Review Satya South Indian Restaurant - Auckland Central

Sushant Sehgal
It’s a small place tucked away at the end of K road but it is busy as hell and there are couple of reasons for that. The South Indian food here that we had on this occasion was excellent. Entrees here are also great, they only thing I found weird was big potatoes in chicken and fish entrees. They got our order wrong at times but we’re more than happy to accomodate it. Best to book ahead for this place as it gets very busy and they did seem hard pressed to serve everyone on time but managed it well. Good experience nonetheless, I will be recommending it to my mates.

Hands down best Mango Curry Chicken in town! Butter chicken is up there too. Used to go to their location in Grafton, but that has relocated I think. Lovely service too. Love the papadums!

An excellent place to enjoy the Indian food and Indian cultural heritage. The interior is made in such a way that gives you the feeling of being in India. The food is awesome and staff is very friendly. Very Busy on weekends. Fantastic place for family and big group dinner plans. They give complimentary sweets if your celebrating birthday or anniversary here. 😇👌

Only giving 4 stars because the food took so long to get to the table but it was delicious. We had various dosas and they were all so yummy. My friend had a fish curry and that was good too. Definitely coming back with my husband as I want him to try their dosas 😊

The best Indian food my mom and I ever had!!! Authentic, spicy South Indian kitchen. Quick service. Both vegetarian and meat dishes perfectly seasoned! I loved it

Love our dinners here. Always delicious meals and so reasonably priced. Not fancy decor but always pleasant.

Veg-friendly 🌱 Loved Satya! Most of the items in the veg & vegan section of the menu where vegan and the owner knew exactly what other items from the menu (sides etc) are already vegan or could be veganized! 16 vegan options + more entrees & sides. Vegan options around 15$ and Omni ones up to 20$ - so very reasonably priced.

Very tasty food and cozy home-like atmosphere :) very good customer service. I’ve tried fish korma and I love it.

Food was ok. Starters were good but the mains were not spicy enough even if you ordered hot. Tiny portions for the price and rice isn’t even included! Ok service. Very poor form to not let us pay separately for our own meals. Makes it very hard to split fairly in a big group so some end up subsidising another person’s meal/drink. Won’t be coming back.

Delicious entrees and curries here. and I Love the fact you’re able to BYO. The service was lovely and there’s a bunch of seating. If you forget your wine bottle, strategically, there’s a bottle shop almost next door

I went to Satya Ponsonby for a BYO with a group of 13 friends on Saturday.
The food was tasty but the service was atrocious.

We decided as a group to just split the payment evenly,
the first person went up to pay and straight away he was overcharged by a couple of dollars, luckily we realised and made sure the rest of us weren't overcharged. Once the final person had paid the staff accused us saying one person did not pay as he had only 12 receipts. To avoid arguing my friend decided to just pay the extra $32 and we would just sort it out later. However, as we were about to leave one of my friends actually had the missing receipt. We went back up to the counter to show him that we had paid for one extra person. He then started to argue with us that she shouldn't have taken the receipt even though it was given to her. After about 10 minutes of arguing with us and refusing to give us a refund on the spot, he asked for our bank details so they could transfer the money to us, but because of the shady behaviour, we disagreed and they eventually gave us a cash refund. As I was leaving I told another large group to check their receipt before paying and once again one girl in their group had already been overcharged.

I have been to previous BYOs at Satya and they have claimed one person did not pay and we called them out for it hoping it was just an honest mistake. I do not recommend this place at all, they must have ripped off hundreds of people. I suggest if you do visit Satya be very careful if you are in a big group as they will take advantage of you especially if you are drinking. Request receipts and make sure you do the calculation before you pay. I will not be going back again.

