Our favourite neighbourhood Authentic Thai Restaurant for many years now. We've brought our friends to this place and everyone loved the food and enjoyed the overall experience šŸ™‚ Food is authentic and the owner and her children are always lovely and very attentive to your needs, couldn't ask for more really. Celebrated many birthdays as well. Have recommended to friends and will continue to do so. 5/5 šŸ‘

Started with mixed entree, chicken skewer was so yummy. Enjoyed our curries, duck & beef apart from no eggplant as per menu description. Ice cream & fruit for dessert, Very reasonably priced, small place, the reason we chose it.

Two friends and I really enjoyed our meals at Mae Glong this evening. Lamb masaman, stir fried duck and red chicken curry on the menu. Followed with banana fritters for dessert and a glass of The Ned rose'. Fresh table settings, attractive decor and excellent service. Easy parking on Manukau Rd.

I appreciate this restaurant. I was walking to conwall park. At that time i had to go toilet. Asap? But i couldnt go other restarant. That restarant refused me. But this restaurant was warmed. And i went. So thanked. And even spring roll was very delicious. And service was good. Atmosphere and music was good. I want to go to thai because of this expirience. Thank you so much.

Yummy! Delicious Thai Food with Gluten Free Option. One of those Thai Restaurants, where not the whole meal is covered in oil. Very tasty Pad Thai and Green Curry šŸ˜

Great thai food with reasonable price!

Shared a delicious dinner with my mother and sister last night. A decent number of vegetarian dishes to choose from, most of the vegetarians options came with tofu, and just GREAT Thai food. In fact the best Thai food I have experienced in Auckland for a while, and at a reasonable price too. Service was excellent. Highly recommend!

Thus is some of the best Thai food I've ever had, including Thailand. Great, friendly service too! The fried snapper was excellent!

Had to find a suitable restaurant for an 80th birthday party group of 12 and left it to my uncle to recommend this treasure. The service was impeccable, the special area set aside was perfect ambience and the food was outrageously good. The lamb curry and the Panang chicken were my absolute favourites. Thoroughly recommend going to the effort to go and eat-in and you will not be disappointed. Will definitely be back soon.

Outstanding food and service. We were a group of 8 and everyone loved the food. Deep fried snapper with tamarind and also the Larb chicken were standout dishes. All up jut over $200 for 8 of us. Brilliant!

After 5 weeks in L4 Lockdown, chose Mae Glong as our take away meal, had the best reviews of all restaurants nearby. Not disappointed.Bought No's 1, 12, 24 & 25. for two. My initial thought was - Oh! not enough food BUT we're struggling to eat it all. THANK YOU MAE GLONG for our wonderful meals.

I've been here twice before for dinner and it has been great. Most recently, we had lunch here today. Panang and Green Veggie curries were amazing. Friendly staff. Portions are proportional to price paid, but worth every cent. Thanks for the great experience.

We have always received excellent service. The food is fresh and tasty and really nicely presented. So pleased that your restaurant is around the corner from where we live. Itā€™s always nice to be greeted with a big smile - thank you.

The thai food available at Mae Glong is some of the best in Auckland, with great service and very reasonable prices. Well worth the visit, but just make sure you book ahead, as seating can be a bit limited. Parking can be a bit of a challenge at times, and generally better on the side streets nearby.

Delicious food and always lovely staff. 10/10 lots of vegan options too.

A small, cozy restaurant with incredibly friendly staff and a very home-like atmosphere. Great selection of dishes that are prepared quickly.

Local neighbourhood Thai restaurant with simple but lovely ambience. Staff are friendly and the food is tasty and delicious. All bar one menu item can be made gluten free.

I had a great experience at Mae Glong last night! My friend and I were in the area to watch a movie at Lido Cinema. We both ordered pad Thai and it had chicken and shrimp plus tofu, egg, vegetables. The portions were generous and food came out quickly. Service was very good. My friend is gluten free, soy free and dairy free, the waiter listened and passed this on to the chef. He would refill our water himself. Donā€™t be afraid to ask for specific requirements because they will do them. The description says casual dining but actually inside the ambience is very nicely done laid out. To top it off, they have an A grade rating. No reason to give a rating less than five.

FOOD @ MAE GLONG - fantastic
Neighbourhood - great
LIDO cinema - so cute

Ordered pad thai for the first time through uber eats. When it arrived the container looked pretty thin so at first I thought I got ripped off, but I was wrong - there's so much in there my brother and I couldn't even finish it! Plenty of chicken, hot and fresh, and not too sweet. Really good dinner, will try other dishes next time :)

This used to be the location of the best pasta restaurant in town.

Today it is the location of the 251st best Thai restaurant in town.

There's nothing bad about it. Quite the opposite. Its exactly the sameĀ food and experience as any other Thai place you choose to eat at. Same starters, same mains, same pleasant but dull service.Ā

Only thing that was markedly different was the endless stream of UberEats drivers milling around in the dining room. If eating your meal in the company of stinky taxi drivers is your thing great, you'll probably love the place. I don't. So I won't be back.

Ordered through Uber Eats on a Friday night, got 4x entrees; vege money bags, prawn toast, prawn tempura and prawn satay. While the menu is specific about how many servings you get, they are still pitifully small and overpriced. Our four serves came to over $50 and while the quality was good, the servings were cheeky. Eg. Satay Prawn. The menu said 4x skewers but there was one prawn per skewer, so we were paying over $3 per individual (small prawn). Tasty (but certainly not the best Thai I've ever had) but really poor value.

Best Thai food in the neighbourhood! Excellent service, licensed, friendly and delicious. Smaller restaurant probably not great for larger groups. Recommend the Ruby Curry and Pad Thai.

