Review The Kingslander - Auckland Central

M and M Pr Productions
Awesome 👌 central Auckland business. Paid parking outside, yet CLEAR way from 4pm to 6pm....so best to park outside venue from 6pm onwards...Great food, drinks, location and events. Try out Salsa on Wednesdays 8pm with Coco Salsa Con, and Quiz nights on TuesdaysđŸ„°đŸ™‚

Great place for Lunch - Food coma experienced by our growing teenagers, foods delicious, great portions & most importantly satisfied the hungry bellies😅 The Private function upstairs area layout looked inviting an intimate space for all types of group events. Looking forward to coming back here soon 🙌(Thanks Thea)

Great atmosphere and a great live band. People were having a fantastic time, will definitely go back.

Gotta give this bar an honest review since so many people complained about the food and hygiene. Came here on Thursday night all u can eat ribs & open mic. It’s exactly what I imagine a greasy old bar with cool vibe is. The ribs are very nice, actually way nicer than what I had at other all u can eat places, yes, it’s not sparkling clean, but I didn’t go to an old bar expecting it that way. Love the open mic!!!! So many cool people performing. Will be back!

Came in last week Friday with some friends, amazing service & bar staff were super accommodating! From where we were sitting we noticed a few people being aggressive & rude towards one of the bar staff who was trying to calm them down. It’s a shame that such behaviour happens especially towards a wonderful bunch of staff. Apart from that the Ladies Night cocktail is amazzzinnngg & band was awesome! Defs be back

Went to this venue for a private function recently but have been previously for lunch etc. Great selection of beers on tap and has quality food options. Highly recommended if going to a event near busy like rugby or a concert and the near by Eden Park.

Had a party upstairs it was 21st birthday with a perfect buffet meal at the party amazing food. The Venue is excellent for a private party and staff was helpful and everyone had an amazing night with DJ.

Amazing stonegrill. Angus beef, lamb shoulder and smoked chicken. Beef and lamb are tender and juicy. Smoked chicken is full of flavor. Great customer service, quick and super friendly. Love it. Will definitely come back for good vibe and food.

Very busy with rugby game on when we (6 people) arrived with no booking but the waiter seated us with no fuss and provided excellent and friendly service throughout our meals, providing prompt answers to any dietary questions. Food was enjoyed by all of us as good pub fare. It was very loud but that’s to be expected in a sports bar during a game. 5 star service- thanks!

Good LLB and great spot in front of the fire for watching football

Went here for my Birthday, and with First Table. As soon as we arrived stood there for over 5+ mins to get anyone's attention to show us to a table.<br/>Menu was not what I had seen online, as I was trying to cater to everyone's tastes. Found it difficult for my<br/>15 year old to find anything..?? She eventually got a vegan burger, it was bland and tasteless. Except for a nice lady, who I believe was manager, staff was very slow to come to table. Ordered 2 chicken burgers, bread was brioche, which was too oily for a burger.. Better with French toast. Also pork belly burger, it was too drippy, it made....a mess. Noone came and asked how our meals were? When we finished we ended up going up to bar to pay bill, as noone asked if we would like anything else or if we wanted dessert? They did end up taking vegan burger off our bill, which was nice of them. <br/>To The Kingslander, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR MENU ON YOUR WEBSITE, it is very misleading.. Especially as you are trying to cater to everyone's tastes, based on that menu. <br/>

Great food, excellent place to watch a game, attentive staff, great place upstairs at nectar for a birthday party

Had booked Nectar for my 21st. Poor communication when booking the venue, staff were not ready to be in charge of an event that was bringing upwards of $5000. Did not have the right amount of food that I had paid 1.5k for and booked 2 weeks in advanced. I had 50 people, and I paid for 70 just incase, the compensation were a couple small pizzas and a platter of fries. This was not what I asked for. I had to ask multiple times to get the mic and my own music to be sorted when booked 2 weeks in advance again and the boxes were left out next to some dirty brooms in plain sight. Upon arrival tables and floor was still dirty with cake from a different event. Some staff were unprofessional and were not interested. Only saving grace was the correct food was delicious and and the venue was beautiful! Would go to an event here but NEVER have another there!