You want to make your Indian Cuisine experience more exciting than do it the way we did last time we had it. I know Indian cuisine is already as exciting as it can but you can bump up that excitement even more, with the spices and complex flavours in this cuisine what more can you ask for? Well the last time I had lunch with my team in the office was in this restaurant in K’Road, since we all love our spicy food we decided to splurge on a Indian restaurant and try out all sorts of dishes the some of us haven’t tried. Their dishes vary in spiciness but one of us had this great idea of asking the waiter to make one of the dishes ultra-spicy so that our tongues would burn, they complied and the result was this fun experience.

We came here because we are craving for the pani puri, but it was a bit disappointing. It was lacking in term of flavor. The uttapam was not bad. Service was friendly and quite fast.

I love Satya! The food is always full of flavour, there are plenty of vegan options and their BYO licence is great. I love the onion baji there. Last Christmas I saw they were giving free meals to people who had nowhere to go, which is very kind. I’d give Satya 4* but they are a little too overpriced for the portion sizes.

The food was tasty. Decor was beautiful. Satya has so much potential. However... The service was terrible. I asked for a Garlic Naan - Satya do not do a Naan they do a traditional Paratha. So I spent the 40 mins waiting for food getting excited about my Naan... that never came. The waiter did not advise me he was going to order me this Paratha instead, nor did he advise me there was no Naan. So when he rocked up with this thin crispy weak version of a Naan, to say I was upset is an understatement. Value for dollar is terrible! $18 average for a currie and no rice? Plus portion size it tiny. I could have eaten more... wouldn't have needed to if there was a Naan, or I knew it was Paratha and got two! To top it off the waiter wouldn't let us pay for what we ordered so he split the bill 3 ways, which caused havoc between friends trying to sort out what each other was owed and transferring money. It was a stressful and disappointing experience. You would be far better off driving another 10 mins and getting a curry from Paradise, tasty, quick, Naan! and you normally have enough for the next day. 2/10 will try to never do again.

Worst Maisoor Masala Dosa ever!! Sambar was so watery and no flavors, dosa has raw veggies in it. Horrible service as well. Waste of $20.00!!!

There are not as many Southern Indian restaurants in Auckland, so my husband and I were overjoyed to have discovered Satya!

I loved the interior decor - bright and cheerful, looked like an Indian palace, which really set the mood!

The curries were not exactly cheap (as you had to pay extra for rice). However, it was delicious and full with spices, and the serving size was decent with huge chunks of meat :)

The best part however were definitely their parathas, which are these buttery flaky breads. We ordered the cheese one, and it was absolutely beautiful and cheesy. The texture was amazing and completely different to naan breads! Would recommend giving these a try for sure :)
Nade
Beautifully flavoured food. Was made to my order (being very mild - can’t handle spice which is normally quite difficult at an Indian restaurant) and really enjoyed it

Having now been to many of the satya branches, I know where my favorites are. The dahi puri we had was full of flavors as usual. We had the chicken starter which I loved, but saw our neighbors had the fish starter which they advised was delicious. We then ordered the butter chicken dosa. The dosa was slightly undercooked but the butter chicken was amazing. I ordered the chai masala tea which I had to ask for several times. The service was hit and miss to be honest! I was asked several times whether I had received my tea! Finally brought out as we were ready to go. The tea wasn't at the same standard as the other satya restaurants. Infact it tasted weak, hence the reason for my slightly power rating.

Ambience and customer service:
At first glance, the place looks over the top decorated. The fact that they’re using yellow lights with the brick look inside, does not go well together most of the times. To top it off, the decorations with drapes on top and and the sides of the inside makes it look like more of a decorated dungeon than an Indian restaurant. The saying that “more is less or vice versa”, definitely doesn’t apply.
I have to give credit to the 2 people who took our order because they tried their best to look cheerful. Soon, the guy became more open and nicer to talk to; which I think was very lovely. He came and checked up on our meal which is a very sweet gesture.

Food:
They just wowed me with entrees. So much South Indian flavour and gestures. Every bite was a hit of new flavour. Even the hand made drinks were so nice. You just wanna gulp down all at once. Our mains - one word- REMARKABLE!!! I didn’t think I could find a restaurant that had all Indian flavours here in Auckland. Everything was so nice and very filling. I am definitely coming here again and again and again....

