Review Lone Star Westgate - Auckland Central

THEO
First time here tonight. The atmosphere was warm and good however felt it was too loud in the background. The waiters were friendly, professional, patient and well mannered. The food I ordered the JONNY STASH CHICKEN. The colslaw was tasty and fresh chips were great and the stuffed chicken was tasty and good. However the mushroom sauce you guys put on top not so good at all bland in taste disappointing. The For A Few Doughnuts More dessert. Doughnuts were too greasy/oily/rich even though it comes with vanilla cream and chocolate sauce I was actually disappointed in this. The prices are steep here too! I would still recommend this place to others.

Another fantastic dining experience. The food and drink was delicious, dining area clean, spacious and comfortable, service from our server Lexi was amazing. You can't go past the ribs but the pork loin was delicious šŸ‘

Another awesome meal here. Brilliant service from Ledi and the other staff... we'll be back again...forgot to get a photo of dessert!

Our first experience at Lone Star tonight and what amazing service! Phenomenal food, huge meals and amazing desserts, Our server Briar was amazing, great attentive service, quick clearing of plates and wished my son a Happy Birthday, really made our night!

We had dinner at Westgate Lone Star last night, booked on line, simple and easy to do. Pork for him, Johnny Cash chicken for me, both cooked beautifully and on our table 15mins after ordering whilst we had some bread(side note, the 'old' style loaf that used to be was much better!!) Service much better than two months ago. Ordered a longhorn cheesecake to take home, they are divinešŸ˜‹ Overall a very nice dining experience, it's great to be able to support local !

Very satisfied dinner. Book for 1860. Parking available. Very kind and friendly waitress. It was kind of pack however it took 15min to serve 5 dishes. I had a BB King Rib. It was amazing and worth the 36. It was large enough, delicious soft and tasty. About the atmosphere it was great. I like the music, like stereo. And people around was laughing and having fun. After a long hours of work, I would recommend you to try it out. šŸ‘Œ

Excellent service, staff was very friendly and helpful. Sasha was our server. Food was delivered promptly and was good. Large meals and definitely value for money. No problem bringing a birthday cake with staff also taking the time to sing happy birthday. Background music wasn't too loud as it has been when we have been there previously.

Lonestar never disappoints with their delicious food. This branch is one of my favourites. The staff are all very friendly and their service is quick. The restaurant is spacious and clean and has a great decor. The music played here is always great. Awesome busy atmosphere and great bar. Their food portions are huge and food presentation is a bonus.

Food was good. Lamb was the bees knees. Our server Tiara was awsome. Made us feel welcomed and always checked up on us. Also seemed very genuine.

Service and waitresses were very good. They didn't do a complimentary dessert like Whangarei but was happy they sung happy birthday for our friend. Probably wouldn't go again as it was very noisy with loud back ground music, couldn't hear ourselves talk. Great big meals and desserts were yummy.

I took my wife there for Valentine's day dinner. It was packed (as expected), however we were seated quickly. We ordered drinks and were looking forward to it as we usually go to New Lynn and always had a good experience. This was our first visit to Westgate. The waiter we had was lovely, albeit looking very stressed. 20 minutes passed and there was still no sign of our drinks, so we asked the waiter how they were getting on. He dutifully went to find out. 10 more minutes passed and our bread came to the table but still no drinks so we asked again. The waiter went off to check. Another 10 minutes later my wife got up to go find out where the drinks were. The waiter came to us and apologised and advised us that they had gone to the wrong table, but he got the manager to take the price of the drinks off the bill, which we appreciated but 40 minutes for drinks was a bit long. Never mind we thought. Wife ordered the rib eye and I went for the lamb shanks. The meals arrived sans cutlery. I asked the waitress to bring us some which she did straight away. I took one look at it and saw that both knifes were filthy. I had to get up and go to the bar to ask for clean ones. The shanks were a bit small but very tasty. The steak however was medium well (we ordered med rare). By this time I had decided not to get dessert but the Mrs wanted a creme brulee. That arrived and looked awesome. Perfect top and beautifully warm. Halfway through it became cold and unpleasant. Overall for me the romantic dinner with my wife was pretty much ruined for me. Fortunately I had a discount voucher because if I had to pay full price for that I would have refused. I will be sticking to New Lynn from now on.

