Review Tianze Dumpling House - Auckland Central

I was hoping their "Dumpling House" dumplings would be good but it was just ok...I felt the skin was a little bit too soft like too much water. filling was alright. yum but nothing wow. slightly disappointed. but everything else was good. sauce they gave me was amazing.

Best crispy chilly chicken in town. The pan fried beef dumplings were amazing, crispy and filled with heavenly beef juices.

We found this hidden gem last night. All 7 of us loved everything we ordered here especially the crispy chicken in hot chilli sauce and beef noodles. The owners are very friendly and accomodating - we came close to their closing time but they were happy to stay open for us. We will definitely come here more often.

Have been to this restaurant several times. Has done some facelift outside. Inside was quite normal but spacious and pleasant. Not an upper class restaurant but the food was tasty and every time we dine in the restaurant the taste of the food was consistent. The price was reasonable. In fact the service was quite good and friendly. No worry, no language problem. The waitress spoke English. Booking is recommended if you have a big group. We still dine there occasionally. If you like Chinese food you may not like to miss this place.

The dumplings are excellent, and the stir fries really good. Not the flashiest surroundings, but service is prompt. A regular go to for us!

Our family of 5 had dinner here for the first time and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. The French beans fried with mince pork was outstanding. The pork ribs dish is a must try. And don’t miss the claypot seafood tofo.

Holy smokes!! Good good good. Star was lamb and cumin, up there was fried egg plant, good dumplings too. Lots of spicy goodness. Felt like family favourites done extremely well and well priced. $50 a head including beers and we were stuffed full!
Manpreet Singh
Amazing dumplings. Best ones so far, better taste and different texture. Was our first time here, will definitely be going back for more dumplings.
Katrina Harris
Delicious dumplings, although they were very greasy and stuck together. Service was great. However, the wait for dumplings was a bit too long.
Sharon Y
Spicy chicken was great. It was super crispy. Especially milk pancakes are stunning! We had to order another one!
Shaniqua Wiwarena
Fantastic table service, as a Kiwi food is very unique yet tasty, has a warm and welcoming feeling in this venue.

Ive lived in Auckland for 14 yrs. And 2 years in China. I know a thing or two about Dumplings. Tianze is hands down my favorite. Pork & chives is legendary. Had spocy beef last night. Was good too. Chicken as well. Juicy and delicious.. Must must tryyyyyy😍

First time in Auckland and were driving around and found ourselves near this place and called in for a snack. It was absolutely delicious. Ordered pan fried dumplings and chicken and mushroom dumpling soup. So tasty and large portions. 100% recommend and would come here again. I wish we had room enough to have tried more of the menu.

Great tasting authentic food. Most items could be made vegetarian which was amazing

Was craving dumplings so decided to give this place a try since we pass by this area quite often. Have to say it was very nice , one of the few places that we had good dumplings , definitely will go back.

The eggplant and pork mince dish is soo good. We also got sweet and sour pork and fried rice - both delicious too. We were too full for dumplings, will definitely go back for them another time :) service all good and it's a clean restaurant

I ordered takeaway steamed dumplings and ended up with fried. :(<br/>The lady at counter wasn’t happy with me taking the chilli from the table, though in past i have been asked by the staff to take it from the table<br/>She could have been a bit easy with it but nope she wanted things her way! Not impressed this time
Simran Deo
Delicious chicken and chive dumplings and sweet and sour chicken. Serving portion is good as well. By far, the best sweet and sour chicken I have tried in Auckland. Would definitely recommend going to this place!

Tianze is located in a blink and you'll miss it block of shops, with a dairy, chinese takeaway, Leña Cafe & various Indian takeaways, sweet shops etc. Parking isn't great, but best parking, if you can't get one of the few parks outside the shops, is across the road. Not a fancy restaurant, but the food is the best reason for coming to Tianze.<br/><br/>What to order: cold steamed chicken with sour & spicy sauce (delicious & so good as a dipping sauce for dumplings). Dumplings are delicious at Tianze. Miss 13 liked the clam noodles and egg & chive dumplings.<br/><br/>Update: highly rate their won ton soup. Everyone in my household loves it from my two year old to the teens & us adults also. Delicious broth. Great when you're feeling a bit under the weather!<br/><br/>Also rate their spicy Sichuan noodles (dandan noodles) & spring onion pancake.<br/><br/>Definitely keen to try more from the menu!<br/><br/>

