Review Bon Ga Ne Korean Restaurant - Auckland Central

This Korean restaurant provides high-quality food with fresh ingredients. I opted for the beef sizzle, which was not only delicious but also served in a generous portion. The meat, while slightly on the tougher side, still had a great flavor. The rice was fluffy, and the side dishes complemented the meal nicely. The space, although a bit small, maintains a cozy atmosphere, and the staff members are friendly and welcoming.

BBQ SQUID WITH PORK - must have dish! A delicious Korean restaurant that was a pleasant surprise! Always saw heaps of tourists dining here, hence I didn't know whether this place would be good or not. But I can say that this is a very delicious authentic Korean restaurant! The bbq squid with pork as served on a sizzling hot plate, spicy sauce seasoning, stir fried with vegetables and complimented by a delicious smokey flavour. They served us with a generous amount of side dishes which were delicious. The staff were friendly and served us in a very timely manner as we walked in. The atmosphere is cozy and clean. Will be back again!

Totally recommend this place for authentic Korean. I had the ginseng chicken soup. One might say there’s not much flavour but I liked how the broth was not oily and had a subtle taste of ginseng. The service was excellent. Very attentive and topped up my side dishes as well.

Best Korean I have had in Auckland. The food is amazing and so is the service. The prices are great as the dishes are pretty big so it’s definitely bang for your buck - you also get complimentary sides (kim chi etc.) I ordered the BBQ pork, BBQ beef and Ttukbaegi Bulgogi (Beef noodle soup) which I highly recommend. Will definitely be returning in the future.

I couldn't tell you how authentic the flavours are, but I just know that I liked it, and I had a good time. We had tteokbokki, the sizzling plate of squid and pork, and some fried meat dumplings. To drink, we had beer and makgeolli. For what we had, I though the price was super reasonable, considering Korean tends to be on the spennier side of things. The sizzling plate of pork and squid was the winner for us. But the tteokbokki had a special place in our hearts (and guts). Really enjoyed the level spice - has a kick, but we're not dying. The tteokbokki does lean on the sweet side, but I'm not too mad. The dumplings were fried really well. And we really appreciated the fact that the whole dumpling fit inside the dipping sauce vessel - such a small thing, but such a big win for even coating of sauce. We're really getting into #makgeolli, and would recommend giving that a whirl. Slightly sweet, slightly fizzy, anf just a lovely little buzz. Toilets were clean!! What a win. Service was quick and pleasant. Would go back again.

This place was recommended to us, so it was our first time eating here yesterday and I can definitely recommend this place! Reasonably priced food, very flavourful and amazing customer service. We had the Gochujang pork belly which came with 4 side dishes (kimchi, potato, fish cake and radish) and a rice bowl. The pork was so tender, we loved the flavour and it was cooked with cabbage and onions. The dish is enough to share between 2 people. We also had the Korean Plum Liquor and that was extremely pleasant to drink. It would have been better if they offer korean fried chicken, but it wasn’t on the menu. Place was clean and really attentive & friendly customer service. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place! I can’t wait to go back and try the other dishes on offer.

There are many Korean along Queen Street in Auckland. And really glad to find this off the end of Queen Street. Food selection and choices are sufficient. They serve plain water for free. 1st and 2nd round of side dishes are free. You only pay $2 for any 3rd round. Their beef dishes are nice.

Stopped by for lunch here. The menu is fairly large and has quite a few items you don't see in other Korean places. I quite like the range of different noodles. I had the jjolmyun, a chewy noodle with spicy sauce. I really liked the chewiness of the noodles. The egg and potato side dishes are also quite nice. Nice place for Korean food even with a group. Edit the Jeon here is quite nice, flavourful and crispy. It is also quite large.

Absolutely Delicious Korean food served with very cordial service amidst pleasant music, right in the middle of Auckland CBD. The best bulgogi and pickled radish I have ever tasted. Very clean restaurant- even the water tasted so crisp and clean !

Great place with top food very well priced. Service was quick and the food was really tasty. My only slight gripe is that the beer selection does not have any hop based beer to select, all are just lagers. How about a Mac's Rock Hopper or similar? However, the fridge is small so can't accommodate a wide range. Definitely worth a visit when in the city.

I ordered the half-chicken soup/ bone broth(bangyetang) and it was delicious. It has that authentic and homemade taste to it. With side dishes and rice included in the price, it’s excellent value. The service was so genuinely friendly too. I’ll definitely be back to try more 😊

This is our second visit now and Bon Ga Ne never fails to impress us. Staff are so friendly, foods taste amazing, the atmosphere in the restaurant is clean, quiet, and spacious. We love it! It is our go to Korean restaurant in Auckland CBD🍴 Thank you guys!!! See you again soon!