We were so happy to hear a branch was opening at Westgate after having amazing experiences in Albany. Finally an occasion arose where we could come and celebrate. I rang in advance as there was 14 of us, and was told we would have a priority booking. We arrived on time and had to sit and wait for the table to be cleared. Staff were uneducated on the menu, then couldn't find the allergen menu. Waited for over an hour for our food, it came out to the point where some of our table had finished eating and others hadn't started. We sent food back because it was cold, and undercooked. The whole experience was extremely disappointing!

Went to our friendly Lonestar Westgate on Saturday night, OMG, food was divine as always. Prompt service, really lovely staff. Food for the table came out all at once, I donā€™t know how they do it. Atmosphere up there is always hubbub, and kid friendly which is great. We had a relaxed and enjoyable meal, thank you so much staff and management, see you again soon !

Had an awesome time with 2 active little boys on their first trip to a "you have to sit down no there's no playground" restaurant ļæ½ Staff were super lovely, our service was fast and friendly and the food was delish. We went at 430pm which I would recommend if u have littles as we were seated right away in a booth and our orders didn't take long. ā™”

20 mins wait for drinks, 40 min wait for food while other tables served before us, while the kids waited hungry. Charged for the bottle of wine we never received. $38 for an average steak with some coleslaw and a few chips not very good value. Won't be going back when there is better service, menu selection, pricing, value for money and atmosphere across the road at NorthWest.

Lovely food and generous portions. Was very busy but staff were helpful and considerate as my father is disabled. Everybody enjoyed their food but we were overcharged on the meal as staff had forgotten to remove an item that was unable to be prepared for a vegetarian and had been cancelled.

I've eaten at a few Lonestars throughout the country and the new Lonestar Westgate is top notch. Great food atmosphere, and the staff friendly and attentive. Keep up the great work!

Very Imoressed with your Calamari.... so soft and Tender..., Love it so Much..., ! And the 2 staff Jack and the young girl sung and made my evening Special with your Surprised Desert lit with candle. Thank you, very nice Surprised! We will return and recommend ā—ļøšŸ‘šŸ˜šŸ‘

Gerhard burger Very thick beef Pattie, served with bacon and cheese. I don't really like the taste of bacon inside, the others are not bad. The chips and sauce are delicious.

BB King Ribs: The portion is large, and the buffalo chips are also delicious. The price is a bit expensive, but it is worth it.
I personally had a very good memory of ribs when I had it from Christchurch and Albany outlet. I remember it being super super tasty, juicy and full of flavor, and I actually finished 9 ribs all to myself.

With the same anticipation, we went to the Massey outlet on a Sunday night. We ordered calamari rings as a starter and 12 ribs w/coleslaw and chips for main.

Calamari rings came to us waayyyy too quickly. It was a little bit soggy and lacked the freshness.

Unfortunately, the ribs did not taste as delicious as other branches and it was a little bit upsetting because I was really excited about it. It wasnā€™t as flavorful but just greasy. We ended up not being to finish it. Coleslaw also didnā€™t seem to have much flavor.

We got banoffee pie for dessert. The pie base was too hard to spoon it, but it was very delicious.

Overall, we spent a great date night here. Thanks so much šŸ˜‡

this road runner SPECIAL cost me 13.50. Feels like running away from this place.

