Review Kokoya Sushi - Auckland Central

Elias Harb
There aren't many good, reasonably priced (i.e. <$14) lunch restaurants this side of town. Fortunately Sushi Kokoya is one of those. I love the variety, sushi, donburi, udon and poke. I also enjoyed the ability to make your own lunch box. My only issue was the lack of labelling (price and product), but i'll definitely be back!

In my personal opinion I find this place different, I really like it, specialy the variety, my only issue with this place was the lack of labelling, its hard to know the prices and it ended up being very expensive, nice place, lovely, and friendly staff. Really clean.

They have fantastic sushi dishes and love the free bee they give. You can order hot drinks as well. Totally loved it

This place is definitely a pleaser. So much variety in sushi, fried tempura, rice/noodle dishes and the newer addition of the poke lunch bowls. Cost is reasonable and service is always great.

Amazing sushi selection

Good sushi but be careful with price counting, happened few times to me that I was asked to pay more than should. Some of the stuff needs to practice math!

Good selection of sushi , and menu orders are served quickly, wish they label the sushi with price.

Lovely sushi, convenient, compact, quick. Surprising elegance for so speedy a meal. And, of course, delicious.

Friendly staff and quality food. A little pricey otherwise a great place for lunch.

Fantastic range of sushi and hot food. Love the free miso.

Choose just what you want from a wide variety of fresh foods. Also, you can order from a menu.

Fresh salmon and good quality sushi perfect for lunch. Their presentation never fails to amaze me - everything always looks so good and appetizing. Their sushi is quite pricey, the normal sushi rolls you can get for around $1 in the CBD is $1.30 here. The difference in quality is definitely noticeable but I think going there everyday will be very expensive. Overall, I love going to this restaurant. They also have free miso soup as long as you bring your own cup. Otherwise, you need to pay 50c for a biogdegradable cup.

I only go there coz it's right outside of our work place entrance. It is a place I go to when it is raining outside and I don't have other lunch options. Although there are a great variety of sushi and donburi choices / flavours to choose from, the deal breaker for me is the "over the top prices". If you're not careful you can easily push your spending to $30.00 for lunch - Ouch!! The service is minimal, as they're just focusing on the speed to get customers in and out. Food quality is average...nothing too special I don't think. I think a score of 3/5 would be quite generous.
Edit 12/6 - added Miso Katsu Don (Chicken) photo.

Expensive sushi eatery right below the Microsoft building. Was meeting a client for lunch around this part of the CBD and he was in the mood for some quick sushi so we dined in at Sushi Kokoya. I didn’t expect the place to be packed like sardines, but to their credit, the line moved fairly quickly.

I appreciated the variety of sushi on offer—traditional, brown rice, grilled fish, and fried snacks. There was plenty of choice and colour to dazzle.

I picked a variety of things which came to $24–ridiculously expensive in my opinion for typical lunch sushi. This did irk me a little bit but considering the location and customer market, I need to empathize more.

Showstopper; A great variety of different choices and flavors.

Overall Grade: B

A wide range of sushi, sashimi, donburi and udon. What I have tried so far was fresh and tasty food. They could be very busy during lunch times and has limited seats so be prepared to have it to go instead of dining in. Also, would like to suggest displaying the price tags of their sushi and sashimi.

Fast food version of sushi. Their sushi is not as good as the sushi from those proper Japanese restaurants. The proportion of the rice and the fillings in a roll is not good at all.

I stopped in as I had to wait nearby and had delicious sushi but was so struck by how lovely the people there were that I absolutely had to add my review. A calming and beautiful human moment and great food. They went the extra mile for me.

Very busy sushi shop in the Vodafone building. 'Choose your own' sushi & sashimi as well as other options. They also have donburi & other menu items they make fresh. All food appears freshly made. Service is good

This is one of the largest spread of sushi that I have seen in a place here in Auckland. There is so much variety on display here that it's easy to lose control when choosing your meal. It doesn't help that there is no clear indication of price for each selection so the chances of bill shock at the end is high. That would be entirely the buyer's fault however as there are always a good number of waiters and waitresses behind the counter to assist when needed. They have individual sushi selections as well as pre-packed sushi, which is ideal for the cost conscience buyers out there. On top of that, every customer has access to a free serving of miso soup.

Overall this is becoming my Go To lunch place during office hours and would recommend it to all that is craving a good Japanese lunch meal. 👍🏼👌🏼

This place has the best choice of fresh sushi in the area and it's really well priced for its location.
Great for lunch when you don't want to spend a fortune and want something clean and tasty.
The sushi here is ways fresh and well presented. The range is vast, and there's always specials on different sushi types. The staff are friendly and offer free miso soup with purchases.

Who would've thought that such a great sushi donburi house could be tucked away here in the viaduct, a secret gem only to be frequented by the drones that appear from the corporate offices in the vicinity... It has one of the most amazing displays of different types of sushi I have seen in the CBD, and the hot selection is also fairly comprehensive, with my salmon teriyaki don top notch. The let down is the cavernously bland interior reminiscent of an airplane hangar, but that does allow the streams of corporates plenty of room to come and go in copious quantities :-) Definitely worth a visit if only to admire the prodigious sushi selection!
