Review Shore Road Cafe - Auckland Central

Had lunch here today with a couple of friends. The service was great, with a serving of humour. The food was delicious and the outside seating area was covered so no sunburn. We’ll be back.

Service came with a smile , the food was presented beautifully and tasted great the only negative aspect for me was the fact that it was really cold in the cafe ,I sat far-away from the door but I felt a cold breeze and there is not always parking in the area . The music was calming and suited the cafe. Then cakes looked fresh and presented well, however they were all in the open next to the till , might be good to cover them for health reasons incase someone sneeze over them or touch them. Very attentive and friendly staff. Will visit again

Food was tasty and presented well. The mushrooms on toast was very different from what I had tried before and I loved the poached egg 🍳 we ordered some kid sized waffles (wanted some but not a whole meal) and they were very tasty. Will definitely try the fun size next time! Alai really enjoyed my hot chocolate l.

This is a nice cafe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A few friendly sparrows outside are hoping to get some crumbs. Even a dog bowl for your walking buddy. The service here is very very good. The staff are very attentive, bring water to your table and check to ensure that you are well looked after.

Came in on a wet spring Saturday to escape the Auckland weather and enjoy a hot chocolate. Hot choccy was top tier, best we’ve had. Food was delicious and they really accommodated our GF requests. Service absolutely wonderful. Only small minus was the temperature of the cafe and the music was a bit loud (sounds a bit Karen-y) but with hearing issues it made it a bit hard to hear. Absolutely recommend

I felt the cafe service, food and coffee had deteriated so hadn't been to Shore Rd Cafe for a few months. This visit was a pleasant surprise, the porridge for breaky was excellent, coffee great and service very good.

Went here for lunch, it was very quiet. We were greeted and seated straight away and given water. We had the BLT and the Crepe. The BLT came in a bun and had good flavours. It looked large but was easily devoured by my partner 😋 The crepe was served with seasonal fruit (and quite a lot of it) - banana, melon, grape, kiwi, orange, pineapple along with some jus. I enjoyed it and felt one crepe was enough considering all the fruit. It felt not too heavy despite the rather large size of the dish. Coffee was tasty, nice and hot and the staff were friendly. We don’t live in Newmarket so probably won’t return but we enjoyed our visit

I can see this being a real local charmer, the staff at the counter recognise its frequent visitors meaning they've got a reputation in the community, for me i ordered a delightful cured salmon and beetroot salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also ordered a creamy mushroom and that was devine, I'd recommend it

Great coffee, friendly staff

Came here for the first time and got the BLAT and ice choccie, was really yum 🙂 service was friendly and efficient, staff were helpful Cafe was interesting with different areas 👍

Good coffee. Easy to get a park. NZ Herald available.

Casual cafe with table service. Coffee was good value but food cost slightly more for a casual place. Still food was really yummy.

They take the time to listen to my order of whole food plant based no oil nutrition (WFPBNO) I’m one of Barry’s mates who they reserve a table for. Because of their efforts I eat there by myself whenever I’m in the area. Thanks guys keep up the good work

Foodie Shots Photography is visiting Auckland and found this amazing cafe. Fantastic personalised service and award winning barista. Highly recommend.

Great food, very attentive staff. Something for everyone the photo doesn't do it justice.

Great service, we had 2 different salads and they were both delicious and a good portion for the price. Doggy friendly and a cute spot for a sunny day!
Paul Bailey
Fantastic friendly and professional staff. Very accommodating in moving chairs. Busy at lunch time but still happy to serve just coffee. Nice location but parking is scarce. Drop off anybody who has difficulty walking long distances as the parking in the area is likely to be a 100m away from this popular place and the surrounding hills are steep! Allow plenty of time to find a park.

Really amazing place for a weekend brunch or coffee. There's outdoor seating in the sun. Staff are very friendly and happy to help with anything. Really nice experience. Food menu is extensive and absolutely delicious, great quality ingredients displayed nicely. Coffee is perfect

Great service and tasty coffee. The spinach fritters with bacon, egg etc was sooooo yummy. I’ll be back!

