Review The Dairy - Auckland Central

Karl Rock
Quality ingredients and amazing burgers! Their burgers are great, steep in price - but worth it! Shakes and Kumara fries are perfect too. It’s one of the best burger joints in Auckland. We had the Old Smokey ($20), Kumara Fries ($11), and Chocolate Shake ($12).

I came here recently for a dinner out. I had been craving burgers and I was definitely not disappointed here. The burgers are pretty big and juicy. These are not your typical frozen patties that you get at fast food restaurants. I really enjoyed mine. I was also pleasantly surprised that I could order not only curly fries, but also a chocolate peanut butter milkshake. Needless to say I left very satisfied and full. Service was good and the waitress was working really hard when we came in. Next time I'm craving burgers this will be the first place I think of!

Yummy! I had the special burger with truffle whipped feta, crumbed mushroom, tomato jam and spinach and WOWZA! SO GOOD! We also got haloumi fries which were delish. My partner got the mcfly chicken burger and said it was tasty too. Thanks Burger Burger! Great lunch. 😁

Cute location, friendly staff & yummy food. The selfmade lemonade could’ve been sweeter, it just tasted like soda water with a squirt of lemon and unfortunately I had a little dirt on the outside of my glass (you can kinda see it in the picture - on the left side of the glass).

Online order got Kiwi Classic, fish tacos, wedges, halloumi sticks n raspberry milkshake. Milkshake was good creamy and right amount of raspberries, the burger was also good not the best but good enough from the meat to the buns it was juicy and delicious. wedges was wedges not a fan of the truffle dip but it's okk. I think it was a wrong choice to get fish tacos in a burger place just a matter of personal taste. I did closed my eyes just to buy the halloumi sticks as I love halloumi it is pricy but underwhelming I was thinking more of a crunchy breading with a nice bite of halloumi just not my style. might try to order again but not something I would crave and look for.

My favorite burger place in Auckland. Always busy busy busy but service is always attentive and friendly. Personal favorite is the ol smokey burger or a big mat for overkill. Their patties are always on point, nicely charred on the outside but medium well on the inside (as requested). Their sides are 👌, curly fries always a staple side.

One of the best chicken burger I had today for lunch. It was so good. Especially the chicken. So yummy 😋. I would love to visit that place again. Thanks to my friend who recommended me to try the burger. I arranged a local guide meetup at this place and everyone loved this place. It’s quite busy in weekends during lunch time.

A bit pricey but delicious.

The food and the service were amazing! We ordered special combo for 2 ! Classic beef burger and chicken burger with shoestring fries. The best burger I have had in Auckland. The recommended beverage must be old fashioned lemonade 🍋🍋 the outdoor dining was warm and cozy enough

What a great place for wonderful menu in cozy atmosphere. Great food and great service. Well maintained and well behaved staff. Lucky to meet staff, head chef and owner of restaurant. Me and my family loved it. Even at their Commercial bay outlet, treatment was very good 👍

Fantastic dining experience! We arrived for a late lunch and were sat and served straight away. We ordered a double cheeseburger and fish burger with curly fries and two shakes, salted caramel and vanilla. Everything was absolutely on point, quick, served hot and so tasty. We will be back! Thanks.

Beef patty was juicy and broccoli for side was pretty tasty. I was able to order my beef to be medium rare, which was a big plus. Staffs were very friendly and they had open kitchen so I enjoyed watching them making my burger :) They seem to have decent drinks menu too. I took one star off because some of items on the menu were not available. And fries was a bit too salty although I liked its crispiness.
Robert Ruenitz
We had burgers: Vege, Kiwi, Fish. Two out of three were big messes, but all were delicious.

Great customer service and burgers were yummy az! Definitely would recommend if your deciding to have burgers in the area.

Highly recommend!
We came here for dinner and ordered the fondue and the poutine.
The two ladies behind the counter were absolutely wonderful and very helpful with our orders.
The fondue was amazing, though they had turned our flame up to high and it burnt a little.
The poutine is something I am going to remember for years. The gravy had amazing flavour and plenty of it so the potatoes were drowning in it. The cheese curds melted perfectly and the brisket on top was fall apart good.
We will be back for more poutine.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place no longer seems to be the same one everyone was raving about before. The menu does not look the same anymore.