Foods good but they charge more than the menu shows. When it was queried with the lady behind the desk, she got angry at being caught out then she said the prices were a year out of date but didn't seem concerned about updating the Zomato website.

average dumplings :-/ ive had better. you would think their dumplings were beast because they’re called tianze dumplings lol Prob won’t go thea again

Decent food, large portions and fast serving speed. We enjoyed a range of classic northern cuisine here including fried eggplant stuffed with mince, hotpot fish, and meatball soup. The dishes were delicious and went down a treat. I also ordered the fried sweet corn pancakes for dessert/side dish but it was disappointing. It was overly fried (some bits burnt) and the random strawberry jam just ruined the dish. The corn itself had a natural sweetness to it but the jam gave it an artificial flavour. The fritters were also a fried mess that wasn't crunchy and tasted very dense. We spent $95 between 3 which was okay for the amount of dishes that we got but quite expensive for Chinese food!
Sophia Wang
My friends and I came here for a BYO dinner. We got dumplings, sweet and sour pork, spring onion pancakes, and two lots of fried noodles!! They charge cheap corkage per bottle which means you’re allowed to bring in cider. The food was delicious and the service was great. Definitely call and book beforehand if you are planning on eating in there as it isn’t a big restaurant. On the corner of Sandringham road and mt Albert road, just down the road from Sandringham shops. The food is fantastic, and they have an A grade rating 👍🏼

This is our favourite place for jowdser. Love the mapo tofu and their hot and sour soup is the best.<br/>We have been going here for years now. Always order enough for leftovers the next day.<br/><br/>
Toby Marris
Not the most flashy place in town but a friendly warm place to eat ( with an A food grade) , i ordered way to much and they happily gave us boxes for takeaways . The food was great - we had a cold beef salad - thinly sliced cold pressed brisket (i think) with a marinade of soy, garlic, chilli and maybe five spice - nicely chewy, Squid Tentacles- crisp fried and chilli laced, eggplant stuffed with pork mince, crispy milk pancake, and tofu and mushrooms in soy sauce, oh and the only thing that seemed ordinary was the dumplings - we left absolutely full and determined to come back . Service was friendly and full of smiles , did have to change the pancake as the one we wanted had run out ( it was lateish in the evening) and very glad we did.
Rohit
Got the chicken and chives friend dumplings for takeaway last night. Fantastic flavour and good taste. Service was quick - was asked to pick up in 10 mins. Will be back here for a dine-in experience.
Avi Yabaluri
Friendly service with a smile, and very quick service at that!<br/><br/>The Hot & Sour Soup (Chicken) is pretty damn good! Flavourful - too much if anything, healthy ingredients and more than satisfactory quantity for the cost. It's especially great when you need relief from cold weather or if you're unwell. Packs quite a punch, though!<br/><br/>Love the Egg Pancakes. Wish those had more options like the dumplings do.

Last time I went to this place at 6:30pm, I've ordered dumplings and other foods. Everything else arrived but the dumplings. It did not arrive by as late as 8:45pm... So I had to unwillingly get it as takeaway by 9pm. (It's way past my dinner time) (They have already pre-packed it in plastic container before I even requested) (i.e. Forcing me to take it)<br/><br/>Today I went there again and pre-pointed it out and requested to have the dumplings first. The waitress said along the lines "just because you want dumplings, we cannot bump you up in the queue." <br/><br/>Let's take a look at my patience last time, from 6:30pm to 8:45pm.... And my request/reminder this time indicates (to her) that I am asking to be served in advance? Are you kidding me? That time, everyone else got their food ordered well after us. I even asked about 5 times for the dumplings, they simply ignored.<br/><br/>If it's a Dumpling House, why don't you serve dumplings first? <br/><br/>I walked out with my dignity and taking my money elsewhere. It had given us some very good experience in the past, but today they gave me a huge insult. The negativity is irreversible. I sincerely wish the place to crash and burn in its business.

Was really impressed with this hidden gem.. we had the cumin lamb and hot and spicy chicken which were both really yummy, their prawn pork and chive dumplings are also really good too.. was really happy with the flavour overall.