Pricing:
Very generously priced and the price of the food matched the quality of it.

Conclusion:
I think the place deserves a bit more deserved publicity as it clearly is one of the best South Indian restaurants in Auckland and it has topped every other restaurant that I’ve tried.
I also think the venue itself needs quite a bit of do up- maybe lighter colours, some music and less drapes.
Overall I think the food was amazing and I will be coming back to satya again... very soon .

Drove 20km for the Mysore masala dosa. Dosa looked great but tasted sour. That was a little disappointing and the sambar wasn't good either. Anyways for a south Indian who is dying for something remotely resembling the dosa this place is right. The prices are pretty steep at 20$/ dosa Which was in no way justifying the quality or hygiene of the place.

Absolutely loved the food! Service was really good! Staff are very friendly and accommodating! Loved the ambience! Will definitely visit again!!

One of the most friendliest service I have ever had, delicious food with quick service , great job guys I will definitely visit this place now onwards , highly recommended place

Dependably good food, and always a good time. Service could improve, especially communication of the wait staff (enthusiasm and information given).
Jim Smith
Fast service and lovely food! We had poppadoms with 3 delicious sauces and one not so nice. We also had a prawn dish which was really tasty. My main was Madras fish which was great. The others enjoyed their meals too.
Charles
My friends - a group of seven people dine there last night. We had to squish up because they were turning away people and needed the table. Our meals came in a timely manner, however they were luke warm, lacking flavour and spice. The definitely made sure everyone ordered rice as they came in un-matching glass bowls that the table had to share. A garlic paratha was missing and had to be re-ordered. Rather pricey for what you get and I do not think I will be returning.
Ida
Average food. Have had a yellow dahl, which ended up being a bland soup with no heat (asked for hot). Also had a mixed vege curry - which contained about 8 pieces of vegetables in a bland butter chicken like sauce. While prices appear cheap, you have to pay extra for rice. Also have had average service, the staff aren't that friendly and kicked us out at 10pm on a friday night.
Luke Rafael Bradshaw
Really enjoyed the Spinach paneer, great flavour, great texture, and the portion sizes were just right.
Also - very friendly staff - would highly recommend!!

Been to satya today... Dosa was mindblowing.. never tried such a tasty dosa from long time.. very nice hospitality... definately will come again for sure😊
Divya Jaiswal
The food was good. It was tasty but the quantity of the chutney and sambhar was not upto the standard. The service of the restaurant was bad. We ordered samosa chat as entrée but they forgot to give us and brought that in the end of our meal saying that the restaurant is busy and we ordered later on. Ridiculous behaviour of the staff.
Whiskyncigars
Food is outstanding. Not your typical food court crap. Authentic and gritty Indian food. Outstanding service too!
The fish curry and Eggplant Coconut curry were stand outs! Home made date and tamarind chutney were absolutely amazing!
Make sure you have the dahi puri... It will change your life!
Cmys001
Last Friday night a group of colleagues and my family and to Satya in ponsonby and it was the worst dining experience I ever had. Never have i been to an Indian restaurant where they serve such bland food. Despite ordering again and requesting the food to have more Masala and me spicier the same average quality food was served. To add to this we were served frozen parathas instead of freshly made rotis or naans. It most definitely was no where near the $30 per person bill. Will never visit this chain again and will encourage others the same. Total bill was $350!!! Terrible restaurant!

Amazing experience all together, especially for South Indian food that I have been looking for a long time. a great place to take your family for the service and the delicious food.
Hannah Morgan
After struggling to find a decent Indian restaurant for years, my family decided to give Satya a whirl.

I've only heard good things about this South Indian restaurant and my family were not disappointed.

The highlights of the meal were definitely the Masala Dosa, Rogan Josh. the Chepa Curry South India and the refreshing lassis.

