This is a very unique pizza place. Usually I separate pizza into two kids: the authentic Italian and the more commercial versions with western toppings. The Proper Pizza Company manages to thread the line between the two, making some really fancy pizzas, but they also feel like they're quite innovative in their toppings. I particularly enjoyed the sesame in the crust. The shop is quite nice with a very relaxing vibe and the two workers who were there when I went were really friendly (the man even got us two fresh glasses of water when ours ran out - not something you'd expect at a pizza place). The food came out really quickly as well. I'll definitely be back to try a few of their other pizzas!

Great pizza! Was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by how good the pizza tasted. It was fresh crispy and flavourful. The waffle fries were also fresh and super crispy. We ordered 2 30cm pizzas and 2 servings of fries for a group of 5 and were all full by the end and only paid around $15 each. Great value!!

Fantastic place to relax, central to the action in CBD. The pizza with lettuce, tomato on it was sooooo nice, then the pepperoni pizza so so much better than other pizza’s, the crust was unusual with sesame seeds, it was different and tasted really nice, the third pizza was cheese and i think it was truffle, I only got a couple bits here as it went real quick. I’ll be back.

Proper Pizzas were so authentic and on par with the best pizza we have experienced at the home of Pizza, Naples. The thin base reminded me of the typical Napoli’s thin pizza base. The Proper Pizza pizza is my favourite and we have had many from the wide range. We certainly recommend Proper Pizzas for a great pizza.

The best part about level 3 was having Black Truffle pizza again after a month without it! I'm a huge fan of thin firm crust and pine nuts! The quality of the cheese and ingredients beats every other pizza outlet in New Zealand in my opinion and their unique toppings give amazing flavour that no where else provides! Not to mention the heart shaped pizzas on request! Bring on level 2 and dine in!

The pizzas here are amazing. The waldorf salad was incredible. I really feel however that for the price of the pizza I would prefer more options on condiments. The option of cream balsamic on the side would be great. Other sauces beside just siracha would have been nice. Regardless, the pizzas weren’t oily, the flavour profiles were fantastic. Just a few more additions and it would be perfect! Paper plates would be helpful, but if they’re being environmentally conscious then that’s fine. Just more condiments! Please.

We ordered pepperoni and proper pizza. The food quality and quantity are good but little salty. The size was reasonable. We ordered 40cm and 30cm with 3 people. The price was little bit expensive because we paid 25nzd per 1 (include coke). It located near by albert park. The restaurant's atmosphere was cozy and classic. Service also nice and kind. It took 20 to 30 minutes to serve us. Everything was good but there were so many birds flied in restaurant.

Proper Pizza does interesting flavoured pizzas with premium cheeses and a thin sesame sprinkled crust. They cook them in the ovens right before your eyes. The pizza with truffle slices is their signature and delicious. It's also affordable, with snack sizes or larger sizes depending on how you feel. We also tried the cheeseburger pizza, which was not bad. It got soggy quite quickly which then made slices hard to lift with the toppings in place, but otherwise it did taste like a patty rich cheeseburger. My recommendations would be for the truffle pizza that's their signature, and the Parma di crudo to cut the grease.

Pleasantly surprised! <br/>We ordered the Proper Pizza 40cm Round on uber eats as we got back home late from holiday. <br/>I’m personally not a fan of thin crust but again was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the pizza. The cheese was very tasty. Very skimpy on the extra meat considering you pay $4 for extra. We also were not fans of the sesame crust (we’d prefer a garlic of plain crust). Other than that we are keen to try out other pizza options in the future 👍🍕

Ordered 20cm black truffle and blue veins chicken but 20cm is just "snacks" size for me, it's quite small tbh. Perhaps for those really hungry need to order something bigger. Black truffle taste special and suitable for me, it has lots of mushroom taste. Chicken one with lots cheese, taste good also. They side the pizza with sesame seeds which gives aroma, good! I love proper pizza. Our work orders it often for us and I often use my Zomato and bring friends to introduce them to the delicious pizza. This time I was disappointed with the poor service. The guy serving was very snappy when I asked if I could do half and half pizza. Apparently too good for us Zomato users, even though I’ve had it done before. Was happy to pay extra but it was not even able to be discussed, the idea was shut down with a rude comment made about previous management allowing the wrong things to happen. To be honest the service was a lot better under old management! Thankfully the pizza still tastes good- I would hop it did for waiting 30 mins for it’s be made! Not a fast food place. Only come here if you have time and don’t mind bad service.