This is my favorite place for dumplings in all of Auckland. Seriously, do not miss - their pastry seems hand made and the filling is generous, juicy and well seasoned. 10/10. Very reasonable prices and the rest of their menu is good too!
Carolyn Koloni
Wow I am really pleased we found this place. It isn’t anything flash and Service is iffy but The food was authentic and to die for. Great prices. We will definitely be back.
Jocheli015
Everyone needs their fav local Chinese spot. This place is ours. Everything we've tried has been delicious! Can't go past that crispy chicken either. Looking forward to our next visit!
Viviena.schaaf
If you order takeaway your order will be priortised last. Order was suppose to take 30 mins, it took an extra 40mins and there was no priority on orders. Just random
I'm Hungry
Food is really good here. Tried dumplings, dumpling soup, steamed chicken in spicy & sour sauce and kung pao chicken. Heaps of seating, great service. Not very sure of the quality of ingredients and cleanliness. But over all was great.
Serge Foodini
Well ...the service is non existent but the food on the other hand is really good and portions are quite generous too..if you don't mind their customer service approach you might enjoy this place
Maureen Guildford
Delicious mothers day lunch at tianze dumpling house in sandringham with Shelley, tom, fiadh, Chloe, wick, Greg and haley. The food was delicious .

Can't beat this place for serving sizes, affordability and flavour. Dumplings were perfectly cooked, the soup fed 8 of us perfectly and we had leftovers! Highly recommend.

Few dumplings had hair in it n to top it up very bad service. I had this place in mind since a long n decided to try it on Friday evening with my partner. Ordered 2 dishes with a beer. Had to pick n open my beer myself, that's OK up to some extent but had to remind them twice that I ordered dumplings too. That took ages. After we finished, I waived at Serving person and she ignored totally twice. I walked up to her and ask for takeaway and she told me grab to takeaway box n pack my food. Too bad. This is on my NEVER list now.

Dumplings and more dumplings!<br/><br/>A close friend had come up with his family for the Easter break and all he kept texting me was “ Barilla Dumplings! “ <br/>I also conveniently forgot to mention to him that I absolutely detest Barilla. When I picked said friend and his family up for lunch I told him I was going to feed him a ridiculous number of dumplings. Believing naively that I was going to take him to Barilla, I masterfully drove towards the direction of West Auckland. <br/>Now my friend isn’t a fool by any means so when we turned up outside TianZe, to say his face was contorted maybe an understatement. <br/><br/>After a brief but slightly heated debate about Barilla and its many flaws, I was able to convince him to try TianZe Dumplings. <br/>In terms of cleanliness I’ll admit TianZe Dumplings makes me question it’s ‘A’ Food Rating with oily floors and sticky table mat. However these are things I can look past if the food served was as good as some of Auckland’s Chinese community suggests. <br/>We ordered 100 Dumplings with 5 different flavors. 20 dumplings at $12-$14 is an absolute steal. <br/><br/>To accompany our dumplings we also adopted for some more traditional dishes such as Traditional Sour Tofu Soup, Fried Meat Ball Eggplants and Soaked Beef in Chilly Oil. These dishes are favored by northern Chinese folks so for diners who like a bit of heat then these dishes would be perfect. <br/>Our dumplings was a conjunction of pan-fried and steamed, they have a generous amount of fillings and the skin to filling ratio is to my preference. However, this was not to the preference of my friend who being rather ‘Basic’ in his dumpling needs, prefers thicker skin ratio to filling. <br/><br/>For myself the dumplings were quite good to him they were disappointing. Although both of us loved the Pork and Fennel filling and would highly recommend that filling.<br/>What my friend did really enjoy was the ancillary dishes that accompanied our 100 dumplings. The meat-ball egg-plant was not only a novelty but also tasted spectacular. In terms of kick the Beef in Chilly Oil was a table favorite having a distinct spiced beef flavor. Although the dish by nature is a little oily, the bean sprout provided a nice reductant to the dish. <br/>My friend and his family did enjoy their meals here, they were homely and uniquely Northern Chinese. I would ask from the owners though, to just pay a little more attention to hygiene aspect.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Northern Chinese dishes here are authentic and flavorsome.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: B ( Rating taken to B because of hygiene )

