Review Star Kebabs - Auckland Central

Had the Seafood Basket and Fish & Chips. So tasty and generous portion. Loved it, and would definitely go there again to try out some of the other items on the menu. And the chef (maybe Maori)...too good, so efficient and great music too!!

It's my favorite kebab store in Auckland. I walk more than a km just to get kebab on rice from here. Taste is amazing. Hummus is the best! Owner is so friendly and he never charged me extra for extra hummus/sauce 👌 If you are a student, you get kebabs and rice for 10$ between 9am to 5pm.

I was thrilled to give a local falafel platter a try as I have been pretty much on hotel food in the past two weeks. I can't resonate with those who left a bad review for them because my falafer platter was perfect. I requested it extra spicy and they fulfilled it flawlessly. Portion was also perfect. Neither too little, nor too much. I was also given cutlery. Cash payment was also accepted.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Auckland, specifically on the iconic Queen Street, Star Kebab stands as a shining gem among the city's culinary offerings. My recent visit to this delightful eatery left me utterly captivated by its exquisite flavors and inviting ambiance. From their delectable fillet burger to the mouthwatering chicken kebab, and not forgetting the tantalizing Meat on Chips and chicken rice, every dish I had the pleasure of savoring was a testament to the exceptional taste and quality that Star Kebab consistently delivers. The star of the show, the fillet burger, was a true masterpiece. The tender fillet was impeccably cooked, retaining its succulence while boasting a delectable smoky char. Nestled within a fresh bun along with crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and a medley of sauces, every bite was an explosion of flavor that left me craving for more. The combination of textures and tastes was a symphony for the senses, creating a harmonious experience that is not easy to forget. Equally impressive was the chicken kebab. The succulent pieces of marinated chicken, grilled to perfection, showcased the culinary expertise of the chefs at Star Kebab. Each bite was a tantalizing blend of spices and tenderness, a delightful dance of flavors that made me appreciate the artistry behind this dish. Paired with a side of fresh salad and their signature sauces, the chicken kebab was a true celebration of taste and craftsmanship. A unique offering that truly stole the show was the Meat on Chips. This innovative fusion dish combined the hearty goodness of tender meat with the satisfying crunch of golden fries. The meat, expertly seasoned and cooked, added a rich and savory dimension to the dish that was simply irresistible. With each forkful, I marveled at how Star Kebab managed to transform a classic comfort food into an elevated culinary experience that left me in awe. No visit to Star Kebab would be complete without trying their chicken rice. This seemingly simple dish was a revelation in itself. The fragrant rice, infused with subtle flavors, provided the perfect canvas for the tender, flavorful chicken. The balance of textures and the nuanced blend of spices showcased the thoughtfulness that goes into every dish they serve. What truly sets Star Kebab apart, aside from its impeccable cuisine, is its prime location on Queen Street. Situated in the heart of Auckland, this eatery offers not just a meal but an experience. The bustling energy of the city becomes an integral part of your dining journey, creating a unique synergy that enhances the enjoyment of the food.

I am a foodie person who always try food at different places. Just search on google and found this place. I tried mix kebab and it’s really delicious 😋 highly recommended

I adore the food and service from Star Kebab. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. Food is fresh and fast. Now, let's talk about the stars of the show – the kebabs. Each dish is a masterpiece, meticulously prepared with a combination of unique flavor profiles. Whether you opt for the classic chicken, lamb, or falafel, (you can even mix to your hearts desire). Seasoned and grilled to perfection, resulting in a mouthwatering tenderness that left me wanting more. What sets Star Kebab apart from other kebab eateries is their dedication to using high-quality, fresh ingredients. The salad in the kebabs were crisp and bursting with natural flavors, complementing the meats harmoniously. The accompanying sauces and dips were equally outstanding. Favorites for me are the garlic yogurt and hummus which add an extra layer of deliciousness. 10/10 recommend a visit here, Star Kebab is my go to for a fresh feed. Bonus points for late night openings so I can satisfy my kebab cravings.