Always our favourite spot! Whether itā€™s date night, weekday family dinner or a special celebration Lonestar Westgate never ever disappoints! We come here often and really love the rewards programme and the kids vouchers they send out for the colouring competitions. Always has us coming back. Steak is always juicy, ribs are always so tender and the milky bar pud is always a must have! Our 4 kids eat every bite (they all have kids Barney ribs) and even eat the coleslaw. Itā€™s their fave salad they say. WINNING!
Josie
One of the best Loan stars by far, the staff are lovely and look like they actually enjoy their job, and the food is soo delicious. Went here for our work do and they were really fast with our orders even though we were a huge group.
Rachael Jarvis
This place can get super busy and in our experience, errors can happen. Sadly we have had a few issues but the food is always lovely. Great atmosphere too

I felt sorry for the staff because they didnā€™t seem to be able to handle a Saturday night crowd, or didnā€™t have a good duty manager. We arrived and after standing at the desk for over 4-5 mins asked for a staff member to assist me. We were seated and it took almost 8-9 mins before I had to go ask some to take some drink orders. Incoming people standing at the door with no one in sight and all I could think of was if I owned this place thatā€™s dead money and a possible loss of patrons. I also wouldnā€™t recommend being seated at the table in front of the kitchen .. wasnā€™t ideal to see inside or hear staff conversations. Overall food was ok, but the service needs to be improved.
Juanita Salaivao
Iā€™ve heard so many great things about this restaurant and Was so excited to dine here for my father in laws birthday surprise but the food just didnā€™t live up to the expectation. Best thing about it was the fresh bread and butter. Service was also great
Neil S
Great service and food. Had one of the best steaks ever, well done and juicy, not many places can master that. Ribs were great too, tender and delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive, would definitely come again.
Donna N
The service here is good, however compared to other Lone Star restaurants the food isn't great. The Dixie Chicken seems to have got worse, and smaller over time, it certainly isn't as good as the New Lynn Lone Star. The sauce isn't as tasty and loaded with spring onions it just wasn't good.
Meagan Clark
Squid for a starter was nicely cooked ..came without salad and thought was a bit pricey for just some squid rings and sauce.
Lamb special for main was so good was well worth the $38 and only thing I would ask is for more potatos..I had one 1/2 pearla sized potato cut in half to portion with a very large sized meal of meat..otherwise was really tasty :)
Prawn meal had a nice small sized salad and good amount of prawns but was a bit overwhelmed with rice and sauce had really good flavour ..if it was thicker would have been better. Maybe less rice more salad with this dish . Always really good service from the ladys too and venue has good vibe, comfy booths with good old school music

We enjoyed a belated Valentines Day celebration here this evening as a family. Both of our daughters enjoyed cheese & pineapple Mexican toasties (one with fries and other with mashed potato), my husband ordered the rib special promoted by our waitress, while I indulged in a delightful vegetarian burger upgraded with mushrooms and fried eggs.
The service provided to us was attentive and friendly. Table was cleared promptly, timings for food and drinks was good and our order was presented without any mistakes. All the food tasted great and we would order again for sure. Thanks LS for a great evening!

Lone Star is one of the best places l've eaten at, with the starters, mains and dessert and the Western-American touch to the place, would come again.
Jmo
We ordered the pork ribs, chips and coleslaw takeaway. Good value for your money. The ribs were nice and tender. The flavour was ok it could have done with more sauce. I would love to try other stuff from their menu.
Okay went back for dinner and had the kiwi joker rib eye. Lovely meal but the eggs were over cooked. Great atmosphere for catching up and the staff were friendly. I would go back.

WOW!! we have been to Loan star a few times since it opened. The Steak is AMAZING!!! Other food and cocktails were also really good ( but you canā€™t beat a good steak) Service is always really great and Staff are super friendly.
Manoj Patel
Been here a couple times now, There is parking on site but few places around it, the times I've been there I've always managed to get parking. The ribs were very good, full of meat. Their loaf and coconut mussels were also good. Not a fan of their coleslaw though. Their desserts are great especially the lemon meringue dessert, yummmmm. Would return again for a different meal.

