking for a cheap lunch option on Ponsonby road I'd recommend!

Nice place to go for a couple of drinks and some good value snacks, gets very busy on a night time at weekends. <br/>Relaxing place during the day, especially when the sun is out!

We made the most of Freeman & Greyā€™s free pizza deal (text in your email to sign up to their newsletter and get a free pizza out of it), and four of us went at once to get four free pizzaā€™s to share. The staff were really good about it and didnā€™t push us to buy any drinks or extras, which is awesome considering we pretty much got a free meal. The pizzaā€™s were tasty and there are heaps of interesting flavours to pick from. The base tasted homemade (in a good way) with a good amount of toppings and stringy pizza cheese. Would go great with after work drinks or just as a quick and easy lunch.

This is a great Restaurant Ā and a most go to for anyone who loves pizza and Gluten free food Ā as they do a lot of Gluten free Pizzas to and I Myself always bring my friends and Family there a lot Because Freeman and Grey is so Great to eat at and don't cost a arm and a leg if you go at the right times see there menu for the times i mean where the pizzas Ā are 4 and the gluten frees are 7 but still a cheap play to eat at but also good food for the price you pay you will get way better than any other Pizza takeway place out eg Pizza hut or Hells pizza i believe so Please do go try it

I went to Freeman&Grey at lunch time and ordered a pancetta pizza which was very nice, crispy based with rich cheese and smoked bacon. I ordered a flat white coffee as well, which was just all right compared with their pizzas.
Brooke Macdonald
One of my favourite places to catch up with friends and enjoy dinner. The food was so yum and the staff were super friendly and fun. Pizzas were amazing and only cost $4!!!!! And wine was $7!!! Such a good deal and will definitely go again.

On a Friday night this place buzzes. Impressively we were there with a large bunch of kids and no problem fitting us in, plenty of room upstairs and who can say no to $4 pizzas, bring em all through. Our unqualified palates chowing back on their simple construction. With some dimmed lighting and loud music, this is more of a place to chill and it attracts a young happening sort of crowd. Great location along the main strip with easy access to plenty more bars and food joints. Service and ambience fabulous.

Me and my friend went there to have dinner, we enjoyed the pizza and the spicy chicken... The service is good also they are very attentive and they serve the food with a smile.

I was worried about going to Freeman & Grey's because I was poor, and the $4 pizzas deal sounded far too good to be true.<br/><br/>I assumed one of three options. The deal wouldn't be on. The pizzas would be average. The pizzas would be tiny.<br/><br/>Fortunately, my fears were unwarranted.Ā <br/><br/>Upon walking into Freeman & Grey's on a Sunday night it seemed like a cozy, cute and friendly environment. I know it's more of a bar on a Friday/Saturday night. But it was definitely more of a quiet restaurant on a Sunday evening.Ā <br/><br/>The staff were friendly, and didn't judge us when we ordered 7 pizzas between 4 of us. The pizzas are $4 from 5-7:30 every day and during lunch time too (although I've since forgotten the lunch times). I think that is an amazing deal as that is when you'd want to go and have dinner!<br/><br/>The pizzas were not huge, which was obviously to be expected, however they weren't too small either. $4 was definitely a steal for one of these. They used gourmet, fresh ingredients. Out of the seven pizzas were ordered, ALL of them were delicious. My personal favourite being the Lamb one.<br/><br/>They didn't take too long to come out, and the service from the table was great. Our table was fairly cluttered with 7 pizzas on it, and she came back regularly to take away the dishes we were finished with.<br/><br/>The pizzas were made up of 6 average to small sized slices, and we ate around 8 or 9 slices each. Which was quite a decent amount of food really.<br/><br/>The other items on the menu did seem to be rather overpriced - I'm guessing to make up for the $4 pizza deal. A bowl of fries was $9 and although they looked delicious, you could definitely get the same thing for about $6 anywhere else.<br/><br/>Overall, I cannot believe this place is able to make a profit by selling their pizzas for $4. However, I'm totally not complaining. The service is great, the food is delicious and they have a good menu. The drinks are of a good decent size (I got a coke and raspberry - as it was a school night - and it was pretty huge and cost $4!). I would definitely 100% come back, and I'd recommend it.<br/><br/>The only downside was that where we chose to sit was beside a window which seemed to open out onto the outdoor area and it was a little bit breezy. So don't sit right beside the window and you will be fine!

Busy little pub with great service and great food! Ā $4 wood fired pizzas were great value ... we had a great time here and will probably be back again soon (we don't return to restaurants/bars often) which is a great positive for this place.<br/><br/>Our dishes were a little bit dirty which was a shame but the waiter replaced them ... very relaxed atmosphere ... classic kiwi pub feel.
Jaya
There's something about Freeman & Grey that makes is seem both cosy and lively. And it could get really packed and lively here. Their pizzas are great and cheap too. Great selection of drinks for a loud night out.
Stacey Jane Rainbow
Not much to dislike about this place really! Came one day with friends and was back the next with my partner! The $4 pizzas are spot on! Really yummy and such a great price! Loads of variety to pick from too! The lamb pizza was lovely and the mexican too! I had a steak sandwich aswell and the chips were really yum but the steak was pretty chewy and made it hard to eat in a sandwich! Good spot for a cheap lunch really! Be back again!