I went back I love it so much. My first review for some reason was sent before I actually completed it. Sal is good Pizza and traditional but Proper is the Rolls Royce of Pizza with a super thin crust and carefully originally chosen toppings .i leave tomorrow but whenever I come back to Auckland I will return . Love it. Kudos to the creators and I hope to be able this kind of Pizza again .

The front one is their signature proper pizza and the back one is black truffle 🖤pizza, super thin crust with a spread of white sesame on the edge, love it😋 they are on Zomato Gold 1+1 which makes it an amazing deal and their 60cm ones looks impressive, would love to try it when having a bigger party! Dirty, overpriced and average service to sum it up... Almost 50 bucks for pizza that was just as average as Pizza Hut ... no ice cream or crumble on the apple crumble pizza and was raw and just not nice to put it mildly. The other pizza was ok, but no way was it worth $27... uneven topping with barely any meat, seemed more like a dominos $5 pizza!! Floor was filthy, tables not cleaned and the staff seem uninterested in their job. First thing we were told when we walked in the door was there was a 30min wait, but there was barely anyone in the store... lots of potential, but don't see what the fuss is about won't be coming back and would rather stick to sals 👍

But jaded though from the service which dropped a star for me. <br/><br/>Last time I came here they told me that they would only accept Zomato gold on the 1+1 pizzas for the 40cm pizza or larger. No problem got two 40 cm pizzas and had some left to take away. This time I go back and they tell me it now only applies to 30 cm pizzas or smaller and then when I asked for a take away box they want to charge an extra $1. Bit annoying with the lack of empathy about the inconsistency when raised. Staff eventually conceded and gave us a take away box for free but maybe some clarity about why you’ve changed your approach would be helpful. No details on Zomato about these size exclusions.

Was really looking forward to trying this place after seeing their ratings but I was left feeling disappointed. Maybe my mistake was ordering the cheeseburger pizza as most of the other reviewers tried something else? There was way too much lettuce and not enough meat nor cheese. My friend's proper pizza was pretty good but overall wasn't too special.<br/><br/>The waffle fries were however amazing and the restaurant's located in a cute little spot ideal for people-watching.

Those loaded fries were amazing! The cheese sticks could have been better it wasn’t for me.... the cheeseburger pizza wouldn’t have been something that I would have ordered but sooooo glad that I did. It tasted exactly like a cheeseburger which was soooo weird but great. The truffle pizza looked and smelt amazing but it’s definitely an acquired taste. I tried the pepperoni pizza here. I thought the flavours were nice and the sesame seeds around the edge were an interesting touch. The base was a bit of a let down though. The edge was crispy but the middle was thin and soggy. It was difficult to eat the pizza because the base was not crispy in the middle and the toppings would just fall off every piece.

For $66 I bought two pizzas, the first one was good, but the second one came out 15 minutes later, after we asked what had happened to it, it was stone cold and missing half the toppings as well. The remainder toppings were bought out in a paper cup another 10 minutes later, and at this point the pizza was basically gone because I was starving from having to wait so long, I gave in and ate the cold pizza. Not recommended, and won’t be visiting again unfortunately. :( Just a rip off for service and food quality.

First of all. i don't really write down and believe in reviews. i belive chefs in restaurant always try to deliver good food for the customers. but i'm writing down this because management of proper pizza need to know about what happened.<br/><br/>me and my partner ordered pizza for late dinner by Uber. we ordered 2 pizzas. and one of them was burnt at bottom. another one was okay.<br/><br/>so we try to reach proper pizza. is it supposed to be like that. Maybe its proper pizza's way how to present their pizza.<br/><br/>My partner called and spoke with one of staff and respond was ' oh that pizza..ah...' that part made us let down.<br/>We were expecting some explanation. but nothing. After that point we ask we dont wanna this pizza which we already paid and ask staff what we can do about it. And Answer was 'we cant do anything about it'.<br/><br/>After hang up the phone to check Uber eat policy. we call back try to double check what we can do. And my partner heard over the phone staff were whispering ' its THAT WOMAN AGAIN' well, yes its that woman called again.<br/><br/>it was really unpleasant experience with proper pizza. and i think management should know about what happened.<br/><br/>

This was my second time coming here because I loved the truffle pizza so much the first time. We ordered the truffle pizza (again) and the blue vein garlic chicken pizza. Both were absolutely delicious- truffle pizza wins this round again though. Was a little sad the blue cheese flavour wasn’t as strong as the garlic but it’s okay the pizza was still amazing. <br/>The crust is so crispy and has sesame seeds! Which I actually quite like. With all the different pizzas I’ve had from here, each and every combination of the toppings go so well together I wonder if proper pizza even has a bad pizza. We used zomato gold and me being dumb asked for a takeaway box (not allowed with zomato gold!!) but the man who served us (and may I say the service is lovely) was kind enough to let us off this once. After deliberating for a length of time, my friend and I ordered the 30cm proper pizza and the 30cm chicken pizza.<br/><br/>We ended up receiving the chicken pizza and a pepperoni pizza instead (pictured). When the staff realised this, they came back and were kind enough to let us keep the pepperoni and make the proper pizza for us to take away (forgot to take a pic cos food coma).<br/><br/>All of the pizzas were delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Added plus of having Zomato Gold as well.<br/><br/>I must also say, the sesame seed crusts are unique and add an extra level of savoury crunch! Love it!