Great atmosphere, warm and cozy seats with access to live music ( Friday night) variety of punters across all ages, pretty good table service with friendly staff.. now to the downsides, we ordered 2 portions of pub style fries, wedges and few whiskey based cocktails. The cocktails were sub par and were not worth the money at all. Fries were sloppy and not crispy/crunchy/seasoned. The wedges were great though<br/>Overall I would probably not go there again and my hunt for good cocktails in Auckland still continues

Just recently came back with a group of 6<br/>Great new tasty menu, that seafood chowder is far best one anywhere in Nz. Lots of smoky choices. Food came out pretty quickly <br/>Service is always friendly <br/>Definitely recommend

We have been here quite a few times<br/>Good atmosphere<br/>Unusual seating<br/>Mixed dining<br/>Great beers<br/>Can get a mixture of punters in here<br/>Pool tables!<br/>But the food has always been pretty good<br/>Good Kingsland pub option

Came here for an whiskey tasting event and the experience was AWESOME.<br/><br/>Well catered food that was tasty and variety. Pulled pork slices, Thai salads, fresh foccia with cheese and ham. We were expecting food, but we weren’t expecting such tasty food. We were upstairs in their function room ( I assume ), big space with an outdoor patio. <br/><br/>Taken on a tasting experience of the famous Chivas whiskey range, we went through the origins of the whiskey in Scotland, the unique creation process and learning about cute techniques like ‘ Angel Tears ‘ to appreciate whiskey. <br/><br/>A wonderful event, great atmosphere and some great cocktails.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Food was superb and the whiskey expert made for an eventful evening.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A

friendly staffs. But 10 of us went there during lunch time, we were the only customer. Took 1hr and half for foods to come out and calamari were salty as that I felt like my brain was melting. Staffs were kind enough to bring us blend calamari which were eatable. Good for drink and chill

Not really sure why this place gets so many negative reviews, because overall my family and I had a great dining experience!<br/><br/>We ordered 4 stone grilled dishes that each comes with 2 sides and a sauce of choice. I think the overall concept of cooking on a piping hot stone was pretty unique as it the stone grill allows us to cook our meat how we like it and even make stir fry vegetables that really goes well with the meat. I give their service a 5/5 as it was fast, friendly and they were extremely prompt.<br/><br/>The only downside is with the mushroom sauce. The mushroom didn’t taste as fresh. It was more like something that came from a can. I also think this place can be a bit overpriced if compared with other steakhouses even with a voucher.<br/><br/>

I was looking forward to going to this bar as my friend worked here years ago and used to enjoy coming. We came in for a team work lunch. The food and the service was beyond bad. The food took 45 minutes to come out and when it did it wasn’t all together. One plate at a time came out which took another 20 minutes. Out of 8 people, 2 people finished their meals. The food was disgusting, by far the worst food I’ve ever had in a restaurant. I don’t know if anyone taste tested the menu before they put it out but it is seriously bad. The ambience of the restaurant and the depressing music doesn’t help either. Will never go back.

Always have a fantastic time here. Brilliant staff members and service. Love their food and options. Highly recommend to everyone to give this place a go and check out the cocktail bar upstairs.

Went here the other night for food. Had the kingsy double bacon cheese burger and he had the beef tacos. Really quick service and they were totally cool with making substitutions for me (more salad instead of fries). The burger was hot juicy and with a crispy caramelised crust. So good. Crispy rather than flabby bacon as well (hurrah!). The tacos were apparently awesome but disappeared before I got to try them 😆.<br/>Very busy on match nights, but friendly crowd and on quieter days grab the seats by the open fire inside - so cosy, what you want from a pub on a cold winter day. <br/>