Just like they toss out dishes at brisk speed here, they also throw the service and manners here down the drain. On my second visit here, when I asked for a spoon, the young lady at the front-of-house duty indicated the cabinet next to the billing counter. I took the cue and got it myself. You've gotta hand it to these folks - they've mastered nay admirably internalized the Kiwi ideal of DIY. I'm just grateful that I was not asked to cook my order of fried rice myself (considering its passable quality, I suspect I might have actually banged out a better version). On a previous visit , I had gone only for a light meal of shredded potatoes and rice (I concede that particular vegetable dish might be an acquired taste which was lost on me), so I had returned to sample more of the menu but the frosty attitude (they're certainly all set for winter) had me frozen in my tracks. At the time of paying the bill, the same monosyllabic disregard came through from the young lady. They have a big poster on their wall of a media publication praising their pork and fennel dumplings among other offerings. It seems they love the media feedback but the day-to-day patron can be sent for a wok-toss. Two years ago, I had the same third-rate contemptuous "service" doled out at Grand Harbour , CBD. Apparently places like these don't really need customers , they make their profits on attitude alone. The menu had other choices like 'kung pao spicy chicken' and 'crispy fried chicken in hot chilli sauce' and I usually sample half a dozen dishes in a place before a write-up but do you really want to return when they make you feel so unwelcome ?
KP
Rating applies to their dumplings. We've tried few other places but haven't found as good. Regulars for the chicken and chive, and the pork and fennel. Must tries!<br/>Recent update: Stir fried chicken pancake... Yummo!!!
Thekittaysmeow
Not much to look at in terms of decor/ambience but good dumplings! You get 20 in a serve. We ordered wayyy too much between two of us ( 2x serves dumplings, sichuan noodles & black fungus salad). Found the sichuan noodle soup to be a bit too salty/MSG flavour. We tried the dumplings both pan fried and boiled and pan fried was definitely tastier - they did the crispy bits well! The black fungus salad was delicious also. Although just a warning - They had eftpos but didnt accept credit - in which case our australian cards couldnt be used as we had to press credit - so be prepared and bring cash.

MY FAVOURITE 'DUMPLING HOUSE' The dumplings were so juicy and fresh and cooked just how i liked it. I ordered spicy beef and they were delicious. Best eaten when hot and the vinegar dipping sauce goes perfectly with the dumplings!! I will be back For more and to try other delicious flavours (My rating is for the dumplings ONLY)<br/>customer service 3/5<br/>Dumplings 5/5-

Great food but worst service I have ever experienced. DON'T BOTHER ORDERING OVER THE PHONE. Apparently, according to another customer waiting phone orders are a joke. <br/>Arrived only to be subjected to a 40 minute wait while other people walked in, ordered, and left with their order. When finally I thought my order was ready they had prepared the wrong dumplings and wanted me to take them instead so more waiting. All up 1 hour from ordering I got my order, which did at least good. <br/>

Great dumplings, great hospitality and standard prices. A great place to bring a group so you can take full advantage of the spinning tables.

Middle of the road - I thought prices were a little much for the quality of the food - especially for the greens (beans, bok choi etc). Dumplings were pretty good though. Would recommend if it's really local to you and you don't want to go further a field for better.
H J
Best dumpling we've tried, highly recommend the pork and fennel, bursting with a delicious broth, fried or steamed. Would also recommend the eggplant + pork mince (photo below) and the kung pow chicken.
Sasha.Lin
Found this one on Zomato, such an amazing place for casual dining. It's a family business, the staff are very friendly and helpful, but the could give more introduction to the food. The price is really reasonable in the area. And they have a huge variety of choice of food.I would love to come back.

I really like the food from this place it tastes good and comes very hot. Also there are a lot of things on the menu so there is quite a selection to chose from.