This place is super sweet, I get lunch from here multiple times every week and its always real nice. I always get the lamb on rice and its great + nice portion size for the price - 14.00 (a lot better than other kebab places I've been to in Auckland). They also have a bunch of sauces to choose from so you can get a combination to suit your tastes. Staff are always friendly and I always look forward to my lunch when I go here :) Keep it up guys!

The portion size is big and worth the value! Medium size can fuel you up if you are not too hungry. However, the owner is not so friendly even it's not too busy. Wondering why he had this attitude even if it's holiday season.

I got a kebab for $6 today, great deal, however I probably wound not get something if was not on special. I had a lb kebab and it definitely filled me up for a while. I got the hit chilli sauce and hummus, but u shod gave also gotten the garlic yogurt because that sauce is hot. I had to get an ice cream after and I usually do pretty well with spice

I bought the buffalo wings, which was part of the lunch box deal for $8. However, what I got was burnt, over cooked chicken + some feathers. I’m not kidding. FEATHERS on one of the wings !! Absolutely appalling. If I could rate any lower, I would.

Very bad customer service.
Serving guys are very rude.
Tasteless food. Quality of food is not good either.
Not worth coming to this place for food.

Decent kebabs. Ordered the mixed meat on chips for dinner. Serving size was alright, I’ve had bigger from other kebab places but the meat was seasoned nicely and tasted good. Generous quantity of sauces as well. My friend got a $5 kebab and was relatively underwhelmed but overall it’s an alright place for a quick cheap feed. I guess you’re spoilt for choice on queen street though.

A good place to find middle eastern cuisine. It is situated in a great location opposite Aotea Square on Queen Street. The staff was kind enough to wait for me to choose what I wanted to eat. It was surprising that they offered only one spicy sauce out of a good number of choices. Nevertheless, the spice in that one sauce was fabulous enough for me to overlook that. The food was great. Overall, could be better but as of now, I have nothing major to complain about.
Dani
The $5 kebabs here are filling and definietly worth the price. Generous portions of meat which I find great especially for the value of $5. Cleanliness of the place could be improved but overall good service and even better portion size for a cheap price.

NEED TO MAKE PRICES CLEAR AND LISTEN TO ORDERS CAREFULLY.
My friends and I have had so many issues with this. Asked for no hummus and friend asked for no onions. And we both got onions and hummus, pretty disappointed with this. Also, prices do not make sense at all! A huge large box of chicken on rice cost $11 and the same sized box including a bottled drink and chips cost $10!! We’ve had so many mishaps with this. SO MAKE SURE YOU EMPHASISE $10
Hotdog&Buns
Very good $5 kebab deal. Not skimpy on the meat, rice or sauces at all. It even comes with hummus and salad.

Also tried out their Peri Peri chicken. Piping hot when I received it. Wasn't really spicy or flavorful despite the raging orange colour. Acceptable for the price range.

Service was okay.

Would recommend the kebabs here.

3.5/5
$5 (Wrap or Rice) Kebabs, quick and relatively healthy fast food. Great value for students who want a meal that isn't too expensive.

In terms of taste and quality, they are slightly below the more expensive options from other places such as Kebabs on Queen but for the price you cannot find better.

My new kebab go-to.
Cherries_inthesnow
This place gives more meat and offers fresher veges compared to Kebabs on Queen. Used to go there daily, but think I'll be coming here from now on.

Came here for an early dinner a couple of days ago. Was attracted by the $10 kebab combo which included a Mixed Meat Kebab, Chips and a Bottled Drink. Prompt service, no hassles. Took no longer than 10 minutes. I really enjoyed my kebab. I think it is smaller size due to the combo deal but still seemed like value for the money. The chips came in those portion cups but it was on the smaller size. Seemed a bit stingey. Overall though, I would come back for the Kebabs. Especially as I noticed they had a Kebab deal for $5.

Best $5 kebabs on rice I've tasted at city at least compared to kebabs on queen. I've only gotten kebabs from these two places, well only places that sold them for $5.

