Review Rude Boy Deli & Eatery - Auckland Central

Jemimah
Best oat flat whites in Auckland which surprisingly is hard to find. Rude Boy find the perfect balance of coffee to oat milk, not being too milky or sour (depending on brand of oat milk) as often other places are. We often find ourselves coming back here since there’s food coffee, decent food and usually parking available nearby. Food isn’t bad. It’s a bit pricier but the portions are big so make up for it there. Be warned, the type of fries they use changes so one time you may get shoestring fries and the next you Amy get chunky wedge style (so good). My partner now repeatedly gets the chilli scrambled eggs so must be good. I’ve tried the hotdog twice now and isn’t bad. The coleslaw that comes with it is smothered in mayo though so not the greatest. This times bratwurst was a bit sweeter than last time and with less of a snap but still a decent meal. Their fried chicken wasn’t my favourite and not something I’d get again. The Turkish egg cilbir wasn’t bad but is very yoghurt forward and can be a surprise if not prepared for it. Space is also good for big groups which is a plus. But be warned of overly friendly sparrows who may try take a swipe at your meal.

A really busy cafe, has great cabinet food - salads/lunch foods during the weekday for quick mid work lunch and a gorgeous selection of asian style cakes on the weekend. I love their fresh cream cakes in particular! This choco strawberry cake was also so good. Not too sweet :)

Love the fit out at Rude Boy, which gives the place a great atmosphere. Their cabinet slices are some of the best you’ll find, however I did find the service to be really slow and had to wait close to 15 minutes for what was meant to be a quick coffee on the run. It might be best suited for a dine in situ! Hamish Dorrington Kakapo Business Sales

*Updated 5/12/23: Enjoyed our meals today, keep up the good work! *Updated 21/5/23: As you can see the bacon is now thick cut even though we ordered "streaky". Would have been good to be aware of this change on the menu or while making the order as I wouldn't have ordered any. Friends shoe string fries have also changed to thick cut chips "wedges" which again wouldn't have been ordered. Ciabata crust was too hard to cut and inedible. Points lost and probably wouldn't hurry back. *Updated 13/11/22: As below however eggs were tasteless this time. Nice cosy cafe with decent food and coffee.

Very busy place food looks fabulous in cabinet so inviting 😋 I had creamy mushrooms and bacon and my daughter had the fluffy pancakes omg

Wow, this place is amazing. Food was to die for. We ordered pork belly bene and big breakfast. Taste was sòoo good.
Jessie
Gorgeous cafe with gorgeous food (and gorgeous staff? 😉). Everything was tasty & the waitress was so nice. There are so many great options; I'd love to come back & try more when I get the chance.

Nice menu. Decent sized portions. Great dessert/cake selection. Go hungry or go home! Recommended.
Mika
Very tasty and fresh, high quality ingredients and nice atmosphere. Many many dessert options as well! Contrary to what some of the other reviews say, I found the staff to be helpful and nice. Overall, good brunch spot!
Mick Anderson
Good, sharp service. Nice brekky with Bok Choy added which is healthy and filling. Only downside is quite noisy with all the hard surfaces
Geena Van Reenen
Loved this place. Super reasonably priced - we only had dessert but it was great, couldn’t fault it. The snickers pie was incredible! And their service was fast and attentive despite being super busy
Julia
Lovely cafe with lots of dessert options. We went there for sweets and coffee after lunch. All cakes and slices are reasonably priced and tasty. Outdoor seating area is pretty cool. Would definitely return!

Pretty trendy interior and at a very nice location. A bit pricey but fair enough considering all things. Got the big breakfast which was alright but I couldn't order much else as my body doesn't know how to process dairy well and so that was one of my very limited options of breakfast. But I was eyeing everyone else's orders around me with their buttermilk chicken waffles and whatnot - they all looked mouthwatering! Also a must try drink for me is their iced matcha with coconut milk!! Also so soso many dessert options including dairy and gluten free!

Great selection of bakery items. Eclectic mix of seating options which is great for singles and groups. Can wait awhile for coffee at peak times. Coffee has been a bit hit and miss for me, but it’s my local so convenience is key. It is probably the most expensive in along the street. Most staff are friendly and professional.