Free refills of side dishes, and generous portions. Authentic taste and good availability of options. The price adds up quickly though. I recommend the spicy chicken, comes with a bowl of rice and isn't overly hot.

Big portion and generous ingredients, but the taste is quite bland for me. (I'm not Korean)

we came on a thursday night, atmosphere was pleasant, server was lovely, food was delicious!!! + the free side dish was so good! even the water was lovely and crisp. we will 100% be regulars and come back again. recommend the rice cakes & octopus 💞

I used to eat Bibibamp from there and if you are in Bon Ga Ne, I suggest u to try bibibamp

Hands down great Korean food with exceptional service. Would recommend to anyone in the city. Dined here on a Friday evening and didn’t need a table reservation. Service was prompt and food delicious

We love this place, large choice of food at a very reasonable price, kids friendly with high chairs and lovely welcoming staff. My favourite family Korean restaurant in Auckland!

Pretty decent offerings in upper Queen St. Clean premises with an interior very reminiscent of restaurants in Korea. Typical menu but what we ate was tasty. Nice banchan but jeez it was all a bit salty, seriously too much sodium. Friendly service.
Lisa
For my first try of Korean cuisine, this was not bad! I loved the service and the food was simple, affordable and packed full of flavour. The plum wine was gorgeous and I loved the pork belly. Would definitely come back again!

Some places feel genuine and homely. This felt just like that. The young lady and guy serving us were friendly, authentic and efficient. Very happy to get us seconds and just generally nice. The restaurant was surprisingly empty when we went. The food quality is hit and miss, but I ordered something a bit weird and it's a mission to find fresh tuna in Auckland so no hard feelings. Overall a really good Korean place.

I’ve been here a few times with different groups, it seems to have some popularity among a lot of people, but I’ve never quite understood why. It’s usually closing when I’m looking for a dinner in that area. The food is nice, but not amazing. A look at their menu though shows prices are a little lower than other restaurants.

Favorite place to go to for korean food! Good service and delicious food! Love their cold noodles, always order when dinning here.
Food 4/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5

Been to this place few times and never had anything to complain about except for that day when i went there the last time. None of the staffs were responding to our call bell even though they’ve walked past us several times. Only to find out ours was not working so i decided to press the empty table’s call bell behind me. The food came out fairly quickly but it looked empty and we were not pleased what-so-ever. Mind you this photo was taken as soon as they came out. Dissatisfied and Disappointed. Refuse to return.

I ordered the BBQ Squid, order was fast, almost as it was a mixed of frozen squid and premade sauce. Small portion for that price. No sauce, little vege in the BBQ.
Its Me
Very plain average Korean restaurant but then I give it a 3 star because they do open very early and do have a lot of menus to choose from and do have variety of side dishes every time I go there so

Awesome quick eats if you around the airedale / mayoral drive area. Work literally just next door on airedale. Really convenience place as they cook your food pretty quick and nice side dishes. Used to come here every week. Highly recommended and would prefer this over that green korean restaurant opposite this one any day...

Very professional and tidy.

The takeaway come with neat little boxes so don't need to worry about getting messy.

Very good takeaway food when you don't feel like eating in city. Pretty normal menu with all the common Korean dishes. Most delicious dolsot bibimbap! So much crispy rice mixed in since the temperature was perfect, toppings were delicious. Side dishes were very generous and free refill - I was so full and happy when I toddled out. Can't believe I never came by here before! Yukgejang was not very generous, however, and not recommended over other Korean restaurants in the city. Just go for the bibimbap!

One of my faves since long time! I use to go here for lunch when I use work on Airedale st. I hadn't been back for a few years until yesterday as I had moved jobs. Gotta say their food is still top notch! My husband and I enjoyed our meal very much yesterday and their side dishes are the best! Sticky rice chicken is my favourite!
Krystal Tran
The service was great but the food wasn't that nice. The food tasted alright. It lacked flavours. Their fried dumplings were nice :)) I went there on a Sunday because most Korean restaurant were closed so we tried this place out.
Winnie Chauchau
Food was lovely - bibimbap had heaps of toppings and a runny egg ❤ side dishes were great as well, with kimchi, marinated potato, tea egg and a green salad to share. You can also ask for one round of free refill of the side dishes too!

The first Korean placed in the CBD I have visited! This place always seems to be busy so allow a little wait time to get a table. Like most Korean restaurants all dishes are served with traditional side dishes, which during our visit they refilled. The portion sizes a decent and reasonably priced due to this.

We ordered the Bibinbap and the Spicy BBQ chicken with rice. The chicken definitely had a punch to it and needed some rice to balance it out, it didn't help that it was also scorcing hot served on a hot plate. The Bibinbap (vegetarian) was a little bland but once we added some sauces to it, it had a lot more flavour. They didn’t have many vegetarian options when we visited here which was the only down side to the menu, but other than that there is a good variety of dishes. The service is fast paced and the staff were focused on clearing tables and getting through customers.