The $6 two pieces of chicken and chips are great too although there's a better place on symond rd.

Overall great place for cheap eats but kebabs are only $5 weekdays and not on public holidays also before 9pm.

Come here if youre after a cheap and quick lunch fix on a $5 budget. Was my "go to" during uni days. Superior to Kebabs on queen to an extent. The meat served here has more flavour. Chicken has a better kick to it with the tandoori spice. Vegetable variety is slightly better and the cabbage is of a better cut. Just beware of the annoying pidgeons trying to steal your rice.

Visit #1: Ordered for Cajun chicken rice. Chicken was good, but with plain rice it seemed a bit dry for my taste. They have an option of sauces to add, so that helps. Service was quick and friendly, full points there.

Visit #2: Chicken Biryani and fried chicken with chips. This one was amazing; biryani was not exactly biryani - more like flavored rice with shawarma spit chicken. Not complaining, loved the taste. Fried chicken was pretty damn good; it wasn't too oily, was fresh (read: not double fried I think) and was crispy despite me opting for a take away and consuming it an hour later. My new fav for fried chicken.

Prices are very pocket friendly. Coming back again for sure.
Ravi
A good customer service here with a good range of options. They have nice deals with tasty kebabs. Been here a while ago and enjoyed their food. Only they don't have much seating.

I ordered the chicken teriyaki on rice only a few hours ago! We had a great night planned and the food was alright but nearly 45 minutes later I was sick and vomited it back up! Would not go back and it ruined my night out. Disappointed
Hungus Girl
I dont know why all the bad reviews and poor rating. I loved their chicken kebabs! Filled up so generously with veges and spicy chicken. Chicken was well marinated and spicy. Sauce isnt drippy and well packed in the wrap. They even put olives in it too unlike kebabs on queen. I usually go to kebabs on queen and they are getting stingy each year im back to grab a kebab. For only 10 bucks here its so worth it!
One of the essentials food spots for university students. The chicken and rice meal is a must. It's both cheap and filling and perfect if you're on a tight budget but really hungry.

Strolled down Albert Street just adjacent to Queen Street and walked into the Food Alley and it's a gourmet' s delight with boards displaying tempting mouth watering dishes.

You are not only spoilt for taste but confused about the cuisine to partake. There were Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Middle East and Indian.

Landed at Star Kebab's and had chicken with rice and lamb kebab. The chicken was tender and crisp.
Lamb was better and juicy.

Service was spot on.

My Review is on their Star Kebab store at the waterfront near Britomart,Sorry but I had to write it!
This has been the worst food experience ever in Auckland,I m not complaining about their Kebabs but other things do count apart from a outlet's food!
Firstly,They have the most unfriendly staff I have ever encountered, I couldn't undertand what they were saying. They even taunted me that we won't come to give you your box, you have to come inside and collect, But just befor calling me to collect by kebab box the main incharge came outside personally to serve two people on their table!? What do I conclude from this??????
Are you doing a Favour on me?I mean it is your duty to give a good service not a favour!
Secondly, I had asked for Hummus besides by two other sauces, They only gave me the two sauces, I asked why? So they replied to me saying "They were out of Hummus" , Isn't it their responsibility to atleast inform or arrange because a customer has paid for it!
Now the Quantity- It is Crap for a $6.50 Deal!!
Why would I go here when the same Kebab is served with 3 Sauces and Salads for $5 on Rice or a Wrap at Kebabs On Queen.
I would not recommend this place and would suggest Kebabs On Queen is 10 times better in Service,Taste,Quantity,Quality and Price!
As a customer I look for the worth and a pleasant experience and if a restaurant cannot do that, then they should work upon it.

The lamb meat here was really juicy and well seasoned. However, the kebab was poorly wrapped and all the contents spilled onto the foil which made the experience unenjoyable. I might come back to try the meat over rice.

Apart from going to uni, I would come here to get the mixed meat on chips combination. It's like the only thing I would buy from kebab stores, just adding on the carbs to burn off at the gym.

