Review Narm Thong Thai - Auckland Central

Not everyday the food looks exactly like the pictures in the menu and not that really matters but it tasted as amazing as it looked. I had the penang curry and golden prawns. The portions were a decent size and value for the price. We went for an early dinner so there wasn't a lot of other people but the atmosphere was relaxed and warm.

Very nice food. Friendly service, recommend a pink lady for cocktails… Have a chance to try. Crab fried rice and Herby fish and crispy duck. Money bag and curry puffs is amazing

We brought some friends from Myanmar with us and we all had a great time together enjoying the relaxing atmosphere, the absolutely wonderful service, truly yummy and extremely well priced food. Thank you very much we will definitely be back again.

My favourite Thai spot in Auckland. This place has been awesome since the ownership changed, I could eat here at least once a week. The crab fried rice is super delicious and thai beef salad is also a must have. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a yummy local Thai place

It's so good! I'll go again next time!

Absolutely gorgeous food, especially the noodle wrapped crispy prawns with plum sauce, I could eat a whole plate of them they were so delicious! We had a table of 14 and our food came out pretty fast for a busy Sunday night, staff were very attentive and so friendly and welcoming, we all loved what we got, the panang curry with pork was my favourite, spice levels were great too!

Had not been for a long time, but was a very good meal and enjoyable time was had by all.

Visited this place after several years. It was obvious that management had changed. Missed the usual greetings from staff in traditional outfit and the incense fragrance. Had a rocky start with the male manager who refused to accommodate a small special request without even listening to what it was. Told him he was rude and quickly salvaged with an apology. And thanks to waitress called Tip who was very friendly. She served us with kindness and a bright smile on her face. Food was fantastic and have to say it was better than the previous owners. Would have given a 5 start but had to minus one for my initial experience with the manager.

Very nice and authentic Thai food in a pleasant setting. Good value for lunch!

Had really yummy spicy fried rice which had tofu and veggies in it which was incredibly delicious and tried their medium spice yellow curry which doesn’t come with rice so you have to order it separately but it’s so delicious! Definitely recommend. Tried it for the first time and will be going back :)

Great food and customer service. Good pricing. Credit has a surcharge so bring cash or debit.

Food was good , but wish there was more variety and a bit more spice sauces or spice in general not just sweet chilli sauce . Customer Service was nice

We had their buffet. I am not so keen on buffet usually, but their buffet was Perfect dinner option for family with kids like us. There were plenty of kids friendly options like spring rolls and squid rings, noodles and fried rice. Stir fry had plenty of yummy crunchy vegetables. Salad was great. Such a lovely atmosphere with lovely service. Will try their menu next time.

We went there for family dinner. The whole restaurant had just one big table which was almost finished when we entered. Only one girl taking care of everything was bit odd as in when you have big tables n big menu I personally feel there should be at least two people for service.
Ultimately service was bit slow and the person serving was not much happy that day. She also seemed bit unwell maybe that’s the reason.
Food was good but service spoiled everything as when we asked for some sauce the girl got irritated and took really long to serve it ( got it only after we asked her 2 times).
P. S. we can understand if you are feeling unwell you don’t feel like working but in that case you should take off and not work
We liked the food and would visit again but expecting better service
This rating is only for food maybe next time we get better service I can give extra stars

Literally the WORST restaurant ever. So unhygienic, the cutlery wasn’t fully clean and the food arrived cold and to top it all off- had a hair in it too!!Made me feel sick!

Delicious food. Much better than other thai restaurants I have been to. Friendly staff. The Pad Thai was AMAZING and the curry was great as well

Came in tonight for a buffet dinner with the family. The curry puff was quite soft but filled with lots of curry potato and sauce. The spring roll was crispy. The sweet and sour fish(not sure if that was the name of it) was really good. It was extremely soft and the outer layer was fried perfectly. The sticky rice in the sticky rice dessert wasn’t too sweet but the mango on top was quite sweet.
There wasn’t much food to choose from for a buffet price of $25.

This place always impresses us. The food is very flavourful and delicious, ambience is beautiful. Wonderful place in the neighbourhood with friendly staff.

Ordered takeaway of Thai Green Curry - Chicken. Tasty and delicious however was a little disappointed with the lack of chicken. Barely 4-5 pieces of chicken in the container. Lots of big veges though.

Good place to eat but dont come here on a busy day or else you will starve. Came here on a buffet night at 7.30pm, hardly any food left. We ended up ordering from the menu. Water and beverage came fast. Service ok, the guy is on to it but girls are getting through the evening. Food is really good, must try the fish # 52 on the menu. They need air conditioning as the place is cozy and the smell gets to you when its crowed. I would eat here cz its my local and they play soothing music but on buffet nights as you would expect it's a fish market and people sitting in groups have no consideration of other dinners. I suggest call and check first before booking a table if they got group bookings.
My friends and I came for lunch here and it was empty so we found it very calm and peaceful. I ordered their Green curry with rice and found it extremely sweet and watered down. I've had way better Thai Green curry dishes before. One of my other friends had the prawn curry on rice and which tasted the same as well. It only had about 3 prawns for the whole dish. If compared the price for the food then I recon it's not as bad but they could really lower down the sweetness on the food and add more texture and flavor.

