Review Bawarchi Indian Restaurant - Auckland Central

Pratik Chandra
Decent food decent portion sizes. It appears the owners or chef may have changed since the last time I’ve visited this place as the quality has dipped a bit. The customer service really needs to improve, the person serving us was completely uninterested and did not answer questions about the food.

Tried the seafood sizzlers at this place was amazing and then took some takeaway of biryani and , the biryani hear kills it. The taste of the curries is awesome, 😋

Had a great experience on my visit to Bawarchi, lots of options to choose from you could feel the aroma around. All thanks to the team helped me to get to taste what I liked from the menu. A must-visit place 😋👍🏼

Ordered biryani jumbo and a few additional curries and dishes, the food was amazing

Loved the biryani’s every time we had from here (I’m commenting on Evening’s only in the restaurant not the buffet) , found the buffet food not as great as the normal restaurant. Glad that it’s still consistent unlike other places around town.

We loved the food, very delicious!! Everything was great!!!

Very first time trying Indian style buffet Delicious as expected! $24.99 per person 45 to 60 mins all you can eat It is worth the money if you are having a big stomach My favorite Fried chicken Vegetarian green and potatoes mix Biryani Several nicely done curry sauces Only the desert was not my cup of tea, that's a bit pity

I really like dining or getting takeaways from Barwachi. Food quality and quantity is on par with paradise takeaways but without the long lines and crowds of people. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They have a dine in area, buffet & takeaways. Ordered chicken hakka noodles and the schezwan chicken noodles this time, both were freshly cooked and tasted delicious.

Bawarchi Restaurant is a taste sensation! Everything on the menu is delicious, but their Biryani is truly exceptional – a must-try. The Chicken Lollipop is a flavor explosion that you shouldn't miss, and their tea complements the meal perfectly. In simple terms, Bawarchi is a foodie's paradise where every bite is a delight. Don't pass up the chance to savor their outstanding Biryani along with the scrumptious Chicken Lollipop and a soothing cup of tea.

Never like to give feedback or review but I personally like the service they are giving and a great customer service. If you are not happy with food they make their extra effort to put smile on face. Like the food and service.

We visit here often. Especially for their lamb biriyani which my friends and husband love! I totally recommend the chicken 65 and chicken Szechuan dry starters. Their naan/toto and curry selection is good too. The quality of the curry is little small compared to other Indian restaurants I’d say. Their rabdi dessert is my favourite, but it can be very rich and filling. Hence we usually share this. Even though I love this place, I’ve few concerts that I wish they take care of. First of all, I find their service very unprofessional. There are a few instances where the waiter has missed the ordered. Once they just served the curry, but we sat n waited for our naans and rotis which never came. When we checked with the waiter after 15 minutes, he had not taken down the order. I mean, it’s common sense really to serve the curry with bread. It’s things like these which are key to any restaurant business. To train their staff to be think about the orders. Another instance was when we ordered medium spicy like always, but this waitress got us extremely spicy food. My Indian palette found it extreme! Mostly they take 20+ minutes to serve you. It would be nice if the waiters informed us about their service time / delays while ordering the food so that we can set our expectations right. Last but not the least, I wish they maintain the consistency in taste. We felt that twice when we had the lamb biriyani it was not as good as it always is. This place has the potential to be a top Indian restaurant if they become more professional.

Our first time here, not a fan of their curries. Lacks taste, just doesn't reach that high note. Bhuna Chicken was sweet, tasted more like Butter Chicken with extra tomato gravy. Portion size small for $16 with no rice. Lamb Briyani was nice but meat to rice ratio very poor especially if your paying $12 for flavored rice. We'v tried it, won't be back due to our strong palate, this place is Not our cup of tea. Please don't be discouraged with my review, they have a big selection of food, everyones has their taste preferences.

Sandringham is in no shortage of great Indian food spots. You've probably all heard of the classic Paradise (which I love) but the lesser known Bawarachi down the road really adds to the list of top notch spots. <br/><br/>Devilled Chicken: Delicious. Wonderfully spicy with a balancing salty sweetness with the sauce. <br/>Chicken Bhuna: Very nice. Ordered it hot and did not regret it. <br/>Charcoal Lamb: Incredibly unique. Smoky nutty curry with really tender lamb. <br/>Schezwan fried rice: This was the wild card in the order. Was about to order biriyani but in the last minute decided to try something new. Glad I did because this was awesome. Imagine if chicken 65 and biriyani had a love child. Brilliant.

Love the way technology has been used in terms of scanning bar code for menu.. loved the biryani.. good service.

Our go to place for food most of the weekends. Biryani is very good more like homemade and the chinese starters are delicious too. Not a big fan of the curries here.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Auckland my favorite was chicken 65 chicken tandoori and bengali fish curry

Ordered the $40 chicken biryani... tastes okay but poor value for money compared to Paradise... very small portions of chicken... mostly rice, no boiled eggs (cost $5 extra for 2 boiled eggs and chicken 65 garnish... Paradise includes this for $40)

We ordered a couple of dishes (chicken tikka masala and paneer tawa masala) with naan yesterday and were highly dissapointed for a couple of reasons.<br/>1. Chicken portion in the gravy was as little as it could be.. totally not worth the money! Hardly had like 4-5 really small pieces and gravy quantity was also less<br/>2. Both the veg and non veg gravies seemed to taste very similar!<br/>In these unprecented times, the least we expect is to feel cheated by such well-known restaurants. Hoped to have a better review.

We ordered family pack of chicken fried rice at about 9pm at night and had half left over and kept it in the fridge. Only to find it spoilt by 7am in the morning. It was not edible and smelt really bad. We were given stale food which could not even last the night. When I called them about it they told me that we can't do anything as we tell people who buy our food that we cannot guarantee the freshness for more than 2hours due to the sauce used. What type of a sauce is that. I am over the whole craze over Bawarchi food!!!! Never Again!!
Abhishek Mor
It's just a boiled rice with no salt and spices. there were hardly 4 pieces of chicken in $40 family pack. only rice for $40 is expensive better try paradise then.

LOVED IT! 😋 The best Indian butter chicken place. It's affordable and delicious! The curry tastes perfect, not too thick or too creamy. It was just the right amount of flavour and creamy. Food can take a while to arrive however it was worth the wait.<br/>Yummy! And will definitely be coming back to bring my froends to try!

I loved all the food we had it was cooked extremely well and every dish was certainly value for money, the service was good and the food arrived quickly. The decor isn't so great and is somewhat off putting when you arrive - although the food makes up for it.<br/>And i have heard many people say the decor is really bad but just try the food..<br/>And with this restaurant this is just the case, ignore the surroundings and just try their food.

Ordered 2 Lamb Biriyani, there were 3 small pieces of lamb and tons of rice. The Lamb was so tough and overcooked. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it. There are many other places in Sandringam that sells better biriyani for the same price.
Rose03
Ordered lunch special and the naan and the biryani seemed like it was yesterdays leftovers just heated and plated. The kadai chicken was average. Would not recommend lunch specials.

Service has always been great here. Staff are really friendly. Food has always been good, every time I have been here. Would recommend this place to everyone.

I love this place for their amazing food n service.. However was disappointed today as we went here at around 12.30sh for lunch n the dining area in the main floor was a bit busy so d waitress asked us to go to the first floor which was pretty empty just two couples seated.. We picked up a table near d window on the corner.. However a waitress came n said a bit rudely that we cannot sit here and should sit somewhere near d entrance of the floor as this seat is reserved for bigger groups.. There was no reservation board there n it was a table only for four ppl.. So technically looking at other couples seated similarly I questioned her back why can't we sit here n she said firmly u can't ciz u r just two ppl.. We sat to the table she said n within few seconds we saw her seating a couple on the exact seat where we wanted to n they were just two!! How come for exactly sane no of guests on one table u have two different rules??? The only difference I found is d skin colour for the other guest who got a preference over us.. "I called d waitress n spoke to her about it n how it's not a good customer service.. She had no good reason to come back with n apologised. Saying she is sorry for her behavior.. This is my worst experience ever in this restaurant which I absolutely love.. The waitress was an Asian looking one.. I don't want to discriminate against any one based on their skin color.. But at this instance it's imp for the restaurant to know about how their staff treat the customers.. Pls pass this review to them..

We visited it on Dinner Buffet on Monday, August 12, 2019. Food was not a good quality and even not fresh, only a few options in Dinner Buffet, the staff was unprofessional, space is too congested.<br/><br/>Not child-friendly · Slow service · Disappointing food · Small menu · Small portions · Poor presentation
Anish Shivdikar
The quantity is very Less, taste is average not that good and chicken gravy wasn't thick at all chicken lollypop was fine. I guess this place is only for biryani

Really bad customer service. Ruchika was serving us and our experience was one of the worst we have had in over 5 years eating at Bawarchi. Ordered the kadhai paneer, daal and chicken biryani - food was ok<br/>One good thing that happened was Bawarchi helped save some money for dessert, ordered the sweet corn soup, which was sweeter than a dessert, so had to return/cancel. Never coming back. <br/>Happy eating!
Nita Rani
The veg Manchurian is so so good. I think everyone should try that if they are ever in Bawarchi. Garlic naan is also very yummy you can try with one of the paneer dishes, it's a really good combo.

I loved the food A++ , A++ service. We went on 5/7/19 around 9pm & was served by an indian man wearing a white shirt id really love to praise him for his sevice only wish we got his name eventhough it was a buffet he still made sure we had drinks & was going around topping up customers with Nan bread. The absolute definition of going above & beyond. He is really an asset to this company 💯 !

Tasted pretty good and quite cheap. Pretty spicy too. Decent selection of food. The biryani was definitely better than I expected. Service was a little bit slow.

Very impressed by their customer service! Pointed out that their fruit custard tasted different & they replaced it right away without arguing. Restaurant & takeaway servers are polite & welcoming.<br/><br/>Neat & clean place.<br/><br/>Food was fresh & tasty.<br/><br/>Loved Kadai Paneer & Bhindi Masala.<br/>Asked to make it Indian Hot, but it wasn't hot enough.<br/>Nevertheless, I would like to visit again.