The portion sizes are deceptively big but the staff are more than happy to give you a takeaway container.

Overall, if you're looking for an authentic South Indian experience, Satya is a must-try.

Zoe Bowker
If you like South Indian fare, head here. They seem to have a lot branches around town now, some close together for some reason, but still have that small tiny neighbourhood restaurant feel. Curries are super tasty, it's BYO so hey who doesn't love that, and the Dahi Puri are nice (apparently the are amazing - from my friends who eat a lot of them, so I trust their verdict!). A great choice for an informal catch up dinner with mates.

Amazing food, great hospitality...a must must go for an awesome South Indian food delight!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃. Come with family or friends..try it if u haven't yet been

A good standard place for Indian, the food is good and good for sharing. Thief curries are pretty nice although a few feel like they're made with the same base sauce.

The one thing we dislike about this place is the seating. Feels dirty and overcrowded. This place needs an interior overhaul!
Forkingfamished
Great food and service (they remember our favorites). Fresh and full of flavour and great for vegetarians. Highly recommended. The Dahi puri and pani puri are delicious as well as chicken dosa.
Alok Limbachia
We went for a lunch buffet there on a Sunday a few weeks ago. The food was flavoursome & great value though I know the dinner service would be suit us more as buffet's are generally not as good as a banquet dinner.
Joseph Shepheard
One of the best curries I've had in NZ. Warm service and a fitting atmosphere. Great vegetarian options also! I will definitely be recommending this to friends and family :)
Sarah Sellar
So awesome! Great food and the most lovely family around. Yum! We went as one big group and they were very accommodating. Did you know, they also provide free lunch and dinner on Christmas Day. How kind!
Caitlyn Cook
Satya is the best Indian food in Auckland. I love the dahi puri (entree). And the mains are all so good (I've tried a number of them). Lovely staff too. Gems. So recommended.
Ashwin Kanamala
One word - Amazing. Coming from India it's hard to find Indian food that carries the flavours of homemade masala - and that's what this place delivered. Without a doubt the most authentic Indian food, chai and south indian coffee. Delicious and great service. They even had Guntur chillies!! My fiance raved about this place after we ate there which was the added bonus, I know we will be coming back for our future Indian fix.
Jessica Li
My friends and I came here for a BYO. I'm not the most knowledgeable about Indian food but i thought the curries tasted pretty nice. The food came out fast and the service was friendly :) It was a bit small in my opinion and we were a large group so moving around was a bit of a mission
Amanda B
The food was so delicious and tasty. The dahi puri was my favourite and we may not have ordered if we hadn't seen the Zomato review recommending it. I want to try making it at home now! They sat us away from the bigger tables which I was thankful for. Service was really attentive. A great experience.

We have often eaten Indian food overseas including while in India. We discovered that this South Indian restaurant has the decor which sets the atmosphere. The service was prompt. The food presentation and taste authentic, and is the best we have had in NZ. We will be back soon with friends.
Helena Chen
Had a BYO dinner here with a bunch of friends the other night. There were quite a few of us so they pushed a bunch of tables together. It ended up making everyone sit very close together, which was a bit awkward for eating but very good for socialising The inside is warm and nicely lit, with colourful decor and nice table settings. The staff were accommodating and helpful, and their corkage was $4 per person.

I decided to try something different and ordered the Kadai Chicken, along with rice and garlic paratha (similar to naan bread). It was a little annoying that you had to order rice separate from the curry though as it often comes with. The curry was really flavoursome, and true to the medium spice that I ordered. The paratha was delicious as well, although a bit more garlic flavour would have been nice. I also think I prefer naan bread as it is more airy and light, but they don’t offer naan on their menu.

Overall, a really good dining experience; potentially because of the company rather than the restaurant, but would still return for another BYO.
Joshuaduggar071
Was such a cold, wet day that I almost 'passed' on going out - but I really couldn't waive a zomato meetup, as they have a knack of finding amazing little places and the company is always happy to talk food!! we found satya and it was first time .

