Review Zarbo Cafe & Deli - Auckland Central

I had a High tea voucher for four people, I like the plates desgin, food was great, the scones we're delicious, fluffy and full of flavor, there drinks were nice flavor. , we offered the drinks menu when we arrived, food served after the drinks for short time which is great. The good thing they have parking which is great but what let them down is the service and table setting, I went to ask for a napkins and there wasn't any cutleries on the table so I went to get some from one of the tables.

It was such a lovely experience for my husband and I. We both enjoyed our share platter for breakfast & of course the taste of coffee ‘s one of the best in town. It has its own Carpark as well. Will definitely go back!

Been here a couple times, always a fan of the bakery. However, this is my first time to try the high tea, not surprisingly, yum! Thank you for the good customer services :) Cheers!

Spacious cafe with friendly staff, had the high tea there and was delicious, highly recommend!

The free upstairs parking was a huge bonus. Parking is usually a nightmare in the area. The cafe is spacious and well presented. Staff were friendly and efficient. I ordered a panini and coffee. Both were pretty good. I’d recommend a visit

Hi, We bought a groupons voucher for 8 people for high tea, for our 10yr old nieces birthday. We hoped that the hungry wee ones would approve & we were not disappointed. The food was excellent value for money, and the guy who was managing the cafe that day was very sweet and super helpful. We even asked if he had gluten free options for my sister in law and he brought out another selection just for her,, we are very thankful. And to boot we couldnt even finish the food, so took the rest home for the kids to snack on. Thank you again!!

Great parking spot. Makes it easier!!! Food was great. When i specified i was in a rush, they made sure the food came asap. Staff made sure the order was done as they came up twice to make sure the order was done. Great service. Food was great :)

The platter was fantastic! Thanks for a great Valentine's Day!

I really wanted to like Zarbo. Good parking, great atmosphere. Helpful staff. The coffee was ordinary though and my toast was stale. My partner was very happy with her meal.

Simply best cafe with best hospitality & my "Big breakfast". I visit this cafe frequently after dropping my son to his school. Hot chocolate with Big breakfast normally make my day fulfill always ...

I purchased a high tea voucher from Groupon for 8 people. I was hosting a baby shower. Zarbo seated us on the comfiest side of the cafe and had our food bought out to us immediately. The ladies had never experienced High Tea ever before and they absolutely loved the experience. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Staff were super kind! Thank you Zarbo for a wonderful experience.

The worse customer service experience I’ve ever had. I redeemed Groupon voucher and went to the store. The staffs there were rude, inpatient and insisting there’s no booking on list. I did call to cancel the booking one day before it cause I wanted to change the booking a bit earlier on the same day. But the previous booking’s still on the app and I couldn’t rebook, so I went to the store with my friend on the original booking time. What happened next was just unbelievable. The “owner” asked me if I called to cancel the booking the day before. I said yes. I was about to explain then he just said “You need to book again, there’s no more food today.” and left. My friend and I were standing there with our mouths open,we couldn’t believe what happened. Firstly, I was not begging you to give food to me. Secondly, I would be fine if I needed to rebook and come back again if you explained the reason to me nicely. Thirdly, I understand it’s cheap stuff so I didn’t have any expectation on service, but the encounter was shockingly disturbing. With no respect at all. It’s so unprofessional to treat your customers like that. Of course this isolating experience won’t affect your business at all, but I saw the similar experience in reviews which makes me feel a bit better, at least I’m not the only one. Personally, I won’t rebook again and I hope more people to go to your store to experience it.

I had high tea with my family with voucher. I love my latte, my family had different tea each. Table is not too close to next, relax. Foods are fresh and plenty. I love fluffy scone. My daughter bought Kapiti ice cream when we left cafe ( they have Kapiti ice cream counte in the cafer) big single scoop was only $3!!

Had high tea here with a friend on a bustling Sunday morning. The place was packed, people were coming and going, very happy vibe. Got our drinks before our food came out. Ordered a chai latte which was beautiful as always , my friend gor herself a hot chocolate which she enjoyed. The scones were beautiful with the addition of fresh cream and jam. Everything served was equally tasty to me. Highly recommend a bunch of girlfriends meeting up for brunch here.

My partner and I came to Zarbo for High Tea. Firstly I loved the design on the plates and stand, the service was nice as well. Our drink orders were taken when we walked in so they arrived before the food and we were able to enjoy the sun and drinks. I really enjoyed the Chai Latte, in fact I believe it was the best I have had in a long time.

We really enjoyed the food and it really hit the spot. Sadly the tea was lacking flavour and having seating right next to a sign which buzzes when a car is coming ruins the experience a bit.

