Review Gengis Khan - Auckland Central

Recently came to this place for a Birthday Celebration. There were no faults in dining in & i would highly recommend this place for your next Family functions. Only thing i could fault was the parking but thats out of their hands. The place is very sophiscated with its decor. Staff were very Helpful and willing to help out with refills of our drinks. Toilets need a scented perfume to mask some peoples deadly smells lols. But other then that! I definitely would dine in again. Thanks for having us!

♿ 🚻 There is wheelchair accessible access limited parking . My group was there early 6pm when doors were open. To get a parking near venue come early. The restaurant is large in size great for large groups. Spacious enough to move around freely . A large variety of sides.. I had butter chicken and tuna 🍣 to eat with my main meals meals 😋 . Seafood choices were fantastic with fish fillit as my favourite. No need to rush even when there's a lot of people. I found the food fresh and delicious. Staff promptly clearly your plates from your tables. Most definite good value for your money.

Pretty decent price for $32 per adult all you can eat. We dined in for a birthday for a table of 15. There were 2 other birthday bookings that same night but staff did well with quick turnover of food. They were quick to refill food stations & clear plates from tables. Staff were friendly & pleasant to deal with. Kids charged from 1yr old up ($11 plus the age of child) $10.50 for jug of fizz.

Thank you so much for your hospitality. Enjoyed the fact that we were put in the corner of the restaurant and not in the center because this had helped with my anxiety. The food and atmosphere were amazing. I enjoyed the seafood range. The wait line for cooking the food was not that long to wait. But the only downfall was the cutlery not being enough and available at the time. To feed the masses. But other than that everything was perfect Thank you Team

Not the best photos I've taken and it certainly doesn't do justice for my experience here! The best place to go if you have a BIG appetite (I ate 4 plates lol). Originally had a booking and needed to cancel some people last minutes which they handled nice and quickly. Place has nice atmosphere, not super crowded even though filled with people. Buffet food was pretty good but the best one is when you get to make your own food. I recommend trying to follow their suggested sauces as they are sooooo yum! Only thing is sometimes you might feel pressure from the people behind you but take you time anyways :) Also stuff your bowl since the food shrink.. a lot haha. Will definitely come back here again!

Food was delicious, plenty of options but it took a while to get the cooked prawns again, we were patiently waiting for the container to be refilled.

Great food, except they burnt my first dish a little bit too much for my liking. However, since its a buffet, you can easily go up to make another plate :) Friendly staff, and birthday person can eat for free!

Been a while since we last enjoyed Mongolian BBQ. Such lovely customer service from the host at front counter, waiting staff, cooks. Food is delicious, fresh and plentiful! My fave tonight, the broccoli soup, mussel soup, bulgogi and two delicious spicy Asian noodle salads from the cold fridge which were yummingly tasty! Too bad I was full otherwise I would've had seconds, thirds. A really lovely, beautifully presented restaurant!! We will be back!

A great environment with variety of pre prepared dishes and you choose your own ingredients and spices for the Chef to cook. Taste is great with service.

My sister and I ate there tonight as it was my Birthday. I can honestly say it was excellent food. Yummy, tasty, clean, well-lit, friendly service with a smile. I would recommend you all to enjoy Mongolian cuisine!

This is my first time to Genghis Botany and I have to say it was okay. It's a buffet so I'm not looking for anything spectacular. However, it was a good experience overall. I went on a Sunday with a group of 4 adults and 1 child in a wheelchair. Okay I'm going to begin with the positives, 1. It was easy to book and check in. 2. Like most establishments receiving a confirmation of reservation booking the day before was nice 3. GB is fairly spacious, so a decent amount of room to move around. 4. They stagger the bookings to accommodate large groups which is smart. 5. Wheel chair accessible 6. A good selection of meats and sauces 7. A decent amount of side dishes and alternatives to meat 8. The hit chips & wedges were okay 9.Plenty of seating and tables 10. Staff are great at clearing the tables quickly. 11. The staff are friendly. Now for the negatives, 1. The establishment isn't grubby, but it's not clean either. 2. I could be mistaken but I only noticed that the cutlery was located in one area. Unfortunately that was at the cooking and dessert station which can get a little congested. 3. Some of the battered food (e.g. fish bites & chicken bites) felt like they were either left under the warming lights too long or they were from the previous serve. Either way they were extremely dry. 4. Some of the side dishes were a little below par. An example was the Mac & Cheese looked really watery and was bland, as well as the potato being under cooked in the potato salad also having no flavour 3. The free water you get is tap water and not filtered. That's not a complaint, more an observation. 5. Not many fresh salad options 6. If there is a function at the bar facility next to GB then finding car parking will be a challenge. NOT HALAL. I say this only because they were serving ham as one of the meat options and cooking it on the same hot plate as the other meats. Like I mentioned in the beginning GB is a fairly decent place to eat at ... for a buffet.