Aromatic and cheesy pizzas with very thin bases and sesame seed crusts. I’m not a big fan of thin base pizzas but this one had nice gourmet toppings. The truffle pizza had pine nuts and mushrooms and quite a tart taste. The pepperoni was cheesy and had nice tomato flavors and salami spices. It seemed like the pepperoni pizza was hotter in temperature than the truffle so the cheese on the truffle pizza got hard and dry within 5 minutes making it unpleasant to eat. Good choice of sizes. The 30 inch is definitely enough for one person. Without zomato gold, it wouldn’t be worth the $22-26 price per pizza. Really tasty loaded fries but they should have specified it was cross cut waffle type instead of regular French fries because that’s what I was wanting. Not much topping on the fries which is slightly disappointing

Drove into the city to try this place based on the good reviews. 35 minutes later we were still waiting, and when we asked if the pizza was ready, we were told it wasn’t made yet but it would only take 5 minutes. It wasn’t busy at all, and there was only 1 other table who were already eating. The sole operator said that she had lots of Uber orders. The advertising material in store said it only took 4 mins for a pizza to cook. Asked for a refund and left.

Tried this place after a drinking sessions with friends on a rainy Sunday, service was pretty quick as we were the only people there, the place was very well appointed, they have a good variety of flavours and toppings. We ordered the meaty macho and blue vein garlic chicken in personal size, pizza crust was thin and crusty, from both the flavours blue vein garlic chicken was my favourite, it blue cheese flavour was quite subtle and packed with a punch of garlic flavour. Would definitely go back to try the other flavours.

So awesome that proper pizza has Zomato gold so we were able to score two 20cm pizzas for $12! <br/><br/>The 20cm is the perfect size a one person and you are able to take what you do eat home. I really enjoyed the proper pizza because the crust was thin and crispy, there was a lot of toppings and it tasted fresh. I really like the pepperoni and pastrami combination and I also really liked the sesame seeds! The toasted sesame seeds add a nice depth of flavour. <br/><br/>Really enjoyed the variety proper pizza offers and the price is well worth it.

Came to this place because of Zomato Gold, and it is SO worth it!<br/><br/>I got the Black Truffle and the Meaty Macho. The only regret was not getting the 30cm pizzas. (To be fair the staff working asked if we were sure that we wanted the 20cm and not the 30cm a few times). The prices are very affordable, and you can definitely get to try a lot of different flavours. <br/>I highly highly recommend the Black Truffle, it's my absolute favourite. A pizza chain that comes from the Balkans, I didn’t have a lot of expectations in terms how great the pizzas here could be. Surely just better than Dominos and Pizza Hutt? One of the few places with Zomato Gold, we had the Proper Pizza, Crudo Di Parma, Black Truffle and the Circle of Life. <br/> <br/>In terms of favorites I’ll have to recommend the Black Truffle being a favorite, particularly fragrant and flavorsome it was a table favorite. What was interesting though was the Proper Pizza, the ingredients that they state for what’s on it are proper meat and proper cheese. Like what does proper cheese and meat even mean? Does that mean all the other pizza’s don’t use proper cheese and meat? What are they using then? <br/><br/>The dessert pizza was pretty awesome, not too sweet in my opinion however the crust couldn’t of been crisper for a better flavor contrast. <br/><br/>Showstopper: Black truffle and dessert pizzas were clear favorites.<br/>Overall Grade: B+

We ordered the Blue Vein Garlic Chicken and Meaty Macho both 30cms, to share between two people.<br/><br/>As we were the only table there at the time, the pizzas came out very quickly. We probably only waited around 10 minutes.<br/><br/>I absolutely loved the blue vein garlic chicken flavour. There was just a subtle hint of the blue cheese which was good as it wasn’t overpowering. Every bite was just as amazing as the first. Loved the meatballs on the meaty macho. The thin crust was perfect and I was intrigued to see a ring of sesame seeds on the crust, but was pleasantly surprised as it worked very well with the pizza as a whole.<br/><br/>Friendly service, plenty of seating, good ambience inside.

