Review Yoshizawa Cafe - Auckland Central

Tsan Tsao
I don't remember how many times I've dined at this restaurant, but the quality of the food is still top-notch. The Karaage chicken is crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and the creamy sauce enhances the taste. I highly recommend the omurice, where the rice is steamed with sauce and ham, making it a perfect fit for the Eastern palate. Moreover, the beautiful waitresses provided excellent service :)

I've lived in Japan for one year and I can tell you this is authentic! Very tasty and abundant plates. The set menu is exactly as what you would expect in Japan. Great miso soup.

Their curry is very nice, good quality and flavour isn't too strong. The miso meat is also very nice. A good variety of dishes to choose from. Customer service was excellent - friendly staff and hardly any wait time for food.

(Disclaimer: The following translation is based on the provided content and may not accurately represent personal experiences or preferences.) 📍 Yoshizawa Japanese Restaurant An affordable Japanese restaurant located in Auckland CBD. 🐷 Miso Pork Cutlet Set Meal Taste Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 🏮Review🏮: The local pork in New Zealand tends to have a slight gaminess due to humane practices. However, perhaps due to the addition of miso, this dish successfully eliminates the gaminess. The crispy exterior and tender interior make it quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the white rice was a bit watery, which was a minor drawback. 🐙 Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) Taste Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖 🏮Review🏮: In Taiwan, I've usually encountered small pieces of octopus inside takoyaki. However, here, there's a generous amount of octopus filling, which is excellent! 🐔 Chicken Oyakodon (Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl) Taste Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑 🏮Review🏮: The overall seasoning is very good, but the only downside is that the rice is slightly soft. Cleanliness Rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 Service Attitude: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 Willingness to Revisit: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 This affordable Japanese restaurant in Auckland CBD has limited seating, and the staff seems to be primarily Japanese, providing friendly service.

As an Asian, this curry was so average. Anyone who cooks a lot can tell that this curry paste tastes very similar to a certain supermarket brand. Not a special curry sauce. The fried pork was ok, just the oil needs to be shaken out a bit more. The price is not cheap.

Very nice authentic Japanese cuisine. You have all your standard hearty Japanese dishes with bento box, Don and noodles.

Finally ate here after hearing all the hype and it definitely exceeded expectations! Highly recommended. Omurice and curry must try. It's really good 💯 Just a bit sad is no more cream puff.

Absolutely amazing, such a cute little atmosphere and food that was so delicious probably one of the best Udons I have had and the seasoning shaker given really topped it off

OMU RICE - A must have dish here. I did not think much of this place, as alot of the other dishes were similar to other places but at a higher price. BUT I saw that many people were ordering this Omu rice. Omu rice is like a savoury fried rice that is covered up by this moist omelette on top. Served with some gravy like sauce next to it. I ordered the large size and it was very filling. The staff were friendly and the food was delivered to the table timely. Restaurant was cute with Japanese touches throughout the place. I will be back again for the Omu rice!

Egg katsu with chicken and udon with kitsune was very good.

Got pork loin katsu gozen. Taste: 7.1/10 Food at Yoshizawa has definitely gotten better than before, could possibly due to their menu change. The service and pricing is pretty good as the staff are pretty friendly and the value of the meal is good. The katsu here has gotten better but there are potential improvements with their katsu. 1. Batter coating falling off (this is likely due to the excess moisture coming out as steam while being fried. The moisture drawn out after the salt seasoning could be the issue or the cut size of the loin could be the issue. A thinner piece of meat or a thinned out meat could be used for this. The meat could be dried better before applying the batter to avoid access steam too. 2. There is a very subtle gamey flavour of pork. Likely due to the quality of the cut or the way it’s handled (seasoning, storage) before cooking. But overall still pretty good place to eat, especially alone

