Review Kashmir Indian Restaurant - Auckland Central

Good food. We eat here regularly and the food is consistent and lovely.

It's not fine dining but I don't think that's what they're trying to do. Tasty food, fast and friendly service and reasonable prices. I'm a repeat customer! 🙂

Great Restaurant. Lovely atmosphere and decore. A tad like an 'ole style restaurant'. Highly recommend.

Took a chance on this local option on Easter Monday. Half expected to get food poisoning but didn’t - pleasantly surprised. Clearly short staffed but got there in the end. Had chicken tandoori, Sheri kebabs, popadums and butter naan. Chicken was a bit dry. Naan was superb. Would go back.

Very delish, the restaurant is clean and uniformed. Feels like a luxury dining experience. Food came out in a timely manner and tasted lovely. The Naan was so fresh and very enjoyable. The staff were attentive and lovely and both young ladies are an asset to Anokha. We will most definitely be back.

Classy ambience, and cleanliness. Excellent and prompt service, courteous and professional staff. Delicious authentic Indian food, made exactly to the spice level we expected for mild (for kid) and medium for adults. One of the finest dining experiences in Auckland. Great for family and kids. We ordered vegetarian only and it was fresh and nicely done.

Service was quick, friendly and I enjoyed my butter chicken. Nice venue and good ambience to the place.

Great service, excellent meal & moderate pricing👌

Great food, best Indian on the shore. Come here with the curry club. Highly recommend.

This is one of my favorite places for Indian, and possibly for dinner in general. The lamb korma is my favorite, great flavors and consistently good as well. Great nans and very friendly service! Just had dinner here tonight and am already looking forward to my next visit :) thanks team!

My partner and I went for dinner yesterday. The lamb korma was nice. The waitress came to the table to check on us multiple times. Unfortunately, she sniffled and coughed every time she came to the table, including when she was leaning over the table to clear the dishes. I now have a sore throat, which is almost definitely due to dining here because I hadn't gone anywhere else in the days prior.

The food was good, ordered a tika chicken masala. The curry and the bread was good. Service was really bad, took them half an hour to even serve us and waitress looked like she was absolutely over it.

Takeaway order: Ordered lamb Shekh kebab and lamb biryani,
Lamb shekh kebab was less quantity like only 4 kebabs when mentioned 6 on menu. I ordered lamb biryani but they gave me something else which has all chicken lamb and prawns. Very very disappointed what a waste of money, I literally went to mcd as everything was closed. I could rate negative.

Inability to follow short-clear instructions caused an allergy attack, and very painful rest-of-the-night. I would blame communication issues except we had a European waiter and we gave clear instructions to exclude couple of ingredients. Like others, we've had inflexible & rude service here, in the past, but didn't realize they'd disregard instructions completely this time. Have learnt our lesson to stay away from this place!
Riley
Decent enough.
Been to this place a bunch. Side and starters are all great. In the curries meats are generally dry but sauce and taste is great. The real let down for me is the service you receive at this place.

I had a Chicken Tikha Butter Masala with garlic naans. Food was OK. Ambience is good. But we were served by a sour faced woman who at one point almost flung the basket of Naan on the table. Hopefully not all the staff is rude.

Was pretty busy when I ate here. Started off quietly but filled up with locals. I personally ordered the butter chicken tika masala. A combination of butter chicken and tikka masala. Overall I found the sauce overally sweet, didn't enjoy it at all, I had asked for medium and found my curry to be very mild. I tasted my partners Lamb sagwalla which was melt in the mouth tender and aromatic. Maybe the chef was having a day off when he made my curry but it really fell below my expectations sadly.
Atmosphere and ambience a little dated. Very 70's decor. Could do with a face lift.

I have been going to Kashmir for 15+ years and do not have a negative comment to make. The food is excellent, the owners and staff friendly and welcoming. I would recommend Kashmir without hesitation.

