Did a Cupcakes Tasting challenge in our company's amazing race this year. I had pre-ordered different cupcake flavours, and opted to make all the icing blue (for extra fee). My team couldn’t stop talking about the cupcakes after the challenge – it was hilarious how challenging it was for them to guess the flavours. Some even thought there was a reverse-psychology experiment going on, whereby they answered that one box contained Blueberry cupcakes (blue icing by default), because I was trying to trick them into thinking it was a different flavour. Many said they were great cupcakes, regardless of flavours: Base was not dry at all, icing was not too sweet, and there were heaps of options. There were options for people with strict dietary requirements and allergies too, and found out that the bakery is nut-free. All staff were so helpful, from email communications to in-person advice. Thanks a lot for helping make our amazing race even more amazing!

Usually cupcakes just look pretty with thick tasteless icing. BUT Petal Cupcakes icing is the icing of my cupcake. The icing taste just right, not overpowering , yet simple& pretty. The cupcake iself is moist & flavoursome. Making great gift for friends. My fav flavour is always Black Dorris Plum. Great service . The shop itself is clean& neat I have been coming here for years

Petal Cupcakes in Newmarket have a great range of colourful and different flavoured cupcakes. They are very appealing to the eyes and lovely as a gift 🎁 in a nice box. You can buy in a 4, 6 or 12 pack and save a bit, otherwise it's like $5 each. They also come in mini size 12 packs in one flavour only

Absolutely adorable young cashier with her soft polite and friendly greetings. The cupcakes are packaged in adorable little takeaway boxes. They are extreeeeeeeemely moist and the frosting is pretty good. $5.5 for one. Good for the occasional snack, but they are just cupcakes, so they don’t taste too amazing.

We had our cupcakes from this place for our wedding as gifts for our guests. The service provided was excellent. Price is good also, and last but not least the flavour of the cupcakes was very very good. I have tried the strawberry and the blueberry one. The strawberry reminds me of the strawberry pocky flavour which is my favourite. The blueberry is also very unique. The right amount of sweetness and also we were allow to pick our printed design on top. Very happy with this choice.

Sweet and delicious surprise received from Petals!! An overseas family member organized a gift from Petals. I received 12 assorted cupcakes. Each cupcake had different flavor frosting and the cupcakes were moist. It was well packed, message card included and delivery safely (all cupcakes are intact). I tried their cupcake for the first time and will head to their Newmarket store for more when lockdown levels are eased. An excellent gift when you don’t know what to buy for your loved ones.

Whilst meandering down Teed Street in Newmarket, I fortuitously discovered Petal Cupcakes! I had previously been fortunate enough to get to sample one of their mini cupcakes at work from a surprise congratulatory gift box for a co-worker. I felt like a little child gazing in awe and amazement at the display cabinet of beautiful cupcakes of varying colours and flavours. Finally, I arduously managed to chose a selection of flavours including salted caramel, black Doris plum, vanilla bean and espresso cupcake to take away in a gorgeous Petals carry box. The cupcakes are large, moist and perfectly decorated and flavoured with a wide range to choose from and you can order online too! Highly recommended!

Tried the vegan cupcake from here after reading the raving reviews. I really loved the cupcake, it was really tasty and super soft and moist. The frosting was delicious and wasn't too sweet that you can't finish the whole thing (have had many like experiences like that). The one thing that I found was a minus point was that the frosting was a bit dense, would have liked it more if it was bit more fluffy.

A lovely tiny cupcake shop in new market - been here few times and tried several different cupcakes and all were amazing! the icing blends really well and smooth and yummy ; they didnt even harden when you leave it overnight! The red velvet with cream cheese icing is a must try 👌🏻

My workplace use these guys quite a lot. I've bought many-a-cupcake here for myself as well as gifts for the very few people I actually give a sh*t about. I can honestly say their buttercream icing is by far the best I've had, they've got it down to an art. I find myself scraping most of the icing off other cupcakes, not with Petals though....it's super light & fluffy & beautifully presented. The service is amazing, the girl that works the counter is always friendly & incredibly efficient at her job.

I know $5 a cupcake sounds absolutely ridic, but the aesthetics and taste of the cupcakes is also ridic so the occasional treat is so worth it!! The cupcakes were quite nice, a lil dry to my liking and a lil pricey but they were good. Good that they had a few samples available which helped me with the choices. The ones in the pics are.. Lemon, Salted Caramel, chocolate Hazelnut and Red Valvet. Salted caramel could've been better but the other 3 were nice.

