It's my local go to restaurant! Love the food, tap beer and wine. Has a kids menu which is great and value for money plus have colouring books and pens to keep them entertained. Never get bored of the food as you can select a different dish each time they are all good. I love the pizza and garlic pizza bread to.

Generous portions of pasta, could use some salt, quick and attentive service, overall pretty good

What a wonderful experience. Easy to access, I.e. no fighting traffic in the city, and good parking. Very pleasant staff and the food was just wonderful. Best calamari for a long time, perfectly cooked. Also, the veal was awesome. We were a group of four and we all enjoyed the night. Definitely going onto my special list.

The prices online from their website and actual takeaway prices are different by $3-4 each meal. I’ve paid the difference because hospitality were in struggle for a past couple of years, however, I would think you should’ve waved it. Because the prices direct from you website. Please update the website before you get more upset customers 🤷🏼‍♂️ The food is nice,However every time we order, it could’ve been saltier (every time using salt on top) . I’ve seen this comment been mention before too, could be good if do some investigating around that Thanks 😊

Delicious food, polite and service, nice setting.

I've had better Italian food. It was just ok.

The last three times I have visited, the manager has asked if we had a booking (which we didn't) even though there was only one other party there at the time, and other parties who arrived after us were not asked if they had a booking. We both ordered a drink, but only mine arrived, and my starter arrived as we were finishing our mains and ready to leave. The food there is quite good, which is why we've gone back again, but the service we've been receiving is making us question if we should find somewhere else.

The food was great, very generous portions, the service was great, with friendly staff , will be back again.

The steak dish was divine

Amazing food and enjoy the overall experience whenever I visit.

Food always constant and the service is wonderful. A lovely place to take our kids and teach them restaurant manners.

Would have preferred my pizza base to be a bit crispier (a little doughie in the middle today), but as usual tasty dinners🙂 Like that the kids can pick off the main menu for a smaller portion, great now they are a bit older and willing to try different options.

Service great but really big meal portions

Great neighbourhood restaurant. All the traditional Italian dishes are on the menu. The service is good and the staff are friendly. The modern decor creates a relaxing environment for a sit down meal. And they do takeaways too.

Extensive menu, something for everyone

Great local restaurant. Nice for a night out. Good variety of Italian cuisine. Wines mainly Italian and Nz. Veal masala was delicious. Calamari was surprising a little undercooked. Chicken livers excellent and rich in flavor. Enjoyable night. Mains are in the 20 30 price pasta dishes less.

We just loved it

My favourite restaurant in Auckland hands down. Service is always amazing, the food even more so, have been coming here at least fortnightly for years now and can’t fault it at all, have had amazing dine in and takeaway meals from here.

I used to go to Portofino quite often from the mid 90-es when the original Macedonian family owned the franchise (not sure if new owners now but it all seem to hint towards that).
This used to be a great and fine eatery with a lot of authentic Italian and Dalmatian food, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be the case these days.
We ordered calamari for myself which were drowning in sauce and no or very little rice added to balance this, sponging up the remaining sauce with a fork is always a challenge so I used some of my son's pizza dough to do so. The size was Mains, 2 x the price of an entree served to the person next to me which was only slightly smaller in size.
My son's Calzone pizza came filled with pineapple...to his surprise, as this is normally something linked to the Havaiian pizza, the tomato sauce wasn't a sauce, sorry to state it bluntly but it was a cheap supermarket off-the shelf pizza paste. My wife's crumbed veal meal also left some to be desired.
I agree with others here who commented the tables are too close to each other, this should be an easy fix. Look, I don't want to sound negative but our latest experience there left us wanting a little more, to say the least. Hope the restaurant picks up on these and addresses them, we all need a good Euro or Italian local eatery in our neighborhood - let's make this a success story this place used to be for decades!

Cheers.

