Review Greenwoods - Cafe And Eatery - Auckland Central

Love to see this spot is taken over by such a cute eatery! The food here is quite unique and not your standard cafe eggs bene and what not. They've got quite a light/healthy theme to their meals but equally filling. And the service was good too. Only four star though because flavour wise it was quite normal, but I'd still come here for a good meal

Greenwood’s Cafe & Eatery in Epsom was an exciting find of a cafe to venture upon. With good parking outside on the side street, I was excited to peruse their bakery and try their Supreme espresso. We order a soy latte and trim cappuccino and everyone was very impressed by the coffee. We were on our way out Mission Bay and were craving an em rite caffeine hit. I also tried the cheesecake brownie which was nice and went well with the coffee however our love to return to lunch in!

Good cafe! Just came in to do some reading over a coffee and scone. The coffee and scone were wonderful (generous with the butter which is nice) and the staff were helpful. Particularly love the decor with the multitude of plantlife! A little bit of noise from the busy road if you happen to be sitting on the outer area. The pictures of the food look great - I can't personally comment but I would probably come here for a brunch meetup.

The service was decent. Didn't get over waited, and felt looked after. The food didn't take too long to come out and was of good quality. We tried both the sweet and savoury Japanese souffle pancakes.

Stopped in for lunch and had the Fresh Start (fresh fruit, granola, and toast) and the Choripan (chorizo sausage in roll. Both we presented really nicely. The food seemed fresh and the coffee was perfect. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Perfect lunch experience

Lovely cafe with attentive staff. We had the Japanese souffle pancakes and the avocado garden. Exactly what I wanted when I started craving brunch food and not the most expensive cafe I've been to (though certainly not cheap). Highly recommend.

Nice food, well presented. Good strong coffee (we had long blacks) if a little pricey.

I would go back to this cafe again simply to have the coffee. It was beautiful! The food was good too with a nice range. The cakes and coffee however are definitely this cafe’s strength.

Excellent food and service. Good portions at a fair price.

Wonderful experience. If you like pancakes, you will love their black pancakes 👍

Fantasic place to eat! My partner and I came here and am very impressed. Not only does the food taste great but the service is out of this world! Highly recommend. A gem tucked away totally worth discovering.

Came for a business meeting 12/3/18 at 08:06am. Front staff were friendly and accommodating. I ordered a poridge and a flat white. Finished 3/4 of my tasty and delicious poridge until I feel something sharp in my mouth. I decided to spit it out and I find a piece of alluminium. It looked like a aluminium piece that has detached itself from a aluminium sponge. My colleagues were horrified and disgusted noticing I spit an aluminium shred. One of your staff has identified and confirmed it was coming from the kitchen. She was very apologistic and very nice. Your kitchen hand really need to sort their stuff out. Honestly, do they look into poisoning or possibly killing their customers? I appreciate the staff offering the meal free and being of a great service. Sort your crap out with your kitchen staff whoever cleaned and cooked my poridge. Glad my director who ate a poridge as well didn't get a piece of metal in her poridge. I DO NOT Recommend this cafe for lack of care with their food. All the other ordered coffes and food were good.

Came in for lunch and coffees with my family the other day and the food was delicious, the coffee superb and our waiter Rob was excellent and very accommodating! Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu!

Coffee amazing, always spot on. Best soufflé pancakes!

Great selection of food! So much it is hard to decide. The pies are delicious and pastry top standard. Coffee is organic and lovely. Offers a full cooked breakfast on Saturday only but the cabinet has so much it would accommodate every possible taste.
The staff are friendly and happy and very efficient.

The easiest place that I have found to dine with my mum! She has so many good intolerances, yet she found something delicious and easy to get both times, without any fuss (usually she has to give a big list of what she can't eat). She had eggs Benedict the first time and the next day she had the parmesan waffles with bacon!

Very surprised. Came early morning. Saw fettuccini carbonara and asked if it was available. The friendly staff told me yes so I ordered.

I didn’t have my hopes up because over half the restaurants in Auckland can’t cook noodles properly let alone cook decent carbonara.