Came in for dinner with a medium sized group. Our meals were beautiful. We had a couple of stone grill which is a concept is very cool. You pick your meat, sides and sauces and it comes out on a hot stone dusted with salt. You cook it how you like it. I had the beef, cheese and bacon burger which was amazing. Best juiciest burger I’ve had in a long time. my partner had the confit pork belly which was a nice decent portion and and with creamy mash baby vege and apple sauce. Our waitress was friendly and took great care of us while we were there. Fast friendly service and it was kinda busy as well. We will be back.
Shalom Ngaro
The food was very average, nothing to rave about. The waitress sold us the idea of their ribs, all you can eat ribs with a bread loaf and fries, we asked what the difference between their rustic fries and chunky fries were and she had no idea what we were talking about. It took a good 20 mins for the fries and bread to come out then another 30 mins or so for our ribs to come out. By then most of our friends had been served their food and some nearly finished as well. Once our ribs came out the waitress came and asked me if I wanted another plate of ribs and tried to take the plate she JUST served me. When clearing the table, the same waitress dropped a number of dirty plates and cutlery on a friend of mine and just laughed it off. This service was quite shocking, although the bar staff were very nice and welcoming I’d probably never return.

If you wanna wait for an hour for burnt food and eat off a table that hasn't been wiped down then this is the place for you. Also no customer service. Would not recommend.<br/>

The Ribs here were rubbery and fatty and to be honest pretty rubbish. Sorry Kingslander the 2.5 rating is pretty accurate. Was disappointed to be met with spare the meat ribs<br/>
Colleen Henry
We got a big table away from the big groups of people which was great, we ordered ribs, burgers, chicken, the surf and turf and the rib-eye. <br/>The atmosphere was amazing, the wood, the bricks, the mirrors, the lights, the live music, it was soo great and I’d come back to the kingslander just for a beer and the great atmosphere, however, the food could’ve been better. <br/>The AYCE ribs were cold after the first plate because they cook it in one batch and reheat them if you ask for more plates (told by waitress). The chicken in the Waffle burger was hard and crusty and not nice at all and so it made the burger dry as there wasn’t enough maple syrup or other sauce to counteract the dryness. <br/><br/>Not all the food was bad though, the fries were soooo good - best curly fries ever. The pork belly burger, rib eye, steak fries, ciabatta loaf, apricot stuffed chicken, and Surf N Turf were all great!

Our party of 7 dined here for a friends birthday on a Saturday night after the rugby crowd had left and had the worst experience. We had make a reservation for dinner and got put in the upstairs lounge area with a broken, run down couch. We waited for the rugby crowd to leave so we could be at a proper table. To start off, there was no table service (which is understandable as it was the bar area), there was lipstick on a friends drink, then she found an ant on another drink. We went up to the bar to order our food. Over 30 mins later, and after all our friends had finished their meals, we got our warm, chewy squid with a mere 7 pieces and “margarita” pizza (which was just cheese and thick cut tomatoes). By this time the bar was not busy as the crowd had left, it was probably at 45% capacity so ‘being really busy’ is no excuse for the wait or lack of service. Our friends ordered the fish and chips. They’re not fussy people and are happy with a hot meal but couldn’t finish their meal as the fish tasted so horrible and old. Each time our time was delivered, they forgot cutlery. When they did remember the spoons, they were dirty. Lastly, I ordered a self saucing choc pudding which was very average quality, nothing special or supersized, but cost a whopping $18. <br/><br/>To their credit, the female bartender was very friendly and helpful in offering a refund for the fish, the music was great and the portion of ribs was HUGE for $20. It’s just such a shame everything else is such bad quality. I would not recommend or come here again.

We popped in here around 1.30pm for a quick lunch. We ordered fish n chips and salt and pepper squid. The menu said the squid came with crispy capers - but there was none to be found on the plate - the squid was so chewy it was obvious they buy pre cooked & scored then quickly coat it to fry as the coating was almost raw, the squid like rubber. As soon as I cut into the fish, I could smell it and see it was brown. It was very old - the chips were nice but thats not good enough. If you are going to sell food, then do it properly or dont do it at all!

Really disappointing. I made the effort to take friends to watch the rugby and get a bite to eat. Settled into a smaller room to watch the rugby as all other screens in the place were broadcasting the league. 10 minutes into the game and what the...our screen was switched back over to the league! Normally don’t mind the league, but is it necessary on every screen! Not accomodating at all. And this place claims to be a sports bar!