We've been going to the Kashmir for about 20 years. First to the old restaurant further down the road in Milford, then to Albany. When they sold the Albany restaurant we continued to follow them to the new Kashmir in Milford. The décor is great and the restaurant is spacious. The food is excellent and the menu varied with plenty of vegetarian choices as well (otherwise we would not have been going for 20 years). We will continue to patronize the Kashmir as we thoroughly enjoy the food.

Went to Kashmir on Friday night with a couple of friends. After the usual ploy of do y have a booking let’s see if we can fit you, even though we are only marginally busy, they found us a table.

We got to complimentary poppadoms and no mango chutney!

We ordered a cross section of curry’s, vindaloo, Kashmir chicken etc. The meat was over cooked, sauces were heavy (cream) and all had a similar taste. We asked for the vindaloo to be extra spicy hot but we found it mild.

The naan bread and rice was good.

Service was slow, not particularly friendly or attentive.

Total cost including four beers $140.

In summary we have gone for an average rating and we are not sure we will try it again.

Sorry... Disappointed.
No good options in menu for Veg Entrée.
Mains were ok only, could improve by preparing curry with natural turmeric color and other spices.
Caroline Burton
The quality of food and service here is inconsistent, but when it is good it is very good. However, when we 'politely' complained about a 50 minute wait for food that was barely warm on arrival, we decided the rudeness and arrogance of the owner's response was unacceptable and we've never been back. There are plenty of excellent Indian restaurants serving North Indian food that is consistently good and whose owners value their regular customers.

I used to love to go to this place & Albany one but not anymore because of their service.
Me and my friends were their to dine in at Milford.
But staff denied us to let in ....Said we are closing ..No dine in .
*Open sign was on
*Still had 1 hour to close restaurant as per displayed opening hours outside.
This is a yo-yo of a restaurant. My partner and I have been here many times and while on occasion Kashmir have been exemplary - I once had a lamb saagwala so good it nearly brought tears to my eyes (and not just from the spice!), more often than not the food has been quite bland and cream rich. Not great for the price. The last time however, was appalling. We had ordered a lamb korma and a lamb saagwala to take away and were very much looking forward to some comfort food after a long day. What we got however was gristle. There was no lamb at all, just gristle. The sauce bland and the rice old. Very disappointing.

One the fanciest and most exotic Indian restaurant I have come across. Soups, starters, entree or desserts - all are very well prepared, true to their taste! Must try for anyone anytime!
Nick
Food was very tasty and satisfying.
Staff were very helpful and polite, describing to us what the dishes contained.
Venue was a bit dark and quiet, seemed to be a lot of old people in there.

Worst indian I have been to in auckland. Waited 20min for menu and 20min for drinks to arrive.starter arrived pretty quick.mains took 40min even though only 1/3 full.hate to see what happens if they were busy! Food not remotely authentic indian and not tasty.my main was supposed to have 3 different meats but the staff confirmed after I queried it that because they had run out it only had 1 type of meat. Also overcharged on bill. DO NO GO THERE!

I've been eating the food at Kashmir for about 2 years now. Me and my husband used to love their food. But more recently (in the past 4-6 months) the taste and quality has drastically dropped. All the curries are generic and taste like nothing but a cream and tomato puree mixture. Horrible. The Biryani which used to be great is now quite bad. They hit a new low today with uncooked chicken in the chicken tikka masala. Really disappointed. Its a pity they've allowed their standards to drop so much.

Been going to kashmir milford for the past 10 years. Know the staff and owners by name. I have never had a bad experience and is so cost effective it's amazing. If you want a feast this is the place! We start with tandor prawns, then chicken Tika butter masala with garlic Naan. All this for around $30 to feed two people easily. With its new location it has plenty of seating. Wait time is minimal, always hot and fresh.

A lovely restaurant with a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. In our experience, the food is always cooked beautifully, tastes great, and is plentiful. Definitely value for money. The service is gracious but discrete - we aren't bugged through the meal, which we appreciate. We also like that there are many delicious vegetarian options. We've always had a great time here.
Alexis Leader
The butter chicken is yuck and the service is poor, the women behind the counter are ALWAYS rude. King of India on East Coast Road is waaaaay better and their food is delicious, their naans are also HUGE for the same price and they always throw in some freebies. Highly recommend them - they also do delivery!

