You know when you go on vacation, and you love to explore, but you find a place that draws you back again and again? Well, Kingsland Social is such a place. We stopped here our first day for lunch, and it was AMAZING. Everything we ordered, fried chicken, caesar salad, and pasta were all excellent. I have come back since for coffee and work time. The vibe is kid-friendly with a play area for the little ones, free wifi with plenty of seating, and it big and bright. The owner was cool and the place just feels super local.

In the past I spent 10 years reviewing breakfast cafes in Sydney and while on holiday in NZ of all places I find a cafe that has impressed me more than anything else for a long time. The Royal Crumpets were ordered sans eggs. The combination of bacon, onion marmalade and parmesan was made all the more impressive because of the quality. The bacon was thick cut so it really stood out. It was all brought together by a near perfect hollandaise that was creamy as it should be, with the right amount of tang. And crumpets rather than the usual toast/croissant/muffin helped to set it apart. It just got better with house made rosti and a beef sausage with dense flavoursome interior and a delightful snap. Decadent mint hot chocolate and cappuccino to drink on the side coupled with fantastic service simply made for my favourite breakfast cafe after 2 weeks of dining out in NZ. Thank you, Kingsland Social team!

A fabulous dining experience for a Saturday night. Great vibes, exceptional food by the owner and superb Chef, Phil and expertly served by his lovely wife. Will be back

Very delicious coffee & food. Took a little bit of time to get our food served but there’s only one chef cooking for everyone so it was understandable. Will definitely visit again soon.

Love their own baked bread. The servings were generous and foods we've ordered were all flavourful. Service was great too!

We hosted my friend's baby shower here, as a normal table booking not function booking. The service was exceptional. Leading up to the day, Marine was so lovely to deal with, very accommodating and no request was too much trouble. Emails were responded to in a matter of minutes. We booked for 20 people for lunch and I made a special request for 20 cupcakes (from the function menu, not normal menu) which Marine had no problem sorting out for me. When we arrived the tables were all set with a cupcake in front of each chair and it was so beautiful. We were able to bring a few helium balloons no problem. The ambiance was so nice, the service was great, and we had an amazing afternoon. Thank you for allowing us to hang out for 2+ hours catching up with friends. Based on this level of service for a simple table booking, I would certainly consider booking this venue out for a proper function in future.

A wonderful cafe with excellent food! Kid friendly as well. The beef cheek was cooked to perfection! Highly recommended.

Nice place, had fresh apple & pear juice and calamari salad

Love this place, Phil the owner and chef is always super happy and positive along with his beautiful wife at front of house. We love the food and the relaxed atmosphere. Big English Breakfast is huge and the eggs on smashed Avocado is another favorite that is over loaded with Avocado. Great coffee as well, great place for a breakfast / brunch date or dinner on a Friday or Saturday night.

A quaint cafe with a peaceful atmosphere. The breakfast burger was superb! The strong roast of coffee was lovely and the berry muffin was also very tasty!

Nice new place in Kingsland. Came here for a weekend lunch. The decor was nice and the dining room is quite spacious. At the time we came in there were not may other people waiting for food, however the food took a long time to get to us. The coffee was decent and came in a nice cup, the burger looked nice but could have done with a bit more flavor - maybe some sauce. Will happily return when I'm around next time.

A week after they opened our first visit was pretty good, after a bunch of social media posts we have visited 2 more times and our food experience gets better each visit. And we always feel welcome when we walk in with our 3 month old and his stroller.

Always so wonderful ❤️ and if you have children it's a must visit as the play are keeps them occupied for ages!

quality of food isnt up to standard for an auckland cafe. Coffee was not made by a qualified barista, and also got served concentrate juice but charged as you would fresh juice. bread and bacon was also of a low quality

Went for our first post quarantine meal, husband really enjoyed his English breakfast but my eggs Benedict type thing was just ok despite having very good salmon. Service was blah, no smiles or thank you. Not too expensive tho so that was a positive

Food was very average

This is our regular breakfast spot! They serve a delicious eggs bene and have great coffee! Their prices are quite low meaning great value

For some reason I don’t have lots of photos here, but I have come a few times, great for a catch up with mates, always great vibes , especially the “outdoor” area. The food here is pretty epic too.<br/>Recommend for an all round experience- catch up, drinks and food. Best place for that in Kingsland

Was super excited to go here after seeing them on Instagram. We tried the $10 chicken burger and beef cheek burger. You get what you paid for to be honest. But the let down was the service. We went around 1pm on a Friday and there was around 6 other people there with us. It took around 30 mins to get our order and the fries were soggy and undercooked. I don’t recommend this place.

Phil’s Kitchen often brings happy memories of delicately-placed dishes with micro-herbs and velvet seating. If that was considered a fresh take to fine dining, then Phil Clarke’s new venture across the road is a fresh take on family dining. We loved the sun streaming in from the wooden French doors and bright white ceilings and tableware. There’s a distinct modern kiwi home vibe to everything with its powder blue accents, white subway tile feature walls and a large grey lounging sofa complete with an overflowing tox box. <br/><br/>Everything on the menu was generous in portion and just freaking delicious. The calamari was succulent and in all honesty, a little bit dangerous – while the angus sirloin, according to Piripiri, is the best he’s ever tasted. And… can just we talk about that Beef Cheek burger? The meat was so soft and tender it fell apart (in the best possible way) with a gentle nudge of the fork. Why aren’t more people talking about this place? For the love of food, just go.Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/kingsland-social-nov-2018

Absolutely love this place! Friendly, fun environment for a family outing or for a relaxed gathering with friends. The food is incredible quality, presentation and flavour. An absolutely must go!<br/>

Second time I’ve been here and I was disappointed. Their Instagram is very impressive but what we were served today was underwhelming. The creme brûlée was nice 4/5. The eggs bene with salmon was okay but the amount of salmon was literally a thin shred 2/5 nothing like their instagram pics. The sirloin steak was definitely the most disappointing. The steak was thin and over cooked. The menu mentioned broccolini only to be served two leaves of bok choy. When we asked why we had no broccoli, a chef or maybe an owner (while about four staff stood around conversing in front of the till) shrudded his shoulders with no interest. It would have been nice to be told that they were out of certain produce instead of just replacing it with a disappointing substitute.