Overpriced below average quality and quantity handcut chips: $8.90 for this amount and the fries came broken off. Tasteless without the sauce.

Service - very very poor.
1. Fries took well over 20 mins to arrive
2. Lady server messed up everyone’s order because she did not record down who ordered what??
3. Lady server does not seem to know what’s on their menu. We ordered handcut chips - she went huh? We ordered passionfruit cider, she didn’t even know they sell it, until I showed her the card that was on every table. 🙄

Looking for a new dessert place and came here on a Saturday night.
Wasn’t too sure what kind of desserts they would have but as soon as I saw their dessert section I knew that I’d made a good choice.
We ordered the Apple Churro and Toasted Brioche S’mores.
Bother we’re AMAZING and would definitely come back to try their savoury dishes as well.
Highly recommend coming here on a date after dinner since you sit outside and has a nice atmosphere.
Staff were really lovely and friendly too:)
my second visit here and I loved it more than the first! the first time I came I got chocolate ice cream and two chocolate cookies which was just too much but this time I tried the mint ice cream and chocolate peanut butter cookies with candy floss! The candy floss was more Persian style than your typical store bought stuff and it was all the better for it. The choc peanut butter cookies could have done with a bit more peanut butter flavour which is the only reason why I’m not giving this a 5/5 stars.
Briana
Saturday night. Feeling like a treat. Something naughty. The Dairy it is.
We ordered the salted caramel milkshake, peanut butter milkshake, poutine and The Virgin melt.
The milkshakes were nice, but the salted caramel tasted more like peanut butter than caramel.
The poutine was nothing to scream about. The chips pretty ordinary and the cheese in small little clumps, lacking the over indulgent cheese mound I was pining for. The melt was much the same degree of ordinary.
With as much choice around, a second visit is unlikely.
Hansi Dissanayake
Ordered the Brioche s’mores for dessert and oh my goodness it was amazing. The perfect dessert for the cold season, so warm and toasty. The brioche has a beautiful crunch and the inside has warm banana and caramel popcorn! The drizzle of dark chocolate was the perfect compliment to tie everything together, sweet but not sickly. A very beautiful dessert, can’t wait to come back and have it all over again!

Tried an ice cream sandwich from here after having dinner. I chose a caramel chocolate cookie and red velvet cookie with chocolate salted caramel icecream. They even top it off with candy floss. Everything was delicious!

$12.50 is a little more than I'd like to pay for a ice cream sandwich but it was definitely worth it.

This guys are crazy, fun and so adorable we loved our first visit. Kim was amazing with her job super likes for her, will recommend this place for every mood.
N will really visit them tomorrow n day after n after n after!!

The staff at The Dairy really know how to treat their customers in a very friendly, personable manner! Despite all the amazing cookie sandwiches and other food, this was what actually stood out for me the most. It's really hard to find places where you can have a good quality conversation with staff.

I've only had the Kapiti icecreams here as I always come after dinner in Ponsonby Central and I'm too full for something bigger. But I will definitely be back to try their Melts, cookie Sandwiches and Soda when I have a little more of an appetite :)

I would recommend 'the Dairy' to anyone. Loved it!You'll see me again soon.