We were welcomed by Nirmala - who was really engaged in welcoming us, and to show us her menu - while we were to individually choose - she suggested that we all try something different from our neighbour, so that we could see what the whole menu looked like - this caused a lot of conversation between us. (if you are ever in need of a conversation starter - this is the way to go!!! )

I had an Amazing 'Vegetable korma" literally a stack of green beans , potato, cauliflower , i love the presentation and it was mouth watery.

best service - best food what els you want . thank you satya and staff, you made my day.

i learned a Sanskrit word in that night satya = trust . hahahah it was amazing yesterday night.
Charlotte Lewis
I came here the other evening with my family which is always an ordeal in itself. The interior is nice with draped fabric hanging from the ceilings. Our table was quite cramped so we asked them to extend the table which they did.
The service was OK, pretty non-attentive but that's not always the worst thing.
The food definitely made up for it!
The Dahi Puri is so bloody good! A really delicious entree that is a lot lighter than samosas and other entrees from North Indian, Indian restaurants. The combination of the chickpea, potato, yoghurt and tamarind sauce was really something to write home about - I can see why they have labelled it as a must try on their menu.
The paratha which I guess is loosely their equivalent to Naan bread reminded me of a flaky, Malaysian roti - they were really tasty and I wish we had ordered one each.
We ordered 'medium' spice for most of the curries, normally with 'medium' curries there is a slight kick to them, these tasted more on the 'mild' side to me so I kind of wish we had gone with the 'hot'.
The lamb korma was really nice, as were the other curries (we ordered the mango curry and a mild butter chicken for my nana and little sister who cannot handle even an ounce of spice, the lamb korma, the chicken palakura and the green beans in coconut).
The green beans were really nice, definitely not a curry, they were just beans cooked in coconut but were a nice side to have with the rich curries.
I think for the portion size the curries were slightly on the expensive side of Indian cuisine however I feel as though they were of a higher quality thus justifying the extra cost.
I will definitely be back to Satya for some takeaways or for a quick, tasty dinner.
Sam
I booked a table for 20 people last month, and was able to get a table despite only booking three days ahead.

Despite our group's indecisiveness about what to order and how to order, the staff were extremely patient and understanding.

When the food did come out it was very quick given the size of the order. It wouldn't have taken more than 15 minutes for everyone to have their mains, plus entrees.

The food was excellent, which is the most important thing. Superb curries, generous servings of rice and good naan too.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the furniture and table layout were all great as well. I will certainly go back for more!

Cheers guys!
KitKat
We came here for dinner on a Saturday night with a group of friends. The food was good, very tasty and fresh (although the hot was more medium). The service was average - a smile wouldn't hurt - but the food came out in good time. The ambiance of the restaurant and the decor need some work (music in the background perhaps). Overall a decent place for a quick and cheap meal.
HJ
If you love Indian food this is one place to try! The menu has a good selected of traditional dishes - vegetarian and meat options. Mango lassi is a recommended drink! The dishes we ordered were fantastic! Full of flavour and were very satisfying. Service was great and the restaurant itself was ok. Value for money was good, like most Indian places the portions were decent. Would eat here again, good stop for a group catch up!

Phil180
Awful service, unhelpful grumpy. Food was mediocre and at at the level of a cheap takeaway indian but far more expensive. Dont think anyone from our group will be going back anytime soon. Very disappointing.
Gagan Saini
Yesterday I went satya and ate masala dosa and I find that dosa was very yummy . For me satya is very delicious food place. Rating is 5 out of 5 .
Oliver Richards
Delicious Indian meal. Extensive menu which included South Indian Dosas
Generous portions.
Friendly staff. Good wine list.
Highly recommend.

What can I say, Satya the finest Indian establishments one can visit on this planet.

Satya delivers ture south Indian food and have been doing so from the the late 1990s which started in a small outlet on Hobson st.

