Review Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant - Auckland Central

Very delicious meal ever tasted. I just love their authentic receipe. Eating healthy under strict diet/conditions eat here at Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant. I would recommend any one to try this Vegetarian restaurant for a start. Vegetables has great potentiated nutrients in one’s diet, so at least this cuisine got it sorted for one.

Went in today and to my delight, discovered that most of the dishes are vegan. Had a great lunch here, good portions for value. Would definitely come back again for a quick bite.

Amazing food! Was surprised to find something that tasted just like the way they cook back home. The food carried an authentic Indian flavor, something you don't get to find here quite often. The decor was not flashy, very minimal and there was no fan/ cooler etc (visited in Dec 2015 when the temperatures were boiling). They could do well with better decor and good ventilation. Will visit them again just for the food.

Amazing traditional food, Lovely sweet treats and a super friendly server. We had an amazing lunch here and feel like more people need to visit!!! I've recommended this place to everyone. Go and try some legitimate curries! You won't regret it :) :) :)

A good option in CBD if you are looking for Pure Vegetarian Indian food. Prices are slightly high considering the quantity of curries they give, but it's worth trying. Please don't expect typical restaurant style taste here, its more like home cooked food.

Very nice vegetarian Indian food! We found it just walking by(not listed in google as Indian food). Loved the food so we came back the next day with 2 more families that had just arrived to join our group. The staff was very accommodating to our large group even in the cozy establishment. Limited menu if your looking for lots of dishes. But we loved the Dosa and Pav Bhaji. The mango lassi was good too! The staff even made dosa filling with low mirchi for the kids. (But I suspect they can’t always do that )

Excellent simple home style cooked food. Have been going here for so many years every time i am in Auckland. superb Gujarati vegetarian place with freshly cooked food that you cant fault in anyway.

Simple vegetarian indian food done well! Friendly owner and cooks and just lovely food. Try the dosa, they are huge and amazing (pic doesn’t show it but the middle is lovely veggie curry mix).

Wandered in here by chance one time with the wife and now we're hooked! The samosas are the best I've ever had: crunchy exterior surrounds a creamy potato filling sweetly spiced with star anise. Perfect when dipped in their tamarind chutney and while a deal at their regular price they're even 2 for 1 between 11-noon. I would literally eat these for brekkie five days a week and they never get old. Their masala dosa is as good as the best ones I tried in Malaysia (where I fell in love with dosa) and by far the best I've had in Auckland. They have a strong heavenly sour/fermented taste and aroma and a generous amount of filling is still in balance with an enormous wrapper that extends well over the serving plate. Although in some occasions we have had it served a bit soft, it is usually brown and stays crisp throughout eating. It's spicyness is pleasantly tempered by the cooling coconut chutney and/or a mango lassi that they also top with coconut. We have tried some curries here and they are nice as well but it is the dosa and samosas that are really exceptional--a pinnacle food experience in my life that surrounds food. We regret every time we've walked past without knowing--don't make the same mistake!

The food is delicious. No doubt. Amazing home nad3 taste. Authentic India / Gujarati food. The only disappointing thing is bit expensive. Lunch per person is 14 dollars with one Roti and one Sabji and dal rice. 😔

I love eating here. Tasty, cheap , healthy food. Vegetarian, most is vegan and gluten free. Sweets are lovely but most have dairy. Try the dosa and if they have them available, the stuffed chilis or my favourite, the idili.

Queen Street walkers looking for vegetarian Indian food. Then this is the right place. Food taste is good..try the utthapam.and masala dosa if you need a change. Strictly vegetarian eaters can definitely go here. Other savouries and snacks are also available. Place is neatly maintained. Try and thali meals for lunch time. Worth spending money here.

Recommended that I try this restaurant by some family members, and all I can say is.. wow. I highly recommend the Pav Bhaji and the Masala Dosa, it was seriously the best I've had. Will definitely be heading back on my next visit to Auckland.

Great Gujarati vegetarian place. Good portions and tasting like home cooked food. We had the delux thali and the rasoi thali. Nice to see authentic vegetarian Indian food in the area.

Samosa are possibly the best I've ever had. Cheap eats, no frills except for the food! The nice man serving us was very welcoming.