Had the buffet here last Sunday. Our group arrived a bit late and they were already thinking of packing up but they let us in anyway. Food was really good and service was excellent. Would definitely come back again!
Giraffe
Our regular briyani takeaway place. It’s worth the money we paid, we usually have it for days. The food is fresh and yummy! Try out their other ala carte dishes too!

Went to Bawarchi Takeaway to grab a family bryani pack. Decent selection. Reasonably priced.<br/><br/>Delicious bryani - less oily than Paradise, however the meat in the bryani is less too.<br/><br/>Service was good - as I was unsure about a few dishes, the guy gave some good recommendations.<br/><br/>I’ll perhaps give them a 3.5/5. <br/>
Way2Food 🍔🍟🍕🍖🍰 (25% Of ZomatoGold, Code : WAY29380)
Visited their "take away" the other day to buy some veg dishes.<br/><br/>Bought the karela masala which was very spicy 4/5 🌶️.<br/>Also bought the mixed veggies which was very oily.<br/>So won't be going back for any vegetable dishes from here.<br/><br/>Although the chicken dishes are good. Especially the chicken 65 & manchurian, they definitely need to cut down on the oil though... Way too much for their takeaway dishes.<br/><br/>But a must try here is the fruit custard truffle... It's definitely a 5/5 ✔️<br/><br/>I have yet to try their "buffet", but the selection from the menu is vast + they make some pretty good Biryani.<br/><br/>Staff : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐<br/>Price : ⭐⭐⭐⭐<br/>Food : ⭐⭐⭐

I bought chicken dum biryani from Bawarchi. I never ever had this kind of rubbish biryani before. In this biryani there were only rice and two pieces of chicken only. No any spices for biryani. I don't recomend anyone to go to this restaurant. Moreover people at counter are very rude.<br/>
Atul Bhateja
So couple of weeks back we went for buffet and it was like 9pm.. Strange to see only leftovers left in trays and only 2 options for veg n nonveg or may be 5 in total. Guy standing their was like not keen to top up and just like I don't care attitude.<br/>I guess gave 4 chances to this place and all 4 failed badly.<br/>

Their Balti paneer and kadhai paneer are the bomb! Excellent taste. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Baigan sabji was very soupy, I expected dry .

I probably visit this place once a week, would highly recommend this place to everyone. Each dish I have tried so far has been very yummy. I love the chicken biryani it has so much flavour and is one of the best dishes of Bawarchi.
Nashi Dasgupta
This place sells the best Biryani compared to others so far. We loved their Bhuna Chicken . It is absolutely a dish I would recommend to try. So good.

Iam eating at Auckland Bawarchi since long time and they are good but Last week I ordered Veg Hot and Sour soup takeaway and they Happy birthday Aunty 🎂 gave Chicken hot n sour. When called checked with Bawarchi they are like oh sorry may be by mistake it happened and very casual towards that 😡 it has costed as so much emotional damage and top of that the idiot says I can payback $10 or you can have something else 😡 Can I come to your restaurant and do some mistakes?? Pls make some better process to serve and respect your customers.

It was a pleasant experience after trying biriyani from all over New Zealand. The best Biriyani I have had in NZ till date and probably the best Biriyani in the country. The Karela curry was also amazing. I would definately recommend this restaurant.

After Paradise expanded with three different shops and became arrogant in customer service this is clearly the place to go. Great food and friendly service. Best indian in Sandringham! Here you can still try the taste of the pre-cooked curries. Just sometimes I wished it would be a bit more meat as I had a few times nearly only bones in my curries. But if I go for curries, thats the place to be!
Sravya Mandava
5 stars for the lamb biryani!! Just love it!! Apart from biryani, you would also love fried rice and of course all the other dishes if you love Indian food.

Perfect dine in for Indian food.. Authentic food ,perfectly cooked, homely feel, Had visited for dinner buffet,Had many varieties in both veg and non veg, worth every penny you spend here, satisfying food , good service , small place but clean and hygiene.<br/>Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Food was excellent (biryani, palak paneer, tikka masala) but the wait time for takeaway was ridiculous. My boyfriend got angry and then the order came out within five minutes (after a 45 minute wait and we were quoted another 15). I don't like getting angry to get an order but it seems to be the thing that lights a fire under their belly - Paradise seems to be the same. I won't be coming back which is a shame because their food is genuinely good.

I visited Bawarchi this morning for their weekend breakfast menu. Ordered Kaleji/ Gurda, paya and bheja masala with filter coffee. Kaleji/ Gurda was my favourite could taste the freshness of the organ meat also at the same time cooked up to perfection and the naan served was crispy and soft from inside same with the Paya masala nice thick gravy with good portion of meat served My only suggestion is that with the Bheja masala They just minimise the spice and not use chopped potatoes with it . Also their filter coffee is too good. So “I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE”😊
Muntaha.tajdar
Their website isn’t updated which means their lunch special on the menu isn’t actually available. We called to put an order through over the phone which was accepted and when we came to the restaurant we were told they can’t serve it as it’s not on the menu anymore. They did try call me afterwards but didn’t leave any voicemail as I wasn’t available at the time. <br/><br/>Food was average over all but paneer masala is really good! Portion is relatively small compared to other places but if you go in a group sharing food would be a better option.
Alienbabe
Got takeaways in Nov 2018, Butter Chicken and a Lamb curry, they smelt great!<br/> But unpacking them we found the Butter chicken was just small pieces of white chicken, not tandoori chicken and almost shredded without a punchy flavour, if you closed your eyes and ate it, you wouldn't know what you were eating. <br/>The Lamb Curry was a little better, hotter and spicier, but still nothing very special. It had bones in it, which I don't mind , as meat is sweeter next to the bone.<br/>The Naan bread was good. <br/> I wouldn't buy from here again as 2 curries and 2 naans for $30 wasn't  great value for mediocre meals. <br/>I find Paradise's food more tasty.

Best Biryani everrrrrr !!!!!!! Love it and will have it again n again n again n again n again 😀😋... highly recommended... do try their “chicken lollipop” very delicious 😋😋

THE FOODOLOGIST RATING:-<br/><br/> FOOD:-4.9/5 (Well Cooked ,authentic, well spiced)<br/><br/>SERVICE:-3.5/5 ( Fast, Efficient,Casual , Little More Attention Needed )<br/><br/>AMBIANCE:- 3.5/5 (Small ,quint,a little hustle and bustle every time the door swings open)<br/><br/>CLEANLINESS:- 5/5 (Very Clean, neat & tidy)<br/><br/>VALUE FOR MONEY :- 5/5(well priced, good quality)<br/><br/>FOOD POCKET DAMAGE:-***/*****(Cost For Two :- $50)<br/><br/>THE FOODOLOGIST REVIEW:-<br/>If you ever come to Auckland and look for an Indian restaurant the first restaurant you would be suggested is paradise . But famous does not always mean good in Sandringham battle of David and Goliath , Bawarchi definitely hits the right note . Have eaten here a couple of times and have never been disappointing will always opt for the din-in rather than the take away . On an occasion visited the place had the khadai prawns masala the prawns very cooked well and the Marsala was perfectly balanced . The dragon chicken is good if you like spice and the indo Chinese is pretty decent and remind me of home . The service is sometimes a hit or a miss just this once when the waitress hardly cared , I guess she was been trained . Barwachi is definitely where you should be eating cant wait to try something new there
Hope 🥰
$20 dinner buffet. Quite spicy and not much to choose from especially dessert. Got quite full fast and food was pretty standard. Atmosphere wasn’t bad but the place is pretty small so was a bit crowded when diners increased.

Service was fine initially. Ordered a number of dishes fish Manchurian, lamb with spinach and butter chicken with rice and naan. My family and I were the only people there other than a couple so we didn’t expect to wait too long. After 30 minutes of twiddling my thumbs asked how long food would take and shortly after got one curry no rice or naan which we ordered. 10 minutes later said we were going to leave and then was told “no don’t I’ll double check order with chefs.”After deciding to wait I watched a chef MICROWAVE my food to reheat it and then was cringing as the waitress then bought the plate to our table. We received our curries and naan no rice and sup bar service from this restaurant. My problem was their failure to communicate that their was a wait on the food. The waitress served food to people who had ordered around 15 minutes their food before ours. And then to watch a chef microwave food with the prices I was charged? No thanks I’ll keep that for frozen dinners from countdown

Bawarchi means The Chef! And a truly great Chef/s they are! We were warmly greeted & seated most comfortably. The staff were knowledgeable & very accomodating. We sought guidance on the choices & combinations of a sit in lunch & were rewarded with an extremely tasty & very well prepared set of dishes. The lamb & chicken dishes were just perfectly done & the gravy/curry were superbly flavoured. The naan breads were perfectly baked & not a single one was burnt too crisp or too dark. Full marks to your Chefs for such tasty food preparation. We also had their fish & were delighted at their versatility & excellence in bringing out each dish to its fullest potential. A thoroughly enjoyable meal accompanied with their Biryani & Mango Lassi & Masala Tea. Great value for money & very enjoyable lunch. Highest compliments to all your team for such great culinary skills & service with a smile. Thankyou for being such awesome hosts. Definitely returning & shall explore many more dishes soon. Well recommended to all lovers of truly tasty Hyderabad cuisine & great service.

Came here because paradise was full. Did not regret it, food was freshly cooked & hot. Waitress was kind. Would love if there was more options of food. But will definitely go back (:

Just love the food, the Mutton biryani was heaven and its been sometime bow and was craving for it.. This place is highly under rated, you have a lot of food options which is very difficult to find in Auckland, my wife loved her veg dal makhani.. i am surely visiting to try the halim and rogan josh, never had one so on my to do list. Finally its very reasonable 30 bugs and 2 people can easily stuff them, highly recommend.<br/>

Amazing food and truly Indian taste we have received today on Saturday the 08-09-2018. My only suggestion is that the service can be little bit faster as it was taking a bit longer then normal to get the food out of the kitchen. Rest all is amazing. Keep it up guys 😊

Favourite indian restaurant to go to. Hidden gem besides all the mainstream ones like Paradise etc. Try the Bawachi fish fry, Kadai chicken and the biryani. The usuals like butter chicken and rogan josh are overrated these days just like people going to a chinese restaurant to order a sweet and sour pork. Dont be that guy.
Ambrose
#bawarchi this is not something I expected from the food we regularly order. I can count and say how many times I have been to #Paradise and more to your place coz of the food. Hope you guys check what’s going in to your food.

