Review La Couronne Cake Boutique - Auckland Central

Mauricio Kimura
Visited this boutique cake store in Auckland and was blown away by their selection of Asian-inspired cakes. Each slice was a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. The Japanese cheese cake was divine. Highly recommend for anyone looking to satisfy their sweet tooth with a unique twist

Update 5/23 very amazing Asian cakes done perfectly with delicious cream!! The largest Chinese bakery I've been to, with a well presented and large variety of breads and goods that my eyes have ever laid upon. The place also smells sweet and carries that authentic Chinese bread smell (if u know, know). Slightly pricey for the portion but definitely a treat yourself moment. They have a wide range of items, all so beautiful and so many taro goodies to choose from!! Ahhh taro paradise. Got a salted matcha red bean, motley taro, taro q polo, taro Filipino (see a slight trend?), green tea choconut. Would love to try their moon cakes next time! And from staff recommendations the Boston milky and savory pork flake bun/roll (which I didn't get since I've had them before from other stores). Speaking of staff, they were super friendly and helpful!! I got an egg tart too (heard good things!). Total came to be 7 items for 27.20, not as bad as I thought, and with such unique items I'm happy to pay the price. Quality wise let's find out. The egg tart had the thickest crust I've ever had, and I kind of liked that, normally used to flaky crusts but I did enjoy the different texture of this. The egg filling was tasty and a good portion. Wasn't too sweet, too eggy or liquid-y. Best I've ever had though? Nah, these are still similar to ones I've had at other bakeries and at yum cha! 3/5 since it didn't quite live up to hype. Salted matcha red bean-a new product, has a faint matcha flavor with red bean swirled throughout. Not bad, but would like a bit more red bean to bring out the flavor. Soft bread, but does not quite melt in the mouth. Did enjoy the matcha essence paired with red bean though! 3/5 Motley taro has a hard doughy swirl layer which was just soft bread, but a generous sweet taro filling which made up for the doughy bread. 3/5 Taro q polo, similar to motley with the same bread taste and filling expect that it had an additional slightly crusted surface. It was slightly crusty but not so much that it brought another interesting texture to the bread. Could've had potential though. Liked more than motley. 3.2/5 Taro Filipino was described to me as a thicker bread, and they were not wrong. However he bread taste has a bit more of a slight hint of cheese (perhaps?) that made it differ slightly from the other soft breads. 3/5 Green tea choconut bread was a bit staler compared to the others, but was made interesting by the green tea layer which was slightly crunchy. The redeeming feature was the choconut filling which was very airy and moussey, sweet and enhanced the bread. 3.5/5 Boston milky describes as slightly cheesecake-y, I didn't know what to expect as to me it looked like a dense boring sponge. Instead I was greeted with a soft bread and a well rationed creamy and sweet yet ever so slightly cheesy filling. Not bad but again, not wowed, it did have the softest bread though. 3.5/5 Would I go again? If I'm really craving Chinese bakery goods then yes, to try more of their items, but otherwise I would probably check out other just as large Chinese bakeries!

We ordered Taro and Tiramisu cakes and both were delicious. The Tiramisu tastes even better after couple of days.

Lovely customer service, cute store with yummy cakes and drinks. Milk tea was a bit sweet but overall everything was good. Will definitely come back many times.

Enjoyed the Taro Bubble Milk today. It’s such a cute, well designed and well presented cake shop with a wide variety of appetising pastries. Super kind and friendly service. Will visit again for sure. Recommended!

I been there to buy a birthday cake for my hubby and was so friendly staff help me. She help to got the cake quicker than what is supposed to. I need urgently and she really help me out, so I don't need to wait for few hours to get the cake done. Price is a bit expensive then the regular small cake but I think it's worth it with the service and taste.. Also they have so many kinds of buns or 'ready to go' bread for such a good price. Definitely will come by again..

I ventured into Asian specialty patisserie, La Couronne in CBD, to peruse the various beautiful baked goods. Staff was very friendly and the shop layout was so beautiful so I ended up buying a durian cheese cake and coconut custard bun. All cakes and sweets are plastic wrapped for freshness and my purchases were lovely, delicate and delicious. If you like Asian gateaux or sweet slices and buns, this is your place!
Deanna
Great selection of sweet and savory bread and pastries. Everything looks very cute and appetizing! Lots of variety to choose from. Today my choice was oreo bread and Boston cream bread. I am very excited to try.