06/05 8.30pm Love the freshness of their food and their workers are AMAZING at what they do!!! It's one of the cleanest restaurants I've been too (meaning that serves buffet food).

Awesome place to eat, love the food and service is good

I think its ridiculous you charge infants under 2, who barely eat anything and you require ID for a 1 year old for a free birthday meal when you can clearly see its a baby. But then again your business would have lost a whooping $5.90 had you given my baby a free birthday meal. Stingy policy.

Food was nice as usual BUT this time we booked a table for 10 people, 6 adults and 4 children..we were celebrating my twin niece's 9th birthdays.... halfway through our meals we were questioned at table in front of everyone 3x on how old the kids were in order to make sure they weren't 13yrs over as this is when adult charges apply... the kids looked definitely their age 7yrs, 8yrs and 9yrs.... this was unexpected and totally unexceptable specially when the table next to us weren't ever questioned about their kids ages...we counted 5 kids at their table and all were caucasion including the adults....unlike us we were maori samoan cook island hmmmmm we felt very targeted and singled out... it made us parents feel very VARY UNCOMFORTABLE !! .... we definitely grilled the manager about the treatment we were getting .... unfortunately the forced apology we got was not acceptable... we won't ever come back.... NZ is rife with racism !!

We dined here on a sunday night. Very fast paced and busy. The seating area was just right for our family, very cool breeze in the hot summer. The food was excellent large variety of hot food and salad bar which sets them apart from the other gengis khans in Auckland. My family enjoyed dining here. Great hospitality and great service. Will be coming back! Thanks GK botany!!

My all time favourite buffet.
Sometimes the place is overcrowded apart from that it's fine.

Its nice to choose what i want. But some children are using hand to get lollies or chips..
Francis
Great service. Good selection of food.
Johnson
Very disappointing. Chef told the other chefs to throw the meats away because they were undercooked in front of everybody. I only had one steak and he chucked it away. I got raw meats from the burner.
Jesse
I’m never coming back. My first plate was raw, I had chicken and pork and it wasn’t cooked properly, chicken nuggets were raw, second plate was burnt and my third one was raw again. The only thing that was cooked properly were the pancakes but they were tasteless.

Good spacious environment , great place to go to when I want to go out and eat with the family and be healthy since I can customise my carbs and meats. Good place to go to if you want to pack on some muscle
Barista Champ
Please train the cashier staff. Customer service was appalling. There was no welcoming , no eye-contact, and didn't seem to be interested in engaging at all. The place is spacious and I like the part where you can create your own dish, but that's about it. No wow-factor and not enough choices on dessert.