A reliable neighbourhood local. In terms of the atmosphere, it can be hit and miss as when it’s busy it can be cramped and noisy, but if you are seated outside on a warm evening, or at a big table near the front it can be most pleasant. The food isn’t mind blowing but if you feel like some Italian comfort food it always hits the spot. My favourite dishes are the cannelloni and the spaghetti marinara. The marinara would benefit from some chunks of fish and a few less mussels, but all in all I’d say hit it up if you’re a Meadowbanker or in the area.

4.5/5 Taste
4/5 Display
3.5/5 Quantity
4.5/5 Customer Service

Amazing Italian Restaurant in Remuera Rd

Visited this place with ex and mum few months ago, their food was great, rich and well portioned. Busy eating them couldnt really take clear photo but one of them seems alright. Their rissoto was my personal favourite.
3.5/5 Rating
I had no idea there are so many franchises of this restaurant. The food is good. The pasta was cooked well and had enough sauce to coat all the pasta. There was enough flavour and seasoning in the dishes.

Service was relatively quick and friendly.

I’ve been here a few times over the summer. The service has been great. The management has always found us a table despite having no booking.
I like a shrimp cocktail. I’m a simple fella at heart. The one here is surprisingly good. Full of shrimp and the sauce is tangy creamy and slightly spicy. It’s really good.
The pasta and pizza menu probably needs a couple of items changing. That could just be because I’ve eaten there often in a short space of time and become overly familiar with the menu. The quality of food and portions are great. The prices are reasonable. Two courses a glass or two of wine around $100.

Friendly service. Awesome breads. Melts in your mouth so, can safely say that Chef knows his job.
Pasta and Pizza too were good. We requested for some custom changes and the chef was happy to oblige.
Overall a wonderful experience. Though please keep in mind that the experience comes at a cost! :)

This is the place we always go to whenever we have big craves for authentic Italian food. And they never disappoint us.

We love their Margarita pizza, takes me straight back to the seaside restaurant of Naples. The spaghetti Alla vongole is always beautifully cooked with fresh clams. The vibrant white wine taste with rich olive oil matches perfectly, a great summer dish. Spaghetti Bolognese is nice and rich, exactly like what you would expect from an Italian grandma's Kitchen.

Other highlights include the four seasons pizza and the seafood rissoto. We often enjoy the steamed mussles with tomatoe creama too.

Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a great authentic Italian dinning experience. Dine in or takeway.

We have takeaway from here on almost a weekly basis. Both Pizza and Pasta are always piping hot and delicious and portion sizes are large. Glad it's just round the corner!

My daughter and I use to come at least once a week. We always ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and the garlic pizza pane. They were always so accommodating to us and would separate my Main dish and give a small portion of my pasta in a little bowl for my daughter to eat.

The portions are huge and very filling.

Another fAve dish would be the tortellini el panna and spaghetti Bologna.

I think you get your money's worth here. Parking isn't the best on Dorchester/ gowing drive, but your not paying for the parking at the end of the day.

Ate here on 2/13/16. Half way through dish of very mediocre pasta puttenesca (with tomatoes and tinned olives), discovered a beetle or roach crawling out from the noodles. When I alerted the staff, they took it away but then presented us with a bill for the buggy pasta. When we protested, they responded that the bug must have flown into my pasta because their kitchen was so clean it wasn't possible that anything else had occurred. Never mind what did happen (I was sitting outside, but didn't see any bugs flying around nor into my meal), the only appropriate response for a restaurant in that circumstance is to apologize and comp at least the one diner if not the whole table. The response to the unpleasant event was actually worse than finding a bug in my food.

Very tidy place. Everything was spotless.
Service very average.
Prices quite expensive for the mains.
Pizza terrible.
Desert was fantastic.
Coffee very good.

I would like to see a nice pizza in here.
And also don't have to pay $30 for a main.

Needs work and new serving staff.
We've been regulars at Portofino for years so I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed them yet...

The refurbishment undertaken a year or two ago has been a huge improvement to the ambience of this restaurant. It has created a more spacious and relaxed atmosphere for enjoying a good Italian meal.

The staff are always friendly and accommodating, and the chef has been known to whip up something not on the menu if requested.

