Review Little India - Auckland Central

The service was top notch! I was seated and served within minutes of arriving. There is a muted atmosphere inside without all the garish and typical Indian decorations. The food was fine. I was just craving an aloo paratha, but decided to order a kulcha as well. It was piping hot and quite good.

Visited the restaurant today and totally satisfied with the food and service. Requested one curry to cook on high flame and make it smoky and they literally done it very well. Worth visiting and highly recommend. Thank you.

Best India restaurant in Auckland! Service was very nice. And friendly staff helped us choose the meal. Platter and curry were awesome and very delicious. We did enjoy the time with yum meals. We will come back here again. Highly recommend. :)

The flavors are absolutely amazing here! I ordered their customer's favorite curry and my partner had the Korma. Both full of flavor and fresh ingredients. We are both looking forward to our next visit so we can try more of the tempting dishes! Entrees we had samosas and pakoras both tasted authentic and not drenched in oil like other places, fresh and crisp. Finally to top it off the customer service was friendly, well timed and made a good effort to check up on us :) Sweet you guys soon!!

Went there for Family dinner, everything was great but atmosphere was little dull and sittings were little uncomfortable.. but food was good!! Can say try their Butter Chicken.👌🏼

Great service and friendly staff and the food was great.

Great customer service, very friendly. Amazing food. Go all out and get garlic naans, mango lassie, puppadoms, raiita and Chilli chutney, but be warned the Chilli chutney is rock fuel and don't do what my partner did and eat half a teaspoon at once, I tried to warn her. I dance around the kitchen with the heat, was great! You've been warned 🌶😎
PATU PRINCESS
Exceptional food and service. Wouldn’t have changed anything about the food or the overall experience. Definitely the best Mango Lassi in the west! Thank-you we look forward to dining with you again.

Being a Pom it is always difficult to find a good curry house in Nz. This one is right up there. Great menu and all cooked to order. Staff and service excellent. I highly recommend. Can’t fault tandoori Chicken or even the mushroom version. Dopiaza and Jalfrezi my favourites and the great Vindaloo and madras.

"I recently had the pleasure of dining at Little India Restaurant in Glen Eden and I must say, it was a wonderful experience. The food was simply delicious - every dish we ordered was bursting with authentic Indian flavors and spices. However, what really made the evening special was the exceptional service provided by Bobby and his team. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversation. Bobby's knowledge of the menu was impressive, and he was happy to make recommendations based on our preferences. Throughout the meal, our glasses were never empty and our plates were cleared promptly. The staff seemed genuinely invested in ensuring that we had a great experience, and we certainly did. I highly recommend Little India Restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Indian cuisine and fantastic service. Thank you, Bobby and your great team, for making our night out a memorable one."

Amazing from the start. I was greeted so warmly by a lovely gentleman, who's customer service was excellent. I ordered a beer while waiting for my food and got some complimentary popadums. The smells coming from the kitchen got my attention and mouth watering 😋 The food was hot fresh and delicious. Definitely be coming back. Thank you guys so much. I ordered the lamb korma curry so good 👍 Highly recommend little India 🇮🇳 👌

Ambience : 10/10
Service : 10/10
Food : 7/10
Must try Murg Madrasi and Aloo Saagwala.

Pretty average Indian food and the price you pay is ridiculous compared to the quality and size of food. Probably won’t be back based on that.

Had dinner at Little India in Glen Eden (birthday treat for me by family). We ordered heaps. Couldn't eat it all. Superb food. We asked to take away the leftovers, said it was too good to waste. Not a problem. The owner knew to nurture good customers who will come back is worth the little extra in providing boxes. And, after all, they do cater for takeaway meals.

I will be coming back as I see it does thalis. For an ex-pat Sri Lankan, these are comprehensive meals of rice, and a variety of curries. It's how we expect a meal to be.

Amazing food, service and ambience. I have no idea why its taken me so long to discover Little India. Ordered Tandoori chicken, onion bhaji, chicken kadai, lamb jhalfrezee and Aaloo Baingin. Best indian food i’ve had in awhile and the owners really looked after us and made our dining experience extra special. Will be returning.

We had a celebration with around 30 people and most people came up to me that the food was amazing. Everything was fresh and made from scratch! Very impressed! A bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for.

