Absolutely love this place! 10/10 for everything, food is tasty, service is excellent and the atmosphere is just amazing! The team at Epsom Genghis Khan Barbecue, you guys are the absolutely the best! We love dining at your place and we love hosting special events for friends and family here. We can’t wait to dine here again and we thank you for your amazing hospitality and team effort!

Love this place had my stepson 21st here a year ago and just lastnight had my twins 20th birthday 🎂 🥳 food was lovely, staff amazing 👏
Rudy Sage
Was impressed by how clean it was and tasty the food was. The wait was not too bad and the service good. One thing I found is that staff assumed I had been here before but it was my first time and no one explained how it works. I had to find out for myself.

I had a very good experience here. Covid procedures were orchestrated with precision. I like how the tables were cleared after each meal and the food tasted great!

I took my son and his partner here last night for his 18th birthday. It was awesome. The staff were just lovely. We will definitely be back. Thanks so much😊

It is Genghis Khan BBQ right, can't go wrong there! The BBQ area could have been better designed. Seemed a little cramped in that area. But otherwise I liked the soup and breads. Family enjoyed our dinner!
Sheila Derksen
We had the most awesome time fir my sons birthday! The staff are so helpful and the seating was perfect. The music is a bit loud but some people like that. The guy on the grill was really nice and overall it was a magical night. Thank you everyone for all your effort!
Stefan van Staden
Had a great time, good atmosphere, food was better than expected. Kids had ice cream and pancakes 4x times, loved it. Value for money you would struggle to match.

Awesome place to have a birthday. Warm intimate atmosphere, great service & the food was soooo delicious. Thank you.

Fantastic wet night and traffic held us up arriving they held our table. Staff and other guests made it a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed the food ages 1 to 87 years. Photos to remember and grateful for the family time together as we now live all over NZ. It made my son's graduation 🎓 the icing on the cake. Thank you so much.

Honestly haven't been here or to any buffet in year's, but we will definitely be returning the staff are pleasant especially the front of house . The food was good and it was very clean and the price is great .

Personally I can't fault this restaurant . Watching my food being cooked was an awesome experience . I found the menu easy to understand , plenty of colored instructions add to the best way to get the best culinary experience out of my dish .

First time here. Hubby and I are visiting from Melbourne, AU. Our family (Hubby's) side invited us here for dinner. Such an awesome spot! Loved the food, atmosphere and especially the pancakes/ice cream for dessert 🤤👌 So good for family gatherings too. Hopefully next time I can bring the rest of my family, my kids would love it 🥰

Food is good, always packed booke in advance.

Can find a better word than average. Was worth the money because it was filling but the experience was underwhelming. Underpaid student workers who clearly look like they don’t want to be there. Food quality was very low but was expected from a buffet. There was no actual mongol food which was disappointing.
Hanna Salati
It wasn’t good place for buffet. The food was awfull. They didn’t cook it well and it was raw. The mixiture of the meat and onion was awfull. Also the price was so expensive. It is not affordable.

Good place for bbq buffet. Better to go during the week cus it's gonna be a little bit cheaper. So will have to have your own marinating recipe, so make sure u choose the one u really like ;)
Chris L
Haven’t been to this place for a long time we decided give it a go because we were looking for proteins and veges not carbs. It was an excellent choice because we didn’t have to pick noodles and rice. Good service and good food but for $29 per person something was missing. Idk maybe I am asking a lot but korean bbq is probably better option for me at same price.
Kym
Horrible food, huge waiting times, unhygienic dessert station and over cooked food. So unhappy with the experience, and waste of money.
Tony Ma
$75-$80 for 2 adults a one year old and 3 year old. The food is great nice and meaty macaroni tastes delicious. But the price is a bit much. I could be eating at a 4-5 star restaurant at this price... or go to korean bbq buffet with better meat cuts... enjoyed it thoroughly just not the price

Better than my expectation! but a bit expensive than how the food quality is. Nice friendly service, a lot of choice. And have ice cream for kids which is really nice.

Great service. Great Food. Great location.

Our daughter organised a 21st birthday dinner party on Friday 2nd August at Genghis Khan in Epsom and the Manager and staff were so amazing and helpful. The area booked outside was transformed for a rustic white theme and the guests who had been there before were blown away, including guests who flew in from overseas' - very impressed. The variety of yummy food put out for dinner was fresh, always topped up, and cooked to perfection! Thank you for being so accommodating from set up to the after hours packing down, your patience very much appreciated.

Good place to go to if you are craving for flavourful meat! Love that we are able to mix our own sauces with meat! Always tons of people but they have hired more staffs to speed up the waiting. Their cooked food is pretty average but I’m glad they have pancakes as desserts!
Cassidy Johnstone
The food is tasty and good value for an all you can eat restaurant. Perfect for a large or small groups. Not great for people with allergies though as there is a high risk of cross-contamination.