The dosas here are amazing, crispy and golden on the outside while maintaining a soft moist underside, which provide a very contrasting morsel of deliciousness. This goes further though, the Dosas come in a variety of flavours and fillings.

My favorite is the chicken option, where succulent, tender pieces of chicken are dusted / coated with a selection of aromatic, herbs and spices which are then tempered to fuse all the flavor together which explode in your mouth to create awesomeness.

They do the usual range of curries you find in other Indian restaurants and they too are mouth wateringly delicious, loaded with tons of flavor and spice while maintaining the heat level to your desired liking.

Curries not to miss, any of the spinach curries especially the spinach and cottage cheese, butter chicken (I know, but they do it soo good here) and lamb curry south Indian.

The ambiance is rustic yet colorful, the service is super fast and no frills. Gets lively and busy close to the weekends, pays to book to avoid disappointment

The wine menu is quiet extensive for an Indian restaurant and very affordable by the glass or bottle. Also seems to be the only Indian restaurant which offer craft beer / decent beer that I have come across. Sober driver try the mango lassi.

Been coming her from ages and will be coming here for ages.
Phil
I've been eating at Satya for years, since the early days at Hobson street. The food is always tasty. Every person who I have brought to Satya is now a convert. They've got a great range of vegetarian and vegans dishes too. Recommended for Indian food fans.
Caleb Rose
I went to Satya with a small group of friends and really enjoyed it. Excellent matching of food to mood and wine. If you're stuck for choice, and I don't blame you (they have an extensive delicious looking menu) the staff was really helpful with making my choice. Good flavours and interesting things on the menu. Will definitely come back! Thank you.

Satay is a during family favourite. I really love the southern creamy style curries and their Dahi Puri is amazing. Best Indian food in New Zealand.
Satish Tallam
I am here in NZ from last 3 months from south India and i am having tough time and sick for my homely food.. After being to Satya couple of times i felt that i am back to my home place.I come here for lovely Masala Dosa and thali and the taste is really amazing and i did not had get this taste in any of the famous hotels in Hyderabad.
Kelly
Just been to Satya. The food as usual has been great, been a regular visitor since their first Hobson Street operation. Nice to see the owners running the business for more than 15 years. Though grown and expanded, it is good to see the promoters taking personal care.
Satya is the only restaurant serving such a very wide variety of the tasty dishes.
They have to improve aesthetic. The floor is looking a bit rough, other than this, I still love their Dosas, thalis and especially the mouth watering Dahi Puri.
Keep it up Satya.
Aarti Iyer
This place should get negative ratings.. never ever go to this place.. I came here with my relatives.. ordered south Indian thali and satya south Indian thali, which was not even close to south Indian food.. Satya.. please for god sake stop saying that you are a south Indian restaurant.. the food was bad quantity and quality both..
Steve Boyce
We've been eating here for years and I've noticed a decline in the quality of the food since the change of owners at GN road. Our takeaways have been missing items, less and less meat, the taste is missing and one time I had to sit and wait for 30 mins after arriving to pick them up. They are always apologetic and I like that they are trying but we've started looking for somewhere else to eat. Very sorry to say - we've spent thousands in this restaurant but the good times are all gone.
Lucy
Please stop ignoring your customers!

Terrible service

Mixed up prices with other tables (Almost charged us $30 more)

Ignored me when asking politely for more rice (took far longer than expected)

Ignored us when we were going to pay, walked away from me, texting on the phone or doing something else 'more important'.

Placed food on our tables but not the plates and cutlery! Waited to see what would happen. Took 5-10mins to return with plates!

We ordered two plates of rice, but you only gave us one. So that's why I had to walk to the counter, wait five minutes, I don't know what you were doing, but it was not busy at all, it didn't seem like I mattered, I felt invisible.

On the upside...
Great food, prices are not too bad.