Delicious fish n chips! We ordered for pickup on my birthday and the salad was fresh and the tarter sauce too. Nothing old about this dish. Top quality.
Chloe Rose
Went with a group of 15 for birthdays. There were other large groups there the same night. The service was great . We had a reasonably new staff member Holly and she was amazing the food was great and the kids menu is amazing with first drink free and free ice cream dessert. Will definetly come back here I've had bad lone star experience in the past from other branches but thought it was perfect considering our large loud group šŸ˜

Impressed by our visit here tonight. Expected long wait times as it was quite busy but our meals came out quickly, were of high standard and tasted amazing. Staff were friendly and overall it was a warm, welcoming environment. Will definitely be coming back. :)

Had a delicious steak wuth mushroom sauce was soo good!!! Eould have rated 5 star but one if the not so friendly staff ruined it.. will deffs visit again

Extremely Poor service I have ever had. Not acceptable at all. No one give us Menu and water, just ask us to wait. I asked three times about the water. Really bad experience, I will never come back.
Had an enjoyable dinner here with great friendly service. Portion sizes are big but the staff are happy to pack away unfinished food for you to take home.

Tried the Johnny Cash Stash and that was so yum! Only thing was we booked before hand and didn't get seated till about 40mins later! šŸ‘ ....

Came here when they 1st open and got the ribs which were to die for! 2nd time not so good. 3rd time terrible. 4 time couldn't eat them.. at least they gave me my money back on the 4th visit. Iv all ways been a fan of lone stars ribs. But won't be coming back to Massey Lone star ever again. What a disappointment. Staff are all ways friendly! But somethings up in the kitchen. Why can't it be like the 1st time! Jucy, crisby on the outside, tender melt in your mouth meat and perfect sticky sauce! But now Dry! Sauce is not the same, the last order of ribs on my 4th visit was covered in pepper! And that's all I could taste... what a shame...

This place is awesome, massive meals very tasty and love the staff very helpful and they make yummy cocktails great family restaurant great atmosphere

I have only been to the Westgate franchise once, but we really enjoyed it that we will be back again. There was only a short 15minute wait for our mains, beware of the big portion size, but delicious as expected. Definitely is a more of a family restaurant than a quiet dinner date place. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, Iā€™m not one to be picky but the cocktail I was made was awful , they didnā€™t hesitate to remedy the situation straight away. The only down fall is the parking situation can be abit differcult but thatā€™s not the restaurants fault.

Delicious food that came out so quickly! Lovely staff and awesome atmosphere! Went out for dinner with my boyfriend and figured Lone Star Westgate would be a good call since it is so close by. Will definitely visit again when craving steak, will also try the fish next time!

I went here on New Years Eve with my friends for dinner. Lone Star is always one of my favorites as it is consistent.

The service was good, got seated quickly with menus but it was a little hard to wait for other people as we kept getting asked by everyone if we wanted to order yet.

The food was good! I had the ribs which are my favorite! Cocktails were really yummy too!

Would definitely come back! I had more photos but accidentally deleted them šŸ™

Got a table straight away. Had a lovely waitress. I ordered the Prawn Star. Was absolutely delicious. Very generous with the prawns. Hubby ordered the Ribeye Steak. Now heā€™s very picky when it comes to his steaks but said this was one of the best steaks he had had in a long time. Compliments to the chef. Will definitely be back.

Food is good, got the steak and it was cooked perfectly just as i wanted it ~ medium rare. However I think they need to work on their service bc the guy at the counter got pissed at us when we wanted to split the dessert bill lmao.

Partner had never been so we went recently on a Saturday night. It is annoying that it is not possible to book, turn up (parking is not great), half empty restaurant, and be told to go to the bar. To be fair, we had no sooner got a drink than taken to a table.Ā

Knowing the portion sizes, we skipped entrees. She had the fish (rock the boat), me the half dozen ribs. Her fish was very good; tasty, well cooked, and well presented. Ribs are ribs; tender, but why so much sauce? Less would be better as there is no bbq or meat flavour, just a cloying sweet sauce swamping all else. Vegies, as is the norm in average restaurants and the current fad, were semi raw; few people like soggy vegies, but hey, I am not a rabbit.Ā

She had a lemon meringue that she is desperate to go back for. She could not praise it highly enough. Me, the Milky Bar Pud was ok; sweet but not too sweet, and flavoursome.