Honestly I used to love this place and go a lot - however I don’t know if they’ve changed the recipe or what but they’ve gotten a LOT sweeter and heavy. The icing also feels more ‘cheap’ now compared to how it used to. However they have introduced vegan options which is really good and those taste pretty good.

I have always had a good experience when popping in for a treat over the years. The cupcakes are really tasty - the cake is not too sweet and there is that big swirl of yummy icing on the top. Have bought a top cake before when they used to be $35 and loved it. Not something you can really have on the regular as $5 a pop for a cupcake and $40 for the top cake is a little bit pricey. But all in all definitely recommend👍🏽

Finger licking goood cupcakes 😍😍 finally tried petal cupcakes after hearing about this place for a few years. I got the tropical mango one and it was the best thing ever! So much flavour in the icing, and the cupcake itself was super soft. They also sell gluten free and vegan cupcakes, but unfortunately there wasn't a huge range of flavours to choose from those sections. Can't wait to try out more flavours from here!! P.s wish the size of the cupcakes were a bit bigger 🙊

Bought this as a gift. Even though it was a little pricey, the taste of each cupcake is delicious (the main flavor comes from the icings they use). I chose Vanilla, Lavender and Honey, Ripe Strawberry, and Red Velvet. The red velvet tasted pretty good and stood out amongst the 4. The cupcakes were presented very delicately. Each had a balance of sweetness and their own distinct taste which doesn't make you sick after eating a few. Would definitely recommend. This box of 4 costed $20. Quality - 8/10 Taste - 8/10 Size - 6/10 Price - 5/10

One of my favourite cupcake places of all time. The cupcakes are always piped beautifully in the classic rose style. There are many icing flavours to choose from. I have friends who think the icing is a bit too sweet but I find it perfect. The staff is always friendly and at $5 a cupcake it’s not too unreasonable. If you buy more it gets cheaper.

Some of the best cupcakes in town. It's a nice stylish takeaway with your usual service standard. The cupcakes are always consistent with a good range of flavours, even up until closing time. These are always a crowd pleaser, I never get anything less than a 6 pack here. They're just a tad on the pricey side but in saying that, they haven't put their prices up with the butter boom so that's great.

My friend and i visit most weeks and order a cupcake or 2 each. It is worth the drive from Penrose to New Market. Would love if they sold mini cupcakes individually though- there pricing is a little funny as most places will have a cheaper price for more cupcakes but petal still charge the same amount per cupcake whether you’re buying 1 or 12 which isn’t a good thing for those that want more than 1

Wow! Tastes and look heavenly delicious! Located at a nice and chic outlet in Newmarket and friendly staff. Lots of flavors to choose from. They sell regular and mini cupcakes. The regular cupcake is quite a big size. It tastes divine and moist but the icing is a bit sweet for my liking. But they are lovely.... so I would still come back!

Absolutely delicious. The cake texture is really nice and soft and not powdery or soggy and it doesn't make your tongue feel funny and the flavour is subtly sweet yet so rich. The icing is also really rich and sometimes it gets a little too overly sweet but if you eat it together with the cake then it's perfect. The icing texture is also perfect. My favourite is the coffee flavour. The presentation - icing, box and all - is also really well done. It's a tad expensive but I would recommend trying it at least once, and perhaps again occasionally as a little treat.

Such delicious cupcakes, that always taste moist and fresh. I especially love how the gluten free cupcakes have the same taste as the normal cupcakes, and aren't dry like some gluten free alternatives. All the flavours are amazing, but I'd say the salted caramel is a must when visiting Petal!

I would definitely recommend all Cupcake Lovers to try this place, They sell a nice combination of flavors and their design and frosting makes them stand out in Auckland. I don't have a sweet tooth so I found the frosting very sweet but the good side was the flavors were amazing, If I ignore the sweetness I have to admit their frosting is rich and nicely blended. My cake was very yumm, I tried the Tropical Mango cupcake which had a nice subtle banana flavored cake and Mango-Orange frosting on top.

Seriously u have to try 1pc of cupcake first before try to buy a pack of cupcakes. They have glutten free cupcake. The cupcake itself very delicous, we had the banana flavoured cuocake with different type of frostings (vanilla bean, lavendar honey, choc raspberry, and salted caramel). However, we ended eat one cupcake with small amount of frosting. Because its to sweet for us, for our child. And we save the other cupcakes for the next morning, the cupcake itself still good, not fudgy or wateve.