The waitress was very unhygienic, his nail was as big as a toe and his nose was runny and his booger dropped in my plate. Sorry about this negativity but it really had to be said

5 star for indian food !! Quality and service wise its top notch !! <br/>We enjoyed butter chicken , mutter panner with butter naan and tandoori roti. Was good and must try if you miss indian food !!

Only tried their lamb rogan gosht and one of their vegetarian curries (not sure which since I didn’t order it) they were both amazing! Highly recommend coming here

The Biriyani is quite good. I love is better than any other on Auckland. The only problem with them is the lack of consistency. The quality fluctuates a lot. With regards to other dishes, the quality is quite average but they use a lot of food colour.

Decided to grab dinner with my father last Saturday night. Ordered Golden Chicken, Beja Fry and Indian Styled Butter Chicken. During my previous visits to Bawarchi, the Golden Chicken was delivered plentiful, with much flavour and originality. This visit, there was barely any chicken, and it tasted like popcorn chicken mixed in some sweet and sour sauce - truly disappointing. The Beja Fry was brought out a plate, it spread out thin, so when I piled it up, it showed how small the portion really was. Lastly the Indian Styled Butter Chicken, it didn't even taste like butter chicken, it felt like chicken in tomato soup, and I even mentioned this to the waiting staff that brought this dish out to us, he swapped it out and brought in a new curry, and surely it was a new curry, because it still didn't taste like Indian Styled Butter Chicken, forget Indian Styled, not even like the mild Butter Chicken that everyone knows and loves. Honestly, lost all respect for this establishment after being a family favourite since the very start. Will not recommend.

I’ve been craving Biryani for almost a whole week now and I have no idea why. The idea of basmati rice cooked with spices and meats seems normal and unextraordinary yet for some weird reason I can't stop dreaming of Biryani. To take a rationale guess to why I’m feeling this way, it was probably because I went to Paradise a week before and saw a family chowing down on a family pack Biryani. Knowing that I needed to satisfy those cravings and soon, I decided to do my due diligence in researching where the best Biryani is in Auckland. <br/><br/>After trawling through pages of Google NZ search, there were just too many audiences pointing towards Barwarchi, Paradises main competitor, and archnemesis. With a messy story between the founders of Bawarchi and the owners of Paradise, I was determined to try Barwarchi under the rationale that to be able to compete with the juggernaut that is Paradise, there must be something unique to their signature Biryani. <br/><br/>Coming into the restaurant I’ll admit I wasn’t too impressed with the lady serving us, she was rather distant with her service. There was also a bit of a wait, around 20 minutes for us to get our Special Family Combo which was a family sized Biryani with some slices of egg, your choice of meat (chicken or mutton), spices and Chicken 65. This is a massive meal, and could easily feed 5-6 people. I loved how they presented the dish, it really made you feel like a king due to the size and vibrant colors. The aromatic smell will definitely make you hungrier than when you were waiting for the meal. Tackling the dish with 3 healthy, wannabe athletic dudes we thought it’ll be a piece of cake and we’ll still have some space left for dessert. Our bravado was wrong as we barely cleared around 60% of the plate and opted to take the rest of the 40% home in 3 separate takeaway containers. <br/><br/>In terms of value, you can’t really go wrong here. The taste and flavor were superb, devouring spoonful after spoonful, it became clear to me why Barwachi was able to compete with Paradise and it was because the Biriyani they served was bloody awesome. There is a nice kick of spice and the chicken flavor along with the seasoning was present in each mouthful of rice. The Biryani here was damn amazing. What also made our evening better was that the lady became nicer to us as we raved about the Biryani. I would highly recommend foodies to come and try the Biryani here, especially for large groups of people. My only other criticism would be that there wasn’t enough Chicken 65 to go with the Biryani, they sprinkle around 5-6 small pieces of chicken 65 on top of the rice. I would like to have a bit more Chicken 65 as the sauce coating went superbly with the rice. Chicken 65 is chicken fried with batter covered in a sweet spicy curry/sauce. <br/><br/>Showstopper: Look at my picture of the family sized biriyani, it's bloody marvelous to look at. <br/><br/>Overall Grade: A

Had never tried Bawarchi so tried their buffet dinner. The tables were dirty which were cleaned by a wait staff using a small dry paper serviette which took ages to clean and didn't do a good job either. The food didn't have any heating arrangement underneath the trays , hence all the food was cold. Food was not labelled properly, I mistook a starter thinking it was non-veg but it turned out to be a veg starter on tasting.  The naan were made and kept near the buffet area, I would have preferred freshly made naan on order. The food spread was limited and food was not replenished  generously. Had to tell the wait staff  every time to replenish food which came in small quantities after quite a while. The website showed photos of fruit juices but sadly all the fruit juice containers were empty. I wanted to have fresh salad but could not find any.  Would definitely prefer Paradise buffet to this one.

Food was ok, staff behavior was ok but food was not that great as expected. We went all the way from hobson street to try the food but unfortunately it wasnt that worth. The quantity of the food was not so good.

Even though I don’t frequently visit this joint, delicious food is ingrained in my memories... chicken 65 is epic along with their biryani...

Best Biryani in town . Must try Biryani . Genuinely high quality ingredients . No food colouring used to achieve vibrance but every mouthful is just a perfect harmony of taste flavour and aromas .

Very disappointing, had brought a chicken biriyani family on this valentines day evening. The take away shop was busy and they took 30 min to deliver. Not at all worth for the wait. Flavorless rice and some boiled chicken pieces  . Absolute rubbish. Previously the taste was good but failed miserably to keep the consistency.

Tasty curries. I’m a big fan of indian vegetarian dishes. Just went there to buy a biriyani but the curries were looks amazing so i choose okra curry. Taste of that curry was amazing. Good customer service as well. Definitely comeback for more vegetarian curries.

I actually wanted to go to the famous Paradise Restaurant which is closer to this (where the quality of food and service is always great) but went here as I was short of time.  Anyways... I ordered 2 vegetarian curries and I was told that it would take about 15 minutes. After waiting for 40-45 minutes, finally my order was given without any apologies for the wait. After confirming with the lady at the counter,  if it indeed was my order, I left. After reaching home in New Lynn, when I opened the box, I realised that I was served one Chicken curry instead of my  vegetarian one . I have to also mention here that the other curry was vegetarian but there was no flavour. It was so mild despite us telling them to make it spicy.  I called them up for the mixup of giving me the chicken curry instead of the vegetarian and they again without apologising asked me to bring the curry back so they could exchange it. I told them that I lived in New Lynn and their standard response was that they can't do much. I was quite disappointed with their customer service, the quality and taste of the  food and for the long waiting time. I would definitely not go there again and would suggest everyone to avoid this and instead try the nearby and more famous Paradise!!!

Variety of options to select from! Eggplant curry is the best amongst veg items. Fish dishes are awesome too. Ordered garlic prawns for the first time and waited almost 40 minutes....chef personally told me that they freshly marinate the prawns before grilling....fantastic smokey flavour.....worth waiting for! 💯 out of 💯 for fish dishes! Famous for chicken but do go for fishy fish too :)

Mutton biriyani is good even though some days it taste odd, egg fried rice is nice. Custard is great. Chicken Tawa Masala tastes good cos of its green chilly flavour

Great food, not the usual "adopted" menu to the western taste buds, but good Indiam food at a great price, they also allow sampling which makes it much easier

My go-to weekend brunch place. Bawachi offers savoury spicy brunch items that caters to your soul. Being a Malaysian, I struggle looking for a place that does Masala Thosai, and now that I've found Bawachi, the breakfast search is complete.

Bold strong and Authentic Flavours made the right way dfinitely for the Indian palete ! Been visiting takeaway and Dine in for years and never disappointed. <br/><br/>To the owner,<br/>The people serving on the counter can be a little more friendly and energetic (just like your neighbouring restaurants) And availability and wait time can be reduced/improoved by better inter store communication.

My wife and my self visited bawarchi buffet on 02 jan 2018, it was totally dissatisfying dinner for both of us. Still we are suffering with food poisoning, we have not had any other food except bawarchi menu. I am pretty sure it was happen with them. Furthermore they have increase the buffet price but no any display mentioning that. It’s not fair. They should show and inform to customer. We got to know that once going to pay the bill. Bawarchi’s dining restaurant customer care is so careless and they think we came to eat free of charge. No respect for customers. This was happen few times to us.

We are regular customers of the restaurant.<br/>Excellent food, good location and outstanding customer service by Ruchika everytime we dine there.<br/>Highly recommend this place.<br/>

Always heard of the Restaurant so today I,though to have Dinner, so I bought takeaway, but the Naan Bread was too thick and not cook properly, Curry was ok. Not worth to try.

Paradise was super busy so we thought of trying Bawarchi and we are never going there again.<br/><br/>We ordered Chicken Achari and Bhidi Masala<br/><br/>1) Curries had lot of gravy and the chicken pieces were with bone with no or very less meat.<br/><br/>2) Rice is not served with the $13 curries..we then ordered rice for a charge of $2 poor quality rice not like good quality basmati rice as served in paradise..<br/><br/>3) Asked for some onions, the male server said ok..lady waitress then come back and says sorry we charge for onions??? <br/><br/>4) Roti are so thin as if you are eating popadoms...chef is saving on flour?<br/>5) Poor service with bad attitude..<br/><br/>SHAME on you BAWARCHI.

I’ve heard great things about this place, how the chef was the original chef from paradise, so obviously we were excited to try it out. However, I have to say I was slightly disappointed.<br/><br/>First of all we booked for table of 12 as it was for a birthday party, however, there was a wooden wall right between the table, which essentially separated us from the rest of the group :(<br/><br/>The food (lollipop chicken, butter chicken, and chicken tikka) were all acceptable. However, my median butter chicken was hardly spicy. The naan bread was dry, slightly burnt, and hardly had any garlic butter that we ordered for. The most disappointing part was the size of the dishes - for about the same price, you get twice the amount of food than this place. In addition you have to pay extra for the rice.<br/><br/>Overall yummy enough Indian food, but would really rather go to Paradise.

