Review The Mustard Kitchen - Auckland Central

Been hanging around this place since they opened. Never had a bad meal yet. Their pie game is legendary and they have other great lunch options. Think of a gourmet lunch bar but better. Beautiful spot to sit in the sun on a nice day like today. Sterling Arnet Kakapo Business Sales

Silky smooth coffee and delicious treats await you at this gem of a cafe in Morningside. It’s always busy for a reason. Its sister cafe on Mt Eden Road is just as epic. You decide..

This was a surprising find, it's more of a pass-by lunch bar than an actual sit in and dine eatery, but there's still some seating outside and some high chairs inside. The food are your casual pies and sandwiches sort of pick, but they're of really good quality. I got the steak and mushroom pie and they have actual chunky pieces of steak in them, with big slices of button mushrooms. They've also got a cute little garden area down the back with more seating. Would definitely come back .

This is not a bad spot to grab a quick lunch if you're on the go. The gyoza was not bad (pork and chives, by the way) , and the pies are pretty good. Would really love it if there were some more salad options. It's hard to get excited about, but I do like the stuff I get from here, especially if I'm just looking for a quick light lunch or bite.

Excellent chicken and leek pie today for $9. Huge pieces of chicken a very full pie. Recommended.

Nice n cozy cafe. Serving Kokako organic coffee, which is always 👌

I looked up a bunch of cafes online, shortly after moving back to Auckland just before Christmas. My partner and I had the fortune of finding this gem of a cafe in Morningside. The pies we had here were AWESOME. A couple of the best pies we've ever had! Sausage roll, banh mi roll, and coffee are all top-notch too! Looking forward to our next visit :-)

About an year ago I started on my new job in the area and was searching for a good coffee place due to past experiences. After spending a good deal of time and money on surrounding coffee shops I stumbled upon this cute little Cafe and boy have I been a satisfied client for almost a year now. So yeah this review was pending for a while 😇😃. Some great savory items, amazing coffee the attending staff is always very kind. Either I am lucky or some great barrista skills I never had a coffee which was overheated or burnt even when I have my coffee in Almond milk which is sensitive to high remperatures. Must try, this is a great little Cafe and I am certain you will be impressed. We'll done team and keep it up 👍😎

Their Savory Scones are SO GOOD! Honestly the best I have ever had and I have tried A LOT. I love their chicken burritos! Super tasty however I do wish they were made so much bigger as they are quite tiny.

Great spot, coffee is flavourful and scones are awesome.

While visiting Auckland for our Anniversary we googled best donuts in Auckland and we found great reviews about The Mustard Kitchen. After missing the turn off to Morningside Rd we eventually found the cafe. Super friendly staff and the donuts didn’t disappoint. We also had a pie which was delicious. And as we chatted to the lovely person who served us and telling him where we had come from we got a free sample of their famous caramel slice - heavenly. Thank you The Mustard Kitchen!

Pretty good steak, ale and cheese pie. 4 out of 5. Nice thin pastry and good quality filling. The issues that I have found are that pastry does not hold together that well and the filling is a tad strong on the herb aroma side. Would definitely come back to try their other pies and things.

The only place I will actually pay $7.50 for a pie! It's so worth it! My partner gets a mince and cheese pie and I always get the chicken and leek pie. It's so filling and every bite feel like heaven. Always the same and consistent. The coffee is also amazing. The only down side is location ... its a bit out of the way - but that won't stop me from eating here!

The pies, they are not cheap, but they are very large, and very good. I also like the XL coffee option. The sweet brioche, when toasted with butter, was one of the best in Auckland, but they have stopping doing it. I can't describe how disappointed I am, it was the reason I used to go here.

Always good coffee. They’re promoting reduced waste so offer a discount for using a keep cup. The French toast brioche is too good. Guinness pie is also a good option. Not a lot of space to sit, but great for grabbing lunch on the go. Staff really friendly. Theres a large number of regulars that proves this.

The BEST Bacon 'n (Two!!) Egg pie in Auckland! My rather bulging gut reinforces that claim. Lovely super friendly staff (who make great coffee) ensure that we go nowhere else but here for our daily coffees & aforementioned pies - amongst a superb range of always tempting savory and sweet snacks!

Fantastic spot for lunch take out or eat in, the only destruction is the difficulty in parking even with a couple of spaces out the back, it can take a few laps of the block to get near. However it is worth the effort, great pies, a selection of sandwiches and wraps, plus a great variety of innovative offerings. Their miniature apple pies are a must try

The best chicken and mushroom filo I've ever eaten.