Huge variety of fresh cream cakes, tart cakes and cheesecakes to choose from and the variety seems to change each time I go. First time trying food from menu, slightly expensive but tasted good

Such a nice place for brunch!! Friendly staff and beautiful food, full of different textures and flavours!! The cabinet food was looking so good that we decided to take away 2 different cake slices(Creamy kumara cake and Apple crumble cheesecake ) and they were super fresh and yummy!! ✓ point as one favorite place for brunch in Auckland :)

Had a good food experience here, very tasty and surprisingly big portion. Maybe too heavy for breakfast but thats ooookaaay! Will definitely come back to try some other menu.

Generally don’t do omelettes when dining out for breakfast as I can whip them up at home BUT this one is worth writing home to your mother about. Presentation wise it made my eyes hungry like a wolf 😋 and the combination of both taste and textures threw a glorious party for my tastebuds. Worth trying folks 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I was attracted by their nice food presentation. The portion size is fair.
Vast selections for the cabinet food.

Food:(5/5)
We had the creamy mushroom and big breakfast and also some desserts from the cabinet. All of them were super tasty, especially the creamy mushrooms so creamy and delicious.
Service: (10/5)
The girl who served us was very friendly and caring, who explained and recommended the dishes to us patiently.
This is going to be my go-to brunch place! Highly recommend it!!
Eatateeaten
Thursday brunch at this cozy place. We had fluffy hotcake and friend chicken. I would strongly recommended ordering these two menus. Both of them tasted super good!! The portions were very big and worth the price. They also have a huge selection of cabinet food. I will return to this place to try the cabinet food.

The cabinet food selection is nice. I wish they had more menu selection. The coffee and drinks are good. Overall - a very nice lunch/brunch spot. Just wish for more menu options, especially for whose with special dietary requirements.

Amazing range of cabinet food including sweet and savoury. We had both the vegan and meat big breakfast which were HUGE, but too tasty to leave any on the plate. On our second visit we had the mushrooms and fried chicken... again, delicious! Only negative is the messy tables and lack of clearing empty plates. A definite regular lunch spot for us!

Brunch reverses the pain of a heavy night before. Came here to ease the pain and boy did it. Coffee was on point and so was the breakfast. The eggs benny's here was awesome. Could have done with a touch more hollandaise but then again, I'm a sucker for it. The highlight though was the brazillian cheese balls. They were so good I started searching up the ingredients to make them on the drive back.

Really nice cafe, I feel like I have a hit and miss with choosing food as some things I love and others weren’t that nice in my opinion! Staff were super friendly and food comes out fast! Coffee was decent too

😍Last weekend catch up at @rudeboydelieatery with @missfoodraveller was amazing. Phenomenal food and great company. ❤️They have been one of our favorite cafés in CBD. Always amazed by how pretty their food looks and their wide range of cabinet collection.

Have been seeing lots of photos of their hot cakes and it just looks too pretty to eat 😋. I got the Chicken Taco which is one of my fave, crispy taco on the bottom and the chicken is super soft. Well marinated packed with flavors even with the slaw on top. The Fried Chicken also looked so mouth watering with some hashtag fries🍟
Food For Thought
nice place
but the rudies big breakfast is not nice to mush rubbish
its supposed to be breakfast guys .
coffee was average .
Lucy
Loved the food here. Menu food great and who could resist the cabinet food? Those slices are delicious! Decent size portions for what you pay for and service is pretty good! Prefer this place over Winona forever because it’s less packed and there’s usually parking right out front.
Stacey
Wowww we had the hot cakes and the fried chicken. Initially we thought the portion sizes were on the smaller side but the large plates are deceiving!

The hot cakes were insane, so thick and soft. The maple syrup and blueberry compote were perfect. Not too sweet but enough to make the hot cakes moist. The fried chicken was really delicious too, the fried chicken was crispy rather than crunchy which was really nice. The chicken itself was cooked really well and was tender. The hashtag fried and the sauce were both great!

Service was good, food came out really zoomy. Will defs be back - cabinet food looked epic!

Couldn't fault it! You'd be hard pressed to find better value at $19 for a big brekkie. The option was new, and I'm glad theyve changed it. Nothing wrong with the way the old one looks (it was my first time here) but this new one is a little more adventurous, with enough familiarity. Pork roulade, broccolini, lamb saus, brazilian cheese puffs, roasted tomatoes, poached eggs, mushrooms, black bean hummus. Great to see they have named vegan options too, something for everyone!
Tony Ma
Great price, great food, great experience.

Every single dish cooked and prepped tasted delicious, was very impressed with the quality.