Amazingly delicious moon cake box!!! From time to time whenever I am in town I will go La Couronne buying some breads and deserts home. I can easily taste of Taiwanese flavor from the way they make the products. I got the moon cake box from one of my colleagues. Immediately I ate half of the box simply because they were 😋 tasty. Love Love Love

Had a great tiramisu coffee and friendly service! I would definitely come back.

Heaps of flavoured bake goods and variety of tasty treats. Very colourful display and nice touch of girly pink tone to the shop.

Authentic Taiwanese bakery offers traditional Taiwanese bread at decent price. Highly recommend.

Stunning bread and cakes, tried a bunch of items and they were all very delicious. Soft and moist with reasonable price. Highly recommended! Floss roll, swiss roll cake and boston creme are some of my personal fave

Love love love this place. Definitely recommend to anybody! You say it, they got it. Keep it up La Couronne!

Called and asked for the St Honour as shown on FB, the lady said they have never made any cakes as such description or such name. I asked her to go on their FB page to check what I'm after, she refused to go on FB and said even if she went on the page they still never made such cake~ great one!

一間十分優質的烘焙坊,不管是麵包.蛋糕.糕餅.甜點都十分賞心悅目及美味!

Delicious ! You can't stop on The almond tart , cheesecake and tea time cake

This place is always busy and quite popular with students. It has a cute vibe and is popular on all the lists/blogs. The actual food is kinda average? I am mindful of the fact that the individual portions are fairly cheap so beggars can’t be choosers lol
Dooby DooDoo
Very disappointed, order online for almost 100 bucks the bread was not fresh, like bread had been on for many days, told the shop but wasn’t much response, not even a apologise! Not worth it at all!!
Manz
Rating 4 With a name like La Couronne you might mistaken think it’s a French patisserie, but it’s more a modern Asian bakery. Whatever it is, they do make some very visually pleasing cakes and bread. Taste very nice too, not overly sweet. A good variety. Individually wrapped too.
Jinjing Fang
Cute bakery store located in the CBD. I used to come here when I craved for Chinese style buns and cakes. However, when I compare the price and the flavour with other bakeries in the north shore, this place did not stand out at all. The portion is too small with the range of price. But their display is clean and nice.
Bu K
Quite deceiving to be honest. Bough some buns with fillings - on the outside I thought there would be more filling but when biting into it, I am basically biting a piece of plain bread with some thin fillings. If this is how they normally do it, it’s pretty much a ripped off and not worth the money at all! Their other products are good but avoid the fillings ones!!
The. GIANT. Eater
My favorite cake shop in the city. Love their watermelon cake so so much, which is also the reason why I become their regular customer 😅 keen to try other things as well. The price is a bit on the pricey side but it's understandable for such a bakery right on Lorne st-heart of CBD.

Came by to grab some buns for a shared lunch. We grabbed a few different ones and there were so many to choose from. All sound interesting and tasty. The one I was interested in was the egg yolk bun and the taro one.

Both were slightly disappointing. The filling was very thin and lacked flavour. The bread was nice but without the nice filling, it's just bread.
S J
I kept going around the display tables wondering which one to pick up. Every savoury and sweet items looked so appealing!

It was handy that there's 2 tables for eat in to have a small break time.

I wish there's another branch in the North Shore as well.

I've ordered their cute character cakes for my nephew's birthday, the size and details were definately worth the $$$. Sometimes I treat myself to their peanut butter cream buns/taro buns/madeline/custard pudding cups in their cabinets.
I did try their pizza bun as well but it tastes oily and slightly artificial.
Service is friendly. There are a couple of cute tables inside but service is more designed to be takeaway.
MCP
Always love their bread. I always bought some every time i was in the area- their cakes also yummy! shop is well maintained and clean too. recommend!

i used to come here very often, but haven't been back in awhile.
cute bakery and the staff were always so lovely.
can't exactly remember what i used to buy from here, but everything i had was delicious.

MAN DO I HAVE NO SELF CONTROL
I went in to look for a small snack, like a small bun or so. Left the store with five buns. Damn, they got me. The buns looked too damn delicious. They taste great too! 😻
Von Christian
Bought a cake from them right off the rack for my partner’s birthday. I forgot the name of the cake but it was matcha flavor and it was delicious. Inside the cake was a matcha filling and pudding. I love how they balanced the taste of matcha to not overpower the other flavors in the cake. The staff was super nice!

Cute bakery with all sorts of savoury and sweet Asian breads and desserts. I love the texture of their bread in general, super fluffy and soft.Attractive store front with their kitchen at the back, they have daily specials at the end of the day so you can be assured that their stuff is baked fresh! The service is friendly and helpful.

