Great atmosphere, love the food. We had nachos and burgers and we loved it. Friendly staff, highly recommended

Efficient service, typical pub food and vibe. We started with some cheesy garlic bread. It was a good size but could’ve been a bit more garlicky. For mains we got egg and steak which came with onion rings and chips. Steak was cooked rare. We also tried the southern fried chicken burger which came with chips. Nice big portion sizes. They have a lot of tap beers to choose from. Nice $10 cocktails. Waitresses were efficient at offering more drinks and getting any extras that we asked for.

Cozy environment for after work and weekends drinks. Located in the centre of Newmarket. Very convenient.

I haven't had any food over here but had few beers. Mainly, i was there to attend NZ irish fest. I enjoyed the live music played by McSweeney Brothers!. Plus, i also participated in irish dance. It was so lively and enjoyable. The ambience of the place is so cool and staffs were so amazing and friendly.

Great atmosphere for a couple of quiet drinks or so and some pool. Easy place to wind down after long day and great customer service, plus cheap booze hehehe
G Tan (Gesky)
Classic steak & chips, generous serving, very nice meal

Came here with a few friends after a Saturday afternoon out in the Domain. Food was good and staff were friendly. Would definitely come back.

Great night here. Fantastic service for a pub. There was a band playing, really enjoyed them and their playlist. We ordered a dish each plus a couple of sides. Food hit the spot, DELICIOUS! The portions are LARGE....beware of the food sweats. Thank you!

I visited there after our Zumba MC. It's the great bar as fantastic warm atmosphere. We enjoyed beautiful food and drinks. Also the staff are so friendly!! I really enjoyed the night with my friends because of their lovely hospitality! Highly recommend the place for your party, dating or whatever!!

Been meaning to write this for a while...my Mum has her 60th birthday here in May. We thoroughly enjoyed the venue, the food was great, the drinks great, the staff really friendly and helpful and all for a good price. Many thanks for a great occasion and we will most likely be back!!

This place is incredible. We recently held our engagement party here and the staff were nothing but amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to host a party, the entire team will really make you feel like you're looked after. We will definitely be hosting another event with them if the opportunity arises. Thanks again team for making our engagement party awesome!!

I was impressed with the staff here, as they let me in early when I needed somewhere to sit and write up some meeting notes. I arrived as they were getting ready, about 20 minutes before there opening time. But they happily let me in and gave me a glass of water. I came back later and had lunch here with a friend. Food was pretty good. Took a fair while to deliver the meals after we ordered them, and even though we were at an inside table, they had doors to the outdoor seating area open, and the smell of smokers drifted through, which was a little unpleasant. Overall good service though.

Doolan Brothers has an amazing ambience. The customer experience was fantastic. We ordered "Rump Steak, Egg & Chips with Onion Rings & Peppercorn Sauce" and "Scotch Fillet with Bacon and Spring Onion Mash and Peppercorn Sauce" and both were really nice!!

Nice local bar, great for a couple of pints. Service is a tad slow at times. However it is a local bar type ambience. Can’t remember what the food taste like but we finished it so must be good.

Service: 4/5
Environment: 3/5
Food and drinks: 3.5/5
Presentation: 3/5
Price per person: $20-$50

Lovely place, good food and well priced. Love the fireplaces, so cozy in winter. Heaps of space and nice decor. Coffee by the fire = heaven!

Been here a few times
Nice rooms and fit out
Service has been a bit up and down
The roast option they used to have was great
A traditional beef lamb or pork with all the trimmings
Very good
But that seems to have disappeared from the menu
Choices remaining the last time we went were disappointing

Went in for an easy meal before going to an event. Seated promptly and they were great on the drinks orders. However it was 45 minutes from ordering our meal to when it arrived. My meal was awesome lamb shanks but 2 of the others weren't my friends prawns were cold and my other friends nachos were burnt. I was told the burger was amazing, the salad with the calamari was awesome. 1 of meals didn't arrive with the others and we were told something had gone wrong and they were remaking it. When it arrived though he said it was really tasty, beef pie. They gave him a free beer for the inconvenience. It was just a bit of a let down. Side note the league came on and it was so loud we couldn't hear each other.