The only bad dish was the curry rice, because they didn’t use good Japanese rice, if they used better quality rice the dish would be perfect.

Service: 4/5
Environment: 5/5
Presentation: 4/5
Food Quality: 4.5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Price per person: $20
Joohee Grace Park
One of my favourite cafes! The portions are very generous, and the food is as good as it looks.
The staff are attentive but it does get busy at peak times. Will keep going back :)

One close to my office, they offered a lot of tempting food for breakfast and lunch. Also good hot chocolate and coffee to start the morning
Mel
The young lady there was so nice. We went here on first table and was a wonderfully experience. Lovely quiet on. Saturday night and food was delicious. That spaghetti slow pork rib was heaven! DELICIOUS.

@rudeboydelieatery sure know how to do salads right! 🥗 The lamb was cooked soooo well and the yoghurt and greens added a lot of freshness 😍 I also ordered the Hella Green smoothie which was the most delish way to fit in my 5+ a day 🥬🍌🥥 definitely heading back there to check out their new menu! 😌

Large Chicken Ceasar to take away - not so cheap. Hmm no egg.... oh well. Only one piece of chicken - about the size of my thumbnail, and the rest was stalky lettuce and soggy toast.

complete Rip Off.

The environment is beautiful and well-decorated. The staff are attentive and it is a nice lunch/brunch spot in town. I came here with a friend using the grabone first table lunch deal. This gives 50% off all the food and made the lunch very affordable.

I ordered the hotcakes which were delicious and beautiful, it was super filling but definitely not one of the healthier options (but worth it!). My friend ordered the kimchi pancake, which is relatively spicy, but delicious and filling as well. We got a halloumi side which was good but slightly salty for my tastes, my friend liked it though.

Overall, I would recommend this spot for a lunchtime treat meal, but the prices are not super cheap or affordable for students. That said, it was a very pleasant lunch especially with the deal!

Staff are always friendly and helpful with recommendations. A lot of selection in the cabinet but menu food always delivers for us! Dessert range is exceptional.

Delicious food, good coffee, really friendly staff, cool vibe. Ordered egg bene and dumpling and were both decent. Keen to try more food next time!
MCP
Cute little cafe, they cabinet is filled with deliciously looking food - got to try their donut last time, so yummy and perfect sweetness; not to mention their fried chicken was so good

It’s rude not to eat everything on the menu @rudeboydelieatery 🍴😁. I had my birthday breakfast at this quirky place yesterday and absolutely fell in love with them. Aucklanders you are damn lucky 😍.
Jessica Alise
tasty food and good coffee. food presentation was beautiful, cabinet was amazing (I wanted to eat all of it!). good service and awesome atmosphere

When I first came to Rude Boy, I was unimpressed with the service and the price of the food was really high. But recently, the staff has been really friendly, fast and nice to deal with. The food is way more reasonably priced with quite alot of good options, including healthy. I am very impressed
Lisa L
Really nice atmosphere. Food looked and tasted amazing. Hot cakes are a def recommend and it looks like they have a good selection of cabinet food too.
Mashed_Potato
We tried Rude Boy after seeing it's beautiful food presentation. Incredible! The taste is as good as the presentation for a complete experience.
A little expensive, $50, for 2 people for a brunch but the experience is well worth it.

The fried chicken is tender, delicious and the accompanying fries with chipotle aioli is a delicious mouthful and highly recommended:)

Will be back!

Went there on Mothers Day. It was busy but not insane when we went. Had booked a table for myself. hubby, mother and father. Nobody offered to seat us. Had to ask for menus. The menu was limited. Nobody took our order. I had to get up and order for us at the counter. You could only order prosecco by the "glass"...all other wine was by the large bottle. The food was tasty but the service and lack of ambience sucked. Wouldve stayed for coffee but nobody asked if we wanted any and it was very loud in there anyway.
Ashlee
Took a working brunch at Rude Boy. I have always found the service to be impeccable - staff are down to earth and are super accommodating. The cabinet food portions are huge without compromising taste and quality. Dine in coffees are on the smaller side but they are still good. The menu food is insane! So well presented, giant portions and great flavours. Highly recommend the hot cakes and kimchi omelette. The time from order to table was less than 10mins. Will definitely be back!

One of the new places on the block at Freemans Bay. It’s nice to have a brunch spot that open on a Saturday around the Freemans bay area. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the lay out with the outside seats being on a hill and the inside seats feeling rather cramped. The food was both irresistible to the mind and for the tongue.