I got the Napoleon melt....slow braised free range pulled pork, beetroot relish, coleslaw, old edam , gherkins and chipotle aioli. Amazing
Bryan
I am giving here a 4.5 as have never tried thier ice cream sandwich , ( now that's real self control for you....so tempting it sounds in other reviews!!) but no doubt but the look and sound of it this rating will change to a 5 when i do eventually try it. Anyway the big reason we came here was for the cheese melts ( i love love cheese ) and more so these creations they conjure up here. The service is nice and friendly , and we ordered the Classic Monsieur melt......free range ham off the bone, gruyere cheese, dijon mustard with bechamel. My other half ordered the Napoleon melt....slow braised free range pulled pork, beetroot relish, coleslaw, old edam , gherkins and chipotle aioli. And we also had some hand cut fries. The fries came out first and were just as i like them , nice and chunky, cooked just right and just enough salt on. Then came our melts. Delicious as i always say when is worthy of it. And for me even more so as the cheese was melted just enough to be dripping out a bit. Perfect. If it was not dripping out a bit it just would not have been the same for me. The ham and all the other ingredients were put together just right . It did not matter that maybe it fell apart a little ....delicious!! As for the Napoleon i was told it was equally as good though a bit much for her. I did sample some of the pork and it was tasty. All in all i would reccomend to anyone and we'll definetly have to try the ice cream sandwich next time.
Georgie T
To die for hangover cure melted cheese toasted sandwiches on brioche. Had the mozzarella, basil and tomato one. Delicious and fresh. Only downside was that the bread got a bit soggy by the time I'd gotten to the end of it. Huge! Good feed

Second time here, love the atmosphere. Food is great, love the grilled cheese sandwiches and mac and cheese balls. Although, a bigger courtyard /seating area would be awesome!
Mujtaba Ahadi
Overpriced and the cookies tasted very stale. Also the ice cream cookie was wrapped in baking paper which didn't help to prevent the ice cream from melting and dripping onto my clothing. Only got about half way through the cookie ice cream before I threw it away.
Tara
Food: Toastie melts were better than expected, full of flavour and very filling. I had the Classic Monsieur, and recommend a try. Filter coffee hit the spot.

Service: Great! Chatty, friendly and just warm & welcoming all round. They threw the heaters on for us outside without asking - it's the simple kindness that goes a long way!

Would come back to try a different melt if I'm in the area.
Jessica
You should defiantly try an ice cream sandwich from here for sure! You can choose between 2 different cookie flavours in-between a yummy ice cream. A bit awkward to eat but hey, that's okay. The only thing people will judge you on is "dam I wish I had one of those" My personal favourite combo is double chocolate chip cookies with mint ice cream in the middle. My next goal is to try the brownie ice cream sandwich...now that sounds like a good time.
Seamus M.
Have been dying to visit! Was very excited to try the salted Caramel milk shake! It was yum, with honey candy floss. Thought it was weird at first but it was different. My sister got the cookie sandwich it was nice. I think I would prefer the cookie sandwich.
The lady that served us was very nice!! Love good customer service 😁
Carmen Yong
Really nice place in the middle of ponsonby central! I would recommend that you ask the staff which flavours would go well together because the ice cream and cookie combo I got did not taste good at all :( however got a good picture out of it (for all you instagrammers 😂)

We were on our way to burger burger and were halted in our tracks by delicious looking sandwiches at the dairy. They looked toasty and full of meat and the chef talked us into it, convincing us it was better than our fav burger joint. And he gave them a good run for their money! We shared a pulled pork, which was so full of juicy tender meat and a tangy slaw and the classic croque, champagne ham falling out the sides with a creamy white sauce. The macaroni balls were well seasoned and tasty, deep fried pasta can sometimes be a bit bland but not these. We were hugely full, even had to by pass the cookies and ice cream. Would definetly go back
Jemimah
Visited for a light dinner after having seen their savoury menu on a prior visit.

We ordered the root chips which were sadly disappointing, laced with grease, not very crisp and bland.

We also ordered the buffalo wings. I personally didn't like them. They had a "dark" flavour to them, only nice when rated with the sauce provided.

However do try their cookies! The dark chocolate sea salt is quite nice. Shall return to try the grilled sandwiches.
Marggie Pascua
Love their Apple churros and of course their ice cream sandwich. I think their cookies are absolutely huge, worth the price but I couldn't finish it because it was too big. Love the variety and the flavours as well.

We had lunch here; had the bad boy meat ball and the virgin toasties along side a beer and a latte.

Both toasties were good and filling. Meat balls were medium rare juicy and well seasoned. Both toasties were topped with its suited cheeses. Breads themselves were great and could be enjoyed separately.

Slightly pricey for a toastie $14-16 each, but i guess its Ponsonby prices.

Not enough seating was another issue.