Dined here for a birthday. Table booking service was not working so called in to book. Although it took awhile for the phone to be picked up, was greeted nicely & booking taken. Venue is located with a host of other restaurant establishments so parking can be an issue. Found myself parking down a bit further outside a Target store which was not too much of an issue. Place was quite busy on the night but staff was efficient in their work. Food variety was good - besides to meat options there was butter chicken, Mac & cheese, sushi & other ready to eat options which the kids found a treat. Had to finish off with some pancakes. The lovely waiter at the end of the night double checked our reason for dining in when paying & when we told her it was a birthday she mentioned a discount if we could show ID. Great service, one of the better Gengis Khan restaurants I've dined at. Would definitely return again in future.
Gabby
Spacious and ever-busy, it pays to dine here as soon as it opens. Standard buffet is OK but suggest if you're not great at cooking & want a guaranteed delicious hot meal cooked to order, ask friends/family about which meats, sces to put together for chef to cook. There's a great selection and once again get in early to avoid queues. Pancakes are to die for!
Karen Yeung
Came here with some friends for their birthday. The food variety is alright. True taste is of the food is fine. But the venue is great for large groups of people eating as it is quite spacious. The Mickey Mouse pancakes are a must tho!!
T
i really don't recommend Asian to go there, the foods there have nothing to do with Mongolia at all, there are not a lot of choices for you, they stir fired all the meats together which made me feel like all the meat just taste the same,it can be a little bit boring to eat plates of meats that taste all the same.
Royale Baylee
Lovely place to visit whether in a large group or a table for two. You choose what you want to eat from the raw buffet, add your sauces and oils and have it cooked for you. There is then a choice of side dishes. The pancakes for dessert with ice cream are also delicious.
Lieungsue Ngchok
Had lunch and dinner there a few times. .great family atmosphere. .and food was good for the price. Would be good if thjngs were topped up a lil quicker during peak hours and the rush. . But all in all good.
Patrick Gade
Not fancy maybe, but always great family value. Pick your meat and veg and pick a sauce recipe or design your own. Then look on as your meal is fried up on a massive grill by a rotating team of chefs. Great fun.
Charlette Taylor
Overrated to start with! Boring fry up! Over priced! The decor is as boring as the food! Surprised they are still there perhaps people find them ok but definitely not me this fuss pot!
Katrina Fineisaloi
Had dinner here last. Everything was great, food, decor and staff was great! Reception welcomed and farewelled us as we entered and left(: Food was always refilled, staff always smiling and great too with manners. My family enjoyed their night at Gengis Khan and so did I(:
Vinny
Thanks to Gengis Khan last night. The staff there were great full of smiles and attentive. Food was nicely cooked. Ate so much I didnt reach dessert! LOL.

Not happy we got there at 7:45 and by 8:15 they told us they were turning off the bbq if we wanted to get a plate before they shut off the cooker and that they were going to stop making pan cakes by 8:45pm we didn’t understand why because closing time says 10:30pm when we asked them why they said depends on how many people come in they stop cooking around 8:30-9pm 😡😡The place was full as well. By 8:45 they had turned the lights off to the buffet too and started cleaning up. CLOSING TIME IS 10:30pm SHOULD HAVE TOLD US WHEN WE CAME IN FOR A TABLE THAT YOUS WERE CLOSING UP BY 9pm
Matt Yang
The broccoli and vegetable soup is delicious. Excellent service and good atmosphere overall. Haven't tried the other branches but I would recommend this one. The cooks are very friendly and cook your food perfectly
Rochelle O'Connell
Love this place. Food is so good! Only downfall is that there's too many people there ALL the time which makes for long lines & wait times. Especially when it comes too dessert & pancakes 😂

We celebrated my friend’s birthday here. I love how the staff celebrated the birthday with us. They were all smiling and singing! Since I forgot to buy a cake for the celebrant, one Asian lady from the bar even helped me to prepare a nice pancake that would look like a birthday cake complete with dedication and candle. I love her enthusiasm. But also theres a bad side in this establishment. I felt discriminated by a fellow Asian old grumpy man from the pancake area. He didn’t even served me and was grumpy when I asked him to make me 3 pancakes he said he will only make 1 for me, and then he served a local kiwi with all smiles giving him 2 pancakes! I was so sad by the situation but thankful that the other Asian lady at the bar was really, really nice on everybody. I wish I got her name.

With regards to food and choices, there’s not much. Food is basic - not good, not bad. Nothing really stands out for me.
Hotdog&Buns
Great place for a social event, atmosphere and service is good. Awesome meat, vegetable and sauce selections, lots to choose from. After you made your own concoction, bring it up to their cooking station and they will cook it for you on a large grill.

Their salad bar and hot food selection are okay, just average. For dessert there is ice cream and pancakes which are absolute BOMB and is a must get after you stuff yourself with Mongolian grill. They make it upon request so you get to enjoy them nice and hot; add a scoop of ice cream and it sends you straight to heaven.

Took friends out from Germany here with us for dinner, so there was 8 of us altogether.

First impressions, the place looked good. But it's very hot in there, no air con at all. They did have a few fans going at certain places around the room but they weren't rotating, so they were aimed at certain customers and tables only, lucky for them (ours wasn't one). Used the drink menu to fan ourselves all night (honestly wear something very light if you can as you'll be sweating after only a few minutes in there!). It was highly uncomfortable feeling that hot n sticky and I was wearing a light summer dress even!

Food selection was good. Was excited to watch them cook the raw meats, veges and sauces once I got up there. The line was packed but it did move at an alright speed for being busy. The bowls that you use to put your raw food in, are quite small, but I didn't use my head (like other customers did) and fill 2 bowls up to cook at the same time! Would of saved me going up twice and waiting in line. But watching the way it gets cooked was interesting and cool!

