Review De Post Belgian Beer Cafe - Auckland Central

Been here a few time whenever we've been in the area. Always a good time! We were here on the Friday, just before peak times so service was pretty good and food came out quick! Can't complain too much about the food and drinks! (Steak and nachos have never disappointed) a little pricy, but worth it for a good time! Plenty of seating upstairs, and nice seats outside in the sun!

Burger night, absolutely fabulous! The bar could use a good cleaning, men's washroom toilet almost off its moorings. The ceiling discoloration is concerning. Guess there's no public health officer in Auckland? So hit the outdoor patio.

Located in the middle of Mount Eden Village this little restaurant had a quiet patio with umbrellas for relaxing outside with a beer. They had 6 Belgian variety beers on tap and available flights or full pints. The staff were courteous and prompt. There was no street noise.

Great food, brilliant service. They do daily specials makes it very attractive to family.

It's a tradition to eat out with family on ones Birhday. I wanted a pub family meal for my 51st birthday. Mussels. My brother in law booked and I think he said he had to pay I deposit. We had a beautiful waitress and I said my nephew (13) said she's soooo beautiful - he went all shades of red... So hilarious!!!

Stopped by for a birthday dinner/drink. There are two levels and the second level was quite nice, particularly out on the balcony. They serve a wide range of beers and other drinks. I grabbed a tasting tray to taste the 6 tap Belgian beers they had for $35. I also grabbed the meatballs and had some of the mussels with the white wine and garlic to share. The meatballs were quite good. The mussel flavouring was a little drizzle over the top so it didn't permate the entire batch so it mostly tasted of the onion and celery stock they were made in. The calamari was also quite nice. IT is a nice pub to grab some food and drinks. They do have a special for each night (mussels on Mondays) so you can see whats on before heading down.

Came here on Monday evening for dinner, had reservation before but the place is already packed when we arrived. Half price mussels on Mondays but needed to order a drink for it to work. Belgian white beer tastes nice. The burger was okay, not particularly great, but the mussels are very nice, and they cleaned it better than their other shop Mission Bay. Great night out with friends, highly recommended šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘ Ps. Night time is easy to find street parking.

Great place to spend time with friends and family. We had the Tuesday special which was steak and fries and excellent value for money. The atmosphere is cosy and authentic, The staff was very friendly and food was delivered swiftly. The fries were delicious, the salad dressing yum, the steak was flavourful but chewy, and the mushroom sauce was creamy and scrumptious. They have a special on every weeknight, and Iā€™ll definitely be going back to try out more! There are rooms for hire, but we didnā€™t check it out. If the downstairs decor is anything to go by, Iā€™d say itā€™s worth considering. Coming from the Netherlands, this place felt like a lovely slice of home, with the BEST Mayo!

Second time visiting here and the food is still amazing. The best cooked steak I've had in ages. My daughter had the pie and mash and we shared the sticky date pudding. Soooooo yummy. šŸ˜‹ Tasty cocktails too!

Just dropped in for 1kg of fresh mussel pot with celery stock which also comes with some fries for only $22 for two. If your after a real bargain they have specials through the week with mussel pots at half price on a Monday.

We happen to be visiting Mt Eden on a Monday and walked by De Post's sign for 1/2 price Mussel Mondays. We didn't think twice about it and quickly found ourselves sitting down with a bunch of locals. We ordered 1kg of mussels each (moules frites actually) and enjoyed every bite of them. My husband had added the curry flavor and I added the white wine and garlic flavor.

Got a new deck setup that makes it more than perfect!! And Julie has the best customer service ever!

A fantastic place to visit for a bite to eat, a sneaky beer or two, or even a full on meal. The entire menu mixed with the daily specials make decision time a bit difficult because everything basically begs you to choose it via mouthwatering descriptions. The staff are awesome and make sure that everything is to your liking, and the building itself is 2 level with seating and toilet facilities on either floor and nostalgic decor. Always a pleasure coming here with family and friends :) Definitely recommend the Coq A La Biere.

Walked in on a Thursday which was their rib special night. Such good value for money! The ribs, chips and slaw were all so yum! Massive portions. I had a sangria which was really nice too. Love their range of beers. We also ordered a dessert each, when one would've been enough since they are so large. Love how fluffy the dessert waffle was. The brownie is very decadent. Service was attentive and it has a very cute atmosphere.

Food was great fish burger with chips very filling and tastes delicious. Staff was exceptional very friendly and had a good sense of humor. environment was lovely, good music and lighting had a great time! Edit:also everything arrived very quickly

Great place for a beer and a pub meal. I ordered bangers and mash. It was ok but the sausage was more like Kabana than a traditional beef sausage.

Loved it!! Had a great evening and Kyla was our Gorgeous server. She added light and sparkle to the evening and it is so important to appreciate good people! Also Ethan took care of us at the end and he was very efficient and professional. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Highly recommended and has a corner for almost any type of patron xxxxxxxxxxx Big ups

I have been going to De Post for over 15 years, I have to say this is the worse food I have ever had. Steak over cooked, potatoes were dry, for the upmarket prices charged I would have thought the food would be perfect, staff didn't care, 'oh I'm sorry' but no resolution, I don't often complain but honestly I could have gone to somewhere like McDonalds and had a better cooked meal šŸ˜•

Went for dinner on a Monday night for my partners birthday and was absolutely blown away by the service as well as the food from that night! They were even able to provide a birthday cake and had a couple of workers singing 'happy birthday' to my partner. Everything I asked for, I received and LOVED every second there! Thank you so much for your hospitality and for the experience! I will definitely recommend you to family and friends.

Disappointed in service and food. Staff not interactive didnt ask how meal was gave fries instead of mash with steak.rhe mussels were overcooked hoping maybe it was due to end of a saturday night we ate at 8.30. Had to ask waitress to come and clear our plates. We got excited about desert but let done there also ..the smallest portion of icecream with the yumy sticky toffee pudding. Water all on the outside floor of mens toilet upstairs. Other people next to us were not happy either.won't recommend

Lovely location and brilliant staff- burger was rather dry but am relatable informed that they are usually lovely. I will happily return

Great place to be if you like strong Belgium beer. Not too shabby if you don't as other normal beers offered. Food was great, beef and ale pie was fantastic. Recommend if in the Mt Eden area.
Kelly Heppleston
Always a good experience at the De Post Mt Eden. The food is good but I wish chefs would use cumin not coriander in their nacho beef. Coriander should only be used in the salsa but parsley is better. Other than that small authentic Mexican tip, everything else is awesome. Will be back again and again.
Leanne Vuletich
This place totally awesome, great waitress, friendly staff. Food delicious!! We will be back
Litia Brighouse
The worst service ever! Our waitress got our order wrong 5 times, kept forgetting orders then rolling her eyes when she had to take something back or go correct the order with the bar or kitchen. They forgot my order, brought out something that was missing some key ingredients on the menu after everyone else at our table had eaten. I ended up cancelling because it wasn't worth the wait. Basically if you don't order the mussels don't bother ordering anything else on the menu because that's all the chef knows how to cook. Disappointing first visit as had heard some good things prior. Never going back and wouldn't recommend to anyone. ļæ½

The staff are very attentive and super friendly ensuring that you are well looked after and happy with everything. Had the Sunday roast which consisted of roast beef, pumpkin, roast potato, kumara, broccoli, cauliflower, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The vegetables were either overcooked (cauliflower and pumpkin) or undercooked (kumara, potato, broccoli). The meat was tasty and a generous portion.
Pig Cat
A popular bar on Mt Eden Road. Very quaint decor, always fully-seated and noisy place. I crave for their mussel pots all the time, especially the thai coconut flavor. Have tried their steak with mushroom sauce and pork ribs as well. Also recommended. They never disappointed us. <br/>Staffs are always sooooooo busy that they might forget about our existence sometimes which I can understand.