Treated myself to this for the first time today and not only did I get to enjoy a delicious lunch, the politeness and respectfulness of the managers blew me away. I felt welcomed immediately, not rushed at all, and sometimes that really makes the difference. I want to give a shout out to Paul and Thomas who made the meal super enjoyable by helping me decide and telling me a bit about their place. Since when do you see managers working front of house and tieing in with the other staff and not just watching other employees? Also major props for being open till 4am! How have I never been here before?

I understand that with zomato gold you have to eat inside the restaurant however we had some left over and I kindly asked if we could have a pizza box for our last slices and they (the two men) just ignored or looked at me with a face of disgust and they were like no. It would have been fine if they would have said "sorry we can't" in a decent way but the way they went about this was atrocious. Will not be coming here again.

PROPER. Living up to their name, Proper Pizza makes finger-licking/palm-licking/fist-licking good pizzas. I’m not usually a fan of pizza but I loved their thin base and perfect portions of toppings - I was eating so fast I could’ve eaten my own hand! Their 60cm pizzas is one proper way to wow your guests, otherwise you can opt for smaller sizes they have available.<br/><br/>While I feel Auckland still has a long way to be able to claim there are plenty of restaurants that offer authentic, 5-star Italian cuisine, this at least brings us closer to the dream and definitely challenges the pizza scene.<br/><br/>Located near Chancery Square at 12D O’Connell Street.

We ordered two 30cm pizzas with the Zomato Gold membership. This membership makes it so worth, $26 for both. We got the truffle and pepperoni toppings. The truffle was surprisingly tasty and had the distinct truffle flavour. Very cheesey and definitely moreish. The pepperoni had the most amazing herbed tomato base. The pizza base itself was a little soggy but this can be overlooked.

One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Ordered the Blue Vein Garlic Chicken as well as criss cross fries. Pizza crust was thin and the toppings were fantastic. Fries were very cripsy and delicious. Me and my friend had the pleasure to visit Proper Pizza on a busy Friday evening and the place was buzzing with good vibes! <br/><br/>We took a seat outside and were recommended the black truffle, proper pizza and the crudo di parma pizzas (which we got in half half). <br/><br/>I don’t normally have truffle, but the black truffle pizza was amazing! It had the perfect combination of flavours on a nice thin base. The crudo di parma is a popular pizza here, it tasted so fresh and I could see why it’s so loved! Three types of cheeses for the cheese lover out there. <br/><br/>The proper pizza was my favourite, with pastrami, mushrooms and olives. I highly recommend this one! They also have dessert pizzas and Ben & Jerry’s but we were too full, the portions are so good. <br/><br/>Proper pizza is also available on Ubereats, so I’ll definitely be placing an order soon to try the other pizzas.

They're thin crispy base pizzas with sesame seeds sprinkled all around for a different but really good taste. They were both really tasty and would highly recommend both. Nice ambient setup, good music, good flow. The food is great, and considering I’m gluten free the pizza bass is quite nice, doesn’t take away much from the overall flavour, slight char on the base but that’s fine, generally gluten free stuff is underdone at restaurants which results in a nasty texture and taste, but proper pizza just about nails it on the head. My mates have had margarita pizzas (normal base) and they both thought it was real good. Great customer service, had interesting chats with the man who I assume is the owner (he may not be but still great service). Overall 5/5 would recommend and definitely going back!

You have to try this pizza.. I’m in love! The Black Truffle Pizza is an absolute must, I thought it might have a small sprinkle of truffle but it’s loaded! The base of every pizza was perfectly cooked, crisp and surprisingly not oily.. they also have sesame seeds in every crust which tastes great. The service was speedy and friendly and the location is really nice- a great spot to people watch. My only concern is that now I know that these guys are open till 3am every day and do Uber Eats I feel like I might get addicted...! :)

How often can you get a 60cm pizza? It's not like we needed one that big (lasted us over two days), but since it was possible we got the 60cm truffle pizza. The base was just the right thickness for my liking and the sesame seeds added excellent flavour. They never skimped on the topping either, plenty of truffle and overall it was super tasty. Definitely will become one of my favorite go-to pizza places in Auckland. We got it to takeaway but the restaurant looked clean and inviting, and the staff were super nice. We'll definitely be back....oh and as a sidenote it was equally as good the next day. Great job proper pizza.