I love buffets, especially DIY ones! which happens to be at Genghis Khan.

🍜 : It's a nice concept to mix and match ingredients and create your very own noodle or stir-fry dish. The meat gets cooked well and I usually end up with a pretty decent tasting combination of meat-vege-sauce-oil ( Regrettably, I can't say the same for the folks I went there with - which is not the restaurant's fault! ). It's all good and exciting... until you get to the rest of the buffet. Disappointing is an understatement to describe it. The pancakes at the end of the buffet could have been its saving grace, except when there's a waiting line.

💁💁‍♂️: It is a buffet so there is very little I can talk about here. The servers were fine from memory. Seating was quick, didn't have to wait for long. Quite a few queues in the different buffet sections. Pancakes took ages. However, seeing the chefs cooking up our preparations was quite entertaining.

💺: Lots and lots of space, inside and out. If seated closer to the cooking area, it can feel a wee bit hot.

💵 : Buffets can get expensive. Having said that, this is fairly priced given the variety you can get.

Overall: Nice family restaurant, particularly when you're feeling creative!

Came here with quite a lot of my family here tonight. The place was already quite busy and full. The food was great, I really have no complaints about it. Just a bunch of rude guests who kept pushing in line. Total respect for the staff for keeping the meat, salads, hot foods etc stacked up for the busy night. And the chefs who worked so hard around the big round hot stove 👏🏼 great job! Clean place to eat. Best Gengis Khan restaurant I’ve been to.
Steve Hall
nice enough food, be careful dont overdo it on flavours as all tastes the same sometimes , bit slow in the queue to have it cooked, but nice enough once done

Came here for a friends birthday get together. It was my first time eating at this franchise. I think the meat was ok at first but then gets very repetitive and have lost interest in it. There was a pancake station with ice cream, which was ok as well.
The staff was friendly.

Taste - 2/5
Service - 3.5/5
Aklfoodie
Assistants are friendly, food was good. They refilled food immediately and bbq was also good. But it took so long time to get food from bbq grill. And shelves are not very clean.
Connie Johnson
My first time here, very clean the food is amazing everyone enjoyed themselves, super fresh ingredients so much to choose from, I'm definitely returing and staying longer next time, cheap and tastey
Mrstashala2
This Gengys is by far the Top restaurant over all the similar bbq restaurants I’ve been too. Foods cooked so well, it’s not dry and full of flavour. The cooks don’t burn food and there are so many sides to choose from and are always kept full and well maintained. Good price too and very neat and tidy.

It was packed last night as we, as a big group were having Xmas party there. Every one was waiting in the queue for filling own bowl or plates, to be cooked by chefs who were cooking around a huge round hot iron plate. It was a bit messy, with people crowding each other. As my friend was sitting at the table, keeping eye on our belongings, I was responsible to fill two bowls of food to be cooked. It was not unusual to me. A few of them in front of me were doing this. However when it was my turn, a chef told me I can only fill one bowl of food with stern looking. I wasn't impressed and wondered why he did not tell the European looking lady in front of me like this because she was doing exactly what I did? Is this because I am an Asian, an easy target?
I told him one bowl was for my friend. He looked a bit grumpy.
I guess this restaurant should change the layout or organisation of cooking so customers can have better feels. I did feel offended.

We had my dad’s 65th birthday here and it was amazing!! The manager, Tom, was so accommodating and catered to every need we had. So thank you so much Tom! We were in the outside private area which was awesome because we could close the doors and do speeches. Epsom Gengis is a great place for your venue!
Its Me
Very friendly but too damn packed on the weekend! Wish they had more selection of noodles but oh well. I been to the one in Northcote and I think the price was the same or very similar so I will stick to the one in Northcote which has way more selection on food (like deep fried chicken and kimchi) unless I'm in Newmarket and has no Korean bbq place to go

AMBIENCE 4/5
SERVICE/STAFF 4/5
FOOD 3/5
QUANTITY/PRICE 4/5

I have been to this location many times and I’ve had the same experience all the time. The ambience is great for large or small groups, a lot of space inside and out, always busy, we went on Saturday night and as usual was busy. The staff gave us the drinks as requested and had no issues, and cleared table without requesting. The food is always nice to choose what you like and get it cooked the way you want, only small problem I always find is the food runs out quickly and sometimes have a wait a long time for it to be filled up again. It’s understandable because it’s always busy. We just have to keep checking that’s the only downfall. For a place where u can eat unlimited the price and quantity is perfect. Definitely recommend and will go again.