What we ordered: - Chicken katsu gozen $16 - Miso katsu gozen (pork loin) $16 - Omurice small $14 - Red bean, sweet soy, soy bean dango $2.6 per piece I was so excited to find a place that sells omurice and dango and I was definitely not disappointed. Every dish was really good and definitely really affordable for the amount of food we got. Both of the gozens that we got were really great. The chicken katsu was not dry at all and the coating was super crispy, even when we ate the leftovers three hours later! The sauces that they came with were also super flavourful, and the dish was complimented really well with the fresh cabbage and potato salad. The miso katsu gozen was also really good. It's definitely a bit salty, hence the rice on the side, but the sauce was super thick and nutty and just went so well with the deep fried pork. The omurice was good but definitely not my favourite. It was a lot of fun to try after hearing so much about it but I think my expectations were just set too high after watching a bunch of chefs making it. Definitely not the same story as the dango though; I've been meaning to try it for such a long time and it was definitely my favourite part of the meal. I got one of each flavour and they were all so so good. The dango is so chewy and fun to eat and I loved absolutely every flavour. The sweet soy definitely isn't for everyone (I personally loved it) but the soy bean and red bean were pretty classic flavours for anyone looking to try it out. I'd go back just for the dango, it's just such a fun dish to eat!

I stopped by for lunch specifically to try their omurice. They are usually busy but I went around 1430 and they were quite empty. Their menu has a range of tasty-looking Japanese food but I came here to try the omurice. They did have a dessert cabinet by the counter and I ended up getting a mitarashi dango too. You are able to choose toppings with the omurice and the sauce you wanted, I went with a demiglaze omurice with pork katsu. The katsu was really nice. Good crispiness and nice flavour. The omurice itself was also quite nice. The egg was just set so it was almost like a custard. The fried rice underneath had a nice flavour and did have bits of pork in it. It was quite a tasty meal. The dango had a really nice texture and the flavour was good. Slight saltiness and a little sweet. It was interesting that the sauce was like jelly, covering the dango with a unique flavour. It is a nice place for really tasty Japanese food. Bear in mind that it is small so it could easily get crowded during a lunch rush, which I often see.

Pretty good food, very tasty and very well priced. A meal will only cost you around $15. Self service based and you need to order at the counter.

Yoshizawa deserves all the praise that comes its way. The menu has great variety - with a lot of fantastic deals on the whiteboard, from under $10 ranging till about $17. Their tarts and takoyaki are some of the most affordable and delicious in town. It's small but homely, and the staff are super friendly. Note that you order and pay at the counter - don't sit there waving your hands around like I did!

Great food at a great price! Food was amazing and the customer service was on point too! This is a tiny little hidden gem in the CBD. Portion sizes are sufficient. I had the Chicken Katsu Bento and the chicken meat was juicy and the breading was crispy.

I went there today for the first time and ordered pork fillet cutlet meal with pork miso soup. Cutlet were juicy with crispy outer coating being offered with Worcetershine sauce and one made from soy sauce and yuzu. It tasted very nice. However what made me be excited was the rice offered was not Indica rice but real Japonica rice. In New Zealand, most restaurant offer long-grain rice which tastes hard and dry so I usually leave half of it but today I ate it all! I recommend that all Japanese people who miss real Japanese rice should go enjoy its taste.

Want to come back and try a Dango for the very first time! So excited!

So delicious I've eventually got back in this restaurant! Everything's just been the same as I was here last year; so good old memory and just awesome✨ It's been special dinner time for me! I'll be back again! Recommend you come along for your delightful time

I accidentally ordered more dango than I needed, and when I went to get them from the cabinet I got less than I paid for. The front of house girl was really nice and noticed almost immediately, and she let me know so that I could get my money's worth. The dango was really nice and the staff here is really kind!! The food is excellent as well.

Friendly and fairly priced Japanese cuisine for university students. Adding few dollar makes a great happiness of pork miso soup :) lovely owner and great quality of katsu
Pritesh Mistry
I spent $45 for two, I don't feel like I got my moneys worth.... If it was cheaper then it would be decent student food. Otherwise it's trying to be more than it's worth. It claims to be authentic but I have not been to Japan so I cannot comment however I found what I orders to be similarly flavoured to the previous dish.
Jordan Janie
great costumer services and excellent food 10/10 would recommend to everyone