I was very impressed when I took the first bite. I wanna go back for more. Extremely well prepared and delicious. The pancakes were yummy too, just remember to ask for more condensed milk.

Service: 5/5
Environment: 4.5/5
Presentation: 4/5
Food Quality: 5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Price per person: $20-$25

Mom lives in this area, but i always think there's no good place to eat until i found this cafe. Environment is nice and makes me feel relax, black pancake is amazing.

First time visiting and would definitely come again, beautifully presented food and attention to allergies which is always great. Everyone really enjoyed their food although the savoury waffles with confit duck was apparently quite dry and needed more sauce to go with it. The sweet waffles were insanely good, they even had a creme brulee apple in the centre which was a bit of a novelty, never had that before. The reason I rated 4 rather than 5 was because one of the coffees was delivered like warm (which in fairness was replaced free of charge) and the sauce situation with the savoury waffles.

Really kind staff. Super attentive and accommadating. Ordered cabinet food, chia cup, a Berry pastry and the chicken sandwich. Personally LOVED the chia cup and chicken sandwich. Tasted amazing. And decently priced for fresh cafe cabinet food. Would def want to come back and purchase again.

Was greeted by friendly staff upon arrival and was fascinated by the simplicity of the design of the cafe but it still felt comfortable to dine In. Their menu design is innovative and cool to look at as well. They don't have a large range of cabinet food but enough to choose from.

Their menu items are pretty standard and not that much to choose from. I had the eggs on toast with a side of smoked salmon and I must say the food is quite remarkable. The scrambled eggs were soft and tasteful. The salmon was thinly sliced and the smokiness gave the dish an extra flavour. They also grinded fresh pepper which was nice.

Though I do think they could be more generous with the portion for the price you pay.

Went here on a Sunday morning for brunch. I ordered the Greenwood Benedict and my fiance ordered scrambled eggs with bacon with a flat white. The coffee was great but the food was a miss. We both had bacon and mine was cooked perfectly while my fiances was under cooked. His scrambled eggs were very bland and my poached eggs were overcooked. We both ended up feeling sick for a few hours after eating this. Wouldn't recommend.

Very good coffee and food.
Friendly staff and nice environment. Although the parking was very limited.
We eventually find one 120 mins parking.

Food: 7/10
Cost: 7:10
Service: 8/10

We ordered the porridge and the benedict - the dishes are tasty and well-presented. I often like ordering porridge or granola for brunch, as these are 'ordinary' dishes that cafes need to put some zest into to justify the price. The café was not particularly busy when we visited (around noon on a Sunday) so there was little wait time for food. Staff were attentive at both taking our order, and also checking up on us / refilling our water. My only comment on service would be that the person who we paid at the counter at the end wasn't particularly friendly - e.g. he didn't ask whether we liked our meal, just took our money. However we would visit again.

My first time eating here today and it was so delicious! I had the karaage chicken souffle pancakes and oh my god, so yum. Huge serving and I unashamedly finished every last bite. My mum had the Turkish eggs and said they were really good too 😊 the only downside was at 2:59pm when a member of staff came out and reminded us they close at 3 (totally fine of course), he took my finished plate and then also grabbed mum's even though she had clearly not finished! She was so surprised she didn't have the chance to say anything.. I mean, there was still food on the plate and her knife and fork weren't in the 'finished' position. She was then too embarrassed to say anything, awkward! Anyway very good food, just hold onto your plate at closing time 😉

Nice decoration inside the actual cafe, with a display of lights hanging down at the front. The inside is a little crowded and not so cozy, but the staff are pleasant and friendly. They have an open kitchen so you can see food being prepared fresh. The breakfast salad was nice and tasty and light at first. The flavors are good but they tend to become to rich after eating about half of the bowl, would recommend using more fresh vegetables to add crunch and texture.