There is a Punjabi guy in there he is awesome in Customer service I just became star kebab customer because of his polite and good customer service but now sometimes their is a person a little old he is too rude to the customers he behaves like we are buying for free.
Anya's Eats
This place was pretty good. I've eaten a lot of kebabs and this place was ok. Nothing special, but filling. This was the only kebab place I tried in Auckland so I can't compare to other places, but if I had to I would eat here again.

This one is for the guy working today (15dec15) . Dude you are the shittiest customer service rep i have ever seen. Food was ok less in quantity. i asked for two sauces and this dude just gave me one and when i asked for that sauce he just told me that he cannot do it. And afterwards he told me that i shouldn't have asked for sauce in front of other customers. Wtf mate I AM YOUR CUSTOMER. Anyways not going there anymore.

This place is open late and is handy for those late night hunger calls. Take away type ambience. Food is overall fair. Staff is communicative and friendly.

I have been going to this shop for about 4 years now. Food is OK. When it was $5. now its $6.50. Everyone that works here is okay except for one guy, he always works there. He is short, fat and wears glasses and perhaps some facial hair, in his 40s. I think if you have been there you know who he is. My problem with this guy is that he has never say "Thanks" or "Thank you" .. EVER. I find it very disrespectful especially when a customer is buying food from you. The shop is suppose to say thanks .. not me. I am saying thanks for making my food. He should be saying thanks for buying his food. I have been very patient about this guy, everyone else says thanks but except this short, fat guy that wears glasses. This is a very serious review and I have always been thinking of putting it on zomato. Somebody need to fire the guy or teach him some manners. I visit this store regularly and the next time I visit the store and he is still rude.. I may have to just make it viral and make people boycott the place. If you are the store owner and you are reading this, please fire the guy or teach him some manners or I promise you will start losing customers slowly. Tell him to be happy and stop looking so freaking angry/grumpy ALL THE TIME.. seriously, ALL THE TIME. If he looks sad for working there then he doesnt belong there and he should be taken out. There is only one guy that is short, fat, wears glasses and angry/grumpy looking ALL THE TIME. So we know who he is. Sort it out. Now.

I don't know what the previous reviewers are talking about.
Star Kebab is AWESOME!!!
The queues start early here, so get in quick.
The service is always friendly and very efficient.
When ever I turn up, the owner is recognises me and always greets me with a smile.
The food is amazing!!!
My favourite is Shish Kebab on Rice with there chilli sauce splashed all over!!
You will not be disappointed.
I can now order from my office now too. Star Kebab has a mobile app called YQ.
No more waiting in lines for me.
Thanks Star Kebab

I'm never going here again. The line at Kebabs on queen was long so I came here because there was no line. Now I know why. I asked for lamb with rice and asked if it was $5. The guy who served me did not smile and ignored my question. My order was quick though. They had a sign saying they used the freshest ingredients but my lamb was some kind of salty sausage meat sliced to fool patrons that it was lamb. I also noticed I was not given any red onion in my salad like the others next to me. The hummus was also not very generous. Yeah right to their slogan 'real middle east flavour'
Jesse James .
They have $5 meals here. BUT I asked for the rice in mine to be swapped out for salad. Kebabs on queen did this at no extra charge however star kebab charged me extra, and there was eff all salad in there! And it was a small meal at that! At kebabs on queen they sold me a large meal and swapped the rice for heaps of salad at no extra cost. I won't be buying from star kebab again.
Danny
When Kebabs on Queen first displayed its $5 menu a few years back, Star Kebabs was quick to follow. After all, they are almost identical - both offer a similar menu in a similar price range and they're both located on the same street. (The special is $5 for a regular kebab or rice dish from 9am-9pm on weekdays)

The place is clean and staff are friendly enough. I usually prefer going here because of the shorter queue - which also means the staff are less overworked and make fewer mistakes with orders.

I would give this place a higher rating but the rest of their menu is relatively overpriced. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a meal under $10, I would definitely recommend Star Kebabs.