Great food every time, the service at the dine in section is good but sometimes you have to prompt the waiters a bit e.g. ordering drinks, changing plates for mains, bringing knives and occasionally the order can get mixed up a tad, but they do sort things out as best as they can. Love the golden chicken and biryani best in Auckland.
Bernie Judeel
Delicious affordable food and prompt service. <br/>Got a wide selection of food for a great price. It accomodate for vegetarian and keto dietary needs.

This is one of the best places of Auckland to have briyani ,which is in Authentic Hyderbadi style .The sides are also very lovely ,which suits Indians to a greater extent ,but not others .Chilly chicken is awesome here .Apart from all the usual food dishes that is available  I would always have the egg briyani ,this is spicy ,lovely ,amazing (I would term it an spicy egg fried rice rather than egg briyani ).Finally the desserts that are served here are very good ,custard fruits ,payasam is great to taste .as a verdict it is worth the money .
Aishwarya Raj
The food is really good its unfortunate that their quality of food does not match the standard of their service. Really disappointed in that sense that when we got seated we did not receive the menu and were waiting for a menu for a long time. They did not clear our table for a while and only did so when we told them to. Staff are not very friendly. I would recommend better doing a takeaway then dine in

My review is based on takeaways. 😀<br/><br/>The Veg biryani was too good.. no doubt about that! The yoghurt and Salan which is given with the biryani were equally good!!<br/><br/>Although I was disappointed with the Paneer Butter Masala as the paneer was not soft and its gravy was also okay. But I am looking forward to try their other vegetarian options. <br/><br/>Husband had the Banjara Chicken, which he loved. He repeated his order next time as well so I guess it really must be something! 😀<br/><br/>

Biryani and Bawarchi are a pair located in Auckland. Authentic Hyderabadi dum Biryani .. must say it is delightful. I don't miss India when I visit this place 😅
Leo Dilshan
Not a fan of the flavours . Their prawn dish is pretty good. Apart from that though, very ordinary Indian flavours . Kinda too strong actually . Fried rice is very peppery and tastes like something u can just make at home with not many ingredients. Crowded small place. Not for me at least.
Sampoorna Laxmi
The Diwali special buffet was very good. It's our first time here. And we love the spicy food. To note. Its nice and spicy. I think u can request for the spicy level... not sure. Was bit too spicy for my little one. Good selection of vegetarian dishes too.

What a great experience. Indian food so often is a symphony of trainwreck flavours assaulting your taste buds.<br/>Starter Lamb kebabs<br/>Main Pepper Chicken curry<br/>Garlic Roti<br/><br/>The Pepper Chicken was a clever dish. Subtle flavours on the Palate. Soft tones that were excellent. Its a moorish dish with excellent balance <br/><br/>Simply 1/2 point loss as Roti was way too hard resembling a burnt frizbee.<br/><br/>I have tried many indian restaurants but never met one who balance the flavour to tones and layers of subtle discovery <br/><br/>A serious must try

Best Biriyani in Auckland. Extreme value for money especially when ordering the family sized biriyanis. The other food on the menu isn't quite as good as the biriyani.
Harsha Boginapally
This as close as you can get to authentic dum biryani.<br/>I am a regular here.<br/>Value for money :)<br/>A group of us normally go here and even after a big meal, we end up paying reasonable money per individual.

First time last time. The food was great but the service was atrocious and thats what out weighs it for me. What really peeved me of was the fact that I went there to have a quiet and peaceful place to eat but what I got was the exact opposite, we booked in to get a good table to then be placed at the front. Once again first time last time.

Good briyani. Gravy and yoghurt. Others are average. Chicken n lamb are both good.............................................................................

Amazing place, amazing place. Thank you to the owner of the restaurant for being very generous to during the whole month of Ramadan. Bawarchi has some amazing food and is not just into making business but also serving the people around. Thank you

Amazing food, best biriyani in town, love their chicken lollipop. You won't get disappointed eating here. Takeaway and dine in. They have a buffet restaurant too. Must visit.

Amazing tasty food, good variety of items for both Vege's and Non-Vege's...<br/>Best Try - Bawarchi Special Fish, Mango Lassi, Hakka Noodles or Schzewan noodles...<br/>Even fruit salad is nice...<br/>fast and Great service quality with friendly staff...<br/>we had gone for lunch but yet got the place after 20 minutes...as food is perfectly cooked and smells really tasty...<br/>If you are looking to activate your taste buds with spicy flavour this is the place to be...<br/>They have heaps of options for the food...<br/>Kudos Team Bawarchi :)

The food isn't as great as what is being offered in some of the competing restaurants in the vicinity. It takes ages before someone greets you when you are dining in and then there is a good amount of wait time before your food comes to your table. There is a lot of oil and colour in the curries and they leave a mark behind on your fingers to remind you that you had food from Bawarchi. Their biryani is alright I guess but its very oily and the quantity they give is less than that of Paradise but they charge more than them. If I don't have any other option in Sandringham then only will I go to Bawarchi else I would give it a miss.
Parishmita Saikia
Very bad experience. I asked for a small lamb curry and the girl at the counter hardly put any pieces of meat in the takeaway box. When I confronted about it, she took a takeaway box and put five pieces of tiniest pieces of meat she could find. Very bad customer experience.

Talawa gosh and biryani have been consistently very good... serving portions are good so its value for money ... will recommend this place for other

Went to the buffet restaurant of Bawarchi. I'm happy with the food since I consider it to be closest to authentic Indian cuisine outside my own kitchen :P This place has a smaller buffet section compared to another restaurant in the vicinity, but honestly better at the spread they put out. I prefer quality over quantity. My favourite here is the Daal and the Biryani - both are on point. Surely go here (go early) to get your fix of Indian "Mughlai" food. <br/>Only downer for me - the music played is too loud :|
Mmmfood
Both times I have eaten here the curries were very tasty. Unfortunately this taste comes at the price of excessive use of butter (to the extent where grease was floating on top of the curry). The second time, they also oversalted the chicken noodles to a degree where they became inedible. The atmosphere, especially in the upstairs area, is a bit dingy. Hygiene also didn't seem to be a strong point as there was grease on some of the chairs. Having said all that, the waiter we had seemed to be working very hard - the restaurant management may want to consider giving him some backup.
Kanishka Phulli
One of the best places for great North Indian food. For starters I will insist you to try their Seekh Kebabs, it is a bit spicy with great taste.<br/>In mains, Chicken Briyani is really good and for curries my personal favourite would be Achari Chicken and Charcoal Chicken.
Miso Hungry
Popped in here for a biryani fix due to its good reviews and proximity to me at the time the craving hit in the late afternoon of a weekday. So I ordered the mutton biryani as hot (which I assumed would be kiwi hot). It wasn't the quickest service given the low number of patrons. When the food arrived I quickly tested it and was disappointed to find it was at best kiwi medium heat. It was reasonably good for flavour although not strong and it lacked sufficient cardamom for my taste and had no cloves, which I also like. It was very dry in parts especially around the edge of the bowl it was served in leading me to believe it wasn't cooked fresh when ordered. The mutton (bone in) was also very dry. The accompanying raita was quite watery and salty and without any cucumber.<br/><br/>They don't serve any alcohol here which is a shame as I like a beer with biryani. I suspect this is due to their typical clientele as a result of their location in the heart of Sandringhamstan.<br/><br/>Overall a solid biryani and good value for money but I feel perhaps not quite as good as the hype put up about it on Zomato. I will probably go back if I find myself in the area and needing another fix if only to see if pre-made is indeed their modus operandi.<br/>

This review is based on my takeaways food experience. So far i never been there for dinner but go very often for takeaways. Why i gave 4/5 because sometimes food is very oily and naan's aren't as good as they known for. But still love the place.
Zhengjihan9
nice food, service is kind,my friend told me he like the food more than paradise.I think perhaps this kind of food is more Indian. It is really worthy to have a try.

You can't go wrong with a $16 buffet! This place has awesome biriyani I was really impressed, and all the different sauces, yoghurt, chutney that you might want on it. I would go just for a plate of this! They also have a bunch of fresh delicious naan that they regularly replenish which basically means I'm happy. There were also 2-4 vege curries (one with paneer cheese, dhal and another 2 I think) and two meat curries (kind of dry and not particularly memorable but the lamb was much better than the chicken. There were also some salads that no one touched, plenty of hot long grain rice, pakora and that yummy aloo jeera (?) that they often make. I really enjoyed it, though if you're looking for a curry buffet I'm not sure this is your best choice. <br/><br/>I think Paradise is now doing a buffet too so maybe that's more your jam? Either way it's worth testing out some places in Sandringham. Yum :)<br/> <br/><br/>Also I'm keen to come back and order things from the menu as I'm sure it's nicer if you get exactly what you want!

I read an article recently which claimed Bawarchi was 'Paradise without the queues" which inspired me to try it straight away.<br/><br/>I ordered the family biriyani to takeaway, which came with chicken 65 within the biriyani. The portion was well worth the $40 as it gave my fiance and I plenty of meals.<br/><br/>The chicken pieces were larger and more generous than what paradise offer, and the other ingredients and aromas were all in full effect.<br/><br/>Bawarchi has stiff competition in Sandringham, but it's a place I hope survives another day. It's knly a matter of time before I'm back for another biriyani.