Went there for bingo. They don't seem to do well with large crowds. Burger was raw in the middle. The bartender was flustered by the people ordering before me.
Gareth Neilson
Good selection of beers, served in chilled glasses. Friendly service. Great on the deck for people watching. Beers are a bit expensive but seems to be the case in most of the city bars currently.

Stopped by after work for a drink and a bite. They had a fairly nice selection of beers and food. I went with the lamb rump and it was nice. Cooked well and nice flavour. There was also a fair amount of lamb on it. It was a bit on the pricey side ($30) but was quite tasty.

They did have table service but ended up ordering at the bar.

We went there for our team outing after our Bowling event at Ten Pin bowling. With drought beer, JD and cola and some soft drinks, we order their chicken burger, garlic prawns and tandoori chicken pizza to fulfill our hunger. Chicken burger is absolute treat with fries on the side. Garlic prawns were in delicious garlic cheese sauce and were perfectly cooked. Absolutely loved it. Pizza was although not outstanding. I have tasted better tandoori chicken pizza than this, but it can be ignored considering their "sporty-friday- night" ambiance.

Staff is friendly and food is great. One hundred percent recommended.

The Moroccan lamb salad is the best I've had, I keep meaning to go back for lunch. I definitely recommend anyone coming here for a cheap lunch

We popped in one late afternoon after returning from Thames that day. The Bar staff/waiter was a lovely guy and had a very warm service which was a delight after been out of town for the day. I had a nice refreshing Mac's Summer Fling which was well put together.

We started off with the garlic bread loaded with cheese and bacon(it really was loaded and delicious). I ordered the Beef Yorkshire Jumbo Yorkshire Pudding, My Father and partner both ordered a scotch fillet with egg and chips. The staff were nice enough to provide mash instead of chips at my Fathers request and when the creamy mushroom sauce was forgotten the staff kindly rushed to bring it out and provided no charge for the sauce.

I would not order the Beef Yorkshire again but that is due to my own taste and I couldn't fault the dish, the steaks were both cooked to perfection and everyone left feeling extremely satisfied.

I would definitely head in again( this time for a steak). For a pub this establishment definitely deserved a 5/5, great service, food and ambiance.

Great Irish pub with good vibes and atmosphere. Came here for St Patrick's Day and there were Irish dancers, special shots, and good beer. Great atmosphere
Would definitely swing by for lunch one day! They also do quiz night and bitchin bingo.

Was in here on Saturday for the first time, was really impressed with the staff, they were very freindly and helpful. But what I was most impressed with was the menu, I mean it was a pub menu with the usual style od fare, but the amount of options available for gluten free were extensive most of the menu in fact! it is often something that is over looked and frustrating being that I am gluten intolerant. We had the calamari, chilli prawns, meat lovers pizza & curry. all were well presented and tasted very good. for a pub they do food & service very well. Thank you.

With the Entertainment Book voucher, this place is value for money. Service is great. Attentive, helpful, and friendly. My wife and I like the decor. Food is very tasty and came out quite fast.

I am now picking bones out of an egg (or whatever the saying is) for knocking 1 point off the rating. (1) The mirrors in the dining hall are still under the name Cock and Bull. Hmmmm.... How long they have changed the name?; (2) Some of the ceilings lightd are off and it makes some area quite dark (especially in the small corridor in the male toilet;

Anyway, overall this place is nice to have a drink. We will be back.