Overall we will definitely be back for High Tea

Loved the wonderful coffee and delicious high tea at zarbo cafe this morning with Rachael Te Wano it was divine and would recommend to all. I'm taking my friend there for high tea.

It has been a while since I was here and Zarbo is still serving good food. We had lovely freshly made steak pie and huge sausage roll. Very tasty and would have it again. Service was good. Friendly staff. They have the tallest waiter that we have ever seen and he was very efficient. Must admit that would come back to try the high tea as we were surrounded by these stacking towers of morsels in neighbouring tables. They looked good.

I was intrigued by the look of my slice and so excited to try it... however, it was a disappointment. My companions also found their slices sickly sweet and not enjoyable. The date scone got an up-vote, and it was large so easy to get a spacious table.

Very bad experience. I bought Groupon voucher, booked. Due to some family reason, forgot to cancel the booking. I called them and asked about why the voucher is redeemed. They said the food has been prepared. We didn't turn up, so the food is wasted. It was totally not the truth. I can't believe that the egg and sausage need to be cooked beforehand. I bought the another voucher at the same time and waiting half an hour for the food and not too many people there. We won't go there again!

Came here for high tea and wasn't disappointed. However I wish they had asked if we had any dietary requirements as I couldn't eat any of the meat items like the bacon and the sausages. I would've seen happier with an extra crossaint or plain bread. Overall the food itself (what I could eat) was yum and fresh.

Use to go here 2 years ago and get their French toast. Had one full pan fried bananas and lots of bacon and now.. not even one banana and 1 piece of undercooked bacon. Plus they have bumped up the price from $14 to $17! Not worth the money I paid at all.

Amazing 💙😍😍😍👏👏👏 satisfied found a new go to place 😁 service is great too 😁 so much different selections on menus want to try everything !

Used a Groupon voucher here, had the breakfast for two which was just amazing. It took 15-20min for our food to arrive but that just because the food is super fresh and made wile you wait. Can't wait to go back.

Purchased the high tea on grabone. The food was really nice and portion is huge, was really full afterwards. There's a few selection of tea, great smell. It's definitely worth the price.

Had my baby shower at Zarbo today. High tea for 12 of us. Subash, the manager at Zarbo and the team went out of their way to make this a special day for me. The food was amazing- the brownies, scones and shortbread were to die for. The savoury stuff was equally good. Our coffees and teas were piping hot and amazing. Service was impeccable, everyone was so caring, friendly and professional. They were very accomodating and allowed us to decorate and personalised our corner and table. Parking is right behind the cafe so it's very convenient. Highly recommend Zarbo for special occasions or even if you want to have a relaxed catch up with great food and coffee/tea.

A high tea at Zarbo. There was a good variety of food, mostly well-chosen & prepared. (The covered photo did, of course, look better.) I like tea which came with loose leaves in a pot (not tea bags). Coffee was hot & nice. We were full & happy not to have Kapiti ice-creams after tea.

Been here for high tea and brunches a few times. It's nothing fancy but I think everything were tasty! The teas and the coffees are great.. the star of the show was definitely the scone! They are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The combination of cream and jam is just beautiful.

The only complaint I had is the fact that the service was quite bad. No one came to take our drink orders until the food arrives, no cutleries nor drink menus were given until we asked. But otherwise they do decent food
Joanna.pender19
Don't even bother

Been twice as have them the benefit of the doubt for the awful service and low standard of food the first time

More fool me and tots waste of money

Service was lacklustre and the manager on the day was clearly stressed and going off at the staff. Totally unprofessional

Food was a joke

Stale bread and cold savouries

The fish was smelly which isn't ever good

The cakes also old stale and lil little bricks

They bought the food but no cutlery. When we asked they got huffy as if we were causing them annoyance

Coffee was so so

I talked to a staff member about making a complaint. They contacted the owner who passed the buck and said go back to Groupon but not our problem

So very disappointed with the whole experience and all I can say is you would be better off at McDonald's

I used to come here for breakfast meetings several years ago and always enjoyed my morning coffee. I came for brunch a week or so ago and ordered the eggs benedict and a latte. I couldn't fault the food and the coffee was fine but nothing has changed over the years and the menu is totally predictable.
I was given a number to slot into the whatsit on the table, the card had seen better days long long ago. Just a matter of printing out a few new ones and getting them laminated, but seems to be beyond the current management. The actual service was very good.
FoodMakesMeHappy
Horrible horrible experience here. First I was asked by the waiter more than twice why we were not getting any food from the menu. I wanted to ask if anything was wrong to eat from the cabinet. I ordered bacon and egg slice which was burnt in the corners from over cooking in the microwave. Also ordered chicken and salad. The chicken was not cooked thoroughly. They first said that it was from cranberry stuffing but when I showed and explained that it was right next to the bones deep in where no stuffing could reach, they took it to the chef and came back saying that its still okay to eat. Everybody knows, uncooked chicken is dangerous! Even 1 on the rating is too much for them.

