Delicious food with fresh ingredients. An awesome local restaurant right in front of the beautiful Eastern Beach. A nice place for many locals.

We thought this place was a real gem. We hadn't been here since 2016! The menu had a lot of items and we were spoilt for choice. For a lunchtime the place became very busy. The food was really tasty and a delight. We can't wait to come again.

Beachfront was absolutely serene. Dishes were well-prepared, although they didn’t come out as appetizers and entrees as we expected. They came out all at once after a little bit of a wait, which was a shame as we were quite hungry. We also had to order our food at the bar rather than at the table which was a touch inconvenient. The ramekins topped with cheese on the “Seafood Surprise” were the best bite of the night.

Lovely restaurant! Good quality food and the staff there have amazing manners. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to couples looking for a fine place for a date night, they have a lot of wines there for you to choose. As for younger members, the chocolate milkshake is amazing! It has a good ocean view so after you eat you can take some nice photos to post on your social media. 😂 The food there is mostly suited for adults, but the beef salad, fish & chips and the carbonara is a great choice for those who don’t like fancy food. Protip: Bring a camera along! You will be captured by the stunning views outside.

We had some fish 🐠 and chips 🍟 for lunch today It wasn't the best, we expected more for the amount we paid. A bigger battered fish would have done the job, our tummies were filled even though. It's a lovely place to have a drink and look at the view. Overall a lovely place. Just a bit overpriced. 😊💕

We wish we had found this earlier in our stay as we only got to have 2 meals but what a great experience. The food was excellent, fresh and the quality 5 star.

Just very good food and survice. And Grandma whose birthday we were celebrating also loved it as she couldnt eat it all and took her leftovers for her nights diner.

Went here for dinner with a group of 7. Easy parking on street out front. Staff were nice and attentive. All meals came out together and within a reasonable time, which was great. I got the eye fillet steak which was a bit over cooked to my liking so was a letdown as the meal looked amazing when it was first placed in front of me. Everything else was great so would give them another try, but next time ask for rarer steak.

A lovely restaurant across from the beach. We ordered the seafood chowder and duck envelope. Both of them were super delicious. The coffee was ok or maybe just not on my taste. Overall this is definitely a great place to go if you are coming to the beach.

Absolutely marvellous!! Beautiful, friendly staff and food was the most spectacular! Best fish I've ever had!!

We enjoyed a cracking mid week lunch here. Awesome food and great service. Green curry cream mussels, arancini balls, carbonara and pizza - all good and all available. We will be back!

Nitin and his team were so accommodating to our big birthday party today. The service was so lovely and the team did a great job at getting all the meals out. A great place for an event or just a casual brunch or dinner. Beautiful views.

Had an excellent experience at this restaurant! My coffee tasted delicious, and the food was simply scrumptious. I ordered the Big Breakfast, and my sourdough was perfectly toasted and eggs were delicately poached. My friend had the seafood surprise, which was very fresh and baked just right. Overall, highly recommend visiting this place.

We had a really nice dinner here. The menu offers pizza and burgers as well as classics and roast meals. The service was excellent friendly and attentive.

Had great pre-dinner cocktails there

Never again - we waited over an hour and a half for our meals, I understand we were a big table, however a booking had been made days in advance, we had 4 children with us who also had to wait just as long. Two meals were under cooked where the meat was raw inside - unacceptable to make a child wait 1 hr 30 and then give them a raw mince patty. I felt sorry for the floor staff as they were quite young and did not have the skills to rectify or resolve the situation in anyway apart from saying sorry. Overall the food & wait was the biggest let down as the location is beautiful - would definitely not go back again & suggest that the owners take the time in training there staff and maybe employing additional experienced staff when needed.

My extended family and I have been to the sunset on several family occasions. We are a family that enjoy great food, wine and entertainment on one of many occasions we had a party of 19 our meals were all superb and our waiter was great. Also my mother in law relies on a wheelchair and the staff have always made her comfortable and gone that extra mile when there restaurant has been jam packed. Offers blankets and cushions for comfort over the cooler months. Overall a family environment that honours and caters for everyone. Many thanks Sunset staff for always going above and beyond

Totally recommend this restaurant for the food, the location and the feel. We had a great Saturday night and our older kids really enjoyed swimming at the beach across the road. Highly recommend the chicken supreme with mashed kumara.... really great.

Great service, excellent location and views. Was their on a Sunday afternoon and they had some high quality live music acts performing that made for a fun atmosphere and to top it off the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Had dinner there tonight and it was dreadful. Spare ribs were all fat and bone - no meat at all, coleslaw and potato salad looked and tasted like supermarket bought, snapper fillets so small they must of been illegal and pork belly also more fat than meat. Chef needs to be more discerning in his choice of meat cuts. Very substandard- won’t be recommending or returning! So disappointed was hoping for a good ‘local’ restaurant to support.