I had bibimbap and my bf ordered red wine pork. Cant really taste red wine but overall it is still good. My bibimbap is amazing! We went there at 11am and it wasn't too crowded. Owner is friendly and our food were served very fast. It's located at Queen St but you need to walk further up till the lego park.

This is out favourite Korean place to eat at. The food and the side dishes are high quality. The service is also good, the people are very friendly and helpful. Always come here when craving korean food with my friends.

One of my favourite Korean places in the CBD! It does get very busy, but I've always found the stuff lovely and accomodating. Prices are reasonable, a bit cheaper than some others that I've visited, and I've loved all the dishes that I've tried. Will definitely be back.
Alina Mansuevna
Such an awesome Korean cafe. Used to go there many times and always are happy with every dish we ordered. Prices are pretty cheap while the size of the dishes is fair. Also they do give you (for free) 4 sides (sweet potato, salad, eggs in soy sauce, kimchi) which are also very yammy and they give you more if you ask when you finish. The service is always nice. Highly recommended place!!!)))
Sarah
Seriously one of best places Ive been too for Korean food.

We were seated and given menus straight away. Our side side dishes came out immediately and didn't take so long for our food to come out.
I ordered the Sundubu Jjigae which came out pipping hot!! (It was a cold night so this whet down a treat)

And also got (BBQ squid & pork) also came sizzling hot.

Staff are very friendly and attentive.
Will definitely be adding this to the list to re visit next time I'm town.
One of our fav. Korean eateries in the CBD, can get very busy at lunch/dinner time so come abit earlier to get seats. Price very reasonable and comes with side dishes. We like to order their bbq dishes, soups and pancake. They are in the $15s mark.

I love going here. So helpful with having a toddler. They even had hot water on tap for formula.
The food is awesome and a reasonable price. The entire which you get before your main is great. I love the potato in sweet sauce. I usually get the BBQ chicken or squid. A good serving and great service.
Lisa Kim
Good taste and good price. I like BBQ casserole and Ogeoji galbitang. Even coming alone, I could have at least three side dishes. The sweet potatoes are so delicious.
Josh Law
Came here for the bbq spicy chicken in rice. The sides were nice and plentiful which is nice...but no refills. The menu had a few explanatory notes on it re the sides "don't do this and that" etc. So felt a little bit restrictive. The food was a good portion but that strong Korean spicy chilli special sauce wasn't there. People raved about this place so I will go back and try something else.

My favorite Korean restaurant ❤️ One of the best bibimbap and fried chicken in town! Been eating here since 2010. This place also has great customer service, friendly and fast. I would recommend my usual orders: BBQ pork, altang soup and fried chicken, or BBQ beef, kimchi jjigae and fried dumplings. Of course dolsot bibimbap is a wise choice, super delicious ❤️ As for the hot pots/casseroles, I like their mushroom with beef and the spicy sliced pork with kimchi. All dishes are generous in size and very tasty. Moreover, I love the many small side dishes that come with the meal, especially the marinated eggs and sweet potatoes, yum 😊 The price is cheap compared to similar establishments and hasn't gone up in years. Overall a great place to dine at, i wish it were closer to my place 😂

We've been going to Bon Ga Ne for a few years now and went again last night, it's as good as ever. I had the gochujang pork belly and my partner had the sundubu jjigae, both of which were delicious. The side dishes they put out are always good, and the service is very friendly. One of a number of very nice Korean restaurants in the CBD, and certainly one of the most consistent. Definitely worth it if you like Korean food!
Tessa King
Bon Ga Ne serves really authentic Korean food with great dishes and side dishes. I really enjoyed their Kimchi Jjigae (kimchi stew), and my partner enjoyed his Beef stew. Their kimchi was great (they serve a special type of slightly more fermented kimchi, which doesn't have the tart taste).

Service was friendly and if a little slow at times.

Probably one of the best Korean restaurants in the city.
Eva Zhu
A typical Korean restaurant with wonderful service.
I had the bbq chicken, it was good but nothing really shone from the dish. The flavor hadn't really seeped into the chicken, and it wasn't sizzling at all when it came. It's one of those dishes you eat when there really isn't much to eat, and you feel satisfied not because it was delicious but because it was a decently portioned meal at a very decent price. The side dishes were... Interesting. The kimchi definitely lacked in flavor and the salad was a sad attempt at a side dish, otherwise the egg was decent, but my favorite will always be the potatoes. Was glad there were refills. All in all, a good experience.