Went here with a voucher off group on for the breakfast for two platter last May it had eggs benedict, bacon, muffins, sausages it was very good.

nothing extra amazing to rave about, felt average. food was okay. prob wouldnt return based on that. free parking which is always a plus....
Donna&Shane
Been here on and off over the years-like once every year. I was hungry so popped in for a bite. Service friendly, tables needed a wipe down as did the one I used but no offer and noticed a guy clearing tables but none actually got wiped down. Ordered the chicken burger - had to ask for cutlery. The burger was nice though.

I'll keep this brief. Like our time here. As we left within 15 minutes of arriving.
Service - really good, lovely, friendly staff clearly overworked.
Ambience - cold, uninviting, messy.
Coffee - Great - clearly a very skilled barista
Food - Dreadful. Omelette was burnt and dry. BBQ chicken left us worrying about our state of health for the next 24 hours.
Wouldn't return.
We've walked in attracted by displayed sandwiches . The looked yam! The stuff upsold the full brunch option and we gladly stayed. I can boldly state that they've got the most DISSAPPOINTING french toast! It was burnt on one side, I couldn't cut through it! The kitchen forgot to include 1/3 of ingredients mentioned on menu. Noone apologized, noone asked how the food was..and as we were leaving the place stuff sort of pretended they didn't see us :) Ruined Saturday brunch is very upsetting. Good thing there are plenty of other options around.
NakedChef
Went here for breakfast on a Sunday. Great coffee.....but the breakfast.... for the price.... undercooked potatoes, undercooked mushrooms, and everything else? Average. How do you undercook mushrooms!?

Have had the Groupon high tea here a few times. It used to be good but sadly it gets progressively worse each time.

2016: absolutely fantastic. The tables were set up with all the fine bone China teacups and saucers. The high tea sets had lots of options. The were very accommodating and friendly. 4.5/5 stars

2017: the first time in this year the staff were still very friendly and flexible with the food as we had one friend who had just decided to go gluten free without letting the staff know. They were nice enough to make her a last minute gluten free option.
3.5/5 stars
The second time later in this year was bad. The food was cold and the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. 2.5/5 stars

2018: Here to celebrate a birthday and practically had the plates thrown at us onto the table. The waiter seemed like he did not want to be there and was angry he had to work. No serviettes were handed out. We had to self serve water and serviettes.
2/5 stars

I do like how they have free parking in the busy Newmarket area.

Worst Cafe I have ever been to. Horrible staff, food and service. Actually mind blown at the service we received from all the staff there. I will not be going back!!

Coffee, food was brilliant. Full of favour. I got the chicken burger which was crispy. Coffee was great. My mother got Salmon salad, which was light and tasty. The place was nice needs a bit of a clean

They have a good selection of food here, and the service is fast even if they're busy. The coffee was good, the salmon bagel was ok too - liked the bagel by itself. Its good to be able to get a large sized coffee also.
Stephy_NakiGirl
It's great to have a cafe open so early in Newmarket for that pre-work coffee. It's nice & warm inside, has newspapers & the service is mostly good. They have a good selection of cabinet food, a menu, and some great food options to take home for dinner when you feel like 'homemade' but don't have time.
On this visit I felt like something simple & didn't have a lot of time so ordered a toasted bagel & coffee in a takeaway cup. The coffee was well made & promptly delivered. Strangely the bagel took ages to come & I had to follow up - you'd think it would be so quick to toast a bagel? The bagel was ok - a bit thicker than normal but the jam was nice.

I had a lovely high tea experience with my friend. My friend highly recommended this place for their coffees and pastries. She was right! 😊 I've been here a few times for coffees. It was a just my luck that I had seen their Groupon voucher for high tea.

We had booked in advance and was greeted and seated. Ambience was very cozy and getting packed with their lunch crowd. The waitress handed us the drinks menu and I ordered a flat white and my friend ordered a pot of vanilla tea. Their flat white was superb. Strong and full of flavour. You can tell they use quality coffee beans. Their teas are of high quality and they have a wide selection of teas to select from.

The high tea consisted of scones, sausage rolls, quiches, sandwiches, blueberry cheesecake, butter cookies and brownies. They all came in twos and mini versions. My favourite was the savouries and cheesecake. However thoroughly enjoyed all of the mini treats :)

Definitely a lovely experience, although customer service needs to improve a tad. I felt the staff was crowding too much in the front of the cashier. They should be more attentive and checking to see if customers require any assistance.