Havenā€™t been in a LONG time but I have so many memories here. Food is delicious and I love the portions. Definitely going back soon! Just moved to East side and was out south hence not being able to go as often as I used to. You definitely need to try the muscle post šŸ¤¤

Neat and clean place, 4/5 for the taste, 4/5 for the service, 4/5 for the price. Overall 4/5. Good place for a bites. Check out the weekdays offer. Try out the mussels tasting pot. Good place for groups.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Cheers.

I had the chicken burger that was on special that night for $15. The burger came with fries and it was an amazing value for what you pay for. The burger itself was one of the nicest burgers I've had. Their drinks were also nice and affordable as well. The service was pleasing, I sat down outside which was right next to the road which got a bit loud, but that's not anyone's fault. Overall I was very satisfied with the experience and will be coming back!

Nice place for an evening drunk since it wasn't busy so there were many tables available. Lots of different beers on tap which was nice. They had a similar range to the one in Mission Bay. I didn't have food but a friend had the mussels and it looked quite good.

Came here on a weekday, not too busy. The ambiance is abit old but the food and service pretty good. Price reasonable and generous portion. We really enjoyed our steak and seafood chowder.

Every time I go there the staff is super friendly and best service. Best chicken wings and love the cheesy fries! The live music is a great start to the weekend.

Went there on Saturday night, the bar was quite busy but upstairs was not. We were a group of eight, another table had around the same number of people. They got their meals around five minutes after we arrived. We ordered drinks first, only three out of eight arrived almost straight away. We ordered our food along with the drinks. Five people got their dishes not long after. Then turned out that the dish one of us ordered from their special St. Patrick's menu wasn't available, so the person had to change to another dish from usual menu. His meal arrived not long after he ordered. Two other dishes and the rest of the drinks were still not there. Stuff had to be reminded twice about it. After that the drinks arrived at last, but two remaining dishes still didn't. After waiting for a bit over than hour and a half two people from the group were fed up with waiting, they cancelled their order and went to get the meal at another place just down the road. The stuff was also asked to bring additional mayo for the chips which she must've successfully forgotten about by the time she got downstairs. Wow, it was my first time there, not a nice experience, won't recommend to any of my friends.

Mussel was always good. I like the greencurry flavour. Balck Beer was soooo good. And non alcohol drink was tasty ok. Service nice and friendly

Ok what do i say, love the place. I am a regular here. I come here every week for couple of Hoegaardens and finger food and I love this place. I just wish they would clean the beer glasses a bit more. It always feels they are dirty. Hence the 3 else I would have rated this place a 5. I hope the management sees this and fixes the cleanliness issue.

Service was great.<br/>Ā Food was OK. Quantity was very good.<br/>Ā Will likely be back and try something else on the menu. <br/>Ā Oh! I need to make my review longer to meet the 140 characters this site requires.<br/>Ā I think that that should do it.

Wouldnā€™t recommend this place, particularly if you have any dietary requirements. My mum had a poor experience here with the service and chewy mussels. I wrote to the company privately about her experience but still havenā€™t received any response more than a week later, hence the now public review. Poor service.

Iā€™m a big big big fan of mussels and this is one of my must go places for mussels. I love the ambience that this place offers, plus thumbs up for the great and friendly service too! šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘šŸ»

Had my 21st here and it was perfect! The venue was so perfect! I hired the top floor which had 2 rooms which worked so well. The staff were all really lovely, we were able to decorate prior to the party with whatever we wanted. The food was really good and it was so cool that the staff walked around with it. Overall it was a really good experience and if you are looking for a venue for a function then definitely check this place out!!!
Dragon88
I do like it here and on many occasions I've had the mussels and been impressed. However this time, many of the mussels had broken shells and they were so small. On the upside the cheese board was really good although could've used more bread. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive.
Edwin Gu
Food there was very nice. Similar to De Fontein located in Mission Bay, but menu is a little not different. Their mussels are big portion, which is great but seafood chowder is more expensive. Overall, quality and quantity I get is worth my money.<br/><br/>Service is always very nice. Friendly staff and nice environment located in Mt Eden Village, a good place to go for lunch.
Kirsten
Friendly staff and delicious food! I ordered the bangers and mash, and oh my-the sausages were cooked well, the creamy mash was amazing with the sauce/gravy. I tried the wedges from the steak, so crispy! My friend ordered the half kilo ribs, mussels and the buffalo wings! For drinks: the Hot Toddy, Negroni and Beer! I'll be back!
Zac
Great place for dinner and drinks! Like the daily specials they have! Friendly staff and great food! Highly recommend this place so if in mt eden give this place a try! They do really good mussels!!

3.5/5 Taste<br/>4/5 Display <br/>4/5 Quantity <br/>3.5/5 Customer Service <br/><br/>Monday Mussel always good!<br/><br/>Nice bar, restaurant in Mt Eden. Have daily specials and Monday special for half price mussel has always been popular. They have franchaise all across Auckland and I believe Mt Eden branch is the best.<br/>

Toilets were absolutely disgusting, complained to bar staff, No hand drying, strong smell of urine. Finally was cleaned but still no where to dry your hands. Food and service was less than average. Will never return. DISGUSTING.

Good pub grub and spot for group lunch<br/>Nice spot for a large group we had last Sunday for lunch. There are a good few options and a Sunday $15 burger deal we all liked. The servings are super generous for the options. Most people had the burgers and some pasta which they all enjoyed.however I have a fairy intolerance so could really only have the salad which wasn't as good at all as the meat was salty and it just wasn't as large a portion as the other options. There are plenty of beers as options also however I found them a little pricey for the non local options. Would pop in again for pub grub and friendly staff<br/>

De Post is a massive building I had to drive past every day to get to uni. The first time I went I got the fries and a mocktail! The fries were amazing definitely one of my favourite fries spots! The second time we went there we got nachos and bbq buffalo wings the wings were actual trash like how do you mess up wings like that.... full on disrespecting chicken like that, never again lol but the nachos are as good as the wings were bad! Delicious! <br/><br/>Thereā€™s a nice seating area up stairs with a cute balcony where we got to catch the sunset on! If only they had shisha/hookah!

Beer is great, food is awful. <br/><br/>We ordered fries, wings, wedges, cheese bread, waffles and brownies. <br/><br/>The food took 45 minutes to arrive, the fries were soggy and luke warm and they forgot the mayo, which didnā€™t turn up even when we asked for it. The waffles were poor and seemed to be sprinkled with bar nuts. The brownie was rock solid and disappointing, and the wings and bread were just ok. <br/><br/>All in all I wouldnā€™t bother eating here. There are so many better options close by. Just fill up elsewhere and come for the beer.
Jessica Thomson
Went here with some friends expecting a good meal that would fill us up. I got the salt and pepper squid which was undercooked and soggy. The salad it came on looked like it had been put through a shredder and thrown onto the plate. My partner and his friend both got burgers for around/over $20 which was as big as a McDonald's cheeseburger and was as filling as one. Not only that but the food also took 45mins to come out with no apology from the waitress who served us. We gave up and decided to go somewhere else for dessert that wouldn't take so long.

Toilet on lower floor was filthy on New Year Day (afternoon). Appeared to have not been cleaned for several days. Floor was saturated in urine, hand basin was filthy, and toilet bowl was beyond filthy. Very disrespectful of you De Post to subject your paying customers to third world standards of hygiene in trendy Mt Eden. And to think you serve food on the same premises...disgusting :(
Diogo Reck
Usually I think those European pubs are good for drinks (beer) only than for food, but I was actually positively surprised at De Post.<br/><br/>Food wasn't amazing, but way better than they usually are. The lamb and the beef were yummy and both had a beautiful sauce.<br/><br/>Service was good and friendly.
Anna
Lunchtime here seems specifically design to make you drink....issue is if your driving this is not a place to go. Waited an hour for a Burger and Salad...both were totally overpriced ...ooh and got asked 3 times if we wanted more beer. Not a foody place at all.
I'm A Foodie
My partner and I came here for steak special day. We ordered an extra large cup of Hoegaarden, wow...it's really large. And also had 1/2 dozen buffalo wings, 1 kilo garlic, celery &lemon mussel and steak with mushroom sauce which is really tasty.

