Review Mumbai Express - Auckland Central

Their naan (hopefully this is right spelling) is nice. My partner was pretty impressed with their spicy chicken. The service is a bit slow due to only 2 on the floor, they did not pay attention much and i had to call them couple times until they answered me. Will comeback anyway!!!

Food is Awesome. Staff is friendly and place is adequate. I would recommend this dinning for most common Indian food.

Omg it was hot! Fresh! Yummy! Staff were very friendly even though my sister & I were still eating after their close off time. If you love Indian food & all, PLEASE! GIVE THIS A TRY! IT'S MY FIRST TIME HERE I LOOOOVED IT! KEEP SMILING YOU ALL ARE AMAZING!

Great food and prices! Best samosas ever. Just the shop could do with a small tidy around, when I last went it was a bit scruffy looking. However, it was lunchtime and this is a takeaway place as well as restaurant.

I had vegetarian for lunch from the ready to go selection , not from the menu. Great that I was able to have a taster first to make sure that I could cope with their 'medium' spicey. Price was awesome!!! $8.50 for a curry and rice - big portion. Excellent value and better than anywhere else I have seen. Staff were helpful answering my questions (as I don't know indian food that well) and it was quick service. Lovely sunny spot to relax and watch the world go by. I would go back :-)

I have visited couple of times to Mumbai Express, their food is delicious. Presentation was really good and look very professional. Most importanly food was great ! that's everyone was looking for... I don't have any bad comments about staff the way someothers had written the review. All my visits was taken care very well, you need to wait resonable time frame to receive your order. That we need to understand from business point of view as well from this kind of a restaurant due to the fact what we are paying for...Thanks again for your delicious meal....

Food was really good. Very authentic, we loved it. Would love to visit again, my wife ordered indo chinese manchurian and fried rice, she abosolutely loved it. As per her best one she ever had in auckland, for her to say that its a big thing. Good ambiance and priced little extra but thats because of the location i guess. Must try👍

Fantastic Indian food. No idea about the last 3 angry reviews. Decent service, accommodating for vegetarian/vegan, and delicious. The fresh breads from the tandoor are incredible, and almost everything else I've had has been great - aloo mutter, aloo gobi, strawberry lassi, tikka masala, etc.

Absolutely loved the chicken biryani and reshmi kebab that we ordered. Their dishes are always delicious 😋 The restaurant was clean and food was ready in approx 15minutes (went after lunch hours)

Today I had our lunch with my family . The food was amazing . The naans were very soft. The curries also delicious too. I strongly recommend to visit that place.

Quick service with decent meal sizes. The Biryani was nicely cooked and had a lot of spices and flavour. The biryani came with raita which is a must. The naan was a tad too charred and black for my liking.

This review is for their Sylvia park outlet. The food quality is really poor. Food was cold and without any taste. There was so much food color in the dishes that it turned the fingers turned red.Even the basic dish Dal Makhani was bland without any authentic taste. Won't recommend.

We started with chicken lollipop and pakora which were yummy. However we ordered lamb biryani and chicken achari for the main... the birayani was lacking bit of flavour.. we ordered medium spicy and it wasn't spicy at all either. The chicken dish was okay but probably wouldnt get it again. Though the environment is always nice and clean. Most staff are nice and friendly too ^.^

I guess the chef was in a bad mood. Biriyani lacked taste - no salt no spice. Tikka masala is bland no spice in spite of we saying it should be med-hot. A chef needs to keep all emotion aside and prepare consistent food. Hope the next time would be good if we divide to come back!

I love this place! When we are craving Indian food, this is one of our go-to places. We love the range of food on offer, the prices are reasonable and the service is always good. We especially love the fact that they are a family friendly place and are always welcoming towards us and our 2 year old toddler. We have tried most of the dishes on offer but we always order our favourite dishes- lamb or chicken sagwala and butter chicken or mango chicken with the sampler naan bread pack. We will keep going here because we always know what to expect with them 😊

Food is ok.. but I would highly recommend the owner to change its name to something else.. it's named as Mumbai Express but hostely it is just not Mumbai style. I live 20 years of my life in Mumbai and it is not even close to the food served in Mumbai restaurant, again the food is ok, staff reasonably good but just not like a restaurant from Mumbai.