First time here and what a wonderful experience we had. Really enjoyed being able to choose my own meat and verges and to have it cooked in front of us was just great. We will definitely be returning.
Rayfaye Solomon
Very great food from its fresh selection of meat and veges to a decent number of salads, okay chips and excellent sushi... the sauces are yummy.. even better tasting than previous genghis I have been to
Faye Cao
Sauce and oil are put into a lonely corner, I didn't see these at the first time. After I got my food, I thought why their meat are so dry? I wondered, maybe it is like that, the Mongolian flavor. Later I realised there are more sauces for the BBQ food. I am a small eater, maybe next time, when I remember how it works, it will be better. Sorry, it's just my bad.

Visited this buffet on a rainy Friday and just after their opening time, there wasn't a lot of people but it starts getting busy after 6:30.
Because of the time we went we had a good tour around all the food options. The meat & vege selections for cooking were good and varied, the hot foods were really good as well, I think their spring rolls are vegetarian-friendly. There were also salads, sushi, pasta and bread rolls if you really can't find savoury foods to enjoy.
I really like how you can freely season your cooked food with any sauce or oil you like, and the ice cream + cones were also a great dessert!
Didn't try the pancakes and saw reviews saying that they are delicious. Great chance for me to go there a second time and I will try the pancakes next time!
The buffet environment was good and hygienic, the staff was warm and friendly. Though we didn't really feel much of any Mongolian culture in the buffet process. Overall a tasty buffet that is not expensive and quite popular! 4/5
Aimee.
I remembered this buffet as one of the cheapest ones I’ve ever been too. However this buffet is unique as they cook the food for you on the spot so it’s fresh. You get to choose all your raw meats and vegetables to create your own dish which is different from other buffets.

Love epsom genis khan its our fav nw we used to go to new lynn bt epsoms better. Theres more variety of food. Th food is fresh th resturant is clean and spaced out well. Th staff is good. Nice dinning experience for our family thanx. I just wish there was more desert options instead of just fruit ice cream and pancakes with toppings.

Genghis khan is one of the most extraordinary buffets in Auckland they are one of the best service in town it has the most amazing meat serving choices and I would recommend your choice of meat and get Auckland favorite with sauces and oils
Jessica Li
This is probably one of the cheapest buffets I’ve been to! It was only 24.95 per person. Food wise was OK, it was pretty cool that you could make your own combination of stir fried noodles but I’m not sure if the simplicity of the dish is worth the money and noodles fill you up pretty quickly so I didn’t feel like anything after one plate. I’m not sure if I would voluntarily go to one of these again but it is pretty novel to get to watch your food being cooked in front of you though! :)
Brenna Hobson
Incredible atmosphere, spicy macaroni and cheese, decadent garlic bread and as much pineapple as a girl could ever dream of. So glad Genghis Khan invented this taste-bud delight 😩
Canistan Charles
I been here with my friends for my birthday dinner. Food was amazing and the ingredients they have all were fully filled and well presented. Clean and tidy restaurant. Friendly staff and they are really helpful. Huge variety of entry and mains. Really worth it.

You can’t go wrong with some meat and veggies in a buffet! This is actually my favourite gengis khan. This place can get incredibly busy, so make sure to book on Friday and Saturday. I tend to go during weekdays, however if they get busy during week nights, they often only have 1 or 2 cooks minding the grill. The wait time can be quite long.

The place is clean, and the food are regularly topped up. The meat and vegetables are reasonably fresh. The cooked food sections are also pretty good. The pancake and ice cream for dessert is delicious!
Kelly Vilisoni-Richards
Came here with some work mates on a busy Saturday night. The food was great; everything was fresh and tasty. Suggestions on what sauces to add to your food before being cooked was on the wall which was very helpful since it was my first time - the Auckland special was wonderful. When food ran out it was replaced soon after which was cool.
Great atmosphere. Very busy and packed though.
Service was okay. Would definitely come back here (:
Matthew Le
Food and services here are legit AF Professional and skillful chefs as well as friendly staffs make my experience somthing different :))Definitely try it again
Sharon Louie
I really like Gengis Khan because you can season your own meat and vegetables, then you give it to the chefs and they cook it for you. The pancakes are also amazing with ice cream. I recommend this restaurant, it isn't too expensive for the food you get.
HelenMeng2000
Food is sooo yum, recommend if u can eat a lot and like choosing ur own ingredients and sauces as u pick what u want and the chefs cook it for u.
Stephanie
first time been here and really love the idea here! it is quite enjoyable to watch the chefs cooking your food in front of you eyes, and I think it is a cool place for someone who have a big group or party. Friendly staff as well, the only downside is the dessert and ice cream is quite simple but for $24.95 all you can eat it is fair enough, and honestly the pancake taste is not bad :p. Would definitely come back!
Kyles
Food was nice ...staff were nice ...alcohol a rip off ...$12 for a recordlig daylight robbery ...I also don't like the huge que to eat ..took at least 10\15 mins of standing before meal was cooked ...they do have a great selection though and the buffet food and salad is nice ...
Shaun James
It was my first time been to gengis khan but i love it, so surprised they are quite busy on a Thursday night so there was a queue for waiting BBQ, but that was the only downside for me, it was so great to see how chefs cook your food in front of your eyes, Btw their salad selection is nice and the pumpkin soup is 10/10, ice cream and pancake is not amazing but good enough, surely will visit again
Tania
Very negative experience. Small selection of food for the BBQ compared to other Mongolian BBQ places. Food was overcooked and burnt and mostly inedible. Service poor. Bugs in dessert plates which staff when notified ignored. Restaurant appeared dirty and floor slippery. Really disappointing experience. Won't revisit.
I Jeremy
Hey guys, i should say this is my favorite gengis khan in Auckland, been there so many times and really love the food and atmosphere, friendly staffs both kitchen and bar. it can get really really busy sometimes but that is fine because the wait can make me more hungry lol. the best thing for here is they always keep refilling the food not like some other buffet let everything empty and NEVER refill....