The taste was kinda bland BUT in saying that I never followed the suggestions on the board with the sauce combos (you don't have too though) but perhaps I didn't put enough sauces on or the right combo etc?

If it's your birthday, they bring out a cake, (not sure if you bring that in yourself or the place makes it at an extra charge?) but 3 different people celebrated their birthday there and every time, the happy birthday song would be played out of the loud speakers for the special person.

Dessert selection is just pancakes n icecream (chocolate sauce and marsh mellows as well for toppings). Pancakes are cooked as you wait in line. I didn't make it to that last night but our kids said it was nice.

Customer service was not so great in my opinion. Ate most of the night next to our stacked up used plates. Could of been more waiters on perhaps, to ensure this didn't happen at everyone's table? Chefs don't smile at all either, which is sad. They just look tired and can't wait for their shift to be over. Or perhaps that's just the way they are? Splashing, what I think was water, carelessly all over the hot plate from a bottle, some nearly hit me and my son waiting in line (no joke) we both quickly jumped back when it happened but maybe that might of been a good thing as it was so hot in there anyway!! One waiter or maybe she's just the front person (female) quite abrupt and rude! My daughter, whose 9, and myself were standing in a position, around by the food area, to allow others to walk past first (because it was quite busy) but she was stuck at the back of us constantly going "excuse me!" "excuse me!" as she was wanting to come through, I quickly shuffled my daughter behind me in order to let her push pass (no please or thank you at the end of that either or perhaps just waiting a few more seconds until we could obviously pass out of the way of other diners so we wouldn't be in her way at the start! I don't know, maybe I expect too much from customer service these days? But being polite and friendly does go along way in my eyes! Perhaps a smile even and "hope you had a good evening?" when we are paying $260 at the end of it all would of been nice? (We had ordered drinks hence the bigger bill). A genuine smile with good service can make a MASSIVE difference!

Overall, it was an ok first time experience. Would I personally go back? No. Definitely not.

I would of said yes if customer service was better than it was and they invested in some air conditioning at least. Little things count in my opinion.

Awesome service.! Awesome Food.! Reasonable price.! Highly recommend to everyone.!
I have tried several Mongolian bbq restaurants but this is my all time favourite out of others.
Love this place.!
Dawn.marie1
Really bad service as they clearly can"t cope with the volumn of people they book.
Waited 20mins in a line up to get to eat stir fry while listening to other patrons complain
Why book so many if you can't cater to it?
Chefs were sweating into the food as we watched. Not a good birthday dinner
Ned
Been here a few times and will be going again for sure. Been during the week and weekends, if your thinking of going here on Friday, Saturday or a long weekend I would definitely suggest you ring and book a table a week in advance. Otherwise the day before should be fine. All you can eat so much sure your hungry. I'll order a Vodka n lemonade or something like that, but on last visit I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and it was so good, I'll be having that from now on. Try one and see what you think.
Trina Lund
Absolutely love the food there! Love that you choose your own main meal ingredients! Really awesome pancakes! Service is great, staff are so friendly! Recommend making a booking for a table for dinner in advance.
Little Borneo Girl
The food is average but the ambience and service are excellent for socializing or family get together. This is a buffet restaurant where you pick your own food/meat/veggies and sauces and they cook it in front of you - teppanyaki Mongolian styled. Buffet includes pancake ice cream for dessert with coffee and tea. There is no rush for you to vacate your table so you can eat at your own pace. I usually come here once a while when I have visitors/guests visiting and when mingling with friends. Enjoy the relaxed ambience.