Always went here before and after exams. My good luck place to eat -- always went for their gozen sets and tried their beef sukiyaki which was delicious af. Never a sad eat with them. Their mitarashi dango is also a fave.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurant in the CBD. Highly recommended by my Japanese friend. Double Cream Puff is really good - super fresh and light sweet taste! Katsu Gozen is delicious as well, even the pickles are yummy and go well with rice.
Lisa V
Since my friend introduced me to this place I have come back soo many times. The gozen’s are good value for money and super tasty. The fav is the karaage chicken gozen. If you like super crispy stuff the katsu is also super yummy! The only thing is the place is quite small and can get full really quickly. It’s still worth the wait though!
Lone Diner
I had the omu curry. It tasted good, but the chicken/tomatoes fried rice inside the egg omelette only had two tiny pieces of chicken it, about the size of a finger nail. The beef curry sauce on top only has the sauce and onions, no beef at all.

Visited Yoshikawa with friends for lunch, they had a lot of menu items to try and all at very decent prices. I ordered the miso kastu Don with prawns and it was $13. I was not the biggest fan of the miso sauce however I really enjoyed the rice and prawns. Overall great spot for lunch at a fair price, would like to come back again and try the chicken Katsu curry.
Julirose Supremo
The food tastes ok and the staff were kind. But the portions are just a bit mediocre. We ordered beef curry, chicken curry, pork katsu and chicken karaage. The beef curry only has 5 tiny slices of beef, tho I didn’t really expect much for a 7$ curry. But for the 11$ chicken curry, you could at least expect a generous piece of meat and not like 2 chicken fingers that were just cut in half. As for the rice, this is an asian restaurant so you expect that they serve at least a cup full of rice! The rice served to us was like just a quarter cup that was spread out to look like its more than it actually is. Quite disappointed really.

Came in today with a friend for lunch. We ordered the egg katsu don with prawn, the tofu salad and for dessert, the red bean dango. Prawn was super crispy and soft, was able to eat the whole thing including the tail. Tofu salad sauce was delicious as always. Generous portions for the price. Dango also had a generous amount of red bean sauce. Love this place. Would definitely come again :)

Delicious eggs katsudon!!! love how the food has a homemade style to it... Salad was nicely textured but next time I will ask for less mayo. Price is definitely great for its food! We will come back!
Yen Retizos
It’s a small Japanese restaurant in the city. Looks average but the food is so yummy! Loved their omurice, takoyaki and udon. Will be coming back there for sure.

Boyfriend and I always go here when we crave donburi. This is the best donburi place ♡ I have only tried Miso Katsu Don & Miso Chicken Karaage Don, theyre the best dons ☆
Kylie
Somehow I’ve never noticed this place before even though I walk up and down this street a lot. Its a really nice and cozy place and the food is affordable. The omurice with curry was $11 and the squid was $5.

The omurice was good but the squid was really delicious and crispy. Definitely recommend trying it if you come here.

I dine here often because of the sweets that this store provides. All are very authentic and taste amazing. I also like how the store is always so tidy.

Great customer service, very friendly humble and accommodating. Tastes and flavors are amazing, I like the ambiance , Must try for everyone.

Their rice portion is way too generous in the donburi with the katsu cutlet being smaller than other Japanese restaurants in the CBD area.

I have tried the curry pork katsu and the miso katsu chicken. The miso sauce on the katsu was yum, but for the curry dish I found the flavour to be a bit bland.