Best coffee we have had in Auckland, great food too.

Awesome cafe & food, perfect service and nice staffs.

Auckland I love you... I hadn't been to the Shore Road Cafe for a couple of weeks. Today I arrived and sat down waiting for friends and my favourite coffee was delivered before I even ordered..how's that for great service??

Brill! Fab staff xxx lovely cafe!

Been past here heaps so today called in mostly for a toilet stop, Allpress coffee (latte $5) & the salad bar is hard not to ignore, had the soba noddle one (small $10) - yummy, what a nice chilled out cafe, with great outdoor seating - I'll b back. Thursday 28 November 2019.

Lovely local restaurant. Warm vibe, welcoming staffs, nice food and drinks. Coffee tastes great. Kids friendly. We had the big breakfast and the chicken salad. It was amazing and full filling.

Amazing food and coffee!!! The staff are nice and hospitable :) The decor might need a little work. If you need a place to take family and friends, this is the place to go!
Samantha Green
LOVE this place, am currently writing this while enjoying a pulled pork sandwhich which is so amazing! The waiter who served us who I believe was the owner was amazing and lovely, steak was perfect, such an amazing local place!

An appealing Cafe nestled nicely within a tight little centre. A leafy outlook that is a treasure so close to town. Attentive service with warm greetings and excellent table monitoring. Good range of beverages. Allpress coffee is rather a cliche around Auckland but here it was well crafted. Well stocked food cabinets. If new to area, watch out for Cafe to be on opposite side of road to location indicated on this site's map. Parking might be a little awkward.

Brilliant in all respects; food, service, pricing. Would highly recommend this establishment. Only issue could be parking but we were lucky enough to get a park directly outside which was fortunate as we took two elderly relatives. Toilets were clean & tidy & they offer a good range on the menu that even satisfied 2 fussy elderly eaters!
MegWantsVeg
Excellent service and lots of choices for vegetarians. Shakshuka was a bit sour, I prefer more earthy tomato flavour. I really like the baked eggs on avocado dish.

My favourite cafe in Auckland! These guys are the cafe equivalent of the bar in Cheers - they are so friendly and welcoming I love coming here. I have been a regular for over 4 years and the reason that I keep coming back is the service is fabulous and friendly, the coffee is outstanding and the food tasty and fresh. It is a great place to take time out from a busy day, have a coffee meeting or just top up your caffeine levels!! Sharlene and her team go out of their way to provide great service, are genuinely friendly and interested in their customers! Thanks team - keep up the great work!!

Good coffee, eggs Benedict very tasty. Nice place with good service but very noisy inside when is busy, an acoustic treatment is definitely necessary. I will come back but I will take an outdoor table.
Olivia Frost
Great G.F breakfast! We ordered a half eggs benedict, ($10) and it was perfect. Lovely service, good coffee, and will return again when in the area. Thank you!

Come here with my son every week and he absolutely loves the scrambled eggs. Man behind coffee machine is very talented. Staff extremely patient. see you this weekend

Ok coffee; the salad mix was a nice combo, and the pancakes look good. The cake I had was a little dry, but we had a very friendly waitress; top marks for service, plus we sat in a lovely outdoor space with a nice sea breeze.

You won't be disappointed with the bacon and egg bap from the cabinet and a long black - I'm just really hoping the friendly guy there each morning is on holiday? If he comes back I'll change to 5/5.