Aunt and I went to De Post in Mt Eden on Monday... ground floor was busy, so was suggested to find a seat on 2nd floor.<br/>Looked around for seats, ā€˜deckā€™ area had 3 tables already so decided to sit ā€˜indoorā€™ instead by the floor/ceiling opening instead.<br/><br/>Sat down and ordered 2 mocktails, a 1kg pot of mussels and their sausage main (Bangers & Mash - sausage, mash, and caramelised onion relish).<br/><br/>After 10mins, was told they were too busy today and cannot make cocktails, and was asked if weā€™d like to order something else instead. <br/>Thatā€™s fine, and we preferred to stick with water in that case.<br/><br/>40mins after placing the order, no food arrived yet and we asked for the waitress to check, was assured order was placed and food wonā€™t be long and that unfortunately it was super busy that day downstairs. <br/><br/>Another 20 mins later (so 1hr total)...still no food! <br/>Didnā€™t bother wasting more time so we left.<br/><br/>They were basic dishes, regardless of how busy it was, it canā€™t have taken 1hr to cook..! <br/> <br/>As we left, ground floor LOOKED about 40% full. <br/>We talked to the gentleman at the cashier, told him we waited one hour yet no food so we are leaving. <br/><br/>Donā€™t think he was too happy with us leaving... <br/>Dude, you made us wait for ONE HOUR for something you had a special on that day of the week...every single week!! <br/><br/>He then told us the waiter/waitress should have told us there was an hour wait, there was a room with a big table...<br/><br/>Went to another place a few steps away instead, they looked to be 85% full, ordered much more complicated dishes...food arrived in 20mins. <br/><br/>A quick look up on google for their reviews showed there had been at least 2 other incidents where people waited 1.5hrs and 2 hrs for their food about a week ago...<br/><br/>Iā€™m sure not everyone had this experience and if you got to eat their food, Iā€™m sure it would be quite good...looked and smelt nice...Mission bay branch was good.<br/>but sheesh, that attitude and the wait at this one is destroying the brandā€™s reputation.<br/><br/>Maybe it is the silly season and they are short of kitchen staff... management issues??<br/><br/>And needless to say I will not be coming to this De Post again any time soon.<br/><br/>Didnā€™t give them a 1 because I didnā€™t try their food and contradictory to what the cashier person was implying...I found the waitress quite friendly and with a much better attitude.

I ordered a cider. I was given sparkling apple juice. My friend ordered the Mac & Cheese Balls. 20 minutes later we were informed that they didnā€™t have any Mac & Cheese Balls. Someone then came to take our order for something else to eat 15 minutes later. She ordered onion rings, then I got bored so we cancelled the order and left.

My favourite restaurant in Mt Eden. Wine and beer are only $6 and $5 at happy hour. Every weekday they offer promotion item. Worth to come. Servers are great and make you like at friend's home. Highly recommended!

The ribs were pretty good. Lamb shank was extremely soft and succulent. Was a pretty good deal with the coupon. Would definitely recommend to come for some beer.

The food quality and tastes was awesome, nice presentation and service was excellent. <br/><br/>Seafood platter was fantastic, it was also served with bread, the platter had very generous amount to feed 2 people and it was very filling.<br/><br/>Ā The seafood platter had musselā€™s cooked 4 ways, calamari, smoked raw salmon, cajun fish, prawn cutlets, local breads and relish. <br/><br/>Good range of beer and we particularly ordered the on tap cider.<br/><br/>The platter however was reasonably priced.<br/><br/>Would recommend a visit try the Seafood Platter!!

My partner and I decided to pop in for dinner on a Tuesday. Place wasn't very busy, tables free everywhere. Service was, well not there. To get served I approached the bar to place order and get some water for the table (after sitting for awhile).<br/><br/>Dinner took around 35 minutes to come (ordered the nights special ribs and mussels). The waitress said when we questioned it that there were two massive orders before ours (only two plates left the kitchen before us).<br/><br/>Partner liked the ribs, the mussels were not edible, they tasted like they had been sitting for sometime before being served.<br/><br/>What has made me give 3 stars is the fact that the lady at the end apologised and didn't charge for the mussels. The night was a shame as I had high expectations for this place (love Belgian bars and food). Not sure if I will go back or not (probably verging on not, the Belgian bar in mission bay is better - and that's saying a lot because it's not that great). Good luck if you eat there, I hope your food and service is better than mine).

This was such an amazing night to eat here! We came last night for their 'mussel mania'!<br/>Great taste - especially the chef's special platter. There was so much to select from off the menu. Will be coming back for sure!

Visited De Post with my husband on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The bar was busy but staff were attentive and very friendly. <br/><br/>I had the Hot smoked Salmon which was beautifully presented and tasted great. My husband opted for the Beef and Ale Pie. My husband can be hard to please but he was very impressed by his dish - one of the best pies he has ever tasted not to mention the delicious creamy mash which came with it.<br/><br/>After our fabulous mains we decided to stick around for some dessert - Wow!! The sticky toffee pudding was to die for!<br/><br/>We would highly recommend a trip to De Post. The friendly staff, amazing food and warm, welcoming environment all make for a great experience.<br/><br/>We look forward to returning soon!<br/><br/>

Ordered:<br/>Two x half kilo mussel pots w/fries <br/>Tomato Herb/Thai coconut curry<br/>Sparkling water 750ml<br/>-$46 for Two<br/><br/>We arrived just after 6, booked for a table for two and got seated in the most awkward table u can find in the whole restaurant. I was pregnant and wanted to sit somewhere a little more spacious. There were other tables available that weren't reserved but we were turned down for taking those seats because they were for table of 4 and guess what, those tables all ended up with 2 people sitting in them.<br/><br/>Service was slow and the sparkling water we ordered along with our food came a while after we started eating. <br/><br/>The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but the flavour of the mussel pots were a little bland and a few mussels didn't open. <br/><br/>Overall, the whole dining experience was quite disappointing for us.
Debbie L2
Good service, we had the 1/2 kg ribs and chicken burger...very yummy and totally satisfying. The cob bread was perfect. We were so full we couldn't do dessert. A little bit of a wait for food but it was a packed evening.
Aimee.
I've been here many many times and I must say I really enjoy the atmosphere and beer. The food is not bad either. They make great mussels and there's a variety of flavours and marinades to choose from. A little bit on the higher end price wise for what you get but I believe this restaurant also does specials like half price burgers which could save you money.

Service - dont expect any. Came here when its not full nor busy just before 6pm on a saturday night. Sat down got the menus.... then waited and waited. No one came to get any drinks order or follow up with getting our orders while barman and manager behind the bar chatring to each other... so at the end we walked and left. I spoke to the barman then the manager on our way out, all they said was Sorry. They just didnt care. How does businesses survive like this? We are not coming back again.
Rob Alloway
Appalling service! Actually no service. Called in at 6pm on a Saturday - not busy. Got seated at a table with our two year old. Waited and waited and waited. The two lazy bartenders were folding napkins but seemingly didnt have time to take an order....After 15 minutes we left, will never go back. Hopeless.

I've been coming here for years now, and have always loved the amosphere, service and kai here. Try the Mount Eden Platter, it's well presented and delicious! :)

Came in here for lunch service with my sister and her partner as a belated birthday gift. Greeted into a warm room, with a spacious bar and plenty of seating. Servers were friendly and attentive. I had a pint of Leffe Blond beer and the Blue and Beef burger with added bacon for an extra $4. Enjoyed it all, and will definitely be back. Great variety of French/Belgian dishes and imported Belgian beers.

Been here twice for the $20 steak and frites. Great value for the price and the mushroom sauce was really delicious too.<br/><br/>Would be back for a cheap eat.