The order is quickly processed (around 10 mins for the food to be served) and service was great.
Kirsten
Love this family run Japanese restaurant! Their Katsu set dishes are my go to. The Chicken Katsu is so crispy when you take your first bite. The give you two different types of sauces to dip in. The Katsu set includes miso soup, tea, pickled veges and a bowl of rice. Everything is just so perfect. We also ordered the Beef Udon. The broth was nice, not too salty. The udon was smooth and soft, not too chewy. I've also tried their sides; the deep fried calamari and their takoyaki! Both really good too.
Nanna Nyan
A small place, but truly a gem find. The food is cheap, but the food is tasty.
Takoyaki has plenty of octopus, and tofu salad is really good with the dressing. Salmon salad may not be what you expect though - it's still tasty, but if you are wanting to have that feeling when you bite into fish, you won't be getting it. It's more like a salmon paste.
The staff is always polite here, and I agree with the portions being quite generous from other review. Their dessert menu at the front is also very appealing.
Helen Roberts
Best miso soup I’ve ever had. I love this place, and go here at least once a week. The salmon teriyaki is great too, and the edamame is incredibly cheap.
SpoonMe
Have been here many times and the food is always consistently good.
My favourite place to eat comforting Japanese food. Being Japanese it’s hard to come across a Japanese place that tastes like something you’d get back home and in my opinion, this place is the closet you’d get here in Auckland.
I’ve tried the tofu donburi, takoyaki, miso Katsu, udon and cream puff and they’re all seriously so good!
Jifferney Lu
Went last week. The portion is good and the food is nice especially the hot plate with beef tongue with sauce , yum! Also the service is fast

This restaurant is really cheap price. The curry was 7dollars. The staff was really polite and kind. Small restaurant. If i want to eat cheap lunch, i would come here again. They got various desert as well.

Walk pass the store and decide to have lunch here but was utterly disappointed with the food quality! When the food arrive, it just 4 TINY cut of chicken crumb which taste like it has been fried for several time and 4 not even properly slice of radish with soggy rice! It is totally embarrassing that they willing to serve their customer this kind of food! (you can judge the food photo taken against their promoted photo) 🤮 Definitely not food worthy of $11!!

Atmosphere: ⭐️
Services: ⭐️ ⭐️
Food: not even worth a star!
The Poor Foodie
A hidden gem of Japanese food in the city! I was craving for tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlet) and surprisingly the set meal was only $13!
❤️: there are two prices for pork katsu (loin $13 or fillet $15) but since I’m so poor so I ordered pork loin. They freshly fried it for the order and it was so crispy outside! The pork was still juicy inside👍🏻 i was just gutted that there were only 5 pieces otherwise i could eat more and more.
Other things like salad, miso and marinated veg were pretty standard. Potato salad was really yum with some kinda of dressing (tasted somehow like mayo).
Dango with red bean paste was not too sweet and the rice ball was not too chewy
They actually have more gozen (set meal) written on the white board so don’t just look at the menu!
Will definitely come back to try other set meals❤️
Danny
Hidden Japanese gem in the city! I would highly recommend going for their katsu menu (which they are known for). I have tried their chicken katsu gozen (which is a surprisingly filling meal just for $13) as well as their karaage chicken and was impressed with both. Definitely want to try their more traditional ton katsu at some point!
Floyd Moratti
The food tastes amazing and menu very affordable. This is by no means a posh restaurant, but if you’re unconcerned with interior design I highly recommend this place. I’ve been coming here for over a year and had nothing but great experiences.
Amy Mah
The food here is amazing!!! If you are looking for a place to have a quick warm lunch or dinner, this is the place to be! I had the tempura udon as well as a yaki miso seafood udon, I would highly recommend the tempura udon and meals with udon and soup as they taste amazing without having a very dense feel to the soup; and you won't feel queasy after a meal.
EatR
It was a great place before. Staffs are still friendly but the meal doesn't good as before. Most of the things were salty and the fried chicken was not crispy.
Hotdog&Buns
Popular spot when it comes to lunch.

Tried their Japanese beef curry. Found a thin crumb of beef in there. I don't know what I was expecting for $7 but maybe a little more than that? Curry tasted a little sweet, had some sort of ketchup flavour to it. Not the type of Japanese curry I was expecting. It was too watery as well. Perhaps other dishes are much better?

Service: A little slow but staff was friendly.