But- needs a kick. Medium was actually very mild. We love spicy food but there was no spice at all. Kinda disappointed with this.
Shelley
I had my best friend's hens night here and I just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for the most amazing service I have ever received at a restaurant! Not only that but your food was amazing!!!! You went beyond what any other restaurant would have done and everyone commented on how beautiful the service and food was. Having the wine out of the table to moving the meal through quickly and of course preparing a bus snack for us was just out of this world!!!
Kate
food is superb but the service is disappointing. They would not allow us to split our bill and also told us at the end of the meal that we must pay cash... which none of us had. One of us had to run down to the atm and pay the whole bill. Food is YUMMY!
Halmen Lore
Just amazing Indian Food. They menu is extensive and anything you choose is delicious. I love the Dahi Puri - Must try. Satya has your typical Butter chicken to curries and other dishes you do not find at other places. Murg Badami is a dry chiken curry with tons of flavour and loads of almonds. YUMMMM!!!!
Artemis
I have not visited India, but friends tell me that the street food in India is mouth watering. Friends who visited India and toured extensively for few months tell me that every street in India specialises with entirely different and amazing nick nacks. They have taken me to Satya and tell me that Satya serves the best and a very comprehensive Indian street food.
I am savoury person, I like pani puri and bhel puri. The cashew rava masala dosa is worth a special mention. There is very unique to Satya and no one else in NZ serves this type of dosa. The dosa pancake is a sort of lacy filled with cashews, spices and greens. Might be that is the reason they take at least 20 minutes to make this dosa. The waiters do not have any dress code and are very friendly and attentive, at times I feel it is bit too much

The best Indian Food in NZ FULL STOP!
I have dined at all 4 Satyas and they always deliver excellence.

Anyone who has been to Satya and not tried the Dahi Puri is missing out on a mouthfull of Nirvana. Dahi Puri is to die for.

The Masala Doasas are amaizing, better than I had during my visit to India.

Satya has one of the biggest and widest range of dishes on thier menu. The toughest part is choosing what to order.

4 of us went to Satya on a Friday night at 8:00 pm with out any reservation and the place was packed and not a single table was available. Fortunately there was a table who just finished and were getting up to pay. As soon as they lef t the table was cleaned in less then a minute and we were seated.

We ordered Dahi Puri, Masala Dosa, Prawn Entree and Combo Papad for starters and for the mains Chicken Tikka Masala, Green Bean coconut dry curry , Palakura Cottage cheese Curry and a Lamb Rogan Josh.

The Curries were all so deliciously amazing, the meat peices succulent and tender, full of Flavour and Joy.

The service was promt and attentive, the food was delicious and the night amazing.

Thanks Satya!!!!:)
Amanda Clarke
Have only ever heard good things about Satya so jumped at the opportunity to experience it the other night for dinner.

I'd been warned it was traditional Indian so not to expect typical butter chicken etc so i was looking forward to experiencing it.

I think with any BYO place though service can be lacking as they don't need to check on you for drinks, however it did mean they were a bit slow at taking our food order.

Though the service was a bit slow to begin with the food was delicious and I would definitely be back.
Brynley Swinson
Went with friends last night. Service wasn't great - waiter was surly and we weren't brought what we ordered. Food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality and quantity. Won't be back anytime soon that's for sure.

why is there no negative stars? If there were this place will be tops with minus 5 stars.

For dinner with wife and kids
Manager - Mrs Joshi
Chef - some dude just woken up or curing his hangover
Pani puri - microwaved potatoes hastily sprinkled with masal out of some ready made box Pani - same tastes like hajmila

Bhel puri - ketchup laden mish mash no crunchiness no freshness

Chicken dosa - extra ketchuped chicken breast pieces cannot swallow a bite.

Masala dosa- microwaved potatoes and onions with some oil wife had one bite and that was it.

The chutneys that came with dosas again - ketchup in everything

Lamb (most costly dish on menu) - wasn't bad i think the drunk chef ran out of ketchup by the time he preped - that was its saving grace.

Roti - best like moms

We left 85 % food as is and the hostess didn't ask why? Took our money and that was that.