I guess at such an establishment one takes the risk of other patrons being annoying, as indeed the group behind my seat were. Ā It seemed that 3 feet of space was not enough for them but I was ordered not to make a scene and 'bit my tongue'.Ā

As for $60 allegedly being the 'average' cost, well, the above plus 2 glasses of average pinot gris and a beer took the bill to $87 (after entertainment book voucher!) for 2 people with not large appetites. Reckon on $120 for most couples which is starting to get up there for what is a dining experience akin to the 1980's.

Anyone giving a place such as this a 5 rating has obviously never eaten at an upmarket restaurant (not that they deserve 5's either); it is basic family restaurant, kids friendly, but for that money there are a lot more value and yummy places to eat.

Rang up to try and reserve a table but was told I could only get a priority booking, when we arrived we were told there were no tables available so we went to the bar for a drink while we waited for a table. We stood at the bar for about 20 minutes waiting to be served and not a single word from the bar staff, in the end I rang lone star new Lynn who told me they could have a table ready and waiting. Safe to say I won't be bothering to try and actually get a table at lone star Westgate ever again. Not stoked at all, lone star new lynn on the other hand was fantastic

We purposely went in earlier 15 minutes before 6pm and successfully got a place straight away. I ordered Apache fish as the menu wrote there is dairy free option. When the food served up, saw a bowl of tartare sauce on the side of the plate. I thought it was a dairy free. Silly me . Lol. Luckily we double checked and told us it's tartare sauce . That's why the kitchen put it a side. Then the waitress straight away took it off. šŸ˜…That's the hiccups we had for today. Otherwise the stuff is friendly and efficient service.

Have been here numerous time and always have a great experience, food great and the staff are always happy and helpful! Excited to say that I'm now a Deputy and will definitely be coming back for more points šŸ˜Š

Lone Star has always been one of my go too places since I cannot get enough of the Johnny Cash Stash - it is simply divine and the best chicken I have tasted. The dessert menu is alluring and intoxicating. All meals are very healthy in portion and the kiddies get an awesome menu too. With their latest app for rewards this place needs to be one of the regulars.

Really enjoyed my meal here - love the KIWIFRUIT cocktail - seriously good! Its a shame the premises is so dark! While the meals are fantastic I really struggle to enjoy my dining experience in such a gloomy atmosphere. It would totally work if the entire place was a little lighter! Just my opinion though! I will still be coming back here to eat!
Heydi Knox
I recommend you make a reservation as seating could take a while ,but there's a bar that you can wait at till seating becomes available, friendly staff food came out fast big portions yummy dessert selection good food
KM
Dined here with 9 friends for dinner. Customer service was good and also the ribs I ordered was yummy and very filling considering I chose the 6x portion option. Quality food for a good price I felt. We were seated in the larger back seating area. It was so noisey and obviously busy for a Saturday night so next time we dine here, we'll ask to sit somewhere else just because the hustle and bustle was a bit much.

The food and dessert are fabulous!!!

We came here after work for dinner. There were spacious parking outside and tables available although we didn't make a booking. Unlike other branch, we don't having to be in the waiting list. We were greeted and seated and food came in acceptable time after we ordered them. We had prawn star, sirloin steak, apache fish and buenos nachos. We all love and enjoyed our food.

After our main, we all had desserts. The banoffee pie is great with banana and thick chocolate. Creme brulee is always my favorite but I didn't regret at all to have the banoffee pie and will definately come back again just for it! I would also want to try other dessert in their menu because they are all tempting.

It would be great if they can expand their range in vegetarian and salads because there are some days we would like to eat more healthy and feel less guilty :P

Staff are very welcoming and friendly so that's another extra points. We really enjoyed our night there. There are a few of them who are new who needs more training when it comes to serving customers. But overall it was a good experience.
Nazar
Wow. Greeted promptly, seated at a nice table for two, did not feel rushed to order, wonderful atmosphere. Drinks came out minutes after order and then our starter (redneck ribs). 10 minutes after finishing our ribs the mains came out, I got shank peninsula x2 and my partner got the John Deer both of which looked just as good as they tasted. I couldn't quite fit dessert in, but we ordered one anyway because of the app special at the moment.