3.5 Yums
Pretty cute little place in Ponsonby for a quick dessert. It's nice but it was quiet hard to eat and there wasn't much seating outside but very Instagram worthy ;)
Ellie
Finally gave this a go after seeing photos of them on Instagram. I had affogato ice cream in between a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate caramel cookie. Ice cream and peanut butter cookie were good but I thought the chocolate caramel cookie was a little disappointing. It was hard and there was very little caramel.
Will definitely go back again but probably not for the chocolate caramel cookie.
Mat
Came here for dessert after dinner. The guy who served us was nice and patient :)

I ordered a salted caramel chocolate mousse type of dessert and found it to be quite delicious! I couldn't finish it because the portion size was massive. My friend ordered an ice cream and it looked like she thoroughly enjoyed it... We also shared this chocolate caramel tart and found it to be quite nice :) next time I will definitely try out the smores!
G
Absolutely delicious. You can definitely tell that it's good quality stuff. Great service too, I wasn't sure what combination of cookie and ice cream to get and they told me all their recommendations. My friend got a raspberry lime sorbet soda which was apparently just as good!!

What awesome service I was given! My friends were all eating dinner in Ponsonby Central the other week, but I felt like a sweet treat so I headed towards The Dairy. The Dairy during the day comprises of a cafe, deli and ice cream parlour, at night however the Deli and cafe close. I got to chatting and was served by the owner and the owners' daughter! Such a lovely family. I was after something specific and they were happy to accommodate my weird dessert request- I craved their popular ice cream sandwich.. But also was very eager to try their s'mores as well... Therefore, they thought up a combination of the cookie from the ice cream sandwich, along with the marshmallows and banana from the s'mores, heated it up, and I was given an unbeatable, one-of-a-kind, made-with-love dessert creation!! The only downside to The Dairy being there is no specific seating at night times when only the ice cream parlour is open.

Overall, would definitely recommend trying their infamous ice cream sandwiches made with cookies of your choosing, as well as the brioche s'mores.. And if you want, can negotiate a dessert that combines both!
L G
I got the affogato ice cream together with the triple chocolate. I was expecting it to be too sweet but it was just right. I got it cut into half because i it was just a treat after dinner which was more than enough. Staff was friendly fast service

A really cute little spot in Ponsonby for all you sweet-tooths like me! I'm a sucker for all things sugary so I love this place.

I've actually only ever had the oh-so popular ice cream sandwhich - the cookies were a bit hard as I was expecting a soft, doughy cookie to bite into so it was a bit difficult to eat, however they use kapiti ice cream which is delicious and the cookie itself is really good too. I also love the use of candyfloss and nerds on top for a pop of colour and extra sugary sweetness - Yum!

Definately worth a try if your craving something sweet, portions are large so share with a friend!
Gemma
This is a cute ice cream parlour located in Ponsonby central. They sell dessert milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, Kapiti ice cream and much more! I've had a brownie ice cream sandwich with cookies and cream Kapiti ice cream! It was AMAZING!!! I literally danced for joy! The soft fudgy brownie, with the creamy cold ice cream sandwiched in between and drizzled with a chocolate sauce was pure heaven! They also sold donut ice cream sandwiches and cookies ones, where each cookie can be different. They had flavours like chocolate caramel, peanut butter, orange and pistachio, and many more! I had to come back here! And i did!

My second time here i knew i wanted an ice cream sandwich, but the flavours of the cookies and ice cream were so hard to choose from! the lady was very patient with me and let me try the ice cream flavours. After hours of thinking, I finally decided to get a hokey pokey cookie and a chocolate caramel cookie with lemon grass and ginger kapiti ice cream! I was so worried about choosing flavours that went well together, but in the end it didn't even matter! it tasted amazing no matter what! The first bite into this sandwich was messy but divine! the combination of the crunchy sweet cookies and the refreshing delicious ice cream was spectacular! It was so hard to eat though. As you take a bit into it, the ice cream squishes out the sides and to the bottom. Luckily it was wrapped in paper, but it was still leaking out a bit. The thick crunchy cookies were delicious with the ice cream, but they were even yummy on their own. the hokey pokey cookie was my favourite, while the chocolate caramel was thick, and had a few hard chunks of solid caramel in it. I ate the ice cream really fast because it was melting and messy, then ate the cookies by themselves.