Very nice place and delicious food

Tastes and feels like home. Not the cheapest food on Karangahape Road but definitely good value.

Best Masala Dosa I have had outside India!
Adarsh Chaturvedee
Mild mannered owners serve the food. That pretty much sums up the service. The place has a fair amount of seats for customers. The store is clean and the food is good too. A little variety in the dishes available would go a long way in making Rasoi more viable for me.

The Food was okay! You can feel the taste of homemade Indian food here. They provide number of thali with a limited quantity of food and the quality is not so good. Food was good if you want to try something desi.No water on table and services are careless towards customers.Recommendation: Coconut Chutney of Dosa

Have been coming here on and off for years. Decent food and good service. Reasonable pricing too. Try the chai. The place is an instution of Kroad

The meal was ok-ish!

I did not like the capsicum curry thing as it was on the fat and oily side.

Some of the curries were on the too spicy side for my palate or the taste was a bit metallic.

I went there with a friend for lunch. Dal and curry were too watery and the potatoes were not completely cooked. The portion served for the thali was fine and the staff (the usual lady there) was most accommodating. I am not visiting again.

Love the dhal soup and samosas and the cute soap like candy in the window called barfi. The shared combos are a good price too. Delicious vegetarian

Best Indian restaurant in the country. I like the eggplant curry, okra curry, samosas, stuffed peppers, pickle, yoghurt soup, dhal soup, barfi, kulfi... pretty much everything actually.
Really fantastic food. Indian vegetarian is where it's at, and these guys are at the top of their game! It's funny, I've been coming here since I was 12 years old and I'm 29 now - their quality has not diminished.

Awesome place, very friendly and they cater very well to the Jain diet! The owner Naynaben Bhindi makes authentic Gujarati vegetarian food using fresh ingredients, virtually the same as a home cooked meal. Plenty of variety and if you give advance notice they can virtually do any cuisine that a Gujarati household would have. Could go there every day that I am away from home!
A
Authentic home Gujarati food with none of the creamy fatty nonsense of mainstream westernized Indian restaurants. The food is on the spicier side but I guess that's what the tamarind sauce is for-to help cool down. My favorites are the roti rolls and the sweet treats -barfi. They also let you take away bulk frozen roti rolls and samosas to heat up at home. Highly recommend 💜

I really wanted to try the roti rolls but unfortunately they had run out when I got there. I only tried one snack food because I was on the go, but it was tasty and very reasonably priced. There are a few things available however I don't think I would return because the food just didn't jump out at me.

If you want to try home cooked Indian meals and know the culture of India, come to Rasoi on K'rd. It's a vegetarian restaurant. The meals are cooked in traditional way with artificial colourings. The Chef in this restaurant is a woman. No, I am not being gender bias, but the touch of Indian woman truly brings out the authenticity of home cooked meals. Even the interiors are designed in such way that you will feel You are having a meal in a restaurant in India, makes you feel nostalgic. I have given the rating 4.5 has it lacks the magic of Indian Hospitality, but overall this restaurant is good and you must visit it.

Rasoi is a great place for a cheap, quick meal. Being a newly minted vegetarian means it's often hard to find places which have more then 1 or 2 options so having a newly minted vegetarian place so close to home is great. The curry, for the price, is well worth it. I'm a fan of their capsicum and potato curries which never disappoint.

Great place to get a good cheap vegetarian meal on K road - really can't go wrong here. Definitely a staple of the area, have been going here for years and the quality is consistent.

Usually they are good with the quantities and serving size - they are really nice people - just ask for a bit more if you want more and they will oblige.

Samosas are particularly good here too.

Limited Quantity for the bucks you spend for it. Me and my friend went here for a quick lunch on K'Road. We ordered for the Rani Thali which was insufficient, contrary to our expectations. The Rice was given in a small portion and the 2 gravies provided with it was not enough as well. I understand that the focus for the restaurant owners to gain some big bucks, but they can't attain it without giving focus on Customers and Customer Satisfaction. The Service was a bit on the slower side, comparing that we went around 2 pm when there was no rush for Lunch. #Sluggish. Would not recommend anyone for the ordering Thali from Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant.