Fantastic food and a pleasant service is a great combination of success. This restaurant has been our favourite for quite some time. The consistency has been amazing. well done guys.

Came here for the first time tonight, got recommended by a work mate. Amazing food and the best service, everyone was so nice and cheerful especially deep our server, would recommend 100%. Will be back the next time I’m craving Indian food.

Staff are very welcoming and kind, the restaurant has very dark mood lighting. Good bar. The tandoori share platter was very tasty. Different types of chicken and lamb with a mint yoghurt sauce. I had the buttered chicken mild, it was probably too mild next time I will level up on the spice. Naan was light and delicious a must, to dip in any curry sauce. Will be back again.

Always great experience. Delicious Food and great Service from the Manager & Staff.
Loved it.
Tried prawn & Tandoori Platter.
bhuna Chicken & Lamb Jhalfrezi
Everything was superb.

Had takeaway again last night and have yet to be disappointed. The Tandori for two is great as well as the butter chicken and saagwala. A lot better than the little India in town

First of all the store is kept soo tidy and clean, very contemporary in terms to design. Have tried nearly all things in the restaurant and been here few occasions one which was a private booking. The orders are always taken and then updated regularly on how long it will take to come. Prices are alright. Food itself is great, not oily like most other Indian outlets. Enjoyed eating and coming at night the store has a nice dim lot atmosphere which really adds to a great experience. Really like the staff, they take into consideration your spice requirements and they understand customer requirements. Will be back for sure.

No doubt the food is good but expansive and the serving size is really small compared to the prices and nothing could be smaller than the size of the serving dish. The service is good and the staff is friendly.

Just had my food delivered! Yum! Since moving here four years ago I have struggled to find a decent curry in west Auckland. These guys have fantastic food in comparison to most. Loved that not all the curries had sugar added to hide the authentic Indian spices and heat! Thank you guys.

I have eaten here many times and it is always a mile ahead of other Indian restaurants and somehow this time was even better again. The restaurants ambiance is nice enough but the food is exceptional. It is worth going out of your way to try this jem of Glen Eden.

These guys are hopeless. we have been visiting this restaurant multiple times and the food was ok. we ordered a chicken tikka masala and Shai Paneer. They cooked both the curries in the same gravy and gave it to us. Both the curries tasted like butter chicken and when we rang the restaurant the guys told us that he can't do anything about it. If you are planning to do any take away this is a must ignore place. This is definitely not what they preach and show on their website (rubbish). I had high regards from them but very disappointed.
Holly Shaw-Fowles
Brilliant little Indian Place in the middle of Glen Eden. I think the prices are a tad high but the service is fantastic and the food has always been top notch. If you're in a hurry I wouldn't recommend as the wait time can be long but if you're on a night out it is simply perfect for catching up with old friends. I recommended the butter chicken, samosa, Garlic naan and Mango Lassi drink.

A group of us came to Little India on a rainy Thursday night. The restaurant looks great and we would have loved to have sat in the awesome circular booth seating but there was just a few too many of us.

We ordered a range of dishes. The dal makhani and mango chicken were standouts. I had the tandoori chicken with the chicken brought to the table still cooking in a mini "oven/tandoor" with the chicken on skewers. It looked amazing.

Little India have paid attention to the look and feel of the place, and the food matches up too. A great option in Glen Eden!

Had Takeaways from here delivered to the house, because we were in the area delivery only cost $4! It was for about 14 guests and we got a few curries and rice and each dish was delicious! And not to mention tasted fresh. We even had leftovers the next day. Can't go wrong. Will definitely order from here for a night in again soon and I would highly recommend this. We got chicken, lamb and the chicken saag particularly was yum and also had a flavoursome seafood bryani!
Geokie
Was charged a delivery fee on an order over $40 and only a 5 minute drive away. We were told 45 minutes to an hour and that was accurate.
The food itself was quite spicy, so heads up to those who fear the spice a little. Lots of chicken in both dishes and it was cooked well. The sauces could have been reduced a little as it was a bit watery but the flavors were all there.
An average score from me. Tasted ok but I wouldn't write home about it

This place is a must try ! Their kadhai chicken and prawn malabari is finger licking good. By far my favourite Indian restaurant. Don't forget to try their cheese naan too ❤️
Ridad
Really good authentic indian food. We went as part of a large group and tried many different dishes. All the kebab dishes are amazing and you can order them as mains. The Boti and Baara kebab were amazing. Will definitely be going back.