Just as I thought it would be. My first time at Gengis Khan and it was well worth getting there EARLY! I see why they are well talked about. Good selection of raw food and extras and the variety of sauces was well accommodating. Staff were helpful and always came around to check on us. Loved the experience.
Geraldine Rasela Pua-Ioane
Look and decor looks better than the other Gengis Khans I've been too, much more spacious and inviting. Food is average, and the service is superb 👍🏼 highly recommend for bigger groups for events looking for an affordable place to dine
Chris Sixt
Always good for a family meal, all you can eat is a desirable trait for a restaurant especially for big eaters. Good price considering amount of food you can eat and the pancakes are legit. We will be back!
Neelam Chandra
Great place for catering large groups of friends or fam.
Wide selection of hot foods, salads, meat, veges and sauces.
This place is well known for cooking the meat, vege and sauce combos right infront of you. I love how there's so many different sauces to choose from to vamp up your dish.
Moon
I very like the mix whatever ingredients you want to stir fried with. Especially if you add the restaurant's special sauce in your bowl, when the man that cooks the ingredients you chose. it will taste very nice at the end.
Farah Mohammed
Decor and atmosphere is great. We went on a Thursday evening and it was surprisingly busy. We got there early so there were no queues getting our food from the buffet. Buffet is set out great and easy to figure out. Food is tasty, and plenty of options. Staff are friendly enough, but a bit pushy when constantly clearing your plates. Pancakes and ice cream for dessert was nice and simple.
Bella Mann
Had a good time here lots of selection was cool seeing them cook it in front of you could eat as much as you wanted and also the pancakes that alone is worth the price our table person was very nice and friendly and not pushy like some can be friendly person st the front reception area also

Would recommend
Richard W Mehana
Informal set up, casual dress standard. Layout of food is good making it easy to go through select your meats, vegetables sauces and oils before arriving at the chef station. Of course the taste of the food itself is based on how well you prepare your meal. Never had a bad experience here at the Botany branch. Would eat here again anytime.
Divya Nagappan
Definitely worth the money! All you can eat and decent food. They don't have a variety of stuff of vegetarians but other than that quite good value
Jake Bartley
First time going to a buffet and this was the place, went here for my sisters graduation dinner and arrived before opening, lucky we didn't end up waiting and when we finished the place was getting busy. Theres a great selection of foods and sauces were spot on, price is good, couldn't pick up on the service but had a good time! Will return!

We went on a friday night. I made a booking 1 hour in advance and was happy that ut was accepted at such late notice. The restruant was full but every time we went up to get food the line happend to be moving quick. My favorite is making garlic prawns and calamari with noodles. Waiters were very quick at clearing and refilling food. Great service ill be back
Sinead Wilson-Hoyes
Great selection of foods, reasonably prices and good service. You are seated quickly and payment is a breeze for paying separately. Overall a good experience and I will go back.
Sylvester Kuo
Came here a little while ago. The restaurant is spacious and very tidy.

It has a huge selection of meat, seafood and veggies that you can make the chefs cook for you. You can also make your own sauces to experiment with what works best. They have a nice ice cream station too. It's a nice, interactive restaurant with good food.
S&G Take Auckland
For the price this is a great buffet. Meat, veggies, noodles and sides galore.

The meat is prepared to your liking and tastes fresh. There are also plenty of sauce options to cater to all tastes .
Lexi
Would 100% recommend this place and keep coming back myself too.
The buffet was extremely impressive. Many different kinds of meat all looked and tasted fresh. The vegetables too were fresh. There was never an empty tray, quite on to it I would say. The wait for your food is not long. I waited around 5 to 7 minutes and there were quite a few people in the restaurant. Not only was the food really really good, the staff are friendly and always around at the right time. The whole ambience of this restaurant is warm and comfortable. Can't wait till I go back.
Sarah
Came here for dinner last night and they were fully booked! Like every table full.

Food was ok a bit on the burnt side though.

However I must say of all the Gengis Khan restaurants I've been too (I've been to a few) this one had the best customer services. People were always checking to refill our drinks and take away empty plates. At one time (once the bigger tables had cleared) they asked us if we would like to be moved to a bigger table (we were a party of 6 adults and 3 kids) but we were fine.

Even though the food was ok, I would still go back because of the awesome service we received.

Overall a good dinner out.
Helena Bernie
The queues are far too long, less variety than other Gengis Khan restaurants that I have visited as well. When I was waiting for my food to be cooked I saw one of the chefs drop his spatula on the floor and then pick it up and continue using it, its absolutely disgusting. The decor on the wall is nice but the restaurant gives you the feeling that you are in a food court and the price for an adult is more expensive at this Gengis Khan than others. Will not be returning.
Ashley Addis
Can't go wrong, unless you can't get in as so popular :p been here twice,1st time as a first proper date night out and loved it,great food that suits all tastes, great atmosphere, well priced.
Neil Jones
Gengis Khan - Mongolian BBQ is a great family friendly "grown up" buffet restaurant the different restaurant dotted all over Auckland and off a wide selection of food to be cooked right in front of you. Background noise can be a bit distracting but a good meal with good company out ways the noise. I say give it a try
Marcella
Been here a bit too many times but it's a great spot to catch up with mates. Mostly cos the line to get your food cooked is so long that you can catch up your whole life story while waiting. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating. But when it's full, expect a long line.