We went here last night with a big group of people. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and had a nice separate area for groups. Getting the drinks orders right was. a little bit of a challenge but we got there in the end. I have a medium Lamb Nawabi which was really good. The size of the menu makes it a bit of a problem to decide what to have, as they have so many choices. Sun, Mon and Tues nights they have curries for $ 14.00, excl seafood. I had a Cheese and Garlic Naan, which was not oily, which is the norm, so it was great. A great evening was had by all and no complaints about the food.

Had dinner with friends here recently after a long time. The food continues to be excellent however the service was very bad. It was busy during my visit however three staff were standing around talking and despite my friends trying to get their attention many times they totally ignored us.When the food was being served the waitress passed the meals over the friends head. Not a great dining out experience.
16/02/2017 - While I had bad experience with this restaurant before I thought to give it another go on valentines day for takeaway. Had already factored the fact that will be a busy night so ordered early before the rush. The food was so bad that it makes my previous visit look good. Vindaloo was sweet, everyone knows vindaloo so be hot... well we got sweet vindaloo and malai kofta ( the reason for my visit to Kashmir over the years) looked like someones sick... Ordered a garlic naan and plain naan and received two plain naan but paid for what we ordered. Needless to say that was the worst indian meal I have had. Its a shame as this used to be my favourite indian place on the shore and definitely not going back. To add insult to injury I rang them next day to provide feedback and the most rude arrogant manager Angeline helped me make up my mind never ever to go back and not to recommend the place for their good food but more to warn people not to bother wasting their money. The owner obviously does not care looking at all the similar feedback on this page. I think reading the feedback ( after I had the experience) I am not the only person who enjoyed their hospitality.

Easily one of the best indian restaurant in the town. Although I love chicken n non veg in general there's a lot of options for veg as well.
Raspberry Beret
One of the best curries around. Great service and nice surroundings. Very reasonably priced and an extensive menu. Have been 4 times now and had a great experience each time.

Have never dined in but we frequently come here for takeaways. The food previously has been pretty average but since moving to where the Civic Video store used to be the food has become a lot tastier. The curries we have had are all wonderful (especially the Rogan Josh) and you never have to worry about not getting enough rice. We always have a lot left over. The naan can sometimes be burnt but is usually well cooked and tasty. Will continue to come here.

A typical of Indian in nz, nothing spectacular but no less a lovely restaurant, lovely staff, food was same ole same ole however all round good night :)

If you like eating in an atmosphere like an old peoples home, complete with high volume talk of their elderly dietary health issues, etc.. Then you may enjoy this restaurant.

Slow service and curry that seems to be made to cater to the elderly's tastes (stewy, overdone and bland, and low quality fatty meat.)
The mango lassi was lovely but the rest was substandard, very disappointing.

My partner and I order takeaways from here once a week or so and love it so we decided to dine in a few days ago. We were seated fast, given water and ordered our drinks which came out pretty fast. We ordered the chicken tikka, samosas and the mixed entree platter. The chicken tikka had a nice flavour to it but unfortunately it was extremley dry and chewy. The two large samosas were really bland and over cooked on the outside. The mixed platter was pretty much a plate with a mountain of onion bhagi - which was over cooked/fried, all we could taste was oil! More of the chicken tikka - which was still dry and chewy, and some other type of meat/sausage which didn't have a lot of flavour to it. For main we shared a butter chicken with 2 plain naan bread. The butter chicken was delicious as always. It was creamy, spicy and the chicken was nice and soft and the naan were thick, fluffy and well cooked. We noticed that throughout dinner from when we arrived, that the staff just stood still, in a group by the counter the whole hour and a half we were there. They weren't walking around or doing anything which we found a little odd. I still would happily get takeaways from here, but probably won't be dining in again.
Sarah
Best Indian on the shore food is always delicious and service is great. Worth the drive to Milford now their Albany branch has closed. Great variety on the menu too for meat eaters and vegetarians too.