Have been here twice recently, really enjoyed it both times. Coffee is nice, service is nice and attentive, food is good. I had the tofu bao buns both times and they were pretty good. Only issue is that it took a while despite not being super busy both times for food. Coffee is pretty quick tho. :) 4.5/5 but it won't let me do that lol

Interesting reviews! First time at Greenwood’s Cafe & the service was very friendly & welcoming. Coffee strong & well made. The outdoor area is great as you’re sheltered from the elements but get a great view of the business outside.
I tried the Japanese pancakes - haven’t had the authentic ones to compare, but these were tasty & light. Well balanced dish with the pears, mascarpone & crunch of the praline.
Will be back

When we arrived they told us there is a 30min wait for food which is fine. We sat down and started to order and the attendant again told us there is a long wait are we sure we want to wait ? Kind of turn off by this. And again when we walked in he was busy talking to other staff and ignoring us.w e had to go up and get menu ourselves. The food was average and the souffle pancake is nowhere close to the ones we get in Japan. It's not authentic Japanese pancake. But the sweet pancake flavours were nice but the savoury ones r dry. Poached eggs were overcooked. Coffee is nice though !

My GF lives in an apartment above the shops in Epsom. We've only just started sampling the stream of Cafe's on Saturday mornings. Furthest down the line and situated right next door to the pretentious One Tree Grill is Greenwood's Cafe, a cozy little joint perfect for a drizzly weekend brunch.

Quite the professionally run outfit, nods of appreciation, smiles and "good morning's" from just about every staff member as we walked in the door, a warm welcoming. We were quickly seated and seen to for drinks and food.

When feeling a little under the weather from the night before, I'm an absolute sucker for an iced chocolate, it's my go-to. For us non-coffee drinkers, you can tell a lot from a cafe by their Iced Chocolate ...

Some, like The Block in Blockhouse Bay, serve you an almighty thick iced chocolate in a large tall glass, almost a thick-shake, bliss for $8. Others like Crave in Morningside, or Fraser's in Mt. Eden will offer you the simple chocolate drinking powder with milk and a couple of ice cubes, $5 - $7, sure, it hits the spot, but you're just left wanting more. Greenwood's is the same, a simple, no fuss iced chocolate in a standard glass, $5. No man wants to finish his iced chocolate in 3 slurps. I say, up the price by a couple of dollars, serve in a taller glass and give it some real mojo, put your personality in it!

For food it was the Duck Bao's. I LOVE a menu that gives you the choice to eat duck for breakfast. These had all the right flavours going for them but unfortunately the magic was drowned in kewpie mayonnaise, just needed to lighten up on the saucing a little.

I was having trouble deciding between 2 dishes so I asked our waiter which one he'd order, the Japanese Souffle Savory Pancakes came out the winner, these are served with pulled pork and an Asian slaw. The Souffle Pancakes need to be with something sweet (they do have the sweet option on the menu), these do not suit pulled pork or the slaw. While eating the dish, I couldn't help but get the feeling I was eating leftovers from someone's fridge they'd thrown together haphazardly. This dish needs to be taken back to the kitchen and re-thunk.

I will no doubt be back again to Greenwood's, it's good enough that I want to sample more, but I just can't help but think it could be soooo much better with a bit of tweaking.

Came here for brunch as we drove past from an expo. This place isn’t really big, but sitting outside on a sunny day was pretty nice. The service wasn’t lacking and they’re attentive.

We got the lamb cutlet and Japanese soufflé cake. I was surprised they have soufflé cake on the menu as well because not many cafes have it.
Lamb - the lamb cutlet, covered in crumbs, was nicely fried and tender. Even though the cutlets were small and only served 2, the taste was pretty good. The cream cheese and eggplants (eggplants need more flavor because it was quite bland) did add some creamy texture. But what lifted the taste was the sweet and sour flavor from the balsamic vinegar and the beetroots. I suggest using a little less of the cream and salt.
Soufflé cake - I was quite excited for this when it came. I think the soufflé cake was oven-baked, and if so, it was over baked and just had the texture of a sponge cake, which was disappointing even though it’s got some nice flavor. If it weren’t for the sweet flavor from the pulled pork and salad which made the dish pretty tasty, this dish would’ve only looked nice.

The price came to $40 which isn’t that expensive. I just wished I had 1 more lamb as the 2 cutlets were pretty small for $22.