Ate here yesterday for the second time - a little over 2 years after my first visit. The food was just as delish as the first time although again, sadly, they let themselves down with the level & standard of service. This was especially irritating when they'd added a 15% holiday surcharge. Last visit, everybody else had virtually finished their mains by the time mine arrived, although the quality of the food almost made the wait worthwhile. This time, everything arrived pretty-much together, but the service was slipshod. The server forgot to bring cutlery & had to be reminded after she'd walked past our table twice without bringing any. Nobody came to ask if everything was ok. Don't misunderstand me: the food was VERY good, but the haphazard service makes me think twice about returning for a third visit. It's not exactly a budget option & I expect rather more attentive/regular service for those kinds of prices. Your mileage may vary, but I'd be wary for the future.

We came across this restaurant and gave it a go , i would have to say i would suggest looking at the restaurant part of your name, After the food order was lost we sat enjoining the great view becoming even hungrier , Due to the first minor error our dinners were rushed, the corn with my chicken came on the plate still frozen. This made me think that the Watties bag of frozen corn used didn’t even really get microwaved properly. My wife’s Pork Belly was still cold but we were so hungry we just at the cold dinners, when we told our waitress and showed her by asking he to put the frozen corn between her fingers she said “it really cold “ and just disappeared, Wen another waitress cam up and asked how our food was we explained again ( and gave her the same cold test ) she disappeared as well. We ate or cold dinners. Then we cued up to try to pay, after about 10 minutes we had to interrupt the check out girl to try to pay, Im not sure how this restaurant will survive with its systems and processes in such a poor state, I guess the bar makes enough to cover the poor everything else.

Very Disappointed as this was my choice of Restaurant to dine at for my birthday, i felt as though i personally had let my guests down. The wait for meals was far to long-With no communication from your wait staff yet we were one of the first tables to arrive and be seated, a few of our meals were a let down, I have more to say however if your willing to ring and discuss please feel free to make contact with me.

We had our sons 21st here. Steph and the crew did an amazing job. The evening went without a hitch. Highly recommend this venue for any occasion.

Went there for my birthday dinner with the family last night. Omg it was amazing! Ive been there many times and this place never disappoints! The service and the staff were fantastic! Well done Sunset! You know I'll be back!

Possibly the best chicken burger I have ever had! Amazing food and service ! The poached chicken is amazing also! Will definitely be back!

We ordered the fish & chips and sirloin form the $15 lunch menu. Decent sized portions, came out in decent amount of time and was well presented. The battered fish was wonderfully crispy and the sirloin was cooked well. They gave us both a generous portion of chips which was a bonus. Had a lovely sea view and staff were great.

Food - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5
Service - 4/5
went for a birthday lunch treat and fell in love with the seafood platter :) the taste is absolutely amazing.
the mussel is sooooo nice, must order more bread to dip in the sauce. will definitely go again and try the rib platter and other menu too. would love to try the seafood chowder when they start in winter

Walking along the eastern beaches, you won’t be spoilt for choice for cafés or restaurants which is a shame because of how beautiful the Eastern beaches are. We were originally going for coffee at the Eastern Beach Espresso café, but opted for Sunset for its view. Sitting outside you get to be in the glory of the sun while looking out onto the ocean.

I enjoyed my lunch here at Sunset, a price conscious 15$ lunch meal and fantastic service. My friend picked up the Mussels and I had the Chicken Fettuccine, the Chicken Fettuccine was delightful, creamy basil based sauce which also had slices of bacon and small tomatoes which gives a nice sweetness to the dairy base. If I wasn’t out in public I probably would have started licking the plate clean.

Showstopper: Great view across the eastern beaches and the Chicken Fettucine was class.

Overall Grade: A-

Nice ambiance and a great view but the food wasn't great and the service a bit wayward. Wine we didn't order was delivered to our table, ketchup we asked for never arrived. The mussel dish was very heavy on the cream and the fish n chips was very oily ~ side salad was quite pleasant though with a mild dressing. Overall I probably wouldn't eat here again.

Food was amazing!! Those pork ribs were to die for... best ive ever had! Staff are so friendly and manager is so lovely. Definitely recommend this place

Came by for lunch to try it out. We walked in and got to choose where to sit and we opted for the deck area outside. It has quite a nice view of the beach.

It took a while to get the attention of a waitress to get our order. The ice chocolate was mostly ice so it wasn't very nice. The squid was alright but very light for a lunch.

Food and service were ok.