I’m an absolute sucker for places that make food with vibrant colors and Rude Boy Deli had a range of beautiful looking sweats and savory’s through the display cabinets. I picked up one of their smallish sweets and loved how spongey the cake was. In terms of the mains fried chicken, creamy mushroom, kimchi pancake and vegetable stack all came out looking glorious. The portion size is fantastic and the meals were top notch. Kimchi pancake and the fried chicken waffles being particular stand outs.

Showstopper: Kimchi Pancake and Fried Chicken Waffles
.

Overall Grade: B+

Nice place to go out for a lunch and have alot of options to choose from. It feels like order extra to get to taste more in same day.
Salads, smoothie and rice, pie... Good place to dineout with friends and order as per your choice.
Cat
Staff friendly enough but terribly slow to take orders and deliver drinks (one of which was forgotten altogether). My meal was the big breakfast and we also had a date scone from the counter - both were very good. I would come back for the counter food but probably wouldn’t order from the menu. Overall I give Rude Boy 3.5/5.

This place is hidden away and unsuspecting, we went on a Sunday morning and were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. The food was all really amazingly presented and tasted delicious. The only thing I will mention is that it’s quite expensive and the portion size (I got smashed avo on toast, extra halloumi) wasn’t very big. Other people in the group I was with seemed to have a much larger plate and their food looked delicious as well. All in all a great place, nice ambience and the food presentation is insane.

Me and my mate had an early breakfast and I had the smoothie bowl! Oh so delicious, I recommend it. I also had my go to iced soy latte and that was good too. Staff are friendly and the ambience is great and clean. Heaps of cabinet food too and all looked good, hoping they had more vegan options though. Also their vegan big breakfast wasn’t available on the menu when I went, must have changed the menu. Otherwise good cafe, worth a try :)
Mike
Never had such rude service especially from the Asian girl with the tattooed forearms !....this morning I ordered a chocolate smoothie came out warm and I specially asked for it to be ice cold !!.sent it back to blend more ice in it ...she slammed it on my table with out so much as sorry here it is again ....still not ice cold !!hope every thing is ok ..”/no eye.contact ....nothing ,if this the level of service this new place is setting they won’t last !!....

Friendly staff and amazing cabinet food selection, we ordered from the menu though.. and they did not disappoint! Really good portion and beautifully presented. The iced Americano was delicious! Wish this cafe is closer to my place so I can visit more often :)
Frank
The freshest and hippest new cafe opening in the CBD. For the first few weeks the queues were so long it was impossible to get in, but luckily no problem now... Salads are glorious and very reasonably priced, but the selection of cakes and slices is completely out of this world. You need to see to believe....everything is just so fantastical and delicious looking. Also quite a good menu and seating options. Make this your go to place if you are near Sale St... 👍👍👍

Came here with my nana and pop for my birthday today and I must say - this food & service is amazing! We all got the lemon and poppyseed pancakes and they were so well flavoured and garnished - fresh fruit, dried fig, buckwheat, mascarpone, walnuts and edible flowers. The hot chocolate was also a hit with a beautiful house made marshmallow. Don’t have a bad thing to say - will come back again soon.

Discover this place a couple of days ago. Awesome!!!Came back today with friends, I had the puffed granola this time. Was not disappointed. Great coffee. Great service. My new hang.

Reading some of the reviews from other contributors, I'd say the experiences one has are largely dependent on what you come across on the day. Safe to say that this place probably isn't as consistent as it should be, but on the day, I definitely had a great time.

I love a place that has a lot of space and doesn't make you feel like you have to pull in your stomach just to walk around between the seats. There were ample seating here, we had a group of 8 with one toddler, the team here were very helpful to seat us on a long table. We weren't up against any other tables, and looking around, most other tables are also quite well spaced. Love it.

I did not take any counter food, I should have, because they all looked super good (see photos), I will be back just for these.

It didn't take long for the staff to come and take our orders, I don't remember the names of everything below, but I got the Kimchi Omelette. Holy crap this was so good. Perfectly cooked egg and just the right amount of kimchi and spiciness. If there is one thing I want to complaint about, is that there isn't enough rice noodles in here guys! I love rice noodles, it would have been awesome to have a bit more of it.

I also had a taste of the burger - the bun was a bit dry for a brioche if i'm honest, but the rest was superb. Fries on this thing was the bomb, the patty was so thick and juicy, absolutely delicious.