Their price is cheaper than the average cabinet food you’d get in a cafe but still err more towards the pricier side probably because of its location being in the CBD.

Still a great place to stop by and grab a quick bite or coffee takeaway on a lunch break or after class! :)
CCS
You’ll find all the typical Asian pastries here and Taiwanese pastries like Pineapple Cake. The star are their egg tarts. Best in Auckland I reckon.
Hotdog&Buns
Ok bread. Good cake. Kumara cake yum. I recommend that. The rest just ok. Price maybe ok. Brown sugar cake. Not a fan. Was not authentic. Other stuff. Don't care.

I give Bread 3/5. My English 5/5.
LuNa The TuNa
Nice bread and dessert. Environment always nice and clean. Bread all soft and yummy. Pudding and jelly delicious too and price good too. Service ok tho

Bought chocolate brownies here for desserts after friday lunch with office mate.. they have so much things to offer from bread and cake, so many various and tempting things to try 🤤
Tanibee
One of the best cake and bread shop. There's a huge selection and the taste is perfect (not too sweet, not bland). Only downside is they have only small seating area and Note: TAKING PICTURES, NOT ALLOWED. The cakes are sooo cute but sadly, I can't show it to my sister as proof because she thinks I just made it up and showing of.
Slyonthewall
I’m biased here because I adore Chinese bakeries but this one has great variety and the best I’ve found so far in any of the main cities in NZ. They’ve got the classic custard and milk buns, green tea and taro varieties. But so many more that it’s almost too good to be true. When I arrived on a Friday evening one of the bakers was out and telling me about the different varieties.

Everything looks delectable. I bought a taro polo bun and corn and cheese bun. I could have bought way more. If you have a sweet tooth or you like baked goods in general then you should try this place. They have an amazing variety of cakes and cookies that would make great treats for your loved ones. The only thing I’d warn is that you’ll be hard to pressed to walk away with just one item...it’s just not enough!
Fiona Rose
Not that good, ordered birthday cake and it was overpriced and didn't taste very good, as there was so much food colouring in the icing and the cake itself wasn't that great either, I felt very ripped off. Plus the service here isn't that great either
Donna
This is the best place to get all sorts of bread if you’re looking for a nice snack. They sell savoury and sweet flavoured breads and they also sell desserts. Come around closing time to get 5 breads for the price of 4. Honestly love this place.
Its Me
Personally think this is the best Asian bakery with no comparable competitioner Not for the taste of what they make here (although everything I had it here had been great) but their location , hours, prices and how the offer million diff types of whatever. Seems like other Asian bakeries around Auckland has no capacity or enough customers do what they do here but hopefully soon
Gayatrisawe
Absolutely love the watermelon cake! Amazingly soft Swiss roll which melts in ur mouth. An absolute cloud of goodness. The Japanese cheesecake is also quite good. Amazing texture with the subtle cheese flavour.
Louise
I come here so often to get bread, it’s especially worth it when I use my Uni Club membership card (TANSA) otherwise if you go at the end of the day, there usually is also discount if you buy X number of breads.
Their breads are definitely more creative than most Asian bakeries in terms of design. It’s definitely more pricey than other ones.
The only problem is, I’ve noticed they have some cake things sitting on the right hand side of the store, these things have things to get the food, however are ALWAYS open. Therefore bugs and dust etc can get onto it. - I actively avoid this area cause I’m not sure what’s been on it/if anyone’s sneezed on it etc 😢
Tina Yu
Old classic, been coming here since I was in Uni (ahh its been 8 years wew) Excellent range, decent pricing, especially when you come during the later hours and get the buy 3 get one free deal. Tasty tasty buns :D
Rosanne Choy
Came in for morning tea with a friend. Thought the cheese tart was warm but it turned out it was cold. Bread had. a soft fluffy texture to it. Cakes were delicious. I liked the brownie slice and the watermelon one tatsed quite interesting. Would recommend trying the cheesecake though. This one wasn't as light as the Japanese ones or as dense as the European ones.
Diogo Reck
One of my favourites Asian bakeries in Auckland. they have an extensive variety of savoury and sweet options, well presented and tasty.