Enjoyed a great team lunch here today.
Serving staff were very attentive and we ordered very promptly.
Meals were a great size and very tasty
I had the chicken and mushroom pie. Was the best.
Will definitely be back

Went here for lunch with group from work we walked in and we're shown to a table at 1pm, and brought our drinks. Then placed our food order. At 1:40pm I went and asked for an update on our order. We were advised our meals were literally being plated by the waitress. At 1:50 we still hadn't been served. At 2pm we went to the counter and advised we had to get back to work only to be told but your orders are being plated. My comment was you told us that 10 minutes ago, that we couldn't wait. I also said we were leaving hungry and that if your kitchen is busy be honest and give customers updates on the wait rather than leave customers having to come and ask for service and sitting on one drink for an hour. With all the options around Newmarket I would think that you would be wanting to provide better service. This was unacceptable!

Have dined at Doolan Brothers Newmarket more times than I can remember. From grabbing a quick bite to eat for lunch from their weekday business lunch to full blown Christmas staff parties and everything in between. The food is gastro pub style with a menu broad enough to suit all palettes. The food is also of a consistently high standard, I have to the best of my recall had a dud meal. Had the Butter Chicken with Roti today which is an old favourite but will be back soon to sample the new menu. What really makes Doolans an experience is the staff. They are so charming and friendly. Just amazing. Today Sasha was on form and we got welcomed like long lost family.

Came here for dinner before heading off to a show. Nice friendly. Service was a bit slow waited for at least 40 min for our meals to come out, but staff are nice. The beef burger I had was delicious a bit stinge with the fries - for my plate - however was great. Everyone else enjoyed their meal.
Had a few irish beers and burger here. Amazing ambience, very good service. the burger was very very good. keen to try their lunch menus sometime.

I must have had about five glasses of water after the Doolan Burger and can still taste the salt bomb. My two colleagues felt just the same. Had to send my glass back as their was some random goop on the glass all baked on. I would have drunk the water at the bar but the water bottle was filthy at the bottom with random floaties everywhere

Eaten here several times. Typical pub grub. Nothing outstanding in the menu, average food at average prices. Background music is dated and sometimes annoying, but I presume it is their genre. It's nice and tidy with friendly servers - so all good for a pub 👍

Firstly, the hours posted listed 11:30 am opening time, and the main doors were not opened by the waitress until 12, a half an hour late. The only reason we got into the restaurant was because the waitress had to open a patio door to place menus outside, so we showed ourselves in. I orders the summer bach drink, and received kiwi breeze instead, which just tasted like sugar syrup and soda, so I won't be finishing the drink. Upon receiving our food, the fried mozzarella was cold, and the beef and noodle salad was disappointing. Most of the beef pieces were too tough to eat. I ordered the beef noodle salad because I've been so impressed with the quality of beef in New Zealand, but this did not taste like NZ beef. At all. Overall, poor food, poor drinks, even poorer service. Definitely will never be coming back to any Doolan Brothers location. Ever.

Again, went for a fish item as I was left with no other option cos of Halal meat.

Ordered fish taco! Was quite good, but lacked some zing. Wanted them to squeeze some lemon on it, but then I just kept quiet.
I could've had a better meal for $15 though elsewhere. But each has its own story to tell isn't it?

It's quite a busy place at night, especially for drinks. I see ppl standing out, nearby the street as it's sooo occupied.

Nice pub setting and very spacious inside. We went for a week day lunch. We ordered the garlic chilli prawns, calamari and a Caesar salad. Friendly staff but they got our Caesar salad wrong. Food tastes nice. Would go again.

This is another place with a typical Irish pub ambience. Lots of wooden chairs and tables.. Lots of beer, wine, ciders and whiskey to choose from and limited grub choices. We were waiting for the bus and thought we will quickly hop in for a quick drink. It is a huge place and can easily seat around 150-175 ppl I guess. The fireplace is quite attractive and give the place a very countryside kind of feel..

Me and my sisters came to the Doolan Brothers for dinner with low expectations and we came left a great experience with the biggest stomachs!!