Btw why i give a FIVE star for them? Yeah the price, $26 for all you can eat, really worth a try!
Dennis Tohovaka
This place is terrible for parking. We had to park down one of the side streets and this place is poorly positioned and tricky to get to. We came here for a Birthday Celebration, and the place was really busy, and the queue to get food was lonnnngggg. Not a nice experience at all.
Sid
Iv been to three gengis khans and this is my favourite. There is a wide variety of good quality of food. Nice and clean indoor and outdoor dining area. Great service and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend.
Samin N Thilini
good food.
and the tase of the food all depends on ur choice of food and ingradients.we loved it and good price.Fresh grilled food is tbe best.
Lia Kay
Can get busy at times but overall lovely place to have buffet dinner. I celebrated my 21st birthday here and enjoyed the selection of cooked side dishes.
I_like_pickles
Highlights:
Nice dining area. I like the decor and ambience. They also have an outdoor area that can be hired for functions so you can decorate.
Great variety and selection of meats, sauces, hot food and salads.
Pancakes are nicely made.
Here's my little tip for the food: only put a bit of meat and your combination of oils, sauces and veges, so that if the combo doesn't taste good together you don't have to eat all of it or waste it. Also you can make more flavour and meat combos this way.

Not so highlights:
When it gets busy there tends to be a bit of a line to get your food cooked. So you do end up waiting a bit.
The pancake cook isn't always at the station so you have to ask someone when you want your pancakes.
Getting in and out of the carpark can be a bit of a nightmare because the restaurant is located near a very busy main road.
Lee Scott
A great place to go!

Nice price $25 and you can get a lot, i think if I have a "one plate buffet" in shopping mall will cost me almost $18 and here you can get salad dessert and fresh meat, veges : ) and the most important thing is you can go as many times as you like!

I really enjoy the soup here and all the chefs are working very hard, they are cooking in front of you which make me feel so cool!

I feel this place is a great place for big family and functions coz it is a really big restaurant. yeah i have been to other gengis khan but i love the atmosphere here, it makes me feel in the restaurant rather than a food court.

Btw their service is very good for a buffet restaurant sometimes just a smile is enough, is that right?
Diogo Reck
If you're really (really!) hungry, you might have some fun at Genghis Khan. But let's be honest, that is not a place to eat well.

They have a buffet with a lot of meats and vegetables,l. You choose what you want, and the guys fey everything in front of you.

So, if your meal is not good, you can only blame yourself.

But some of the the things they prepare in their kitchen are not quite good: French fries were saggy, and soup lacked of flavour.

The ice cream they have is one of the cheap ones, and the toppings are too artificial. But I must say that he pancakes are quite good.

You can have all this for less than $30. So if you like to eat a lot and are not keen to spend too much, that's the place for you.

Heather MacDonald
I have eaten here many times and it seems to stay consistently good, ate here again on Thursday (14th July 2016) with a visiting friend and it was just as good as I remembered, the meat and veg is always very fresh and having it cooked in front of you is awesome. The side dishes are also delicious and the pancakes are yummy, great price for a great meal.

After a long Saturday night in town my friend and I woke up tired, extremely hung-over with growling stomachs waiting to be fed and in need of something to soak up the night before. When I’m in this state I always pick my meal carefully obviously it’s not going to be a salad and of course it’s going to be high in calories & fat so it needs to be worth it!

After half an hour of tossing up between a triple cheese burger from McDonald or curry from the mall – she suggested Gengis Khan in Epsom? It’s all you can eat :O it was a good decision, and I don’t regret it one bit. We were the first up to order there was such a variety of meats and fresh vegetables it was hard to choose.