I adore the cupcakes at Petal Boutique! Such a simple yet creative idea. The packaging is so special, with all cupcakes given to you in a little box which when you open up, resembles a petal shape. There are lots of different flavours to choose from, a few of my favourites are the balsamic strawberry, mango and salted caramel. The base of the cupcake is always moist and kept simple (vanilla or chocolate base) and the flavour comes from the icing on top which is delicious. They also do top cakes which are so gorgeous and perfect as a birthday cake or for special occasions. Definitely a must try when you are in the area, for a little treat.

For $5 a cupcake you'd expect it to be good, and it is. The cake is moist and the icing is creamy, but the cupcake is too subtle in flavour. I brought the red velvet cupcake and it lacked the traditional cream cheese flavour you expect from a good red velvet cake.

Have ordered them as gifts to be delivered a few times and always had great service and no problems. They are always moist and fluffy with smooth creamy icing. Every time I've tried to have petal (4 or 5 times) they are always closed well before their closing time, because they sell out of cupcakes. Very frustrating because new market is far to travel to and parking isn't easy. They should either make more cupcakes or be realistic and set hours that match to the supply and demand of their cupcakes!

I can't quite make up my mind with Petal. I have tried various flavors and so far the hit-&-miss ratio has been 50/50. This is due to the cupcake icing being too sweet or the flavor is a bit too artificial/strong. Today my sister tried the Raspberry cupcake which was surprisingly delicious! Heard all sorts of good stuff about this place. Finally got a chance to visit this little store. I went for the 4 cupcakes option. Think it was like $18(?). Bit pricey for cupcakes but they were honestly so good! 💯 The cake itself was SO soft and moist(...). The icing on top was so nice. Although it did get a bit too sweet after a few bites. So kinda glad I got 4 instead of 6. And they are still nice and soft a few days after too -bonus! Love this place. Would definitely come back to treat myself or for an occasion 😋

Really cute cupcakes here! Depending on what floats your boat they most likely will have a cupcake flavour that will satisfy your sweet tooth ☺️ I've had many cupcakes from Petal, from the shop itself or at parties where Petal has catered cupcakes too and there's always good remarks about the cupcakes! Today I had the Ginger Kiss and Mango Tango cupcake. I much prefer the fruitier flavours on offer. The icing is beautifully creamy and full of flavour and goes very well with the actual cup cake. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I'll be very glad to see Petal cupcakes at the next event or if I want a cupcake, I know where to go!!

This place is very cute and pretty. I have tried multiple flavours in the past and have enjoyed them all. I do agree others who think $5 is a bit too steep for one cup cake. Little fact, Starbucks at 277 also sell these cup cakes so definitely grab one with a cup of coffee!

I love this place! Everything about it is right up my alley, cute and pretty and just very very nice aesthetically, both shop and cupcakes. I tried the red velvet cupcake and I thought it tasted amazing! It is a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion :)

Really nice cupcakes, but not good service. Ordered cupcakes for some one and when they were delivered there was no message/persons name on the box? Her company didn't even know who to give them too. Then called Petal back to ask why wasn't the message (which had meaning) or name put on the box to which they replied he would look into it but he has quite a lot of customers in the shop at the moment.....em ok ?

I have heard of Petal Cupcakes' good reviews that I decided to give their cupcakes a try. Having tried their Tropical Mango cupcakes, I say their cupcakes are so good one would like to come back for more. A bit pricey for one cupcake but worth the occasional splurge for a yummy treat.

Simple business idea - making good cupcakes with amazing buttercream icing. The cupcake is moist and not too sweet. The frostings come in lots of flavours with my favourite being strawberry and salted caramel. Still have to work my way through it. Mango not my fave eventhough I love the fruit. They have a loyalty / member system... So sign up to it and get a free cupcake and collect points on every purchase! (Don't quote me though as I Have yet to collect:)) Downside is the price. $5 a cupcake and even though you think buying more will give you a discount, it doesn't. So getting one as a treat doesn't seem to bad. Plus the prettiness of the cupcake and packaging makes it a good present to sweeten someone's day :)

The first time I heard of Petal, was through M, my foodie accomplice. I think it must have been a raspberry one. The pale pink rose shaped icing was almost too pretty to bit into. And so sweet! Normally I'm not a cupcakes person. I don't really like too much icing, either. But Petal cupcakes are moist, springy, perfectly sized.

Product presentation is fantastic, you really feel compelled to buy because of the appearance. The cake itself is smooth and tastes great. Not a big fan of the icing which is very sugary to my taste and are all very similar. The flavour differences seem to be very artificial.