When we first came in It was a bit awkward, we didn't really know where to stand or where to wait for a table and we decided to approach a staff member who awkwardly pointed to a table at the back. Thankful a new sever came to serve us and he was incredible! (I think his name was Patrick!) he was so lovely and told us the 3 courses for $40 deal, which we all went for and explained all the specials they had that day, as well as recommending certain entrees, mains and desserts he thought were the best (we also very much appreciated that he took a photo of the lamb special that day - which he ate for dinner - so we could see what It looked like and if we wanted it) before leaving us to decided on what to order.

For our entrees we ended up ordering: the garlic tiger prawns, the scallops wrapped in bacon and the crispy buffalo wing salad. All of them tasted incredible!! Our favourites were definitely the prawns and scallops which were the two recommended to us!!! The flavours were so intense, and they are not stingy on the garlic which as a family we appreciated.

For mains we ordered two of the lamb specials (the photo he showed us sold it to us on the spot) and the lamb rack from the restaurant menu. I have to say, the lamb special (which is what I got) blew me away!!! It tasted so good!! It has the right amount of everything (it might have been a bit too salty but it didn't make it enjoy it any less). And my sisters lamb rack was really good too!!

For dessert we ordered two sticky date puddings and one peanut butter Brownie! The peanut butter brownie was so good! If you love peanut butter and brownies it's definitely the dessert for you!! The sticky date pudding was ok, it had great flavours but it was a tad bit dry unfortunately BUT! The salted caramel sauce made up for it!!

Overall we were so happy with the service and the food! It's a nice relaxing place to go to and we will definitely be coming back!!!

Went here for Friday lunch last week with colleagues- disappointing :-( $14.95 for lunch at a pub, choices werent the best. Ordered the chicken burger: blue cheese slaw was really overpowering. Chicken was under seasoned. Service was slack- I had to ask for serviettes to be brought to the table, and had to go looking for some cutlery myself. It wasnt that busy!!! Wont be going back for food.

The atmosphere at Doolan Brothers is super laid back. We came coincidentally on the night of a rugby game and sat in a little area outside with two tvs. Most of the people came about half an hour into our meal, which was when the game started and things started getting super noisy haha. We couldn't really talk over the amount of noise out where we were sitting but it wasn't too bad. Had we been prepared, this would definitely be a cool place to go for a game! We got into it as well and I literally have no clue how rugby works.

Food wise, two of us ordered steak for our mains and another friend ordered fish and chips. The meal was pretty decent actually! I ended up getting the panna cotta to finish which was the perfect thing to finish off the night. My steak was cooked to how I wanted it, the chips were fresh and we all enjoyed our meals. The fish and chips were apparently good as well! Service was friendly but slow at times, due to the amount of people in the restaurant. We will most likely be back!

If you are looking for a fine dining experience, STOP, this is not your place. This is an awesome bar for drinks and sports and have a feed while you celebrate your team's victories or cry it's loses. The management does a great job organising events and promotions and there's always something going on. Staff are ok, not super friendly but most people do the job and sometimes there's a very nice waiter/waitress.
I always come here with my friends before the Warriors games and the roast is delicious given the price of the promotion. It is a great place to celebrate a special occasion with friends or family or a large group.

You should definitely try it before a sport's event or going to the movies.
Rebecca MacDonald
We needed a place for a quick dinner before heading into the movies in Newmarket and this was the perfect choice! We both had the beef burger which came with fries. It was very generous in size and tasty!
Hannah Powell
The wings they use for people with vouchers aren't as good as the wings on their normal menu, which are pretty yum. I love this bar! Always good fun and great drinks. Bar of choice in Newmarket.

We decided to go along to Doolan Brothers for a work lunch on a Friday. They serve a mix of traditional Irish Fare accompanied by local New Zealand cuisine. They have a fantastic weekday working lunch special which is $14.95 and has a good variety of options to choose from.