You start with the meat which has a pretty good selection. Then you move on to add some noodles/ veges if you wish. They have a good variety on sauces. I usually just go wild with them to the point where my meat is just swimming in them. But that's what you do if you want extra flavour haha.

Anyway, they also have lots of options in the cooked food area. The broccoli soup is awesome! Dip some garlic bread in there and that's heaven in a mouthful. Yum! Their pancakes are also amazing. Fluffy and the perfect pairing for the ice cream.

Definitely worth your money if you're hungry. You also dine free on your birthday ( day before and after as well) with 3 or more other paying people!
Forgot to take photos but here's one of my pancake.
SS
Gengis Khan is a long standing Mongolian buffet which I believe everyone should try at some point in their life. With cold and hot cooked food options, a opportunity to mix and match meats, veges and sauces (then cooked before your eyes on a massive hot plate) as well as pancakes and icecream on offer - I think it's value for money at $26.90.

Pros: Good variety of meat, veges and sauces, the marinated pork was yum! Refilled often too which was good. Pancakes are yum!

Cons: the ambiance is strange - feels like you're in a nice and dimly lit food court. The chefs don't even say hi anymore nor do they smile. I even heard a couple say the pancake chef's stare felt like he wanted to assassinate someone lol. Food starts tasting quite similar. The sauces are super watered down too which I think is weird.

Still a good experience if you've never been, I won't be in a rush back though.
Tommy Tomai
My recent experience at Gengis Kahn East Tamaki exceeded my expectatations. The flavour of the food and ambience of the restaurant were exceptional. If you love your meat and veges this place is for you. Great customer service with a smile and plenty of staff helped make the place run smoothly. Awesome night had with family. Well done!!
Josh Law
Best way to describe Genghis Khan (if you're not already familiar) is an all you can eat meat fest. You pick from a variety of refrigerated meats and veggies on display, shuffle over to the sauce section where they have about 20 different oil/ sauces. You cram all of the above in a small bowl and give it to the chef. The chef cooks it up on a big hot plate and gives it back to you. Quite the systematic process. There's also all you can eat ice cream and pancakes ( ask for the Mickey mouse one). As you'd imagine this place is a family favourite. So be warned that sat and sunday night get horrificly busy and kids can be all over the place. So steer clear of those times if you want to have a quiet dinner. But when it's quieter, it's a great place to eat. Usually around $25 each. The trick is to add different combos of food/ sauce as they can all start tasting the same after a while. Would recommend for a group of people. They also serve booze (don't think there's BYO).
STRADS
At Gengis Khan, one is going for an experience rather than just for the food itself. It's like reading a book on teaching yourself how to swim - if you succeed, it's because of the author; if you get drown, it's yourself to blame. For whatever ingredients you are to choose, you have to prepare to bear the taste from however it is cooked at the big round griller. The buffet dinner also includes 2 choices of soup, cold & hot dishes, dessert ( ice-creams & pancake) and coffee & tea.

So it is a semi-self-made experimental dinner. How many times does one need to experience this? Once, unless it's for meeting friends. (Food - 3/5; Service - 3/5; Ambiance - 4/5)
Mat
I've dined at Gengis Khan multiple times in the past and have found every visit pleasantly consistent. I like the variety of meat they provide and the recommended sauce combo chart located on the wall (above the sauces).

Approx $25 for all you can eat dinner and pancake/ ice cream dessert is a bargain!