While my Father was over from Perth we decided to attend for a late lunch, the staff were so nice they even let him chew their ears off for awhile as he talked about America and Texas in particular. My dad loved the beer they served and I would highly recommend their Cranberry Vojito's if you prefer something non-alcoholic.... so refreshing on a hot day, my partner kept it a virgin but I had vodka added. <br/><br/>I ordered the Beef n Blue Burger, My partner ordered the Salt n Pepper Squid and my Father ordered the Fettuccine(I might add they were happy to add additions like mushrooms and chicken to my fathers dish).<br/><br/>My Beef n Blue went down like a treat(the blue sauce was to die for), I would only recommend the salt and pepper squid if you love some heat as it has quite a bit of chili to it and my Father loved his fettuccine.<br/><br/>All in all, lovely staff, pretty decent food and a lovely place to attend. I would definitely return for the Cranberry Vojito's alone, me and my partner are still raving on about them.

With half price mussels on a Monday you can't go wrong. Foreign beers and meals that won't leave you hungry. It's quite loud downstairs if it's busy. There is more seating and separate bar upstairs.

Poached eggs were well overcooked, bagel was nice and soft though.<br/>Service was adequate.<br/>Cleanliness was at a good standard, apart from abundance of flies outside.

Nice little place with fast food arrival! I had the breakfast burger and it was delicious! Service could have been more attentive and friendly. Food and atmosphere were great so would definitely go back!

Had the meat platter to share with a friend. Large platter, generous amount of food.<br/>Finished off with waffles. <br/>Good service, friendly staff.

got the butchers block and a pot of mussels.. mussels were great and tasted really fresh .. the chicken was a bit dry but other meat tasted good .. hot chips were nice also

It's kinda cold and outdated, we sat near the bar viewing the menu. <br/>We ordered the seafood mussel platter which filled two stomachs. The mussel pot was a bit under however overall, Service was of standard and food was good.

Visited De Post on a Sunday afternoon with a group of friends for some tea. We had to sit outside in the cold but a waitress got us some blankets which we appreciated. The outdoor heaters kept turning off for some reason. <br/>A waiter brought out a tray of white tea cups which were all dirty. When we told him that the cups were dirty he blamed the dishwasher. I'm sorry but he should take the responsibility for giving us dirty cups. Then we got cleaner cups but there were ants floating in the jug of milk and the jug was clearly dirty.<br/>We have been here before for quiz night and had a great time but very disappointed in the lack of good service this time around.

They charged me for an extra glass of wine which I didn't buy! This happened not once but twice, previously in Feb! Each time they argued with me and refused to admit their mistakes and continued to overcharge me!ļ¼must double check your receiptļ¼ļ¼ļ¼

We hadn't been to De Post for a while so decided to stop in for a drink & some bar snacks. I'm not really a mussel fan, but theirs are cooked so well they are worth ordering - particularly the garlic & lemon & the Thai coconut.<br/>We also ordered the fries & calamari. Other meals I've had in the past have also been good.<br/>Service was great - we had a great barman (possibly Irish?) he had good banter throughout the night.<br/>Good drinks selection & pretty reasonably priced too. I really enjoy their framboise beer, & their beer selection in general is great. Good wine selection too.<br/>A great visit to an old favourite.

We intended to have lunch at Scarlett Slimms & Lucky, but were 20 minutes before it was open, so we went to De Post instead. My wife had MacCheese Balls & streaky bacon and I had battered fish with wedges & salad. Both were just as expected - nothing of a surprise. Coffees were not hot.Ā  (Food - 3/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 3.5/5)

We went here on Queen's Birthday Weekend and the staff were very accommodating. We sat outside because it was quite warm when we arrived, and as it got colder, the staff brought us some blankets. Although one of our orders was accidentally not put in the system, the staff was quick to try to rectify this and gave us a free hug as we waited for it. Overall, great food and great service, but some of the prices don't seem to correlate to what you get on the plate. A friend of us got the pork belly and it was two small slices on cabbage, and we got these 6 Mac and cheese balls for around the same price.

Half price mussels with a drink on Mussel Mania MondaysĀ is probably one of the favourite things about Auckland for our Breton friend N. It's become a ritual for him to come here for at least the first and the last weeks of his regular Auckland stays. I guess they remind him of home, though the huge meaty NZ mussels are nothing like the tiny black ones where he is from.

Two for one burgers! šŸ”šŸ”<br/>(Sunday's only). That's what caught our eye and pulled us into this place. It's not normally a place we'd pick for lunch but we were pleasantly surprised. The counter area was busy with people topping up on wine and beer, which seemed to be mainly locals and regulars. <br/><br/>Once seated, we questioned our waitress about the burger deal and if it was possible to get a vegetarian option. She was very helpful and considerate to our request. Our meals arrived promptly and were very well portioned. We were surprised that both burgers came with fries for this deal. My partners vegetarian burger was pretty good considering it was made specially. My lamb burger was really filling and the eggplant relish was a unusual twist. The fries were hot and had the crunch we were after.<br/><br/>Overall we were happy with our meals and the service we received. Lexi the young lady that served us during our visit was such a star and made a huge difference to our experience so two thumbs up to her! If your after a cheap and cheerful burger option I'd give this place a go!!

Came here only because they were screening the Warriors game. Just like my faith in the warriors, my faith in this place is relatively low. The establishment I assume is Beligian? Really though it's just a boring Irish bar. I ordered the bread starter with whipped garlic butter. This was the best thing I had...THE BREAD! I had the main Pork loin fillet thinking that it would be a challenge for an establishment like this. In reality it was an impossibility; the meat was tough, overcooked and unpleasant. It came with a rather nice potato mash, however the apple, relish and sauce were jus not complimenting together. Three different kinds of sweet was just saying to me...please ignore the meat. I decided to finally try the chocolate mousse with cream. At first it was positive and then utter disappointment because it wasn't completely set. A wet watery residue was at the bottom. Kinda like the warriors game. Come here for beer, come here for sport. Do not come here for the mains...maybe the ribs, mussels and platters. Seriously though There are much better restaurants next door, across the road and down the street. Even the bakery nearby is better and won't cost you $87 for total disappointment. It was so bad it put me off ever going to visit Belgium in general.

Had dinner here on a Thurs. Ordered the $17.50 steak special. Seemed like a good deal but definitely not worth the cheap price. Steak was well cooked to med as requested but the rump steak was terrible, full of tendons making it very hard to eat and had to pay $2.50 extra for a bit of sauce on top. The other main of pork loin was dry and bland. Needed a lot more jus or sauce. The only thing that tasted good was the waffle chips. Service was ok. We asked for the waffle chips to come out first but was told that because it had been ordered together the food would come out together as they were busy. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Bad cheap food at higher prices than should be. I got the fish which was soggy and not tastey at all. Good service though and great beer but wouldnt reccomend to get the mains there.

I came here last night after winning dinner for two through a competition on their Facebook page - GO LIKE BY THE WAY!<br/>Ordered the salt and pepper squid for starter and it was AMAZING. Squid was cooked perfectly and the batter was perfect combo of light and crunchy.Ā <br/>We each had the sirloin steak with mushroom sauce - cooked PERFECTLY, the mushroom sauce is so flavoursome and great to dip chips into also.<br/>I really love the atmosphere in this place, they were packed out on a Sunday night which just goes to show they provide top notch consistent service and food all the time. Also, I'm not a beer drinker but every I come here I am astounded at the range of beers they have on offer.

We go to De Post in Mt Eden most Friday evenings for<br/>after-work drinks and, although we understand there is new management we have<br/>yet to notice any changes and only return due to the lack of alternatives in<br/>the village.Ā  We find the practice of<br/>reserving tables in the bar area most annoying, several times we have been told<br/>to move because the table is reserved, so we, as regular patrons, are often<br/>left standing in ā€˜no-manā€™s landā€™ while there are empty tables.Ā  Reservations for upstairs and the downstairs restaurant<br/>part is fine, but surely the bar area should be first come, first served.Ā  Talking of service, we have had a few meals<br/>in the past and whilst the food is OK the service has been abysmal.Ā  Somebody else mentioned the staff are not<br/>trained to wait on tables properly.Ā  We<br/>had a meal there a couple of weeks ago and waited until we had done so before<br/>posting this review.Ā  Unfortunately not a<br/>fantastic experience, we found a table (with a ā€˜reservedā€™ sign on it for 2<br/>hours hence) sat down and waited for somebody to come over, didnā€™t happen, had<br/>to go to the bar and find somebody to serve us.Ā <br/>The food arrived promptly enough and was OK, we both had a burger, we<br/>had almost finished eating when a<br/>waiter appeared and took my partners plate away, we both had mouths full of<br/>food and were flabbergasted that this happened, I had to grab hold of my plate<br/>and say leave it, I am still eating!!Ā  We<br/>have experienced this before, although not quite so bad, nobody to serve you initially<br/>and then clearing the table way too soon ā€“ please allow people to finish in<br/>their own time.Ā  This put a bit of a<br/>damper on things, we felt rushed and elected to leave and go somewhere else for<br/>dessert and coffee.Ā Ā One more observation,Ā some of those bar stools are seriously in need of repair.