I ordered the naked burrito which came with chipotle lime grilled chicken, lime buttered rice, black beans, tomatoes, celery, onions, cucumber, carrot and capsicum. Our meals arrived very fast but the quality wasn’t very high. I enjoyed my naked burrito but it definitely wasn’t outstanding. There was a lot of rice and not many vegetables so in the end I was eating just plain rice. My colleague ordered the Spicy buffalo chicken burger
which came with southern fried chicken, blue cheese slaw and steakhouse fries. The burger looked really plain and she said that her meal wasn't very flavoursome.
The décor is typical of an Irish pub and the service was friendly and helpful. I won’t be returning in a hurry but there $14.95 special is good value if you are looking for a cheap weekday lunch option in Newmarket.

Went there on St Patrick's day. The place was very busy but still waiters didn't forget about our table (which was pretty hard to notice) and we really enjoyed live music there. Food was alright but nothing special.

We went in with a deal voucher we purchased. The staff were awesome, great service, delicious food, and the place had such an awesome atmosphere. We would definitely go again and highly recommend it to all those we know!
Robert Thompson
This place was 100 times better when it was the Cock & Bull. At least C & B had a proper selection of real beer instead of the current range of weak codswallop lager (plus Guinness.) Rude disinterested bar staff.
Brian Khamwanthong
Great pub with good selection of drinks and food. Good range of beers and stylish cocktails. The food is hearty and good size, like the week day specials.

Staff are fantastic friendly and bubbly.

The live musician are always good and funky.

Great place to chill with friends after a hard day of work.
Spinnderela Midnite
We went to the Doolan Brothers last weekend, took the voucher deal which was awesome. The food was great, and big serve. The staff were friendly and gave prompt service. Please do similar deal for the 14 Sept All Blacks and SA match. Love the deal!!
Stu
Good place to eat and drink. The deco is great. But one thing I am annoyed about is they have big signs saying no smoking and people still smoke there. When told the staff, they just ignored me...even worse, it seemed like the culprits might be off duty staff.
Chelsea
My partner and I often visit Doolan Brothers when we want a quick, tasty, reasonably priced meal in a comfortable environment where we don't have to get overly dressed up. The drinks are cheap enough, food is delicious (obviously not fine dining but definitely worth the price) and I definitely recommend the steak and chips - the steak is the size of the plate! The dinner and movie combo is also a great deal.

We always get the same waiter, a young Irish/English man who is SO friendly and accommodating, will do anything he can to make your experience awesome. Will find out his name next time and give him some praise to the manager!

Definitely give it a try, we love it here.

This was our first time at Doolan Brothers and we with a party of 9. My partner had the $20 roast with a pint of beer. The roast was beef and a very generous meal, he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the fish of the day and it was Terakihi. My meal arrived later as they waitress had taken the order wrong so she apologised and offered a drink on the house.
The fish was worth the wait. Everyone else at the table was very happy with their meals.
The service was excellent and were we sat, at the tables behind the band the noise levels were not intrusive to conversation. We would definitely recommend to others. Great food, atmosphere, service and value for money !

We dined in on what was a very cold night. There were a few fellow diners who also braved the cold too.

It was out first time there under the Doolan Brothers banner. We opted for the $20 special for a roast beer and a pint. The barman did offer a pint of soft drink for the non drinker instead. Our meals arrived after a short wait. We all commented that it was very good for the price charged. Sufficient portions of meat and vegetables. We were too full to attempt dessert.

For one of our diners it was the second consecutive night of having this special, he still enjoyed it.

The decor is a typical English themed style pub !

Louise: went in for a work do and ordered several entree dishes as they dont provide nibble platters. Entree's were great but value-wise, very expensive for a group. Staff and service were great.
Rebecca M Kruger
Staff lovely, friendly helpful cheerful - they deserve 5 stars and nice to hear a couple of Irish accents too, but food not great, ordered calamari - very rich what it was dusted in and was quite sickly after a few pieces, roast - veg was great but meat was huge hunky pieces, certainly wasn't off a roast just put you right off eating it.
Deco great colours but too cluttered inside with stuff on shelves by ceilings and too many pictures ..... Less is more!
Tessa Hall
Service and food was great!