Overall it was a delightful experience. It was my first time having a cookie ice cream sandwich. It was $7.50 and they also offered for me to have candy floss on top, but i thought it'd be too sweet. However, I've seen the pictures, and it looks pretty cool! i'll always love this place, and the numerous flavours they have to offer! Next time i want to try their dessert milkshakes!

Been seeing pictures of these all over instagram and I finally got to try it out myself! It's a very unique concept, the whole cookie ice cream sandwich with candy floss is quite a cute idea. The ice cream was good although the candy floss didn't taste as good as I expected. I got the coconut chocolate cookie and the double chocolate one. The coconut chocolate cookie was soft and chewy although the chocolate one was too hard and sort of a bit stale. It costed me $8.5 in total, which is not bad considering how big the cookies are but I would prefer fresher cookies next time.
Sheena
Delicious ice cream sandwiches! Choose two cookies and your icecream flavour and they make it for you! There's also an option of fairy floss on top which just adds a little extra to the ice cream sandwich. It's also HUGE. I've never been able to finish one, and my icecream usually melts before i can finish it! Love the concept though, and I'll definitely be back.
Adeline
I ordered the ice cream sandwhich- gingernut ice-cream, with salted caramel and dark choc cookie. The ice-cream was delicious, but the cookies were hard to chew...i ate the ice cream, and i took the cookies home and heated them up in the microwave (they tasted yum warm).

Great place for a sneaky treat. I can't leave Ponsonby central without having something from here. The dairy serves a wide array of flavors of Kapiti ice cream which can be served in a cup or, if you're feeling up to it, as a HUGE ice cream sandwich. These cookies aren't any old cookies, they're homemade, chunky cookies which you can mix and match to make your ice cream sandwich that much more special. The toasties look amazing - it's the next thing on my bucket list to try. Give this place a try when after dinner in Ponsonby central or for a treat whilst browsing the shops....
Helena Chen
Awesome ice cream sandwiches post dinner out in Ponsonby. The cookies are huge and delicious, and Kapiti ice cream is always a good time. Apple crumble & Doris plum are two favourites, but honestly they're all great! The only issue I have with this place is that I've come here multiple times, only to find that it was closed. I suppose I really should have checked their opening times, but I do wish they would stay open later as late dessert cravings are a thing!
Victoria
Best cheat day treats. Ice cream sandwiches are generous in size and hit the spot. Lots of other things to choose on the menu too, nice location. Great if you're after something sweet.
Bizcochito
Big range of biscuits to choose from.. We had peanut brownie and choc caramel biscuits + affogato ice cream for our ice cream sandwich. Great ice cream.. Biscuits, not so much. Too thick and hard for an ice cream sandwich and not particularly fresh. They need to use thinner, more soft biscuits a la Moustache. The flavours were good though.. Just needs a little work.

The term "Dairy" reminds me of running along the road towards our local corner shop in order to spend all my pocket money on a packet of sweets.

It turns out not much has changed. The Dairy in Ponsonby Central allows us to re-live those fond childhood memories in an old fashioned, nostalgic way.

Owned by the same folks that run neighbouring café Foxtrot Parlour, you can expect the same quality of service and food in both establishments.

Well known for their Ice Cream Sandwiches, The Dairy uses Kapiti ice cream to ensure you enjoy the best of the best.

With friendly staff and an atmosphere created by the surrounding Ponsonby Central area, The Dairy makes for the perfect afternoon sweet treat retreat.

Additionally, the Dairy is open until 10pm so picking up some sweet goodness can nearly be any time of day!

Sarah Reynolds #Challenge

Love The Dairy! They have a very good selection of cookies and ice cream, as well as ice cream cookie sandwiches, which you could choose to have a topping of candy floss. So cute!