I asked to cook the stake with medium, but I have to insist that it's a little hard to chew. Good service. good environment and lovely price with grab**e voucher. a ha ha 140 characters.

A group of us went to dinner last night.Ā  We go to DePost often and last night's dinner what not very good at all.Ā  3 of us ordered the Fish and Chips and the agria chips were hard and barely cooked and couldn't be eaten by any of us.Ā  Complained to the waitress and she then bought us a bowl of fries which were better.Ā  The fish was lovely, but had gone cold by the time we got the fries.Ā  Very disappointed as we usually enjoy the food here.

Excellent service. The waitress is very friendly and helpful. The food took a while to come, give us some quality time to chat and catchup. The food is average. Calamari is yum, like the extra spice added. The other food are pretty average. The mussels is great according to my wife. Overall value for money.
Annie Bananie
The food was good with medium-big mussels that were soft and tender. So far the blue cheese 1kg is my favourite. The staff were very nice but slightly undertrained. The entrees were quite small but tasted good. Hoegarden and Leffe Blonde is my favourite beers here.
Beverly Semu
use to come here a lot when my dad had gigs every Sunday. id say that the quality has gone down a little bit from back then but I still enjoyed the food. didn't wait long. I always order mussels and they're always on point, my fave. and also the calamari is the nicest I've ever had. would still recommend this place, maybe they just need to upgrade their services
Gia
Their mussels are delicious! My friend and I ordered their venison burger and one of their large mussel platter. Order arrived fast because it wasn't packed yet. Ambience and service was alright. Definitely coming back for their mussels!!!

Worst experience out of the many restaurant I've been to. Had the 2 in 1 burger deal and half way through my burger, I found a live slug on my plate. Yes, ALIVE!!Ā Right in the middle of my chips. ItĀ started crawling towards the edge of my plate where I manage to snap a pic. Made a complaint to the manager and she said they will take the burger out of the bill and give me a free dessert. Reluctantly, I said ok. When I went to pay for my bill, I had to pay the exact sameĀ amount. Yes, because the burger was free from the first burger which I had to pay. I spoke to the manager again and she insisted that I had to pay for the one burger. So basically, I did not get the free burger which I am entitled and had to pay the exact same amount. All I had was the free dessert, no discount what so ever. The staff also failed to mention that the burger deal was not valid for anyone using a grabone voucher which I specifically told the staff I had one before getting seated and specifically asked the same staff if the burger is get 2 for 1 price. Excuse given by manager, staffĀ was new and he did not know. One thing to note, I ordered 4 main meals amongst 2 person so I am sure the manager could have made an exception on the grabone deal and could have given me a bit of discount on my bill for such an unexceptable incident. AS you can see from the photo, slug was not on the plate at the start, I found it on the plate while I was cutting my burger and the top half moved onto the plate, which means the slug came from inside the burger and the staff admitted it might have come from the lettuce in the burger. VERY UNHYGEINIC!! VERY BAD SERVICE. Not only on the slug incident, throughout our meal we were given very little attention and I had to ask for water 3 times before I got one.

The food is good, I would recommend the ribs,Ā  but nothing particularly special for the price. The different deals on days of the week are what I go for.Ā  The atmosphere is usually buzzing, but can end up feeling too crowded with staff running off their feet. The last time I went, it was especially to get a happy hour drink after work- we got charged full price and on investigation happy hour "only applied to small sized drinks". We overheard confusion bout the same issue at a neighboring table- I hope they state their conditions on their posters or stop this dodgy tactic.

Sorry not impressed one bit by this place! great location but real lack of direction, i was extremely disappointed! went in here for a 2 for 1 burger deal and was utterly disappointed! none of their burger patties where served/made fresh and where basically from box, absolutely no love in making of the burger. The service was absolutely shocking, turned up on a Sunday afternoon Ā and no one seemed to want to be there, we had to wait almost 25mins before being seen to after we got into the bar and indicated we would be sat outside we then had to move back in to be served and by that time there was no seating downstairs, upon moving upstairs we were advised it was closed which made no sense at all so were left in limbo to eat our food at the bar counter- by far the most incompetent staff i have come across
Chris Fernando
Went here today for lunch, I got the eggs bennie with bacon which is normally my favorite; although when it arrived the eggs were over cooked and not runny, which is a must, so that was a shame. Service was good.

Are there any more Belgium cafes in Auckland? I've been to the one in City and the one in MB. I do know that it's known for mussels but I didn't feel like having something heavy so went for waffle chips. It was happy hours and went for Hoeggarden large. <br/><br/>Staff was friendly and professional. I sat on the outside deck. Fries were bought rather quickly. But wasn't too impressed. Some of them were undercooked and felt like eating raw potato.<br/><br/>Will come again and have mussels and can update my review based on that.<br/>

This use to be our regular for after-work drinks and food. Due to the gradual decline of service, we stopped going altogether. A Shame as they serve one of my favourites - Belle-Vue Kriek!

I've been to De Post a few times and it is a fantastic place to share platters of food with a group of people you know well - unless you know how to gracefully eat mussels + pork ribs with fork and knife.Ā <br/><br/>Here, you must try the 2 great Belgian delicacies: Kwak (Belgian beer) & mussels and fries (moules-frites).Their steamed mussels are so tender and flavorsome. They taste quite similar to the authentic Belgian moules-frites that I had in Belgium. Highly recommend the Garlic, celery and lemon steamed mussels (with fries), for the aforementioned ingredients subdue the inevitable shellfish odour of the mussels.<br/><br/>Kwak's (easily the best beer ever, hands down) mellow, fruity and malty aroma with minimal tastes of hop goes really with the mussels and fries. Too bad they do not serve Kwak in their unique glasses, like they do in Belgium.Ā Ā <br/><br/>If you aren't a fan of seafood, opt for the Pork ribs in spicy BBQ sauce instead. The sauce is a bit tangy and the meat is beautifully succulent.Ā Ā The Venison burger Ā & theĀ Chicken BLAT = average, why not have them elsewhere?<br/><br/>Busy pub atmosphere: At times difficult to get the waiters/waitress' attention.Ā Tables may not be prepared before you get seated, but they at least they got clean bathroom upstairs.

The food was absolutely amazing on a Friday night! It took time but was definitely worth the wait, staff are super friendly and the pics should really say the rest!<br/>Calamari, cherry-hoegaarden-leffe beers, chips & dip and roasted chicken breast.
Sukriti Bhatnagar
Dinner here was pretty good apart from the lil hiccup at the start. The service here was fast but that's due to us coming before the rush hour. The calamari dish was a bigger portion than I expected as well as the chicken main but delicious.

I've been here a few times with my mum - it is quite nice. I love their grilled mussels! The Po Pei is good, or a selection of the mixed if you want to try a variety of flavours.<br/><br/>My mum prefers the steamed mussels in the celery, lemon and garlic sauce. She loves the light fresh taste and even sips on small spoonfuls of the soup that the mussels sit in. So much flavour. The food arrives fast as well.