They had the hallertau beer, so I had to grab one, but everyone who did order coffee said it was really good, including my wife, who had the decaf iced latte.

To top it off, there was plenty parking to be found around the restaurant, had to pay but it was there, nothing worse than going out to eat and then leaving because there is no parking.

Overall, I'd be back, gladly. Great vibes, great staff, great food. Well done guys, RUDE!

Food, service and coffee were all lacking. I went there on a weekday mid-morning and ordered a roast vege salad from the cabinet which arrived cold and without dressing. I wasn't asked if I wanted it heated. It was very dry and lacked seasoning. Also $9.50 for a "medium" salad of that quality is outrageous. The "medium" is tiny and I'm not a big eater. I also ordered a filter coffee with it which didn't arrive. After eating the salad for 10 minutes, I went to the counter to ask about it. Sat back down and the coffee arrived 5 minutes later -- it was an espresso (not what I ordered) and lacked in flavour. I would understand these mistakes if they were busy but it was a very quiet weekday morning around 10am.

Also, trying to read the hand written labels for the cabinet food is very confusing as the labels aren't situated directly in front of the food they're for.

Not a great experience.

A modern and very chic brunch spot with great ambience and good food.

The vibrant decorations and paintings on the walls brings out the vibrant vibes of the place.

We came in on a busy Saturday lunchtime and the service was still on point for us, no long waits or inattentive staff.

The food was good, your usual upmarket cafe food with a bit of a twist. It definitely wasn’t the “most amazing” food I’ve had but the ambience and high quality ingredients make the experience worthwhile.

Definitely a go to spot for brunches and coffee.
I_like_pickles
Portion sizes are decent and the food is very vibrant with all the fresh garnishes. I like the big plates and how the food is presented.

Reasonable pricing and the service is quick and friendly. Nice place for a brunch or lunxh with friends and family.

Oh Boi, a hidden gem. Walked in and saw they had amazing cabinet food. Food Presentation was very cool and catchy. I ordered a vegan breakfast ( yes lots of veggies for a brekkie) and ordered a side of poached egg. The black bean hummus was yum and overall super delicious. A little disappointed in service, as we sat and waited for our order to be taken but had to give the order at the counter. Definitely coming back again for my next experience. #aucklandfoodie #loveforbrekkie

Ambience - 4
Service - 3
Food - 4
Value for money - 3.5

The service at rude boy was really lacking this morning. We didn't see the sign order at the counter and assumed that they will take the order at our table especially after they took our coffee orders. It's a simple gesture to remind us that we can order at the counter when giving us our coffees...the waiter also told us that he was "too busy to take our orders" anyway and I was literally shocked to hear that...the food was fantastic but unfortunately the experience was no way near what the food delivered.

In vogue vibe with funky decor. Colourful well presented cabinet food, but could do with a few more savory selections. Interesting and very tasty menu. Food on the menus really is fantastic. Staff are generally friendly and efficient. Pretty good cafe, but you have to have time, as food and coffer does take a while to come
Charissa
Good area , plenty of options but nothing exceptional. For a not so busy Friday morning “almost forgetting my milk “ can cost a star sometimes.
Stumbled upon this fantastic cafe today, the atmosphere is amazing with amazing food, drinks, I couldn’t fault a thing! Would recommend highly to anyone. The cabinet food are very well priced for their size, honestly quite big but fantastic, like not small scummy thing that you usually find in other cafes. I am 100% coming back here as often as I can

One of the best places for breakfast ! Coffee is awesome, the bananana loaf was delicious ❤️ I was little disappointed by cheese and spinach scone, I expected more cheesy. Staff was friendly and ambiance was great.

One of the famous chains across Auckland, I had to try this one but sadly it’s pretty similar to the rest.
I got the Granola which was tasty, but was lacking anything substantial for me to lap it up I.e yoghurt or milk. The spread around the side was thin - needed more.
My friend had the salmon and bene which she enjoyed - probably the better pick.