Great location and view. We came here for lunch and were proptly seated. Water and menus arrived shortly after. Great start walking into a restaurant. However, it took a very long time to get our orders. My brother and I tried waiving down a couple of the waitresses with no success a couple times. Eventually one noticed my long arms waving to and fro and our order was taken. It didn't take too long for the food to come out. We ordered the chicken burger, steak, calamari and ice chocolate.

Ice chocolate was terrible. Very icy and tasted like cheap hersheys syrup.

Chicken burger. Looked great but chicken was in small pieces which made it dry. Burger itself was very dry and had no flavour.

Steak was cooked ok. Some sinu in meat which was not nice to eat. The side of lettuce wedge was terrible literally just tasted like lettuce. A small amount of dressing was drizzled on the top side of the lettuce and some very burnt pieces of bacon. The dressing/lettuce ratio was off. The dressing should have been drizzled on the other side of the lettuce so that it would have made its way into the crevices of the leaves making it more appetising and giving it more taste.

Dined here in October. Awesome service by staff. Nice view through the windows. I like that there is a window to the cooking area so we can watch the kitchen also. I loved the outdoor area. Food was excellent! only thing I can fault is that all our steaks came out well done when we all requested medium-rare.

Disappointing :( No oysters, swapped with the chicken wings. Which were tasty but dry and not great to handle. Pork belly definitely not my fave, also dry. Potatoes pretty good? Service helpful, experience underwhelming. Not good enough for the location. I got more attention than other diners due to varying issues with equipment and stock. Hence the rubbish score and lacklustre review, not going back

Overall, fairly disappointed - three things that we wanted to order on the menu weren't available (beer, chowder, & the wine we wanted).
The entree of pork croquets were very salty & while the squid was quite nice also suffered from too much salt in parts. While the steak was tender, the fillet mignon main meal had NO bacon, braised beef cheeks, OR creamy garlic mashed potato - as per the menu. For a main meal costing $33.50 each, this is unacceptable.
The service was good in general but since this was an anniversary dinner, which we had informed them about, no extra effort was made to make the night special.

Great food and service.Tuesday night so the place was pretty quiet. Great view across the tamaki estuary. Food was well priced for the portion size. Thought the wine was just a little pricey.

This place is soo underrated!!

First of all, the location is perfect, right opposite the beachside (very romantical if you ask me 🤗).

The service here is 5/5. The waitress who served us was lovely, attentive and bubbly the whole night.

My friends and I ordered the mussels to start off with. The mussels were so amazing! The marinate was superb and the Mussels were massive! It's a 5/5 from me. Also the garlic bread which we ordered were great to soak up the soup from the Mussels.
For mains i ordered the pork belly. This is by far the best pork belly I've eaten so far and I've tried many pork bellys. Pork belly itself was cooked to perfection, and the mash was so creamy and delicious. Everything on the plate was seriously so yum that I'm salivating right now.

Also the kumara fries were delicious and the amount of aioli given without even asking gave me tears of joy.

I highly recommend this place!!!
The food was awesome but the service was appalling. Took forever for drinks to be served, our meal took quite some time to come out as well. When the plates were being cleared I asked the waitress for another glass of wine and she told me I had to order that from the bar. Not what one would expect when you have been ordering them all night. Add to that the wafts of cigarette smoke coming through the door from the outdoor bar area while eating - rather disappointed as this was a favourite restaurant when it was the Beach House. Can't say I would hurry back.

Rocked up on Anzac Day and they had a special menu which was amazing.
200g Angus Beef Steak and Mango Cheesecake both amazing. I'm not a seafoodie but this Mussel Pot for a starter was 10/10!

Food was okay, setting beautiful, but we were given a big hurry up to finished and leave. It was quite unpleasant as the waitress was whisking our dishes away before we had even finished, constantly hassling us, taking one dish at a time, this was at 9pm on a Saturday night, this ruined the evening.

Visited this restaurant for the 2nd time within the last 3 weeks hoping that the experience was better than the last. We had previously visited for the $16 lunch special where we ordered the steak. While the price was low the experience was rated much lower. Tonight we went in for a nice dinner thinking that they could redeem themselves but weren't as pleased as one would hope. We ordered a chargrilled avocado, mushroom, beetroot and Halloumi cheese dish that came out cold! Was certainly not pleasant but the flavours were definitely there. The Tequila Chicken burger was made of a mince rather than an actual chicken piece which was not pleasing. From what we heard the deserts are delivered from their suppliers as the diners behind us sent their back and were offered a poor excuse of cost cutting for the quality of the desert. Unfortunately this restaurant does not meet the standards required for the waterfront area in which it resides. They need some serious work to bring this back up to standard. The staff that served us were lovely but the management that took the feedback from both ourselves and other diners left a poor taste in your mouth. Experience is 2 out of 5 as every business should embrace customer feedback to improve

Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Very attentive staff and very kids friendly. The entertainment was outstanding with a very special Meryl Cassie behind the microphone. Will definitely be back to sample more from the menu. Great way to spend the Auckland summer all year long!