Now the sides were not your ordinary sides. You had options like mac and cheese, nachos, chips, sushi spring rolls and amazing salad/pasta salads which was fine with me of course I wanted to try a little bit of everything.

We saw all these kids running back with cute Micky mouse pancakes, drizzled with chocolate sauce and ice-cream so we knew we had to leave room for that. It came that time and I got x2 pancakes which were cooked perfectly (you start freaking out cause the guys cooking the meats at the same time as well) mad multi-tasking skills! With two scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, with caramel sauce, nuts and chocolate sauce.

We left satisfied, full, content, and all the regrets from the night before were forgotten about.

#NoRagrets

Good restaurant and good set up. Ur likely to spend a couple of hrs eating and relaxing. Soups, salads, grills, sushi were nice.. U can eat as much so go there empty stomach. U choose urmest nd veges.. They are grilled nice as per ur tastes.. Pasta was not the perfect one though.. They serve pancakes and ice cream for desert which was a good surprise as menu stated ice cream.. Good experience.. Nothing great..

A cool place to have team dinners or family gatherings. You get a variety of buffet options here and also a peace of mind that the meat is freshly cooked in front of your eyes.

The soups, sides & the mains were all tasty with a overall happening ambience too.

I'll go back here 👍🏼

A special type of BBQ, unlike Korean BBQ, in Gengis you choose your own food and the chief will cook it for you. There is basically a lot of meat and cooked dishes like fries, fried rice and stuff. In terms of the food quality, the marinated meat seemed a bit off due to its smell. The restaurant is quite dark and it is noisy as well, it didn't leave me a good impression. I would recommend this place for a group of 5+ people like having a birthday dinner and stuff.
Dilini Perera
I went with a friend on a week day. Staff was friendly. Had many meat and sea food options to choose from, also other ingredients. had a good selection of oils and sauces. There were prepared food options as well. Food was nice. For dessert there were pancake and ice cream. Would recommend for a group celebration as well.

Cant really go wrong with cooking your own meat with the sauces you picked yourself.

They simply just cook whatever you give them on the big round metal thing - kinda like a mongolian version of teppanyaki.

Actually pretty good quality of meat & veges.

Also for $26 per person for dinner, I reckon this place is better than 70% of overpriced small portioned restaurants out there.

Good service as well!

They also have pancake section - with ice cream. This is a bonus.
Genghis Khan is great for groups. If you have a birthday or family dinner, it's suitable for everyone.

You can choose whatever you like, picking you meat, vegetables, noodles, add sauce and oil, then the chefs cook it on the round hotpot for you.

It's relatively well priced at $26 for all you can eat! : )

Nice and friendly staff as well, came in last Sunday with my Gf, we must say the service is more than our expection for that kind of buffet restaurant.

Would definitely go back!
Razelle Icaro
Celebrated my friend's 21st birthday here. We were a pretty big group so they reserved a table for us outside in the patio area. It's pretty similar to the other Genghis Khan branches I've been too. There were a variety of cooked dishes, and if you want to make your own, the ingredients set on the benches were fresh too. Staff were very hospitable too. Would definitely go back!
Dee
Good place, good price. Food was okay. You pick and choose the meat, chicken, pork, lamb or seafood, veggies and sauces. There's a big board at the sauce station which shows what spices and ingredients to use and you can watch the chef cook your food in front of you. There are also some salad, fried rice, spring rolls, sushi, pasta, soup and bread at the buffet table and also you can ask the chef to make you some pancakes when you are ready for dessert. Selections of ice cream and toppings also available at the dessert buffet. So yea, it's quite a neat place.
HJ
You can't really go wrong at Ghenis Khan as your basically making your own meal yourself! With a variety of ready made cold and hot dishes, as well as creating your own there should be something for everyone. Because it is all you can eat it's decent value for money. You pick your meat, sauces and veggies then the chefs will cook it up for you on the BBQ - it's a good experience and usually the wait isn't long. Service here is pretty minimal as its all help yourself! A good option for groups!