Been here a few times now and every time it's been amazing. Friendly staff & awesome food . Great to go to with in big groups & it's worth ur money.
HJ
Great for family or group outings. This restaurant has plenty of seating and is quite big. You can't really go wrong with the options here, and it's up to you what veggies, meat, sauces and spices you choose. Your dish is then cooked right in front of you on the BBQ. They have a board of sauce selections which is really helpful. The food is prepared fast and the queues usually aren't too bad. They also have ready to go dishes like fried rice, samosa's, fries and pasta etc but creating your own meal is the best thing about this place. As its all you can eat it works out to be quite good value. Dessert is included too.. Pancakes (Mikey mouse shaped if your lucky!) and ice cream with a variety of sauces and toppings. Service here is pretty minimal as its all help yourself!
Brenda Phu
Genghis Khan is a popular restaurant my friends and I always come to for a birthday dinner (birthday girl eats for free).
They are a buffet styled restaurant where you can pick your food; and watch it get cooked in front of you.
Depending on how much you eat it is definitely worth it as you get your money back.
I love how they have recommended combinations of sauces. I always try something different every time.
The atmosphere is bustling but the service is lacking. You pretty much don't get any customer service except for paying for your dinner before you enter.
I love having their pancakes after my meal, when you think you're full there's always room for dessert. Pancakes, ice cream, sauce and toppings.
NS
Awesome food.... With fantastic service! Very kid friendly..... So much that some kids could become a nuisance! Well who would want kids sprinting around you when you want to enjoy your food! The staff however tried their best to calm the kids down :)

Lovely place to visit with the children. Friendly staff explained the self-service system, and helpful signage gave many suggestions for combinations of sauce and oils. The chef entertained the children by making special 'mickey mouse' pancakes for dessert...
The food was good quality, and there was hardly any wait for it to be cooked at the central area.
Would definitely go there again; they have also had a 'dine free on your birthday' deal that is worth bearing in mind if it is still active.

Nine of us went to dinner for my birthday. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their
meal and thought the service was perfect, friendly and helpful, nothing too
much trouble. Have booked for tonight and also for 8th March. Everybody
really looking forward to their next meal at Gengis Kahn, some coming from
Torbay to East Tamaki. Thank you for a wonderful evening, E.D. Last night was the first time Ive been back to this restaurant since 2007 and I have to say the food is still beautiful. Fresh and very tasty. I do wish they would add a new dessert dish to the dessert menu as they only serve pancakes and ice cream but other than that I highly recommend.

My cousin and I ate here last night and LOVED IT. We have been here before several times which was good but apparently - not sure what - the atmosphere or the decor ( looks different ) or us just being plain hungry - it was GREAT. Food / service / and in coming family groups - a very happy night. Thank you guys - see you next time :-)

Went to the restaurant on Thursday, waiters and waitress are great, food was Ok. but Mistakenly being charge for the birthday person (which was suppose to be free) Even though we had mentioned this when we did the booking and shown the driver licence during payment time( the driver licence and credit card was given to her and she returns the driver licence to me and pass the credit card to him to do the transactions, paying for $200+), then I realised that I had been overcharged. Went back to the font desk and was waiting for 15-20minutes to get this sorted and went thru 2 staffs, he checked the id again. At the end they agreed to do the refund, the staffs said they could only do bank credit/ coupon, bank accounts was provided and promised to refund on that night. Sunday still not being refunded. Make a complaint. Few hours later received the call from the manager Alex, saying that none of their staffs had seen the Id and we need to reproof again by bringing the ID back there, in order to have our money back. How ridiculous this is!!!!
If the staffs (he and she) had not seen the ID then why they promised to do the refund at the beginning? Alex could not answer to my question. i requested to speak to his staffs again to clarify the situation but the manager refuse for me to do so, saying I should only be dealing with him as he is the manager. This is ridiculous. I get frustrated and started to raised my voice i told him i will definitly make a complaint regardign this issues and he said i had been rude and hang up the phone. this is being rip off.... Poor management. Good luck Alex with your customer skills.... Will not go back again... Rip off...

Great food, nice and friendly stuff. You definitely won't leave with the empty stomach. It's clean, was busy even on the weekday, which is a good sign. We really enjoyed our visit and are going to come again!

Clean modern buffet. My partner took me for a dinner date, and I was pretty satisfied with the taste. The atmosphere was just a lovely place to eat, the only least thing I liked about Gengis Khan would be waiting in the long lines and sometimes the meat would be a bit burnt. Other then that everything else is very good!

Lovely clean restaurant. Decor is refreshing and inviting. Food average and long wait times with large groups to get plate fired. Staff service below average - light on the floor with so many people dining.