The food is excellent, good variety. Dining experience was really good too and great service. Only letdown was the time taken to bring the order in, other than that though great stuff.

We called a takeaway from Little India this weekend. Took a long time to get hold of them because they were super busy (good sign in my books).

We got a lamb pasanda, chicken kadai and a prawn malabari. We ordered them mild-medium. All of the meals were different, the kadai is quite dry curry full of flavour, and the prawn was great a perfect curry for prawns. Great portions full of meat, and rich flavours.

I would go again in a heart beat.

Very friendly helpful staff and delicious crunchy naan breads. Curries weren't quite what I expected but not bad...only the chicken tikka masala reminded me of butter chicken as it was so creamy and the lamb madras tasted a lot like roganjosh. They tasted pretty nice, however prices were very steep for an average Indian restaurant I must say. Was happy with the experience but probably won't be back in a huge hurry.

Probably the only descent Indian restaurant in this part of Auckland. But I can imagine this restaurant must be a very popular place. I went during noon for lunch and few tables were occupied. It took a while for someone to notice that I entered the restaurant. There after the service was good.
I ordered lamb batura and lasso from the lunch menu. The lassie was brought in less than 2 minutes which makes me think it was pre-prepared and refrigerated. But that's what most of the Indian restaurants do.
Batura was good. The lamb did lack some flavour.
But overall it was a good meal and might be back for more.
Verdict : Needs to be more customer friendly and focused.
Must try : not sure

Firstly i have to say that little india is just simply amazing!

walking in, the ambience was perfect for me and my partner. perfect amount of lighting and being able to look at the chefs while they're cooking i thought was a great idea to let customers interact with them.

also when i went little india was promoting a new special were you sign up as a member and receive a $20 voucher when you spend $60+ which was great because when your eating 3 courses, prices add up vey quick!

Before we ordered the waiter offered us some popadoms for free, and already had a jug of water to offer us. he was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

i had ordered the tikka platter for two, 1 lamb rogan josh and 1 butter chicken and two soft drinks.
the flavours here for all meals just blew me away!! the freshness of the herbs sprinkled on top just makes all your senses come alive. the tenderness of the meat showed the meals were cooked to perfection. and the aromas i will never forget.

absolutely amazing place to come for a first date if indian cuisine is a favourite.
also highly recommend everyone to at least try something other than butter chicken. although it is very yum try the other dishes there :)

awesome stuff Little India!!
valued customer right here :)

I'm sorry people didn't like this place because I think it's fine. For' Curry Friday' this is my first choice. Have eaten in and out and enjoyed both
I have to say that butter chicken probably isn't the best way to judge a curry house. The lamb pasanda is great as is the prawn malabari
The variety of starters is good as is the quantity.
Is this fine dining ? No. Is this a perfectly fine local curry house? Yes it is. Use your local restaurants or one day when you want them they won't be there.

not the place to go, over priced and felt like I was eating tasteless butter chicken maybe because I am used to a certain store. went with a mate and each got butter chicken but we're only served one bowl of rice, tried to ask where is the other and simply said they put it in one.. if I went alone do I just get half a bowl of rice?

Dined alone there last night, after a full on day, was looking a for a tasty quick dinner. Ordered a dish that sounded great, with pumpkin, spices etc and lamb.

What arrived was a tasteless stew. There was a ring of carrot, nothing else discernible, it was like a boring Nana's dinner.

Service was friendly, rice and roti were fine, but that's about it.

Not many patrons, pity because Glen Eden needs a lift. I certainly won't return.

We booked a table for 3 for 7pm. We ordered the $25 mixed platter as a starter and our three mains. The starter arrived promptly and it was very tasty. We then waited 1 hour for our mains. We were seated in the center of the restaurant right across from the main staff desk and kitchen area. We sat there and watched patrons who arrived much later than us get served their mains. We finally got the attention of a lovely waitress who advised our mains will be ready in 2 mins...... 20 mins later our mains arrived. Suffice to say they clearly forgot about us. The mains were tasty, but the wait spoiled the experience.