Love this cafe. I come to shore road cafe quiet abit and never seems to disappoint. I am a huge fan of the porridge here and they give you a big portion which i was happy with, I also really like the tofu and halloumi burger but they have changed the menu recently and took it off but last time I came they still made it for me even though they took it off which I was very pleased about. Great service and very efficient, I never get kept waiting. Defiantly would recommend this cafe and will continue to come back :)
Louise MacNaughton
We came here to try the famous scrambled eggs. Maybe I was expecting too much but I was super disappointed, they tasted like they were made with slight off butter. My boyfriend ordered the eggs Benedict and when it came to the table we literally had to bite our lips to not burst out laughing. It was so tiny! He finished his food AND mine and was still starving. Maybe we just came on a bad day but it's a shame because we won't bother coming back.
Charlene
went there many times with friends...everything are perfect..especially for coffee and service.......so i give five stars....u guys can do better

Went for brunch with 4 friends, food was out pretty quick and service was good. I got eggs benedict with bacon and side of mushrooms. I can honestly say it was the worst eggs bene I've ever had and that's the only thing I ever get when I go out for breakfast so I've had a few. The eggs were under done and watery and it was overall very bland. For 19.50 I expected a hell of a lot more. The mushrooms were lacklustre. I paid $5 for 3 portobello mushrooms that looked and tasted as if they had been boiled in water. At the very least fry them in butter and balsamic?? Quite frankly I felt worse after I had finished my meal than before I started. Im not a food snob by any means, in fact when it comes to food I'm pretty easy to please but when you can't even get poached eggs right then you know you're in for a bad time. My friend got the risotto and was even more disappointed than me. Rice was undercooked and lacked in taste. Overall I expected so much more for what I paid, I could've done a better job at home and I won't be going back.

Food was good and service was alright. It's nicely tucked away in the basin between remuera and orakei. We did find out seating arrangement very uncomfortable, they were rather odd. Tables secluded in corners or facing the walls or in the way of each other. We found the pasta dish slightly too spicy but other than that everything else was fine. Coffee was average but not bad. In summary nothing to rave about but its not bad or horrible. Perhaps the menu could have a little bit more personality? You're pretty average cafe.

Food: 4/5
Drinks: 3/5
Atmosphere: 2/5
Service: 3/5
Value for money: 4/5

Went to shore road cafe for a quick brunch before heading to city on a Sunday. The cafe was quite busy and staff approached to take our order promptly as we arrived. The smoothie machine was broken so we were unable to order a smoothie. The photo below was the vegan black sticky rice dish. It came with coconut milk and some fruit, however for the price I expected a bit more. The food was nicely presented.

I recently went here for brunch and really enjoyed it. I tried the French Toast with a yumny coconut crust and my friend the vegan sticky rice which ill be ordering next time- it came with lots of fresh fruit and a yummy salted coconut cream. The service was a little slow but they were very busy so I'll be forgiving ! Can't wait to go back :)

This place always delivers the goods! Being a local around the area, I like to grab a morning coffee
which is consistently good from here before I go into work. Whenever I do have some spare time I like to come here for brunch as they have a great menu to choose from and always deliver some good nice service. The place has a good atmosphere and just a nice place to go to in general.

I have eaten at this establishment many times over the last 2 years and decided to give it my support as one of the most consistent cafes in the eastern suburbs .
Even though it changed hands last year the staff are friendly and curtious and the food whether its a simple Bap or Wrap or an Eggs Benedict (I rate as excellent). Coffee is good and it has that atmosphere which is hard to find elsewhere. It is a very busy place so I choose my times and I am never disappointed. The chef also does a blackboard special to keep you enticed. Nice!

Shore Road Cafe is popular local for Remuera residents. Situated on Shore road, theres ample amounts of car parks.

To be honest, I think the cafe is a tad dated. I actually came a few years ago and nothing has changed. I guess people can say - why change what doesn't need to be fixed? However the menus are laminated and tattered, and the table and chairs are just a bit old and uncomfortable.

I think the menu is uneventful. There were no real options that shouted out exciting. I chose the tofu sandwich purely because again I don't eat eggs, and wasn't really keen on spaghetti for brunch.
The tofu/halloumi sandwich was actually quite tasty. The tofu and halloumi were cooked to the right degree and everything was served hot. - Im not a fan of "luke warm". Plus there was a heap of avocado which I love! Though you have to love avocado as much as I do to appreciate it.