Had my daughters birthday dinner here with a large group. I think we all left pretty satisfied the only downside would have been that they weren't serving alcohol which was a bummer as we were there to celebrate and nobody said anything when I rung twice that day to confirm and adjust my booking! Also the bathroom toilet floor was so sticky!! Other than that the staff were great, well spoken and friendly. Great selection of food that was kept full and the non alcholic cocktails were very good! We left a big mess with all the children but thy weren't phased by it. Will definitely come again!

tried a few of these restaurants, The decor is better than most but the selection is not as good. if your after a pleasant on the eye restaurant than you should be happy, but if you want a great food experience there are far better to choose from

We had a Birthday meal at this restaurant on Sunday 11 December 2011, 8 adults, our meal was fantastic, food outstanding, service however was a little slow, but I expect that had alot to do with the fact they seemed short on staff this night and it was an extremely busy night with many diners.
An explanation by our Waitress who showed us to our table about how the Restaurant worked would have helped also.
Our overall experience was very, very, enjoyable.
Would highly recommend this place.
Bill
Very fun, good with kids as they can make their own meal while eating healthy things, although the desert bar is a hit! However staff seemed slow and overwhelmed.

Have been here 3 times. Overall I was very impressed.
Customer service has been superb every time, Chefs are fast considering the Restaurant was full all 3 times I've been.
Food was delicious & healthy. And most of all the tables were spaced out! My stomach didn't feel groggy the next morning as majority of the foods are healthy. We all enjoyed ourselves & will definitely return! :)

Always fun to make your own dishes, a favourite for my family and me!

I'd like to say, worse service ever!! Went there July 2010 to celebrate a friends 30th birthday, pre booked a week earlier for 16 people or so, paid the deposit and agreed on 7pm. got there at 6pm to let them know we were there and give them time to prepare our tables, and the restaurant was so packed, it didn't look like they had prepared our tables. finally it was 7pm, went to see reception and she said just another 5mins, that was fine, went to see her again, another 15mins, ok, i guess we can suck it up a lil while longer, kept going back every 15mins and it was the same answer, ended up going next door to have drinks, waiting until 9pm for them to get our tables ready, a group of teenage girls who booked their tables for 8pm came late and were bumped up the list!!! had a big row with the staff while the manager refused to show his face and hid in the kitchen!! the group of teenage girls got their table set up while we waited in the so called "lobby" finally 9.30pm our tables were getting wiped down and arranged!!! the only compensation we got was a $100 bar tab, no discounted or free meals for the loooonngg wait...and to make it worse, it was like the chefs had ants in their pants serving us uncooked meals... would not recommend this restaurant, but would suggest to hire more staff for the weekends!!! and get your bookings organised!!

Have been here 4 times and will happily go back. Awesome food, wide variety of sauces and sides. Beautiful lay out with modern styled furniture. Nice and clean.

I have been here only twice, but both times I was blown away. The food is incredible - there is something about the food being cooked right in front of you, such an experience. The list of sauce recommendations on the wall are also helpful. The only negative side is that they did not do BYO when we went, and also the wait staff need to pick it up a bit - they are a bit slack at times, we were left waiting for drinks for a long period of time.

A great place for a buffet dinner, and excellent value for money.

check out the price, how can you go wrong.. been here many times with large groups and never disappointed. There is so much food that it’s impossible to choose and the desert bar is amazing also.
Torben Nielsen
Been there a number of times now, with groups of 10 - 25 people. Always had a great time there. Nice atmosphere, good food. Can't say much about service because its mainly self service. Last time we went with group 25 people had back area sectioned off to ourselves.

Disappointed that we had booked (in person) for 6 adults 5 days in advance and chosen a specific corner table for some privacy, on the day of our meal we were seated at one with no privacy.
The table we had chosen was already given to a bigger group of people although we were on time. Not good service.
Would not go there again and would recommend to anyone.

I would just like to say Gengis Khan is an awesome place with great service and a healthy menu.

Highly recommended for those with a family like myself. The kids love it plus they dont realise they're eating vegies.

My husband & I enjoy the relaxed environment and value for money. Desserts are a real treat you over but it doesnt come back to get you in the middle of the night.

The selection is just enough so your not overwhelmed, its interesting tasty and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Gengis Khan.

Great service from the waitress and waiter. From the Mongolian bbq restaurants, this is had the freshest food by far and looked more modern than the others. A couple of dollars more expensive per adult but it's worth it. We'll be returning here, great value for money and child friendly.

if you are hungry and looking for a big feed, fantastic
food choices and range are great and is topped up regularly, choice of sauces are aplenty
the cooking system is relatively quick, better than other mongolian restaurants that i have been
need to book, always full of big groups celebrating their special occasion
finish off nicely with ice cream and pancake