AdLee
Most authentic outside of Japan in NZ. My mum polished her grilled ox tongue gozen without help. Sukiyaki was flavourful with enough sweet and salty to give that kick to the tastebuds. A hidden gem of Auckland.
Tina Yu
Amaaaazing desserts, definitely recommend getting a sweet treat like the creme puffs after their nice homely food sets. Good value for money, and pretty tasty.
Luke Canes
I love this place. Food tastes great, good serving sizes, reasonable price, friendly stay. A great place to constantly go to. I highly recommend it

I used to like this restaurant because of its great customer service and food, but when I and my partner went there for the first time in about 6 months, everything has changed. I had a pork Katsudon but the pork smelled funny, which never happened before. The worst part was that the all the staff were chatting in the kitchen and none of them came to our table to take an order. Some of them did see us waiving but still pretended not to see us and went on chatting. Utterly disappointed because it used to be a really cool restaurant, but now it seems to have degenerated into a D-rated fast food restaurant quality where no one in there cares about the customer experience. Never going back again.

I went this place beautiful Japanese place for lunch with my friends. The quality & quantity of food is good.price is very reasonable only 13$ for lunch meal.customer service is good.
yes 100% worth visit.
Benedict Uy
Stopped by just for the double cream puff. There were also signs on the door for dango. Took one of each for takeaway. The place is quite small but most of the tables were filled. Already had lunch so didn't get to try the meals although they looked decent price wise.
Raymond Tiong
I ordered the chicken miso katsu don. There was nothing remarkable about it, but it definitely wasn’t bad. Quite a lot of cabbage but not that much green salad, so I’m glad I ordered the salmon salad as well.

That being said, I wasn’t impressed with the salmon that came in this salad; it was basically minced (whereas I was expecting it to come out as strips of delicately sliced sashimi). The ‘wasabi jus’ gave a flavourful lift to the dish though.

I don’t think this place is as good as The Don or Mentatz nearby. It’s decently priced and there are some seasonal menu items dotted around the walls. At the front counter are some interesting Japanese desserts, too. But overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to return or recommend Yoshizawa; plenty of better options around.
Stewart Forsyth
Good, tasty food (I recommend the tofu, friends liked the smoked eel, and the green tea chocolate - on the counter - pretty special!), excellent value, nice atmosphere and very friendly - we loved it.
Mon Tara
The best Japanese restaurant in NZ. Price is reasonable and food is amazing. You can even get five dollar discount once you filled half of your point card.
S2Psycho
A Japanese restaurant middle of a big town, abit hard to find. Went in for high hopes, but came out abit dissatisfied. We orded Udon, and Donkatsu, the batter on my prawn tempura was undercooked, and the Meat (pork) for donkatsu was raw. They made us a new batch, with no problem. I had no problem with the service, they were really nice! Food came out in like 10mins, food tasted really good!! It is a 3 cause of the raw meat and batter.
Kiwi Eats Asia
I love yoshizawa. It is probably my favourite Japanese restaurant in Auckland for price and quality. Tastes like Japan! Not just katsu and teriyaki here! They have a great selection of grilled fish (saba, sanma and salmon) on their special menu on the wall (this is where I like to order as I love trying their new dishes). I recommend all fish dishes as they seriously know their grilled / stewed fish and especially if they're doing the kabayaki sanma (sweet soy grilled sanma fish I believe, for only $12) still - wow this was amazing. The stuff I eat in my dreams. Each set comes with a rice bowl, Japanese pickles, miso soup, a mini salad and a green tea cup. Portions are not large but I just feel so happy seeing all the little dishes laid out beautifully like yoshizawa does. Drop by and try something (remember - fish!) and then finish it off with something sweet - their cream puffs and dango are also delightful. Best taste of Japan in the city in my opinion - go go go!

This is THE place to go if you're craving Japanese food, cheap and delicious 😋😋 love their teriyaki chicken udon and anything with miso sauce 💓 portion is generous too. Also have a go at their cream puff, it’s amazing as well. Highly recommended!!!

I ordered the Chicken Gozen Nanban, the Black Sesame Dango and the Mitarashi Dango.

I started off with the Black Desame Dango which was cold so the dango was a bit more firmer to chew on. I would have prefer it if the dango was slightly softer. Dango's are little balls of glutinous rice on a wooden skewer that are soft, sticky and chewy to chew on. Usually each skewer would have about 4 balls of dango. The black sesame topping was below average. They used whole sesame seeds with some sugar I think. It would be much better if they had roasted and crushed the black sesame into powder and mixed it with some sugar before coating the dango.