Price is quite fair, specially considering location and quality of food.
Dxlche
One of my absolute favourite Asian bakeries. I find that their variety is better than most bakeries and they have some interesting flavours for their buns. I love their chocolate one, which can be seen in the back left hand side of my photo.
Around 5pm or so they do a buy 4 get 1 free which is such a good deal but I had to stop going because I was getting fat from all the baked goods.
I’ve been going here for years now and the flavour always remains the same and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
I’ve also gotten their cakes before which are absolutely delicious. A bit pricey but I think most bakery cakes are around that price. It was over $50 but I don’t remember the exact amount.
The family that owns it is pretty friendly. Overall good service.
Jeffie
We ordered a hello kitty for my friend's daughter's birthday and it did not disappointment. She was so happy with it, as it did look great and on top of that it tasted great as well. Another one of my favourite bakeries, service is also nice.
Thom
One of the most trustworthy Asian bakeries in the cbd. Overall not one of the best in Auckland.
Great thing is they offer a vastly wide range of selections from so many buns to good pastries. Their cakes are pretty good too, of course everything comes with a cbd price.
They do honest business where their buns are fresh everyday! And so in late afternoon they offer buy 4 get 1 free and if stocks allow just before they close this changes to buy 1 get 1 free.
Lo9ve3r 4s
Asked what they would recommend for me to try and they said the taro cake. It was just average, a bit tasteless and overpriced. Putting more labels on their desserts would be helpful so people know what's what.
Watt
For some reason other reviewers love this place, personally I found it overpriced compared to other similar cakeries/bakeries. The taste just didn't live up to the price :/ bread was small and tasted a bit... hollow? Not sure the right word to use. There wasn't much sustenance to it, and after eating a pineapple bun I felt like I hadn't eaten anything.

Disappointing to say the least. I prefer Rio, or Young's bakery at north shore, even Tasti is better than this.
Sunema Tuifao
Wasn't as much variety as there was the other day, probably because it was the end of the day. But loved the taro swirl cake, watermelon cake and the taro bread! 😊 Great little cakery/bakery store, my daughter definitely enjoyed herself. Can't wait for our next visit. 👍
Alyssa Martin
Excellent selection of Asian breads, buns, pastries and desserts. Every single things was just right, not too sweet or too rich. Their tarts and macaroons are a must try!
Bella Luv Food
Every cake from this place is tasty. Sometimes they have buy 3 get 1 free deal which I enjoyed. Recommended japanese cheese cake, egg tart and milk pudding 👍🏻
Michelle Chua
My favourite bakery shop in Auckland central! I love their buy 4 get 1 free deals all the time! I get to grab all my favourite buns! Hahahahah
Really nice locAtion . Seldom dine in for drinks but it's more of a takeaway kind of feel.
Normally would get my morning hot chocolate from them during winter! It's nice :)
Courtney O'Connor
Cutest cakery - huge range of soft cakes and pastrys and savoury breads, you dont know what to choose. Cakes come in the most visually pleasing and easy to carry boxes with perfect plastic cake knives and long candles. A+ will visit again, and again!
Jade0289
This Asian style bakery has a wide range of bread, cake & cookies. And all of them are delicious!
My favorite is their nuts tart! So crispy& crunchy!
They also sell coffee and some other drinks, but I can see that not many people purchase them.
If there could have more seats available, I think people will willing to grab some drink& food to dine in.
LilMSunshine
The store is quite big for a dessert/pastry shop. Small area for dine in and the rest are tables full of pastries or slices. Wide assortment of either sweet and savory desserts. I am so overwhelmed that you would want to try ALL of them. Reasonable price and great location for busy foot traffic and service was prompt. I got some savory desserts and a pastry that contains salted eggs inside (egg tart). I highly recommend this place! Would come back to try some more....
Misty
Mango cake tasted pretty good. Nice box packaging which is easy to carry, and they also give you a plastic cake knife and mini plates and forks.
R.T
We got a few breads and some custard puffs. They are too sweet then other asian breads. Also I feel more expensive maybe because of location?. This shop staff never smile. When I paid, they never say thank you. What's wrong with them? There are many Asian bread shops (if you prefer sweet breads) in AKL, I don't have to come here.