If you want to wait over an hour and a half on a Monday for food then this is definitely the place for you to go!! Had a group of 11 that booked in advance. Ordered food around 7.15pm. Our food didn’t start coming out till 9pm. Restaurant wasn’t busy for a Monday. They were a chef down but considering 4 people had stone grills as meal you’d think they would come out first seeing as there is no cooking involved for chef. This was not the case. They came out last. Trying to get a knife for the cake and a lighter turned out to be the most difficult part of it all. 2 cocktails were ordered and they also took almost 2 hours to come out.

Popped in for dinner after work with a couple of girlfriends, We were greeted by a staff member who very quickly and politely gave us a table and took care of our table and drinks. We started with ordering a couple of entrees to share, being the salt & pepper squid, the pork belly buns and the shredded beef tacos. For my main I ordered the southern fried chicken burger which was oozing with flavour and the chicken was lovely and tender. My friend ordered the rib eye steak, which she asked for medium-rare, and the chef delivered. Overall it was a lovely evening with a great atmosphere to catch up with my friends in, I will definitely come back and bring others. Service was amazing and I really did enjoy the evening, Thank you.<br/><br/>- Will try to make it upstairs to the nectar bar next time as the manager said they have dinner upstairs and also a function room available for hire.

to be brutally honest i was taken aback about an incident that happened at the bar which involved myself falling down which went attended by any of the barstaff...when i rang and told the manager what had happened it was almost like "what do you want me to do about it" attitude...she says ill get one of the owners to get hold of you im still waiting.....wont be going there again sorry.

Perfect for hot chips and a glass of red on a cold night. They have a double sided fire place that you can warm up in front of on a nice comfy couch. Great live music.

A warm and comfortable setting in the heart of Kingsland... helpful staff, but the bartending lady who first served us was a lot more welcoming, helpful and friendly than the other servers were later.<br/><br/>Good choice of drinks and menu options. The Wedges with Bacon were satisfactory and plentiful and so were the Sour Cream & Tomato Salsa they were served with. The JD Buffalo Wings seemed like a steal for the "1 for $1 special" but were really underwhelming as they were tiny as, not particularly Buffalo-y or flavourful otherwise... and upon asking for Ranch dip, was told they only have aioli... odd, since they have at least 2 dishes which contain Ranch sauce in them! Aioli was still yum, though!<br/><br/>Kingsy Bacon Double Cheese Stacker burger - absolutely delicious, the beef was SO YUM even for someone who barely eats it... and though it's tall, it's kinda small for the price! The Monster pizza is MASSIVE as promised and pretty damn good in its taste... more than filling, real good quality and enjoyable. Lastly, the Fisherman's Bucket - well prepared items in this seafood assortment, was liked by all. Ooh, ooh, and I couldn't stop eating the super good chips with aioli!<br/><br/>I'd like to try the Southern Fried Chicken burger and some other pizzas if I go again, some day but this was a decent experience.

Watched the game on Fri night. We were actually surprise how much we enjoyed the bar snacks - generous portion of fries with soup cream and chili sauce, spicy chicken wing, and garlic pizza bread... wished we had gone back Sat night instead of going to the Longroom in Ponsonby on the Sat night<br/>â˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜șâ˜ș

Deserves a greater rating than 2.4! Great place with heaps of a room, good prices and great staff. People have to stop comparing a pub to the Langham.  Been here for the all you can eat ribs and a couple UFC events and its the same quality of service each time. Definitely will be back.

Proper pub feel jack hang out in the heart of kingsland. Place is big but the selection of beer wasn't great. Staff and service was good. Didn't get a chance to stay for to long as by the time we finished the first beer it was closing time around midnight on Friday. They were serving bar snacks still but the place was very quite overall.

$15.50 for a small plate of salt and pepper squid... <br/>

I would not come here again as the money I spent was not worth the price. The curly fries although a big serving was too salty. The veggie penne pasta was $22 again large serving bit too creamy and salty. Partner ordered the ribs and was told it was average with too much bbq sauce. Rating is for the nice staff who served us.
Mat
I came here for a function a while ago and believe the size of this pub can definitely accommodate large groups of people (there were at least 40-50 of us!). The food platters were really good, especially the fried chorizo and marinated chicken mmm amazing! I'd definitely come back next time to try meals
Spencer's Reviews
Have ordered a few snacks and platters, they have been delicious but now wow factor, it was very average. Pizzas are top pick but they are always floppy. The vibe is wonderful though and service was pretty nice.