We just finished a work lunch here and I had to write a review straight away.<br/><br/>Service was perfect, they weren't to busy but still very attentive with good suggestions of things to add to our meal for 9 people.<br/>The veggie dishes were all very well cooked and fresh.<br/>Dumplings were fired to perfection and very flavourful, We had the Tofu black fungus and cabbage as a suggested dish and they were amazing.<br/>The sweet n sour crispy pork was out of control, some of the best Ive had.s<br/>We also appreciated the family feel to the restaurant with a table full of family also eating and serving etc.
Rose
Things to order: 1) dumplings. Good but not standout.  2) "tasty black fungus with sour and soy sauce"- just trust me.  3) "spicy and sour shredded potato" 4) MUST: "sizzling eggplant stuffed with pork mince" 5) "dry fried french beans with pork".  6) "milk flavour pancake": these delicious shredded slightly crispy bits of pancake, good side dish.  Wasn't a huge fan of the mongolian lamb pancakes.  Took a long time for them to serve us which was a bit odd considering it wasn't full but nice service after this, convenience of BYO and no New Flave/Barilla lines.  Will definitely be back.
Paula D
Got tired of driving to Dominion Road so decided to try this place considering it was only a 2 minute walk away. LOVED their dumplings and their fried rice. A lot cheaper than Barilla and food is full of flavour.
Spychiever
Love eating here. The food is always great and while the service might not be supreme all the time, it makes up for it with atmosphere and deliciousness. Don't be put off by the exterior or interior - or the amusing spelling in the menu (prowns). It's worth it. Favourite dishes include crispy chili chicken, mongolian lamb, pork and fennel fried dumplings, sizzling eggplant. <br/>FYI not for vegetarians...
Kaushikc_32
I am a big fan of dumplings and was pretty impressed with this place. I fell this restaurant is slightly underrated compared to the other Chinese dumpling places. The dumplings were juicy and cooked to perfection. The variety is also good and its away from the hustle of dominion road. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes dumplings.
Cdeep
Just landed here on a hunch that they handmake their dumplings so how bad would it be...but was surprisd by the quality of the dumplings...my fav place for dumplings now..oh and did i mention the awesum Hot&Sour soup👌👌👌👌👌
Rishab Goswami
Great tasty hot food, served promptly. Prices are fair to reasonable. Service is courteous, recommend ordering in advance. Four person cost around $60, no alcohol<br/>Highly recommended
David Vince
By far the best Chinese place in the Mt Albert area. One of their dishes is eggplant stuffed with pork mince, a must try dish. The layout is the usual plastic clothes and help yourself to cutlery arrangement so not the place for a romantic dinner . They have a selection on Chinese beer, all taste awful but at $7 a bottle who cares.<br/>
Yoyo
This surprised us a bit. Like the other reviews the inside isn't much to speak of however the food is. My favourite dish was the sweet and spicy chicken. Normally would not attempt trying anything like the dish but glad I did. Eggplant with mince pork stuffed inside was delicious and of course the dumplings didn't disappoint.
Miss T
Very disappointing visit. Dumpling noodle soup took an hour and a half to come. After everyone had eaten we asked to cancel the soup and they declined us and did not allow a refund. Had to wait even more time for the soup to come and companions had gone just because i did not want my money to go to waste. Although they were very apologetic, they wasted my time. Could have told me it would take long or refund me! Ridiculous

Just been to this restaurant.  Nothing to look at from the outside but I was surprised that the inside was quite pleasant.  Obviously not an upper class restaurant but the food was good.  Ordered a few common dishes (see picture) and they did not disappoint us.  They are tasty and the price is reasonable.  In fact the service was quite good.  No worry, no language problem...English.  But that night was crowded.  I understand the place is normally crowded.  As for the restaurant,  hygiene is good.<br/><br/>Definitely going back again to try other dishes.

Came here upon recommendation and true to promise, the spicy lamb terrine was life changing - 5/5. The pork and fennel dumplings were a hit as well. BYO and no corkage.
Daniel Power
Bit of mix feelings about this place. The signature lamb dish was delicious (4/5). However the sweet and sour fish ($28) though nicely fried, wasn't fresh (2/5). Panfried prawn cakes, was pretty so-so and at $25, pricey (2/5). Portions were reasonably generous. Service was good, though food came a little slow. But if the lamb dish is anything to go by, would like to come back again for another try.

After moving to the area recently we were excited to try some local cuisine and we were not disappointed by this place. We ordered take out and had the pork and fennel dumplings, spicy beef dumplings and the best hot and sour soup I have had in Auckland to date. I don't think we would dine in here as the atmosphere doesn't have anything special about it but if you are looking for a great Saturday night take out this is the place
FoodLover
Have tried their food, its yummm. Chicken and chives dumplings were yumm. Sweet & Sour soup just perfect. Ordered shredded potato, was dynamite.. spicy but really nice. <br/>The only thing was waiting was too long. We were group of 14 (incl kids) and there was only 1 girl to take orders etc.. So kinda long with with upset kids.  <br/>But food was yumm.. Will definitely go again.
Tanz
I did not give the lowest rate because their friendly waiter. The girl with glasses always have smile on, which made a good initial impression for me. <br/><br/>However, my feeling changed after the dishes came. <br/><br/>Beijing Style Pork in Sauce, extremely salty. <br/><br/>Steamed dumplings with beef and onion filling, super oily beef mince, hardly did I found any lean meat. <br/><br/>Hu Nan style spicy stir fried pork, they did not add any chilli in, which was supposed to be there. They use Szechuan Chilli sauce instead, not HuNan chilli, cheating!<br/><br/>Pork meatball in pot, salty and oily with no lean meat inside meatball, and I found egg shell in one of the meatball!<br/><br/>Their chef should get back to China to learn how to cook Chinese food. <br/><br/>Yuck. <br/>