Quite a clean interior, comfortable sittings and friendly staffs. Had the goat curry and chicken biriyani. Goat curry was nice and spicy. However the chicken biriyani I feel is a little lacking of flavour compare to other indian restaurants that I have been to. It also doesnt have those caramelise onion on top. The display of their food when it comes out is pretty good.

been here a few times. Food is really good and full of flavor. My favs so far are lamb achari and chickhen madras. Would recommend for those who want to enjoy food and have a good dine out with family and friends.

Went to this place in the morning at 11. They open at 11. They weren't ready on time. We waited for an hour to get served. Waiting staff came in late as well. Food is amazing. This is the best food place in Manukau mall if you want authentic Indian food but I am so disappointed by staff.

I only eat at Mumbai because it's close to work. Not my first preference. Food is ok. Not as authentic. Only a few of my Indian colleagues eat here.

Food was definitely delicious! Great portion size and very filling indeed. We had ordered butter chicken and lamb biryani that was served in a clay pot. We did wait quite some time for our order, not necessarily a downfall as I would rather the freshly cooked and made to order dishes than the reheated and old dishes.

Fine Indian restaurant at Westfield Manukau, prices are a bit higher here than other Indian restaurant but the ambiance is quite good. Taste wise it's fine but I think I prefer other Indian restaurants for my favorite butter chicken. Though their Butter Naa is great.

Grabbed takeaway Butter Chicken and Lamb Curry with rotis. Tidy and clean restaurant, prompt service and staff was ok. Food is ok ,nothing special, the spiciness of the curry is good!

We had had lunch and dinner at this new restaurant . On the first visit we ordered chaat and wraps. The chaat came out very quickly but the wraps took almost 30 minutes to arrive which is a long wait for hungry kids. Both were very good.

On the second occasion we ordered the chicken and lamb biryanis with a naan platter. The naans were served quickly but the biryanis took about 35 minutes to arrive.

The biryanis are served in claypots covered and sealed with a roti dough which is very unique and appealing.

The layer of rice on the top in the claypot was lightly spiced nice and fluffy with separate grains but the bottom layer of rice in the claypot was mixed in with loads of heavily spiced gravy which made it wet and soggy. A beautiful dish but spoilt by lack of attention to detail.
Would advise the chef to minimise use of gravy in the biryani.

The ambience is good. That's it. Too much food colour used in both the dishes ordered. In this day and age I'm not sure why so much food coloring has to be used. Both the dishes tasted odd. Won't go again, unless I see some good reviews.

***Would 100% rather recommend De Grande Haweli, it is less than 3mins away from Mumbai Express***

Service: 0/10
Staff: 0/10
Food: 4/10 ( TAKES TOO LONG)
Ambience: 6/10

Manager on duty was Mr Chamkur, it seems like he has lost his passion for the job. He ignored customers all night. Very bad service.

By far the worse Indian restaurant in Auckland.
We were one of only three tables in the restaurant but we still waited more than 45mins for food to be served when we were promised that the food would've taken a maximum of 30mins.
Everytime we call them, they looked at us then ignored. When the time concern was expressed they didn't even care.
Honestly so appalling.
If only there was a minus rating I would use that.

Food:
It was under par
Overall disgusting!!!!!!

Caught up with friends for lunch here a couple of weeks ago and was quite impressed with the decor. Classy looking place, but was nearly empty for Friday afternoon lunch time. However I now know why the lack of customers - they took too long to serve the food.
Between us we ordered the Chole Bathura, Pav Bhaji, Dahi Papdi Chaat an the Veg Manchurian. The Bathura were some of the best I've tried - large and crispy and soft at the same time. The Veg Manchurian was pretty good too probably one of the better Veg Manchurian's I've tried around Auckland. The Pav Bhaji could have used a bit more Pav, but overall it was pretty good both price and quantity wise.
Wouldn't mind going back and trying out some of their other dishes.

Have been back again and this time we tried the Puri Aloo and Chicken Tikka from the smorgasboard. The Puri Aloo was yum and good value for money. Hubby was not a big fan of the chicken tikka masala, said it was average.

Food and service at this restaurant is just horrible!!! Ordered lamb madras and chicken tikka, both were overlooked and tasteless. Service is pathetic, guy at the counter was stone faced and lacked customer service. Not coming back to this place ever. Far better indian restaurants around manukau.
Ronnie Nath
Nothing here is good apart from the decor. Food is average for the exorbitant price tag. They need to remember that they are in Manukau and there are 20 places with similar food in a miles radius.
The website menu is also misleading showing prices that are much lower than what it is in the restaurant. This looked like quite a cheap ploy to get people in.

Please avoid this place. Do some research and support other smaller places that are doing a good job in the area.