Low price but high quality. If the pizza getting bigger that will be better. And the side plate we have is prawn twister, nice and crispy, I like it.

Service: 8/10<br/>Food: 7/10<br/>Cleanliness: 6/10<br/>Value for money: 9/10 (lunch)<br/>Overall: 7.5/10<br/><br/>The lunch specials are quite good for the price.

We come here regularly for pizza and a glass of wine during the week. Such a good cheap dinner option when you're too late/can't be messed cooking. The pizza is so good, heaps of options including VG and super cheap. It's usually enough for dinner but we'll often get chips too. The staff are always so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is buzzing and vibrant, especially when there's live music. And they have VIP memberships which gives you wicked perks too. Definitely one of my favourite spots <br/>
Renee Arihia Mihaere
The atmosphere was amazing, the food was so quick and delicious ! Would definitely go back no hesitation!<br/>The staff were amazing and polite as well.<br/>I would say the music was abit loud and I felt like I had to yell across the table but it's so minor compared to all the great things I could say šŸ™ŒšŸ½<br/>Loved it !

I had been meaning to try this place for awhile & finally got the chance to on Tuesday. My friend and I were pleasantly surprised to have gone in at the time for $4 pizzas and they were delicious! The fries were also probably the best I've had in awhile. In regards to the service it was very friendly and welcoming :)
Annette Wong
My flatmate and I had been eagerly wanting to giv the $4 pizzas a go. We both ordered the Panacetta which was great. We were really impressed with the quality for the small price. The pizzas are thin based, very cheesy and presented on a nifty wooden tray <br/><br/>A definite "must go"<br/><br/>

Dropped in for a quick bite to eat during a week day to F&G, a relaxed but sophisticated pub on the Ponsonby road food scene.<br/><br/>Our orders were good and took little time to arrive and the service was great.<br/><br/>F&G make great pizzas and offer a substantial selection of pub food and a few healthy options.<br/><br/>I noted that there was a kids menu so bonus points here.<br/><br/>Rating out of 5 (5 being the highest):<br/>Food ā€“ 4<br/>Ambience ā€“ 3<br/>Presentation ā€“ 3<br/>Service ā€“ 4<br/>Environment ā€“ 3

Outstanding customer service, very friendly staff - had a lovely French waitress who indulged in telling us about how she loved New Zealand and the culture compared to her life in France. Sadly I think she clocked off before we could tip her; but would highly recommend having her wait your table as she's very informative about the menu too. <br/><br/>The venue is fairly big expanding to an upstairs level - not too sure if there's seating as I didn't go up myself but was advised that's where their toilets are. Each table is adorably decorated with different cities on a little sign. <br/><br/>We started with two sets of sliders for the boyfriend, his mum and myself. We also got the meatballs, chicken tacos, croquets and a cocktail and a pint of beer (water for me the sober driver) <br/><br/>These dishes were more like tapas style food and is actually quite filling. My top favourite was surprisingly the chicken taco!
Erica May Dean
Really loved this place! I have been here a couple of times, only ever trying there $4 pizzas. And boy, they were tasty! They may not be the most fulling pizza but at $4 a pop I could afford two :p I had my boyfriends birthday celebration here and we kept ordering pizzas and alcohol (mostly beer) everyone left on a good buzz and it was a great success. The staff were very helpful and friendly, service was quick and food was superb. <br/><br/>Thumbs up!

This is crazy value for money. Went to try it out for a drink but got peckish and the waitress, who was happy to show us through the menu pointed out the $4 pizza offer. We had seen another table receive pizzas but figured they looked too good to be the $4 ones. Nope.. They were. Tried one and it was excellent.. So good we got another. Seriously $8 and we were full. Love this place, will definitely return with a group for a weekend lunch.
ChloƩ Manihera
One of my favourite Friday night spots. They have a great pizza selection and often have a $4 pizza promotion during the afternoon which is great on a tight budget, good selection of drinks and I particularly enjoyed the feijoa crumble cocktail which I will definitely try to recreate at home
Two Dark Coffees
As a student it becomes second nature to keep your eyes peeled for the deals. <br/><br/>I'm not one to sacrifice quality for quantity believe me, but here at Freeman and Grey you get both! <br/><br/>Normally lying around the $12 mark, Freeman and Grey's pizza range is wide enough to suit most peoples likings. They have your classic meatlover and vegetarian equivalents covered and even options that may push your comfort zone. And if $12 wasn't good enough, if you rock up around lunch time or before 7:30pm, you only pay $4 for your pizza! Dominoes can't even compete with that pricing. So if you thought you couldn't hang out and eat out in Ponsonby on a budget, think again! <br/><br/>The service has always been pretty good - the staff are all really friendly!<br/><br/>Freeman and Grey loses a point just on the fact that occasionally the waiting time is a bit long. That being said, it's not that big of deal with good company and drinks are always delivered quickly. <br/><br/>For a good dessert option I would recommend the sticky date pudding!<br/><br/>Overall, I really like Freeman and Grey. The restaurant itself has a cool industrial and bar vibe. With live music playing some nights and a rugby game on a couple of the flat screens, Freeman and Grey offers a pretty neat place to bring the lads for a drink or two at the end of the week.