The servers are friendly and the food is efficient. Its a shame the interior and exterior isn't as comforting as the food.

Rating
Food: 7.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Value for Money: Good

13 Shore road, Remuera
Opening Hours:
Mon-fri 7am-4pm
Sat-Sun 8am-4pm

Ask me to recommend you a local spot for breakfast and I'll most likely direct you towards Shore Road Cafe.

I can't help but order the bagels with every visit. Accompanied with avocado, cream cheese and tomato for $9.50, it's a killer breakfast option in my books.

The Eggs (mine sunny side up) on multigrain toast with bacon only set you back $10.00, so again, you get a lot for your money's worth.

If you enjoy the heat of the morning sun that is slowly becoming more frequent as we begin summer, I definitely recommend that you grab a table outside. The outdoor area of the cafe seems to trap the sun.

Although if you feel like being outdoors but don't want to risk the possibility of getting sun burnt, Shore Road Cafe offers a covered seating area too.

The service here has it's moments. All the staff are really energetic and polite but waiting time can be long. This depends on how busy the cafe is obviously.

The food is always well presented and really flavorsome. No problems there.

The menu has a decent amount of options on it and pricing is reasonable.

If you are a local, this is definitely one to try out - even just to say you have.

disclaimer: the photographs added were taken on two separate occasions: one indoors and one outdoors.

Very overrated . Had heard good things but on the 3 occasions I was there service was slow & staff rude . Food was cold and the eggs under cooked coffee was only Luke warm .wont be going back .

I have enjoyed the lambs liver for breakfast many times in the past but this Sunday (29/06/2014) it wasn't the same nor was my partners eggs benedict.I thought they were just having a bad day but no that wasn't the case....the cafe has been sold to another migrant buying residency!!! The good thing is that the previous owner probably got a great price for the cafe and the new owners will run it into the ground making for a good opportunity to buy it back for a song.We won't be back.

Messy awful and rude service. The cafe looked totally unorganized, I go to get a coffee to be pushed out of the way by a lady and her daughter, this was ignored by the man at the till as was the other people that ignored me and started their own new line, i was clearly not served and the fact that I was a younger looking customer for some reason meant I didn't count? You missed out on a decent order and I will be very vocal to many people about this....
Stephanie
Had lunch here yesterday. Can't beat the Nicoise Salad, delicious Tuna! Our group all ordered the same thing but with different variations (poor waitress) but nothing was a problem for her! The Espresso Milkshake is very good. Coffee is great! Ask 'Coffee Guy' (tall, good looking Barista) to write your name in the foam!

Here is a seriously great cafe. The food is consistently good and the coffee is excellent. Service is well above average....often personal and attuned to my needs. The environment is well thoughtout and works when things are quiet or busy. Great work Tim.

Five of us visited Shore Rd Cafe today for lunch. We found the 35 min wait for our lunch was a bit too long and the young man that served us was rather offhand, unhelpful and arrogant in his manner. The meals ranged from good to very average and we probably wouldn't visit again. Very disappointing considering the reviews!!!

Another excellent experience at this café. Service is flawless from the moment you arrive. They understand you don't want to wait for your coffee so orders are taken and excellent coffee arrives quickly. We then ordered eggs and were asked if we wanted one or two - it's rare to be asked this but a nice touch. The food looked and tasted great. So many Auckland cafés can't even get the basics right - but this one does that and more. No wonder it's always busy!

Shore Road Cafe can be summed up in just about one word - perfect.
Food is so good, and the service so attentive.
Just wish parking was easier but then its well worth the walk. I feel proud to be able to take overseas friends to show off the high quality of the food and service. Thank you Shore Cafe staff.
Emma
Shore Road Cafe is easily the best cafe in Parnell/Remuera/Newmarket area.