The 'all you can eat ribs' advertisement was the lure. <br/>Headed over to Kingsland in anticipation, after about 15 minutes trying to find a park and five blocks away I remembered why I don't frequent Kingsland. <br/>Eventually made it, paid upfront, grabbed a beer and sat down ready to enjoy all the ribby goodness no doubt coming our way.<br/>Boy was I wrong, an hour later someone comes out with a plate for each of us with two ribs on it. With more ribs promised we grumpily let it slide.<br/>Half hour later another three plates of two ribs turn up (five of us sitting there). By now we have questioned various staff as to what's up, mixed messages of them running out of ribs, but all the while saying they will see what they can do were received.<br/>This not being good enough, we started making noises about wanting our money back.<br/>Another half hour later and about six confused return trips from the staff and we have our money back and are off to a more organised establishment to eat.<br/>Real lack of leadership at this place. This seemingly unfortunate scenario of not actually having ribs on all you can eat rib night could have deflected a lot of unhappy patrons of the staff actually had half a clue.<br/>1.5 stars as we actually got money back in the end, and the few ribs that we did get were quite nice.<br/>Will not be back.
Food Food Foodie Food
Great as an oversized 'local pub' but that's about it.<br/>Food is not great. Beers are moderately priced and they always have some sports on the T.V. <br/>As long as you know what you're looking for you can have a pretty good night with some mates here.

A group of us booked for the "FIGHT OF THE CENTURY" (haha...) on Sunday, which was great - cheap tickets... good seats... vibe..etc..<br/><br/>But for a well known 'Sports Bar', you think they would have been at least NEARLY prepared in the kitchen... prepared is an under statement... nothing, from what we found out, is made on site. <br/><br/>Which means, the standard of food is below average to start with... and they actually had basic ingredients / meals not available - despite their menu stating otherwise. <br/>This is basic 101 hospo guys... <br/>Considering this 'Fight' (haha... dance) was going to be a big seller for them... you think they would have prepared at least ensured they had the basic condiments and NACHOS available as per their menu. <br/><br/>Pick it up 'The Kingslander"  - if it wasn't for your ever apologetic, well groomed, well trained staff... (you should possibly consider paying them more... ) the day would have been a massive flop and I would have rated you a zero! <br/>Or even better, get a chef. At least the food would be fresh and better quality along with the great service you already have I'm sure you would be able to up hold that old good fashioned rep you used to have. <br/><br/>if you want a recruitment company to help you out let me know... they are over flowing with incredible chefs and staff (not that yours are not already great considering the current situation)...<br/><br/>Keep it up staff!! (They get a 5.0)

We had the most disgusting experience with staff at this establishment. After a lovely dinner with my husband, not at the Kingslander, we went to enter when the security refused my husband and told him he needed to eat, we informed him of what we had just done and the general manager stood and laughed at us and then found the need to stick her finger up at us as we were departin in a cab. Such disgusting behaviour seeing we had not done anything wrong or even argued we were simply trying to go for a drink after dinner. The establishment was pretty much empty so you would think they would want the buissness but I will be telling everyone I know how disgusting and rude they were and to not go there.

Disappointed. I went to The Kingslander the other day for a Xmas lunch for work. I ordered the Beef eye fillet and asked for it medium rare. When the brought it out, they forgot the kumara crisps so I had to remind them. The steak was well-done, not medium-rare as I had asked. I asked them to re-do it so they did but still was slightly over-done. The overall taste wasn't particularly nice-I could have done a lot better at home. To top it all off they didn't even give me a discount even though I received my meal after the rest of my group had finished eating.<br/><br/>On a positive note, the waitress was nice enough.