The quality of the food is always of a high standard, and the service is fast and friendly. Having tried most of their curries I have yet to be dissapointed. On this particular occassion I had a particularly good Chicken Korma. The best curry this side of Takapuna.

Nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Have come here many times without fault in service or the food. Food is always so good and staff very friendly. Will keep coming back for sure. Would be awesome if they opened for lunch service though........

The family and I just love Kashmir, close to home, warm inviting feel and most important GREAT tasting food every time! I can't fault them, go give them a try, eating in or take aways.

Had a great meal at Kashmir. Food was lovely and the staff were very attentive even taking group photos for us, food came very quickly, so excellent night all round

Have been going to Kashmir for many years and the food is always excellent, and the service can't be faulted. BYO and licensed. The price for a glass of wine if you haven't gone down the BYO route is very reasonable

Have been Kashmir regulars for years both dine in and take away. Always receive great service and can never fault the quality of the food. Great food, great value!

Visited their newly renovated place last week but not really impressed how they did it,from outside looks like is not a restaurant with their dark funny windows, inside is not nice is ok just ok.Meals were not good burned and old not fresh.Really not happy from their service the lady who served us rushed us to order and didn not offered any drinks. We will not come back again bad service, bad meals.
Susan Shoemark
Heard some great reviews from colleagues who were quick to rate them, didn't even take the chance to try them after calling to make a takeaway order and the woman on the phone was so rude. She never confirmed that I had even reached the restuarant, nor did she seem interested in taking any orders.

Pity, the menu looked pretty good.
Kelly Belgian
Great takeaways, always fast places like Ravis take at least 20mins but it was only 10 here just got a top up for my phone and it was ready! Came on Friday too when it was so busy. Must have a lot of staff working out back! :) :) :) will be in again soon!
Monica Flieshman
Only heard about menu mania through a friend, been having quite a lot of fun assessing my dining experiences over the past year!. We came last night. Kashmir Milford was super busy Wow-wee! Completely full and masses of takeaways. No wonder they have to move to the ol' Civic. It was our first time here in ages, we had come in Dec last year and were disappointed with both food and service however thought we would give in another try. So happy with the turn around, food and service was amazing! (new management possibly? granted it was our first time coming on a Friday, possibly more experienced staff..) The Indian girl who served us (who was mostly at the counter, possibly manager? or relative?) was great and was able to recommend the perfect wine to go with our red meat dishes, she even went into the detail with the peppery character of the Sileni and how it would compliment. Love it when the staff of a restaurant are well trained in all areas of their cuisine. It is always disappointing when staff don't know anything about their own beverages, they don't seem to realise how big a difference wine can make to the meal itself. The first time we came in December we asked about the best wine to go with our dishes to which the very young looking girl-child shrugged her shoulders and looked at us blankly. The blonde girl also didn't know what any of the dessert was. Glad that Kashmir has brushed their staff up on the menu items. :) keep it up!

Previous review: Came on Monday, group of five of us. We booked over the phone and asked for a window table which was reserved and waiting for us when we arrived as was the highchair we asked for. The girl was really genuine and friendly. Ordered starters and mains which were divine! the chicken came on this sizzling smokey plate which caused the whole restaurant to look when it came by. Curries were perfect heat and meat cooked to perfection. Service was outstanding which is something I don't say often (I'm a pretty harsh critic) I even left a tip which is something I rarely do (I hope that our waitress got to keep it!) It was quite bustling for a Monday which surprised us but guess it goes to show how good the food is! A couple critiques I would give though is that they seemed slightly understaffed for the amount of people they were serving, also there are no kids meals which was a bit of a disappointment, although my 1 year old loved her nan bread. Nonetheless it was a terrific night out and we will definitely be back! A+++

