Review Chinese Spicy Restaurant - Auckland Central

Outstanding food taste! And a good potion. I asked my son, would you like to come back next time. YES!

Customer service was A+. The Lady boss was really nice and kept checking up on us and make sure that everything is alright. She keeps checking our teapot as well to make sure we have enough, without us asking her to top up anything. She also recommended their popular dishes to us patiently despite of our questions haha. Overall the dining experience was good and we love the pork stomach soup.

One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been too. Have been going to this place for 6 years now. Never have been disappointed. The spicy wontons are amazing, the pork (回锅肉) is to die for, everything is amazing here. Good customer service, good food and CHEAP PRICES.

Very unassuming from the outside. Quaint little place inside, with warm nice ambiance. Very good quality food with good portion size. Total value for money!! I had the best dumplings in Auckland here. Soft thin layer outside with nice juicy meat inside. Yummm... Would go here again to try out other dishes which got my attention.

Authentic Sichuan spicy food. My go to dishes are Mapo tofu, and beef or fish in chili broth (水猪肉)

This is my favourite restaurant! I travel here from Helensville haha Some things are so spicy you get into a trance and you just eat more and more and you know you should stop but just can't because it's too delicious.

I decided to come lured by the average 4.2 stars. Definitely not disappointed. I personally love the intensity of szechuan cuisine and the meals by this restaurant hit all the right spots. We ordered spicy pork and prawn special szechuan sauce and they were ACE! The staff was hospitable too. The interior low key and very family cosy. I love this place! Will come back!

Went with 11 others for lunch on Sunday. An oasis of authentic Sichuan food and attentive friendly Chinese service. Very clean and well deserved top A grade council certificate.

Very nice service. Got green tea while waiting for my take-away. Very accommodating for special eating requirements which is not common in other Chinese restaurants.

best tasting Chinese restaurant in Auckland, decent service considering the language barrier. i always get from the lunch special menu because its size and price is perfect. also when dinning in they give you free tea which is nice
The staff even though are not great English speakers were very helpful and that’s a big plus for this sort of restaurant. Hence the 3 rating. The food was hit and miss. The spicy chicken dish we ordered was awesome. However the salty prawns were sooo salty it wasn’t edible. It is called salty on the menu but quite sure it shouldn’t have been that salty.

We got into this restaurant for dinner with my partner, found this metal bit (around 6cm long) from the bowl of rice and was in the middle of dinner. We told the staff member, he brought us new bowl of rice which we refused to have it as it seems like from the same rice pot. Anyways my partner doesnt want to make a big trouble with them and we were hungry so we continued having other dishes, leaving left over as it was salty without having rice. They apologised to us but trying to charge us $45.40 with $2.60 discount applied only..i told her its too few discount and she was like 'so how much discount do u want?' . They didnt seemed like it is a big problem and rude. in the result we charged $0 but the service was bad and left me feeling sick after. Will not go back there again.

At the moment when I don't bring any lunch to work, I dine here. I've only ever had Kung pao Chicken on Rice - but its always been amazing. I haven't bothered looking for anywhere else to dine because I've been so pleased. The interior environment is very nice, the prices are great, and the food's delicious.
A Tale Of Two Tummies
Food ordered:
Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs w/ Rice
Seafood Fried Noodles

Bill: $30

Big tummy: We came here because we heard they do a special where you get 10% off the bill if you book ahead and make a reservation (it's for dinner time only though, so not for the lunch time menu). We ended up ordering two dishes (what can I say... I was starving), with my girlfriend ordering the sweet & sour spare ribs and myself opting for the seafood fried noodles. Firstly, the portions were massive... like we barely finished the two dishes between us. They're also incredibly generous when it comes to the stars of the dish, with my noodles absolutely full of prawn and squid pieces. Like I must've given at least a dozen pieces of prawn to my girlfriend and it still seemed like it was full of prawn. The food tasted amazing too - the sauce on the spare ribs was just wow. Sweet and sticky, without being overbearing. The fried noodles also had a really nice flavour without drowning out the taste of the actual seafood, though they were a little bit oily.
The restaurant has a really nice ambience too and the staff are relatively friendly compared to some Chinese establishments. I have a suspicion that some of the waitresses might struggle with English a bit though - they kept trying to speak in Mandarin to my girlfriend who doesn't speak a lick of Chinese hahaha. All in all, I'd happily come back here though.

Little tummy - I've been here before and this visit certainly didn't disappoint. I decided to order the spare ribs, which were ridiculously good - the sauce was just pure heaven. My boyfriend let me help myself to his noodles too, but I mostly just ate his prawns hahaha. Located right next to the Fresh n Save Asian supermarket on Porana Rd, this is the perfect place to stop for a delicious lunch.
Kale Oil
The cost listed here is misleading - $60 got us enough food for all THREE of us, and we were almost too full to finish the last of it. The sheer deliciousness of it kept us going all the way through. The great thing about authentic Chinese food, and the Spicy Chinese Restaurant is no exception - is that you can eat so much, and you will certainly feel full - but it's never a logey, sickly fullness. It's always a refreshing and happy sort of fullness. I always leave these restaurants feeling happy and energised.
For those who are curious, the Spicy Chinese Restaurant serves mainly Sichuan cuisine (central China, known for its spicy food). I wanted to take Mum to one of these restaurants so she could experience actual Chinese food (hint: nothing even remotely similar to what you get at the takeaway) and what makes it so great - I was worried that the spiciness and sweetness might overpower the natural nutritious value, but it didn't.

When we went in, the place looked underwhelming as it had just opened, but when the food comes, it's like a party. We got some green tea as soon as the water boiled, as well as some appetisers - spicy pickled radish and carrot - like a sweet version of kimchi. The service was great, and the staff were friendly - even though Chinese restaurant service tends to be more practical - you want something, they get it for you. We had five dishes - dumplings with hot sauce; spicy chicken; Sichuan eggplant (recommended); a steamed veggies with rice (sounds boring and looks boring but is actually delicious) and a sticky walnut rice-cake for dessert (Chinese desserts are not usually sweet, but they grow on you quickly). Those five dishes came to 60 dollars. My girlfriend and I would often go to Italian restaurants, where two dishes - a pasta and pizza with drinks, would come to the same amount. And always with those meals, I would come out lethargic from too much salt, sugar and gluten. With this Sichuan restaurant, it feels both delicious and healthy - I can eat like a horse, and I feel ready to take on an army. Make sure you ask for a pitcher of water, as you'll probably need it.