Yum!! Came with friends after they said i must try the ice cream sandwich! Did not dissapoint! Put me in a food coma! The cookies are nice and chunky and a few flavours to choose from too! The ice cream was aslo yum but there wasnt many flavours i was that keen on! The lady let us try majority of them and was really nice and chatty and telling us reccomendations! She also toke a photo for us aswell with our sandwiches which was nice! She let us have half and half with the ice cream aswell which was a bonus as my friends couldnt decide! Defo would come again for another one, just not after lunch as it was too much haha!

Have only been here for the renowned ice cream cookie sandwich so far, which was well worth the trip to satisfy a sweet craving. Choose your cookie flavours, and ice cream flavours, as well as toppings to make a sandwich of creamy ice cream between two crunchy, chunky cookies! Yum, and hard to say no to when passing by ponsonby central.
Aj Maglaqui
Amazing food and best of all amazing staff ☺️ such hospitable people and so lovely! The food was really good, the grilled sandwiches and the drink were really good, the ice cream sandwiches here are amazing also! Cute little place with a rustic look to it, food came quite quickly also. I love it ❤️
Vangirl
There's many flavour to choose from both ice cream and cookies. It's just amazing!
Even in winter, they had heated seat and blanket.
I will be back for sure :)
Eden Howard
So yummy! The ice cream at the dairy is so amazing. If you have never had an ice cream sandwich you need to try it! They also have very good milkshakes. I am never disappointed after a trip to the dairy
House Of Eats
If you require a treat on a hot day - this is the place. I would say Dairy has created a Ponsonby's take of the original Kahuna. Your choice of two large cookies, layered with your pick of Kapiti ice cream and toppings as desired. My favourite is the candy floss hair, super delish, but not at all friendly to the hips, in this case I just order a half serving, which the staff are more than willing to offer . Must try people
Mikayla Plaziuk
Love how they've made their name for their delicious ice cream sandwiches and then you go and find out they offer so much more. Cute area & lovely staff! Ice cream sandwiches are delish!
WeiTing Ashley Shyu
The Dairy does the yummiest ice cream sandwiches. I like how they have options for toppings as well. The Dairy reminds me of my childhood days. It has a really cute vibe. It's a lovely treat after a meal in Ponsonby as its situated right in Ponsonby Central.
Annette Wong
Use to love coming here regularly for dessert. Recently came with my partner for sorbet and was given the smallest scoop ever. Didnt even cover 1/2 the cup container given
Very disappointed. Will not be returning
Sarah Hafidh
Cute quirky cafe! Only problem is the seating area, usually very busy and most seats are taken up! Besides that, absolutely love it :) highly recommend the ice cream soda drinks
Tami T
I came here for the cookie ice cream that I saw everyone sporting on Instagram! At the time, they didn't have the cookies I wanted, so my experience wasn't as fulfilling as I was hoping it to be. However, the ice cream made up for it and I was on my way to cookie ice cream heaven! It was definitely delicious, but probably not something I would rave about :-) Would love to try their savoury menu some time!
Maria
I saw a few pictures of the ice cream sandwiches they sold here on Instagram and thought that this would be my next food stop. It also had a pretty good reputation on Zomato as most people seem to really like it. I knew that the dairy was a popular place due to the high ratings and good reviews. I had an ice cream sandwhich for $7.50 where we could choose 2 cookies (it can be the same or different) and one flavoured ice cream as a filling. The price wasn't too bad but I would still rather buy it for a much lower price. The two cookies I chose were both m & m cookies and the ice cream I chose was the black current and blackberry ice cream - this I really loved! The only toppings they had at the time were nerds candies so I chose to add as a topping. I thought that they also had candy floss as a topping (really hoped for this but oh well) but the ice cream sandwhich was still really good with the nerds candies. I wish they had added more of it though on my ice cream. I chose the black current and blackberry ice cream because I'm a huge fan of berries and I also didn't want anything too sweet or too soury. It tasted almost perfect for me! We actually had a test sample of the other ice cream available to see taste which one we liked the most. I thought that it was the best and that it would go well with the cookies. The m & m cookies looked really nice and they also tasted great as they weren't overly sweet. The cookie texture wasn't brick hard but it was still pretty hard to bite in to. The cookies are also a reasonable size so more points for that! Tip: Don't eat it like a normal sandwhich. The ice cream will get squeezed out so you're basically pushing out the good ice cream. This eventually leads to it overflowing on the tissue or whatever you're holding to and it will just go to waste. Also another few tips: Don't wait long enough until the ice cream melts because it will drip over your hands, your lap and on the table. Eat the ice cream first and then eat the cookies. (The cookies might be drenched in ice cream but it makes it less harder to eat!) And lastly, don't buy the ice cream sandwhich if you're full/very full. You'll feel very sick especially with the two sort of big cookies. I would definitely come back with a less full stomach and on a less hot and humid day. It pretty much made me feel much cooler despite the scorching hot temperature! I was really upset that I didn't get to finish 1/4 of the other cookie.
Rachel
Visited 'The Diary' to try their ice cream sandwiches! This is my first time here. The place looked professional and interesting with a lot of food and drink on the menu. The staff that served me was friendly and had patience as I tasted different flavours that I could choose from. I noticed a good range of ice cream flavours and cookies to choose from.