Beware of the corkage charges at $5 per person! This is quite extreme given most bottles are screw cap now and require very little effort to open, but to be fair, this branch in Meadowbank is (I believe) the only Portofino in the chain to allow BYOW.

The Rigatoni Portafino, Cannelloni Ricotto e Spinaci, and Chicken Salad are all favourites, and recently I tried a Fettuccine dish which was simply awesome (I can't see the dish on the online menu so it might be a new item, it was either vegetarian or chicken, and I believe included chilli, capers and a pomodoro sauce).

Excellent Italian dining in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Hi there, I ate at your restaurant tonight. The service was fairly good except we ordered a dessert to share and no plates were provided so we made a quite a mess on the table as the cream from our brandy snaps kept falling onto the table. No serviettes were provided either, so we had to ask for them. Also we felt the tables were extremely close, making it hard to converse with each other and hearing the peoples conversation on the other tables, was not pleasant at all. Thirdly the entrance door was kept open and it was a cold night so I constantly had a draft on my back, not pleasant. I didn't ask to have the door closed as I figured it was open to show people that you were open for business plus you were serving tables outside, so it was kept open for that reason I guess, as well. I would not recommend your restaurant as a comfortable restaurant to dine at. Whilst I understand you are probably trying to squeeze as many people in as possible due to demand, I think having a couple of less tables would make your restaurant a much more pleasurable dining experience.

The food is always great and serving sizes are plentiful. The decor is average and the service is good. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience even if it's somewhat on the pricey side. Especially good when it's not too busy and the noise level is moderate.

We eat here regularly.

The decor is great - the prices are reasonable and they have a great kids menu.

They do a great shrimp cocktail! Also the Veal Marsala is amazing according to my mother!

Winner!

The newly renovated Portofino Meadowbank is amazing! This is our favourite local restaurant and our family of four enjoy dining here whenever we can. The food is excellent (you can't go past the Veal marsala or funghetto - delicious!) and the service is really friendly. Gorgeous interiors - great food. An excellent family restaurant. Highly recommended.

Delicious food and great service. The only thing I can complain about is when you ask for rum you must specify as I end up with white rum (my own fault). Definitely recommend as it is fantastic, my partner and I both LOVE it!

:)

I've been here many times and always had a great meal. It is the best out of the Portofinos in Auckland and much better than most Italian restaurants. I've tried the lasagne, spag bol, and gnocchi. The only thing is it would be good if they offered meals in an entree size as I find the main size far too big and always leave half. I would rather pay slightly less and get 2/3 of the serving.
Theodore
Incredibly nice service, the food is always delicious, and the atmosphere is great - a quiet and cosy little restaurant. Absolutely love it and go regularly. It's a real shame that others on this site appear to have had a bad time, as it's always lovely everytime I go. They also do takeaways with just as much quality if there isn't enough time to sit in.

Me and my man used to go to portafino meadow bank years ago on our first date and loved it and went back all the time, then we noticed they started using cheap quality ham etc so we stopped going there any way 2years later we decided to give them ago again.... we got take-aways.. but still $51 later and we ended up getting Mc Donalds cause our food was soooo terrible it was un eatable, we got 2 small pizzas which were soggy muck and undercooked the chicken pizza was raw.... and a tortellini which was hard and tasted like salt..... we were gana get pizza hut but we thought we'd try this again... dammmn why didnt we just get pizza hut we would have been full and saved money.... ino i will NOT be back and will not recommend you to anyone

Very disappointing! Spaghetti Bolognaise had about a dessert spoon of meat and was tasteless. Asked for some more meat/sauce, plate returned with lumps of meat obviously hurriedly cooked, meal floating in tomato paste, like a soup. Tables so jammed that it was a struggle for staff/customers alike to move past them. Two of us arrived and the waiter in the middle of greeting/seating us, walked off and welcomed a group of about 6 (dollar signs in his eyes)!!! Kiwis travel extensively so they cannot be fooled with second-rate ethnic food. Got the impression they couldn't care less.