I expected great things, not sure why, maybe someone told me about this place. I was a bit surprised at the prices - I think dining in Balmoral and Sandringham has changed my expectations about price and quality for fast Indian food. Dosa batter was pleasantly crispy, but the masala potatoes were a little salty, and the condiments didn't wow. Boyf's thali was okay, but not great. The roti was not his dream roti, and the dahl soup sub par. I suppose it's a good option in the area, though. I remember getting their sweets a long time ago, and they were okay. Certainly had nothing on somewhere like Mithai, but when you're craving barfi, you're craving barfi.
I'd like to try their wada/vada - I have a soft spot for these things, but didn't notice them til we were leaving.

Love this place, will even make a special trip into town just to have lunch here. Superb selection of authentic vegetarian foods and always fresh and tasty. I love to have the masala dosa as a special lunch treat but all the curries are delicious too. Always clean and the staff are friendly and good portion sizes.

Recommended for a quick cheap tasty lunch.

Simply the best food in Auckland..... Well Im sure there are better eateries, but not for the same price tag. The food is outstanding, and everytime I go in here it always makes me happy.
The owners are beautiful people, quaint, respectful, polite and hardworking. The food is always fresh and always tasteful.
The Banana Curry is the most amazing dish I have tried.
I always go here knowing that I can get full up, I can eat here everyday and its cheaper than eating at home. 10/10 everytime.

Delicious, cheap, vegetarian. What more could I ask for? For some reason I didn't start frequenting this place until recently, but now that I've found it I'm going to be a regular. The $6.90 "snack thali" is plenty for me (small appetite) and everything I've tried has been wonderful. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately the decor put me off so didnt stay. Pity as I love vegetarian Indian food.
Think it might be worth the owners sprucing up their restaurant as i am sure it would encourage diners to try their food.

All these years (10 or so) later and this is still a great place to get a guaranteed tasty and filling meal at a reasonable price. Old favourites are still on the menu and much relished along with some delicious new ones. A-OK and then some!

I’m a major foodie from Gujarat. Hence i can say this is as good at it can get considering how far we are from the real state Gujarat. I’m new in town and hence i’ve known this place for a couple a months now. the Dal is fantastic. Nothing fancy about the decor, but the feel in the restaurant is so welcoming with its owner and his wife always curious to know if we liked the food or not.. First timers, i can vouch on the food!! the Deluxe Thali n Bhel r 2 of my favorite orders!! Samosas r yummy too there r great Vegan options here..:))

Top notch authentic Gujarati restaurant. Rasoi is the Gujarati word for cooking. Curries here are quite different from what you see at a typical "tandoori" or other northern indian type restaurant (and much fresher). Very region specific (with exception of the dosa's). Curries are extremely accurate to authentic Gujarat, India. Expect to have the exact same taste as you would find in any small town in Gujarat. Gujarati curries are much simpler than northern indian curries, less saucy, less use of cream and are best when served with fresh ingredients inside, which Rasoi has no shortage of. Important to remember that the curries are extremely healthy here, you will not find heavily creamed butter chicken type curries here. Also Gujarati's and Rasoi are pure vegetarians.

Clean, service is excellent, rotis are made fresh to order, decor is very similar to a Gujarati home! Very minimalist.

I love Rasoi for a cheap, quick eat. I definitely would order a masala dosa, they are made fresh and hot, better than the curries. Not a place for a romantic dinner but a great place for a hard earned lunch after a day of shopping!

I am an Indian and vegetarian. I was looking authentic Indian vegetarian food (Chapati etc.). I found this is the best place for good Indian vegetarian place. You also get Dosa, Rice etc. as well.
Coming from Sydney this is better than lot of upmarket Indian Restaurants if you want basic food. Decor is not impressive but food quality compensates for that. Prices are very cheap.
Anya
Very good Indian vegetarian food here. Premises look very clean. A variety of Indian sweets also available. Decor is basic, no frills, but food affordable and very tasty. Try the dosas too while you're there....yum! If you're also gluten-free, it's quite easy to fill yourself up at Rasoi and come away feeling delightfully well fed.

good food, good prices, decor a little lacking - basic and lets the street noise in. but fo rthe price its a very good feed