They serve consistantly GREAT Allpress coffee, have tasty and fresh cabinet food, and an awesome healthy modern menu.

Service is fast and friendly and you are never left waiting long regarless of whether its a busy saturday morning

A++++

Shore Road Cafe...A class above anything else for miles around here!
The coffee is excellent....strong & hot! The food is to die for...consistent high quality, beautifully presented and sooo tasty! You don't go away hungry here. Costs are quite reasonable considering the high standard of food.
The Staff at Shore Road Cafe are genuinely sincere, warm, friendly & welcoming....no robots here! They are attentive and helpful... nothing is too much trouble for them...every customer who walks in the door is special!

Had heard and read good things about this place, so expectations were high and it was pleasing to have them not only met but exceeded. Fantastic spot and outlook, parking was easy despite nearby busy sports fields. The coffee was very good - strong and hot. Standard Auckland cafes food prices however given the quality, great value. There are a few unusual dishes - Reuben sandwich, green fritters with poached egg and hollandaise, shakshuri (spicy capsicum with chorizo or feta) - plus the classics but presentation is superb and there are twists in the tail eg the reconstructed caesar salad, everything present and accounted for but not as you'd expect and it tasted delicious. The staff are are real asset too - attentive and very patient, with genuine personalities (all too rare!) We were a large group that took a while to arrive and order, and had a few special requests, yet nothing was a problem. Only slight let down was the noise level - it was hard to hear as this place is so busy and popular.
Julia
My family and I visit Shore Road Cafe all the time! In-fact my father gets his coffee there daily! We cannot fault this place. The service is exceptional, the coffee is flawless and the food is always delicious. We have pretty much tried everything on the menu and it is all fabulous. Well done to the team at Shore Road Cafe - it is exactly what Remuera needed! :)
Michelle
Visited Shore Rd Cafe last Saturday based on the 5 star rating in Canvas magazine and was disappointed. The coffee was ok but not great however, I must say, the espresso milkshake was really good and they gave us the extra that didn't fit in the glass. The food was the let down though. The pumpkin and feta risotto was super sweet (tasted more like a desert than a savoury meal). Another odd thing is that there is no salt and pepper on the tables which we needed for the risotto. We also got the Reuben Sandwich which we were excited about however, again were left a bit unsatisfied. Overall, didn't meet my expectations, but maybe they were too high...

Went there for the first time last weekend. It was busy and deservedly so. Great coffee and the menu looked very good. Loved the artwork on the walls. Will be back.

Nice location and great Espresso, I did not need to eat there although what was on offer looked nice - I really enjoyed the sunny morning with good tunes sounding fantastic through nice KEF speakers! Great ambience....coffee tastes so much better with good music :)

The best cafe in Auckland from the exceptional owner! Have been for brunch, and the french toast was amazing, the coffee unbeatable. Have also had take out coffees when passing by. Cafes don't get better than this. Nice outdoor decked area and inside seating. This joints busier than hell, but well worth the wait for a table if you arrive at a peak time.
Kelly Boyce
As always, the team who are well known to many from their previous cafe's have provided a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The coffee is always great, and as old Jafa regulars we were welcomed and had coffee's at our table before we even sat down.
A menu with some old favourites and a few new twists provides simple, well prepared meals and there is also a well stocked cabinet with yummy sandwiches and cakes.
The chefs here are truly amazing, they provide such consistently good food that is hard to find elsewhere. You can tell that they enjoy what they do.
The scrambled eggs are ALWAYS great and if you want a truly scrumptious risotto you can always count on them.
Well done guys, we'll be back. OFTEN. And will be recommending to as many as we can.
David Boshier
Shore Rd Cafe has just been opened by the guys from Jafa/Benediction fame. This time around they have done it again with fantastic coffee and food to match, only this time the parking is better.

Our selection of eggs and black Pudding along with tomato and avocado on toast hit the mark for breakfast.

Well worth a visit.