Walked pass here on the way to Morningside train station. Cosy little lunch bar with many options displayed in the hot cabinet. What grabbed my attention was the size and varieties of pies they have! I got myself a steak and mushroom pie as the chef refilling pie cabinet with fresh baked pies. I also ordered a small mocha to wash down my pie. Big chunky piece of meat with beautiful gravy inside the freshly baked MAN SIZE pie - taste was perfectly right, not too salty or fatty. I am a Mocha person and I order Mocha whenever I go. I have to say this is one of the best Mocha i have ever had! Well done to the barista who made my coffee. Perfect balance between Kokako beans brew coffee with their secret chocolate mix? I don't know how to describe it but the taste was so unique - subtle sweet, chocolately and fragrance! Final thing worth mention was the friendly polite staffs who served me even though there was a queue during lunch rush hour. He greeted everyone with a smile and took his time to double confirm the order was right. Overall 5 stars experience for this little corner lunch bar. Will definitely be back to try out more food in near future.

Staff/service: 4/5
Venue: 4/5
Price/portion: 3.5/5
Stopped by here today. Saw their freshly baked pies. I ordered the steak and ale pie. The pie was just so so. The beef chunks are dry and chewy, that not great when there is only bamboo cutlery available for sit in visitor.

Join Zomato Gold and get 1+1 on food or 2+2 on drinks. I always walk passed but only recently decided to try it out. So glad I did the pies are delicious, the chicken and leek is a must try, their doughnuts are pretty great too!

Very disappointing. Weak coffee (I'm sure they water it down) i hate paper plates and wooden knives. No butter with muffin. Unfriendly staff... no greeting, not a word or smile... nothing there to entice me back.

Really great coffee/hot drinks - opted for almond milk instead and it was nice to see they use the AlmondBreeze brand almond milk, which in my opinion is by far the best-tasting almond milk for coffee (even better than dairy). The ginger latte had the perfect balance of ginger taste and spice. Also really tasty pies - we tried the chicken, leek and bacon pie and the steak, ale and cheese pie. They both had generous portions of meat inside with great flavoursome sauces. Would definitely be keen to visit again to try their other food!

Love the steak and cheese pies is one of my favourites, however would love to see more cheese in the cheesy pies and would also love for it to be open on a Sunday as that is when my fam mostly crave pies. Apart from that absolutely amazing and love eating there

The staffs are so rude. I will Never come back.
I won’t recommend any of my friends to this place.
Service is much more important than food.

My all time favourite cafe, the food is beyond fantastic. The burritos are to die for , as in the pies are so good 😊. The staff are nice , they know my usual order . Would recommend going there for a coffee or even for lunch , such a nice little neat cafe they have .

Best pies I’ve had in Auckland City - EVER!

Recommend the vegetable pie with Kidney Beans, Roast Veges - all topped off with creamy Feta...

Great Saturday morning snack or ‘on the go’ weekday lunch.

Love it here. Amazing food and service. I treat myself every Friday!! Please think about getting bamboo cutlery and paper cups or even reusable ons for people who eat there.. no more plastic waste!!

This sunny little lunch bar in Morningside is no stranger to the Huskies, their custom-made pies are coveted (nacho pies with dorito chips, anyone?), and also have a good selection of paleo and vegetarian options. They don't spoil you seating-wise though, other than a few buckets and crates artfully placed on the deck, but it's still a treat on a sunny day. they even place bags of used coffee grinds for people to grab ' for the gardens, homie.

Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/mustard-kitchen-oct-14

Love the Mustard...hoping it doesn't go downhill now it's changed hands :/ My partner and I go here every morning for coffee and then a pie on Saturday. Very devoted Mustard fan! We got our usual pie on Saturday and took a bite to find it was not the flavour we thought...the wrong label had been put up in front. The new owners were very disgruntled at us for some reason and didn't apologise once. You'd think they'd be keen to make a good first impression especially to the big fans! The cost of goods on two pies is surely worth it in the long run. Shout out to our fave barista Cara for sorting it for us - she's a keeper!

Great place for awesome tasting coffee and yummy treats/eats. I had a jam and fresh cream filled long doughnut, washed down with a nice long black coffee.

food is nice, but some of the staffs are racist being.🙄️ not only once.
Cant believe why they hire racist people especially in hospitality.
I wont recommend this place to any of my friends.