Zarbo is a spacious cafeteria for the grown up feel kind of place. Their vinegar tester selections next to the salads cabinet by the entrance have always lured me, especially on the way back from the nearby mall. Also nearby school teachers and office workers in suits like to hang out here, so why not try out some of their salads?
Sherry
I had a high tea with a friend here, the food was pretty good, the flat white was nicely made. Sadly the customer service is severely lacking. 2 points for the coffee, 1 point for the food.

We bought a voucher for High tea for 2. There were 3 of us and we still couldn't finish it off. I had my elderly mother and aunt with me and the young man ( Josh ) that greeted and seated us was absolutely awesome. He was so helpful and friendly. And of course the food was yummy. They also gave us a little bag to take the uneaten treats home in

We had high tea here recently and unfortunately I have to say that it was a very disappointing experience. We booked online and gave the reference number. When we arrived, they asked for the barcode, which I didn't realise was needed (as I had already given them a reference number at the time of booking & just bought a copy of the confirmation email) The female staff member was a bit rude and made us all stand in the way near the cash register as I tried to find the email on my phone. Luckily a lovely young waiter came over and said he'd get us seated first and then I could find it. Despite pre booking, they hadn't prepared a table for us, so we found a table for four (that was dirty and in an awkward spot) and crammed in. The male waiter cleaned the table and helped me find the details he needed and then took our coffee order. The coffee was large, hot and perfectly made and food itself was lovely but a few further things really spoiled the experience. The high tea stand had come loose, so was on a big lean and didn't look stable. A lot of people around us had left and the tables were not cleaned afterwards so there was a lot of flies. We noticed several people arriving for the high tea who were taken to dirty tables and there was a couple of ladies who declined to sit at the dirty table and instead stood awkwardly waiting for one to be cleaned before they sat down. It's such a shame because the place always seems quite full and the food and drink was great but we wouldn't go back based on our experience. I feel sorry for our male waiter who was very obviously trying to pull everything together on his own. Hopefully it was just a bad day, maybe they had some staff of sick or something which didn't help - so hopefully we were just unlucky.
Miss Terry Foodie
It's our first time to try high tea and this place did not disappoint. Friendly staff who knows their stuff so they were able to help us with any questions about the food. I personally enjoyed the wide variety of finger foods, both sweet and savoury. Although, I would say that some of their sweets are a bit too sweet for my liking. Overall, enjoyed our high tea experience here.
Martin Brown
Top marks to Zarbo for their most delicious High Tea. There was a generous quantity of sweet and savory food and two good-sized pots of tea. The staff were friendly and efficient.

Zarbo is quite a large cafe, which is a little off the beaten track from the busy Newmarket locations but is easy enough to walk to from Broadway (2 mins).

I used to visit this cafe almost daily, for a coffee and breakfast a few times a week. The food at Zarbo's I don't think would disappoint most critics, their cabinet food always looks amazing.

With the exception of one or two servers, the staff are very abrupt and unfriendly - they seem to have fun in the kitchen and behind the counter, but not too many smiles are reserved for the customer. Perhaps its just me!?

The coffee is average, in the true sense of the word - nothing special and not horrible, although occasionally I wonder if they've forgotten to put the coffee in the flat white... Recommend ordering a triple shot if you want something that resembles a good double shot.

As mentioned, this cafe large and has a lot of floor space, this makes it a good place to have meetings, or spread out a little.

So for me, the food and the layout earn it the stars, the service and coffee stop it from getting any more stars.
Christina
Came here with a friend after purchasing a voucher- high tea for 2 for $25, instead of the usual $26.50 per person.

Was so excited as had never had high tea before. Had to book online about 2 weeks prior. When we arrived we were shown immediately to our table. We were offered a range of teas and coffees to choose from. Once they took our drink orders they left. 10 mins later they came back with the drinks- I chose earl grey which came in a neat china tea cup set, and my friend had a standard hot chocolate.

Our food arrived 10 mins later, and I have to say I was quite disappointed. The sizes of the foods were so small- the 2 scones that came with our stand were the size of 50 cent coins! They also didn't provide us with much of each- usually just enough for 1 per person. A lot of it also looked and tasted like cabinet food, even the club sandwiches were a little stale and clearly made several hours earlier. The mini sausage rolls were nice, but again, such small portions. Given that we had to book in advance, I expected at least some if not most of it to be freshly made within the last hour. The only positive thing about the whole event was the attentive waitress who served us.

We left quite disappointed- and glad we didn't pay more nor will we bother returning. To charge $26.50 per person for average quality food in small portion sizing is a rip off.
Mrs Bobabits
Went there for the Groupon high tea deal today. High tea was smaller than we expected. The service was pretty average. Overall we were disappointed.
Travels4Food
Eggs benedict with a potato hash instead of the usual muffin. With smoked salmon. Potato a little tasteless. Plenty of hollandaise sauce. Nothing special.