Current review: Standards have dropped massively. New decor, upmarket and nice but no sense of friendliness. Food was only average as well. Not keen to come back.
Michael Robson
We got take away from here recently and I afraid to say it was pretty awful! We ordered a mango chicken dish which was bland with chewy squares of chicken and the gravy was like soup. Agree with comments from another user questioning whether the management has changed. We ate here approximately a year ago and the standard then was much better. Would suggest if you want a good curry to look elsewhere.
ClaireP
We used to frequent this place and were finding it exemplary, however, in the last 6 months or so it seems to have deteriorated, to the point that we will not go back. (Has the management changed?) The food is not as nice now, and last week one dish we've had a lot was far too salty. We mentioned this, but did not receive an apology nor an offer of refund. The service is patchy at best (inconsistent). But our big issue is, dare I say it, we think the food is heated up in a microwave! We have sat within earshot of the kitchen, and we know what microwave beeping sounds like, and we have watched to see what they do, and it does seem that the reason the food is served so quickly is that it is already made & just heated! Am I alone in thinking that this is just not right?! Also, the light switch (hanging out from wall) in ladies toilet is a potential electrical hazard waiting to happen - I hope they fix that soon, but we will not return to find out.

Great service! Great food! Great Quality. You go to these indian restaurants like ravis, bollywood, masala e.t.c with ten dollar mains that are not worth the time they took to prepare. At least at Kashmir, when you go you pay a wee bit extra but u get top notch food and service. Remember everyone, you get what you pay for. At kashmir you get more than you pay for. That's what i like to see in a restaurant.

OMG... We stayed at a local campsite and ordered £60 worth of takeaway, when it arrived it was in a right old state all the food was mixed up and half the order was missing.. we went to the shop to get the rest of the order and took it back to the caravan... what can I say "not fit for human consumption"... worst food I have ever tasted "FACT" took it all back and they refunded the money without even saying sorry or offering to replace it.. They were more interested in making sure it was all there... you have been warned!!!!!
Shady
We have never eaten in, but always get our indian takeaways here. Always consistant. Must say - I've never come across a grumpy staff member and we've been ordering food here for many years.
Chick :)
good food exactly as ordered, to suit dairy free needs. Nice atmosphere, welcoming and homely. Service was OUTSTANDING. The girls are very beautiful and professional in their work, and never hesitate in making it the optimum restaurant experience.
Linda
Went there for a friend's birthday. I ordered the butter chicken, mild, and was just right. Not even spicy but didn't lack flavour. Wasn't too greasy and just the right amount portion-wise. Naan bread was my favourite and was cooked very well. Poppadoms were too salty for me and struggled to finish it. We're very crisp though. Service was very horrible and wouldn't let us pay separately.
Dave Brooker
This restaurant always delivers the curry with consistency. As a regualr I find I get what I have asked for with no issues. Price is cheap but so are most indian restaurants - curry rice an naan is cheaper than going to KFC for instance.
Staff can be a bit sour at times, that's the problem when it is not staffed in the traditional way by family. Best ever indian restaurant used to be Moghuls on Lorne st - wonder if they are still going elsewhere?
When you ask for hot it is just right for me - which would probably be a medium in the UK, as Kiwi's don't seem to like spicy food (hence the proliferation of butter chicken). Please don't start flaming me - it's a fact :)
Recommend this place for a cheap takeaway or group meal. Decor is a bit dated but that s reflected in the price of the food.
Barbara
We are never disappointed with the food or the service. We rate Kashmir Milford THE BEST Indian restaurant in Auckland. Meals are always fresh and very tasty and the service is prompt and efficient. Keep up the good work
Dhumketu
It was Sunday. We were very hungry and was looking for some authentic Indian food, but all we got was disappointment at Kashmir .
The name of dishes has no resemblance to what was actually being served. e.g parantha was just a hard and thick chapatti cut into the triangular shape.
The main curry was expected to be hot but it was sweet in taste even after asking specifically for a spicy hot flavour. Very surprisingly
crew hurriedly removed some of the dishes which were yet to be finished. Moreover its quite expensive compared to other restaurants in North shore. Definitely not worth for food lovers.
Dean
Food is great, however the most unfriendly service you'll get.
Alan
We are regular customers of Kashmir. The food is Excellent,it has lovely Indian decor and we always get what we ask for (some Indian restaurants serve from the same pot - mild or hot!!)The prices are reasonable, the service very good and as long as these standards are maintained we shall indeed continue to recommend and patronise Kashmir.