Coffee was good... And went for the vege rice paper rolls for something different!! Very refreshing... All the food looks good, more of a takeaway shop as seating is limited! Next time maybe I will venture to the pies... Certainly were popular with the other customers on a Saturday morning.

Have popped in here a few times to pickup lunches... Friendly staff -I only get the wraps or sandwiches as that's all I've needed but they are really nice and I really like how they are individually wrapped... Everything else looks appealing too. A must try for lunch on the go as its s little place.

This is my go-to place for amazing doughnuts – thankyou/sorry/congrats – pretty much any ocassion where doughnuts are required. My favourite is anything with the chocolate ganache filling. 'Nuff said!
Angela
Service is always super friendly, and just as consistent as their food which is always delicious. The donuts are a definite must-try here, as well as the pies which are also amazing. It's always a good feed whenever I come around here to grab lunch.

Loved this cafe so much I'm making it my new regular. Hands down best coffee I've ever had. The also have a really wide range of really delicious looking food. I'm making it my mission to taste everything. I've tried the bacon and rocket bap, the French toast brioche and the bacon and spinach brioche and they were all amazing. I love how everything is already made so you don't have to order and then wait for your food to be cooked, such a great idea. Would definitely recommend this place. I have also heard their smoothies are great, but am yet to try them for myself.

The pies from here are soooo fiyaaahhh. I've had the Mexican one, bacon and egg, mince w tomato base and today - steak and mushroom. I'm yet to unlock the full set cause so many to choose from!!Coffees are good too (kokako) and staff are real nice. Next on my list to try will be the eggs bene bap, looks MEAN and in masterchef speak - hollandaise really is the HERO OF THE DISH. If salads are ur buzz then u have also come to the right place. Also heap of vege option! They truly out hea to cater 2 u

Love this cafe! I grab lunch from here often. Great food and service is friendly. The cream donuts, carrot cake, blueberry loaf, vegetarian lasagna, angus beef lasagna, chia pudding, thai chicken wraps, lamb wraps, savory brioche, homemade soups, fresh juices and salads are all delicious. I have never been disappointed. Highly recommend.

Great little café. Perfect on your way to work or if you can't be bothered making anything yummy in the morning. Great food at excellent prices.

I was excited to bring my husband to The Mustard Kitchen for a quick bite as we were doing errands in the area. I used to live around the corner and I remember when this place was a classic kiwi lunch bar in an industrial area. I used to pick up something for breakfast on my way to the train station.

The space is barely recognisable now and is brightly lit and with fresh decor. There are cute seating arrangements outside but this is just a quick pitstop, not really a cafe where you might sit with a coffee or catch up with friends.

I’d heard the donuts were amazing so we got a donut and pie each, washed down with a couple of small flat whites. His pie was steak, mine was chicken. I enjoyed the pie but prefer pastry that is lighter and flakier. This could just be my personal preference. The do have a range of great fillings though which should appeal to every pie lover.

The cream and jam donut I had was beautiful. Much better than the cinnamon donut my husband had. Mind you, they’re both good, just the cream one was clearly the winner.

I might come back to try one of their delicious looking sandwiches and another cream donut.

Delicious, scrummy pies. If you're a pie lover you'll love the classic mince n cheese they do at Mustard Kitchen. The taste is obviously really good for a rating of 5.0, but what I really liked about this pie was that you could hold it in your hands, take a bite without it disintegrating or crumbling. I believe they only have a takeaway license, but there is basic wooden seating outside and upturned buckets act as makeshift tables.

Absolutely fabulous!!!! Loved the food the shop and the girls!!!!!! Well done!!!!!! They had vegetarian pastries amazing coffee and scrumo cakes!!!!!10 out of 10!!!!!

Love the Mustard Kitchen. How fab to have a great little cafe in the burbs...the coffee is fantastic and the Mexican Chicken pie was beautiful. Tasty with a little spice nice with the beans.
The Donuts are fresh and a real hard to not buy delight.
The staff are uber friendly and fun.
Will be back again...and again.
Parking is a tad of a problem with all the businesses however worth a small stroll or even better take the train a few minutes walk from Morningside station. A welcome addition to the area and nice to see healthy and delicious food in a busy industrial area.

Cute little lunch bar to drop in and grab a bite and a coffee on the run. Happy and friendly staff. Nice to see someone creating a lunch bar that's NOT like all the others out there.
Nice fresh products.

Great takeaway salads and doughnuts, look yummo.
Also noticed they have a lot of food for Vegans.
Will be back again to get some lunch.