I preferred my local bakery " Young Bakery" or " Mr. Bread" in North Shore. Their price is OK, friendly service.
Walter Wong
Wouldn't recommend buying a cake here. They can't do a small thing properly. The look is okay, taste is average and asked them to write traditional chinese they write simplified chinese. Overall experience is pretty bad.
Mari Flores
If you’re looking for a quick sweet pick up on a busy day? Be sure to check out La Courrone. Its one of my favourite dessert cafes within the city. They have a great selection of breads and pastries. Everything a sweet tooth could ever ask for. The service is great and the staff are very helpful. Ambience is great as well although there are limited seats so its more of a quick coffee and go. One of my favourite cakes has to be the Tiramisu and the Mango cake.
Arushi Thapar
Are you a dessert lover? Then this one's a must visit!
As soon as you enter this place, it gives you such a nice vibe seeing all the colours around. It takes one extra point straight away for the presentation and the way they've kept the place.
There are so many options out there that you're unable to pick one.
I tried the snowy lemon and loved it.
Plan to visit again soon!
Polash Shariful Hasan
Lovely atmosphere inside. Went there for the first time. Its really colourful lots of items there. Almond boat was awesome. Tried 2 bread taro bread and coconut one. Perfect for sweet tooth.
Ashlene Cheryl Cardoza
HUGE variety. There are some weird flavour combos in there, but everything seems to work. Its reasonably priced and quite good for a quick snack or sweet treat. I've ordered birthday cakes from here as well and they are quite good.
Elle
Great cake shop with delicious treats! They make the best egg tarts!! These sell out quick! Alongside their delicious variety of freskly baked (and packed) breads each morning they have amazing little shortbread biscuits! The almond cocoa is super yummy with some tea! The matcha pudding is delicious! Such a treat! Their ham, garlic and cheese bread is the best!
Jasmine Goh
The bread is all very good :) The bread and cheese tart is all so soft. Its abit pricey but i think its very worth it. Will definitely go there again and get the bread and cakes.
Kaash
Love this place - reasonably priced & really good dessert every time I visit. Wish they would bring back their little pancake cakes though!
They're even open later so you can get your dessert fix in the evenings.
Kathryn Zhou
The moment I walked in, I knew I was in trouble. With the vast variety of breads there were, I wanted to try every one of them. But in the end, I picked 5. The Kumara one (not shown in photo because I gobbled it up), a polo milk bread, 2 taro flavoured breads and he mango cheesecake bread.

Out of all of them, my favourites were the kumara bread (super under rated), the fluffier taro bread- the flat taro bread was harder and lacked flavour and the mango cheese bread- the texture was like clouds! I will definitely be back for more :)
Deen Khan
This place has the best Portuguese egg tarts you can find in Auckland. But they do run out so if you really want them it is best to call ahead and check. Have tried a few other things and they are a bit hit and miss but its always interesting to see the other selections. All reasonably priced for the location
Lovely Maralit
I love their cakes! The lady was so hospitable as I was buying last minute birthday cake and they offered to write on it. My friends thought the cake was delicious. I've also been here to try their other sweet treats.
Stango
Its hard to walk past La Couronne bakery without buying anything. So many cute cakes and enticing snacks. My favourite reason for visiting is their individual-serve packaging - not having to buy a whole cake or loaf of bread etc just to get my carb fix is a great thing. I love this place and it still remains to be one of my long time favourites since uni.
Tavita Milford
They have the most weirdly but delicious bakes there. Ordered a taro bun (I think it was called) and it tasted so good. Coming from an islander who eats actual taro as a substitute to bread, I'll never look at taro the same again.
Marcella
Not your average asian bakery. This place has a huge variety of breads, pastries and cakes. Came here the other day and tried their custard bun and taro bun. The taro didn't have as much filling but thhe custard was overflowing with filling which is great. The custard I found was too sweet though.

Next time I'm coming back to try their desserts and cakes :)

May I.
I have been frequenting this bakery on high street for a couple weeks now for their custard buns. But yesterday I needed a cake for a bday and it was delicious, and very pretty! Will be getting my cakes here from now on.
Ati
I'm definitely a huge fan of La Couronne. I've been coming here for a couple of years and I won't be stopping anytime soon. As a huge bread fiend, this place is my wonderland! There's such a huge range of bread that you're sure to find far more than just one that takes your fancy. The prices are good and the flavour and quality of the breads in comparison to other bakeries is above average. I would definitely recommend La Courrone to any fellow bread lovers or anyone who wanted to expand their horizons via bread (but seriously, I think everyone should check this place out! They also have cabinet cakes which are wonderful and some beautiful Macarons with some amazing flavours).
Michelle Hwang
Have been there for many times. Enjoyed their cold dessert, cookie, cake and bread. Price is fair and taste is good. Currently they are offering but 4 get 1 for free deal. I grabbed one Mango Cheese bread for $3.00 this time, soft texture and great taste.
®-®-©hin....
This Asian style bakery has the wow factor here.... big range of products ,big in flavors, selections galore both sweet and savory..unleash the kid in a candy shop when checking this place out..and to top it off they always producing new products in store here... definitely the Disneyland of bakeries here...!!!!
Ashleigh Michelle
This is probably one of my favourite bakeries in Auckland! The food is all layed out so neatly and the ambience is lovely which makes the food more enticing. The coconut tart, honey cake and savoury breads are amazing. The food has never disappointed- I could easily spend a lot of money here. I can't wait to try the chocolate brownie, it looks so light and fluffy!
Alana
There is a wide selection of bread and pastries here and they look very delicious. I came here a couple of times before and i always had difficulty deciding what to get. Its so difficult when everything looks so nice! I was not disappointed with my food from this bakery :)
Medium_Rare
I stumbled upon this place while strolling in the CBD and recognized it from Zomato, so I had to go in and try some of their baking!