We used to be regulars and the food was really nice. The quality of food has decreased a bit but the staff are always friendly and it's a family friendly environment:)

It was pretty empty when we came though it was a bit unconventional to dine out on a Wednesday night at around 8pm. Had some great pad thai here :) very filling and flavourful - I especially loved the caramelised red onion throughout. Definitely recommend prawn over the chicken version as chicken is a little big tough. Curry puffs were also delicious - great pastry! Just a good neighbourhood Thai place, standard Thai food prices so not a cheap eat. Would be great for family gatherings. One thing that really stood out was the kind and accommodating staff behind the counter - thank you :)

Most authentic pad thai I have had outside of Thailand. Fantastic lunch deals as well. Also, they are happy to customise the spicy if you enjoy it authentically hot!

While it is a prettily appointed restaurant , the proof of the pudding does not send one into Thai raptures (I'm not referring to the desserts here). For some reason, Mt. Roskill seems to rigorously distance itself from good restaurants. A menu card entices patrons - "duck lovers must try our duck spring roll". It is more the stuff of lovers' separations, with none of the intensity, rather only a dreary sensation that you're eating some sort of a roll made out of any given material on earth. Service can vary, with initial lack of smiles grading into better concerns later especially if other customers ebb away. Prawns on Toast fares better, although using better prawns and crunchier toast would have truly elevated this potentially fantastic dish. In past moons , a preparation of whole fish was an exercise in drudgery with little piscine flavour and dull flavours while a carb-based dish was too sweet. So this time, I requested chicken fried rice without the pineapple (pineapple?! seriously?!!) and without sweet tones. The brief was thankfully obeyed, and there was a generous offering of the said dish with liberal meat, vegetables and rice. 'Twas filling undoubtedly - a decent finish to my experience here.

Ambience was quiet and serene, great little restaurant to take the family out and not cough out so much of your wallet.

We ordered the Phad Phrik Nod (Chicken), Pad Thai (Prawns) & Red Curry Chicken. We enjoyed it so much!

Super delicious food, we ordered Mild level of spice and it still made me sweat! But I will not regret it though, neither will you!

Nice Thai decor however seems a little run down. Good traditional Thai food for it's price.
Refillable rice is always good :)Also very affordable.Good for large groups and they have a large table at the back.

There's some days when you just want some comforting Thai curry with fluffy jasmine rice. You'll find it here at Narm Thong Thai at Mt Roskill, We were overwhelmed by the items on the menu, this ain't no hipster fusion fare, but worked decently for a chilly spring day.

Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/narm-thong-thai-sept-14

Great customer service, good atmosphere, yummy food. We had Tomkha soup, Larb and pad gapow. They were all yum! One of the best Thai restaurants I have been in Auckland with reasonable price. Will definitely come back again.

Great value and tasty Thai food. Yummy duck curry with grapes and delicious pad Thai. Highly recommended. Great little local eatery worth a try

We have been here on several occasions with friends and family. Today's visit unfortunately was terrible. The service was 5/10 but the food was 2/10. The main meal order was wrong and luke warm. We thought the main ingredients in the food was SUGAR very light in Thai flavours and when we we told management they didn't seem to care or even offer a sorry, but very quick in taking the money for a meal we didn't even eat. NEVER AGAIN!!

Offers Thai buffet meal with $25.00 per people on every Thursday evening. Have to keep eating the same dishes because the choices was slim and similar. Every diner should not be shy and grab the fruit as much as they can eat, because there were only two times of fruit platter would be served.

My favourite Thai Restaurant in Auckland. Been dining at Narm Thong for over 7 years now. I have never been dissapointed. All dishes come with Rice. The staff top up your rice if needed with no extra charge. Some of my favourite dishes on the menu - the Gang Phed Ped Yang (duck) Curry presented in a hot pot, the Choo Gee with Prawn is lovely. Ped Grob - Roast duck served with vegetables and a delicious peanut sauce. Tom Kha with Prawns or chicken - amazing flavour! I have tried almost all dishes on the menu and all are amazing that I can never decide every time.

So this was my $18 takeaway Thai green curry.... We asked for more vegetables in it rather than there standard chicken and eggplant ingredients. This was basically the worst curry I've ever had. Why is the broccoli and cauliflower brown? How is this an acceptable $18 meal? So disappointing as this is the only Thai restaurant in my area. Guess I'll be making my own from now on.

Undoubtedly my favourite Thai food joint in Auckland. I had this insane Thai food craving during my pregnancy and only Narm Thong hit the spot. Thick, fragrant curries that leave you with the authentic taste of your favourite Penang or Green curry. Seriously high quality and very affordable.
#thaifoodfanatic

Apparently this place has been here for years, surprised no one has reviewed it. The night we went (Friday) was fairly busy too.
As always the Thai hospitality is well executed and I just love it! Entrees arrived fast, nothing special. Mains however were great, had chicken pad Thai after a long time and was not disappointed, Asked for hot and they delivered!. Overall Price was average, Food was good, Menus were unique and seemed like a nice quiet restaurant in Roskill.