So happy to skip the drive to New Lynn for a night at Lone Star - same great food, better decor!! As always my favourite Mango Margarita was at my side and the Pork Loin was tasty and crunchy, albeit a tiny bit dry, cant be helped with a larger portion however! Tasty Gravy and Apple more than makes up for it. Will come many more times I'm sure.
Janice McCartain Dagg
Been wanting to try this one out since I found out about its existence. No more driving to New Lynn! The ambience and interior decoration are spot on. Really makes you feel like you are dining on a Ranch in a restaurant in Texas (though as yet I have not been to Texas, but I imagine it would look similar to this). Prompt and super friendly service. Our waiter introduced himself, and read out the specials, and was patient with me humming and harring over wait to order. Starter=Ribs! The best ribs ever, I really do enjoy these, they are well seasoned and decent size portion. Main=Thought I would try something different instead just ordering my usual likes. Picked the Burrito Rancho. So glad I got it too, it was so tasty and incredibly filling. I forget the portions are generous. Ate 2/3 and got the rest to take home. Desert= To fill to eat any, though the dessert menu looked delicious. Drinks=Bounter Hunter Cocktail. Reminiscent of a mud shake, delicious.

Cost=Mine totalled about $55, which for me personally is pricey. But sinceĀ I don't eat at fancy restaurants that often and the quality and portion size is amazing, I don't mind paying it for the odd occassion.

P.S I thought it was really nice getting a personal note on our bill summary and some Jelly Beans., no end to the great service this establishment offers. There is only one improvement that I would suggest to get that 5 star rating from me; we were seated in a booth/chair arrangement and I was seated on the chair. It was hard wood and after 1.5 hours it was getting uncomfortable. I'd recommend putting some cushions on those seats. That would round out the perfect dining experience to me.
Lillian
Decent family friendly restaurant. We ordered a range of starters to share - loaf, prawn star, ribs and one of the special of the day: mussels in white wine, cream and garlic. Whilst the loaf and prawns weren't what I expected - the loaf is different than what I have had from Lone Star (albeit a long time ago) and prawns were not as big as I imagined but they were all really yummy. The garlic, chilli sauce the prawn was in was define and the rice complemented well. The ribs, although a bit sweet than what I usually liked, actually got pretty addictive after a few bites. The mussels were also in a delicious sauce, served on a shallow plate. We finished our meal with the Kahlua and Moro Bar cheesecake - fairly delicious, but I was too stuffed to enjoy it properly.Ā
The service was great, the friendly casual approach Lone Star is known for. They also look like they had great kids menu judging by our neighbours' tables.Ā
Big restaurant, a bit dimmer than what I liked but good atmosphere.

Customer service is good šŸ¤“ food is good šŸ¤“ great experience!
Have been there several times, I love the midnight nachos šŸ˜
Lovely area, nice decor but the lighting is a little bit too dark.
Alex
Terrible service!

We have high hopes in this newly opened lonestar at Westgate, but gosh, so disappointed!

When we arrived the restaurant no one to greet us, even no one to seat us. The staffs seems does not want to work here at all, I can see waitresses were talking together at the corner.

We waited waited and waited, after ages, finally, there is someone to seat us. We had salmon, ribeye and shared a banoffee pie. My husband said the steak he had was quite watery. The salmon and banofee pie were both good, but not remarkable.

One thing made me really annoyed is we were seated opposite to the bar, but while we were having our meals the waitress sent two people to seat at the bar. The space between is too narrow!Ā Almost every single person walking passing through hit my chair.

To be honest I thinkĀ the waitresses here might need an attitude adjustment. Also it's overpriced based on my personal experience.

Veena
Not good. Food not come. Still hungry. Bad service. Dirty glasses. So not good. We're made to wait over 40mins if not longer for our meals that were average. Please work on this.
Rochelle Holland
Really friendly and attentive staff- they made sure we were enjoying our meal.
Delicious food- I had the Prawn Star as a main and loved it.
Nice decor, more spaced out than the one in New Lynn.