The next thing I ate was the Mitarashi Dango. This dango has a sticky soya sauce and sugar coating on it which was absolutely delicious! They were able to balance the saltiness from the soya sauce and the sweetness to the sugar at the right levels, bringing lots of sweet and savoury flavours to the dango which usually has a plain rice-cy taste.

Finally I had the Chicken Nanban Gozen. I thoroughly enjoyed eating this meal set. I started off by drinking the miso soup that has small pieces of tofu and seaweed in it. The miso they used in the soup was delicious and they put in just the right amount so thay you get a resonably strong taste of the miso without it being too salty. It was very appetizing.

Next were the pieces of fried chicken covered in a generous amount of Tartare sauce on top. I didn't see the Nanban sauce (sweet and sour vinegar sauce). Reading a blog about the sauce, apparently the chicken is soaked in the Nanban sauce before serving. That must be why the chicken is not as crispy as I expected but that was still some crispyness to it. I ate a morsel of the bite size but fairly big fried chicken coated on top with the tartare sauce and it was really good. The tartare sauce had the mayo taste to it and it is slightly sweet with a hint of sourness. I soon ate it with some rice to complement it. Sitting beside the bowl of rice was a bowl pickled veges which mostly sour with a hint of sweetness. It was good on its own but taking a bite of this together with the chicken and rice makes an amazing combo that made me want more of the same taste. The sourness of the pickled veges were very appetizing.

The dish also had a side of seasoned mashed potatoes and salad with sesame sauce. Both were delcious and complemented everything else in the dish. There were no flavours that clashed. You could eat the mash potatoes together with rice, chicken and pickled vegetables and it would add another level of texture and taste to your tastebuds.

The portion size of the Chicken Nanban was just about almost enough. Probably anothet 2 or 3 pieces and that would have fully satisfied me and I would be glad to pay a bit extra. But for $13.50 it was well priced for a meal of that size. Not only that, the meal was prepared really quick. I told the lady I was in a bit of a rush and asked her how long it would take to prepare the meal and she said 7 minutes. I didn't count it with a stopwatch but it defnitely felt like under 7 minutes.

All in all, I enjoyed my meal and will be back for more.

Had the Omurice with chicken katsu on top. The taste is very homely with Tomatoe frie rice inside the egg. Restaurant was full by 12:30, popular place.

Came here with a friend two years back. The Teriyaki Donburi is my favourite from this place.

It has that cafe like feel in terms of the layout and placement of the tables and chairs.

The rice is nice and soft along with the sauce to make that blend of flavour, great service and they're really kind too.
Hui Bai
Simply put, the best Japanese restaurant in city in term of taste, service and quality consistency. The waitress is super nice :) the place you feel comfortable eating alone
Michelle Chua
Been here many times with my boyfriend. Always have their teriyaki chicken and honestly think it is one of the best teriyaki chicken in Auckland. Been to a couple of Japanese restaurant still think Yoshizawa served the best teriyaki. Also desserts and omurice are good haven't had them in a long time but first knew that place on omurice and desserts! Must go! 😁
Amber
I was so disappointed! I absolutely adore Miso Katsu but this, I couldn't even eat it.

The sauce had bascially cooked itself onto the chicken, the chicken was so slimey it fell out of the crumb as soon as you picked it up and it just smelled of boiled chicken - for $11 this should be epic and I'm so sad to say it wasn't
:(
On a positive note, the layout of the restaurant was nice as were the staff ..
Annie Ren
Yoshizawa is tucked way on a busy street and with its small entrance, it is easy to miss! Just to put it out there they need to seriously work on their mains (anything with katsu 1.5/5) but they have some killer desserts that I'd easily give 5/5 for!

A friend and I had the chicken katsu don and pork katsu gonza for lunch, none of our katsu meats were properly done... The crumbly/fried skin doesn't even stay on top of the meat; falls apart when you pick them up and also there many fats (I don't know which part of the animal did they take the meat from...) the sauces on the meat was also a bit dried up...Apart from the horrible meat, my rice kinda of all stuck together in big lumps while the salad didn't have any dressing at all. I don't usually give bad reviews, but I'm sorry Yoshizawa, your katsu don is really not up to the $11 standard.