I would agree with the other reviewers: Genghis Khan Epsom is a cut above the others. While they operate in much the same manner, Epsom seems better maintained, with classier décor and atmosphere. The staff are generally friendly although one waitress seemed to be having a bad day the second time we were there. And as with the others' experiences, the line for the BBQ was long and could have been better laid out. Perhaps a numbering system with tags would be better, so customers don't have to stand for 10-15 minutes in line waiting to drop off their raw food, and then 8-12 more minutes waiting for their food to be cooked. With a better system, diners could go on to the other food available, such as the salads and hot food while waiting. The quality of the already cooked food was quite good; fresh and tasty. Good range of salads (coleslaw, egg salad and sweet chili mussels were very good). The soups (pumpkin and broccoli, yes broccoli!) were excellent and something I always have seconds or thirds of, topped with some croutons or a slice of garlic bread and sometimes a sinful cube of butter. There were some basic hot foods such as two styles of fried rice, fried noodles (which I really enjoyed), hot chips, etc. - standard but adequate. Desserts were very limited but average - some fresh fruits, canned versions and jelly. Everyone went for the pancakes and ice cream, which is a nice touch but something I could always easily do at home, so I wasn't keen. Overall I enjoyed both the food and atmosphere of Genghis Khan Epsom, but for over $25 a visit the long queue and waiting around for the BBQ was something I could just barely tolerate as it drags out the dining session unnecessarily. I think the concept is novel and interesting, but the system could be better by far. I suppose I could look at it positively and say that the wait is a good time to let any previously consumed food go down to make more space, and I would agree the time you wait in line is more than enough for you to feel a bit hungry again when you finally get your food back from the BBQ! Oh, and a word of advice - do NOT mix your meats. The very first time I did Mongolian BBQ, I mixed chicken, beef and pork together, topped with some veges, slopped on some sauce and garlic oil, and when I got it all back cooked, everything tasted the same! LOL! So pick only one type of meat each trip and you'll enjoy the taste of your creation much more...
Ed
Decent place where you get to take whatever you want from the buffet and the staff will cook it on a grill right in front of you.
Lines a re a bit long and desserts are lacking, but otherwise and interesting place to try at least once.

Food: 5.5/10
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Value: 3/5
Overall: 15.5/25

Arrived here 30minutes early to beat traffic only to find out that they didnot have a record of our booking. Manager eager to turn us away at opening time which is not good at all. She didnot apologise for anything..given she clearly states she is the only person that takes reservations. Food was okay ..line was long to get it cooked .. waiters were crappy and not trained to smile or have manners..Managers need to train them on customer service or hire experienced waiters . Would never go again .overall stink service no customer service. no respect for customers ..dirty cups even.. need reall upgrade..expected more from you epsom ..
Tina
I had booked in advance for 20 people a week before my daughter's birthday and confirmed again a day before the birthday. When we arrived there were only 14 seats booked. Which they advised us we had to wait for the family next to us to leave before we could get those extra seats. It is very crowded in the weekend and very noisy. Had to wait for 30 mins in line to get to the chef to cook our food. The food was okay.
Rohan
Its different style that we should try. Its all about choosing urself a meat and different sauces. Should not visit in peak hours. Those who are not from hospitality background please do check suggestions given by Gengis Khan as its difficult to choose sauce combinations. Its worth to try but go early and spend more time as its buffet styale so savour and slowly enjoy your food.

Great Place, but you have to go there in off peak hours. Queuing at the grill is a bit annoying, but tasted really good. The overall taste depends on the meat and spices you pick, so choose them with care. Food is way fresher than any other restaurants. Definitely Recommended.

Hi
The customer service was wonderful I must say!
Although the food wasn't too great, I found that my meal that was being cooked was burnt in some portions of my food and that the long wait in line didn't help either.
Taking extra time to cook the food would be an improvement!

Best genghis khan in Auckland in my opinion. Service and hygiene standards are much higher than other branches and the food seems a lot fresher. This is probably because they do get quite a lot of customers which makes the atmosphere a lot better compared to other branches. Their hot food bar seems to have more options compared to other branches too. Def recommend.

I love Gengis Khan and Epsom sure does deliver. It is well worth the longer drive to this branch, from Pukekohe.

And as always, it is great value!

We were a party of 5 that didn't book but the staff made a special effort to find us seating even though they were super busy.
This is an excellent place to take a group of varied people because you can essentially make your own meal. Grab a bowl, pile it full with meats, marinaded and plain, vegetables, flavoured oils and sauces and other toppings like sesame seeds and peanuts. Then you hand the bowl to the grill chefs who cook it in front of you and hand you a full plate. You can then add extra sauce to your plate if you like.
There are extras like spring rolls, soups, salads, mac and cheese, nachos and chips to round off your meal.
Everyone can have something different and tailor make their meal which is great. And there's even dessert. It wasn't the highlight of the meal but it was a nice ending of ice cream with toppings and cones. You can also have pancakes, made to order in front of you and for kids they'll make them look like Mickey Mouse.

Unfortunately I was told no photos but I managed to sneak a few in which is good! There was also a long queue for food but it felt longer than it actually took to get it all done so don't feel daunted by it.

I would definitely go back to Gengis Khan with a group of people but I might go during the week so it's not as busy.

