Review Daruma Sushi-go-round Albany - Auckland Central

Pretty decent conveyor belt sushi place. First of all, the staff was really friendly and the restaurant was clean. On to the food, the sushi were pretty good, decent variety and some you would not normally find anywhere else (in NZ anyway). You can order other food on the menu as well, like udon. Would love to visit regularly, but the price is quite steep so I'll probably come back on special occasions.

Great atmosphere and great location. The seafood and all other food items were really fresh and very delicious. All staff were very friendly. The prices are reasonable considering today's inflation, but it is totally not a place for cheap eating. Overall, we had a great dining experience at this establishment and would recommend if you are in the area and craving some nice sushi/nigiri.

No booking, seated 3 on entry. Your seated next to a train that carries entree sized servings of sushi, donburi, seafood, dim sims etc plus desserts, cream puffs, tiramisu, mouse etc. Continuous train. Simply grab the dishes you desire while seated and eat! Plates are color coded, these are how they tally up the total cost. Drinks list, soft drinks, red, white, beers, nothing extra. 3 people plus drinks ate till full, took home a fav each, $80.

The food was quite good, we did order a few hit dishes to make sure we got hot food. We did notice that the price has continued to increase, and as such it is not such good value now. We still liked the food, but can't justify the cost compared to some other options that we have.

Great classic sushi train, one that also stocks plenty of the good stuff on the train so I don't have to keep ordering

I like sushi train, you can see it before getting it and eat a variety of things. This place doesn't have a lot of other choices apart from sushi, so unless you are a big fan of sushi, this place would be slightly dissapointing. They do however have seasonal menu, so you still get something different every now and then. Overall a clean and nice environment, food is fresh, sushi is not bad, but nothing special.

The train was out of a lot of the options when I was in, so a little disappointed. You can get fried products or udon chicken if your not in the mood for sushi. They also have soft drinks and beer available. Service was friendly and efficient. Parking on a Sunday was fine

Best sushi place I've had on the North Shore. Can be a bit pricey if you don't keep track of what you're eating. Customer service is great. High quality food. I'd come here again with friends.

Nice go around sushi train restaurant. Tidy and clean place. Delicious sushi made by Fresh ingredients. Rice base is a bit smaller than normal sushi though, but good quality rice been used. Would come again.
Nolan Jex
Good fun and quick service, able to seat us straight away. As expected, it was quite pricy once you add everything up at the end of the night! Would come back again though.

This place was great fun to go to with the kids. The food travels around on a conveyor belt past every table. You simply take what you want off the conveyor. The plates are colour coded and have different costs. At the end they count up all the different colour plates you have used and multiple by the appropriate cost to work out your bill.

Absolutely love this place. Clean store, super friendly staff with a wide range of yummy grub to fill up on in a very convenient manner.

I like the fresh seafood sushi including Kina, scallop, tuna, king fish and salmon caveat. Although Sushi train in the city seems to have more variety of different sushi.

Didn't go for sushi but for the byo car wash what can I say easy to use did have to bring my own soap and washing materials, all in all good place 9/11 will do again

Nothing wrong with the food but there isn’t enough of it. We dined during dinner service for well over an hour and barely anything got replaced on the belt. We had to start ordering off menu which would be fine for a few items but it took too long to get to us and completely defeats the purpose of a sushi train restaurant.

Loved the variety and freshness of sushi here! Favourites would be the crab leg and pepper prawns! You can also find fresh raw tuna, King Fish and scallop sushi’s here which is a bonus!
Stana Hogg
Good food but a little pricey, still a very a fun place with the sushi train and all. Although if you get a platter it doesn't cost nearly as much. Overall a good place.

Got takeaway sushi from here and to be honest it was quite average. I had the chicken roll and the chicken was really chunky and the roll wasn't very tight so it fell apart. My brother had the cucumber roll and he liked it and my Dad also had some of the seafood rolls which he liked. Would like to actually have a seat and try it out on the go around sushi seats next time.

I had been to the Daruma Sushi in Botany and absolutely loved it so was hoping this branch closer to home would be just as good.

I do feel like the sushi was just as delicious as the other store, however I also feel like it lacked a certain magic that Botany had. The Botany store felt a lot more warm, inviting and comfortable. The service here at Albany was not particularly friendly and I feel like the music was rather loud for a dining environment.