I decided to try m&m cookies with triple chocolate in the middle and topped with nerds. Sadly they didn't have candy floss topping the day I visited. The ice cream sandwich tasted nice and sweet! However you cannot eat it like a sandwich. It is too thick and the ice cream will spill out if you try. I found out that trying to find a way to eat it was the hard part. It also costed $7.50 and I think that's a little over priced. Overall I quite like the place and intrigued to visit again to try their other options.
Monica
Ahhh upon hearing The Dairy's namesake my mind is zapped down memory lane; walking to the trusty corner store to grab a cheeky lolly bag before dinner without mum's knowledge. Years later and now you can grab a cheeky ice cream sandwich topped with fairy floss and nerds without mum's permission from this Ponsonby outlet. I love the unique idea and aesthetics, and it tastes pretty decent but for $7.50 nothing extraordinary and I feel the combo is a bit decadent for me. Also my friend once commented it looked like a hair taco. The remainder of the menu entails brekky, meats, cheeses and Kapiti ice cream based desserts; the ice cream sodas are fun and apparently the vegetable crisps are a must try.

For more reviews around Auckland follow @adl_taste_akl on Instagram!

Ice cream sandwich heaven!
The only issue is choosing between a brownie, doughnut or cookie sandwich.
The selection of ice cream flavours is a tiny but limited, but what they do have on offer is worth your pennies.
You're in for a sugar overload and a great spot for Ponsonby people watching when you visit The Dairy.
R
Ice cream sodas were the first treat to grab our attention.

We ordered Black Doris plum and lime. Topped with candy floss, it was delicious.

Sugar rush guaranteed.

The ice cream sandwiches are also a hit, and are made using The Dairy’s freshly baked cookies with a slab of Kapiti ice cream. The

combination of cookies and ice cream ensure just the right balance between soft and crunchy.

Will definitely go back again.
Michelle Tan
the ice cream sandwiches ($7.50) here are so damn good. i had gingernut icecream sandwiched between a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and white chocolate and walnut cookie and oh my god im in heaven. the peanut butter cookie was absolutely divine and so was the gingernut ice cream. amazing. the white chocolate and walnut ice cream was a little too soft and not sweet enough to satisfy my cravings but overall it was top notch. definitely coming back here for another one - the lemon and coconut cookies are calling for me.

peanut butter chocolate chip cookie 10/10
gingernut icecream 10/10
white chocolate and walnut cookie 6.5/10

I went here today with my friend to try the ice cream cookie sandwiches as we have seen everyone buying them. We really enjoyed them! I got the chocolate ice cream and my friend had the mocha ice cream. They were really nice except for the candy floss topping. It just didn't taste like the normal candy floss we eat. I recommend you don't get the candy floss if you go them.

Loved my visit to The Dairy. Wonderfully nostalgic and fun vibe. The service was great too - really friendly. I would definitely go back.
Their ice cream sandwiches were very good value for money. I got one m&m cookie and one double chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream in between. The cookies were a little too crunchy for me personally but were still pretty tasty. They were topped off with nerds and candy floss. The candy floss honestly looks like hair but is a lot nicer than the standard dense pink candy floss of my childhood! Such a generous serving size too.