After really poor (well complete lack of) service experience about a month a go when we stood at the bar for over 8 minutes (when there were no other patrons at the bar) and watched the 3 staff discuss matters that were clearly more important than serving customers, we decided yesterday to give the place another chance for lunch....<br/><br/>Nothing has changed. Ā Walked in and told to take a seat and a staff member would bring over menus and take a drink order. Ā Aside from a surly look from the bar tender who clearly by the look on his face had other places he would much rather be, no sight of a waitress/waiter.<br/><br/>5 minutes later, no menu's, no drink order.... Weekend Dad with kids in tow turns up, shown to a table and given menus and drinks order taken immediately - perhaps we should have hired some children....<br/><br/>8 Minutes pass - surly looks from the bar tender continue - clearly the other place he would rather be was anywhere but De Post... Ā Waitress delivers drinks to nearby tables but develops rapid onset deafness when we attempted to attract her attention.<br/><br/>10 Minutes on - surly bartender continues his contemptuous looks in our direction, but clearly the concept of walking away from the bar and attending to seated customers was beyond comprehension.<br/><br/>12 Minutes on we were over it - clearly they had enough customers for the day and didn't require our contribution. Ā Down the road to the Horse and Trap we ventured - Great Service, Fantastic Food and attentive Staff.... Ā suggest the "team" from De Post take a break and wander down there sometime to see what they could aspire to....<br/><br/>Needless to say, we won't be back.

The service is good..<br/>Ah those ribssssssssss mouthwatering<br/>Grilled mussles.. amazing beef burger!!!<br/><br/>I didnt get a chance to try there desserts yet! Service very average came here with a group of 8, drinks took longer than food. By the time we finished drinks still didn't come when asking waiter about it gave me a very unsatisfying answer and the staffs just mucked around doing nothin so had to ask the second time for drinks to be followed up. Half an hour for a cup of mocha and it's not even a busy day
PancakePanda
Probably my preferred Belgian beer cafe restaurant out of the chain- that being said, I have only been to the Mission Bay, Auckland CBD and Hamilton CBD branches.Ā <br/><br/>De Post has great service and the staff are always attentive to your needs, they are also quite well versed in their drinks menu and are always ready to give you advice to match your meal to your drink or vice versa. The range of beer is good and most drinks are usually available. Rarely are the staff un-attentive, but once they did forget a side dish of mushrooms, they apologized profusely and wanted to give me a discount, but I said just waive it since I was too full from the AMAZING RIBS.Ā <br/><br/>The mussel pot is of-course a must if you are craving for some seafood but can't be bothered getting your hands dirty in the kitchen with cleaning the mussels.Ā Price wise, they have awesome deals with the mussel pots, but otherwise is a little on the pricey side when you order up on the alcoholic drinks.

I dont know why this place get a lot bad review, however my dining experience was okay. Server was nice and checking on us all time. Mussel half price on monday is a great choice

I'm pretty fond of this place for a casual after work drink and a bowl of frites so went a step further and tried it for lunch. The risotto balls I got were really nice although I was left feeling a bit short changed in terms of size! A side salad would have helped to make it a bit more substantial, especially for the price. What I did get was nice though and the service is friendly so it's still going to remain one of my usual haunts but perhaps not for lunch!

Overall I was highly dissapointed by the attitudes of the manager and one of the barmen. Waiting to take my groups order took about 30 minutes, and where I had to ask to order when finally a barmen walked passed, and the bar was not even busy to a certain extent. Futhermore, they got the order for the beers wrong which resulted in my taste buds going down hill as well as giving me a higher priced beer than the one I asked for. Despite all the fuss, the little asian waiter was very polite and caring towards the service he provided and as well as the guy who was at the computer where we had to pay.
Brett Randell
Rather nice place to have a few drinks and a feed with family or friends. Beers are rather pricy, but do taste delicious. I did quite like the live music component. Allows the audience to interact with the musician for a pleasant chat, however, it was a bit loud, so the diners were not able to talk to each other without shouting. Not a bad place to dine
Gentlepig
The once glorious De Fontein has grown tired - along with all the other Belgian Beer Cafe's in Auckland it seems. It's popular has outlived itself, and the dishes are now safe rather than interesting. You won't be completely wrong in saying that you could perhaps make most of the menu at home at a similar standard. The beer list is still ever impressive and is the sole highlight - the steak I had was satisfactory. I remember trips to Belgian Beer Cafes used to be a treat, now it's more 'lets just get some food in us'.
Lily Green
Every time I visit De Post, I'm hoping for a miracle. Over last few years the food has been getting worse and the service is another story entirely. The last time I was there (quite recently on a Saturday) the atmosphere was pretty much dead and the food was average. The only selling point was the fact that I love Belgium beers and they're the only place I know that stocks Jupiler. My visits here from now on will be very few and far between, which is upsetting because it used to be one of my favourite places to go.
Samuel Davis
Came here a few months back. Ordered the blue cheese mac & cheese. The most bland sauce I've ever tasted. I make better myself on a regular basis. It tasted like they had combined the flour and water, then felt that was enough for a sauce. Worse still, they charge restaurant prices. Will recommend people stay away from here if considering somewhere to eat.

I honestly don't know why this place is so popular, I think it's because it's been here forever, it's the only pub-type place at this end of Mt Eden and it does mussels, which are really hard to stuff up anyway.<br/><br/>I've been here about 4 times since they've opened. I've never chosen to come here myself, it's always been when other people have invited me. Luckily it's always been when other people were paying. I love the Belgian Beer CafƩs' menu but the food at the Mt Eden one is lacklustre. They also never seem to have enough menus and always ask you to share. It is in a beautiful building but the upstairs feels a bit down-at-heel and slightly grubby to me.<br/><br/>The last time I came here earlier this month I had the steamed mussels with bacon and cider. The mussels themselves were succulent and the cooking liquor was yum but the bacon was cut into large cubes that had the uniform spongey texture of processed cheap ham steaks. Also because the chunks were so big, they didn't get dispersed throughout the mussels. The chips they came with were stale and flabby and served in stainless steel bowls that were reminiscent of ones that you'd find in a medical facility.<br/><br/>I think it's a good place for a drink but that's about it.<br/><br/>

Came here on a Friday night for dinner. Had one of those Grab One vouchers. Took a while to get seated or greeted. We were then seated upstairs. Ordered a plate of salt and pepper squid for an entrƩe to share with my partner. I ordered a 500g rump steak (medium rare) and he ordered 1kg of mussels which came with chips. <br/><br/>The steak was SUPER dry and chewy. My jaw hurt from eating the steak. The sauce was nice. Interesting how they put the steak (and mushroom sauce) on top of the chips = soggy chips. But hey, It actually tasted good with the steak sauce. Mussels were nice though. Didn't think it would be that filling but man! We're we stuffed before we were even finished. <br/><br/>The salt and pepper squid was really nice! Not chewy. Batter was nice and light but still crispy/crunchy. <br/><br/>Customer service was good -very polite. But was very busy. Took a while for our meals to arrive. But the food was great -beside the rump steak. Would definitely go there again.