The sushi and ramen were still delicious however, so that’s the important thing.

What a great experience to watch sushi go round! But the best tip I can give is to sit closer to the beginning of the train so you can get your fave sushi! If you're the last seat you may find the sushi you wanted is all gone. The sushi was fresh place was clean, and the service was good. It is expensive but it's worth the experience. I would probably go back.

Good place to have a relaxing dinner with friends. Various of dishes to choose. I like the noodles. They have oyster roll before which was amazing. Kids beer also a good try. Strongly recommended.

My eldest son has been craving for sushi and we decided to try this, expectations were met. Friendly staffs, toddler friendly (Thank God) I was able to eat properly with my toddler with us too. Authenticity 100%, now made me wanna go back to Tokyo ❤

My daughter always wants this sushi-go-around, she calls this as sushi-train. To kids, it’s not only about food but also about fun. The sushi is with reasonable price, food quality worth the price. I love their mochi vanilla ice cream, better than some other restaurants. And u can purchase pre-packed in fridge.

The best sushi place in town! I mean not just in Albany but the whole Auckland. I go there like once every two weeks, or even more often. So the photos are from different visits. Food: great, fresh, creative choices, nice ramen. Staff: super cute and friendly. Price: about 2/3 the price of the sushi places in city centre. So, if you live in Albany, and like sushi, do not wait.

The worst sushi I've ever had and also is the most expensive sushi. May interesting for kids who love the idea of conveyor belt sushi or Japanese culture. (There were many toys and arcade claw machines in the restaurant, which indicates their main customers are kids). Unfortunately, for adults, that's not a good experience.

Eww... it is actually the worst sushi I ever has and the $7.50 noddles is tiny!! But the sushi belt thingy is quite good by the way the price is really expensive and it was 75 dollars for 2 people!!
Alohamaman
Soo yummy!
This is the real Japanese SUSHI!!
The restaurant is nice and clean and very fresh!
And the staff was friendly.
Highly recommend this place.

Great food an service by the staff mid week, we went there Wednesday at about 11:35am as they open at 11:30 for lunch but we had to wait for a good 15mins due to the doors being locked, we waited cause we really wanted to try it. Other people who arrived round the same time left cause they couldn’t wait that long. Tbh any longer an we would have too. But food an service was great non the less, we really enjoyed the experience I tried things I had never eaten before like soft shell crab sushi but it was amazing. There goyza was to die for. Would have given 5 stars if we hadn’t had to wait.

They ve got a sushi train that's the only difference between your regular sushi shop and here. (Oh and the price). I don't think they are necessarily making better sushi prices than just a normal lunch sushi shop. Some of the good local sushi shop could have better one than here. But I guess you still pay for the service & ambience & vibe and extra.. well they open for dinner so I guess you could say you are having it as a fun dinner instead of having takeaways or sitting in a conner of small sushi shop and having it

Overall 3.5/5
Food 5/5
Value 3/5
Selection 2/5

Nice place to enjoy sushi train.

Been here a few times. Each time I enjoyed the freshness of the sushi . I also enjoyed some fancy sushi, if they were actually are on the belt! Each time I go there, never was a time all selection were on the belt. You would think at a busy service they would keep topping up but the selection gets lower then out as the time goes by so if you show up at 7pm or later, you get what is left on the train. Although you can order specific items from the waitress but what's the point?
Their udon is a hit with my family so I would suggest you try it.

A great place with a good selection of sushi. Lots to choose from but does get a little pricy if you get greedy like me. The train is the best bit but order off the menu if you want something different.

Service is always nice here and they have a good selection of food. A little bit pricey but the quality is acceptable. Can be a bit of a queue if you go during lunchtime in weekends but they always keep the train filled up with plenty of sushi.

Owned and run by Japanese, so there's plenty of nigiri with white fish (salmon, terakihi, kingfish), shellfish, and tuna. There's also eel nigiri and salmon eggs. In other words, it's a more like a proper sushi restaurant, with plenty of stuff that isn't smothered in sauces or mayo. However, as that can come across as a bit 'boring' for some palates, there's also plenty of the salmon California roll variants, and things like takoyaki and fried prawn and noodles. It's a bit more costly because the fish is of good quality.