I've been a bit slack with my reviews recently as most of the restaurants I've been serve similar type of dishes that although taste wonderfully, lack innovation and creativity. Bawarchi, however, is worth a special mention! Honestly hands down the best spicy garlic chicken curry, mutton briyani, and cheese naan that I've tasted in Auckland.<br/><br/>Tucked away behind a tiny street frontage on Sandringham road, it is hard to notice at first. But soon we discovered that it is as big as Paradise (if not bigger) as the two other shops that are joined up with Bawarchi are their buffet dining area and takeaway shop. Anyway we dined at the main Bawarchi restaurant which apparently was also 2 floors. Nonetheless, we were seated on the bottom floor in a small table with nice lighting and flowers on the table. We ordered a few dishes between the two of us thinking that the portions will be rather small given the average prices of $10. But we were so wrong! <br/><br/>The first dish that sizzled its way to our table was the chicken tandoori-delicious, red coloured chicken meat chunks that were tender and full of flavours. The bed of cabbage underneath was also a nice touch. Then the dishes all came very quickly. The spicy garlic chicken curry is a MUST! The perfect combination of the rich chicken curry with a tinge of hot garlic just blew my mind! I loved the cheesy naan too (would 11/10 recommend naan over their roti although that's worth a try too)! We've definitely overestimated ourselves by ordering the lamb briyani as well..but that was also delicious! With mouthwatering mutton pieces generously served with the rice. For drinks I tried their ginger milk tea (because I'm such a milk tea girl haha) it was interesting and good as a winter warmer!<br/><br/>Overall, I'd love to go back again and highly recommend Bawarchi to anyone looking for a memorable Indian feast! :)

This review is purely based on biryani and between the many places that now sell biryani in Sandringham, this has to be the best!. Perfect for takeouts.

Amazing Food with splendid choices of non veg delicacies.Do pay a visit if u find time during weekdays and it's worth every penny to spend some with amazing time with finger licking tasty food

Not the same food quality anymore! Chicken and lamb curry on display are never fresh! Made to order food seems to be too oily always! Customer Service seems to be alright!
Miss Kiki
My new mission is to try all the restaurants in this part of Sandringham Rd. <br/>I heard that the briyani here is the best so I knew I had to try it. We ordered the mutton briyani and a chicken curry - I think it was number 1 on the menu. The briyani is the best I've ever had, I don't often order briyani mostly because I want something saucy. <br/>The curry was not bad but the briyani was definitely the highlight. I will definitely be back for briyani and to try other curries on the list!

They have improved on the food quality. Our favourite is the chicken shezuan noodles. Their biryani is super delicious.. reminds us of the authentic Hyderabadi biryani back home! Highly recommended.

Bawarchi is okay in terms of service, but really good in the food they have a lot of shops like dine in and take away but there is also buffet. It is really awesome. There<br/><br/>are also a range of things on the menu and nearly every kid's favorite, haka noodles! They also cook it as soon as you order it so it will be fresh and ambrosial ready to eat! <br/><br/>By Sulaiman

Being a hyderabadi, i want the best biryani and its only Bawarchi that dishes out the best biryani in the city. Some of my favourites from this place are the kebabs, garlic naan, coriander chicken curry, indo-chinese soft noodles and mango lassi.

This is our the favourite Indian joint in the town. Specially for 2 dishes Bhuna Gosh dry and Chicken biriyani.<br/>There is no comparison of these 2dishes. Good for take away. <br/>I have visited this multiple times. <br/>Last time we ordered Bawarchi special fish dry, Bhuna Gosh dry, chicken biriyani. Fish was too bad, a thik layer of fish was coated in thick maida batter in red color. They added so much color into it that even the fish became the weired red color. Guys stop using color in your food. The fish taste could come out as the batter was so colorful and inneccessarily spiced. Will never order that again. Beware of the colorful dishes here.<br/>One more time we ordered chicken tikka.. that was too salty and drenched in red color.<br/>But we tried a take away of tandoori chicken, it was good on that day.

They r the best... they improved a lot and I bet that today they serve the best hyderabadi Biryani in town. the best part is that they r consistent with the taste. KUDOS to the chef

After a long time praise by many people I decided to visit this place for some good biryani. Horrible experience. Chicken Biryani had less flavours and was very cold. Chicken lollipop was very average, and was served with mint chutney, I asked the waitress if i could get schezwan sauce instead of the mint chutney. She absolutely had no clue. Some big competition on that street.

Our table of 3 visited on a Sunday night and were seated within 5 minutes. For a small restaurant, they seem to be struggling just with 2 on-floor staff members. <br/>The boti kebab was a disappointment, overcooked and therefore too dry to cut through and chew on. The kadai chicken was very satisfying as was the fresh naan but the schezuan prawns were the highlight of the night. The rice prices are a bit over the top ($8 for Jeera Rice!). <br/>We'll be back again to give it another go and see what else surprises us on the menu.
Jay Bhaskaran
Sorry.  After 2 food poisoning events with my family I wound not recommend Bawarchi.  Well I have been a loyal customer, but it just doesn't go that way at Bawarchi.  Nothing different from Paradise.   As the sooner they know you are a loyal customer, you are taken for granted.Sorry Bawarchi.  Had our (I mean my family with me) puking over the Chicken 65 and Mutton Biryani in the last 48 hours.

Another Indian takeaway and dine in restaurant in Sandringham. This places has really tasty curries both vegetarian and non vegetarian. Most if their non veg curries have bones making it more authentic to how its back in India. The indo-chinese option are also really good. One of the best Biryani places in Auckland. <br/>
StPr
I've been here three times and bought curry from takeaway. I went home and ate the curry immediately which was fine. I put the left over curry in the fridge and heated the curry in the Microwave in the evening and the Curry smelled. It seems the curry was spoiled. This happened three times.

Bawarchi is one of our favourite family dine in restaurants and takeaway aswell! We always pop in for dinners with our extended family from 8 people to 18-20people especially if it's someone's birthday and we've been never disappointed with the service. <br/><br/>Food is amazing, service is great and staff are lovely. My mom came with her friends for dinner few years back and that's how we got to know about it. <br/><br/>Our favourite would be the Bawarchi prawn special dry! We even get this takeaway cause it's finger licking good! <br/><br/>We always recommend this restaurant to our family and friends. It's understandable how it gets really busy but we don't mind waiting 😊

We usually went to Bawarchi only if the line for Paradise was too long. However, Bawarchi has proved itself to be just as good, if not better at some dishes.<br/><br/>The staff are professional and the service is quick.<br/><br/>I really enjoyed the egg biryani here, more so than the biryani at paradise. The chicken 65 is a little too spicy. I also prefer the manchurian from paradise.<br/><br/>Great place for a good cheap eat.

Went there with my wife week ago and had their take aways a few times. Great authentic Indian food. It takes you on a trip to India after the first spoon/fork. Going back this Saturday with the entire family.

My best friend introduced me to this restaurant, the food is so good and great service. I recommend the bawarchi prawn special goes with naan bread.

We impulsively went to dine here for lunch and as soon as I walked in I was served and offered a table. I got water as I waited for my partner to arrive and after we ordered, the waitress repeated it back to make sure it was correct. She also helped us out with what was in the dishes. <br/><br/>When the food came I was amazed by the flavours!! The dishes seem small but are super filling and the spices were delicious and perfectly hot enough for us. The garlic naan was the absolute best I've ever had and had generous portions, along with the rice being a great addition. <br/><br/>The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is the amount of bones my partner had in his lamb korma, almost a third of it had a huge bone he had to cut around. <br/><br/>Super good food though, the flavour was fantastic, the price is affordable and we left absolutely stuffed!

So we had The Wika social lunch on the 24/02/2017..bought Bawarchii Chicken Birryanee Meal at $40and Paradise Chicken Birryanee Meal at $35. Bawarrchii definitely packs in beautiful flavors, however their offeriing was rather dry and the rice was a tad on the chewy side. If Bawarchii used the same rice as Paradise they would have a winner. Bawarchii needs to improve upon the Raita they offer , it was watery..really unnapetizing.

Been here more than 5 times here and the quality of food esp non- veg is quite outstanding. Ambience is good with warm welcome from the staff and the refreshing menu makes my carvings satisfied.<br/>Good value for money and an evening spent with friends n good food here made my day..<br/>Will visit again with friends and family.....<br/>

Went for the buffet expecting the sky but it was probably the saddest one. No flavours, service was attrocious, the food was cold and the meat was uncooked. Very very unfortunate.
Biju Surendran
A very Arrogant Owner. I ordered a takeaway away dish and was told will be ready in 20 minutes. After waiting for more than 45 minutes and when checked... the owner comes out and says.. Sorry we are too busy and we haven't even started your dish and we cannot give you an ETA.. I had to take a refund and go to Paradise restaurant and get my food.
Lukas
Wonderfully excellent food, we went for the Prawn chef's special, the chilli garlic curry, garlic naan and mutter rice. Both curries were spot on with the chilli garlic curry being a stand out - essentially being more Indo-Chinese style. It was so incredibly delicious, hot and flavoursome - you could see the bits of garlic all through it and as garlic lovers we were thrilled. <br/><br/>This place is a North Indian restaurant and therefore has a Chinese influence. If you haven't tried Indian like this before it's highly recommended.<br/><br/>The only slight criticism I had was the food took a while, but they did warn us when ordering. <br/><br/>The last comment was the price - being low cost and exceptional value. As this place doesn't serve alcohol it removes the temptation to spend on booze and meant the meal was only $45 for for the two of us and included a mango lassi.

Recently came to Auckland and it was a while since I had biryani. Now having eaten some fantastic biryani in Bangalore, my expectations weren't too great for any place that served biryani here. But, I take that all back and I am happy that I got something close enough to satiate my taste buds.

One of the finest restaurants in sandhigram. The popular dish would be biyarani. <br/>The wait time for food is a bit high. The Restaurent is always crowded and kind of popular. <br/>Been here a couple of time with my Asian friends and they enjoyed the food here. <br/>Although the wait time for the food is high I wouldn't mind because of the taste.<br/>Drawbacks no alcohol and BYO.<br/>You get soft drinks and indian drinks<br/><br/>Tried the buffet for 15 dollars <br/>If you are a meat lover you have limited choice . <br/>I had this lamb dish that was amazing and full of flavours <br/><br/>If you are a vegan this place ain't bad.