First of all, the shop is big and the pastries and bread are all laid out nicely. This added to the temptation of buying everything.

I went for three bags of different cookies (peanut, sesame, and walnut), egg and cheese garlic bread, mango cream cheese bread, and their famous watermelon cake. Looking around the place, there were also lots of other creative and novel products, such as bamboo bread, coconut tartlettes, and more.

Overall the watermelon cake didn't disappoint--it had a watermelon scent and taste to it, and it looked really pretty to boot. All the rest of my purchase were also good, and I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try at least once!

Showstopper: Creativity of the bakers! If you're looking for something other than run-of-the-mill breads, then this is the place for you.

Overall grade: B+. Would be better if they didn't have a surcharge for credit cards. It's only free of surcharge when you spend over $30.

Bright little Asian bakery tucked away on Lorne Street. I picked up a Black Forest cake here for my birthday last month. While the treats over here seem to all be good, I had to wait for a while to be served (as they ask customers not to handle cakes for obvious reasons).

The cake itself was good if a tad bit too sweet and expensive (it was a small one - about 6-8 slices costing me around $38). Would definitely drop by to see more of what they have to offer!

La Couronne is my go-to bakery in city central ❤️ The store is pretty, cozy and always smells incredible, with a few tables for those who want to rest and enjoy the food. They offer a wide variety of pastries from savoury to sweet, catering to your cravings: breads, buns, tarts, sponge cakes, layer cakes, mousses, macaroons, pudding cups, and so on, all looking super sumptuous. With so many choices, it's hard to leave this bakery empty-handed 😊

I come here every week to pick up some yummy treats. My must-haves are their pork flake buns and the cheese cake. I also love their egg tarts, custard buns and cream rolls. The cheese cake in particular is so soft, light and just enough sweet ❤️ If I were to complain, I dislike that the store recently increases their prices and the staff speak Chinese-Mandarin to me all the time just because I'm Asian. Anyway, I still recommend this bakery and will keep coming here as long as the quality of baked goods is consistently nice.

Came in here and picked up a mini Black Forest cake for my mum on the way home and daymm they have an endless selection of breads and delicate little desserts. They even have macarons!! I am soo looking gonna be trying them out at some point. A nice little Asian bakery near Uni !

I think that the shop itself is cute. The staffs are friendly and their goodies are really tasty, but buying their macaroons is i think a mistake. It was dry and almost packed with air. That really disappoints me alot.

Love it, so many small delicate sweets! Amazing decor like stepping into some wonderful candy wonderland 😍 All delicious and light staff are friendly and informative 👌

As a dessert lover, I could not get over La Couronne's amazing range of sweet and savoury bread buns, pastries and cakes the first time I stumbled into the store! They definitely have a wider range of baked goods compared to many other asian bakeries in Auckland so you'll never run out of options either!

Cute little asian bakery. My go to for yummy treats after uni or desserts even birthday cakes. Love the peanut butter buns and the fresh raw choc cake. So delicious i cant resist!

La Couronne offers a range of cakes, savoury pastries, sweet pastries, breads, macarons, slices and even desserts. I applaud their creativity when it comes to flavours and presentation - its a serious step ahead of other 'asian bakeries'

Having a love for bread and anything pastry-like walking into La Couronne for the first time was over whelming. I ended up walking out with over 6 items and sat outside with my friend trying everything…. this was 4 years ago.

Ive since probably tried majority of the bakery, including their birthday cakes (the taro cake is to die for) and even their mooncakes (YUMMM!! they do fruity iced mooncakes which are so much better than the original ones.)

I highly recommend La Couronne.