Nice and clean, good service and plenty of choice. It’s not the cheapest but then sushi train restaurants generally aren’t. My daughter loves the kids beer and the food is tasty. If you are European just watch what you order as some of it is traditional food and we found is s little unusual. Plenty of favourites though to be found here
Sometimes I feel down then I will come here and eat a lot, like 20 plates. There have many kinds of seafood, and my favourite one is ika~! But I have one suggestion is, please put ika sashimi in the menu!
Lisa Reynolds
Brought my son here for lunch. We had a great time choosing from the manny little dishes and also had some plain avocado sushi made for my son. The Ice cream balls for desert where our favourite.

I like the booth seating, but the table was a bit crowded.

At $49 for two, It was quite expensive for lunch and for this reason we will probably keep this place for special meals.

Very yum sushi . Average value for money. But very rude staff. Said I couldn't sit somewhere once I moved seats because it's not allowed. ... well I'm the paying customer I can sit where ever I like as long as it isn't reserved for somebody else.

Not bad for a sushi train restaurant, especially just opened a year ago. The hot manu need to upgrade, still love to take family out for a Saturday lunch.

Sushi is always fresh. Their ramen is simple and tasty. Have had pork and spicy ramen, would recommend. The Uburi range of sushi is delicious.
Blackpearl
This is a fun way to eat sushi. Not cheap but still good if you know how many plates roughly you're going to eat. Food is delicious and fresh, quality is better than most revolving sushi restaurants I've been to in Auckland. We came here about once a month, whenever we want a relaxing but fun sushi experience. Tip: Come there during lunch and dinner time so that there's a lot of plates on the revolving belt, if not during those time, there are usually fewer plates around.

Spice up your meal by making your own selection as the food conveyor belt goes around. Definitely a fun way to dine alone, as a pair, with a small group of friends or family. I bet your kids will love this place.

As an addition, there's also options where you can order from their menu directly; from ramen to Californian roll, and Wagyu beef dishes.

P/S: They also offer Sushi Platters for functions - price and variety looks pretty good.
Charles & Haruka
They have pretty good dishes. We recommend ryoshi-yaki $10 which is a salty grilled king fish with crispy skin and juicy white fish meat, and Aburi garlic king fish $4 which has good fatty meat. If you like sushi, or if you like Japanese mayonnaise, you will definitely enjoy their dishes.
The ambiance was also good. I feel like the ambiance is more authentic than other Japanese restaurants. The movement of the train/belt was smooth and at a good speed. Furthermore, they keep the shop very clean. Overall, it was a very fun experience.

A cute little Japanese sushi train store just off the motorway. Came with family when it just opened - the concept is great and the sushi tasted pretty good. Nothing especially of note, but pretty decent food and service was great as well. The cost does add up pretty quickly after a number of plates though!

This was my first time coming to this place and it looked really cool because I haven't been able to find a sushi go round in Auckland that is close to where I live.

They have a lot of choices and I enjoyed all of them and I tried some new things that I had never had before and it definitely allowed me to try out different things.

The food is quite overpriced and the desserts aren't cheap at all. My father got food poisoning after eating some fish that wasn’t fresh from here so you need to watch what you’re getting.

Visited Daruma for dinner with two others on a weeknight. This restaurant is well set up with a bunch of booths set up on one side of the sushi go round & a long table on the other. The restraint is clean & modern. It was pretty busy when we arrived at around half past 6. We sat in one of the booths which were private & comfortable, we were lucky to score the last booth available. There are a range of dishes which you can grab off the sushi go round from as soon as you sit down, they are priced based on the colour of the plate they are on & each dish has a card explaining what each dish is before it. The sushi go round was always well stocked & all of the dishes we had were fresh. Daruma also have a range of dishes on a menu which we can order. At our table we enjoyed a whole range of dishes chicken & cream cheese, salmon & tuna sushi, beef tataki, udon, prawn twisters, prawn crackers, teriyaki & spicy chicken & dumplings. The pricing is reasonable with dishes starting at only $3.00. This restaurant is great for something different with the sushi go round. There's a great variety of food & the prices are reasonable. I will definitely return.