Rude Boy is very much same flavours as all other cafes of this chain, but the location was friendly and staff were quick to seat us and take our order. The cabinet food isn’t as spectacular as its counterparts although the rocky road is not to miss (not pictured) it was delish - ate it before I had my breakfast.
Coffee not too bad but not great, and prices are standard for Auckland brunch although not value for money.
Overall, it’s an okay spot but I probably won’t go out of my way for it again - except for that rocky road.
3.5 from me

New cafe / deli in Sales Street.
Staff are friendly, prices are reasonable, food is good.
Been here twice now. First time was coffee and muffin, great experience.
Second time, coffee and bacon brioche. I would have given a 4......except this time we sat down at a dirty table, which we had to clean with napkins. Not happy. Bacon brioche with coffee....delish.

Came here on a Sunday during brunch. It was SUPER busy, quoted around a 45 minute wait for menu food. I was starving so we got stuff from the cabinet.

The brioche (x2 pictured) is pretty nice and a good cabinet option. All their cabinet food looks pretty appetising and the presentation is pretty. I did ask for the brownie to go but it came on a plate anyway, not too upset since it was really busy. It was really rich and dense, not that moist if that’s your thing. Not my favourite kind of brownie but it wasn’t bad.

I wouldn’t mind going again since the menu food did look interesting, maybe for dinner. Overall I would say it was 3.5/5.

Great vibe, Great menu, delicious food and helpful friendly staff. We had a fantastic brunch here and will be making it a regular haunt. The cakes and treats are to die for. Best. Caramel. Slice. Ever.

LOVED how pretty the food is! Especially those ones in the cabinet, really eye catchy :)

Came at lunch time and had the kale salad with nuts and raisins. Too much raisins and quite expensive for a small salad.. Still keen to come back and give it another go, maybe with the cheese scones this time (see previous photos the look amazing!)

Sister Cafe Winona Forever is my favourite brunch spot so only fitting to try out their new cafe Rude Boy for a Friday lunch with the team. Delicious food, great sized portions and i cant speak more highly of the service!

We had the fried chicken (with delish mash) chicken schnitzel sandwich and Frida bowl! Top work. We will be back

One of the best delis on the block I have to say I have been overwhelmed with the amazing choice both savoury and sweet can't wait till I get the opportunity to go again.

Stumbled upon here by chance and really glad we did. Great friendly service and very helpful. Food was so tasty, the snickers slice was delicious but not too sweet which is hard to come by. Would highly recommend for a quick coffee or a bite on your lunch break

Lovely setting, situated in a somewhat hidden but visible area, with wide open windows and doors. Once inside, the paintings and decorations around the place reminds you of a free bird, with chandeliers that seem like large round tables. Went past lunchtime so the selection of cabinet food was limited, but the crumbles in the cabinet shows you how well they had done throughout the day. The food was fantastic, so many to choose from and definitely will go for more. The staff were nice, coffee was great but the ambience was best.

4/5 service
5/5 food
5/5 ambience

Service : - 10/5 (no this is not a typo)
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 4/5

Firstly, I have to say the food was so so good, hence why they managed to get an overall 4/5 despite the pathetic so called service. We ordered the Fried chicken and mash, Persian pork meatballs and Chicken schnitzel sandwich. The meatballs and chicken sandwich were absolutely stunning dishes! Very generous with the sauce, well flavored and very balanced and even the bread served was devine.

Now the not so good... Service hmm astonishingly abysmal. When I found out later that the same people owned Winona Forever, I understood the shocking service (you may refer to my review on them). We went on a Saturday lunch time so definitely their busiest time of the week, however still unforgivable. The manager asked all of us who were queuing inside to move outside to wait hence all positions were lost and jumbled. Due to this, we were made to wait about 40 min for a table. After being seated and given more than ample time to look over the menu, we were asked if we were ready to order - yes! She said she will be right back. Took her 20 min to remember to come back to us. After ordering to getting food = 1 hr wait. ALL wait staff unattentive (just standing at the kitchen watching/pressuring the kitchen staff), & they were very unapologetic. (This is as diplomatic I can be)

I would definitely come back to eat again, maybe try come another day at a quieter time or take away as this is the most generous and tastiest meal I've had in Auckland in a long while.
Claire
Great food, but for goodness sake sort out your staff. There's a sign on the door asking you to wait to be seated, so I waited, and waited... Finally a staff member noticed me, I asked for a table for two and he pointed past the counter and told me there were a few tables "over there". I'm still not sure if I was supposed to order at the counter - sat at the table for a bit with no service, went and stood in a queue for a while then flagged down another staff member who said they'd come and take our order. No water offered at any point and our table needed a wipe down. Lots of waiters wandering around looking lost too. Train your staff, or come up with a better process and explain it to your customers.