May have found my favourite bakery, it's a hidden gem and everyone needs to go! The bread looked amazing and didn't disappoint. Will be back for sure

I love this bakery. It has almost all kinds of breads, sweets, mini cakes, snacks and desserts. It is very clean, and the variety is fair. I love their brownies, their sweetheart bread, and custard bun. I go there frequently for buying my favourites.

I frequent La Couronne for their cute desserts and bread. Their macarons are a bit expensive but worth trying out as they're usually overlooked. I LOVE their Strawberry snowy dessert- it's a mochi skin filled with cream/ custard and a strawberry and is so so delicious but unfortunately they usually only have durian flavour available. All of their products are of high quality and there's a lot of options so you'll be sure to find something for everyone.

I absolutely love La Couronne. Someone I know used to work here, and she was always so lovely! The other staff members were so friendly as well. I love the taro buns/cakes, as well as the custard buns. I could go on but they've got a whole selection of buns that I like! Their macaroons are decent and they're all in little individual packaging! So cute! Others worth mentioning are their butterfly cookies (i think they're called these? the heart shaped ones, MMMM). Prices are very good for the value and taste! I need to visit again soon!

An adorable asian bakery. I haven't tried much of their sweets and cakes but I've tried their coconut cupcakes and coconut meringue. It was heavenly! This place also serves coffee and tea which I am yet to try, but the interior is so pretty and the staff are great :)

The perfect cake store for novelty yet absolutely divine designs and flavoursome treats!! I would often walk past and buy the little delicately wrapped brownie and tiramisu cakes, but I was most impressed with my 21st birthday cake. I wanted something a little different, and that would impress. I was utterly impressed! I requested the large burger cake, which is built in layers of different flavours. My favourite layer was the 'cheese' - which was custard. Presentation was 100% as was the taste and service. The only downfall was the price coming in at $80, but for special occasions it's pretty reasonable. And my one and only disappointment was there being none left.

My favorite place in city. Such a lovely bakery shop, if I need any feed for school morning, I will go there for various types of breads; if I am hanging out wiz friends, we will go there for the mousse cake and French style dessert; if I am having party I will go there for the fantastic birthday cake, the mango and Durian are my favorite! All the bakery things are at quite reasonable price. Especially there stuff are cute and always helpful!

This shops sells fabulous cakes, when I was visiting Auckland I ate one every night and sometimes had one at lunchtime too. They were light, fluffy, tasted fabulous and looked devine. I would definitely say visit this place and try them for yourself. :P

Scheduled to pick up a cake from their shop well in advance but when i arrived there i had to wait almost an hour before it was ready, which was not very good since i was in a hurry at that time too. However the cake was pretty nice although a bit too expensive compared to The Gateau House which i thought had slightly better cakes too. Would probably stick to The Gateau House for cake orders next time. However La Couronne does have a lot of other baked goods and a good variety of breads & desserts.

An Asian bakery with lots of fluffy style baked goods. A big range with lots of different flavours to suit different tastes. They also do a variety of dessert style items including macaroons. Have tried some of the baked goods, they were ok but not amazing.

Cute bakery on Lorne street, I loved it the moment it opened however some of the bread options aren't as good as other Asian bakeries.

I would highly suggest the cabinet food as it tastes great - the creme brûlée to the fruit tart (my favourite) and the cream on it doesn't taste fake or plastic like some places. I also love coming here during the moon cake festival because they usually have the moon cakes with different flavourings inside (including the disturbing durian flavour).

The personalised cakes/cakes on display near the entrance are fairly expensive, I was quoted $50 for one of their smaller/basic cakes.

The staff are friendly and always helpful.

Sarah Reynolds #challenge

It's cute inside, decent range. Prefer the other bakery on Elliot Street, find the quality a little better. Have yet to try the items behind the cabinet, would go back to try something else.

This was my go to dessert/bakery stop when I was in Uni. Affordable prices and very close to the campus! 😃 they're dessert and baked goods changes Atleast every 2 weeks so there's always something new to try! 👍

La Couronne is heaven for bread, patisseries, and desserts. There's so many sweet treats to choose from! The bakery accomodates 2-3 couples, which makes it mainly a takeaway bakery. But it is a wonderland! Colourful and cute designed cakes and breads. Whenever I get a sweet craving, La Couronne always comes to mind. Window says no photography but I guess they don't mean it seriously.