Always have the best scones here and love their range of Charlie's fizzy can drinks. Coffee is great although sometimes takes ages to make at busy times. Heaps on the menu and salads always available from the counter. Only gripe is I wish you did more vegetarian Paninis, sandwiches and salads in the cabinet!

I had a booking for high tea for 4 people today, fabulous service, really enjoyed ourselves. The selection and the variety of food that was available for our high tea was delicious. Great coffee too!!! Before walking out we noticed the amazing selection of food from the deli section, we all purchased our lunch from there before leaving!!! great value for great quality food. Amazing and friendly staff, amazing selection of food...THANK YOU - we will definitely be coming back!!!

Just went to zarbo today for high tea using the groupon voucher. It was a little disappointing because I heard great things regarding this cafe. The food served was not half as pretty as shown on the as advertisement. The portions were really small. For savory items for each there were 1 small slice of sandwich, a really small piece of sausage roll (less then 1/4 of the usual size from one you get from bakery), and 2 mini tarts around the size of a 20c coin. Then there were the sweet item, there were 4 items there for each person. There were: 1 piece of ginger tart and 1 piece of walnut tart (again 1/4 of the size from the ones in the food cabinet outside), 1 piece of some kind of chocolate, and 1 piece of white chocolate coated strawberry. I am not sure if it's because we were using the groupon or not but honestly felt the portion of the food was really small. However I can't complain too much as it was only $50 for 4 people. But I would feel rather ripped off if I were to pay the original price of $27 per person.

However one negative point was the tea cups. The tea cup they served us were really stained. I didn't really pay too much attention to it at first until after the staff set up our table and said "the cup might look stained but it's clean". So I assume there were customers previously complaining about that. However I do have to say my tea cup was not that clean. There was some sort of food scrap on the side of the cup. I didn't care too much and just cleaned the cup with a piece of tissue but just thought I should comment on this.

Overall is a very average tea high experience, really nothing special. I don't think I will return again for the high tea but maybe might give their other food a chance later in the future.

Good location.. We went here with my friends yesterday. We expirienced Lovely lunch with friendly staff who served us well..they served big portion of food which i can't finish it was delicious with a great value for the price. I am a coffee lover too so we ordered mochaccino and flat white this is one of the best mocha i ever had and not to forget the barista named subash who made our great coffee for this day. Highly recommended..thank you for the fantastic expirience.. ☕🍝😊

Such yummy food, the staff are really nice and the shop is full of goodies.... I'll be back for sure and a bonus is the new Kapiti ice cream bar.. Such a cool place to go!!!

I used to work over in 277 and Zarbo was a cafe recommended to me by a work colleague. She goes to Zarbo every lunch break she works and so I decided to try it out!

With only a 30 minute break, I didn't feel as though I had enough time to fully experience what Zarbo had to offer. They were definitely busy at lunch time but their service was still very friendly. The bacon and egg bap I ordered was pretty tasty! A bonus is the wide variety of cabinet food, which I am definitely happy about! The service and ambience here is great as well, and I can't wait to come back to try the coffee and the food!

Located in Newmarket on Morrow street and very close to a great fabric shop for all you sewing dames (or gents). This place is second on the list as I had never heard of it before and after some intensive Google searching I was keen to try this new place. I also used to work in Newmarket and never knew Zarbo even existed so I made it my duty to check it out.
Brenda Phu
The place is huge with a two floors, the decor is classic contemporary and very clean.
The service is welcoming and friendly. They check up on you to make sure you have everything and if you want anything else throughout the meal without prying.
I ordered a steak and pepper pie with beet salad on the side. For $10.20 the portion was fulling. The pie pastry was flakey and golden, but the filling lacked any flavour. The pepper seemed to only be decorating the lid; and the steak was cut too small or maybe overcooked because all I got was gravy. The salad had spicy rocket, chunks of sweet beetroot, crisp pear, grated carrot and celery which was balanced out nicely with their yoghurt dressing. But half of the beets I had were too-hard and not cooked all the way through, which was a shame.

Now, this is going to be hard.

Zarbo is my regular stop over the years, I almost want to defend it like defending Aunt May's cooking. And I think reviewing this place is a bit like reviewing my mum's cooking skills, rationally I know it's becoming average but it's too close to my heart for me to say anything negative.

I first started coming here just before it got hyped up, as a little school girl discovering this place was like having a glimpse of the fancy grown up world. Food was great, almond croissants were the bomb and I always wanted to save up and buy some interesting looking European tea just because they looked fancy.