Buffet is the best! Simple food at good prices! My fav has to be the schezwan prawns fried rice! Do try it, the quantity is enough for 2 people easily

Have been visiting here quite often the food over here is Tasty. Specially the Biryani and Butter Chicken. Today tried Bell Pepper Chicken The spices in the food was perfect. The service here is friendly. Will definitely visit again

I visit Bawarchi regularly, staff is awesome with great  and friendly service.  I love the food, there is plenty of verity of  food items  i love to eat Bunna ghost, Talawa ghost, kadai ghost and kadai chicken. Chicken and lamb biryani are also very tasty. Buffet is another good option twice a week with verity of food items including dessert. Prices are reasonable with the quantity of the food. <br/><br/>I strongly recommend to try this out....
Gade121
Food is below par. Naan was almost like a soggy card board, curries were OK, not so great. Service was OK. But the music they were playing at the restaurant...terrible, terrible and terrible.
Deen Khan
Best biryani in Auckland. Service is really slow if you want to customize anything or get starters. So unless you want something from the foom warmers or the biryani you will be waiting a while. But is it worth the wait? yes yes it is.
Jolin
This is the 2nd time that I have been to this place and this time we had the buffet dinner. Being an Indian and a Non Vegetarian I thought it was worth the price however there are not many options for those who dont eat meat. I really enjoyed the food however my partner who is not an Indian was teary-eyed since the food was too spicy and there was only one vegan curry that was mild. The desert was the star on the menu. Would also like to mention the employee (Jagadish) who serverd us was very kind and helpful. Would be much better if there were more options in the curry section for those who are not used to having hot and spicy food.
Sakshi Wadhwa
Somehow all my office colleagues are crazy about biryani at this place, but being a vegetarian I had egg biriyani and I was really disappointed. Yes I know I know it's Chicken/mutton/blah blah how can I compare it with egg. But I am reviewing on the beaus of whatever I have had. :)

I LOVED the food at this place- if you've read my other reviews you know this doesn't happen often. They had the best Schezwan noodles in Auckland - with little shrimps, some cabbage, egg and spring onions- perfectly spicy as it should be. My friend had the lamb masala with garlic roti and rice. The masala was really good- the only con was that most of their curries are bone-in which annoys most people but is actually the authentic method in Indian cuisine. Apart from that service was good and prices were very reasonable- I will be back :-)

This is the best place to eat India food in Auckland, Me being an Indian student miss the food of my hometown, and I was very much surprised to hop into this restaurant at Sandringham road. I was amazed by the quality and the quantity of the food at a very cheap rate. I and my 2 mates usually order the family pack Chicken Biryani which is delicious and trust me the quantity is enough for you to eat it twice if 3 people are sharing it. Basically, everything here is tasty, you just need to hop in and try it out! Bon Appétit :)

Best biryani of New Zealand. Other dishes are also very tasty but my favourite is chicken biryani. Must try if you want to have really good food.
Krishna Kumar
Last Sunday we visited Bawarchi for family dinner. When we ordered our curries they mentioned that rice has to be ordered separately as it doesn't come with curry. This was a surprise to us as most of the indian restaurants rice comes with curry. We ordered mutton biryani, charcoal chicken, pepper chicken. Initially when it came out the food smelled nice but when I started eating mutton biryani, it felt like it was a re-heated biryani and not freshly cooked. Also there was so much oil floating on the charcoal chicken that it was almost inedible. To top it off my stomach really got upset from that food. Bad experience from my last visit. :-(

I have been here several times. But still cannot resist to stay away from it. One of the finest biryani makers. Its pleasant experience to have happy helpful and cheerful staff. <br/>Top notch.😄

Bawarchi is one of my favourite place to satisfy my hunger n taste in auckland, they got the eatables which resemble the real spice of india.service is also very nice, last time a young girl named 'Ruchika' helped me to select dishes according to my taste and she served very well.

This restaurant was my regulars for takeaway n dine in. Unfortunately the food quality and service both has gone down so badly that I will never return. Yesterday went for dine in and curry was full of oil and few pieces of chicken. Naan was a disaster it was cold as if cooked and kept for a while. When I informed the waitress simply touched my Naan with her palm and agreed. She went back and in few minutes got same Naan heated up wt a failure coz naans were burnt from the sides. Biryani used to be the best but has gone down to average.<br/>My suggestion if you want to keep your health good please do not visit this place coz I was their customer since the beginning but now owner is just after money as the food quality is not the same. BTW the prices are the same compare to other Indian restaurants when u dine in so Bawarchi you better provide quality the same.<br/>Good luck for their future customers...

Some items of the food were good like the paneer tikka and boti kabab. I expected charcoal chicken to be dry but was a gravy item. The bengali fish was no where near the same as bengali fish but as a fish curry was nice.

Overall experience with Bawarchi has always been good.. The food tastes great, the service is on time and the waiting staff are polite and helpful.. <br/><br/>I regularly visit this restaurant, especially for takeaways.. Highly recommended.. !!

I am writing this review while waiting to pick up an takeaway order. I am totally disaapointed woth the service these guys provide when it comes to take away orders. I ordered my food at 8pm and they said it will be ready for pick up at 8.20.<br/>When I arrived at the restaurant they said i will have wait since there is a big rush. I then see the person in the counter go to the cooking area and then order the food to be prepared. This is very bad this has happened to me second tine now. I think they do this to make sure they dont prepare food before seeing the customer arrive.<br/>Time now is 8.50 and still no food.<br/>

1st time we came here on this friday. Well the 1st thing which attract me most, "Aroma". We've ordered #PaneerButterMasala #DaalTadka #GarlicNaan. After our friday lunch, i can bet that you will never get that much good garlic naan anywhere in NZ. In the menu Every dish has their own taste, own role. Consistensy of spice everything's good.

Very poor quality of chinese food.. ordered Chinese food at this place and what a disappointing experience. The noodles were sticky and manchurian was taste less. The food was full off tomato catchup.... my suggestion for them is to please remove Chinese food from the menu.. I have tried indian food other day and it was much better ..

Food - 5/5<br/>Service - 5/5<br/>Ambiance - 4/5<br/>We were in the St. Lukes area and needed a quick bite. So a friend had liked the "hot and sour soup" and suggested this place. I ordered a lamb coriander with butter naan and a thumbs up - for my full Indian experience.<br/>The food was so spicy, with tears in my eyes I still gobbled it all up - it was delicious!! The ambiance was so-so.<br/>The service was adorable - the girls were really efficient even though they were rather busy.<br/>Oh and the price was sooo reasonable !!! <br/><br/>I am going back again when I crave curry.

Food : average <br/>Price : Competitive<br/>Quality: average<br/><br/>I have tried almost all the dishes but its not as good as others indian restra. Only plus is that the service time is low.

Went with my good friends after waiting for a long time. Quiet a few of my mates recommended this to me but did not get chance. We ordered Mutton Bhuna, Chicken Biryani, Rotis, chicken tawa masala and Veg Pulao. Food was awesome, every item was different and lip smacking. Easy on pocket too. Would definitely try again. Recommended to all.

Being an Indian my quest for authentic Indian food always was on since i moved to Auckland. Well it ends with the Lamb Biryani at Bawarchi. Very nice and authentic.

I had very bad experience with Bawarchi Takeaway. When I called to enquire about takeaway they told me that they have different menu for takeaways and while asking about what is included, person over the phone got confused and put me on hold for 5mins and then told me that he is busy with other customers and told me to call later. Whole experience over the phone was pathetic. Then I thought to go directly and there I ordered butter chicken, paneer butter masala and Chicken 65 but what they gave me was only WATERY Curry Sauce with 2-3 pieces of chicken and paneer. And I throw away chicken 65 because it was so hard to chew and was not fresh. My experience was so horrible and I am not going to go there again. To compare Paradise with this place is a Shame!

We had been here for many times, if we are peckish the first thing straightly comes in to our mind is Bawarchi.  we tried here tandoori chicken  with salad on the side and some lime juice for topping this was the mouth melting dish with its flavour. Even the chicken biryani and garlic gaans are good comparatively better than Paradise. And their biryani is very good apart from all of the Indian restaurants. I will definitely be  keep going to this place.

We came here tonight as our local Indian restaurant was extremely busy. As we read the menu, we were impressed with the variety of dishes listed. We ordered the chicken 65, palak paneer, mutton biriyani and 2 butter naans. We both enjoyed the 65 but soon became quite sick of it as it was extremely salty. We then realised everything we had ordered was way too salty. By the end of our meal we had a lot of food left over... It's nice to explore restaurants nearby our local, but we probably won't be back.

A great place to dine in if you priorities taste over decor- best biriyani so far I had had in NZ. I went there a couple of months ago when a buffet deal was going on- not sure if it's still on or not- and I got 2 types of biriyani, 2 types of curry, vegetables, naans, raita, salads, and desserts for only $16!!! And that taste!!! Ohhh marvellous! Their service is really quick, staff are friendly and professional. Who minds the decor if you get to have really delicious food in such price!

Terrible experience, terrible food. Used to be a regular and used to bring all my friends. Ordered chilli chicken, sezuahn prawn egg noodles and mutton biriyani. <br/>Gave all the food except the biriyani when asked they replied " should we serve it now ", clearly it seemed they forgot. <br/>The biriyani came cold and dry. <br/>Didn't even gave the complimentary snacks which they always give.<br/>Definitely not the best biriyani in auckland any more. <br/>Never coming back again. <br/>

I have catered from Bawarchi a few times and have always gotten the best service and food. My friends love their Afghani Chicken, Duhdi Dal. The owners take personal pride and are always ready to give constructive suggestions even if it means telling you they don't want to serve something for you because hey know I and my guest won't like it.<br/><br/>Eating at Bawarchi Buffet has been a good experience also bit find the food abit too spicy for my taste, so I stick with Ala Carte Menu. Keep up the good work!

i just bought chicken tawa masala takeaway.when i open the box to eat  at home all i found was curry and hardly any chicken pieces  in it and wasnt as good as it usually is.lack of seasoning and flavour was missing.i saw lots of people waiting for food today and i had to wait quite a bit for my order which wasnt an issue.but being busy doesnt means you can crappy food.i often go for my food at bawarchi but this was disappointing.