We popped in here last night for a bit of dinner after we had walked around Cornwall park. It's been a while since I had been here so I was keen to check it out.<br/>On Thursdays they have a deal on their 500g of rump steak and chips meal, only $17.50, so my brother ordered that. I ordered the pork belly starter as a main. I love pork belly and this was a good one but the crackling wasn't crunchy it was soft. I prefer crunchy. My brother ate his meal super fast so I can only assume he enjoyed it.<br/>For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was good and rich and if anything a bit too much for me to finish. My brother had the sundae and then finished my mousse! <br/>All in all a good meal!<br/>
Greg Jonas
Great selection of beer. Pay a bit more for it of course. But worth every cent. Nice staff there too.
Moon
Great service and good food! The mussels are the best! Especially the white wine and blue cheese one. <br/><br/>The lamb pot pie could use a little less seasoning. A little too salty and there wasn't enough bread to go with it. But the lamb was very tender. <br/><br/>Would recommend! <br/>
Christina
We came here on a weekend night a few months ago but felt I had to share my great experience here.<br/><br/>We had a voucher for our dinner, and after being seated and looking through the menu, we settled on the creamy white wine and blue cheese mussels served with fries for entree, and steak mains.Ā <br/><br/>After the mussels arrived we soon noticed there were a lot of empty shells with no mussels, so pointed this out to the waitress who was very gracious and apologised Ā and said they'll bring more out. Not only did they bring out another bucket of mussels but also the fries that came with it so we were rather impressed. The mussels themselves were so delicious- tender and juicy with the creamy sauce.Ā <br/><br/>Our steak mains arrived about 15 mins later which was fine for a busy weekend evening. Decent sized steaks done to perfection with lots of salad on the side. I asked for medium rare which was done correctly.Ā <br/><br/>I recommend this place to all my friends with particular note to their service- the only slight let down was the amount of noise but I guess that's to be expected from a bar/restaurant setting.
Lisa
I was really disappointed in this one... I ordered the fish and chips, my friend got the sliders whilst the third ordered the sausages. Fish and Chips were bland and the sauce provided tasted watered down. If you're thinking of going to De Fontein for dinner I say venture out and go to the Mission Bay one instead.
Tanz
Yes, beer list and wine list is same as the other two shop, but the menu fur main course is largely deducted from original ones. Wanted to taste beef stew but not show in menu. Their chain store in mission bay is a better place with a better view, I think.
Edward
You can't go wrong with a pot of mussels and glass of Belgium beer. Yum<br/>It can get busy at times but Monday half price pots are worth turning up early for.
Jazz Wilson
Pretty cool pub. I had pumpkin fettuccine was pretty decent
Tony Ma
I come here every now and then to eat their monday mussels since it's half price<br/><br/>good food, but never EVER order their steak! It is extremely dry and chewy, you will not even be able to swallow it

sevice 3/5environment 3/5food (quality) 4/5cost performance ( quantity) 4/5drink 3/5My favorites: 1 kiro mussels (spicy tomato and chilli)Not recommend: 1/2 kiro Angus rump steak & frites ( needs more seasoning.Ā  Any of their sauseĀ  are oily for me.I used salt &pepper instead of the sause.Ā  The petit salad is good.)

I'd say come here for a beer--skip the meal. Had a really disappointing dinner recently--food came after over 40 minutes of ordering. Service was saved by the attentive staff but the food wait on a weekday night was just horrible. I ordered rump steak ($30) that came in rubber texture with flour-thickened (so I tasted) peppercorn sauce--despite the fact that I ordered medium. My partner's eye fillet came rubbery and well done as well (he'd ordered medium rare) and the fish and chips we got was soggy and gross.<br/><br/>Very disappointing meals, I didn't expect such quality food to come from a Belgian Beer Cafe!

Two of us went for my birthday dinner this evening. We were seated immediately. The service was fantastic and even though the restaurant was busy we only had to wait approximately 30 minutes for our mains to arrive, we didn't have entrees. We had 1 kg of steamed mussels and Lamb pie. We thought both dishes were extremely tasty and filling and good value for money.

Can't speak of De Post in Mt Eden highly enough. <br/><br/>Service: EXCELLENT, they obviously had good communication with each other, all were on the same page, the staff were all having fun and relaxed, although the place was busy. They made us laugh, and the place had really good vibes! LOVE IT!<br/>Such a change from the past restaurant I went to, the staff members seemed a bit sad/ bitter/ cold. Staff make all the difference, they really do. <br/><br/>Food: EXCELLENT! I was getting every last bit off my plate! All our plates were completely clean. Every bite was just heaven :)<br/><br/>Price: Half price steak Thursdays- too good to be true, but it is! Can't believe how much we paid, about $60 for two people, which included one drink, big steak, mussels, AND desert! Really worth it. <br/><br/>Overall, my husband and I decided we should come back regularly because we had such a good time. Each point; the staff, the food and the price was all 11/10 (if there was such a thing!) Keep up the excellent work and we will be back for sure! It's a rare thing to find such a perfect restaurant :)

Have been a regular for the last 2 years and have to say that this is a pretty good pub. Was a bit surprised when some other reviews as it's almost like they are going to a different pub! the service is very friendly and they go out of their way to help my wife who is a fussy eater and pregnant with the menu. It can be a bit slow to get the food out nsometimes but they let you know when you get there if its going to be and they seem to have a small kitchen (I used to be a chef) so pretty impressed that it seems to be consitently good quality... and man is it generous, the missus never finishes her plate!! I like the meat platter on the new menu and the ribs are good too. My favourite beers are Lachouffe and the new beer on tap, recommend them both.
Janice
De Post doesn't have great food, it has a stodgey boring menu that hasn't changed in the 3 years I've lived here. The beer is good.. Cold but so expensive! The service.. Oh my, the service!! Probably the worst staff I have come across in Auckland. They are just awful! Cranky, moody, sour looking students with no sense of professionalism. The last time I ate there I swore I would never go back, and I haven't. There were three tables left downstairs, including ourselves, on a Saturday night at about 10pm. They obviously wanted us to leave so the staff turned up the music ridiculously loud, we thought it was an accident but after a few minutes it was still blaring! We asked them to turn it down, which they did.. For about 3 minutes, then it was blaring again! They got their wish.. We left! And I definitely won't be going back.. Also.. Let's be honest, it's a bit dirty!

We are locals and have been visiting De Post for over a decade.<br/><br/>Sadly, the service has been letting this place down in recent times. During peak times the service is extremely slow and the wait times very long.<br/><br/>If that doesn't bother you, the atmosphere can be great and the beer is cold.<br/><br/>We tried again 22/09/2015 - the service was surly and the place is very noisy when busy. You have to shout to place your order
Anne-Lise
I've been going to De Post regularly for a year and a half now. I like it because of it's extensive range of Belgian beers (my favorites), from a simple and refreshing Leffe Blonde after work to a more complex trappist Chimay when I can afford it.<br/>As for the food, they are famous for their mussels, of course (I recommend the blue cheese ones) but I personally worship their ribs, probably the best I ever had. <br/>The service can be a little chaotic when busy, but it's always friendly, which totally makes up for it. <br/>There's always something happening there : quiz nights, Bitchin Bingo (seriously, give it a go, it's hilarious), cool specials, live music... The place is packed on week-ends, because locals love it. Try their restaurant upstairs if you like it a little quieter.
Nickmard Khoey
The best of the bunch<br/><br/>Having visited all of the Belgian Beer Cafes in Auckland I do believe this is the best. The staff are great and the old Post building really takes me back to those cold winters nights in old cafes in Brussels getting smashed on 11% beers and eating stoemp and sausages. Good times.

Not a stranger to their steamed mussels, I ordered my usual favourite toppings: coriander and lemon. Y-U-M-M-O. I've always enjoyed Mt Eden's De Fontein branch - the food is consistently tasty and service is great (I can't say the same for Takapuna's De Fontein - you can read my review there). My friend had the Flemish stew - and it was delicious too (clean plates were the evidence of the day!).

We have been regulars for many years<br/>Love the place<br/>But our last few visits have been marred by poor service <br/>Also the menu has seemed tired <br/>The place is still very good fun but needs attention

Ate as a pre-booked party of 17 We were crammed in a corner and the service both drinks and food was very slow. As always the food was good and the beer up to the usual standard. Would not recommend dining as a big group. Staff were charming but overextended.

Very nice food and beer, enjoy the night there. The service was good and the atmosphere was fantastic.

I like all the belgian beer cafes in Auckland and this one is no exception. Sometimes we take advantage of the half-priced mussels (on Mondays) which are delish and you can't beat the belgian beer! The only thing to make it a 5* place would be the seating arrangement/atmosphere/decor...not sure what it is but it doesn't have quite the same "feel" as the other belgian beers..I think it might be because the entrance breaks up the bar into two halves and you have to go upstairs to find more seating, which lets be honest who can really be bothered doing.

A place i frequent and love, the staff are always nice (some better than others) but always nice and efficient, their beer knowledge is great (as expected from staff in a beer cafe)!! their food is consistently better than the other belgian beer cafes and better value (yes i have tried the others a few times)..<br/>The venue is brill and atmosphere is always pleasant one thing i will say is, beware of mondays, they do their signature mussels for half price and boy do they get a massive crowd in, though they seem to never falter on quality you should expect a wait but patience rewards you with a great feed! iv read the reviews on this place and while some are quite damming i would recommend this place to anyone, its great!