Over the years with growing up and trying out different places, Zarbo's glory faded. And by reading a few reviews I realised it wasn't just my perceptions changing, the food did too. Nowadays it's a good 3 stars cafe with nothing too fancy but you won't be disappointed either. It's usually the place I'd pick when I'm too lazy to come up with somewhere nice but needs a place for some familiar food.

Oh btw, somewhere in my memory I remember their red velvet cake for some reason. So if they happen to have that when you're there, try it out! Along with the almond croissants I think deserves a special place.

It was super busy on a Saturday morning and had a very Farro/Nosh deli feel to it with the food displays. There was a shop area off to the right, and the cafe/eating area around to the left. As soon as I walked in I could smell good coffee… I was impressed!

Once we arrived we were shown to our nicely set-up table (we pre-ordered the High Tea) and asked which tea we wanted, they have a ‘tea wall’ which I thought was cute where you could walk over and pick from the selection and they would brew it for you. Carl was allowed to have a coffee under the same cost which was good to know for those who may not actually like drinking tea. Me and my mum picked an English Breakfast and an Earl Grey. All the tea cups and plates were mismatched and super cute. I’m not going to lie when I thought about smuggling it all home in my handbag. We were each given a teapot to ourselves and I was able to get 3 full cups of tea from my pot.

When the beautiful stands were brought out we were given nine items to try each, five savoury and four sweet. I have listed what we received below:
Scones with cream and jam
Coconut and Raisin Slice
Chocolate Cupcakes with Salted Caramel/Cream Cheese Frosting
Apricot Slice
Warm Frittata
Mini Sausages wrapped in pastry (so good!)
Sausage Rolls
High Tea Sandwiches with Cucumber/Ham as well as Egg and Spinach

All the food was extremely fresh, delicious, well cooked and full of flavour. I could easily have scoffed it all by myself HOWEVER… sharing is caring. I’m not sure whether what we got was the ‘standard’ or whether the high tea menu actually changes occasionally.
This was the only high-tea option that Zarbo offers, and was $26.50 per person. I thought it was a great price for the amount of food and tea we were given. They offer a Gluten-free high tea for all you GF people – they also have a full vegetarian and halal version (yay for options). You just need to mention this when you make your booking so they can make sure everything is prepared for you on the day.

If I was to have any critique it would be the raisin slice we were given as part of the sweet options ( you can see it at the top next to the apricot slice) – personally I’m not a fan of raisins and didn't enjoy it (I gave it to Carl). It’s totally minor and something that wouldn't deter me from going back at all, it just means next time I have more room for trying other tea flavours! The highlight for me was the apricot slice – it was sweet but had a tangy kick to it. Carl and my mum both loved the frittata and the sausage rolls.

Super tasty!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Clearly this is a place for foodies - much like a deli, Zarbo has a fantastic selection and display of gourmet foods and kitchen products. I was entranced by the 'wall of tea' display and the great assortment of peanut butter varieties. Within the store was plenty of seating and we managed to grab a table with ease on a Sunday morning.

FOOD: As we already had breakfast, I decided to sample some of the homemade truffles. The 'Elysium' and 'Bird of Paradise' truffles had beautiful citrus notes and a creamy velvety centre to boot. Next time is love to try their great looking salads and savoury options.

COFFEE: Orb coffee, both strong and smooth tasting.

SERVICE: Standard. The waitress accidentally dropped my chosen truffle on the floor but was quick to apologise and replace.

An appealing store/cafe set in a spacious setting. Keen to come back for lunch options.

Z's always buzzing, I like popping in for a quick bite whenever I have time and I enjoy their coffee. When available, I always opt for a few pieces of their beautifully baked ham off the bone w. a side salad. You should try it!

Have been visiting Zarbo since April
Their steak pies score perfect in every aspect yet the chicken & mushroom pie I'm having right now is a bit disappointing.

My mother and I each ordered frittatas when we went to Zarbo in New Market, they were brilliant. The raspberry dark chocolate we also purchased from the deli section is still being snacked on! Overall, the food was amazing, the service could have been better, but it was lovely :).

Loved this cafe and is in the heart of new market. I am in new market a lot and always choose zarbo cause I know I'm going to get a good meal. The price on food is good and staff are so welcoming. Always a returning customer. Makes me not want to eat out at other cafes. Thanks, Sue

Disappointing! The place was busy but we managed to find a seat at the back, all the other vacant tables were still piled with dirty dishes. We ordered the big breakfast (eggs scrambled), steak sandwich and kids crepes.

The meals were fairly standard but neither came out as described or requested! Eggs in the big breakfast came out poached - not scrambled, there was definitely no kranksy sausage just a plain pork one and presentation was pretty sloppy. Just piled high with potatos. The steak sandwich came with french fries, not potatos! And limp cos not cress. Miss 3 enjoyed the crepes but we didn't get the bacon or banana on the side as requested.