Have been here a number of times with friends and family. <br/>Not a great place for a big group as the dining area is all cramped up, but you will forget about this as soon as you try their food.<br/>A must try- lamb pepper dry, charcoal chicken and biryani. <br/>I have always been a fan of biryani, and for last few months bawarchi has been upping its game. I can say that they are becoming as good as, rather, better than paradise..<br/>Service is great, considering the space.. <br/>Ambience- ok..<br/>Overall- 4, based on the fact that I go here alot and food has always been good.

Horriblest experiences #1 order for a veg biryani on christmas eve at time of pick up say we never ordered, had to wait a hour after. #2 we tried for second time, this time order for takeaways 2 x veg dum biryani. The plastic box filled with curd raita was half opened and packet being completely drenched with the other half raita spilled inside plastic bag when preparing ourselves for dinner. I called up the takeaway the guy there on phone was trying to redeem their goof up but after 5 mins of conversation Mr. Mohammed Raqeem owner of bawarchi is so rude starts threatening on the phone being very obnoxious never can expect such words from an owner of a reputed restaurant/takeaway that they claim to be. I am very overwhelmed with this type of behaviour never ever will go back and also suggest any customer to revisit. Will prefer Paradise anytime a 100 times never had any difference and any issue.....

Another Sunday Curry night and therefore a venture to the curry central area of the city... Decided to try this place as an alternative to Paradise for a change. I've heard a variety of reviews about this establishment from professional reviews in the press to friend and looking at reviews on this site so decided to try it out...<br/><br/>The atmosphere tonight was ok but obviously less of the hustle and bustle of the other place just a few shops down. The aroma from the place was great which made the expectations rise.<br/><br/>The order was the kiwi standard butter chicken, which was cooked with a good degree of heat and spice and therefore comparable to the rest <br/><br/>The thing I did appreciate was the ability to do half and half curries which just meant that we could have a larger variety of food from the warming cabinet. Therefore had a mixture of the chicken 65 again well made with a good combination of spiciness and heat, the chicken pepper which had a decent kick to it but not overpowering.  There was a slight greasiness to the curry dish duly noted in another reviewer's opinion as well and I do note the reply by the establishment in their defence so in this instance would give them the benefit of their reasoning<br/><br/>For vegetarian versions the dhal and spinach curry both of which were a great fusion of subtle spices making the meal quite delightful. The butter naans were made to order and in my opinion better than their competitors<br/><br/>I did note while waiting that there was a poster on the wall declaring their chicken biryani the best in Auckland for the year in some local competition.... therefore a must try at another time<br/><br/>Overall a satisfactory meal, worth another look for trying out the other dishes available
Vishal Dhada
ordered Chicken tikka for takeaway, it was just boiled chicken with the tikka masala n top of Chicken, not at all grilled chicken.. I will never visit this place again

I ordered take out here. Firstly, the aroma of the food is overwhelming...in a good way. The minute I parked my car, I knew I had to buy what I was smelling. I ordered the chicken lollipop and the chilli chicken. Both quite tasty. While what I ordered was good, a lot of the take-out food on display looked very greasy. I'd really recommend them to slow down with the oil.

Heard so much about this place, so decided to give their biryani a try. We ordered 2 chicken biryanis and garlic cheese naan for take away. The guy on the phone was friendly, said it would be 10-15 minutes. When we picked up the food and got home, the biryani was cold, not fridge cold but not warm either, obviously it had just been sitting at room temperature. The yoghurt dip went all over the bag because they had not closed it properly. We asked for one medium and one hot, we got two boxes unlabelled and tastes exactly the same!!! Dont think i will be going back there again, their rival's (biryani) paradise is surely way bettter!

Wnt there to get sme takeaways yestrday. Man! The guy @ d counter took ages to serve the customer infront of me. But i waited hopefully in the line. The most embarassing thing was that he then asked the lady behind me to place her order as she was standing to the side . I got pissed n told the guy tat i got tre frst n hv been waiting tis long..n he ws lik ya jus wait..f**k tat !i walkd away<br/> n gt ma stuff frm paradise takeaway..evn if tey r busy tey hv a gud custmr service which i tnk u people should teach ur crew rather tan claiming u guys hv d bst food lol

i got some food from this place and it was way too hott. everything from biryani to chicken lolly pop had chilli in it. not sure what these guys are selling. probably trying to give the neighbour a run for his money. i had 3 couples who complained about the food and all three have lived her for over 15 years now. rubbish food. go to paradise instead or top in town

Had this for Dinner last week, one of the best birayani I've tasted in Auckland. I've tried a few places and this is my favourite to date. Will visit again, but will have to grab it for dinner as a couple of other reviews mention not to go here for lunch!

************** AVOID VISITING FOR LUNCH, AS THESE PPL SERVE PREVIOUS DAY's LEFT OVER FOR LUNCH************<br/>I  visited twice before during dinner time and had good experience. The Biryani served is good and hot.<br/><br/>However, I Had experience when I had food on 12th October 2015 . Went for Lunch and Ordered Chicken Biryani. I bet its the left over biryani of the previous day.<br/><br/>I have said the same to the people in the restaurant, and they are adamant saying they would serve the same even if its replaced.<br/><br/>I could easily figure out the pieces in the biryani and the rice its like fried rice, because of reheating the leftover food of the previous day night. <br/><br/>I am the first customer. If biryani is ready by 11:30A.M, I dont understand why it takes 20 minutes to bring it to the table. The Biryani will be in Hundi and all the pieces of the biryani would be in the bottom of the hundi and would be properly boiled. And also the concerned person says he need to put it in microwave owen for 30 seconds. <br/><br/>The logic I dont understand is , when its closed air-tight, and its not served to any other customer [ as I am the first one to order], why would the biryani served be so mild and pieces as if they are reheated frozen pieces of the previous day.<br/><br/>So my advice better avoid visiting this place for lunch on monday, saturday and sunday ,especially where the day before there is good business for these restaurants, as anything leftover previous day will be served to the customers in the lunch.<br/><br/>Pathetic Experience........... I decided not to visit this restaurant again.

Odered  their grill platter arabic style & tandoori style for starter..<br/>Fantastic. .<br/>Chicken biryani for main.. excellent...<br/>Must say their food is very tasty & well balanced spices...<br/>Service has room for improvement....

Food is great no doubt. A customer service is need to be focused a lot. I have seen people walking out after waiting for too long to get served from front staff. I have had best chicken dishes and biryanis there. My Bangladeshi friend told me about that place so did visit with my whole family but I was so embarrassed with their customer service as they take too long to come to you and some guys at the front end don't even bother to ask whether we have been looked after by someone or not. I think chef has given great justice to their dishes so for now front staff needs to give justice to their chef. If this improves, you will have 5 stars for sure.

The best naan I have had in my life!!! Bheija fry and Chicken Tawa were delicious!! Went on Friday, loved it so much that I went with my family on Saturday!!

Went for late lunch today at Bawarchi. its a great alternative to it's neighbour rivalry, Paradise. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan and rice. It was partially my fault that I did not specified the spicy level of the curry, which ended up being too hot for my liking (sweating after first few bites). I politely asked the waiter to change my order to Butter Chicken mild, which he was quite happily to accommodate. My Butter Chicken was perfect, not greasy or feel too heavily thick and creamy, the chicken was nicely cooked and clean, not fatty. The garlic naan was delicious and crisp, not doughy, very flavourful. The rice was nice and fragrant. I walked away satisfied.

The service we experienced here was abysmal. We phoned our takeaway order through and arrived to collect it at the time we were told it would be ready. Ten minutes later and after having paid for our order we were told they couldn't make one of the dishes we'd ordered because it needed to marinade for 24 hours. This would have been useful to know when we'd phoned and ordered. After a 45 minute wait we finally left with our two dishes, which were average. Worse than the wait was the way the staff managed our ordeal. The upside was they refunded us for the dish we'd initially ordered which nearly covered the bottle of wine required to recover from our faux pas. Should never have deviated from Paradise.

I Rate this a complete 5. Hands down the only place which will give you this quality food at this price. The mutton Biryani is my husband's favourite where I love the Acharia chicken the most.We get takeaways from Bawarchi all the time cause of convenience and affordability. <br/>Not a big fan of dine in- it needs some work but it's a Go to place for Indian Takeaways.
Jay
Went for a Monday night buffet dinner. The decor needs a lot of work. Upstairs is extremely claustrophobic with those red drapes. Pricing is decent. Food is average at best. Good flavors in the curries but you gotto provide bowls for curry guys. Come on. Our curry was In the plate and nan bread on top and it was just not a food way to eat. Chicken Biryani was nice. Chicken tikka was spicy, so nice. The daal tadka was the best of the lot. Excellent flavour. Lamb curry was average at best. The dessert was Safran n pineapple sheera or something didn't even touch it cause of the color. Place has potential but gotto get the basics right

My partner and I ordered takeaways for the first time a couple of nights ago. I was very happy with with everything we ordered. I will definitely be back to try more from the menu.

Pretty good food but briyani was outrageously spicy. Also, the restaurant was pretty crowded when we went in.

Yesterday i got a chance to eat in this outlet.i ordered veg hakka noodles along with chiken tikka masala. Both were very good in taste and specially chicken tikka masala was very delicious.👍

Went there last year to try something in the area that was NOT Paradise but got severely burnt. The food was horrible then and so was the service. Tried it again a few months ago after they renovated. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was great. Ordered Chicken tandoori, Lamb Sheek Kabab, Lamb Biryani, Lamb pepper fry and Naan. All great. Service isn't something to rave about but is okay. Price is quite good for the portion sizes. I have gone back quite a few times since. However, have heard of not so good experiences from some friends. I can only hypothesize that the chefs/cooks work in shifts and it depends on the chef whether you get good or bad food. Also, do not order from the Take Out section. It is mostly empty and the food in the display/bainmarie is dry. Eat in if you want a better experience. So if you are superbly bored of Paradise like I was, definitely give this place a try. Don't know Paradise? Give Bawarchi a try. I recommend it to my friends and acquaintances.
I'm Hungry
This place is by far one of the best indian food iv had in auckland. The biryanis and currys are just too authentic mughlai indian but the even the veg dishes like palak paneer are very good. The bawarchi spl fish masala is best dish by far, a must order and I can gurantee you that you will keep coming to this restaurant. Other highlights pepper prawn (fingerlicking good) andhra chicken, chicken 65, tangy chicken and egg/chicken/mutton biryani is the best in Auckland surely.