Went to celebrate 2 birthdays we had during the week with 6 adults, a 1 year old, 2 year old and 1.5 month old. They seated us beside a rowdy bunch of young rugby players who were drinking and very loud. We asked to be seated away from the noise and they advised we couldn't be relocated yet as there were no seats available, funny that because inside there were plenty of seats available. We finally moved inside after 2 requests to be seated away from them. Food was mediocre nothing to write home about. The younger 2 toddlers hardly touched the food yet we were required to pay $4.95 + their age which was well over the top to pay for the young ones as they should be free if all other adults are paying.

went there for dinner with my family, the food was alright...
But it felt over priced, as the buffet lacked variation. And did not feel like it was worth the $25 to be honest. The place was very crowded and noisy on the weekends, and hard to get decent seats, unless booked in advance. The over priced beverages was another con. In comparison to other buffet restaurants where they supplied FREE beverages apart from water to the customers. Again it did not feel it was worth the $25.

Went there for a birthday dinner, food was fine, very noisy though. They got the table number mixed up and chased me out the door. Then told me you need 5 people to qualify for a birthday discount unlike the other Mongolian BBQ restaurants out there that ask for 4 and charged me extra $. Told me they won't make an exception for me after their mistake so I won't be going back.

Last night we held a pre-booked company dinner at Gengis Khan Epsom. Our group was 64 in size. I was impressed with the service; and the quality & variety of the food; and the drinks menu was quite extensive. We enjoyed the atmosphere, it was fantastic for getting our team to mix with a wide variety of people while preparing their ingredient choices and while waiting for food to be cooked on the massive hot grill. We took the Gengis Khan team by surprise by starting to arrive about 20 minutes earlier than we’d booked (Auckland traffic is unpredictable) - but they still welcomed us warmly. The service was fantastic, albeit a little slow given the large size of our group. The team had a wonderful time, they enjoyed being able to choose their own ingredients and experiment with the huge variety of sauces, oils etc. And even though the youngest in our group was over 20 years old, the Mickey Mouse pancakes and ice cream made everyone’s eyes light up with joy. All in all, a really good night out and highly recommended.

Went there tonight with friends, service and foods was excellent...it was fun to looked at the chefs cooked our meals, thank you chefs, for cooking our meals fresh even though it was scaling hot in the stove area

Disappointing service - dined here tonight with friends and their kids -Service was good to start with but within 20 mins a flooding of groups turned up and we were politely reminded of our required leave time. We then midway through our visit were asked if we really needed our a few of our chairs for the children (5 year olds) because of limited seat availability.
We were asked to leave 10 mins early and advised that people were waiting for our seats. My daughter and my friends pregnant wife walked out with there desert plates (slow eaters) and drink and finished the rest of their food outside next to the smokers. A real shame considering I had heard such good things about this place.
The food was good but the customer service was poor.
Maybe there was a bad shift working tonight but either way I won't be going back there in a hurry.

I came here once for a dinner with some friends. I was disappointed. I was expecting some kind of menu to give me an idea of what to eat but there was nothing. Don't like the fact that the staff doesn't serve you for drinks. Food was alright wasn't amazing. Ended the night with pancakes which were not cooked right, all I could taste was the mixture.

On July 20th 2013, we celebrated my late son 'Rowan Hanif's' 21st birthday here. We were comfortably seated outside to accommodate the large number of family & friends & we were catered to at every level by the staff that night. Some of the group were first timers there but all agreed that it was worth it not only with the food and service but the relaxing environment as well. Even though the place was packed, our group had a real blast. We will recommend it to others and it always pays to book in advance. Keep up the good work.

This is the only Genghis Khan restaurant that we would go. Food taste good, staff and service are good. Sometimes can be quite busy. Love the concept of choosing the meat you prefer and sauces to go into it. No worries for first timer as there are clear instructions of what to do. Love pancake and ice cream as well. Definitely a hit for children and some adults :). Recommended to a few friends, they usually will bring their visitors from overseas to try them, usually Americans.

Our two kids (11 & 8 yrs) really love this place so when I celebrated my birthday recently they decided this was the place to go. We have been here before & we had enjoyed it. The kids love choosing their meals & being able to go back for seconds & thirds. Drinks came out on time, food was tasty overall, service good, and the self service pancakes & ice cream for dessert is a real bonus with the kids. It's not gourmet cuisine and it's definitely not a place for romantic dinners. I agree with previous comments - this is a great restaurant for families or groups.

The kids really wanted to go here, they had been before for birthdays and had really enjoyed it. We thought it was a nice evening, drinks came out on time, food was nice, service good, pancakes for dessert were a nice treat. Overall, I felt this was a good family type restaurant, value for money, great for hungry teenagers and would go again.

Like the reviewers below we headed along for a family dinner (was Gengis Khan the family dinner god?).

It is very much 'it is what it is' type place and you need to take it as it comes. We found the food ok and there was a good selection of meat, however the seafood selection was poor.

Hard to judge the service as there is not much required.

Fingers crossed we don't have another family dinner planned soon.