The desserts, however, was absolutely AMAZING (I'd rate this place 1/5, but the desserts saved the day). We ordered an apple tart and their signature matcha cream puffs and they were honestly out of this world. The puff was light and airy and inside the cream and a mousse-like green tea made it a banger! The pastry base of the apple tart was also very yummy; crumbly and had a rich taste. Moreover these 2 desserts are not very sweet and it was perfect after our lunch...

Overall, I'd definitely come here again and again, but only for their desserts.
Sarah L
Our favourite takeaway place!
The miso katsu gozen is to die for.
Friendly staff, and definitely a cute little atmosphere!
The location is very convenient too.
Manic Diner
I popped into Yoshizawa last week but as it was hot I was only in the mood for a quick dessert treat so ordered their double cream puff to go. When I arrived home 10 minutes later I was amazed at how preserved it was...with the heat I had expected a big sloppy mess but it was as perfect as when I bought it. Biting into it, I was immediately hit with the cool whipped cream and chilled custard creme within the light, airy choux pastry. It was delicious and not overly sweet. I should have grabbed two!
Jr
Simply the best in the city. They are always smiling and the food is really good. The decoration is simple but the quality of their products is really high. They always propose a selection of " chef s special ", which is really interesting.
William Kim
I went to yoshizawa on the recommendation of a friend. The store was cosy and neatly tucked away on Victoria Street. I ordered a kaki furai gozen and a chicken karage side. The meal wasn't too expensive but I received a good amount of food. The flavours were very authentic and the food was presented very well.

Hang on for a sec, I'm still reeling from all the carbs I consumed :D the sweet options available made it so difficult to choose, I mean, there weren't "a LOT" a lot, but being a dango fan, I just can't choose one. Therefore I ended up getting the kinako dango as well as the red bean one, and a matcha cream puff too. The cream puff custard was smooth and not overly sweet with a hint of matcha to keep things fresh. The pastry was also quite crunchy unlike some profiteroles or éclairs.
The lady at the counter was also very sweet and helpful when she saw I wanted to take away my leftovers ( I overestimated my appetite). The self servicing way is cool, too.
The only thing I think needs improvement is probably brightening up the place and having more tea options, but those are no biggie;-)
Best ever!! So creamy and skin really yummy! I had fried chicken don and my friend has egg chicken katsu don, they are really nice! Also we had takoyaki oh man, it's superb!!
Cream puff is another must to have at this place!!!!!

I live in Hamilton, sometimes I go to Auckland with my husband and Yoshizawa is our best choice for meal. I really like the chef's special. For example, the Beef tongue Gozen and the Aji Furai Gozen are our flavor! Btw, the dessert are also amazing! Especially the cream puff. Today we both try to taste the green tea cheesecake and Yuzu cheesecake. They are so awesome!

Chicken Miso Katsu Gozen for dinner :) i changed my miso soup from simple miso soup to PORK miso soup !!! Just plus 1 dollar .... It's really a good decision lol pork miso soup is so yummy ! And the special one in my opinion is sweet sauce above chickens.

On the outside, this little Japanese eatery doesn't look like much but don't be fooled by the exteriors as I can assume that this is a fairly new business and they are trying to keep unnecessary costs down and spend it on where it matters, which is of course the food!

I have long searched for a place where they serve traditional Japanese set meals, which consists of a bowl of rice, miso soup, small side of pickles and a main dish, and Yoshizawa ticks all the boxes.

I came here with my wife and we ordered the Prawn Katsu Gozen and the Chicken Karaage Gozen, and we were not disappointed at all. The quality and presentation of the food is perfect and exactly what you would get if you were to walk into a similar Japanese 'tei-shoku' eatery in Japan itself.

They also have a small cabinet that sells sushi, and deserts. I hear that the cream puffs are incredibly popular and always sell out everyday, so I bought the very last one they had and it was divine. A very good balance between the cream, sugar and custard filling.

I would definitely come back again without any hesitation.