We've all had that horrific experience at a restaurant that we all share with others and every time we recall that moment u feel sick to the stomach. I had one of them at this place quite recently.<br/><br/>I take the blame to force my friends to give bawarchi a try over paradise since we frequent there a lot - WHY O WHY!! The place is not presented well. Bad paint job and food in bain marie since gods when.<br/><br/>We ordered excessively as always. I'll start from the best:<br/><br/>Lamb Nihari - decent flavour but too oily but still defo the pick of the lot.<br/>Bheja Fry - this is a delicacy from Mumbai that I had never tried and was recommended. Its like scrambled eggs made with goat brains instead of eggs and spicy like a burji (indian scrambled eggs). This one was too spicy for anyone's liking though!<br/>Naan - its a naan u cant do much wrong with it.<br/>Lamb biryani was selective pieces of lamb in spicy rice. No flavour or kick just rice and lamb pieces. We finished the lamb pieces quickly and the rice was enough to feed 8 as it was a family pack. Worst part It had a disgusting hair in it too. Utterly Disgusting!!<br/>We were given a complimentary dessert which was some orange stuff that was equally bad. It looked like crushed motichur ladoo and tasted like cough medicine. Yuck!!<br/><br/>PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AND GO DOWN THE ROAD TO PARADISE. There is a reason why that place does much better than here.<br/><br/><br/><br/>
Swati Mall
Pathetic food!! Got the kali mirch chicken turned out to be the worst chicken curry I've ever had. Never coming here again. Very low standard and poor quality food. Won't even feed the dogs with such food.
Asif Rahman
On my first visit, i was very disappointed as we were served a very hot dish, which we did not order, the person on the next table ordered the same dish, we wanted medium and they wanted hot. so what they did, cooked the dish together ans served us the same.<br/>after few month i visited their takeaway and tried their Chicken Biryaani, i was surprised to find it really tasty and to my liking.<br/><br/>looking forward to and visit this place again or simply go for a takeaway.
EssJay
Bought some Chicken Biriyani and Chicken 65, to my surprise it was better than Paradise Takeaway! <br/>I'll start buying from here and post some more reviews.<br/><br/>The place is clean, interior design could be better but food was great.
Mani
For a quick and tolerable takeaway this one rates tops. As a connoisseur of spicy lamb's brain dishes, again, tops.<br/>Biryani is way better than most others served around Auckland; it is also consistently good quality.
Vaidyanathan Balasubramanian
Second best biriyani joint in all of New Zealand. We had a buffet dinner once with family and I felt the food was not on par with paradise which is just down the road. Maybe a bit harsh but having grown up being served the best biriyani i would justify my verdict. ?
Lydia SCL
Good service from attentive, friendly staff. Been here twice. Delicious and flavorful food. Biryani is a must have for me. Would love to try their lunch offers

Very nice food here...like the buffet on Mon nights...alcohol free zone....the rice pudding is great. Good cheap eating and nice staff....do try it, if any of the other places nearby are full...

Been here with family recently (only because one of the other restaurants had no seating available). Ordered some.Indo-Chinese cuisine... Surprisingly was served Raita(yoghurt) with it. Fried rice was actually Pepper rice,Manchurian was nice, but had loads of Soy sauce. Ok for one time...may be good for a quick bite

Food is amazing, Indian and Indo Chinese. cheap price food 10/10  on the food love the food. After a good dinner one can forgive anybody can be happen after having food at bawarchi.

Great restaurant for Authentic Indian food. Good for taste, affordable, and poor ambiance. Tip: Dinner Buffet on Tuesday and Wednesday is too bad.

Visited Bawarchi after hearing a lot good about them. It was a family dinner for us and we enjoyed their dishes as they were in their perfect form. Thumbs up to their presentation, service, taste of dishes, and of course price. <br/><br/>I'd sure recommend them to all and would love to visit Bawarchi again and again.
Restaurateur
I am a regular at Bawarchi and routinely sample their delicious curries ranging from chicken 65, chicken manchurian, and chilli chicken. Chilli chicken is true to its name and has that spicy hot kick which is what you would expect from Indian food. The flavour profiles of the curries scream authentic Indian and these guys are very bold with their use of spices, which is what authentic Indian food should be like. <br/><br/>So if you are after an authentic Indian curry for a reasonable price and friendly service to go with it then Bawarchi is the place for you.
Meghana
Me and My mum came on a Monday and were delighted to know that there was a buffet special. Waiter was very nice. The food was delicious being a vegetarian i enjoyed the Naan bread and loved the Dal Tadka, Aloo Gobi and Mutter Pulav (green peas rice). I would definitely come back here again.

Amazing biryani.<br/><br/>We ordered the party pack and ate to our heart's content.<br/><br/>Thanks to crowded Paradise I got a chance to try this place.<br/><br/>Have been eating here for the last 3 weekends.<br/><br/>Thumbs up guys. I am sure Paradise is feeling the heat...

Biriyani is out of this world.........takes you back to the nicest places of eating biriyani around India. It is also served with the tastiest mirchi masala salan which compliments the biriyani and added to this some good raita as well. Could not ask for a tastier meal. Personally I preferred the lamb biriyani to the chicken biriyani.<br/>Well done to Aseem and the staff.<br/>Harry.<br/>Papakura

Great Place! Food is amazing. This Guy will give a very very tough competition to paradise takeaway. Why not after all he was the founder of ParadiseTakeaway
Manu Viswan
The best biriyani out there. Go there on mondays and tuesdays for the $16 dinner buffet. Naan, chicken, rice, dessert everything you could ask for. You will be full like never before. Neat and tidy; place for family as well as friends.

We headed here on a rainy week night for a curry. The takeaway has warmer dishes full of curry; they looked OK but I'm not entirely sure about curry kept warm in this fashion - it could have been there for days! We opted to sit in at the newly opened restaurant virtually next door, with ALCOHOL-FREE ZONE proudly emblazoned across the window.<br/><br/>When we walked in, there was none else there. Not even a waiter. But there was a large screen mounted on the wall blaring out the movie Johnny English. Not exactly atmospheric. A waiter finally appeared from the depths of the corridor, seated us & took our order.<br/><br/>We've had the Chicken Tikka Malai as a starter before, and it was just as good this time. Succulent chicken cooked in the tandoor oven with hints of lemon & spices. Funnily enough, it arrived even before our soft drinks!<br/><br/>The mains weren't far off. My partner had gone for the Bhuna Gosht (excuse my memory & spelling!), a lamb dish in a dry-ish tomato & onion gravy. Our taciturn waiter had told us he couldn't do that dish with only mild heat, so we had opted for medium. It was delicious, but strangely only mildly hot in terms of chilli.<br/><br/>Our other dish was Achari Chicken, advertised with an almond gravy & fried pickle garnish. Because our other dish was supposedly going to be medium, we asked for this dish to be mild. And it was HOT! There was a whole chilli in the sauce that we quickly removed, but the heat was fierce. And no pickle garnish....in fact, I'm not sure it was even the right dish. It was hard to taste the flavours through the heat of the curry.<br/><br/>We'd previously asked for the dulcet tones of Rowan Atkinson to be lowered a bit while we were eating (being the only folks in the restaurant), and this was quickly replaced by horrendous banging from what I assume was the kitchen; it sounded like a beast was being butchered out the back! Soon after our waiter disappeared again for long periods of time, and gales of laughter & Indian singing regaled us down the corridor. A totally odd dining experience.<br/><br/>The curries were pretty authentic tasting, in my opinion, but I think they may have made a mistake with the "mild" & "medium" heats. Our waiter didn't seem that interested when we mentioned it as we paid our bill, but then again, he hadn't been interested in much all night bar his mobile phone & disappearing out the back mysteriously.<br/><br/>I'd probably go back to Bawarchi, but I'd definitely get a takeaway, and definitely ask for MILD curry next time.
Kashif Quadri
Great food, a place you must eat at! They have plenty of space with variety of mouth watering dishes. An eat out that cannot be missed :)
Kiwi Food Wonders
There's not much that beats a Sunday night curry. So when the Scotsman suggested we check out another curry house in Sandringham, I jumped at the chance. And I wasn't disappointed.<br/><br/>Bawarchi has been operating as a takeaway for some time, and has now opened a dine-in restaurant as well. We opted for takeaway this time, ordering Chicken Malai Tikka from the Tandoor oven to start, followed by my favourite boring old butter chicken, and the Scot's more adventurous Lamb Kadai Gosh, a spicy lamb dish with capsicums, onions & a thick gravy.<br/><br/>The Malai Tikka was divine; the moist chicken infused with the smokey tandoori flavours & served on a bed of cabbage & carrots. It was definitely a generous-sized entree. My butter chicken was deliciously indulgent, if slightly too sweet on the palate. The Kadai Gosh had large chunks of lamb with the bones in, adding a real depth of flavour. There was even bone marrow to suck out! It was a spicy dish, but very tasty.<br/><br/>The accompanying rice was cooked beautifully, but the huge garlic naan we ordered was slightly too burnt around the edges & a bit tough.<br/><br/>Bawarchi has an extensive menu, venturing into Indo-Chinese as well as Mughlai & Biryani. There's lots on offer for vegetarians, and it's definitely worth a visit if you like your curry with more than a hint of real Indian spice.<br/><br/>If you liked this review, check out more like it at: http://kiwifoodwonders.com

Bawarchi is a staple restaurant for me and the kids. On Mon/Tues the buffet is amazing in value and breadth of dishes. they excel at rich, vibrant flavour palettes usually expertly cooked and varied. my favourite is Lamb Rogan josh which is warm and sweet with on-the bone pieces, tender as you like with unctuous marrow to such through the bones. The service is great. the guys are friendly but discreet: they don't pester you, simply assist. Biryani is great too...Finish off with a bowl of hot (or my fav, cold custardy kheer with almonds and cardamom. The take away is top-notch. I am aiming to try some Saturday brunch meals which use offal...I'll report back when I do. Get in there!