Not a big fan of Thai food but I must say this place converted me, one of the dishes we ordered was the Pad Thai and it was great. Service was very welcoming and efficient and I loved the dining environment, not noisy at all, great place to take the family.

Food was some of the best; service was some of worst particularly for a Thai restaurant where usually go out of way to be friendly responsive and engaging as part of experience. Indeed service was so not what was expecting , thought would check other reviews and see if our experience was a one off or systemic . So interesting earnestaster appeared to have a very similar experience service wise recently with same individuals , everything from nobody to greet and having to find a staff member to nil interpersonal warmth or even attempt at usual pleasantries , and no response to signalling ,or checking back on whether needed anything; maybe they are just going through a bad phase; food however exceeded our expectations and food was delivered quickly and efficiently

Often when walking past this restaurant, I'd glimpse its discreetly lit ,inviting ambience with the glint of sleek glassware on the tables. It seemed a compact intimate space for indulging in Thai food. Across the road, the neighbouring joint would either be packed to the gills or chugging along busily. Mae Glong however seemed like it could do with more patrons. Going by the good reviews of it, I walked in one Friday night , saw that half the tables were empty and gladly hoped that service at least would be better. There was nobody amongst the staff to greet voluntarily, I had to seek them out . Two ladies dressed in Thai silks, a middle-aged one and her younger colleague, managed the front of the house.

Ambience- Muted lighting sets the mood. Tables are pretty and nominally elegant, with embroidered tablecloths set against a base of white, plates patterned with blue and cream rims, brass cutlery and a coloured mosaic vase holding a single yellow rose at each table. The ambience thus has a soft feminine appeal but is not as refined and immaculately maintained as it could be.Starters were explored with a Combination entree featuring 4 different varities..Deep fried chicken pastry with veggies, was a docile samosa, sufficiently crisp but tilting towards sweet notes- the potatoes in it discernible but the chicken was too timid a presence. The Thai spring roll, with vermicelli in it was a stalwart rendition by mouthfeel, but achieved no distinction by flavour. The skewer of marinated grilled chicken would have been an excellently cooked appetizer, but it was swathed in a peanut sauce that stifled its original taste. Redemption was finally afforded by minced prawns on toast. The seafood itself signalled no revelatory redolence of the noble crustacean spliced therein, but this again was superceded by the light and fluffy crunch of exceedingly silken toast. A single disc, or deep-fried savoury cloud of this offering, is enough to merit a desire for several repeat tastings.

Service was average from the start, be it in communication skills or in responding to a beckoning gesture. It could be pleasant when the going was good but was lacking at other times both in employing tact and gracious elegance, whoever the server was. There was not a single word of feedback elicited, inspite of the wait-staff having ample time to do so.

Seeing Thai whiskey on the menu ($8-50 per 60ml), when i asked whether this was a variety that could be tasted "on the rocks", the server was taken aback- going by her expression you'd think that I had suddenly professed a wish to smash my head on the rocks. Anyway, the drink had a pleasant bite to it, and gave a nice little cerebral hum.
Tod man pla or Thai fish cakes- The ones I ate here were no different from the take-out variety sampled from a nearby joint a few days ago. Appealing neither to the teeth nor tongue, the body of it was formed by too much egg. If the accompanying sauce of sweet chilli, brunoised cucumber and powdered peanuts had been a little more subtle, and if the fish cakes had been zestier, it'd have been a winning dish.

The Main I ate was Pad Gra Prow- roasted duck in chilli, garlic and basil. The duck was reasonably exuberant, and the caramelized shallows it rested in also nurtured onions, beans, broccoli and bamboo. 'Twas a satisfactory dish of meat with a sweet-savoury sauce, but I had actually asked for roast red duck with grapes and coconut milk when I placed the order. Unwittingly letting myself get lulled into a blissful state of inattention by the whisky, I had failed to identify my dish, presented as it was with a dense-top layer, and realized only later while eating it that the pond and plants were contrary to expectation. The young lady server, upon being told of this mismatch went to her senior colleague behind the counter to explain the matter. I could hear snatches of indignant defence from the latter who then came around and enlightened me that I had pointed my finger at the dish below the one which I wanted on the menu. Her attitude was not apologetic in the least, was in fact squarely defensive and veered towards being disapproving, like a maths teacher cross with her careless pupil. I avoid arguments whenever possible, and that night I was in no mood to prolong the debate. I concede I might have been at fault with finger-aiming and later at mis-identifying my choice, but I will also say this- any fool of a server can do the job by the numbers (besides acting deaf to the verbalized order and blithely defending one's visual perspicacity), but it takes a service-oriented mentality to go the extra furlong even if the patron has had his share of mistakes. Taking that extra bit and even stretching it to a mile makes a merely good restaurant a truly special one, but this restaurant here seemed determined to show its true colours.

The bill that night was very reasonable at a total of NZ$44. When I was wordlessly paying my bill, the same lady quietly said -"Sorry for that...thank you very much"- a classic case of damned if you apologize, damned if you don't - if she was genuinely sorry she would have replaced that dish. Mae Glong seems fine with coddling its soft but firm ego, nevermind that its occupancy isn't exactly galloping along. It still sports the prominent signage of "2008 Metro Runner-up award for Thai food". I quickly understood why the inflow was less, and why the awards had since stopped. I "sat" on my thoughts for one month, hoping perhaps that the likelihood of my return to this place would improve but it did not and later thought of the highlight of my meal here, rued the future and sighed. Sometimes in life, as the wise will tell you, exceptionally crunchy treats have to be forsaken in view of preserving self-respect.

Have eaten here frequently and also had takeaways - consistently friendly and polite waitstaff, delicious authentic thai in nice surroundings. Never have to wait long for your meal. Happy to recommend.