TLDR: Ice cream sandwiches may become addictive if you like crunchy cookies. Even if you don't, The Dairy is still heaps of fun.

Excellent friendly service, along with creative food and drinks. The chicken burger with peanut coleslaw was generous, but the chicken itself could have been made more tasty. Overall, a great experience!

I really enjoy coming to The Dairy! This cafe brings back so many childhood memories, from candy floss to sodas to freshly baked cookies straight out of the jar! It really is a one of a kind.

First time coming here, I almost felt like a giggly schoolchild again, forever trying to decide on how many cookies I wanted and which delicious Kapiti ice cream flavour I wanted to sandwich between them.

I love that the cookies are HUGE and they come with generous amount of ice cream, which honestly makes them a bit tricky to eat as they can get very messy, but I suppose that is all part of the fun and remembering what is was like to be a kid?

Personally, I think The Dairy is great for any ages. I took my Mum once and even though she didn't try anything, she got a lot of joy out of watching my older sister and I trying to eat their giant ice cream sandwich cookies!

Highly recommend this place!

Simple and tasty.

Seriously, Ponsonby Central have some amazing treats all in one area. The Dairy is one of them, after a late afternoon lunch we decided to come here to satisfy our sweet tooth :3

The ice-cream sandwiches were our target. You get to pick what cookies you want and what ice-cream. (thought we didn't get any candy floss like others that have)

Definitely will come again regardless.

Home of the delectable ice-cream sandwich and weird candy floss.
Located in the heart of the very "happen'n" ponsonby central lies The Dairy. They have a decent range of Kapiti ice-cream which you can either have by itself (cup, cone, waffle, cookie) OR! you can make your own and choose 2 cookies, slightly warmed up, to sandwich together - nom nom nom nom...

The last time I was there, I was brave enough to have tried their candy floss on offer in a jar behind the counter. Now, with all honesty, the candy floss looks like strands of Targaryen hair (those game of thrones followers out there) It just didn't feel right eating it and it didn't compliment the sandwich.

So, if you are ever needing a hit of sweetness on a warm day, swing by and I guarantee it'll hit the spot.

I'm slowly trying to eat my way through Ponsonby Central and last weekend, my friends and I dropped by to The Dairy for afternoon tea. We managed to get a table quite quickly on a sunny Saturday afternoon (which is rather surprising) and we decided to try their ice cream sandwich.

Located on the counter are several jars with different cookies including coconut, Anzac, chocolate chip and peanuts, baked in-house and a good selection of Kapiti ice cream. The ice cream sandwiches are made when you order and you can select two different flavours of cookies. I went for a plain vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cookies. It was quite enjoyable, I would prefer the cookie to be on the chewy side which makes eating easier compared to their crunchy version which breaks away and can be a messy task.

Our ice cream sandwiches did not get any candy floss topping. My sister went earlier this month and theirs were topped with candy floss and so did the other customers after us on the day. I'm not too sure why. Good thing my friends and I are not a fan of candy floss, but it is interesting how some people got them... Perhaps it's an option that customers need to ask for when they order the sandwich?!

Like this review? Please check out my blog http://mydiningjourney.wordpress.com
Two Honest Truths
Simple concepts - good food.

Root vege crisps ($6) – these are perfect. They feature a range of veges like beetroot and pumpkin and are sliced thinly, fried and seasoned with a little sprinkling of salt. They are just too good. We couldn’t get enough.

Ice cream sandwich ($7.50) – the cookies are baked fresh and are soft and chewy. They are a delight with Kapiti ice cream and, kind of addictive.

Ice cream soda ($7.50) – this is where the fun happens. Topped with candy floss and sizzling with soda, the lime syrup and plum combination was interesting and delicious.

We sat outside and our table of food was a show-stopper. It’s all very attractive stuff.

For the full review and more photos visit: http://twohonesttruths.com/2013/08/25/ponsonby-central-the-dairy/