De Post used to be a highlight of Mt Eden Village, but I believe it has unfortunately severely dropped in standards. The last three times I have dined here for a quick lunch with my mother or grandfather, both Mt Eden locals, I have been disappointed, so much that the last time I decided never to return. The tables were greasy, the service ineffective, and the food overpriced for such average bland fodder.

Have been going to Depost for the past month or so. My husband is very keen on the beers and i am a huge fan of mussels so after our visit to Belgium, having Depost within walking distance is a blessing. We find the service is prompt, food delicious, a great variety of belgian beers, friendly staff and the young man managing at night is very pleasant and often has us laughing. <br/>I recommend trying the mussels. My husband loves the dark beer on tap. Thumbs up<br/><br/>

Wish I had have read the recent reviews here before I visited! The food is lovely, as long as you have all night!<br/><br/>* Only ordered 2 entrees for a group of 7, but got 1. After asking twice about where the other one was, the eventual response was "are you sure you ordered it?"<br/><br/>* Another hour passed and still no mains (or the missing entree). Queried 3 times with our waiter who didn't come back to respond until we asked again. Eventually went inside and complained. Still no action.<br/><br/>* After 1.5 hours, asked to speak with manager. After complaining, received food within 10 minutes. Her service was excellent, and she gave us the meal free of charge. <br/><br/>Unfortunately too little too late - would rather have paid for the meal and enjoyed some service! <br/><br/>Thought it was perhaps a one off terrible experience, but based on recent reviews, it seems to be the norm.<br/><br/>A real shame - great food but appalling service. Won't be back as it's an embarrassment to take people there.

Average pub. Belgian beers were all a bit pricey, especially considering the service. The waitress that served us was rude and after spilling beer on my clothes she wasn't even apologetic! With my clothes smelling like alcohol for the rest of the night it was a huge let-down.

Went to De Post yesterday and they have added a new outdoor area to the side. Was lovely sitting outside having a meal and a few drinks. The meal was really nice and came out quickly + our waiter was very on to it :)

Had a bad experience with this restaurant. Went there for dinner with my parents. Took about 50 minutes for the food to arrive. The place wasn't even full and they had plenty of staff working that night, so I have no idea why it took so long, had to ask the waitress twice to check on our food.

This has been my worst ever dining experience.<br/><br/>1) left a msg requesting a reservation. Didn't hear back and when I called back, was advised that they were having problems with their answer service.<br/><br/>2) arrived and placed our orders. Drinks were served promptly, waiter was pleasant and attentive.<br/><br/>3) 45 mins later, the waiter arrived back at our table and advised that our meals were ready but that they did not have calamari which 3 of our table had order. Alternate orders were taken from these 3 diners and 2 of meals were then served.<br/><br/>3) the poor waiter came back and with another meal and advised that the kitchen had just advised that they did not have any Seafood Waterzooi, which had been ordered. I requested to speak to the manager.<br/><br/>4) after about 10-15 mins manager arrived with the other 3 meals and then asked to speak to the last diner, who had no meal. He also advised that he would not be charging for these 3 meals. I spoke to him and advised that it was unacceptable to be told just before serving that meals were unavailable and that whilst he had waived the charge for the 3 meals, that this was the minimum he could do and he should consider waiving the charge for the other meals as the other guests had been embarrassed and inconvenienced. He didn't comment and asked me what meal I would like. I asked what could be provided as soon as possible and made my selection from this. He told me that he would get my meal as soon as possible and offered another drink. Subsequently, the waiter arrived and also offered our table free drinks.<br/><br/>5) My salad Nicoise arrived - it had boiled eggs &amp; bacon, salad leaves, bean sprouts, no dressing. These apparently were the ingredients listed on the menu, however, I thought a salad nicoise had salmon, anchovies and olives. Not this one.<br/><br/>6) when we went to pay for our meal, we were charged for the 3 meals that arrived initially and some drinks and the Waterzooi dish which never eventuated. I told the manager that our experience from start to finish was a disaster and being charged for a meal which didn't arrive, just left a bad taste in my mouth. He apologized for our experience and said he would take care of the bill. We left.<br/><br/>I am so disappointed and angry that what should have been a pleasant evening with friends was marred and spoilt by this incredibly bad level of service. Shame on you De Post, my take away provides better service and food than this. I will definitely not be frequenting this place again.<br/><br/>I am only giving it 1star as its not possible not to give any stars - 1 star is too much for our dining experience tonight.

It was my birthday so I thought Iā€™d go out for dinner with my partner, my Mum and two friends. We arrived at De Post at approx 6.45 on a Monday night (which apparently when they do specials on mussels) and were told that they could fit us in which I was really happy about. We were sat at a good table upstairs, with menus straight away. Our drink order was taken promptly and come reasonably quickly. For entrĆ©es I ordered the herb and garlic loaf and my partner ordered the mixed platter of mussels. For mains the orders were Vol-Au-Vent chicken x2, pork belly, aoraki salmon and beef ravioli. And for drinks for ordered a bottle of the Ned Sauvignon Blanc.<br/>About half an hour later the loaf arrived. I was given the loaf on a plate ā€“ no extra plates were given for my fellow eaters. The bread was ok but was very crusty which made it very hard to cut. The mussels then followed 40 minutes later after several queries with our waiter, which he promised he was chasing up with his manager. There was only one waiter serving about ten tables and he was trying to do a great job, however his manager kept on giving him stern words which all the patrons could easily see. I was told the mussels were great, however we could not figure out what took the kitchen so long to get them out. At approx 8.40 we finally got our meals (two hours after we arrived!) and the vol-au-vents were luke warm (although tasty), the pork belly had tons of fat on it and salmon was tiny. The ravioli was piping hot and looked more like soup than a pasta dish.<br/>At the end of finishing our bottle of wine, we realised that we had actually been served a Pinot Gris! It tasted great but again a reflection of the poor service.<br/>I told the waitress at the counter when we were paying that we were not happy about how long we had to wait. However, we were still charged for everything without an apology from the managers. <br/>So all in all this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. The meals were tasty however the service has definitely put me off from returning, I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Enjoyed our Monday Mussel Mania night =) was expecting a crowd but we arrived @ 7.30pm and were promptly seated. Excellent service (well the waitress we had was!), beer was lovely, mussels just perfect and the fries with mayo divine... Recommend one garlic/herb loaf between two though as it is a big serving... that's coming from someone who loves bread! Only problem we had was that we were so full afterwards we had no room for dessert...

Definitely the best of the Belgian bar chains. Food is always good and service is fast and the staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend

What a fun place to go. Beer, beer and more beer in all styles and all flavours. And with our beer, mussels, grilled with European style toppings. The only problem is that having to drive home afterwards, we need to limit the brew.<br/><br/>Judy and David

The mussels really are to die for, regardless of which way you order them. Make sure to come on a Monday when they're half price! De Post is a great local for me whether it's a small catchup with friends or a larger function with work. Although their service starts to slack during the busier periods, their food is always excellent and their beer refreshing. De Post offers seating indoors and out, both downstairs and upstairs, so book a table now and experience the magic that is their mussels.

Not impressed - went here for brunch for the waffles. There was one other table and our meals took one hour. The portions were very small and coffees all can out 10 minutes apart.

The beer is awesome, and so are the frites, the calamari is very good. The ribs are fairly standard tasty and messy, the fish and chips are crisp and fresh.the Flemish stew enjoyed by my Dad is rich and authentic. But the mussels! Oh the mussels! I don't think you would find a place anywhere that does mussels as big tasty delicious juicy and so many different flavours as de Post.kiwi mussels Belgian style, an unbeatable combination <br/>My favourites are the steamed coconut and lemongrass curry, and the grilled spinach blue cheese and bacon, but you can get mixed platters too, so try as many as you can the first time, then you can go back for your favourites. Great place for a beer in the sun too