Definitely my favourite place for cupcakes in Auckland! Petals cupcakes have an amazingly soft texture that is really unique and I haven't found anything similar elsewhere. There is a huge range of delicious flavours and they are just so darn pretty. I love the red velvet, plum, salted caramel, and so many more. Get in early though as popular flavours tend to sell out as the day goes on. The staff are always cheery and wait patiently as you spend ages trying to decide which flavour to get (because believe me, it's a tough decision). They also do cake versions of their cupcakes, which I've always wanted to try but haven't had the opportunity, they look amazing as well!

The cupcakes here are mostly delicious. I would especially recommend the Strawberry and Balsamic, Doris Plum and Tropical Mango. The cake is always moist and the icing is always smooth and delicious. Their salted caramel cupcakes could be better- it's mostly just sickly sweet and doesn't have enough of the 'salted' aspect going on. I'm not rating this place over 4 because of 2 reasons- 1. I feel like the cupcakes are way overpriced and have gone up even more recently and 2. Only 2 out of all the staff I've come across there provide good customer service. The others seem to not actually want to help in anyway and I feel like I'm disturbing them from whatever it is that they're so busy doing when I'm in there, which is poor form really.

Always perfectly baked cupcakes- and it doesn't matter what flavour you get because they'll always be amazing. They do a pack deal if you buy a few I believe so it makes it worth your while to stock up. I managed to leave 2 of these cupcakes on my kitchen table and they smelled so delicious my dog climbed up on to the table and ate them both. So that sucked because I missed out on the deliciousness. Their icing is perfect and isn't overpowering at all so 5/5 from me!! 💗

Petal cupcakes has always been a favourite cupcake store as they offer different flavours and it looks amazing too. I've tried way too many cupcakes and they're all amazing. Only downside is the fact that each cupcake costs $5 which is quite expensive for anyone whos on a student budget. Overall, would come here occasionally if the wallet allows it.

Amazing cupcakes! My ultimate favourite is the red velvet but they are all amazing. A few times I've popped into the store around 3 and they'd sold out entirely or almost all except a few left so it pays to get in early so you can choose your flavours. The only thing that stopped me giving the place a 5 is that the icing is quite sweet. It looks amazing and tastes amazing but you can feel a bit sickly after eating the whole thing so I tend to swipe off half the icing in the beginning which works out being much more satisfying for me.

Looking for a sweet treat? Petal offer a wide range of different flavored cupcakes. While a little on the sweet side, I love the fact that they have such a wide ranges of choices, although my current favorite is their hawkes bay peach cupcake. Well worth a visit.

These cupcakes are great. The size of the cupcakes are perfect and there's always a generous helping of icing. There are many flavours that I have enjoyed and others not so much. While $5 is quite pricy when compared to other gourmet treats these are quite good value. My main concern is that the cake part of the cupcake needs to hold itself together better. All up they are good value and have a flavour for everyone.

This basically is a piece of art! I heard good things about this place and being one of the best cupcake places in Auckland. The cake itself is moist and fluffy. If you know how to make a cupcake you will know it's actually not easy to have those balance out. Loved it, gotta try other flavours next time.

I'm not a huge fan. I love the different flavours available but by the afternoon most of the good flavours have gone. The sponge is great, it's soft and moist but it lacks flavour. It just tastes like a boring sponge cake. The icing is cute, generically decorated but packed full of sugar with a grainy texture. There isn't really a balance between the cupcake as one half is bland and the other is way too sweet, together it works for the first 1-2 bites but the sweetness just overpowers everything. A friend introduced us to this cupcake store when we first arrived in Auckland, and told us 'you need to try these cupcakes, they'll be the best cupcakes you've had'. We managed to pop in just before closing so they were down to limited options. I'm a big sweet tooth and always pick sweet over savoury, Petal Cupcakes had a very creamy delicate icing and a good base. However the best cupcakes I've ever had? Unfortunately not. Great cupcakes, but not memorable enough to be rushing back - at least for me. Not to say they aren't amazing cupcakes, but I think a perfect cupcake comes down to personal tastes, texture of the cupcake, amount of icing and sweetness.

Delicious frosted icing on a super moist cake! That is what petal always delivers with there cupcakes. This place is tiny, but even if they had seating you wouldn't need much time there to gobble up one of these sweet treats. They have a great assortment of flavours - and GF options available too. My favourite so far is the balsamic strawberry! They even customise cupcakes to cater for a special occasion or events - as we saw at Zomatos 7th birthday at Revelry they looked awesome. Also love how they come in a cute takeaway box - perfect for gifts

Petal Cupcakes are by far my favourite cupcake store in Auckland. They have a tiny store on Teed Street with a cabinet full of beautifully deocated cupcakes. I have been in their store several times when the 3pm sugar fix is needed. The cupcakes are really moist, full of flavour and very addictive. I recently got a Petal Cupcake for my birthday and it was AMAZING. It was red velvet flavour and topped with chocolate and vanilla buttercream. PERFECT!