LOVE La Couronne! This adorable bakery offers a wide range of treats and savoury buns that have extremely reasonable prices too! always get my taro and red bean buns here :) I had also ordered my 21st bday cake here, a caramel and chocolate mousse cake and I can say it was by far the best cake I'd ever had! The sponge layers were light and moist and the layers of caramel and chocolate mousse in between... omgahd D: and the macarons on top were adorable!

Would definitely reccomend to people looking for celebration cakes or just a snack to get you going thru the day

This is my go to asian bakery.

I love their different brulees and macaroons.
They offer a variety of flavours for both!

I definitely recommend their custard snaps!

I used to come here regularly to grab a snack and I attribute their bread to me gaining weight haha. That's how addicting their bread is or I just have a weakness for bread. Anyways, I recommend trying the maple pudding. Most people just go for the varieties of breads that they have displayed on the tables which you can see as soon as you walk in. From memory, they have sandwich style breads on Thursdays and Fridays which contain egg and cheese. Their breads are quite fresh.

My boyfriend gave me a customized dog birthday cake with their most popular taro flavour which tasted delicious. Recently, I just made a birthday cake order which I received good customer services as the staffs were very friendly. I highly recommend their popular taro flavoured birthday cake.

the first time i visited here i was instantly overwhelmed by the amount of choices. there was so much variety in types (cakes, breads, cookies, rolls, etc) as well as in flavours (green tea, taro, cream cheese etc).

the prices were a lot higher in comparison to the normal asian bakeries i visit but everything looked so good i couldnt help but try a few things.

the matcha suncake ($2.20) was my favourite out of everything. the delightfully flaky green tea pastry with a thick, chewy green tea centre was absolutely delicious in my opinion but everyone else who had a bite didnt like it at all.

the taro cake ($30) we ordered for my mums birthday was also delicious - super light and fluffy sponge cakes layered with a delicious taro paste and cream and pudding filling. a shame i didnt take a photo of it - it looked amazing from the outside and tasted just like that.

i came back a second time with my friends and we bought a few of everything to share and i was honestly so disappointed. the brownies ($3) were more of a moist cake consistency rather than a brownie texture - it still tasted delicious but it wasnt what i was expecting at all. the vanilla cookies ($5) were also pretty good but definitely on the pricier side.

on a negative note, the cream cheese bun ($3) tasted horrible. it tasted almost rancid and had a weird aftertaste to it. the coconut bun was also awful and it tasted rather stale and old - definitely not the sweet and rich coconut buns i usually have. the custard bun ($1.80) was also bland tasting and somewhat artificial tasting and i definitely would never try any of these again. but would i come back here again? hmmm maybe but ill definitely be sticking away from the buns.

matcha suncake 9/10
taro cake 9/10
brownie 8.5/10
vanilla cookies 7.5/10

cream cheese bun 3/10
coconut bun 2/10
custard bun 4/10

This store is adorable. It's not your average western cake store so go in with an open mind and try something new :)

Good tasting stuff - I like the taro buns. Reasonably priced too! It's nice to come here for a small snack on a budget and there's heaps of selection. Would recommend to others.

every year i get my birthday cake here....its the best place to find a cake that isnt super sweet. My favourite is the taro pudding cake, its made out of real taro and turned into a paste form. Another favourite cake i like is the Triple chocolate, it has a classy feel to it, especially the way it has been decorated. But if your not really into sponge cakes with cream, theres also a maple pudding cake. It has maple syrup on top with custard egg pudding on the outside and has a cheesecake base.I also love the breads, especially the custard bread... its SO CREAMY and smooth

There are not many bakeries around the cbd that offers the same range of cakes, bread and other baked goods with the yum factor as la Couronne (aka the pink bakery). Now, the name is decidedly French but what they offer actually has a fusion of European and Asian influences. Their sugared bacon danish can sit right next to a BBQ pork brioche and their fruit custard pastries happily tries to win your picking next to green tea bread with red bean fillings. In their glass cabinets are gourmet looking cakes and other desserts including giant mochi with fruit and cream fillings (even durian!). They also sell other (perhaps less explored) Taiwanese baked goods such as flaky taro, wife bread etc
If you are in need of a caffeine fix then they do serve a range of coffees and a limited seating area should you wish to dine in but my friends and I usually takeaway because it is right next to the counters and can get really busy.
Oh, and another thing to mind is their birthdays cakes displayed by the windows are ones pre-ordered so are not for sale (24 or 12 hours in advance required and can make cakes that go up to sizes that will feed 20 people).
All in all this is a great fusion style bakery if you are after something different...... just watch those calories!