This was our first visit to The Kingslander, as I've heard so many of my work colleges rattle on about this big place. <br/>My fiancé and I arrived for an early tea at 6.30pm on a Wednesday, the atmosphere was buzzing with a good mix of business to casually dressed guys and girls , the music was good. The waiter greeted us and took us to a table away from the bar, our drinks came quickly which was good as I was thirsty! <br/>We started with the 'Bad Boy Wedges' topped with a fair amount of bacon / grated cheese / chili etc which was rather large but good, we didn't finish as knew there was mains to come ! <br/><br/>My partner ordered the Lambs Shanks with a herb mash, steamed vegs with a mint jus, which were so tender that the meat just fell off the bone, I think I ate 1/3 of Tims main which he wasn't too happy about! I ended up ordering the Moraccan Lamb Salad which was full of flavour and a good amount of sliced lamb. <br/>I then ordered a dessert as I have a sweet tooth! The sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream which was only warm but very tasty! <br/>Now I'm full, no one came over to give us a bill so we went up to the bar to pay , the restaurant and bar was full by now as our waiter said that Salsa Dancing has started upstairs at the Nectar Bar , we popped up and had a noisy , wow I liked what I saw , v cool , sexy salsa dancing with partners , and alot of singles & couples laughing and thrilled to be dancing , I'm going back next Wedneday with fiancé to let my hair down!!<br/><br/><br/>Great night - totally recommend this place for a enjoyable evening . <br/>

Tonight, was a special occasion for a close friend of ours who will be starting on a new journey and chapter in his life so we wanted to celebrate! Because it was about him, he chose the venue for a lovely dinner, and get together with all the reviews written about "The Kingslander" was a whole lot of bananas...seriously, from the moment we walked in Service was sh*t! Bartenders being sarcastic and waitresses speaking out loud about "how they have been waiting for this and rubbing the menus, saying something like "oh, I've never loved holding this much menus" as if to say Yayee this will be a big bill, my sales...as if! So we walked over to the table ourselves (even though we clearly booked) and 10mins later waiter brings the menu, meanwhile we have already ordered a whole heap of drinks to warm up (for a group of 12) as we were socialising and having a few laughs, one of our friends walk over to the bar and orders our entree, the entree was chicken strips, deep fried onion rings, calamari, and garlic bread, oh and badboy wedges - the order came out and it was a bad start, deep fried onion rings "ewww", calamari the worst I have tasted in my whole life, real cluggy and fishy, chicken strips - looked burnt they overkilled the chicken all over again, the wedges well, didn't say sweet chilli on the bad boy wedges, but it came out with sweet chilli all over it! so the waiter comes back and says "oh, im sorry guys but the chefs kitchen will be closed soon you need to order your mains now! Bare in mind this is only 20-30mins since we arrived, so we quickly order, it gets better, half of the menu on mains wasn't available NO steak NO Pork available! Oh and only 2x crispy chicken left - there wasn't much choice for us to order from as there was only 5x main dishes on their mains anyway and that was beef rib, pork, steak, chicken and fish and chips! REALLY? Where is Gordon Ramsay when we need him! So everyone orders, meanwhile, while we are waiting an annoying/screaming band entertains us, well lets say it was more chasing everyone out of the bar, and everyone nearby off the entire street! it was that bad who in the world would hire/pay for them, maybe they were FREE, 1hr waiting, finally we see 2x mains come out, it was the chicken (1/2 crispy chicken remember only 2x left) basically it was a whole chicken cut in half in some soy sauce, the other half for one dish and the other one for the 2nd crispy chicken order, honestly i could've gone to a Chinese takeaway to order this, I must say it would've been cheaper and tasted better! 10mins later fish n chips arrive...in a fruit looking weaved basket, yep looked like an entree rather than mains! 10-15mins later rib dish arrives, and it was disgusting! One dish was a slow cooking brisket, swimming in sauce that looked like butter chicken sauce but did not taste anything like it, the ginger was over powering it took over the whole dish, the rice that accompanied the dish was inedible, was hard and seemed old dried basmati rice, I certainly did not touch my food and I looked around the table so did the others, very very disappointing, this is how bad it was - McDonald's/Wendy's never looked so good! Did I also mention that after our entrees our tables were never cleared, yep mains came out and we had to move our empty glasses and 1/2 uneaten entree bowls/plates over to the next table!! Seriously! Frustrating/dissatisfied Night! Ill never ever recommend and I won't even tell my friends/families about this place heck I wouldn't even mention I have been there, this is the honest truth and update review on this place, big thumbs down, in the end they knew we were disappointed they never charged us for any of the mains, but I must address and put this forward it was not about the money - IT was about getting fantastic service and having some great bistro food! Unfortunately this was not the case! Bad service....no stars at all!!!