There have been many many claims that Petal cupcakes are the best cupcakes around town, which spiked my curiosity and led me to finally buying one after uni one day. Located in a tiny store on Teed Street, I walked into this cute little store to find a cabinet of beautifully decorated cupcakes staring right back at me. The amount of choices were quite overwhelming as they had the classics such as chocolate, red velvet, strawberry, and unique flavours such as lavender and honey, black doris plum, jelly tip, JUST SO MANY! it all looked too good :P I finally decided on two gluten free ones, one salted caramel and the other the jelly tip one. I was amazed to find that the flavours really lived up to their name, especially the jelly tip ( I preferred this among the two), however I still found the icing way too sweet for my liking but that may be my personal preference. The cupcakes themselves were beautiful tho and extremely moist mmm! I had returned a week later and purchased the lavender and honey cupcake. THIS was definitely my favourite, it was the perfect balance of sweetness and had a gorgeous hint of lavender in the aftertaste YUM! Petal cupcakes have managed to convert me into a cupcake lover :) Overall, highly reccomend for a little treat to satisfy your sweet tooth, although $5 is quite dear for one tiny cupcake; it's good to endulge a little in life :) Reccomended flavour: Lavender and honey!!

BEST CUPCAKES EVER. I was never really a big fan of cupcakes until I tried petal. I have been here 4 time and i need to go back! My favorites are red velvet and balsamic strawberry. The only problem is if you go after 3pm most days majority will be sold out. So you need to get in quick! They are so moist and the icing is amazing. I am never disappointed with petal

I have always wanted to try their cupcake since it went viral all over Facebook and Instagram so I finally tried it. I have the red velvet cupcake which was tasty but I think the icing can be better for the price I paid. I thought the icing wasn't smooth and a bit too sweet. Overall the cupcake had good soft texture and I love the box packaging.

THE BEST cupcakes your lips will ever touch in Auckland (have not yet explored the cupcake range around our beautiful country yet). If you're a newbie to PC, I would recommend the peach flavour as an introduction to the delicate and delicious PC world. The cupcakes taste exactly as the names shown in the glass window displays. Petal Cupcakes don't mess around, they are the real deal. It's a shame they don't have a branch in Ponsonby anymore - nevertheless, it is worth the trip into Auckland CBD to pick up a box...or two.

My favourite place for cupcakes! I recently ordered mini cupcakes for my birthday which were beautifully done and tasted just as good as they looked. The guy working there I think his name was Clinton or quinton he was absolutely helpful. We changed our minds about having them in one box we wanted them in separate little boxes and there was no fuss at all! He was very kind and lovely. I recommend this place to anyone who wants cupcakes for an up coming event or someone who just wants a sweet treat

If you have a sweet tooth like me, then I'm sure you would have tried Petal Cupcakes in New Market. An indulgent and perfectly crafted cupcake, Petal never disappoints! Decorated with bright and colourful frosting, it's hard to just chose one (that's why I always go buy at least half a dozen different flavours to "share" with my friends). My favourite flavours include the salted caramel, which is gluten free, golden syrup and the passionfruit which is slightly tart but with no seeds! The rounded takeaway box is also very adorable and a perfect gift/item to bring to a baby shower or birthday.

Sad to say one of my favorite cupcake shops in Auckland turned out to fraudulently charge my Credit Card without my knowledge. My bank had to cancel my card and forcefully retrieve the money. When confronted about it via phone, their employee Clinton said "what do you want me to do about it". They charged my credit card twice (once was approved for a delivery order - second was done at a later time without any knowledge of it being done). The owner Laurel took Clinton's lying story and completed sugar coated the situation and brushed me off once a complaint was made (after 3 emails and 4 phone calls). The support I have received by spreading this to friends, family and co-workers is amazing, word of mouth is a powerful tool. Sad to say that our family bought cakes and cupcakes off Petal every year for everyone of our birthdays, now we will take our service elsewhere. Such rude and obnoxious staff and owner. Well done.

Went out of our way to buy some cupcakes due to mentioning half price cupcakes on their FB page, but then the store didn't honor the price, I questioned this on their facebook page and was ignored. For the price of the cupcakes and calling them specialty cupcakes I expected a lot better, there is no decoration, no fillings, just very standard cupcakes a home baker could make. Vanilla was very eggy tasting, red velvet bland. Very disappointed and won't be back.