Came with friends on a Friday night it was 10 pmish we were looking for a nice place to eat however we got there late. We were able to order bar food, to my delight the bar food menu had an amazing platter that fed 2 males and us 2 girlies with quite a bit left over. The ambience was wonderful. Service great, the people in the background playing with the music amusing and friendly. We did vow as a group to return to this little hot spot! From the Northshore to the east...Why not :)

A wonderful place to catch up in an outdoor casual atmosphere with friends but not so great to visit for food. The tap beers are excellent however being charged $8 for a tiny bowl of fries that look like they came from the chippy next door was a little hard to swallow. Being told that we were not allowed to order the burgers that are clearly written on the menu because "we don't do burgers at night" left us all a little stunned. The rest of the menu leans itself to fine dining, however the reality is that it is far from it.
I think these guys are confused. Is this a relaxed venue where you can enjoy live music and beer on tap or a restaurant charging inner city prices for sub-standard food?
Install a pizza oven, drop the pretentious menu and provide better bar snacks and you will have a winner.
As a local I was seriously looking forward to having a decent eatery in the area compared to the disaster that was the The Beach House and the dodgy Indian place down the road but we have been left disappointed and will continue to head down to Grangers who seem to have the formula right.
I sincerely hope that the owners listen to the locals as they are the ones who will keep you going, and at this stage they are rather disappointed.

Went for brunch - after finishing our meals the coffees still hadn't arrived. Long story short they had lost our order. My complaint is more with the attitude of the manager in dealing with this situation. She was incredibly rude to us and I was appalled at her attitude. A manager is supposed to look after customers, not treat them like they are an inconvenience to her morning. Won't be going back.

I dined here with a friend for dinner on Friday night and wont ever be back. I ordered the bruscetta for entree and my friend had the squid which she enjoyed. My bruscetta had the potential to be delicious as all the flavours were there, unfortunately, it was served in a bowl which had 1cm high of olive oil poured into it. The bread was drench in oil (as oppose to a light drizzle) and totally took away from what would usually be a lovely light start to a meal. For our mains I ordered the seafood linguine and my friend chose the beef fillet mignon. Imagine my Muslim friend's suprise when her beef came out wrapped in bacon (Muslims are forbidden to eat pork). No where in the menu did it state this and when we kindly explained to a very timid waiter that it couldnt be eaten (nor could the bacon just be removed) he came back to us and said that "fillet mignon" means beef wrapped in bacon. Interestingly, a simple google search can tell anyone that fillet mignon simply means a steak cut of beef taken from the smaller end of the tenderloin and has nothing to do with bacon. Despite the circumstances, we were pleased that the waiter said they could immediately remake the dish for my friend; however, she opted for a quick baby spinach salad so we could still eat together. As for my linguine, it was bitter and tasted as though the white wine hadn't had long enough to cook off. The seafood itself, was chewy and inedible. I was only able to eat half. By the time dessert came around we weren't very optimistic; however, the Creme Brulee was delicious! We didnt enjoy the berry compote but it was in its own ramekin so we just gave it a miss. Overall, I would have probably given the restaurant a 3/5 but the service really let them down. I was asked how our meal was upon payment by the owner/manager (I presume) and I told her all of the above points as constructive feedback, after all we could have had a different experience with different menu options. She was very rude and defensive, repeated the line about what fillet mignon was and asked me if I had ever had crayfish sauce claiming that I was not familiar with the flavour since other customers did not complain. She asked why I didnt tell the waiter (which I had) so at this point, I suggest that she might offer a discount as most restaurants would do in this situation but she didn't so in the end we paid the full $120 and will never be back again. Please work on your customer service - it doesn't cost a thing and will make all the difference!

Customers began to flock in, shortly after 12, to this newly opened restaurant (replacing the Beach House). We had warm sandwich chicken on focaccia with veggie & black angus sirloin with fries & salad on a Saturday afternoon with friends. Food was fairly good - though beef was a bit over-cooked for medium rare. Coffees could have been better - hotter & better presented. I'll be back for a proper dinner. (Food - 3.5/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience- 4/5)

Amazing fine dining! Me and my partner had dinner and both got the Angus steak and beef cheek! It was delicious and I will definitely be back again! Service was exceptional I highly recommend! 5 stars!!