Staff at counter were very friendly. The zarbo deli does some great dressings which are of offer to sample and my partner did enjoy his flat white. But all in all with so many other great dining options in the area, Zarbo needs to step it up!!

Good coffee and reasonably good cafe food. Their salads in the cabinet looked fresh and appealing and I'm sure it would have tasted the great. Service with a smile but I'm sure the place could do with some updating, it is looking very tired now.

On the down side the table still had someone else's dishes left there the whole time. Collected the numbered card when the delivered the coffee but left the dishes!

Service quality was so inconsistent, with the person in charge of the deli a bit rude when one queried about drinks. Though service on the otherwise was friendly and great.
Food a bit disappointing, even if one had not heard great things about this place in the first place.

Dropped in for lunch last week and it was good. I've always had a soft spot for Zarbos and was impressed by it when we first came to NZ 10 years ago. I'd heard that it had 'gone off' but we had a great lunch. Great frittata - choice of 3 or 4 different options that all sounded great. Thai chicken cake really good .. some awesome wholesome unusual salads.

This is not a five star gourmet establishment it is a reasonably priced French feeling deli with a good atmosphere, interesting food, good coffee and reasonable service. Ideal no hassle option for lunch.

I continue to enjoy going there.

Your Gift Hamper goodies were so yummy!! Absolutely love the 'Bread & Butter Pickle'... I see you have the fabulous Sancha Nicholson on staff, I remember her own cafe had some very tasty delights. We'll be back

I used to love their pies but last time I visited this place in October, the pastry was unbelievably soggy and the lamb meat didn't taste nice. Another thing is that I was charged for the price of medium size salad when I ordered small size salad. And the girl at the counter didn't know how to use the machine to return my money after being reminded that she overcharged me. Service was average but very limited skills. Terrible food and I will never return to this place to try their pies again.

Called in for breaky for two on Sunday 25th August. This was my second visit in recent times. This is an updated review.

The physical cafe looks pretty good and has a deli attached. Cafe had small number of people in at the time of our visit.

The service was very good. Prompt, friendly and efficient. The team engage well with the customer.

Food was also very good, no complaints about how it was prepared or delivered.

Had the pleasure of meeting the Director of Zarbo at the premises this morning. He takes customer service and feedback seriously which is reassuring.

A visit here is recommended.

Zarbo's is one of my all time favorite places to go for lunch. The salads in the cabinet are absolutely amazing! Always delicious food and such a great selection. The hardest part is choosing!

Just had a beautiful lunch here... Friendly, cheerful staff, and a really nice selection of salads. I had a thai chicken noodle cake thingy which was so authentically thai in flavour and aroma despite being in a fusion format. Delicious roast kumara salad.

There were also a taste-testing of a selection of bread and dips in the deli side which I was too full to try, but there were lots of good looking cheeses etc too.

Old customer but no more. My coffee was forgotten entirely while the staff played behind the counter. Confirms previous experiences with mucked up orders. Only up side is the free parking.

We went for high tea were not impressed the service was lacking, for 26.50 the food was below average!! were never notified about anything , was wanting more food and tea but there was no interest in helping us at all. We were ready to pay more for extras.
Was very disappointed i am regular customer to zarbos but will not be coming back.

Came here for high tea and was very disappointed! Is it because it's one of those voucher special so the standard we were given was also CHEAP? Food on the 3tier stand was not very fresh and the sammys were old and dried up plus everyone who came after us were served ahead and we got a mismatched set n very plain tea pot n saucer while the rest had pretty matching sets! Why Zarbo? I used to love this place ! well not anymore!

Went here for high tea and won't be back. This business needs a wake-up call and soon! The staff were friendly, but disorganised. The food was poor and the premises, especially the toilets, were disgusting.
The coffee and tea were good.
We had to book for high tea, but I'm not sure why as it had clearly all been made in advance and kept in the fridge. It was all cold, and hard.
The sandwiches were too thick, and tasted horrible, although to be fair, ham or egg are not sandwich fillings I like anyway.
The little cakes would have been nice, had they not been cold and hard.
The scones were doughy and unrisen. Perhaps had they made them slightly bigger, they would have risen.
Also, for $54, I just expect fresh food, and more effort.
We had to pay for a second latte.
Trying to be shabby chic, but just shabby.
This is a premises that lacks management and leadership.

We went to Zarbo for High Tea and was very diassapointed as I was expecting something a little bit special. Firstly the china didn't match and the top on the teapot belonged to another teapot! The food was a mis- match all different shapes and sizes.....large sandwhiches on ciabata bread, very small savories, odd cakes and small scones and small pieces of turkish delight!
Not what one expects in a High Tea!I also thought it was all rather expensive.............dissapointing to say the least.