Really tasty, interesting food - and reasonable prices. The breakfast servings were very generous and tasted fabulous. The coffee was the best I've had in ages.<br/>I'll be back to try lunch and diner.

Fantastic new resturant in Kingsland.  The staff and owners are lovely and friendly. Extremely child friendly with a play area and even a weekly mums and bub's coffee meeting on a thursday morning. <br/>Coffee is excellent and hot! lovely fresh Baguettes and croissants daily.<br/>will definitely be back and cant wait to try their dinner menu

child friendly environment is good but it was really awkward when the waitress was serving dishes holding a baby in her arm. even worse, couple of staffs started to yell at each other, nearly cursing, at the kitchen. no one wants a drama on sunday morning.. coffee was average food was too simple. i dont think i will ever go back to this place.

Had brunch last Saturday with my wife. The coffee was great but it took a while. At the time we came, there was one waitress, one barista and one person in the cashier. I ordered the Royal Crumpet and she ordered the Eggs Benedict. One of my eggs were overcooked but still tasted great. I would probably come back for the coffee. A nice little cafe in Kingsland but nothing really special about it.

A Relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We found the open spaces and high ceiling very comforting and inviting. We espied families, couples and solo patrons alike (an A+ for the Cosmopolitan ambience), the lighting was perfect for engaging conversation with our friends and enhanced further by the sumptuous fare. Every dish tasted as it appeared. Color and plating also were very pleasing to the eye. Thank you for presenting a new unique standard to Anytime-Eating. We recommend a true must for your personal stable of favorite eatouts.<br/><br/>Amelia & Solf

Newly opened. Barista wasn’t having a particularly good day today, first coffee was average at best. Chicken breast was superbly cooked, one of the better ones I’ve had.

Amazing new place in Kingsland. Ceaser salad was fresh and full of fresh chicken! 6.50 for a Heineken. Cheapest in Kingsland!! Highly recommend<br/>

Update 2020 (changed to 2/5): food is mostly good, but service is really poor - disinterested (I felt bad for choosing to dine here, like I’d caused an inconvenience in placing an order) slow, tables not cleared (I cleared my own & others did the same). I get that cafes get busy, but seriously friendly service is non-negotiable, and KS continue to miss the mark here particularly with the prices they charge (it ain’t McDonald’s....) <br/><br/>Jan 2019 (rated 4/5): New cafe in Kingsland. Lots of space with indoor & outdoor seating as well as couches & a kids area. Great to see the open kitchen.<br/>Service was friendly & efficient. Coffee was well made with cute saucers!<br/>Food was delicious - a good menu with the standard favourites as well as a few twists. <br/>Keen to visit again & try their lunch menu too.

The food was pretty standard, coffee was luke warm. The thing that bought this rating down to 2 stars was the service, I was ignored when I first walked in despite waiting at the counter for 10 minutes. The staff seemed to be purposely ignoring me even though it wasn’t busy, so I went to sit down at a table to wait. When I was finally served 20 minutes later, the waitress seemed very moody, unwelcoming and sarcastic. I will not be coming here again.

Probably the best deluxe cheese burger in NZ - and possibly the world. And the accompanying duck fat chips and garlic aioli are fab too. You can tell the top notch trained chefs are involved. Oh and great service too.

I really liked the wide openness of this place as soon as we walked in. The owners greeted us with a smile and the service was quick and efficient. I had the avocado and eggs on toast which was visually appealing and tasted delicious!

What a great meal! From the chef who brought you Phil’s Kitchen, this place has a relaxed airy atmosphere, friendly staff and outstanding food. My husband reckoned he had the best pork belly of his life, and my chicken breast and gnocchi was perfectly cooked, light and tasty. Two mains, two desserts and a glass of wine each for $109 - this was great value for an exceptional dinner.

As this all day cafe/restaurant had only recently opened we kept an open mind that staff would still be finding their way. The waiter was very polite and though clearly learning we had no issues. The drinks list was not yet finalised but the waiter informed us of what was available so we went with a nice Pinot noir. <br/>The food was amazing! We had the calamari and chicken terrine to share for a starter and I was happy that calamari was perfectly tender and had nice flavor in the batter that wasn’t too heavy. The terrine was also a hit, especially with the fruit chutney which really suited the chicken well. <br/>For our mains we both couldn’t go past pork belly. <br/>It was the best I’d had in a long time with not too much fat but enough to make it so tender and then a crispy skin that was actually crispy not chewy like so many pork belly dishes around. <br/>After seeing a post on the Facebook page of the baked Camembert earlier in the week we ordered it to share for dessert. We were not disappointed, so decadent with walnuts and raspberries on top, it was heaven as baked cheese is! <br/>Food was perfect, the space casual and relaxed and service attentive but not in your face. <br/>A great spot to sit and stare out into kingsland and watch the world go by. <br/>We will be back again soon and definitely keen to try the brunch menu too.