This was our second attempt to redeem our free pizzas as the first time we came, it was super popular, and there was a long wait.<br/><br/>Service: 7/10<br/>The staff was welcoming and friendly, they weren’t put off by us not actually spending any money.<br/>They went straight into making the pizzas and proudly served us our order.<br/>The pizzas were made in the fastest time possible since they are freshly made.<br/><br/>Food: 8/10<br/>The voucher was for one 20cm margarita pizza.<br/>The crust and base was airy and crispy, the slight burntness gave off a nice bitterness to each bite.<br/>The tomato base was light and not overpowering. The cheese was melted and stringy. The seasoning didn’t overpower the sauce and the sesame seeds were aromatic. The mozzarella was fresh and creamy.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 8/10<br/>The restaurant is more modernised than your typical NYC pizzeria. The tables and benches are wooden, displaying a simplistic theme. There are also lounge chairs for a more homely feel. <br/>There are bright lights which attract your attention.<br/>There is pop music playing for a more hip style. <br/><br/>I enjoyed my experience and I will likely be back to try the 60cm or dessert pizzas with my friends.

Pretty good pizza place in city. The place is big and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had magarita and black truffle. They were pretty good. I like thin base pizza and this place did well. First time having black truffle on pizza and I had to say it was pretty delicious.

The pizzas are different and innovative but tasty. They might not have bold flavours but I love the harmonies between the ingredients. It’s a high quality pizza. The crust is thin but enough. It doesn’t make you feel bloated. They put more toppings than others. Friendly staff. A 30 cm pizza is good price and satisfying for a person. They go as big as 60cm. I recommend their signature Proper Pizza, although we love the cheeseburger and white chicken too.

New wood fired pizza joint on O'Connell street! The place is super nice and cosy and they also offer takeaways. Proper pizza prides themselves on making pizza in front of your eyes and it's such an experience in itself watching magic being made at Proper pizza by the chefs. They do a variety of pizza flavours and sizes that came at very affordable prices. Between the two of us, we got the 40cm pizza to share, trying three different flavours - Blue vein chicken, truffle and the BURGER flavour. I loved the creativity in flavour and also the crusty pizza texture. Each bite gives a satisfying crunch, paired with the toppings, cheese and seasoning - heaven on earth! Blue vein chicken was probably my favourite, it was topped with generous slices of chicken, there were ample blue cheese and I'm also a big fan of the buffalo chicken sauce. I thought the use of sesame seeds on their crusts was definitely the icing on the cake! It added another flavour profile to the pizza. I would definitely recommend everyone to check out Proper pizza - super tasty pizza that's also amazing value for money.

Absolutely solid place to grab a quick bite, got their online promotion for a free pizza and checked it out, and the pizzas were great, service was friendly and attentive and overall just a really nice spot. It makes more sense to buy a bigger pizza here, (60cm for 40$) which overall is well worth. Their sesame seed crust really adds a different touch to the pizza makes so much better!

Got a 20cm Margherita pizza for free thanks to their social media event. Went there at 6pm and I was the only customer. They made your pizza right in front of you:) although the pizza was small, they put lots and lots of cheese and put it in the oven. Smells and tastes so nice! It was really cheesy but not too greasy. I particularly like the sesame seeds sprinkled around the edge (just because I’m a big lover of sesame seeds:) <br/>Staff were super nice and I also see that they have Ben n jerry icecream selling there. But the pizza is at the pricey end.<br/><br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Overall: 4/5

We were looking for a place to eat, and thought a walk up Vulcan Lane, would give us a place to eat. We reached the top without success and we saw the sign for Proper Pizza. I thought let's give this place a try. We were pleasantly surprised at the helpfulness of selecting our pizza and let us have a 50/50 of two flavours. It was one of the best Pizzas I have had and will come back again.

Great pizza, crisp base, tasty but not greasy. Best thing though was the sheer size of the largest one.... enormous. Got them delivered to Northcote by Uber Eats.

That was the best pizza experience I have ever had! The uniqueness of the bases! Love the sesame seeds! Beaut taste. The variety is amazing! Will be back for sure!

Went for the first time last night! What can I say, the pizzas were just amazing! A nice crisp not soggy crust like so many other places. We shared the Black Truffle, Margarita and Cheeseburger Pizza's and finished off with the Apple Crumble Pizza. The flavours were spot on! If you are in the city, you need to check this place out!

Nice location, although not a lot of seating so worth pre-booking as a group. Menus only list pizzas by name, with no ingredients, so you have to ask what each one comes with. Some of the pizzas ordered were burnt on the base. I found it hard to distinguish flavours on my Proper pizza, with an overall quite bland taste. Water for the tables was also hit and miss whether it was cold or luke warm. Better than Dominos, but for the price, could be improved.