Went there for high tea. The food was alright but nothing to rave about. My wife didn't like the food. The scones were hard and rock like.

The person who brought our food needs to learn how to use deodorant. He smelt disgusting.

The seats and floor were dirty. The toilets were also not that great.
Ian
Went for lunch..
Very very disorganized place, appears to be no one managing the staff.
Tables were dirty as were the chairs so not very hygienic, with the staff just wiping the food crumbs from the table beside us onto the floor.

Food was okay, nicely presented but bread for my Beef Burger was a bit stale and the patty was VERY small. It was a VERY expensive burger in my mind considering you only get a burger and nothing else for $18.95.

Service, there wasn't any to speak of, this was lunch time and they were NOT busy. I can now see why.

We visited for lunch. Service was a shambles. My partner waited nearly 40 minutes for one of their microwave meals (there was little else available) - it never turned up. The food that did arrive was just edible but over-priced for what it was. We will not be visiting again.
David
Good variety of Salads, cakes and pastries. The coffee is OK. A place to go to if you just want to breakaway from your usual favourite eateries.

You won't be dissatisfied. It's a place where one goes to fill that cap.

I like to have brunch at Zarbo - my favourite is the vegie omelette - it is absolutely divine!
Rachael
Wow...went for lunch and what a complete disappointment!!!
Crap food, messy and dirty premises... Even our 10 year old daughter was disgusted
I even e-mailed Zarbo direct, lol, they didn't even reply..
When in business you should be listening to your customers guys...not ignoring them
Lynnette Xu
this is only for the coffee, the deli looked quite cute from where i was, not somewhere i could go often - it looks messy and unorganized (to say the least) but their coffee is quite good.
Belinda
The place is so dirty and tired. Have you seen the toilets??? I would never step foot in them let along eat the food. The place needs a really good clean.

interesting deli selection, tho gets tired & slightly overpriced after a while.. Eating from board menu is average, salmon overcooked, tho the eggs to perfection & breads always fresh.

Zarbo in Newmarket has been around for years and there is good reason. Across the road from 277, It is perfectly located for a break and a bite to eat when shopping. They have a great selection fresh salads, pies, bagels, menu items and sweet treats.

We all chose the same thing (great minds and all) and had the Zarbo bagel, cheese, ham, pickle and gerkin melted. It was delicious, to finish off we shared a slice of the chocolate tart, again perfection!

While there I always like to browse the deli selection as well, they have sauces, pickles, teas and so much more.....
Two Dark Coffees
At this time of year, I tend to head out to small cafes more often than I like to admit. Nothing beats being in a cosy cafe, with a good friend and a good feed.

Zarbo in Newmarket has been on my recommendation list this winter. I think you can always count of Zarbo for tasty pastries and fresh lunch ideas. I enjoy going to Zarbo on Morrow Street because they have their own private car park - which is free for customers - conveniently above the store. This gets rid of the 'where do I park' stress.
So far, Zarbo has won my best croissant award. Light and buttery which I personally think all croissants should be like, Zarbo gets it right every time. My usual order is a plain croissant and a large cappuccino but then my eye catches a glimpse of the almond croissant and some how that gets added to the receipt as well.

The store itself is modern and very spacious. I like their large glass cabinets displaying all their delicious treats. There service I find, is always friendly and welcoming but the only reason I'm giving Zarbo a 3 out of 5, instead of a 4 is the pricing. I bought 4 small ginger bread men which were $2 each. That's $8 on 4 ginger bread men the size of an average biscuit, plus they were the soft kind of ginger bread. I prefer when a ginger bread man has a crunch to it, therefore I was slightly disappointed. Other than Zarbo's food being slightly pricey, the atmosphere and overall feel of the place is good and its a chilled place to bring a friend or two for a bite to eat.

Top Tip: Walk in just before the lunch rush hour and you might grab yourself a seat next to the fire.

I've lunched at Zarbo a lot of times over the years - it's a little away from busy Broadway and a convenient place to meet a friend as they have.a few car parks above if you're not shopping in nearby 277 to get the free parking there. The blackboard menu doesn't vary much and the cabinets always used to hold a tempting array of lunch dishes and salads. Recently , though I was disappointed to see the pastries and lasagne etc looked pale and uninviting and the salads all looked boring and less colourful than usual. I settled for the roast vege salad and it was certainly tasty if a little lacking in appearance. Our coffees were all quickly made and were good though not really hot enough. Zarbo were one of the first cafe delis on the scene but there are many out there now and I think Zarbo need to sharpen up to keep up. The many empty tables on a Friday lunchtime suggested others agree :-(