Food is very good from my experience for over 5 visits.
Service is good and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere.
Pricing is somewhat of a let down, especially when taking into account other places in the area.
Would recommend

Decent, but not fantastic Indian food.

We have dined in and ordered delivery. I think consistency is the major issue with this outfit. The curries tend to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes really good, sometimes average.

The staff are friendly and the delivery man is always polite and courteous.

Due to the convenience factor, we'll keep ordering from these guys. You can't beat home delivery on a lazy evening.

Awesome food and great, attentive service. I had lunch here earlier and it was some of the yummiest food I have eaten outside of India. I had the bhuna ghosht and my friend had the Vindaloo which he assured me was really good too. Highly recommended.

My family love indian food and Little India is the very best we've found. The curries are fresh and their ability to guage the heat you need is excellent. You can't compare the prices or curries to the generic restaurants that apply the same gravy over different meats. The Korma and Achurri dishes are sublime. The restaurant itself is well designed and welcoming. We had a party of 12 there on saturday night and the guys couldn't do enough for us. They gave us the big upstairs table, let us decorate, bring a cake etc. We started with drinks in the bar and ended with a feast that everyone loved. We will keep coming back.

I've read the other reviews on Little India and think the others might either be a little harsh, or the place has seriously gone downhill since I went there in June 2013.
The prices are not extremely high, nor very cheap, but I think reasonable and on par with other Indian restaurants I have been to.
The food was not overly slow in coming out. The waiter was very friendly, and bought our drinks out quickly.
The food itself was fine, nothing to rave about, but I wouldn't consider complaining either. My son had the butter chicken. It tasted different to the stuff you get in food courts, and other Indian restaurants (it was less creamy) but it was fine all the same.
I would take my family back there. Maybe I struck them on a good night!

One of the best Indian restaurants around. I have been here on at least 3 occasions and the food has consistently been great and the service excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves well cooked tasty Indian food.
Lucy
The food was average, not that tasty and on the expensive side, will not return.
Nilesh Prasad
The food is bit cold when served and also bit expensive. Will not go again.

We have dined in every Indian restaurant in a 5km radius from home, this is the most expensive and the worst be far! My partners, Mum's samosa was cold, my onion bhaji tasted like it was re heated, my butter chicken was over cooked and not succulent at all and my garlic narn bread was terrible! The waitress tried hard but her product knowledge was not to good.

Also my partner wanted her meal in a doggy bag and they forgot to give it to her, we were to tied up complaining when we left to remember to ask where the meal was!

Big name, big disappointment!

Hamish

After making reservations at Athidi, Parnell & finding place had closed down we drove from Parnell to Glen Eden to Little India. With no booking, place packed, two hungry boys and being fathers day we didn't think we would get a table. I couldn't thank the staff at Little India for coming to the rescue and making the impossible possible and us getting a booking. The service was excellent, staff friendly and the food, well I can say its the best Indian I've had in a long time. Thank you Little India for not disappointing two young boys to a meal with there dad on Father's Day. Would recommend a visit to this restaurant and try the lovely food and the excellent service. Thank you again Little India.

Went in here for takeaways on Saturday night. When they said it would take approximately 30-40 mins to cook one meal, when the restaurant was only half full, we were straight out the door.

It took quite a few minutes before we were served. The waiter could not understand me well and I had to keep repeating what I was saying (I'm a native Kiwi).

They did not tell us until the very end of our order how long it would take. Who waits 40 minutes for Indian takeaway?
Rishi Gangotra
Well, to begin with in simple words is to say that I am just loving it. Started as going out in bits to going out a lot to Little India, Glen Eden is enough to say that the meal, service, location, friendly but professional staff and quality is what makes it happen.
Priyanka
Little India is a really decent restaurant I have been to. It's really quiet it's seems hardly anyone is there. I brought butter chicken and it was nice it wasn't watery or bland it had a little taste but did not taste like the typical indian butter chicken. Staff really nice there and food good so an average for overall hope the restaurant improves a little more hope it attracts more customers. :)

Same old...Same old Indian menu with no authentic feel. The ambiance and service is good. Hard to find people dining around on weekdays.