For food I give this place a thumbs up, the all you can eat ribs are pretty awesome value for money and tasted really good.<br/><br/>For their cocktails - it's a big thumbs down. I had the most fowl mojito I have ever had in my life. The mint was pretty old and feral. Will stick to bottled beverages when coming here.

Thelma: just happened to wander in and what a pleasant surprise. Staff were welcoming and service was excellent. My mouth had several food orgasms from the selection of entree's we ordered. <br/><br/>Louise: great atmosphere, great service, and great food. Highly recommend to anyone the Thai mussels, king prawns and the chicken wings plus they have a great selection of beer on tap.. Awesome afternoon out with my best buddy..

Had a voucher as we all do these days.<br/><br/>Had a nice seafood platter for 4 but shared between three of us. Some items missing from the deal, would've been good if they'd replaced it with fries or other bread etc. Nice food and tasty for pub fare. <br/><br/>Tables well spaced so you can talk or watch a game and the place is light and airy. Staff are friendly and helpful.<br/><br/>Would recommend this place during Rugby days as it goes off! Great Fun! A nice neighbourhood pub.
Sharon
Nice atmosphere with loads of individual seating areas for patrons whether large or small groups. The young lady who served us was really friendly and efficient, thanks for that. The seafood platter we had was very tasty although I suspect a little on the light side, quantity wise from what had been described on the deal. No smoked salmon, tempura prawns or warm sourdough with dips, but what was there including mussels-very fresh &amp; squid-very tender was nicely presented. Maybe they were just going with what was avail on the day, but watch the garlic bread, bit chewy (not quite the sourdough &amp; dips). All in all, a nice break in the day for a tasty lunch. Thanks.
Debbie
We purchased an online voucher. Phoned and made booking on a Saturday night. All the staff were very friendly, we had the seafood platter which was excellent. Great atmosphere, the fire was going. Watched the rugby on the big screen. We will definately be going back here, highly recommend!
Leigh Beattie
Went with a voucher and the food was tasty well cooked and a very good size portion. The staff relaxed and friendly we felt well looked after. The chocolate cake is divine, the only down side of that is the ice-cream on the side was not the best quite icy and not creamy. The only down side was the muck up with the booking, I had rang the office during the day for the booking and although they said they had gotten the book and written it down no record of my booking could be found. Luckily they still had tables that night so disaster avoided. But we still had a very pleasant dinner.
Katy Thomas
Sick of confirming details with staff at the Kingslander days before a Warriors game, turning up to the venue hours before hand, spending money on food &amp; drinks and then finding out "it wont be shown" or "It wont have sound on" Get it right &amp; if you can't confirm then say so! Never going back...
Jessica
This place is amazing, there is a rustic old look &amp; feel about the place, however, it is welcoming. We went there for dinner, and were take upstairs to an intimate dining hall, where we were looked after by the same waiter, who was very attentive. There was a roaring hot out door fire on the deck for those who were out side having a couple of quiet drinks. We were seated and served our first drinks promptly, then our meal order was taken. We ordered a garlic bread to start, this was nice, crunch crust, with soft bread to bite through. I ordered a sirloin, medium rare with crispy fries and a fresh seasonal salad - Beautiful... and my partner had lambshanks, with kumara &amp; potato hash, the shanks were huge and the meat just fell off the bone!! definilty will go back there.

It needs to be less posh and appeal to students a tad more as it is a student based area. i wouldn't eat dinner there as it is quite expensive a quiet drink is less up stairs.

It's fine - it's a pub, it has beer. The food isn't anything amazing, and the atmosphere is... average. But, it's a pub.