When I went to Bon Ga Ne first the first time, I was really worried because I had never had Korean food before but my worries were for no reason. Their food is amazing and their side dishes are the best! I go to Bon Ga Ne apl the time now and I'm kind of friends with the staff there 😂 They play really good music as well (If You're Into The K-Pop Scene) They don't only play K-Pop though!
Best Korean Restaurant in my opinion.
Brave Eat
Below average Korean restaurant, Food tastes ok but not amazing. Meat is very chewing and cold noodles are crazy sour. Their soup tastes more like water and does not have that deep soup taste that I was looking for. I recommend BBQ range dishes. I did love their side dishes, which was the highlight of my visit there unfortunately.
Kirsten
Bon Ga Ne is the best Korean restaurant I have been to yet. The prices for each dish is quite reasonable. I ordered the Kalguksu, which is a seafood noodle soup. Oh my, it was so nice and delicious! The soup base was just so addicting and tasted so much like seafood. The best thing about Korean restaurants is that they always give out the side dishes! I wad so satisfied with my dish today and the service was pretty fast. Even though not many people know about this place, you all have to try it out! Most of their dishes are $12, so it's affordable! The staff are absolutely nice and lovely! I would definitely come back here again.
Everlee
Very friendly staffs and quick service. Good food with reasonable price. Please add seaweed in side dish team, next to sliced egg, kimchi and potato!!! Go Bon Ga Ne!
Luke Cochrane
Love the food here. It's really well priced and it's well worth it. All the side dishes are great too. The service is really quick and you get your orders quickly too. Definitely recommend this place!
Manu
I love this place! I Usually get the spicy pork and squid but yesterday it was soooooo much spicier than usual. I literally had to take moments to cool my mouth before eating again. I like the potato side dish though as well as the other sides. Overall I think it's a great place. The seats are probably too big to fit into the tables tho and it felt crowded as I usually sit on the lower level but for some reason it was closed. The service is good otherwise.
Zoe Huang
As usual I ordered bibimbap and my friend ordered BBQ pork, it was yum. Both of them are $12. They provided four side dishes which are OK, except for the marinated potato was a little bit too salty. They can be refilled for free. Generally it was a good dining experience. Didn't wait too long for the food. However there is not much food in the dish, we think.
Ryan
Best Korean we've had so far in the CBD. Ordered the usual pork bulgogi and squid. We enjoyed the sides it came with, good quality and variety compared to some places. Generous with the kimchi which is always a plus. Secluded and intimate atmosphere, simple restaurant but good service and food. We will be back.
Vivek
We came here in a large group and it is decent place to have lunch. The service was quick since we ordered the food before arriving in restaurant. The price of the food is average. Like any normal Korean restra salad ,eggs and sweet potato and served before you start the main course which is good !

Must try -Seafood flat noodle , Kimchi PancakeBBQ Chicken/pork with sticky rice.Chicken Gratin

All my meals at bon ga ne have been satisfactory and I know I can rely on the friendly staff for a warm welcome. I and my partner were seated by the far window table as down stairs was loud and busy at the time which was a nice change in view .

To be honest I wouldn't of seen this place if I was looking for it my first impression the staff are so friendly my friend Paul took me to lunch and 100% love it the food incredible taste and flavors are Korean Traditional prepared for customer who return again again.
Thanks Bon Ga Ne for the Korean best meal I've ever tasted.
John.

I eat here regularly whenever I'm in Auckland/miss korean food, and can't say I've ever been disappointed. They have a pretty wide selection of authentic dishes (not just western-friendly ones like hotplate bulgogi), and they serve a bunch of sides with every meal as they do in all restaurants in Korea. Service is always excellent, and food comes out of the kitchen pretty fast. I have had some friends who are actually from Korea tell me that the food isn't as authentic as the stuff they get back home, but everything I've had tasted legit to me (or maybe I'm just not korean enough).

A great restaurant for anyone craving authentic korean food in the city.
Tobi
Great restaurant, my wife and i often dine here. The taste is extremely authentic. I recommend eating here if you appreciate Korean food. One of the best in town.
Julia Porodina
This is my regular dining spot and by far the best Korean food in town. Staff are friendly, service is fast, food is AMAZING and not expensive. With such a extensive menu, there is something for everybody.
Christie
I think I've been deprived of good Korean food after many years living in London. It's tough esp when you're used to Korean food in NY.

I ordered the dong tae tang and I got a little emotional over the food. It might partly have to do with sleep deprivation after such a long flight but I would definitely go back again. And, most of the items on the menu are $12!
Ting Chong Yap
I love the beef and eggs in hot pot. Their side dishes are good too. Being here several times and will continue to come here

Big restaurant, good service, good food, but don't go when nearly close, the food quality and taste with down to 1 score. We when there couple weeks ago when it was 9:15pm the front staff (or may b owner?) advised us they were closing at 10pm. We thought that was a plenty of time, so we sat down and ordered fish role soup and pork born soup. The soups taste like they just put some chili in the boiled water. Fish role wasn't very cooked properly. Very smelly. I'll never go there after 9 again :-(