If it’s the atmosphere and ambience you’re after this is not the place. However if the quality and freshness of the food being delivered to your table is key to your night out then that’s an entirely different story. The food is prepared and served freshly cooked and hot to your plate, specially made for you. Be patient, this takes time. The chef wanders through from time to time with a sense of pride, and quite rightly so. The mix of Chinese, Indian and European diners is an encouragement as to the popularity and quality of this Asian eating-house. The dumplings are out of this world – try the pork and cashew nuts! A great selection cooked in whatever way you prefer to satisfy all tastes. Fully licensed with a great choice of beers or BYO. Well worth the visit if you’re eating to a budget, all at prices that wont break the bank. As for me personally, I’m always made to feel welcome. Recommended.
Myfoxycorner
Got takeaways from here as it was close and recommended by friends. Ordered the egg and chive dumplings which were tasty and moist, packed with flavour. Also got the chicken curry and carrot dumplings which were received well by the others. Had the dumplings fried and they were perfectly done, crisp on the bottom but soft and doughy on top. Waited around 20 mins for takeaways which was fine. For our extras we had the chicken fried noodles (tasty and not too oily) the bok choi with garlic (definitely full of garlic, super tasty) and the spring onion pancake which was exactly how a pancake should be, flaky and delicious. Not the cheapest compared to some dumpling joints but still definitely good value, especially in larger groups.

This place is excellent, no dud dishes! Serious dumpling experience, with some delicious vegetarian options. This is going to be my new go-to for dumpling times, because the price is right! (。◕‿‿◕。)

I love dining here. Chef Levy presents meals I never thought of before like eggplant stuffed with meat and deep fried in a light batter. The dumplings are fantastic and a good price. Although there is no rice to order with the meal it doesn't matter because there is more than enough squid tentacles, or dumplings or chicken, peanuts and all served with delicious sauces. My husband Rob and I starting dining there before it had been renovated and it didn't look like much but now it's renovated, has comfortable seats and has beer if you want it. Neo (I know I can't spell the wife's name) and Levy are friendly and make you a hot chilli meal if you dare. You guys rock!
Andrew
Totally recommend this place. All the dumplings and dishes we had were delicious - try the fried squid with cumin salt and the eggplant. Will be going back!
Steve Hall
Been three times, first time was nice , got a lamb dish, second got a salt and pepper squid which was pretty poor, didn't finish it, so went back to get the lamb, wait times for takeaway are generally slow, this time was over 45 minutes, then went and asked how much longer and it was sitting Luke warm on counter waiting for me, even though I had been standing right there for over 45 minutes, this time the lamb was just fatty pieces and not going back ever

Fantastic Dumpling restaurant!!! We've been big fans of Barilla Dumpling in Balmoral for a while but we thought we'd try this place as it's local - we've been converted on our first visit. <br/><br/>The Pork and chives dumplings and spicy eggplant were fantastic. Very tasty dumplings with great filling.<br/><br/>I'd highly recommend this place and we're looking forward to heading back to try some more dishes soon.
Carmella @ Easy Food Hacks
The food at Tianze focuses on North China cuisine. True to its moniker, Tianze has a good range of dumplings and is the first place I’ve seen more unusual seafood dumplings, - fish and squid. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try these; we judge a place on their interpretation of the traditional pork and chive dumplings. The dumplings were fresh, and flavoursome. The steamed version are good, but I preferred the fried ones; there's just something about biting into the crispness of the charred golden bases, then the chewy dough and finally the succulent meat.<br/><br/>The noodles in pickled cabbage and pork soup ($8) are a rich and flavoursome offering, the sourness of the preserved vegetable and the mild heat of the chillies was a great foil to the springy wheat noodles. The serving size is huge though, you’ll have to be ravenous to be able to finish a whole bowl of this. For vegetables, we had a plate of spicy shredded potato ($9.80). It was different from anything I had tried before, slightly crunchy and was quite refreshing. <br/><br/> It was the first place that I got introduced to sautéed shredded pork in sweet bean sauce ($9.80) which came with spring onions and warm pancakes. There’s just something about warm meat wrapped in pancakes which makes it more delicious. The milk flavoured pancakes ($6) are addictive shards of crispy, sweet deliciousness. I did my best to share them, but my fingers kept finding its way back to the plate…. <br/><br/> Tianze Dumpling House is a great addition to the enclave of eateries in Sandringham, with a tempting menu of staples and more interesting options. <br/><br/>For more photos, see: http://easyfoodhacks.blogspot.co.nz/2014/04/tianze-dumpling-house-sandringham.html