All in all friends if you are a South Indian food buff like me don't waste your time money here.

Great service! Great food! Great atmosphere!

I would encourage anyone who likes Indian food to come here because it is quite simply superb. I will be back ... often.

Thanks for the wonderful experience!

I've yet to find another Indian restaurant that has the range of amazing vegetarian food Satya does. Everything from the light and flavourful Dosa through to the more standard curry-house fare never ceases to please. And they're the only place I've ever found where you can order hot and you can expect them to understand!

As a family we very often go out to dinner, at least once a week. This is honestly the best Indian food I have ever tasted, my dad adored it and said it was amazing, and he has been to Indian multiple times. Would highly recommend it. You have to get the Dahi Puri and the Pani Puri for entrees. Both are delicious! And the lamb korma was better than any other korma I have ever had!

very very disappointing - went with a group and both myself and my wife received two inedible mains - sent both back and received back equally bad.
(Other meals seemed to be fine)
Very reluctant to discount but eventually they relented.
Absolutely shocking!! Had been once before and loved it but never ever again. Was with a group of 16 people and after waiting 1 and a half hours after our entres we asked if we were getting our mains... They had forgotten our order. After another 1/2 an hour we finally got our food but 3 of us sent it back as is was revolting! When I eventually got my second main it was still inedible. We really had to fight with the owner for a discount due to the awful service we recieved, and after only eating some bread and poppadums it still cost $70. Would never recommend this place to others. Even the raved about dahi puri was foul and went uneaten by all who ordered it!

The BEST Indian I have ever eaten. The Murg Badami is to DIE for and the Dahi Puri is absolutley delicious. I take my family there all the time and get constant take-aways from it! My husband always gets friendly exlaims of 'Mr Karim!' when he walks in to pick up the take-aways.

Loved the food! I definitely recommend the Dahi Puri

Satya is absolutely appalling when it comes to service levels, staff attitudes & care factor. Satya is just a shocker and we couldn't recommend to anyone to go there based on this no matter what the food tastes like.

My favourite indian place! If you go here you HAVE to try the dahi puri as an entree. What an explosion of flavours!
Friendly staff, great food. I highly recommend.

Not all the stuff on their menu is top drawer. e.g. The paani puri ( gol gappa ) is not the greatest. When I ordered it it was very soggy, and dripping in oil, which means that there was too much flour used. They should be ideally very crisp.

The Gulab Jamun was not very fresh and was microwaved, not properly though.

The idlis are o.k. Can be better. The sambhar though was very good and so was the coconut chutney. The dosas are generally good, once though it was too salty. Uthapams are good as well.

I will not recommend to have curries here, I believe there are a few good North Indian restaurants that do excellent curries, better than what they do here.

The ambiance can be a lot better, wires hanging here and there. The toilets have a long way to go. Probably its their selling point - simple, rustic, very good food, however not sold on me. Above Average.

I have taken our 4 children to this restaurant a few times and every time has been excellent. They get so excited if we say we are going there.

Sataya is different (and better) than a regular curry house as they have much more tasty food that tastes fresh. They don't have the curry gravies & nan bread that most curry houses have.

The other Sataya is great too, on K Road, but we usually go to the Great North Rd one. Never been disappointed with a single item ordered let alone a whole meal. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for everyone - people who are new to curry, families with all aged kids, and curry lovers like me.

Nice to find an Indian restaurant that doesn't just do curries and the traditional samosa. If you come, try the dosa's. Personally the meat curries I don't find the best in terms of Indian although I haven't had all and there is a vast range on the menu.
Like the ambience and laid-back nature of the staff. The decor is well done out and feels like you're stepping into a real authentic Indian restaurant!
All in all a great place for a vast range of Indian meals and at a good price.

My favourite Indian restaurant - different, fresh and oh so tasty menu. The infamous entree with potato, yoghurt and tamarind (can't remember the name) is to die for and a must have. Wonderful atmosphere, always busy. Love it.