As I love Winona Forever, I was excited to give Rude Boy a go for brunch on a weekend morning.

Service was average - hard to know what to do when you walk, and found it interesting you go up to the counter to order, but easily forgivable, some of the staff were really friendly and welcoming, others not so much (didn't find the person at the counter friendly).

Coffee was okay, not amazing and could have been warmer.

Now food, this was where I was not impressed, I ordered the cured salmon with rosti (i.e. no mention of egg on the menu). I do not eat eggs so was not happy that when the dish turned up a main part of it was poached eggs. I could only pick around it and eat the salmon and (cold) rosti. To be honest, felt I had been robbed, if you are going to have eggs with the dish, at least include it on the menu as you did with any of the other dishes with eggs.

Only saving grace from the visit were the cabinet treats which were thankfully as good as what you get at Winona Forever.

Don't think I'll be making the effort to return to Rude Boy, I feel like this place had the potential to be great, just right now doesn't quite hit the mark.

So I decided to give this place a go inspite of mixed feed back (mostly negative) from others who have tried this place!

I decided to begin with the basic and ordered a mocha!! And I tell you what..... it was the most disgusting mocha I have ever had!! It tasted like diluted milo with a hint of coffee and forget about any cocoa dusting on the top as there was none!!!! I also got the double chocolate cookie and I would rather just get one from subway next time as it tastes better!

I wouldn’t even dare try any of their other food given they can’t even get their coffee right!!
It’s great to have central cafe open at 6.30am during the week for the pre-work coffee & breakfast.
Parking was very easy out the front of the cafe.
They have a huge amount of cabinet food, including delish looking sweet treats & salads. The menu also had some classic & innovative options.
Coffee was well made. Service friendly. Lots of great spots to sit too.
I was tempted to try the waffles, but being a chilly morning I ordered the porridge. I’d read reviews saying it lacked flavour, but I found it really tasty with maple syrup already poured over, perfectly cooked rhubarb & some very sweet/sour dried berries.
Will be back to try those waffles!

Not much selection on the menu for vegetarians here unless you have a sweet tooth. I ordered the mushroom dish, it was really plain, no sauce of any kind and had these funky looking enoki mushrooms laid on top which I wasn’t keen on at all. They do have an amazing looking selection of cakes and pastries etc. and the chicken schnitzel sandwich a lot of people were ordering looked really good. One thing that needs sorting out is that it wasn’t clear when we showed up whether we go and find a seat or wait to be seated, like Winona Forever, and for the numerous staff they had working they should really have someone at the door to explain as people come in as we also had to order at the counter. I’d definitely recommend Winona Forever over coming here but may try Rude Boy again in the future if they have a menu change.

Great food, simple ingredients and meals executed really well. Very reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere, family friendly. Prompt service, very polite staff. Would definitely eat here again.
Tried the custard slice, big breakfast, and salmon hash.
Edit (after a second visit 6 months later): menu changes seasonally which is great but was disappointed that they got rid of the fried chicken. The quality of the food seemed to have declined after opening week but it was still good. Not sure if this would be my choice for brunch considering their sister cafe Winona Forever is so good and in the same price range.

Great environment very young and cool. Great food and portion size. Had to wait around 20 mins for food but was well worth it. Had the brownie waffle with ginger crunch ice cream. Very very yummy would recommend.

Fourth day in since opening for the first time and the place was packed out! Was not surprised we had to wait 30min for our meal it was that busy. Friendly staff welcomed us in together with their amazing cabinet of sweets available. Overall the food was delicious! Would definitely come back but to try out their dinner menu.

Hubby and I went for lunch today and it was quite busy, but we found a table. We loved the decor and the openness - plenty of sunshine pouring in the large windows. The decor was very cool and we got lots of smiles from the friendly staff. We were quite surprised and impressed when our server remembered us from Major Tom, especially since it was quite a while ago when we went there!
I had the Brownie Waffle, and it was amazing, absolute decadence. Hubby ordered the chicken on mashed potatoes and really enjoyed it. Big thumbs up from both of us.

Place was packed, chaotic really. North facing, so sun beaming in, needed sunnies for sure. Long line at the til to order and waited 40 minutes to eat. Schnitzel sandwich was pretty good, hot chocolate Ok. Service below average as others have stated - as in dude couldn't be too bothered. Gonna give the benefit of the doubt since early days. Will be back once settled in and maybe try off peak...