Not a good experience at all tonight. 6:30pm we arrived for dinner, and had to wait a long time for our order to be taken (15mins+). After 45 minutes we still hadn't received any food (pizza, fries etc).. We asked a waitress what was happening and she said she would check. Ten minutes later we had no news and had to ask someone else. Not good when you've been there an hour already and are starving! <br/>The waitress came back and said our order docket had been lost in the kitchen, behind a plate or something?! We felt like somebody should have noticed that we had no food, without us having to ask after it. Anyway, she said they were about to start cooking our meals. Great. After 8pm we finally received some food. Not good enough. We were ready to go home by now. And one of our dishes (prawns) just never turned up and nobody came to check on our food or anything. <br/>We caught the waitress on our way out and she apologised and said they were short staffed.. Still.. Over two hours after we arrived and we didn't even receive one of our dishes. I come here a lot and have never had issues, this was ridiculous to be honest. Not keen to come back or recommend. Very disappointing.

Tried this place with deal voucher. The customer service was excellent. The food portion is big and very reasonably priced. The food taste just a bit above average. But overall had good experience here.

Awesome Restaurant/Bar. Friendly welcoming staff. Awesome fun and happening atmosphere. Rugby/sport screen which is cool. Great food. Pizza awesome and very well priced. Beer batter fries YUM. Highly recommend.

I have dined in at Freeman and Grey and have mixed reviews for it. <br/><br/>For food, my partner and I ordered a platter and 2 tapas. Drinks were vodka/soda/lime and a Bloody Mary. The platter was mega. Initially the $50 outlay was a bit of a shock, but not when the food arrived. It was of decent quality and quanity. No complaints there at all. The tapas were average, nothing to write home about and not a reason to go back for.<br/><br/>When I ordered a Bloody Mary, I was told that they could not make it because they had run out of Tomato Juice. This is in spite of a supermarket being less than a km away and a dairy being open directly across the road. I would have been prepared to have waited for the juice, or at least given the option to wait, so this was disappointing.<br/><br/>On the toilet front, the floor was sticky and dirty. The cubicles were clean. <br/><br/>The service of the staff was friendly from the waitress but very casual and a bit 'too cool for school' from the bar staff.<br/><br/>The loyalty programme that Freeman run is also great, short term, but I have become very over receiving regular texts from them.<br/><br/>All in all, a sub-optimal experience.

Dined in at this establishment two weeks ago. The front of house staff were diligent and quick to attend to us. <br/><br/>We ordered a couple of the small plates. Some were very tasty. Others ( calamari ) may not have been at its freshest.<br/><br/>Beers on tap were reasonably priced.<br/><br/>Ordered the chicken pizza, which stated ingredients such as " sweet chilli- chicken- cream cheese- pinenuts- with a tomato base". But there was no cream cheese on our pizza. HeH.....<br/><br/>Overall a good night out for a dinner.<br/><br/>Would recommend

Went last night for first time, the place was busy but not packed with your typical Ponsonby crowd which was nice for a change. Pretty relaxed atmosphere for a beer. Didn't sample the mains menu but snacks where great. Stuffed mushrooms yum! Some of the tables next to us where dining and it looked pretty good. Little annoying that the toilet is upstairs but that's about the only negative! Definitely heading back soon.

We went here for our staff Christmas party. I felt the food was very reasonable and well prepared and came to us in a timely fashion. The staff were helpful and friendly for the most part and the location is top notch. Nice layout and decor and awesome balcony up top for hanging out and shooting the breeze. Great one for summer.
Ellie Miller
Cool venue that was really let down by the service. There were quite a few staff on but we had to stand at the bar for a good ten minutes before anyone acknowledged us; I totally get that you might be busy, but a smile and an ā€œIā€™ll be with you in a minuteā€ wouldn't go astray so we knew you weren't just blatantly ignoring us. We went on a Wednesday night, was pretty quiet and managed to get a seat down the front by the footpath, ideal for a yarn and some people watching. Didn't have any food but they had a reasonable range of Macā€™s; not too much on the cider front though but tried the new Ginger Brew, pretty good.<br/>I guess it was only one visit, might have caught them on a bad night so will go back for sure.

Freeman and Grey is right now the best place to eat lunch in ponsonby.... They are having so many cheap lunch deals that can get one to think a lot on what you eat.... They have more than 10 options to select from their $4 lunch pizzas.. Who provides such deals now a days...