We had a family dinner last Sunday night but the food not so good, the rice was uncooked and the food when the busy times all the cooked food got burnt stuff from the griller..tasty sauce also sweet ....charged $25 per person, the quantity is good but the quality not good.

Gutted!! After hearing good reviews about Gengis Khan Epsom, we decided to book there for my son's 21st. A big mistake! When we arrived, getting past everyone was a mission and when we were shown to our table (in the outdoor area) we were squashed together like sardines. The food line was so long that it was almost to the door, it was enough for you to want to sit back down, but being hungry we braved on. Some of us had babies and toddlers and elderly guests who attended the celebration, so we went up with two plates to the grill area and after waiting in line for half an hour, we were still harshly growled, (only 1 allowed) We thought, it will get better, but no, after numerous times of asking for water, even having to go to the bar, we were still ignored. Our table was unattended and with what food we did manage to get, dishes just sat there. By the end of the dinner, we were tired, hungry and quite upset about the overall service and treatment. I do not recommend this restaurant for a group outing, We believe they well overbooked too many people to dine on Dec 1st, that their staff couldn't keep up and provide the service and standards that customers paid for, and at the end of the night, it was for profit not customer satisfaction. Highly disappointed and almost $450.00 out of mine and my son's guests pockets.

Awesome!!!!! We went there yesterday with my husband. Both of us agreed that the Epsom one is the best out of all Gengis Khan's we've been to. The Broccoli soup was magical.
Will go there many many times again
p.s. the price is good as well. 25$ per person is great!!

Lovely food, great environment, lovely staff -What more could you ask! Would be great for a work party as you can choose so many different options. Thank you will come again often. Fun place with parking and environment.

I think it's pretty cool it has a lot of food and you'll get full really easily, sadly there's not that much desserts but other then that it's pretty cool. :P

I've been to the one out in South and East but this is the best I think in terms of taste/selection/service. Professional staff always willing to serve and go out of their way to help. Will definatly go there again! As for Valentines buffet restaurant, goodBYE!

I travel from Mangere to Epsom just to dine in. The place is comfortable and relax the atmosphere was just right. Way better than going to Manukau :))

ive been here once.we had a table of 8.great looking restaurant, probably the best gengis khan in auckland.the ambience and decor of the restaurant is very cosy and warm.the food selection was great and topped quickly.maybe one critique would be the way the hotplate is set up in the middle of the room which means it doesnt have the flow that it should and people are aimlessly walking over without starting at the queue.would go back again though!

This place is awesome! Yes it is small, but i prefer it as bigger places get a little too busy. Great variety compared to other places that are similar. Definitely one of my Favs. Have booked in for a big birthday this weekend. :)

Its been years since I've been to a Gengis Khan, so recently when I went for a birthday with a bunch of friends - it was a good change. Buffet style eatery with a bar at the front too.

We went on a Saturday night, so it was actually completely packed, thankfully we had already booked a few days a head of time, so we were able to get some seating, though, it was not grouped together, we were spread out into three different groups which was a downside. The buffet was awesome, meat was good (didn't get sick, so that's always a good sign) selection was pretty good, and the sauces were awesome. Its awesome seeing food cooked right in front of your eyes, but I guess the night we went, the lines were rather long, so we were too hungry. Most of us ate the ready to eat food because the lines were too long for us to have the meat selection. Dessert were ice cream and fresh made pancakes :3 Yummy!

Over all, it was a pretty decent joint to check out, the staff was already around to help out if you needed anything, though they did lack the smile, also got to mention the chefs - no smile whatsoever, but I guess having to cook non-stop, in front of a flame and catering to a bunch of people and getting annoyed when other people takes someone else's dish, I don't blame them. Mega cheap and affordable, great for a group gathering and people can just choose whatever they prefer.

I went here for my 18th birthday dinner and to be honest, it's one of the best buffets I've had in New Zealand! If it's your birthday you eat free (which is good, because I ate the most in my group :P haha) if you drag along 5 friends. There's technically starters and dessert, but I just ate several plates of the mains all night :P mostly because I prefer those savoury almost stir fry kind of dishes to soup and icecream and whatnot, although my friend told me the waffles were really really good. You can pick whatever you like from heaps of ingredients ranging from meat, both seasoned and non-seasoned kinds, to vegetables such as bean sprouts and lettuce, to an array of sauces and so on. You pile it onto your plate, hand it to the chefs who are standing around a circular continuous stove, and they grill/stir fry it before your very eyes. It's sort of a mixture of both. I really like how you can pick what you want to eat and then watch them cook it and then eat it while it's still fresh and steaming hot. There's also some ready-to-eat stuff like baked potatoes and chunky fries and other things I don't quite remember that you can pick up along the way from the stove to your table. It's pretty much self-serve, but I like it that way. Highly recommend you go here and try this out for yourself!