Taste - 7/10
Size - 7/10
Price - 7/10
Service - 8/10
Ambience - 7/10

We had the Japanese Souffle pancakes with pork and the crumbed lamb cutlets. The food was divine and the service was good. Can't wait to go back to try more of their menu!

Great and stylish cafe. One of our local places we love to eat or have a quick coffee. Easy parking and def try the Japanese Pancakes and the eggs on toast.

Sorry but this place was just waste of my money. Order cabinet food, some kind of chicken sandwhich?? . Anyways the cabinet was not labelled what was what nor no prices shown? Came to pay and was way over priced for one toasted sandwhich that could atleast had a bit relish or whatsoever on side. Top it off not many beverages ???? Had to ask and all had was those 2 litre juices, orange or crandberry where they just pour into a glass??? Plus no sugar on tables ???? Was given in takeaway cups ??? For real how stingy can one cafe be??? Was strange. Sandwhich was bland. Wouldnt go back. Wish i had just stopped at the cafe accross from it. Looked far more busier snd their food in cabinet us labelled and priced well!

Went there for an early lunch. The decor is nice and they have an interesting menu with lots of great choices plus a cabinet with yummy looking sandwiches, salads and cakes. I ordered the avocado garden which was really tasty and well presented. My husband ordered the savoury souffle pancakes which he rated 10/10. Coffees were good, strong and made quickly. Staff were polite and attentive. I onl rated them down from a 5 because there were quite a few flies inside and our food did seem to take quite a while to be made. We will go back definitely.

Newly opened cafe and eatery amongst the increasing amount of Cafes on this part of Manukau Road.
The layout of the eatery and dining area is tidy and open. The menu is simple and straightforward. Prices are your typical cafe menu prices.

What sets Greenwoods Cafe & Eatery apart from the other Cafes in this area is their signature Japanese soufflé pancakes.
The pancakes are a couple of soft, fluffy and bouncy clouds. The pancakes are definitely worth a try.

Lots of flys on the food next to the counter so they need to cover the food exposed, that put me off getting a pastry and there is no internet, who doesn’t have internet these days.

Arriving right on lunch time we were looking forward to trying out this newish cafe to the area. As we walked in we noticed nearly all the tables were taken but with no food in front of them. We were left waiting at the counter wondering if we had to find our own seats or wait to be greeted. We found it faster to do it alone. The menu had some great options and I had my eyes set on the Avocado Garden until we were told that the kitchen was slammed with one of their chefs away and there would be a 40min wait. As we were in a rush we just ordered a coffee and a Chia pudding with mixed fruit. There wasn’t a huge selection of cabinet food but enough for those needing a quick bite. The pudding was good, the chia seed mixture was very thick though – more than what I was used to and I didn’t manage to finish the whole thing due to the texture. Although the service was slow, the staff themselves (when we got attention) were friendly and polite. This café has good potential, we just happened to visit on the wrong day! We haven’t ruled it out though as we’d like to try some of their menu options, hopefully with a little more luck next time.

Environment is comfy, staff is friendly, waiting time is around 15-20 mins (maybe is due to full house during weekend breakfast time) food is ok but bit overprice

I would go back to this cafe again simply to have the coffee. It was beautiful! The food was good too with a nice range. The cakes and coffee however are definitely this cafe’s strength.

Came across this cafe while looking for somewhere to eat this morning and I'm so glad we stopped here! I ordered the Turkish Breakfast, which I found really interesting as I had never had poached eggs on Greek yoghurt with olive oil, salad and Turkish bread before. But it was so delicious! It tasted healthy and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My partner ordered the Argentinian dish which tasted great too. Coffees were strong, not sure if they were double shot but they came out fast.

The lady that served us was really friendly, knew what she was doing but not over the top. The only thing that stopped me giving a 5 is that there were lots of flies hanging around inside near where we were eating.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The range of coffees are never disappointing with the food looking and tasting incredible. Would definitely recommend the sweet Japanese souffle pancakes. Perfect place for your regular coffee and brunch.
